Up some decent numbers when the Dolphins are clubbing you. Yeah,
and their defensive backs are just like, all right, here's
your eight yard cushion and you complete those passes in
front of him.

But look, it's not but it's terrible where it's not
where it's not functional. And the Broncos are a tear down.
They're gonna be in tank mode for a quarterback. It's
not just tank for Caleb because now there's three, four
or five guys will go in the first round, right,
I mean I want to get into Quinn youwers a
little bit, because boy, he was fantastic on satur even
though Texas lost. But now they're gonna tank and Russell

Wilson's salary is guaranteed for thirty seven million against seventy
shut up thirty seven million for injury next year, So
you know they're not gonna do that if he's washed
and they're starting over, and he's gonna follow in that
Aaron Rodgers footsteps of do I need to do something
creative with my contract so I can get traded to
a team that's gonna make me a starter and is

gonna keep me around. So and it'll be one bad
year for the Broncos with dead cap money unless they
get him to restructure a little bit to help both
teams with which, look, if Aaron Rodgers contract got worked out,
Russell Wilson's contract can get worked out. But that's the
big thing thirty seven million do. And maybe Russell Wilson
says something simple as no, let's figure it out, let's
do this. Let's X, Y and Z will push the bonus,

we'll push the money. Something can happen to make that.
But he's gonna wind up hitting the bench and it's
gonna be obvious his future is not there. Because you're
gonna believe in Sean Payton or Russell Wilson, someone's gonna
get the blame for this season, and you can't go
into next year saying hey, no, Sewan and Russ got
to figure out No, no, it's a teardown. It's a
new quarterback. It's the only way Sean Payton wins by saying,

give me a new quarterback and let's go from there,
because look, I made Russ into what is good. But
this is about as good as he can be. But
they don't want to have to worry about anything where
they're on the hook with Russell Wilson for next year.
It'll be one bad year money wise, but they'll have
a new quarterback, so it'll be fine. Not like you're
going out in free agency and spending a quarterback and
that's how it's gonna go, and he's gonna hit the
bench and it's gonna be Russell Wilson on a new
team next year. Just watch the curiosity with Wilson. And

this goes back to the conversation we started about Daniel Jones,
who at this point is basically a pinata. I mean,
you want to talk about horrible offensive line play, I'd
like to show mister heel a rough cut of what
came together. I don't need to do all the bells
and whistles and sound effects and all. Here's the rough
cut from the dailies. Tell me what you see. I

like the story today where hey, he could place on it?
Why why? Why would you? Why? Why are you playing it?
He's stuck the offensive line states? But why why?

Does he solve problems for? And we're only in a
week five, so that'll become more and more clear of
which might be able to be hoodwinked into making a move.
But you're looking at an eighty five million dollars dead caps.
He's got a huge salary. What is a thirty five

the money, he'll work out the workout the money. If
he's gonna start somewhere, I'll work out money. You want
Russell Wilson as much as you would have wanted Aaron
Rodgers is, Well, you're not. You're not giving up as
much for him. You're not. You're not saying, here's a
second round pick that could be your first round pick
and another second round pick. It's gonna be. Here's if
I'm if I'm in a bad spot and then I'm
in a bad way with my roster, I'm bringing him in. Well,

that depends how bad you are. Are you bad when
you're starting over? No, but are you bad where? Hey,
we're competing, and maybe Russ works in our six team
to want to figure it out, be a playoff team,
and maybe Russ Wilson can can can get a new
start and be better in the second check. Yeah, I

and it's not gonna You're not gonna be on the
hook for a long deal because that that contract would
be out and you get out of it after next

are football wise. Now, Baseball wise, we got a thing. Yeah,
maybe every game. Now, the Diamondbacks just gonna hit Dodgers
pitching in the first inning. They get three in the
first ending off of Bobby Miller, who throws fifty pitches.
He is now out of the game. Diamondbacks are gonna

take a huge two to zero lead in this series. Meanwhile,
the Phillies and the Braids, and I realized, you know
how I say, I don't you know, one of these
teams is gonna lose. So I'm okay with that. The
Phillies or the Braves are going to lose. So I'm
okay with that because one of them is gonna lose
one I'm gonna lose. You gotta tell yourself you're okay
with that. Yeah, So I am. And I'm okay because
I know one of them is gonna lose. But on
the final play of the game, I realized, you know, yeah,

I'm I'm I'm I'm rooting for the Phillies. Like if
I have to pick, I'm rooting for the Phillies if
I have to, if I have to, if I have
to pick, because I wanted I wanted Bryce Harper to score.
I wanted the Phillies to win this game. And like
I really I realized who I was rooting for. But
then it didn't happen, and I have to realize I
have to go back and now just realize that, Okay,
some team is going to lose. That's how it's gonna go. Yeah,

I mean I figured you would, even though you had
your run ins verbally, I e. You ranting on the
radio against as you called him, Bieber Harper all those
years ago. I think there's now that you hate to
admit that you respect the player that he's grown into
and the guy that he is, right all the incidents
(12:40):
of him with fans and everything, like, there's a lot
of good there, and I think it kind of ticks
you off, but by the same token, there's an appreciation.
And since the Braves.

Kind of ran away and hid them, losing would be
good and it would also be good. I think for baseball,
because you know in the NFL, whenever something happened to
a superstar, you get rules changes. Yeah, maybe the Braves
losing would change the rules. Man, you don't play the
best team in the next round. You don't get five
or six days off before you play a game.

