the devil Booker. I know with the Phoenix Suns, he's
just a gunner. All he does is score and not
really I mean, he is a willing pass, he plays defense,
and it's all about who's with him on the floor.
And I think that while he had shown that, you know,
during some of the Sun's playoff runs when he was

with Chris Paul and DeAndre Aiden, and then lately with
you know, with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beale. It obviously
stands out a lot more because team USA he has
a lot more stars. They've been, you know, a lot
healthier and better than that hot mess that was the
Phoenix Suns. So I think it is very fitting that

of all night Stevin Booker rd the way because he's
been that guy of being the jack of all trades
role and adjusting to being in an avalana playing time.
He has started a lot, but it's not like his
number is always called. So yeah, barring any serious injury,
I think USA is going to get their fifth consecutive

gold medal.

Is it just simply the time of hey, guys, it's
actually time to win. Stop playing All Star like basketball
and just go play.

I think it's a little bit of that. And frankly,
I think it's a matter of, hey, they finally got
some more chemistry here. I mean, we did not see
the US play well and exhibition games because they hadn't
really played up until that point. And you might think, well,
they should be able to play. It's twelve you know,
Hall of Fame players, you just roll the ball out.

But I think it's about finding the right combinations and rotations.
And while I don't think Steve Kirk can necessarily make
am a mistake because you're choosing from again future Hall
of famers, it has been about finding the right floor spacers,
you know, defenders that can compliment the scorers. And that's
been a little bit of work in progress. I think,

you know, Steve's been ironing that out, as well as
Shoe EmpId and Jason Tatum showing some improvement when they
have gotten playing time.

Okay, so for the United States to lose to Serbia
a game that was closer than expected, you know when
they played in the first time around, what is Nikola
Jokic your statline need to look? It's like forty five,
thirty five and twenty five, Like, what what if they
lose this game, Yokich just steps would be one and
he gets to wearing oxygen mask.

Yeah, I think that. I think that Nikola Jokic is
going to have to have a forty game in two
fronts at least forty points and he plays at least
forty minutes. And you know what the THEBA game is,
It's forty minutes long. When you look at you know,
how the US played against Serbia, the last go round
when nikoley jokuch is on the floor, even though he

didn't shoot the ball particularly well, they're in the game.
When he was off the floor, the US just wiped
them off the map. And so for them to have
a fighting chance, Nikola jokicch can't afford to take a
single minute off. I don't think that's realistic by thinking fairness.
Even if he does play off forty minutes and he
does score forty points, the US can counter with so

many other options with Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry,
you go down the line, So it's going to be
pretty tough.

Kevin Durant now the all time leading score He got
to keep the game ball and he might be the
happiest I've seen him in his professional career.

I think even before he got the scoring record, I
think that he was the best USA Basketball player of

all time. I mean, carmelal Anthony is up there, but
keep in mind that carmelal Anthony was part of the
team in two thousand and four, that blond Bronze, and
I think when you're looking at Kevin Durant, you know,
he was a very significant focal point regardless of time
he played. In twenty twelve, it was mostly about Kobe Bryant,

but Kevin Durant still had a high scoring workload. Same
thing when twenty sixteen he was mostly the guy, and
then in twenty two, twenty twenty one, he was very
much the rare one a star that was willing to
play in the Olympics even with the compressed season with
the pandemic. So yeah, he has just been so instrumental

with team USA basketball. And I don't think that I'm
exaggerating this. Tyler told me this during you know, training
camp in Vegas. He said, I it wasn't for Kevin Durant,
they wouldn't have won gold in Tokyo. That game against
France was that close that they need every single point
for Kevin Durant to score.

All Right, Mark, I'm going to tell you something, agree
or disagree. Okay, the only way the United because this
is what I see. The only way the United States loses.
They play France in the final, and the officiating is
like nineteen seventy two United States Russia, which could actually happen.

I mean, that's one way they can lose. You know,
Lebron James and Kevin Durant could come up with something,
but you know they've been fully healthy. Bottom line is this.

and I don't think either of those things are happening.

