Speaker 2 (00:33):
Look at four man rush. They're chasing them down, get
off toward the info and it is picked off.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Oh that's gonna get inter Offley's had it and it's hollow.
At the twenty.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Heyby welcome thirty he's cutting back inside forty at my
New York for twenty five twenty.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
On the right, Tam five down a ho what a.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Py But the play gi We had all the big
guy chasing them, all those big offits.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Alive, but they had no chance to get them. The
clock runs out that halftime.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
I have a great Thanksgiving because Big Bull is Jay
et Jets.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Do you want to play the butt fumble anything else?
You don't play.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Offensive pool. Maybe get a busted play here and then
lends changes gets hit.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
The ball is loose and it's alive and it's return
for a touchdown. Welcome Mack. You know, maybe just not
have the Jets play Thanksgiving Day or the day after things,
but holidays in spectacular fast. Let me tell you something.
You're gonna rename him for the Jets. Let me tell
you something. We can start with a Jets snite because
his game is awful. We're live from the ti rag
(01:47):
dot com studios. Tirack dot com will help you get there,
an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack dot com is
the way tire buying should be. But let me just
tell tell you this for the first time, and I
can't even tell you how long. As soon as they
crossed the goal line with the pail Mary pick six,
(02:10):
I turned the game off and I was done. And
I didn't go back. I didn't watch the rest of
the game. I was just done. I'm like, you know what,
there's certain losses that kind of break you when you
die a little bit inside. Sure, like Doug Brian missing
those two field goals. In the playoff game against the
Steelers about fifteen years ago. Died a little bit inside
the butt fumble. I died a little bit inside cause
I knew they were going to play that forever. And
(02:32):
once that happened, I just we were visiting friends and
I said, let's what what what game? What game? They
were all playing games. I was watching the game. What
are we playing? Oh, we're playing trained Dominoes. I'm in. Wait,
but I thought you're watching the game. Nope, I know.
I don't want you to talk to me about it.
I'm in. Didn't watch the rest of the game for
the I can't even tell you first and al, I
didn't watch the Jets because I did sorely done. Didn't
(02:53):
help with the meat sweats, Yeah sure, oh yeah, it
definitely helped, But it was it was just I That's
why I died a little bit right there. Like I
always say, moments, I understand when fans just get to
a point where going, what am I doing? Why am
I even?
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Really?
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Why am I watching? I'm done? I'm done. I'm not
I really I would I retire whenever that day happen,
whatever that magical mystical day comes, would I retire. Am
I really gonna say, Hey, now they can watch the
Jets on Sunday? Shit, No, never gonna watch them again.
I'm never gonna watch There is the potential of just
walking the earth like Caine and Kung Fu. I'm never
gonna watch them. Hey did you see the Jets? What's
(03:28):
a jet like? You've been going to them its so long.
You've had so many adventures and trials in your life
that you don't even remember what a jet is. No,
I just I couldn't. I said, of course that's how
it's gonna go. Of course, that's how it's gonna go.
But again, if you're gonna have something define your first experience,
I mean, no, I don't want to, amzi anybody last
Friday game. There's kids growing up now who are like
(03:50):
you know who now, like in their early twenties, and hey,
what are the two biggest plays? You remember? The butt
fumble and the fail? Mary? Yeah, but you got some holidays,
doesn't matter. You would now have any built an excuse
to get plasteredan to forget about those plays. My entire forties,
the Jets did not make the playoffs. Some kids went
going their entire middle school high school and college years.
(04:12):
Never seen the Jets make the playoffs. Wow, they've just
think about that, man, But about also coming out of
that espousing the Homer Simpson value of never try why bother?
That was I was done. I was, I turned off.
I said, that's it. I mean, you're not gonna go
back and watch a game? No, because I want to
be happy. And I'm not going to watch the rest
of the No. No, because I'm not going to eating you
(04:33):
up to see exactly how bad.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
No.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
I check. I checked at the end because Garrett Wilson
in a couple of fantasy teams. But I checked it.
But that was it. That was I'm done. Didn't see
the rest of the game. Didn't want to nikon. He
caught that touchdown at the end, which was a seventeen
point game, pretod the touchdowns all count. But where's he at? Yeah?
(04:56):
But I was. It was so I was so depressed.
I'm like, of course, that's how it goes. And and
the thing is, I know every Jet fan said the
same thing as soon as he caught that ball. The
just the the the hutzpah and the and and the knowledge.
I could take this all the way back because it's
the Jets. And as soon as the guy I said
he's gonna go all the way back plays into the
(05:16):
fact that he's gonna take it all the way highlights
all day he's able to take it all the way back.
