Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Friday, The Jason Smith Show with
my bas friend Miike Harmon. Friday Live from the tire

get there and unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road
hazard protection and over ten thousand recommended installers tirec dot
com the way tire buying should be. You know, sometimes
(00:50):
I look at the sports world, Mike Carmen and I
just have to laugh, you know. I laugh, and I
go and I look and I look at the news today,
and I look at what's been going going on, and
I see the shows on TV. Everything, I go, Okay,
Chase Claypool getting traded to the Dolphins is really not
that big a deal. It's huge, but you you would
(01:11):
you would think you would think that Jamar Chase got
traded today with the way people are reacting.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
I saw it and just laughed.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
How fast can we get a quote from everybody involved?
We traded a guy that they gave up a second
round pick for for a bag of balls. I guess
the fact that they got anything at all is the
big win there. But in the grand scheme of things, look,
I wish him well, like you know, as we always do,
find a better situation, find someone that'll hug you and
(01:41):
tell you you're special.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
That's all fine and.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Good guy obviously didn't work as a member of the Bears.
Like that's what it all comes down to, be accountable,
show up on time. When Eberflus was asked about the
things that you need to do as a member of
the Bears, one of the first things was show up
on time and do Clearly one or both of those
things were a problem for Claypool in Chicago, which is
(02:05):
why it was really funny when that shot of him
with Brandon Marshall and and those guys sitting around and
a round table talking about being a top five receiver
emerged again today, and it might have been the best
laugh I've had all week.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Well, he is gonna be a top five receiver. He
will be the number five receiver for the Dolphins. That
is is gonna be. He will be the number five
receiver for Miami's Hey, good luck.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Yeah, And everybody's like, look at the Look at everybody
they've assembled there, Like there are a bunch of outside
of the top two guys, they are a bunch of jags.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Oh my goodness, guys.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
That have failed elsewhere have been bounced around. And look,
doesn't mean that McDaniel can't make him and do some
kind of wizardry, but to suddenly expect you know, he's
he's got the wand and he's just waving it in
Claypole's direction. I saw it in my timeline a bunch
this morning and I was like, yeah, I'm just gonna
throw my phone down at this point.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
You know, here, here's the thing, right, because we look
at the teams that are the upper level in the
NFL going into this weekend, right, where are we after
four weeks? We started to take a look and take
stock and who's really impressed and who is not. Now, look,
it's a time to do that. We're gonna take a
look back at some big surprising things the first four
week of the NFL season. But when you look in
the NFC, Okay, Eagles are still one of the top teams. Okay,
(03:20):
not a surprise, right, they were in the Super Bowl
last year. Niners one of the top teams. Okay, NFC
championship last year, not surprising, right. The Lions are three
and one. Hey, we knew they were really good, so
they're not really surprising.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
They're just hitting their expectations.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Chick look AFC said. The Chiefs are in first place,
the Ravens are in first place. But look at the Dolphins, right.
The Dolphins are the team that we thought, what's going
on with them? They were like Lady or the Tiger.
They could jump into this year and be a team
that runs all the way to the AFC Championship game,
or they can be a team that winds up flaming out.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Right.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
They could go either way because people still didn't want
to believe in two A toungo I lower the first
couple weeks of the season. But Miami strikes me as
a team that's just going to be reactionary to when
things go wrong, right, Like I look at the you know, look,
Mike McDaniel's done a great job with Miami, right and
he comes down. Look look at the guy. The guy
looks like he's a techeo, like he's a tech billionaire.
(04:13):
Right when I see him talk, I want to listen
to him because he looks at he's got a great
ted talk plan. Here's what I did here, and here's
what I hear, and there's coding, and there's all this stuff,
you know, social network blah blah blah. But all the
other teams I have confidence in. They're built for the
long haul of a seventeen game regular season. Whereas the Dolphins,
I feel like, Hey, we're very fragile right now, and
anything that happens we're going to completely react to, Well,
(04:37):
this happens, so we have to do this instead of Hey,
let's stay in the court, let's figure out why we
lost and what we have to do going forward. I
feel like every time they hit the tiniest bit of adversity,
they're gonna want to try to do something big to overcorrect.
Not that they took a big chance in getting Chase Claypool,
because like, you gave away a very small round draft pick.
But is he a guy that's really gonna play? Is
he going to be a difference maker? I mean, Mike
(04:59):
Tomlin didn't want on him. He couldn't work out in Chicago,
where they were saying, please come in. We haven't had
a receiver in forty five years. I think Brian Baschnagel
was the last good receiver. Nicely, Chicago, you like that
Brian Bashan.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
So but here they go, well, and you have two
of the top receivers in the game in Hill and Wattle,
and now here comes Claypool. He didn't work out in
a couple of places, and now you're gonna try to
weave him in. And it's a it's a bigger deal
to bring him in because he's a name, and if
he doesn't work out, And I look at this and
I go, would the Dolphins have done this if they
won last week? Like if they had if they had won,
if they were four and oh and there's in the top,
(05:33):
would they have done this if they won last week?