I think in the history of USA basketball, you know,
there's always the danger of USA looking down on their
opponent and not taking their opponents serious enough. But these
guys know the drill. The game has grown a lot.
Every you know, major team internationally has some NBA talent,
so they're not going to let their guard down. So again,
barring an earthquake like just happened here or any other

Mother Nature event, USA is going to wear a gold
medal for the fifth consecutive time.

to either of these teams? And let's batten this down

the Patriots are no longer involved in the bidding for

what world would this make sense? I get the Patriots
want to put out there, Hey, we're at the bottom

players know, hey, you can come here. We go sign

a high profile guy like Ayuk in the offseason. He's
gonna tell people when they come up a free agency, Hey,
how is it in New England?

This this really on the way up. Drake is a

got a little bit something.

little bit longer to crawl out of a hole. It's

head coach. I want to think, okay, they can kind

of pick things up a little bit faster, but they
should be the favorites to pick number one overall next year.

You'll probably be taking a quarterback again next year because
if Drake May isn't great, if Drake May doesn't really
get guess what you're taking Shador Sanders or somebody else
number one, and you're spinning Drake May off to somebody,
I'd say, I.

Mean Patriots four and a half, as you said, Broncos
are at five and a half, as are the Panthers,
and then you get to the Titans Commanders both at
six and a half. Commanders are an interesting one if
you're looking at betting outs, but we're not doing that
here for the purposes of this exercise. You're nowhere near
being a contender, right, You're a distant fourth in the division.
Maybe you steal the game against the Dolphins or the Bills,

or maybe against your beloved Jets, but overall you're not
doing much offensively.

seem to care. I hate to be the guy to
say it, but I don't think the United States has
any problems right now coming into the semi finals.

No, they certainly don't. I mean, they respect their opponent.
They're playing really well defensively and offensively, they're sharing the ball.
I think it's fitting that Devin Booker, you know, was
the league scorer against Brazil with eighteen points, because before
training camp, I was there in Vegas and Steve Kerr
was saying that he's the perfect FIVA player, and there

might be some casual NBA fans that would, you know,
shake their head a little bit and they think, oh,
the devil Booker. I know with the Phoenix Suns, he's
just a gunner. All he does is score and not
really I mean, he is a willing pass, he plays defense,
and it's all about who's with him on the floor.
And I think that while he had shown that, you know,
during some of the Sun's playoff runs when he was

with Chris Paul and DeAndre Aiden, and then lately with
you know, with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beale. It obviously
stands out a lot more because team USA he has
a lot more stars. They've been, you know, a lot
healthier and better than that hot mess that was the
Phoenix Suns. So I think it is very fitting that

of all night Stevin Booker rd the way because he's
been that guy of being the jack of all trades
role and adjusting to being in an avalana playing time.
He has started a lot, but it's not like his
number is always called. So yeah, barring any serious injury,
I think USA is going to get their fifth consecutive
(22:49):
gold medal.

Is it just simply the time of hey, guys, it's
actually time to win. Stop playing All Star like basketball
and just go play.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
I think it's a little bit of that. And frankly,
I think it's a matter of, hey, they finally got
some more chemistry here. I mean, we did not see
the US play well and exhibition games because they hadn't
really played up until that point. And you might think, well,
they should be able to play. It's twelve you know,
Hall of Fame players, you just roll the ball out.

But I think it's about finding the right combinations and rotations.
And while I don't think Steve Kirk can necessarily make
am a mistake because you're choosing from again future Hall
of famers, it has been about finding the right floor spacers,
you know, defenders that can compliment the scorers. And that's
been a little bit of work in progress. I think,
(23:42):
you know, Steve's been ironing that out, as well as
Shoe EmpId and Jason Tatum showing some improvement when they
have gotten playing time.

Okay, so for the United States to lose to Serbia
a game that was closer than expected, you know when
they played in the first time around, what is Nikola
Jokic your statline need to look? It's like forty five,
thirty five and twenty five, Like, what what if they
lose this game, Yokich just steps would be one and
he gets to wearing oxygen mask.