And the thing Jets is a nice little addition, don't
get me wrong. And the thing, you know, and but
against other teams that would have figured out and here's
the thing is all Tim Boyle had to do right
on that play. All Tim Boyle had to do was
just force him back to the inside because Garrett Wilson,
who ran one hundred and on that play, would have
tackled him. But no, no, I'm gonna I can't force
(05:37):
him back inside. I'm gonna let him go around me
and Garrett Wilson can't get there, and we have the
second worst play that the Jets have in the past
twenty years. Because the butt FuMB will always be number one. Yeah,
I mean to be fair, though, I mean, Boyle has
seen so many quarterbacks blown up and he's the starter,
I mean the question starter. I do have to say this,
would I rather watch the second half of that game
(06:00):
knowing how it ended, or the rest of this game
with the Bears and the Vikings. Well, I'll tell you
that well as a as a Chicago native, this game
I was awful right there. And see how bad this says.
Let's talk about your craptastic team. You know how bad
your team is? Three As you're HEARDing the updates from
Steve to Sayer, all these long drives and field goal attempts, penalties, uh,
(06:23):
dropped intercept They've caught a couple of interceptions of Josh
Dobbs and made it made him look like he's turning
back into a pumpkin. They held TJ. Howkinson without a
catch in the first half, all of these great milestones,
and then it was penalty after penalty, and they had
several opportunities, Josh Dobbs throwing the ball inexplicably into the
flat lazy lollipop, almost Mac Jones like, but they don't
(06:45):
decide they don't want to catch it, and they bobble
it instead of catching it cleanly as I called for
the third interception off a tip pass of Josh Dobbs. Now,
let's see what the Bears defense Bears offense this game.
This game is six to three with two minutes ago
in the third quarter. Now, I understand both team's defensive
playing pretty well. Sure right, they've both been playing with
(07:06):
the Vikings defense especially has been playing very well, but
the Bears defense has played well as well. But still, man,
if I said to you, hey, I want to bet
at any time touchdown, are you advising me? Yes, bet
in anytime touchdown? Are you saying no? Are you saying
that includes defensive players? Any touchdown? Any touchdown, any touchdown?
You still got any time touchdown?
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:25):
You sure? Yeah? You had hang on thirty four minutes
before and you haven't got one.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
It's like when you give me a jar open, I
haven't got one yet. You loosened it up, you know,
and you're grunting and straining. But yeah, said they Eventually,
the damn's gonna break here a lot of really really
you think really? One? You think you're not telling me
I need one and a half. This is like watching
me I need one. It's like watching Iowa play Iowa.
(07:53):
And this is where this is where we're at right now. See,
the Bears and Vikings have entered a four way spider
Man me with the Steelers and the hawk eys. This
is just awful. The Hawkeys who will play for the
Big Ten later this week, and again I don't know
what would What would I rather do? Would I rather
watch the Jets play that second half that I didn't watch?
Would I rather watch this game? Or would I rather
(08:14):
get some kind of advice off the internet from Sports Illustrated?
What's the what's the best? What's the best thing to
do that? I always the problems coming out? What's the
best thing to do? There? I think you see what
kind of story you can generate from s I dude.
If Rick Riley turns out to not be a real
dude and a replicant, I'm gonna have a tough time.
He was just an actor. Did anybody hire when he
(08:36):
needed to show up for something? Rick Riley was on TV?
Was he actually there? I mean, we don't. I don't know.
Was he actually there green screen? What about Steve Rushing,
the guy that wrote the back Man? He might have
done that m Max Headlin the whole time. I don't
know that he's real. He may not be real. He's
married to Rebecca Lobo. Rebecca Lobo might not be real.
They can look at this man, I don't know, like
Rebecca Frank the Ford might not be real. All the
(08:59):
Sports Illustrated may not be real now it's starting to unravel,
like okay, just to get you caught up on this
story in the continuum tonight. Tonight's show is brought to
you by Discover. If you like using debit over credits

Back debit Discover Bank member fd i S reports out
today that Sports Illustrated has been using AI writers people
who aren't real that have bios created for them that
you can apparently buy the AI entity really online and
(09:44):
that that's how some outdoor articles and outdoor columns have
been written by Sports of you know, people's reviews of
national parks. And it's like the people they found out
is that they he here's two people, don't have any
online presence, none of that, and it's it's the same thing.
It's there's no online presence. And when they looked and
(10:05):
found this person, they found that that AI was for
sale and so some we could behay, we have an
AI for sale. This person's a writer and writes for
Outdoors for Sports Illustrated, So okay, you can buy this person. Uh.