I don't see them. If they were at the top
of the AFC, if they were that team, if they
had beaten the Bills, they would have done this. But
they lost forty eight twenty and their offense didn't put
up points. The one game they haven't put up points
been thirty six twenty four seventy. Oh, we didn't score
against the Bills. Let's go get Chase Claypool. Like there's
(05:53):
there's being proactive in trying to solve a problem before
there's one there, and then there's just this happened. Let's
let's ring the alarm bell and go get something. And
I feel like from Miami, who all, you just let
it bake a little bit, man, just let it bake.
You know, Devan e. Chane is good and he's coming in.
He's the number one running back. Now you have a
huge weapon and you got guys to throw to you.
(06:15):
You gotta just let it bake. It's not gonna happen overnight.
I don't know what you expect after a seventy point win,
But here you score twenty and you lose and and
and suddenly yea, let's make go make a trade for
Chase Claypool. It's just a different type of reaction that
I saw that makes me wonder about the mental the
the ability of them to be able to navigate a
(06:36):
seventeen game season and not be able to go through
the lulls that you're gonna get to or the bad
weeks you're gonna have and be able to just say, Okay,
next week, now we're gonna bounce right back out of it.
I see more of a mental fragility, and that's what
this move tells me about.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Yeah, with this for I mean, look, if they'd won this,
you know, the game and ruled and move forward, you
just say, wow, they're taking advantage of the week.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Okay, cool.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
In this case, it's the maybe the other in the
psychology of it and trying to determine it all. For me,
it's the pragmatism of we're in a good spot. This
could make us better, And it's the perpetual the thing
we've talked about for as long as we've been on air.
There's always someone that thinks they're smart enough to reinstitute
(07:23):
and reevaluate a player and get them back to where
their projections were right. Laypool was a guy that was
highly thought of coming out of Notre Dame. Here he
is is a potential red zone target. I know folks
in Miami are already going, well, what if they tweak him?
Because he is a big bodied guy and make him
their tight end. Kind of interesting, right if you look
(07:45):
at it that way, because then he gets on the
field and there's different things you can do with him.
Not that he's gonna pretend to block, we know that,
but we look at the possibilities of just saying, all right,
we're already rich at a position. Again, it's those two
guys and some others that are nice, complimentary players. But
the option then becomes, well, we can add on where
(08:09):
we don't need to, and we're really not giving up
much of anything. So I'll look at it from an
organizational place of strength rather than an overreaction, you know,
and the I am the smartest guy in the room,
because let's face it, everybody right now thinks McDaniel's the
smartest guy in the room.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
So clearly, yes, McDaniel smartest guy in the room. McDaniel's
not smartest guy.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
But it goes back to, you know, the original point
that we've made again forever on these days. If Bill
Belichick and or Mike Tomlin say they're done with you,
I'd look under the hood a little bit more right
with the Bears being done with you. As part two,
I don't know, given some of the dysfunction of that
organization that I necessarily hold it all against Claypool. Right,
(08:58):
nice bounce back against Washington. They've played seven of eight
good quarters of football with no Claypool in and around
the building. That's good, but they've still done disastrously when
trying to address any issues in that building. Alan Williams,
we still don't know what happened there.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Where is he? What's he doing all of that thing?
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:17):
You like how that just disappeared. No, they did a
good job to the Bears defensive. Wow, well, well we
got Chase Claypool. Look over here, we got you. Hey,
we're owing three. Hey look over here, Hey, justin field stinks.
It doesn't want to be coached anymore. Look over here.
Look over my head hurts. It's on a swivel in
Chicago all this stuff. Look over here, Look at I
have neck pain.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
No, I mean you should sue.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Wait, I can sue the Bears for neck pain?