I'll worry about that after this, though. I gotta take
care of this and make sure an NL's team doesn't
win the World Series again. I just gotta take care
of this way, all right. But I did realize all
of that energy gets channeled back into there.

an exercise and maybe Josh McDaniels is writing a paper

many times I can make ridiculously bad decisions before I

let's see if the right Raiders can run the clock out.
The Packers are down to one timeout and the Raiders
are set up with a third and seven, okay, third
and seven from the forty five yard line from the
Packers forty five yard line. They run it to Josh Jacobs,
which third and seven really okay, But then I think, oh,

wait a minute, they're gonna go for it on fourth
run deep, and so he started to gain subtraction as
the game's going on, You need, you need, you need
seven yards? Okay, okay, by say if the fifth it's
a two play thing, I get it. We thought we
could cut, and he did get six. So it comes
down to fourth and one and the Raiders line up
to go for it, and they line up like they're
(14:38):
gonna snap the ball, but the two minute warning comes
out first, So okay, come to the sideline. Two minute warning.
Raiders face with a fourth and one. Coming out of
the timeout. Daniel Carlson is on for a fifty two
yard field goal, who normally is really good, not so
much tonight, and he doinks it off the right upright. Yeah,
(15:02):
we're going drifting, drifting, and now the Packers have the
football near midfield. There's a review whether or not they
got the first down on the previous play. If not,
they're facing third down. But this is where we're at
right now. There's gonna be a review for a couple
of minutes. Okay, so many things. If you're gonna go
(15:24):
for it, I get the running on Josh Jacobs, it
was Abdullah actually Abdulla, sorry, Abduel on the play, I
get running if it's a two play if it's a
two play thing. But on fourth down, you're gonna trust
a fifty two yard field goal and give the ball
back to the Packers. Where because a fifty two yard

as good as Carlson is, Hey, you know this is
still a tough kick to make, and you need a
yard to win the football game. And it's not like
you haven't running the ball well most of the night.
I mean you have been, so I said, this is
this is a fast all down the middle for the Raiders.
They're gonna run the ball, and they're gonna go for
it on fourth and goal, on fourth and one, and

they're gonna do it. It's not like Jacobs has been
having an unbelievab night, but he's got seventy yards rushing
and may've been able to move the ball a little bit,
and instead they come back out for a field goal
from fifty two yards if this was a forty yard
or thirty five year Okay, we're gonna go up seven,
punt the ball and play defense, or kick the ball off,
play defense. I get it. But it was one play

to win the game. And instead we're choosing a dicey
field goal. Instead, he is going to get obliterated if
they lose this game. And these are the kind these
are the decisions that get people fired. Well, he could
go to the fact that Carlson for his career was
an eighty three percent field goal. Yeah, but it's still yeah,
(16:47):
you know, but and that's the different that's the difference
between analytics and hey. This is the it's not just hey,
it's he's kicking a field goal the final two minutes
of a game, win or lose fifty two yards away.
And here's some here's a bunch of pressure on you.
There's there's a there's a there's different things to go
into it. Then just ah, wait, dude, put him out here. Uh,
this is why moneyball doesn't work in the NFL. I

don't I don't get it. And and and the thing
is is that if you had gone for it on
fourth down, and what Josh McDaniels has to has to
realize is he likes being a head coach. And the
thing that coaches don't think about as much and they
need to is that I can't lose the locker room
if you go for it on fourth down and you
don't get it and you turn it over to to

the to the packers. Okay, let's go out and play defense.
The players like the fact that we go for it.
We have some we have a big belief in our offense.
We can get a yard okay. But when you look
like you're gonna do it and then you pull it off,
you try a field goal, you don't, And how do
you stand there in the locker room after the game
until until it plays. Yeah, I thought the field goal
was gonna work.

I thought it was gonna work. And you fall to
one and four and suddenly it's how are we one
and four? I don't know? This is this is this
is not acceptable, and these are the decisions because it's
not just losing games. When you lose games and make
really bad decisions, that's how you get fired in the
middle of a season. If you're just a bad coaching
but the team is still playing hard. They'll see you

out till the end of the year. Adam Gase didn't
make really bad decisions with the Jets. He was just
a bad coach. Jets, we're bad team. Wait till the
end of the year. We replace you. But when you
make decisions like this, this is like, hey, we have
no choice because you're losing the guys.

Well, but this is perfect coming off of our crystal
ball conversation, right, It's like, because now he goes, all right,
go play defense. You've dominated all the all game except
for the one drive. And obviously we've seen AJ Dillon
get moving in the second half. But opportunity is still
there to finish the game. And Carlson, yes, there is

the percentage chance. Maybe you decided you didn't like a
play that was dialed up, and upon further consideration, let's
making a touchdown game thinking he's gonna make that make
that kick, which he's done so right early through his
year now twenty four to thirty for his career from
fifty plus. But yeah, it's it's tough when you're already

quote unquote in battled. But I mean, as Mark Davis
told fans last week, smarting up smart en up. He
still believes in his guy. And in this case you've
had with a this is a paint drying kind of game, right,
Not a lot of excitement, No, not a lot of
sizzle going on here.