And this is a story of Sports Illustrated today and
has a lot of This is a huge deal. It's
a huge story, and there's a lot of controversy about it,
and we're just getting into the beginning of it. But
(10:27):
I will say this, you want to know where AI
was going to destroy the world. This is a first
of Sports Illustrated articles. Then it's skynet man, that's what
it's gonna be. Who playing, Who plays Ching Jing Jing
Jing Jing? Sarah Connor changing Ching Ching Ching? I really,
(10:47):
I mean when I saw that, I said, really, they
fake writers. I mean, now, it's good at least that
they're not. Didn't try to at least like have fake
writers allegedly, right, you know, like article on football players
or baseball play something that would get found out pretty quickly.
This is the outdoors. We're gonna write about the outdoors.
Talked to a guy. Oh wait, I talked to I
(11:11):
talked to a wolf in the woods today. He told
me where Bigfoot was. I'm going to find him tomorrow. Nice.
I know they they now they sound better. But I mean,
but that's kind of kind of the AI way to go. Yeah.
So now now you've got the denials, you've got the
union up in our I heard Carissa Thompson was the
editor in chief. Uh no, she actually actually interviewed the
(11:35):
people who have the AI and she didn't get him
on camera, so she just had the halftime report on camera.
No on camera. There was no on camera, no on camera.
Had to take it on faith. Harmon and I are
just on camera, Harmon, I you just on camera? So
which which play upsets you? Morris Smith? The but the
new one? We just moved on to the sports like
you know, okay, I gotta get down to the you know,
(11:55):
the kid stuff. You know, one upsets you, this one,
what's your soul?
Speaker 3 (11:59):
More?
Speaker 1 (12:00):
One upsets me more because I've been used to the
butt fumble now for a decade now, grow numb to
it to I got this one like now, because I
could always blame Sanchez for not holding onto the bleeping
football and all kinds of crazy ass stuff like that. This,
I'm like, come on, man, news, I mean, what's that?
The good news is you never have to hear the
butt fumble again? Okay, I just got to hear this.
(12:20):
Now it's been replaced with this. Oh good, Wait the
butt fumbels out of the system for good. I didn't
sign off on that's what That's what I'll take that win.
ELL's he get decided what he take that. He doesn't
get to make that decision, of course I did. It's
Ai Frostburg. He's not really here. He hasn't been here
in months. It's just it's just Ai justin. He's still
trying to save the penalty kick from Flowers. He doesn't have.
(12:42):
It's Ai Frostburg, that's all. He's not He's not real.
He's not real, that's all. Look, Mike, did you not
hear me ask him which one hurts his soul? I
get that, but I mean you still got to keep
it in the rotation. You know, here's the here's the
all right. You want to know the worst part of
that play was? Is that obviously, well the embarrassment of
it knowing it because happened before, exactly, because here's how
(13:05):
bad it was. You've seen quarterbacks fumble the ball, ball
get taken back for a touchdown. You've seen stuff like that.
But I like how they said since the NFL has
been tracking hail Mary passes since two thousand and six.
They believe it's the first time that's ever happened, like
like that, we can't go back. There's no like everything
(13:25):
is on microfiche and it's from the eighteen hundreds and
you're in the fire like you're in uh I was,
I was in the library. I know that the newspaper
articles only go back so far. It's like you can't
find out. You don't have the records. I mean, you
don't have the records. It's all about since ye since
the NFL had been keeping records, no one knows of
a hail Mary's been returned for a touchdown. This is
believed to be the first time. I remember, for a
(13:46):
lot of years they didn't count sex, so they estimate
guys step secks is a good thing. It's like, okay,
that's fine, but the same thing. First time since we've
been counting, we're not and you know what, we're not sure.
Maybe it's happened, maybe it hasn't happened since the advent
to the hailmt. We don't know. We know it could
be the first time that's ever happened before. Yeah, I
(14:08):
really need to up my game in terms of the
creatives of doing my graphic design and stuff, because it
is time to really be able to pump out T
shirts off crap like that, really contest.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
Well, here we are, fifty five seconds left to go. Yeah,
the Vikings with a ten to nine lead over the Bears.
Teams have combined for six turnovers. Huh. After Justin Field's
second fumble of the game, Bears get the ball back.
He just hits DJ Moore on a huge gain down
to the Vikings ten yard line. Dj Moore limps off
(14:51):
the field in pain, is being looked at on the sideline,
and now the Bears are kneeling on the football. They're
going to take the clock all the way down and
attempt a thirty after they kneel on the ball one
more time. It's gonna be a field goal of under
thirty five yards to win this game over the Vikings
twelve to ten Bears football. Bears football. The under is
(15:16):
gonna go twenty eight to nine Bears football. Oh so
it's a win. Right, if we're gonna say you take
the w's, however you can for other teams. Right. We
talked about it with Jason locking for last hour. The
nitpicking and denigration of the job done by the Eagles. Well,
they're not doing this well, they're slow starting. Well, it's like,
(15:40):
did they win.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
They won.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
We can talk about officiating. We could talk about some
decision making on both sides, but they got the w.