Speaker 4 (09:39):
All Wow, it seems to me in this day and age,
you can respiled the suit.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
I'm suing the Bears for what radio whiplash? Oh that's
a great, that's a great. That's a great. Suit right there.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
That's also a good name for a band.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
Yeah yeah, yeah, radio whiplan the thing is or a
radio show, Dian we take you through all the hard
rocket heavy metal that made America great.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
You know.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Also'd be great about this is that it would wind
up being a class action lawsuit because how many Bears
fans would join me? Yes, I want to see the
Bears for over ways.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Yes, right, I eat, I overeat, and I eat my
feelings because of the Bears. I can't hold down a
steady relationship because of my mood swings Bears, my family
could file suit against the Bears for bad play and
the death of my uncle.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Your brothers, Your brothers stole tractors from the from the
practice field and haven't read well allegedly. Hey dude, the
day after that stuff got stolen, your brother was as
far south as he could be close.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
To the sent me a nice picture from a mansion
in New Orleans.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Yeah yeah, let me guess, no return address, and you
don't know where he sent it from, right, It may
it may have been a replica of the Haunted mansion
from Disney.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
I don't know, but the the.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Riding attractor right, Hey, look, I got a while riding attractor.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
That's right, he had his riding Moraudy. He picked up
some odd odd jobs while in Louisiana. But yeah, for
the for the Dolphins, it I just was in incredulous
that this became such a big deal. The fact that
we're leading and talking to it just shows the state
of the NFL where we are right multiple trades involving
guys that teams just looked around and said, yeah, we
(11:18):
don't need them here anymore. And in the chase of
Clay in the case of Chase Claypool, like.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
The Chase of Clay Claypool, I let that sounds better.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Yeah, no, I you know, you try to speak fast.
The brain starts working too much caffeine on a Friday night.
But the idea that his ouster from Chicago, I mean,
there's a bit of a celebration there. I mean, you
thought it was lit in that locker room. After the game,
there's a lot of fans just saying, all right, well
you at least get back to football.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Now.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Let's look at the schedule. If we can win for
these next five games, we're right back in it. And
then we got that date late November with the Lions.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Let's go now, other big news, right, if they're concerned
about Miami boy knee jerk here it is, let me
tell you about something that people aren't ready for. Other
big news in the NFL today. Yes, Jimmy Garoppolo is
going to NA It's only that's the best news if
you have Jacoby Myers in fantasy but.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Or super flex leads where you may need Jimmy Garoppolo
based on the idiotic settings that your commissioner set up,
because everybody's got ten guys on their damn benches.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
As to may but Sean McVeigh said today he expects
Cooper Cup to play this week, barring any setbacks against
the Eagles. And when you see the Rams offense, the
surprises this year so far of obviously been NIKOUA and
two two at well, right, well, what's gonna happen Now?
(12:44):
Cup is gonna come in and that's gonna cut into
Nakua's targets and all this stuff. Trust me, just watch
what happens with the Rams offense on Sunday. If Cup plays,
I'm taking the Rams in an upset because you could
already see that Stafford has the chemistry. I'm looking Nakuo
is catching fifteen passes a week. Right, at Well is
(13:06):
a great deep he found Stafford has it with them already.
And now Cup, who you know he has incredible chemistry
with and this guy, Look, this guy was the best
receiver in the NFL. We forget that because you've heard
a little bit coming off the Super Bowl. But this offense,
how are you gonna stop them? Now? I mean you
had two guys jump through in Niku and at Well.
That look people thought coming okay, maybe they can be
(13:28):
you know, they'll be all right, but they've become forces,
right Niku, you're talking about could wind up threatening the
receptions record this year. They are gonna throw the football
all over the field and you have three quality wide receivers.
You have to forget about. Cup's got to be in
the slot. Cut the Cup. You've seen him do damage
from outside all the time, and that's where he's gonna
(13:50):
line up. And at Well's the burner, and he's gonna
also get trick plays. He's gonna be like Deebo Samuel,
and Niku is gonna be the possession guy over the middle,
good life, defending the Rams. Watch out. People aren't ready
for how well, they're gonna play and the points they're
going to score. He plays on as long as he
plays on Sunday, because look, you're talking about heading a
guy who was the best receiver in the NFL. If
(14:12):
Cooper Cup plays Sunday, he's Cooper Cup. Give me the
Rams in an upset and sudden, it's going to be well,
wait a minute, now, we got to make room at
the top of this list of best teams in the NFL,
because suddenly this Rams offense looks like a bleeping juggernaut
when the beginning of the season, look they weren't have
trouble score in ten points a week, watch out for
this Rams offense.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
Well, and Kyron Williams has been good. And don't forget
about our boy Higbee four catches about fifty yards per game,
hasn't scored yet, so you might still be able to
sucker someone into making a deal with you.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Line moved from.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Four and a half to four in most shops with Cup.
And there was a video of the footwork drills he
was doing with Nikua and Nikua smooth, but I was mesmerized.
I must have watched that thing ten times. Oh I know,
just watch him do with this Cohen drill his hips.
Yeah yeah, yeah, swivel, swivel, swivel, swive So it looks
(15:02):
looking at it, going I oh man, I sent it
to battle and I'm like, this is what you're supposed
to look like, flowing through those drills.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
And she goes, what the hell is that?