Would I have liked to see them go for it
on fourth down? Well yeah, at some ac Nobody celebrates
fueld goals until the final seconds, right the last second
there it goes drifting through the uprights or sales wide
if you're on the other side of things. But it's
also a situation whereby you say, well, they still got

a score touchdown if we miss the field goal, they
still got to score a touchdown to beat us, and
Jordan Love, I think you're banking on what your defense
has done. And Crosby being in his kitchen all night,
and how inaccurate he's been. Right, they showed the graphic
before two of six for ten yards on throws beyond
ten yards was Jordan Love with two picks, so saying,
(20:13):
all right, come and beat us.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Yeah, I look, look either way it's a touchdown, right.
And that's the other part of it is that no
way the Packers got to do it right. It's more
for McDaniels. But it's more of a why why do
you make this decision like this when it's clear that
you can do something where it shows you believe in
your team. That's a little bit more percentage chance succeeding, right,

Because honestly, at that point in the game, what's a
better chance you're gonna get a half yard on fourth
and one or you're gonna kick a fifty two yard field. Well,
and that's the thing, right, Well, how far was it? Truly? Right?
In the box score? It read is fourth and two?
Is that a short two?

What are we talking? Yeah? And you know you're going
down distant situation. Remember, as I've been argue with the
analytics side of it, we only have the data off
the ones that have been tried, as opposed to the

optics of it are terrible.

Of his hands literally pushing him away. Yeah, as he
turns to make the interception. So now he gets bailed
down that Josh McDaniel, Yeah, I'm the smartest guy in
the room, smartest guy in the room, smartest guy in
the rooms. But I see he was.

He was in that situation whereby, as we said, they
needed a touchdown either way. So either you make it
a full seven or you would have maybe gone you
go for it and don't get it while you're still defending.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, look, he didn't. He didn't pick
the best chance of success. He didn't pick the most
defendable chance. He picked I thought, Hey, no, let's kick
the fifty two yards fifty two yards, fifty two yards.
It's not a given. Even though we're in the age
of the kicker, and kickers have never been as good
and this NFL history as they are, and Carlson is
normally very good. Uh, that's still a tough That's a

tough one to say, Hey, let's go here and we miss.
We're giving you a short field. That's really, really difficult.

But it's still for this Packers offense right now, it's
like one hundred million miles. But look, you know you
want to go Proclaimers, you would have to walk, slash,
run exactly.

That is true, But you don't know the next play.
That's going to give that team momentum. Suddenly, this is
something that maybe they watched the tape of crystal Ball.
But you can't let him get behind you. But look,
he's he's already missed one in the game, so it's
not so it's not like he's hey, he's running with confidence.
He already missed one wide left, so you know he's
gonna try to compensate and go wide right.

everybody how great they are and they're all worth their
money because of course they are, because I decided how
much you make. And then you know, things go bad
and there's nine thousand excuses. And when they have to
face a team that has a legitimate NFL talent, it's
us your problem for them. And they're very top heavy.

They kind of remind me a little bit of the
Rams teams that were challenging for Super Bowls a few
years ago. Not with that extreme you know, not with
that many best of breed players, but certainly a roster
that their stars have to really be stars. Man, And
the digs goes down and like you're not going to
get super creative stuff out of the offense or the defense,

like you're really not like micro rex a game or
the defense is pretty average, you know, and now vander
esh is hurt again. Like it's the offensive line not
nearly what it used to be. There's a lot, you know,
there's just sort of a lot of blah there. And
McCarthy's not coaching his way out of a paper bag,
like he's not I mean the idea that like he's
(27:08):
going to fix something, to reinvent something. It is a
very vanilla, boring offense. And the decoordinator who's gotten a
lot of flowers over the last few years. Like again
when he's got a game record, lining up all over
the place doing stuff, it's one thing. But otherwise, you know,
if it's you know, sitting back and playing that cover
three that you know, he and Pete Carroll and those
guys love people have some answers for that, especially when
(27:29):
you face real quarterbacks. So I don't know, guys, you know,
they'll they'll win, you know, games they're supposed to win
and they're not. They won't want a damn thing in
the playoffs, and then there'll be a whole nother off
season of hype, and we'll get to hear about you know,
Trey Lance and how he's looking and all. I mean,
I can you can see the headlines coming. I mean
(27:50):
you can already, you know, you can, you can feel it.
But they're not going to win anything, and they're not
going to be a real contending franchise until they're run
by different people, and that ain't happen at anytime soon.

All right, let's skip back over there to Baltimore. Seven

physical blunders. I mean, there's a couple of sort of

tried and truisms with this team for years now. They
don't have dudes who are any good at catching the football,
and they don't have dudes or any good at rusting
the passer, you know, certainly not since they let Matt
Judon go. So that just is what it is. I mean,
So now they got a young defensive coordinator who's scared
of his own shadow, who wants to sit back and

zone it up, which is fine and it worked really
well from last year. But they don't have Justin Houston anymore,
they don't have Kalay's Campbell anymore, and they haven't really
replaced them with anybody. And Clowney is awesome at getting in,
you know, getting within arms distance of the quarterback, but
not actually bringing them down to the ground, and so
they have to start bringing five and six in critical
situations to get any pressure. And they've been destroyed by
(29:20):
people like Gardner Minshew and Kenny Pickett with the game
on the line in the fourth quarter when you can't
give up a big pass, and they give up a
big pass. I mean, the ball only went one way
at one place yesterday. It was Pickens, and they didn't
have anybody who could stop them in the second half.
So they've got some personnel issues there. You know. They
give Odell Beckham sixteen million bucks. He'll maybe play six

or seven games this year at this pace and not
do a whole lot. Rashad Bateman is just the latest
and a long, long, undistinguished line of Raven's draft, first
round wide receiver draft pickbus and Nelson agil Or drops
the football a lot because well it's Nelson Agilar you know,

just google unlike Agilar, you know, if you aren't already
hip at what's going on there. So yeah, I mean
it's kind of like back to what it used to
be when you had a small, young receiver and Marquise
Brown and you had Mark Andrews and that was the
you know, that was their passing game. They're they're kind
of right back there, and the honeymoon certainly over for
(30:23):
Todd Mounkin, their new offensive coordinator, so you know, running
shovel passes from Mark Andrews and in the golden goost
situations instead of just giving it to Gus Edwards or
you know that guy Lamar Jackson has already got four
rushing touchdowns. So anyway, man, yeah, it was a hell
of them. I mean, people watch Hardball butcher that game.
And then that led right into Brandon Hyde sitting there

and chewing on his own lip and you know, looking
like Forrest Gump. I mean, so yeah, it was a
great day of sports management in Baltimore.