Yeah, I think that. I think that Nikola Jokic is
going to have to have a forty game in two
fronts at least forty points and he plays at least
forty minutes. And you know what the THEBA game is,
It's forty minutes long. When you look at you know,
how the US played against Serbia, the last go round
when nikoley jokuch is on the floor, even though he

didn't shoot the ball particularly well, they're in the game.
When he was off the floor, the US just wiped
them off the map. And so for them to have
a fighting chance, Nikola jokicch can't afford to take a
single minute off. I don't think that's realistic by thinking fairness.
Even if he does play off forty minutes and he
does score forty points, the US can counter with so

many other options with Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry,
you go down the line, So it's going to be
pretty tough.

Kevin Durant now the all time leading score He got
to keep the game ball and he might be the
happiest I've seen him in his professional career.

Oh well, when you're on tm USA, you don't have
to worry about hopping from team to team. And when
you're on tm USA, everyone's a star, so it's not like, oh,

I think even before he got the scoring record, I
think that he was the best USA Basketball player of

all time. I mean, carmelal Anthony is up there, but
keep in mind that carmelal Anthony was part of the
team in two thousand and four, that blond Bronze, and
I think when you're looking at Kevin Durant, you know,
he was a very significant focal point regardless of time
he played. In twenty twelve, it was mostly about Kobe Bryant,

but Kevin Durant still had a high scoring workload. Same
thing when twenty sixteen he was mostly the guy, and
then in twenty two, twenty twenty one, he was very
much the rare one a star that was willing to
play in the Olympics even with the compressed season with
the pandemic. So yeah, he has just been so instrumental

with team USA basketball. And I don't think that I'm
exaggerating this. Tyler told me this during you know, training
camp in Vegas. He said, I it wasn't for Kevin Durant,
they wouldn't have won gold in Tokyo. That game against
France was that close that they need every single point
for Kevin Durant to score.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
All Right, Mark, I'm going to tell you something, agree
or disagree. Okay, the only way the United because this
is what I see. The only way the United States loses.
They play France in the final, and the officiating is
like nineteen seventy two United States Russia, which could actually happen.

But I mean that's the only way I see them losing.

I mean, that's one way they can lose. You know,
Lebron James and Kevin Durant could come up with something,
but you know they've been fully healthy. Bottom line is this.

and I don't think either of those things are happening.

I think in the history of USA basketball, you know,
there's always the danger of USA looking down on their
opponent and not taking their opponents serious enough. But these
guys know the drill. The game has grown a lot.
Every you know, major team internationally has some NBA talent,
so they're not going to let their guard down. So again,
barring an earthquake like just happened here or any other

Mother Nature event, USA is going to wear a gold
medal for the fifth consecutive time.

first broke the story, many other outlets picked it up.
The forty nine ers had a trade worked out with
both the Browns and the Patriots. Four star wide receiver
Brandon ayukho has wanted out for a while. He wants
a new contract. You know the story. Uh, it was
(31:00):
going to be up to Ayuk to decide where he
wants to go. Would he be okay with a trade
to either of these teams? And let's batten this down
and make this trade happen.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
That was last night. However, a couple hours ago.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
As we've talked about on the show, ESPN's Adam Schefter said,
the Patriots are no longer involved in the bidding for
Brandon Ayuk.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Do you think it was because they listened to the show?
Maybe we really didn't.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
Lay out a very long expository piece of why we
get a bad idea for all involved?
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Wait a minute, listen to these guys make a whole
lot of sense.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
And the last part of Adam Schefter's tweet, the Patriots
like their young wide receivers. Yeah, I always I always
know the part when he's doing pr for a team. Now,
it's pretty easy, Hey, Adam, we're gonna give you this scoop.
We're not in it, but you say we like our
young wide receivers. That's the trade off. Okay, fine, Instead
of esquima eesq, it says comma chill.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Okay, fine, fine, I'll do it.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Look, no matter whether this was Brandon Ayuk saying I
don't want to go there, or the Patriots saying, you know,
it's a little too much, little too risky for us,
we don't want the deal, this was the right outcome
for the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Yeah, you're not a Brandon Ayuk away from really doing anything.
Auk's gonna be twenty six. You're gonna have to give
him a new contract. You can't let him go. It's
gonna be thirty million dollars a year. By the time
you are ready to win, Brandona a Yuka is gonna
be twenty nine looking for a new deal somewhere else.
You are completely starting over, new head coach, new quarterback.
You have no idea when Drake May, if Drake May
(32:35):
a sense of the starting job because he's not been great.
Maybe Joe Milton is ahead of him. Jacoby Brissett's ahead
of both of them. You are completely starting over. In
what world would this make sense? I get the Patriots
want to put out there, Hey, we're at the bottom
of the barrel. We want to make sure that that
players know, hey, you can come here. We go sign