Likewise for the Bears here, assuming he doesn't pull a
Ryland they did that. Yeah, no, it's unaware. That's the
new England Patriots kicker. Sure we missed a thirty five
I've you hearder yesterday that would have tied the game.
(16:03):
You know, the team's giving up ten or fewer points
this year are fifty to two. Guess what team has
those two losses? Patriots. So yeah, we're looking at the
Bears trying to well win a game that they should
have been winning going away and did everything they could
to hand it on a silver platter to Josh Dobbs
(16:26):
and the Minnesota Vikings. So Cairo Santos is on for
what would be a game winning field goal. It's a
thirty yard attempt and the Bears are out of timeouts.
They're gonna try to take this all the way down.
Snap the ball as little time left as possible, because
the Vikings are gonna get at least a play or
two depending on how this goes. Santosi's field goal is
(16:49):
up and good. Ten seconds left. The Bears lead a
twelve to ten. I'll tell you this football game, really,
it's like watching Iowa scrimmage itself. This is fan this
is fantastic. You know what seventy two man, I'll tell
you it's gonna be a in theory. No, no, no, no,
you got to tell me the truth. Now, you gotta
tell me the truth. Now take your Bears fan out
of this now, because I know you're excited to wait. Oakay.
(17:10):
You have said for almost tend fully on this show,
I celebrate you. It was I celebrate all two fifty six.
We added the other did yeah? Now I celebrate all
to seventy two. Do you really celebrate all you?
Speaker 3 (17:21):
No?
Speaker 1 (17:22):
You die? I do. I just celebrate them on a
different this game, different scale. No, No, because it's another
game where there was opportunity, that there was a chance
for glory. I mean you saw DJ Moore, he had
seventy three yards of yack. Either you celebrate it, you
don't just celebrate I celebrate it way less. Either to
celebrate wholeheartedly every friend's birthday the same. Oh no, no,
(17:47):
you die some. You don't send a note to some.
Even if you're in the room you say, give me
my cake. I'm leaving. Wow. But I don't walk around
here and say I celebrate all my friend's birthday. I
don't do it. Do You're gonna celebrate them less? And
I know you don't. I don't walk around so I
celebrate everybody's birthday here.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
I know.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
I know I don't. But you walk around saying, oh,
I loll to seventy two I national football, even if
I have an airing of grievances thirty seven pages long.
Even the people way this thing is gone down to
the people at this game. Don't celebrate this game. No,
they did, because once you pay the money and you
show up, no, your plot committeeah and if nothing else,
(18:26):
you'll find a guy in an Irlacker jersey or a
Devin Hester jersey, and you'll say you never want anything. Uh.
The Vikings run the kick back out of the not
run it back, They run it out of the end zone.
They get it out to about the thirty five yard line,
so there will be time for wah, it's gonna be
(18:49):
tough to try to throw an out for five seconds.
Maybe it's a hail Mary, one of those crazy lateral plays.
That's what the Vikings have right now to try to
win this game over the Bears. So, I mean, I
don't know if Josh Shabs can make it all the way.
I think you saw what happened when the Jets tried.
It didn't go so well. The Vikings are going to
try to run some kind of crazy lateral fumble Rooski, No, no, no,
(19:12):
the Vikings are doing the whole fumble thing, and it's
it's kind of interesting so far. And that's a forward pass.
That's going to be a forward pass. Game's over. This
is a fun play, though, No, it's still going Every
offensive lineman's going to touch it. There's been about eleven
laterals on this. Finally they fumble recovery at the end,
(19:32):
celebrate the hell out of it. That is great. Finally,
you know that play was exciting. Somewhere you can mark
the other fifty nine minutes and fifty five seconds of
this game that was fun. That was the best thing
this game had. And somewhere many people are celebrating a
fantasy win because the Bears got the turnover on the
final play. Plus you're not that final play that really
(19:53):
it was about fifteen laterals and in the middle of
it a flag goes up where was a forward lateral
because Josh Dobbs tried to throw it back across the
field and it's forward. But they still keep the play
going another seven or eight laterals. Finally the Bears fall
in the football. They win at twelve to ten. The
Bears are now at four and eight and the Vikings
fall to six and six the Visions. The Bears are
(20:15):
also now the first team this season. Mike, you want
to say, no, go ahead, go ahead? I was scribbling
it down. But gonna win a game without scoring a touchdown?