Jay this look obviously yesterday that was the final nail
in the coffin. You lose to Zach Wilson. You give
up all those yards on the ground. How much longer

do they? I mean, I assume they're going to start
making trades. I assume they'll sit Russell Wilson at some
point so they can potentially trade him in the offseason,
have to pay them all that money that he's due
to be on the roster for injury. How do you
see things going forward now the rest of this year
in Denver?

Well, I mean, yeah, I don't know if there's a
suitor out there for Russ. I mean maybe Russ is fine,
Like Russ is not really the problem anymore, right, But if.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
You're starting over, I mean, yeah, yeah, you go do something.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
He's gonna want to draft Callum Williams or get you know,
somebody up the top of the draft. And it's not
a great you know, Kirk Cousins is the headliner, and
the free agent class, there's not a whole lot of
there there, and I think the days of blockbuster you know,
a whole bunch of blockbuster quarterback trades are kind of
over to. So yeah, I mean, I guess somebody out there,
(32:05):
you know, might want Russ, but that I mean, the
defense is just absolutely horrendous. I mean, it's it's so
far below professional braid. It's it's scary. They're making every quarterback,
you know, look like Joe Montana. They don't have pass rush,
they don't have past coverage. It's pretty shameful. Yeah, I

mean the Jets put up thirty one points. I think
that kind of that kind of says everything. But look,
I mean they'll deal some guys in a few weeks
at the deadline, I'm sure, you know, I would think
Chelptatan is going to try to get in the pick
acquisition business as much as he can. And yeah, I mean,

I don't know who the team is, but I guess
it's conceivable that somebody who can't get one of the
top three quarterbacks in this draft sides to go the
Russell Wilson row. But they're just an abject failure as
a football team. Right now, there's just there's there's defense
(33:13):
just camp them in like this defense is really I mean,
his defense is making the Bears in the Vike East
defense look good, which is saying something. I mean, how
horrific they are.

That's a victorious Bears team there, Jason lucking Florida.

Be the only, that might be the one. But they
got Minnesota this week, so who knows. But let's go
to Indianapolis for a second. You get the contract done
with with Jonathan Taylor. Zach Moss runs a muck, but
Anthony Richardson again, he's hurt. Now we're seeing maybe a
month and a half or so before he's ready again.
So it's the return of minshew mania for short term,

but Richard's long term.

Now you've got a big problem on your hand with
a guy who's had to leave three times in five weeks.

Yeah, I mean it's it's absolutely, you know, troublesome and problematic.
And he has squeezed some really big time throws and
some really magnificent you know, rushing plays in between that.
But yeah, I mean he got banged up in over
the summer and it's basically been, you know, every other
game he's played, with a few games out in between,
(34:22):
and look, Minshew's been pretty game for them, and you know,
they're they're they're they're kind of in their own way
and an interesting team, especially in that division where you know,
I don't think anybody's going to run away and hide.
I mean, they don't really kind of beat themselves. You know,
(34:43):
they have a way of hanging around, and they made
some plays in the fourth quarter and watching them put
together some of the ball control drives they did in
the second half of that game to really kind of
ice the Titans. And that's a Titans rush defense that
has been really top tip not since the start of
last season. And what they did with Taylor basically a
(35:05):
spectator against them upfront with some offensive line injuries was
pretty impressive. And Moss was running like a guy who
wants to be paid himself. So yeah, I mean, these
are the kind of games that they would just absolutely
give away when they had a fake football coach last year,
you know, and like they just would, right, they would
(35:27):
have found ten different ways to lose that game with
Jeff Saturday last year. And yeah, Richardson, I don't know
if it's going to be four weeks or whatever, five weeks,
six weeks, but they're going to keep running the ball
and they'll probably keep running the ball pretty effectively no
matter who it is. And I think that's gonna be
a weird little race there. I think that thing's gonna
(35:48):
go like I think Houston's going to hang around. I
think everybody is going to pretty much hang around. And
you know, Jacksonville's going to have to up its efforts
within that division because they haven't been the dominant force
within that division that they probably should be on paper.

infinitely worse because there were expectations that you were gonna

people doing the lazy comparison of this quarterback to this
quarterback and and a bunch of Russell Wilson to a
bunch of guys, and they're like, well, his numbers are better.