a high profile guy like Ayuk in the offseason. He's
gonna tell people when they come up a free agency, Hey,
how is it in New England?
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Oh, it's great. You love coach Mayo. It's awesome.
Speaker 5 (33:05):
We do this.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
This this really on the way up. Drake is a
really good quarterback. Okay, I'll visit New England. That's the
only reason you would really want to do that. But
that's not worth thirty million dollars a year for the
next three years. Where you're at. If you were even closer,
if you were a little bit closer, I would say,
if you were the Giants, I would say, Okay, you
got a little bit something.

Maybe you could do it.

Teaming with neighbors. Yeah, but this is not the solution
for him. So it's actually great that they wound up
backing out of this because this was not This would
not have been a great signing. This is not something
that paid should look at because it doesn't fit in
with everything else they have going on with the team.
There's other players you can get, and sometimes takes a
little bit longer to crawl out of a hole. It's

okay you won eleven super Bowls in the last fifteen years.
It's fine if you have a few years where you
stink for a while, It's okay.

You look at your depth chart as it stands right now.

Kendrick Bourne would have been going back uh to in
that deal if consummated to Mario Douglas, Jalen Rieger, Jellen Poke, Javon.

You didn't say all right, Jellin Okay, I just want
to make sure he didn't try to speak that wording again.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper are your tight ends. And

Love up in the clowns above to give the fly.
All right, we'll do that one for karaoke night. That's great.
But in the you're over under for wins is four
and a half. Does he give you a half a win?

Does that move you to five? It's it's not doing anything.

It's not going to surprise me.

This is how bad the Patriots are and how much
you're starting over if they picked third this year, if
they're picking first next year in the draft. In fact,
they should be the favorites to pick first overall in
the draft. They do not have a lot of talent.
You have no idea what's going on with their quarterback,
you know, idea what's going to be like for their
head coach. I want to think, okay, they can kind
(35:05):
of pick things up a little bit faster, but they
should be the favorites to pick number one overall next year.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
You're not going on spending money on Brandon Ayuquinn.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
You'll probably be taking a quarterback again next year because
if Drake May isn't great, if Drake May doesn't really
get guess what you're taking Shador Sanders or somebody else
number one, and you're spinning Drake May off to somebody,
I'd say, I.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
Mean Patriots four and a half, as you said, Broncos
are at five and a half, as are the Panthers,
and then you get to the Titans Commanders both at
six and a half. Commanders are an interesting one if
you're looking at betting outs, but we're not doing that
here for the purposes of this exercise. You're nowhere near
being a contender, right, You're a distant fourth in the division.
Maybe you steal the game against the Dolphins or the Bills,
(35:49):
or maybe against your beloved Jets, but overall you're not
doing much offensively.
Speaker 5 (35:54):

You might might win a few games because your defense
is good enough. Again, assuming you come to piece and
break bread with judea On and keep him around that
maybe you're you're good enough to keep in games, but
you're not scoring with any any great proficiency.

Here he does even with this money, does he get