Did you see about teams coming into this game? We're
zero to twenty eight Bears again, they don't have to
(20:35):
be pretty, just get the dub And I will say this,
I celebrated that play. That play was fun. That play
was fun, but not the whole game. It was a
great end. It's not worth it, No, it's not worth it.
It's like I'm not sitting through a two and a
half hour movie just to get to a good ending,
adding that sets up a sequel. I'm not sitting through
the game at all. That's the case. Why you quit
all together on your squad. Now, look even in a
(20:57):
week where Aaron Rodgers could practice.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
It.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Now, look, let me just tell you so, let me
be real about something here. Yeah, this game's stunk. Bear's
beating the well that yeah that we know number two
seventy one and two. Yeah, I don't know that this
game is. I know this game gets out of the
two seventies when you're right now, No no, no, no, it's
gonna be bottom three. But right now, I'm just gonna hold.
Isn't there somebody who ranks them all? Yeah, it'll be me.
No no, no, no, no, somebody that does it, like
(21:25):
every year they do it. Maybe rank every game as
to how entertaining it was. Maybe they do. I don't know.
It sounds like a nice little thing that we can
add to our resume here on the show. For another
great stat from the oh yeah, they just keep coming in.
Matt Iberflus now has his first win against an NFC
North opponent. How many games do you think it took him.
(21:47):
Oh wait, wait, his first win is first Wina North
opponent six eleven. This is his twenty ninth game. No,
come on, he's never won untilt. No, no way, no way, really,
no way. He'd never beaten nor Wayne games they lost
(22:11):
to the Lions. He was nine before tonight. Oh that's insane.
But but that goes back to remember when Lovey Smith
and everybody was mad when he got fired. Now on
the grand scale, he was, you know, the exalted leader
compared to all the guys they've hired since. But the
problem was he couldn't win in December, and he couldn't
(22:32):
win against divisional foes like it just got terrible time
and time again. You get the Thanksgiving and it was awful.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
With Eberflus, it's been an absolute joke, an absolute train wreck.
There's no way. Frostburg, there's no way. If he's not
popping champagne post game, there's no way.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Six and twenty two is a head coach against the North,
the Jets, including that game against Detroit last week that
they should have won going away, and then started calling
dive plays when Justin Fields had one hundred and four
rushing yards, was getting to the edge, creating plays and
openings in the passing game, musing his mobility. Instead, No,
(23:14):
let's run the ball into the line. Let the Lions
call timeouts and stop the clock. So we literally have
a nine second possession. Okay, that got to like fifty
one by time you ticked off a bunch of the
other But I mean, just absurd absurdity, man. So yeah,
this is a huge win for Eberflus. One of us
might want to check in on our boss. Got Not
(23:36):
even the Jets could do something like that. I shouldn't
say that, I would say that, not even the Jets
could do something like this. Yeah, I don't know how
excited I am about the w though. Why you're exciting?
It doesn't continuation. You're still getting the first overall pick
in the draft because the Panthers are gonna finish, that's all.
(23:57):
You're fine? You sure they can't light light a fire?
Do the next guys that have Tepper over their show.
Let me just listen, Let me just let me just
tell you one thing. Let me tell you one thing
because because look the big part of this game. Look,
the Bears win, and we're talking about what they're gonna
do at quarterback and Justin Fields is the very glass
half empty game tonight. The Panthers fired Frank right today,
(24:17):
strictly because I'm sure David Tepper just said, we are
not just handing this pick to the Bears. We're not
just gonna give it up to them without fighting and
clawing with our fingernails for those inches. We're not gonna do.
We gotta win some game, guys, not gonna give this
to that. Guys we're holding up pictures of DJ Moore
and Christian mccanmry. Not gonna give this to them. We
have to go fire our guy. We have to fire.
(24:39):
We gotta go. Someone started chanting, we gotta Robertson in
the background. Right, we gotta go win games. Right, We
got it. When we're not just gonna give the Bears
our number, the number one overall pick in the drab,
We're not gonna do it. We're We're gonna go hire
somebody else to come in and watch the Patriots tank
for the number one overall pick in the draft. But
that's the whole thing to me. The Patriots Belichick's not
gonna be there. You would think with the Elchick. Being
(25:00):
how he is, he's gonna do everything you can to
win a couple of games. So the Patriots don't pick first. No, see,
I think absolutely in full tank mode. He knew Ryland
was no good. Go ahead, kid, have a head. I mean,
come on, the guy missed two a third of his
field goals all year. Yeah, a third of his field goals. Yeah,
you had Nick Folk. I mean, you know it's it's
been Ryland. I mean really, but I can't, dude, I
(25:23):
can't see the NFL man. This is eber Flus's first
win against again. I got the specificity on that.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Great.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Did the Jets beat the Bills earlier this year?