Than he's like, yes, but they're empty stats. Yeah, yeah,
like you put.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Up some decent numbers when the Dolphins are clubbing you. Yeah,
and their defensive backs are just like, all right, here's
your eight yard cushion and you complete those passes in
front of him.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
But look, it's not but it's terrible where it's not
where it's not functional. And the Broncos are a tear down.
They're gonna be in tank mode for a quarterback. It's
not just tank for Caleb because now there's three, four
or five guys will go in the first round, right,
I mean I want to get into Quinn youwers a
little bit, because boy, he was fantastic on satur even
though Texas lost. But now they're gonna tank and Russell
(07:18):
Wilson's salary is guaranteed for thirty seven million against seventy
shut up thirty seven million for injury next year, So
you know they're not gonna do that if he's washed
and they're starting over, and he's gonna follow in that
Aaron Rodgers footsteps of do I need to do something
creative with my contract so I can get traded to
a team that's gonna make me a starter and is
(07:40):
gonna keep me around. So and it'll be one bad
year for the Broncos with dead cap money unless they
get him to restructure a little bit to help both
teams with which, look, if Aaron Rodgers contract got worked out,
Russell Wilson's contract can get worked out. But that's the
big thing thirty seven million do. And maybe Russell Wilson
says something simple as no, let's figure it out, let's
do this. Let's X, Y and Z will push the bonus,
(08:02):
we'll push the money. Something can happen to make that.
But he's gonna wind up hitting the bench and it's
gonna be obvious his future is not there. Because you're
gonna believe in Sean Payton or Russell Wilson, someone's gonna
get the blame for this season, and you can't go
into next year saying hey, no, Sewan and Russ got
to figure out No, no, it's a teardown. It's a
new quarterback. It's the only way Sean Payton wins by saying,
(08:23):
give me a new quarterback and let's go from there,
because look, I made Russ into what is good. But
this is about as good as he can be. But
they don't want to have to worry about anything where
they're on the hook with Russell Wilson for next year.
It'll be one bad year money wise, but they'll have
a new quarterback, so it'll be fine. Not like you're
going out in free agency and spending a quarterback and
that's how it's gonna go, and he's gonna hit the
bench and it's gonna be Russell Wilson on a new
team next year. Just watch the curiosity with Wilson. And
(08:46):
this goes back to the conversation we started about Daniel Jones,
who at this point is basically a pinata. I mean,
you want to talk about horrible offensive line play, I'd
like to show mister heel a rough cut of what
came together. I don't need to do all the bells
and whistles and sound effects and all. Here's the rough
cut from the dailies. Tell me what you see. I
(09:09):
like the story today where hey, he could place on it?
Why why? Why would you? Why? Why are you playing it?
He's stuck the offensive line states? But why why?

I'm more and more taking the more of the blame
pie on the offensive line and the fact that well
they have to try to run things out without Barkley.
But to the Russell Wilson side of things, and again
it goes to contracts and who's taking that on and
who still believes that he's the solution. Right, that's the
biggest thing going forward with the teams that are competitive

Russell Wilson, who.

Does he solve problems for? And we're only in a
week five, so that'll become more and more clear of
which might be able to be hoodwinked into making a move.
But you're looking at an eighty five million dollars dead caps.
He's got a huge salary. What is a thirty five
to four who's taking on a bunch of Like I said,

the money, he'll work out the workout the money. If
he's gonna start somewhere, I'll work out money. You want
Russell Wilson as much as you would have wanted Aaron
Rodgers is, Well, you're not. You're not giving up as
much for him. You're not. You're not saying, here's a
second round pick that could be your first round pick
and another second round pick. It's gonna be. Here's if
I'm if I'm in a bad spot and then I'm
in a bad way with my roster, I'm bringing him in. Well,

that depends how bad you are. Are you bad when
you're starting over? No, but are you bad where? Hey,
we're competing, and maybe Russ works in our six team
to want to figure it out, be a playoff team,
and maybe Russ Wilson can can can get a new
start and be better in the second check. Yeah, I
got a table. I was supposed to fix it now,
and it's not gonna You're not gonna be on the
hook for a long deal because that that contract would
be out and you get out of it after next

you go hang out with Belichick. Yeah he could. Oh
can you imagine Russell kidding? They're gonna get each other
problem quarterbacks coming into the league. We'll solve each other's problems.

are football wise. Now, Baseball wise, we got a thing. Yeah,
maybe every game. Now, the Diamondbacks just gonna hit Dodgers
pitching in the first inning. They get three in the
first ending off of Bobby Miller, who throws fifty pitches.
He is now out of the game. Diamondbacks are gonna

take a huge two to zero lead in this series. Meanwhile,
the Phillies and the Braids, and I realized, you know
how I say, I don't you know, one of these
teams is gonna lose. So I'm okay with that. The
Phillies or the Braves are going to lose. So I'm
okay with that because one of them is gonna lose
one I'm gonna lose. You gotta tell yourself you're okay
with that. Yeah, So I am. And I'm okay because
I know one of them is gonna lose. But on
the final play of the game, I realized, you know, yeah,

I'm I'm I'm I'm rooting for the Phillies. Like if
I have to pick, I'm rooting for the Phillies if
I have to, if I have to, if I have
to pick, because I wanted I wanted Bryce Harper to score.
I wanted the Phillies to win this game. And like
I really I realized who I was rooting for. But
then it didn't happen, and I have to realize I
have to go back and now just realize that, Okay,
some team is going to lose. That's how it's gonna go. Yeah,

I mean I figured you would, even though you had
your run ins verbally, I e. You ranting on the
radio against as you called him, Bieber Harper all those
years ago. I think there's now that you hate to
admit that you respect the player that he's grown into
and the guy that he is, right all the incidents
(12:40):
of him with fans and everything, like, there's a lot
of good there, and I think it kind of ticks
you off, but by the same token, there's an appreciation.
And since the Braves.