Speaker 4 (15:12):
No, not not that I was being mean to her,
but just going, that guy's ridiculous. I go, how many
times you think he's done that drill? This is how
do you think he puts?
Speaker 1 (15:22):
The hell does that mean?
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Dad?
Speaker 1 (15:23):
This is the best receiver in the NFL. He's getting paid.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
You want to be Gray, Here's here's how you become great.
Let's put into work.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
But I'm telling you, man, watch out for this Rams offense.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Yeah, they're winning this game this week.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
I was not. I was not a big believer going
in obviously because it did. We didn't know what the
what the talent was gonna look like, right, we didn't
know what it didn't look like they or anything. But now,
oh man, watch out, this is gonna be something twitter
at how about a fresca Mike hat swollen down the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carman live
(15:57):
from the ti rag dot com Studios. I'm telling you
this Rams offense he's gonna play. Give me the Rams.
Coming up next? Speaking of what we have coming up next,
a big slate in college football tomorrow that is not
headlined by a Colorado game. Wait, what you're gonna get
to pay attention to the other one hundred and twenty
teams in Division one And there's many top twenty five games,
(16:19):
and there is nobody better to break it down with
us than the guy we got coming up next. Keep
it right here, Jason and Mike, This is Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon hobo live from the tirerag dot com Studios.
Big slate in college football tomorrow not headlined by the
Colorado Buffalo surprise. I mean, does college football still happen?
Do we'll have the games? Have they put?
Speaker 4 (17:01):
No?
Speaker 1 (17:01):
We actually still get to play this season and see
who wins a whole bunch of games. How exciting is.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
That crazy with us?
Speaker 1 (17:07):
With us now in the hot line now because we
got some Red River topics to get to It is
long time college football insider. He is the owner, editor,
proprietor of college Footballnews dot com. You're one stop shopping
for college football, all the predictions, all the analysis, all
the breakdowns you could possibly need. It is Pete, feutech Pete,
(17:29):
what's happening? Bud?
Speaker 5 (17:30):
I am not joking when I say that you could
have sports stories across the board that like Michael Jordan's
coming back from the NBA and Caleb Williams through fifteen
touchdown passes and Nick Dabns actual woman, and you'd still
get the ESPN app sending out the thing saying, Deion
Sanders is my team's coming. We're disrespected. It's unbelievable that
(17:57):
can believes went off And what was the thing that
came out? I go to work on Saturday, Well, Colorado
football Shador Sanders leaves a comeback. Yeah they lost, Okay,
they lost. You don't have to tell us this. It's
absolutely unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
So Pete, what do you think about Colorado this week?
Arizona State, It's going to be a toch alright, eight,
I'm not going to do that to you.
Speaker 5 (18:20):
Yeah they should win. Yeah you want to tell you
over and yes they should if you're if this team
is any good with all the hype. See, here's the
here's the problem with the Colorado hypere. Okay, fine, they
should be you know, two and three or whatever it is,
the three and two. They they they've been all right,
you know, but they're not. They win, but that's very good.
(18:43):
But they if they're that good, if they really have
the talent, they should have no problems with this Arizona
State team and there should be no problem getting past
the total on this and they should take care of
most of it by itself. If this team really is
where Dion wants you, then think past.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
All right, well as that happened, do you feel you
got that out of your system with Colorado? Do you
feel good? You feel you feel good about it?
Speaker 5 (19:10):
We're good good.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
I've been food since I came out of the womb.
Speaker 5 (19:14):
I was going to I was gonna keep this Colorado free.
And again I kind of like Carlo, but I was
gonna use this Colorado free. But you brought it up
and then you just you never know what you're gonna
get when you you know, you scratch, you know, you
scratch that edge, all of a sudden things start happening.
So we'll go on from here, all right.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
So speaking of look, we got red River tomorrow, Texas Oklahoma.
Uh pete. I know that this looks like, well, here's
Oklahoma there five, and oh, here's Texas there five and oh,
I don't know that I'm we're not looking at the
end of this game and seeing Texas winning in a blowout.
I mean tech, I don't know that this is a
great Oklahoma team, and I feel really good about Texas
(19:53):
this year, like this is the year they've been building towards.
I don't I don't know how close this game is
gonna be. How do you see it up?
Speaker 5 (20:00):
Fine?
Speaker 6 (20:01):
You know?
Speaker 5 (20:01):
I okay, this is such a hard game to read.
But it's not the last because we're seeing this again.
Because if you're seeing Kansas State's like the one team
that seems like it should be good enough and it's
not playing like it tonight against Oklahoma State. So this
is probably the first to two between Texas and Oklahoma
(20:22):
because they might rematch in the Big Twelve championship. But yeah,
if we're talking next week in Texas roll them. Yeah,
I'm not gonna be shocked at all. I think Oklahoma wins.