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Now?
Speaker 1 (25:36):
This is great?
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Though?
Speaker 1 (25:36):
Up twenty six to twenty one, right with three minutes
left against the Lions. First down, Khalil Herbert up the middle,
no game, time out, Detroit, Second down Khalil Herbert, one yard,
time out Detroit, third down, shotgun incomplete the Tyler Scott
and then you have the punt. Final possession time, three plays,
(25:59):
one yard, twenty six seconds last. That's ebral football, baby, dude.
All right, you're not gonna have him after this year? Okay,
you know you're not. How many years he got left
on jet. Doesn't matter, You're not gonna have what do
you know, There's no way they're getting rid of him, dude.
You know what you know, dude, I've already seen the trade.
It's Brandon Stalley from att Eberflus. It's gonna happen. It's
(26:22):
good right right soon as the two defense have Wizards
game after it? No comment, Yeah, I mean I can't.
This is his first win against an NFC northl Yeah,
come on, no, because everybody kept calling for you to
get fired during the year. We were talking about it,
Brandon Stanley coach, and he said, no, he hasn't what
(26:44):
this is his seventh win, man, Dude, even the Jets
and the Raiders have won games against their division. Just
telling you it's I mean, I I just can't believe
this is real. Why do you aged terribly? I can't
believe over well, dude, it's not like you had. I mean,
come on, you had, you know, world beaters before that. No, no, no,
(27:05):
but there were some expectations. I used to call you
on the phone. You would say it's Lovey's fault. Like
with I just just say hello, how you doing. Lobby's fault?
Speaker 2 (27:12):
That was you.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
We blamed love for years. That was you. That was
you the whole time, dude. And now I sing eber
Flus like I'm in pearl Jam, I'm standing at a beach, Mike,
where's champagne? It's actually in the fridge. I'll bring it tomorrow, Matt, Matt,
Jason Smith, Fox Sports Radio. How happy are you to
get at least one win against an NFC North opponent
before you get fired. I'll take them off here, I'll
(27:37):
take it off here his I mean his for Come
on right now, they're putting them up on their shoulders
in the locker room.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
Well joining us now, I'm the hotline to break down
not just a big weekend, but a big Monday as
Frank Reich is let go as Carolina Panthers head coach.
It's a long time NFL insider Jason Locking for it.
Check them out on Odyssey, Washington Post, and now Jason
Lock and for are personally hired by David Tepper to
take over in Carolina. Jy Lock, Congratulations, good.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Luck, job I should be so lucky. Man hire me,
fire me, pay me to go away.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Damn right.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
It's good work if you can get it, or good
firing if you can get it, I guess.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Or yeah, dude, who would want this job? Firing coaches
all the time. No guys would want it. Who really
good is going to want this job?
Speaker 3 (28:33):
I don't know. I mean it's Look, there's people who
I mean a lot of them who are in the
coaching profession who would look at you know, getting hired
to coach one of these thirty two teams is sort
of the coronation of their career and their life's work.
And you know, it pays really well, and yeah you've
(29:00):
got to put up with a tyrant toddler. But there
are no utopias. Uh, we'll see what this job looks
like versus the field. I mean, obviously it's gonna, you know,
somewhat depend on what you think of Bryce Young. They
don't have what's probably going to be the first overall pick,
which is obviously a kick in that. You know, Watts.
(29:22):
They didn't gut this team as much as they could
have the last couple of trade deadlines. You know why.
Brian Burns is still there. I mean it, it's not great,
but the end neither is the NFC South. And the
ball bounces, you know, it's an oblong, oblong ball. It
bounces in strange ways. You know, things happen, and what
(29:45):
will be fascinating is just what this search is like.
You know, he really had a thing for Ben Johnson
of the Lions, their offensive coordinator a year ago, and
he didn't want much to do with that job. And
then you heard a lot coming out about oh, he
just wants to stay, and he did. But like, would
Tepper just keep throwing money at this guy until he
took it? I don't know. Everybody, I guess has a price.
(30:10):
You would tend to think it's going to be an
offensive guy because now you know they've set this up
to try to make this Bryce young pick look like
it wasn't a total bust, and I would guess. I mean,
part of me is like it would be a younger,
cheaper guy because he's paying two coaches still. But then
there's another part of me and it's like, I, you know,
(30:32):
I don't think he cares about that, so who knows.