Kind of ran away and hid them, losing would be
good and it would also be good. I think for baseball,
because you know in the NFL, whenever something happened to
a superstar, you get rules changes. Yeah, maybe the Braves
losing would change the rules. Man, you don't play the
best team in the next round. You don't get five
or six days off before you play a game.

I'll worry about that after this, though. I gotta take
care of this and make sure an NL's team doesn't
win the World Series again. I just gotta take care
of this way, all right. But I did realize all
of that energy gets channeled back into there.

a two play thing, I get it. We thought we
could cut, and he did get six. So it comes
down to fourth and one and the Raiders line up
to go for it, and they line up like they're
(14:38):
gonna snap the ball, but the two minute warning comes
out first, So okay, come to the sideline. Two minute warning.
Raiders face with a fourth and one. Coming out of
the timeout. Daniel Carlson is on for a fifty two
yard field goal, who normally is really good, not so
much tonight, and he doinks it off the right upright. Yeah,
(15:02):
we're going drifting, drifting, and now the Packers have the
football near midfield. There's a review whether or not they
got the first down on the previous play. If not,
they're facing third down. But this is where we're at
right now. There's gonna be a review for a couple
of minutes. Okay, so many things. If you're gonna go
(15:24):
for it, I get the running on Josh Jacobs, it
was Abdullah actually Abdulla, sorry, Abduel on the play, I
get running if it's a two play if it's a
two play thing. But on fourth down, you're gonna trust
a fifty two yard field goal and give the ball
back to the Packers. Where because a fifty two yard
(15:44):
as good as Carlson is, Hey, you know this is
still a tough kick to make, and you need a
yard to win the football game. And it's not like
you haven't running the ball well most of the night.
I mean you have been, so I said, this is
this is a fast all down the middle for the Raiders.
They're gonna run the ball, and they're gonna go for
it on fourth and goal, on fourth and one, and
(16:06):
they're gonna do it. It's not like Jacobs has been
having an unbelievab night, but he's got seventy yards rushing
and may've been able to move the ball a little bit,
and instead they come back out for a field goal
from fifty two yards if this was a forty yard
or thirty five year Okay, we're gonna go up seven,
punt the ball and play defense, or kick the ball off,
play defense. I get it. But it was one play
(16:26):
to win the game. And instead we're choosing a dicey
field goal. Instead, he is going to get obliterated if
they lose this game. And these are the kind these
are the decisions that get people fired. Well, he could
go to the fact that Carlson for his career was
an eighty three percent field goal. Yeah, but it's still yeah,
(16:47):
you know, but and that's the different that's the difference
between analytics and hey. This is the it's not just hey,
it's he's kicking a field goal the final two minutes
of a game, win or lose fifty two yards away.
And here's some here's a bunch of pressure on you.
There's there's a there's a there's different things to go
into it. Then just ah, wait, dude, put him out here. Uh,
this is why moneyball doesn't work in the NFL. I
(17:09):
don't I don't get it. And and and the thing
is is that if you had gone for it on
fourth down, and what Josh McDaniels has to has to
realize is he likes being a head coach. And the
thing that coaches don't think about as much and they
need to is that I can't lose the locker room
if you go for it on fourth down and you
don't get it and you turn it over to to
(17:30):
the to the packers. Okay, let's go out and play defense.
The players like the fact that we go for it.
We have some we have a big belief in our offense.
We can get a yard okay. But when you look
like you're gonna do it and then you pull it off,
you try a field goal, you don't, And how do
you stand there in the locker room after the game
until until it plays. Yeah, I thought the field goal
was gonna work.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
I thought it was gonna work. And you fall to
one and four and suddenly it's how are we one
and four? I don't know? This is this is this
is not acceptable, and these are the decisions because it's
not just losing games. When you lose games and make
really bad decisions, that's how you get fired in the
middle of a season. If you're just a bad coaching
but the team is still playing hard. They'll see you
(18:11):
out till the end of the year. Adam Gase didn't
make really bad decisions with the Jets. He was just
a bad coach. Jets, we're bad team. Wait till the
end of the year. We replace you. But when you
make decisions like this, this is like, hey, we have
no choice because you're losing the guys.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Well, but this is perfect coming off of our crystal
ball conversation, right, It's like, because now he goes, all right,
go play defense. You've dominated all the all game except
for the one drive. And obviously we've seen AJ Dillon
get moving in the second half. But opportunity is still
there to finish the game. And Carlson, yes, there is
(18:45):
the percentage chance. Maybe you decided you didn't like a
play that was dialed up, and upon further consideration, let's
making a touchdown game thinking he's gonna make that make
that kick, which he's done so right early through his
year now twenty four to thirty for his career from
fifty plus. But yeah, it's it's tough when you're already
(19:07):
quote unquote in battled. But I mean, as Mark Davis
told fans last week, smarting up smart en up. He
still believes in his guy. And in this case you've
had with a this is a paint drying kind of game, right,
Not a lot of excitement, No, not a lot of
sizzle going on here.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Would I have liked to see them go for it
on fourth down? Well yeah, at some ac Nobody celebrates
fueld goals until the final seconds, right the last second
there it goes drifting through the uprights or sales wide
if you're on the other side of things. But it's
also a situation whereby you say, well, they still got
(19:51):
a score touchdown if we miss the field goal, they
still got to score a touchdown to beat us, and
Jordan Love, I think you're banking on what your defense
has done. And Crosby being in his kitchen all night,
and how inaccurate he's been. Right, they showed the graphic
before two of six for ten yards on throws beyond
ten yards was Jordan Love with two picks, so saying,
(20:13):
all right, come and beat us.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Yeah, I look, look either way it's a touchdown, right.
And that's the other part of it is that no
way the Packers got to do it right. It's more
for McDaniels. But it's more of a why why do
you make this decision like this when it's clear that
you can do something where it shows you believe in
your team. That's a little bit more percentage chance succeeding, right,
(20:37):
Because honestly, at that point in the game, what's a
better chance you're gonna get a half yard on fourth
and one or you're gonna kick a fifty two yard field. Well,
and that's the thing, right, Well, how far was it? Truly? Right?
In the box score? It read is fourth and two?
Is that a short two?