I think I am not one. It's Texas. It's gonna
blow it at some point and do the it's Oklahoma's defense.
They they can tackle. This year, this is a much
(20:44):
more physical Texas team that it's been in the past.
But the two big difference is this year with the
Sooners is you have a healthy Dylan Gabriel, with an
offense that's good enough to keep on rolling and a
defense that that those second that secondary is going to
beat up those oneide receivers of Texas. I don't think
the speed's gonna matter, and I do think that the
(21:04):
pass rush is going to be in this And the
one final part about this, this game always kind of
favors the kind of I want to say disrespected, because
I mean it goes back to Colorado, but the team
that's sort of not supposed to come through and it's
been last year was an outlier, a total blowout. Dylan
Gabriel wasn't healthy. But year after year, whether it was
(21:25):
Texas who was kind of playing well and pulling off
a win, or whether it took Caleb Williams to step
up in the second half. Or this game's always relatively
close and it usually tilts to the side of the
team that's not supposed to win. So I kind of
like Oklahoma, but I get everything we don't know. This
(21:45):
is one of the hardest games to really handicap because
we don't quite know what Oklahoma is yet. But this
narrative could shift really fast as they play well.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
Tomorrow, I'll go to another fun one for you, Notre
Dame six and a half point favorites on the road
at undefeated Louisville. Two things, Number one, will they get
caught looking ahead with USC on the slate next week?
And two, if the game is tight, will Louisville only
rush three people?
Speaker 5 (22:11):
And three? How many times I went the over under
the amount of times that Stam Hartman takes his helmet
off so he can audition once again for a just for.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
Men ad nine and a half.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
Dear God, you know that guy could loves himself some
Sam Hartman, and I would too if I had that
hair and beer.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
Well, he looks like it's like an argo or in
that one where he looks all this disgruntled where he's
smoking a cigarette outside the garage.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Come on, man, he's thirty seven years old and playing
college football. He's loving life. I get thirty seven.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Nights at my line. Yes, he's been around for forever.
He was there, he was at wake Forth and all
with Arnold Palmer was there.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
But he's been great. You know he's been He came through.
And this this Notre Dame team, if you know, we
get like we just said, if if Colorado's for real,
it blows out Arizona State, if Texas or Oklahoma or
for real will know this. And if Notre Dame really
is a college football playoff contender, like I think it
is because their lines are just that strong, then I
(23:13):
think they come through in this and I this is
where the running game takes off on Louisville, and this
is where it's it's sort of more of a methodical
game where Louisville gets its points. But Notre Dame says,
you know what, we're just at another level this year
and they take this one out.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
East Pete feutech college football news dot Com Insider with
us The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon,
live from the tireg dot Com Studios. All right, well,
last week we watched Georgia survive Auburn. Kentucky's coming in.
They're five and zero. Yes, it's a big fourteen point
spread for Georgia. Give me the odds that we're talking
(23:50):
about a new number one team in the country on Monday.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
All right, here's my trivia question, which I don't know
the exact answer too, So it's bad radio, but it's
gonna be fun anyway. Over there. In something years that
Georgia and Kentucky have played college football, even through the
Bear Bryant years, what do you think that Georgia winning
percentage all time is against Kentucky? This is Nobama. This
(24:13):
is Georgia and Kentucky all time winning percentage that they've
played a gajillion year.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
Well, I just found the answer.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Okay, Well, there's harm and he's fast on the internet.
I'll tell you I'm fast. So I guess, Uh, Georgia's
winning percentage against Kentucky.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Well, if you're asking me that, it's got to tell
me that all time, it's got to be low. I'll
say three ninety five.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Hit him, not even close. Uh it is.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
Eighty one, Okay, eighty one point five percent. They would.
You know, it's across the history of college football there's
a lot of real weird outliers where you know, how
Staate is beaten, you know, Northwestern, you know ninety eight
percent of the time or things like that, but eight
seph for nugent of the time, eighty one percent of
(25:04):
the time Georgia has been. It's not like Georgia has
been this killer for forever. They just know how to
beat Kentucky and they're gonna do it again. Kentucky defies
all logic and reasons. They don't control the clock, they
don't do anything, well, they don't, but they did. It's
kind of been what they do under Mark Stoops. But
this team actually has an offensive line compared to last
(25:25):
year's team, so they should hold up and they should
keep this close. But Georgia once again win unimpressively, and
everyone's going to keep screaming that you're a miss Michigan Wolverine.