I'll tell you this, I'll never figure out why he
didn't just keep Steve Well, I mean I will, but
like if he had kept Steve Wilks, I guarantee you
they'd have won more than a game. I mean, I
don't know, guys, but he's kind of like the Jimmy
(30:53):
Haslam of the NFC. They came from Pittsburgh, they were
around the ruinies forever, right, you'd think they'd know better,
but they just don't seem like they'll ever get out
of their own way.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
That's it. You did quote Ted Dibiassi in the middle
of that, so I'd be remiss if I didn't reference that.
As everybody does have a price. How about one of
the great reclamation stories of the year, Vance Joseph doesn't
get fired suddenly. The defense playing well for Denver, are
we ready to buy in on them as a contender
in the AFL?
Speaker 3 (31:24):
I mean, I think they're a contender, and so much
as they're a team that could certainly get in the playoffs.
And that's not something a lot of people were talking
about over the summer. That's not anything anybody was talking
about when they lost seventy to twenty or whatever, you know,
down in South Beach. And yeah, the defense in particular
now being the strength of what has become a winning
football team and the hottest team in the NFL, you know,
(31:49):
or the second if you want to say the Eagles
are hotter because they were beating better teams or whatever.
You know, what they've done, can't you can't minimize. So yeah,
they're viable. I mean, that tiebreaker with the Bills could
be huge, you know. The tiebreaker with the Browns not
so much because the Browns are only gonna win another
couple games without a quarterback. But I'm buying what they're selling.
(32:13):
They let you kind of run on them between the twenties,
but they stiffen up big time in the red zone.
They're not giving up offensive touchdowns. I mean, I think
they've given up eight offensive touchdowns the last six games.
They turn you over. Russe Wilson does not turn it over.
He doesn't cook, but he doesn't cook himself. He doesn't
based in his own juices either, and he throws the
(32:37):
jump ball to Sudden when they need it, and most
of the time they'll just road grade. He's gonna run
Javonte Williams twenty times a game. He's gonna get p
Ryan in there a little bit, he's gonna get the
mclocker and get in there a little bit. They're going
to manage a close game and Sean Payton knows how
to win. So they've sort of restored a home field
advantage there now along the way. So yeah, I'm buying them.
(32:59):
I think they have a very good shot to get
in the playoffs, and if they beat the Texans this weekend,
right that now we're talking about another head to head tiebreaker, which,
as we know, are huge.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
Jason locking for NFL Insider with Us The Jason Smithshow
with Mike Carmon Lott from the TIREC dot Com Studios.
All right, Marquee Game of the week. We watch the
Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts come from behind to win
that big game over the Bills, and the Bills are
still trying to figure things out. You know, for all
this talk of hey, the forty nine ers might be
the best team, here come the Chiefs. When I watch
(33:33):
the Philadelphia Eagles, Jay, they always seem to do whatever
they need to do. I mean, I know they're asking themselves,
how the hell do we lose to the Jets, But
every game it's like, whatever we need to do we're
going to do because we're just waiting for the playoffs
to really show you something. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
I mean, look, I don't know if they're holding anything
back or not, but they know how to win football games.
They know how to do enough to win football games.
And what I like about the most is sort of
what you're alluding to. They don't need to win them
one way. There's not like they're one of these teams where, Okay,
they're really good, but this is why they're good, and
if it goes this way, they're great. And if it doesn't, boy,
(34:10):
I don't know. If they need to get down and
dirty and run thirty five times and win that way,
they can. If they need to throw forty five times
and win that game that way, they can. They can
beat you on the road, they can beat you at home.
You know. They tend not to let up nearly as
much as most good teams against bad teams, and everybody's
kind of gunning for them now and giving them their
(34:31):
best shot, and that doesn't phase them either. Finding a
way to win that game with Layton Johnson being a
late scratch was pretty huge to me. They can win
on a day when it's perfect to pitch and catch.
They can win on a day when it's thirty five
in sleading, Like, yeah, I don't know how you don't
just tip your cap. I mean, it seems like everybody's
(34:53):
trying to find ways to ding them for this or
Dingham for that. Like at a time when not many
of these teams can win three in a row, you know,
for the they don't lose, like when the quarterback's healthy
the last two and a half seasons, like we can
count on one hand when they lose, you know what
I mean. And one of them was the Super Bowl,
(35:13):
barely by three points to Andy Reid. Like it just
it doesn't it doesn't really happen, right, It hasn't really
happened since the middle of the twenty twenty one season
when they kind of embraced option football and now they
don't even need to do that. Then it was like, well,
that's the script they've got to run in forty times.
Like now they've evolved far beyond that. And I do
think the defense is certainly capable of playing better and
(35:35):
the offense is capable of being more consistent, because right
now it's a big playoffense. It's not really drive after
drive after drive, right, it's like four drives where they're
going nowhere, and then one great drive, and then three
drives where you're like, what the hell's going on here?