What are we talking? Yeah? And you know you're going
down distant situation. Remember, as I've been argue with the
analytics side of it, we only have the data off
the ones that have been tried, as opposed to the

the pick, Like, I don't understand how you can have
the contact down there and he's able to turn and look,

optics of it are terrible.

Of his hands literally pushing him away. Yeah, as he
turns to make the interception. So now he gets bailed
down that Josh McDaniel, Yeah, I'm the smartest guy in
the room, smartest guy in the room, smartest guy in
the rooms. But I see he was.

He was in that situation whereby, as we said, they
needed a touchdown either way. So either you make it
a full seven or you would have maybe gone you
go for it and don't get it while you're still defending.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, look, he didn't. He didn't pick
the best chance of success. He didn't pick the most
defendable chance. He picked I thought, Hey, no, let's kick
the fifty two yards fifty two yards, fifty two yards.
It's not a given. Even though we're in the age
of the kicker, and kickers have never been as good
and this NFL history as they are, and Carlson is
normally very good. Uh, that's still a tough That's a
(23:16):
tough one to say, Hey, let's go here and we miss.
We're giving you a short field. That's really, really difficult.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
But it's still for this Packers offense right now, it's
like one hundred million miles. But look, you know you
want to go Proclaimers, you would have to walk, slash,
run exactly.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
That is true, But you don't know the next play.
That's going to give that team momentum. Suddenly, this is
something that maybe they watched the tape of crystal Ball.
But you can't let him get behind you. But look,
he's he's already missed one in the game, so it's
not so it's not like he's hey, he's running with confidence.
He already missed one wide left, so you know he's
gonna try to compensate and go wide right.

He's a confident guy. The other team parents are in

I mean, look, something's never changed. I mean, same as
it ever was. God, I mean, they're a joke. They are.
When they have a chance to punch down in the
white class, they do it, and they struck their stuff,
and you know, the old man gets off fireired up
again and runs down in the locker room and tells

everybody how great they are and they're all worth their
money because of course they are, because I decided how
much you make. And then you know, things go bad
and there's nine thousand excuses. And when they have to
face a team that has a legitimate NFL talent, it's
us your problem for them. And they're very top heavy.
(26:23):
They kind of remind me a little bit of the
Rams teams that were challenging for Super Bowls a few
years ago. Not with that extreme you know, not with
that many best of breed players, but certainly a roster
that their stars have to really be stars. Man, And
the digs goes down and like you're not going to
get super creative stuff out of the offense or the defense,
(26:46):
like you're really not like micro rex a game or
the defense is pretty average, you know, and now vander
esh is hurt again. Like it's the offensive line not
nearly what it used to be. There's a lot, you know,
there's just sort of a lot of blah there. And
McCarthy's not coaching his way out of a paper bag,
like he's not I mean the idea that like he's
(27:08):
going to fix something, to reinvent something. It is a
very vanilla, boring offense. And the decoordinator who's gotten a
lot of flowers over the last few years. Like again
when he's got a game record, lining up all over
the place doing stuff, it's one thing. But otherwise, you know,
if it's you know, sitting back and playing that cover
three that you know, he and Pete Carroll and those
guys love people have some answers for that, especially when
(27:29):
you face real quarterbacks. So I don't know, guys, you know,
they'll they'll win, you know, games they're supposed to win
and they're not. They won't want a damn thing in
the playoffs, and then there'll be a whole nother off
season of hype, and we'll get to hear about you know,
Trey Lance and how he's looking and all. I mean,
I can you can see the headlines coming. I mean
(27:50):
you can already, you know, you can, you can feel it.
But they're not going to win anything, and they're not
going to be a real contending franchise until they're run
by different people, and that ain't happen at anytime soon.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
All right, let's skip back over there to Baltimore. Seven
drop passes officially lost to the Steelers, turnovers, red zone inefficially.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
That was a tough one. I went back and.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
Watched idiot not taking the point decision. Ye, field goal, Yeah,
it's something else. Fumbles, yeah. I mean, look, it was
a lot like the Colts game, which they pretty much
just gave away through the same sort of mental and
physical blunders. I mean, there's a couple of sort of
(28:37):
tried and truisms with this team for years now. They
don't have dudes who are any good at catching the football,
and they don't have dudes or any good at rusting
the passer, you know, certainly not since they let Matt
Judon go. So that just is what it is. I mean,
So now they got a young defensive coordinator who's scared
of his own shadow, who wants to sit back and
(28:57):
zone it up, which is fine and it worked really
well from last year. But they don't have Justin Houston anymore,
they don't have Kalay's Campbell anymore, and they haven't really
replaced them with anybody. And Clowney is awesome at getting in,
you know, getting within arms distance of the quarterback, but
not actually bringing them down to the ground, and so
they have to start bringing five and six in critical
situations to get any pressure. And they've been destroyed by
(29:20):
people like Gardner Minshew and Kenny Pickett with the game
on the line in the fourth quarter when you can't
give up a big pass, and they give up a
big pass. I mean, the ball only went one way
at one place yesterday. It was Pickens, and they didn't
have anybody who could stop them in the second half.
So they've got some personnel issues there. You know. They
give Odell Beckham sixteen million bucks. He'll maybe play six
(29:42):
or seven games this year at this pace and not
do a whole lot. Rashad Bateman is just the latest
and a long, long, undistinguished line of Raven's draft, first
round wide receiver draft pickbus and Nelson agil Or drops
the football a lot because well it's Nelson Agilar you know,
(30:02):
just google unlike Agilar, you know, if you aren't already
hip at what's going on there. So yeah, I mean
it's kind of like back to what it used to
be when you had a small, young receiver and Marquise
Brown and you had Mark Andrews and that was the
you know, that was their passing game. They're they're kind
of right back there, and the honeymoon certainly over for
(30:23):
Todd Mounkin, their new offensive coordinator, so you know, running
shovel passes from Mark Andrews and in the golden goost
situations instead of just giving it to Gus Edwards or
you know that guy Lamar Jackson has already got four
rushing touchdowns. So anyway, man, yeah, it was a hell
of them. I mean, people watch Hardball butcher that game.
And then that led right into Brandon Hyde sitting there
(30:46):
and chewing on his own lip and you know, looking
like Forrest Gump. I mean, so yeah, it was a
great day of sports management in Baltimore.