They're actually the number one team and not Georgia.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
Where am I finding chaos tomorrow? In the top twenty
five beat you get the Arizona Wildcats come in and
stay in usc David Store four.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
You know, if Knjing. Do Laura do what he did
last year against UCLA where it was you know, late
night game and all of a sudden he goes off,
And you know, maybe if USC actually starts turning it
over a little bit and just gets into a crazy
firefight and shootout and everything, that's not a crazy call.
The other one I kind of think, I don't know
(26:08):
if it's a top twenty five crazy thing, but I
want to see Missouri LSU. Missouri is still undefeated. LSU
for some reason decided to quit tackling last week, and
let's see what LSU can do to get back in
the mix here. But this is where if Missouri wants
to be a thing in a sec east that all
(26:28):
of a sudden looks kind of outside of Georgia. Obviously,
they beat LSU and Missouri suddenly becomes a player. So
that's kind of the other one I'm looking at to
see that that might be the kind of big chaos
moment for the weekend. If that counts this chaos.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Did you add that one?
Speaker 4 (26:46):
Because you want to see Brian Kelly's head explode like
the movie Scanners.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
Oh man, that game last week, I mean, neither team,
It's like they were making business decisions left and right.
They could not neither team could hit anybody that was
That was pretty fun stuff. And then the other one
I want to see is your guys, Michigan has been
flawless and Minnesota is bad. So I kind of want
(27:11):
to see if Michigan just sort of methodically keeps rolling along,
gives up seven points, maybe it gives up three, but
it's not giving up more than that, and they just
they get their thirty four ish points and then they
go home. They've just been quietly really awesome this year,
in a year when there hasn't been a whole lot
of really impressive teams so far. So if Michigan is
(27:34):
really playing that well, they should not have a problem.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
With the Gophers tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
That's the one other thing that I would normally say
waked out for Minnesota, but not this week.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
Hey Pete. Lastly, anything to the smoke and fire this week?
Urban Meyer Michigan State. Maybe he was interviewing now he's not.
Maybe is they painted his name on the Michigan State
rock today They gotta and anything you're hearing that Urban
Meyer could be, whether it's Michigan State or someplace else.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
I mean Michigan State seriously. Like I'm an urban Meyer fan.
I'm sorry, I kind of like as a foot pure
football coach forgetting the Jacksonville stuff and the the other
stuff that happen in Ohio State, and as a pure
ex Ando guy, I think he is brilliant. But if
you're Michigan State and you're that school with that Larry
(28:25):
Nasser thing still sort of attached, and you're coming off
this with mel Tucker, you really want a coach that
has a checkered past of issues. I don't think that's
ever gonna happen. And I don't think Urban Meyer is
gonna watch this gig either. It sounds weird, even after
the Jacksonville stuff. And because he's Irban Meyer, he that
(28:45):
job's not big enough for him. I think people think
Michigan State is a much bigger gig than it is.
I don't think he would take that job. If he's
coming back, it's not for anything less than you know,
Alabama two years. I mean, that's that's his gig. So
if he does ever come back, which I'm not so
sold he is, but I think he kind of digs
(29:05):
you know, your your guys, big new kickoff life there.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
He's on Twitter at Pete Feutech. That is at Pete Futech.
Checkout college Footballnews dot com. All the predictions, all the prognostications,
all the breakdowns you could possibly need. Pete is always
by the appreciated man. Hey, enjoy that Colorado game tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
I can't tell that.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Wait and one more shot out of Colorado before I go.
It's on the tech twelve days.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
They would have they would have flexed them into a
Fox or ESPN or ABC game if they won. Right.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
Flex scheduling comes to college football.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Hey, football fans, be sure to tune into Fox Sports
Radio every Saturday and Sunday morning three hours before kickoff
for Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Bett MGM. They'll walk
you right up to kickoff on both Saturdays and Sundays
and hit on all of the key storylines and with
all of their best bets. You can listen to Countdown
to Kickoff weekend mornings, beating at nine am Eastern on
Saturdays and ten am Eastern on Sundays right here on
(30:07):
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Well tom Not
to find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
Listen to Steve Desager weave a pattern of unbelievable sports
action on a game on a night where there's really
just some college football games in Kansas.
Speaker 6 (30:23):
As the headliner Steve, Kansas State, thank you at Kentucky
you were talking about? Is in at number twenty as
this week's AP pole had the top seven remain the same,
led by number one Georgia and Kentucky's at Georgia Saturday.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
I looked it up.
Speaker 6 (30:36):
Kentucky has beaten Georgia and football once in the last
fifteen years twice in the last twenty five years. Georgia
did need a late touchdown pass to win at Auburn
last Saturday. Coming up tomorrow, Maryland five and zero. We'll
play at number four ranked Ohio State noon Eastern time
on Fox TV. Maryland barely missed the top twenty five
this week. Two games tonight on FS one, Nebraska's kicked
(30:58):
a field goal. The lead mid third quarter is now
twenty to seven at Illinois. Meanwhile, under seven minutes to
go at Oklahoma State, the Cowboys lead on Kansas State
is twenty nine twenty one now as k State quarterback
Will Howard has two touchdowns two interceptions to the NFL.