And then one great drive. So they're still they're pretty
damn good. And you know what, they'll probably lose to
San Francisco this week because like they're probably due to lose,
(35:57):
and then people will be knocking them. And you know,
I still think they're going back to the super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Go back to the afced your neck of the woods,
the Baltimore Ravens. That game was not aesthetically pleasing. Yesterday
they get a w over the Chargers. Their defense shows
up without Joey Bosa, but go into it finally the
bye week, get a full week off. Man, what do
you tinker with now in terms of that offense for
Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
Well, look, it's the passing game. I mean it was
in fits and starts with Mark Andrews. Now without Mark Andrews,
we'll see. I mean Mark Andrews. You look at his
percentage of catches that go for touchdowns or first downs.
It's far and away the best of anybody who's played
with Lamar Jackson. Just his overall touchdowns. I mean thirty
(36:44):
three from Lamar Way more than anybody else. And this
was not a downfield passing game to begin with, right,
it's yack oriented. It's a flowery yards after the catch,
it's odell, you know, a five yard slant that maybe
he takes for another thirty thirty five yards, And now
you take away the one guy you had to defend
deep in the seam Andrews. It's a problem. I mean,
(37:08):
Lamar Jackson will third down yesterday was one of seven
for four yards passing, I mean not great. Lamar Jackson
on balls that travel eleven yards or more downfield yesterday
was one of six for twenty one yards. Not great.
You know, Nelson agilar is second on the team in
(37:29):
touchdowns catches with three, and I mean he's Nelson agole Ayres,
so you know Andrews had twice as many. So that's
where my concern is, Like, it's a really limited, yak oriented,
spread it around passing game. But if somebody wants to
just take away as a flowers, they probably can. And
I'm not sure who else is really beating you, Jay
(37:52):
to Go.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
You talked about falling short a little bit here with
when it comes to Bill Belichick right, and the fall
short again against the Giants on Sunday, got really conservative
down the stretch, was happy to put out a field
goal kicker who had missed one third of his kicks
all season. I mean, I get that there's an interest
in getting Belichick to be their head coach, but this
(38:14):
is not twenty thirteen. This is a Bill Belichick that
has pushed the Patriots into disrespect disrepair the last few years,
and he's lost his fastball at the very least. There's
really a lot of teams who are like, hey, we'll
trade for him, we want him to be our coach
next year.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Well that's the trade. Thing is a fallacy. He's gone
and they're going to let him go Like this is
not he's seventy two years old. I mean, like, but
there's not going to be a choice.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
Will there be? I mean, there's really going to be
that much interest in him after what people have seen
the last four years.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
I don't know about that much, but we'll look. I
think we're going to get eight openings or more. Will
two of them, you know, be happy to have an
audience with him and hear this out. And I mean,
have people talked themselves into things, you know, far crazier
and the greatest head coach of the salary cap era. Like, yeah,
they have, I mean Nathaniel Hacketts running an NFL offense
(39:06):
right now. So Billick going to be able to get
a job, yes, Like do these owners still, like, dude,
think of how many bobos Bill Belichick has gotten to
be head coaches.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
Think about that?
Speaker 3 (39:19):
Think of how many owners Bill Belichick has convinced people
like Joe Judge and Matt Patricia. Right, let's just start.
There have any business coaching an NFL football team. I
mean that stuff happened almost cussed like that. He's had that,
Like that's how they eat out of his hand. And
(39:41):
you're gonna tell me none of them will give him
eight to ten million dollars to coaches their team for
two or three years. And they're like, he'll convince them
that I'm going to do in the coaching ranks with
Tom Brady did in the quarterback right, Like, yeah, he's
going to be able to get a job. Is he
gonna be everybody's cup of tea? Like? Would it makes
sense for David Tepper? Like hell no, Like there's definitely
(40:04):
gonna be situations where it's not a match, but and
is he going to get the whole kitten kaboodle and
run everything and you know, decide who drives the team
bus and which hotel we stay in, and you know
what I mean, like what colors the walls are painted
and all that stuff. Maybe not, but I think he's
going to be able to continue coaching, and I think
(40:28):
it'll be one of those amicable we've agreed to parted way,
you know, to part ways kind of things. And he'll
be a free agent and he'll be able to negotiate
the situation.
Speaker 1 (40:38):
You can fall him on Twitter at Jason locking for
That is at Jason locking for It. Check him out
on Odyssey Washington Post as well. Jay has always buddy
appreciated man. We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
Fun, We've got it, guys, have a going Thank you, hey, Jason,