Jay this look obviously yesterday that was the final nail
in the coffin. You lose to Zach Wilson. You give
up all those yards on the ground. How much longer

do they? I mean, I assume they're going to start
making trades. I assume they'll sit Russell Wilson at some
point so they can potentially trade him in the offseason,
have to pay them all that money that he's due
to be on the roster for injury. How do you
see things going forward now the rest of this year
in Denver?
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Well, I mean, yeah, I don't know if there's a
suitor out there for Russ. I mean maybe Russ is fine,
Like Russ is not really the problem anymore, right, But if.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
You're starting over, I mean, yeah, yeah, you go do something.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
He's gonna want to draft Callum Williams or get you know,
somebody up the top of the draft. And it's not
a great you know, Kirk Cousins is the headliner, and
the free agent class, there's not a whole lot of
there there, and I think the days of blockbuster you know,
a whole bunch of blockbuster quarterback trades are kind of
over to. So yeah, I mean, I guess somebody out there,
(32:05):
you know, might want Russ, but that I mean, the
defense is just absolutely horrendous. I mean, it's it's so
far below professional braid. It's it's scary. They're making every quarterback,
you know, look like Joe Montana. They don't have pass rush,
they don't have past coverage. It's pretty shameful. Yeah, I
(32:31):
mean the Jets put up thirty one points. I think
that kind of that kind of says everything. But look,
I mean they'll deal some guys in a few weeks
at the deadline, I'm sure, you know, I would think
Chelptatan is going to try to get in the pick
acquisition business as much as he can. And yeah, I mean,
(32:52):
I don't know who the team is, but I guess
it's conceivable that somebody who can't get one of the
top three quarterbacks in this draft sides to go the
Russell Wilson row. But they're just an abject failure as
a football team. Right now, there's just there's there's defense
(33:13):
just camp them in like this defense is really I mean,
his defense is making the Bears in the Vike East
defense look good, which is saying something. I mean, how
horrific they are.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
That's a victorious Bears team there, Jason lucking Florida.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
It might only.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
Be the only, that might be the one. But they
got Minnesota this week, so who knows. But let's go
to Indianapolis for a second. You get the contract done
with with Jonathan Taylor. Zach Moss runs a muck, but
Anthony Richardson again, he's hurt. Now we're seeing maybe a
month and a half or so before he's ready again.
So it's the return of minshew mania for short term,
(33:52):
but Richard's long term.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Man.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
Now you've got a big problem on your hand with
a guy who's had to leave three times in five weeks.
Speaker 4 (33:59):
Yeah, I mean it's it's absolutely, you know, troublesome and problematic.
And he has squeezed some really big time throws and
some really magnificent you know, rushing plays in between that.
But yeah, I mean he got banged up in over
the summer and it's basically been, you know, every other
game he's played, with a few games out in between,
(34:22):
and look, Minshew's been pretty game for them, and you know,
they're they're they're they're kind of in their own way
and an interesting team, especially in that division where you know,
I don't think anybody's going to run away and hide.
I mean, they don't really kind of beat themselves. You know,
(34:43):
they have a way of hanging around, and they made
some plays in the fourth quarter and watching them put
together some of the ball control drives they did in
the second half of that game to really kind of
ice the Titans. And that's a Titans rush defense that
has been really top tip not since the start of
last season. And what they did with Taylor basically a
(35:05):
spectator against them upfront with some offensive line injuries was
pretty impressive. And Moss was running like a guy who
wants to be paid himself. So yeah, I mean, these
are the kind of games that they would just absolutely
give away when they had a fake football coach last year,
you know, and like they just would, right, they would
(35:27):
have found ten different ways to lose that game with
Jeff Saturday last year. And yeah, Richardson, I don't know
if it's going to be four weeks or whatever, five weeks,
six weeks, but they're going to keep running the ball
and they'll probably keep running the ball pretty effectively no
matter who it is. And I think that's gonna be
a weird little race there. I think that thing's gonna
(35:48):
go like I think Houston's going to hang around. I
think everybody is going to pretty much hang around. And
you know, Jacksonville's going to have to up its efforts
within that division because they haven't been the dominant force
within that division that they probably should be on paper.