Lions wide receiver i'm and ross Saint Brown is doubtful
(31:18):
for the weekend with an abdominal injury. Sunday, Detroit three
to one hosts Carolina, OH to four. Lions running back
Jamiir Gibbs questionable with a hamstring injury. Las Vegas one
and three will host the Packers on Monday night, and
quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will play for the Raiders. He has
cleared concussion protocol. Vegas wide receiver DeVante Adams did not
practice again today's shoulder injury. Green Bay running back Aaron Jones,
(31:41):
with the bad hamstring, was limited again at practice, as
was Packers wide receiver Christian Watson. Packers All Pro tackle
David Baktiari is out for the year. He needs another
knee surgery. His salary cap hit is about forty million
dollars next season. Forty nine Ers running back Elijah Mitchell
out this weekend with a knee injury. The Broncos are
trading linebacker Randy Gregory to San Francisco. He had signed
(32:04):
a five year deal before last season. The Bears traded
wide receiver Chase Claypool to Miami Giants running back Saquon
Barkley is questionable with his ankle injury. He was limited
in practice all week, so perhaps a game time decision.
As the Giants one and three are at the Dolphins
Sunday on Fox TV. Miami plays tackle to Ron Armstead,
on injured reserve with the bad knee, so he'll miss
(32:25):
at least four games, and Rams whiteout Cooper cup is
due to make his season debut on Sunday after his
hamstring injury. The Rams host the four and O Eagles
for Philly. Defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is out. The Texas
Rangers say pitcher Max Scherzer, with his strained shoulder, as
a long shot to start in the next week, although
he did throw to hitters at practice today. The best
of five division series all start tomorrow. FS one will
(32:48):
have Texas at Baltimore, then Minnesota at Houston on both
Saturday and Sunday, starting at one pm Eastern Saturday and
at four pm Eastern time on Sunday. In the American League,
the oriel of the one seed Houston Astros the two seed.
They had the first round bys because Houston on the
last day of the regular season clinch the AL West title,
(33:09):
and the Buyet won the division for the third year
in a row, sixth in the last seven. Houston had
the tiebreaker over the Rangers as Texas lost its season
finale last weekend won nothing. The Rangers had spent over
one hundred and fifty days in first place this year
and blew the division on the last day. Gymnast Sabone
Biles won the all round title at the World Championships
(33:29):
for a record tying sixth time in the past decade.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Back to you, thanks a bunch of Steve O. The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Coming
up next, we are going to preview the game of
the week in the NFL. It's not Cleveland. It's not
the game you think it is. Wait a minute, it's
Dallas and the forty nine ers. That is not going
to be the game of the week. What is we
(33:53):
got a for you? Coming up next to the tyreck
dot Com Studios Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Be sure to catch live edition of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

and Sports Illustrated, and I'm Joe Madden.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
Are we're going to be around to talk a little bit.
Speaker 5 (34:22):
About managerial decisions, playoff games and what may have occurred
to the dugout maybe in the nineteen eighties.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
That can't wait for this, Joe.
Speaker 7 (34:28):
We're going to dive into what goes on in the
dugout and behind the scenes in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Cars, wind whatever else we want to talk about.
Speaker 7 (34:35):
Listen to the Book of Joe podcast on the iHeartRadio app,
on Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the tire rack dot Com Studios.
We got our big upset specials on the way next
hour on the show, we got tons of NFL to
break down. Coming up next Hey, we'll talk about the
two the biggest surprises the quarter point of the NFL season.
(35:04):
But right now we're going to take a look at
the game of the week. Wow. Okay, well wait, forty
nine Ers and the Cowboy.
Speaker 7 (35:08):
No.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
That is not going to.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Be the game that's the third on the metal.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Status that if that, if that, if the Cowboys finished
that game within fourteen points of the forty nine Ers,
I'll be surprised. WHOA, look at you out, I'm love
looking at the Cowboys to get so what we talked
about this this week, the forty nine ers Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
But but but I was doing that for the audience
that might not have been with us the whole week. No,
I like that to express my surprise and vexation. I'm
trying to get an acting job once the strike settled.
So oh, okay, I'm trying.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
But I don't think it was just voice acting.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Yeah. No, but you can't do that now. You can't.
You can't like audition while the strike is going on.
You look all you're a scab. Now you auditioning.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
I just said it, said I'm working that.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
Yeah, but you just basically you were trying to audition
right there while the strike is going on.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
Your scap No, I'm a vocal artist every day for four.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
That's not how that came across. You actually said I
want to and auditioning is not something people are doing.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
No, I said, eventually I would like to once the
strike is settled. But you just basically auditioned right there,
only for you and millions of people listening nationwide, Only
for you and casting directors who might be listening.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
The game of the week is going to be Minnesota
and Kansas City, and I'm gonna take the Vikings getting
four over the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
There you go, the Chiefs are you.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
Look, you've seen the Chiefs play so far this year,
and they still look to be somewhat loaded like a
Super Bowl team is, but they look a little incomplete.
And I'm telling you they're not the best version of
themselves yet and they won't be until they make a
trade for a number one wide receiver. There'll be lots
of guys available at the deadline, so they'll be able
to make that move. They'll get somebody really talented to
bring in that's going to help open up the offense.
(36:51):
But right now, they're just not scoring like they used to.
And the biggest thing, you know, forgetting I mean, maybe
it's the Taylor Swift curse, but Travis Kelcey has been okay,
he's not been his dominant self. He's not catching eight
to nine passes a week for one hundred and twenty
one hundred and thirty yards. His yardage is way down.
Maybe he's slowing down a little bit. Look when you
(37:12):
get to be thirty four, Happy birthday, Travis Kelsey. Uh,
you're not gonna be an elite player forever. You kind
of knew at some point it's coming. Maybe it's here
for Kelsey. Maybe it's just there's no wide receivers you
have to worry about. So teams have been able to
roll more coverage towards Travis Kelce. But he's been the
Even last year when there was nobody else out there,
Kelsey was the guy. He's not getting those big chunk
(37:33):
yardage plays so far the season, and that's a really
big deal. Minnesota is at home, the offense is rolling.
Kirk Cousins has been the best quarterback in the NFL
for the first four weeks. There's gonna be a lot
of points in this game. But gimme Cousins leading the
Vikings down for a game winning field goal. I'll take
the four. But it's not upset special. I mean, I'll
take the four I'm getting from Minnesota. But the Vikings
(37:54):
win on the field and pull the upset. Their offense
is just going to be playing a little bit higher
level than the Chiefs are.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
I'm enjoying the opportunity to talk about Kirk Cousins and
maybe maybe on this game you'll get a little more respect,
because he's always a guy that much maligned. Right, people
were trying to write deep thought pieces that he took
his family to see the Twins the other day? Why
is it he worrying about Mahomes? What's he doing watching
(38:21):
that game? Was?
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Really this is where we're at.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
That's how much we hate this guy.
Speaker 4 (38:26):
I mean, I get it, Primetime records all those things,
go back and look at how healthy or his defense
was or wasn't in a lot of those big games.
But fifty two and a half is the total for
this one. You love the wide receivers. Addison has been
a great pickup rookie coming in kJ Osborne on the
(38:46):
wings of love. Every now and again will hit you
with a big play. Hockinson with Jefferson. I mean, you've
got weapons for days run game. You actually got some
production out of Madison last week, ninety eight total yards.
You're still working cam akers in. I'm intrigued, you know,
the Chiefs defense getting the job done thus far, but
the offense doesn't have that explosiveness. And I'm not gonna
(39:10):
go down the Travis Kelcey effect. Although I know you
had appointment viewing for the Today Show with his.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Mom earlier, I yet to watch his mom say nothing.
I'm not really we flew you all the way to
New York to be on the Today What do you
think we're gonna ask you? We're gonna ask you about
Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift. You're not gonna say anything.
You know why we didn't just fly here because you're
the Kelsey's mom, right, you knew why we flew you here, right,
swetn't stand going on? You understand that? Okay, that's great.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
I say good for her. Answer nothing. The boys don't
talk about relationships with their mama.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
But that's what she said. But I'm so why are
you here? Then? Why you're on the show? I mean,
don't you do some vetting before going? Hey, if we
bring you on here Today's show, are you gonna you
know you're gonna talk about the relationship a little bit?
And then oh yeah, yeah, I say good for her.
You just get no why? Why? Why? Why? I want why?
(40:02):
I want to know. Was this something that the Today's
Show decided, no matter what she said, we're bringing her on,
or is this hey, she's gonna talk about it. And
then she clammed up, like, because that's bad television. Man,
I'm a.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
Figure, but you got a lot of run out of
some bad TV.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
I gotta blame.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
I loved language.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
I have a big hatred for bad television. That was
bad television.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
And what was it like hanging out with Tailor? She shipped, there, it's.
Speaker 8 (40:22):
Okay, give me the vikings and the upset over there,
Captain Kirk Coming up next, the two biggest surprises of
the NFL so far this season.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
Fox
