This is the best of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Well.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Bit of an emotional last few minutes here on the show,
I was gonna say we got to bring it back
to Levin Entertainment. Oh sadness, and you know people throwing
fly hours on the ground. Dusty up in here.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yeah. Farewell to Chris Brossard after a six year run
with Rob Parker on the Odd Couple. Yeah, well yeah,
well I mean come on, I mean really, I mean,
you know it's it's it's just listen, listen. It was uh,
I'd be looking.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
It was.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
It was great to you know, it was great to
be teammates with Chris. We still kind of r him
with him at FS one.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Ain't going anywhere, so I just texted him or actually
I tweeted it out at you know, E's the Hotel California. Man,
you checked out, you ain't gone Sedar and basketball season
brother and look.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
And and not and not for anything else other than
you think about this. Look, it's a big change for us.
You know, Odd Couple has been a great show for songs,
going to continue to be a great show with Kelvin
Washington coming in with Rob Parker. You know, Chris is
a phenomenal talent and he's been so good for so long.
But I like to think one of the reasons why
and this is this is this is something we've had

(01:53):
conversations about, like why is Fox Sports Radio, Why is
our programming doing well?

Speaker 3 (01:58):
And why is it doing so well?

Speaker 1 (01:59):
And why are we the pre eminent national presence in
in radio. And it's a couple of things. And I
think the first the first thing is that we don't
make a lot of changes.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Knockwood.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Uh, you know, there's not changes like and I can't
believe some of the change change change, change change. Like me,
if I was managing the Mets and a guy would
throw three balls out of the bullpen, you're out.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Someone else is coming in.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Dude, you got to win today. But yeah, but Lindor
got hurt and so, you know, but we'll get to that.
You know, it's don't we don't have a lot of changes.
You keep, you know, you keep programming for a while
and and and and people find you and they find
your shows, and you know, there's something to be said
for I think if you tune in to our show,
you know, you leave it on the dial, and you
tune into the Odd Couple, you'll like what they have

(02:40):
to say. If you like what the Odd Couple has
to say, you tune into Doug Gottlieb. But like with
Doug gottliebst saying you know, Doug and I have had
conversations about this before. If you listen to Colin, you'll
like Dan. If you like Dan, you'll listen to Ben Mallor.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
If you like, you know. I mean it's I think
there's such.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
A a sort of a it's such a a symbia,
not a symbi out of relationship, but just out the
personalities that you like. It's not like, hey, some people
come out of nowhere and it's I don't know if
I like this.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
I don't know if I like this.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
But you know, I think there's a lot of I
don't want to say togetherness or symbiosis. Now I'm getting
into venom, but I think that's a I think that's
a big Jerry. Let me just eat Tch Prescott's head. Uh,
But there is there is a bit of that. There
is a bit of that, uh A relationship wise between
the shows where if you like some of the shows
you listen to, if you try the other ones, you'll

(03:30):
like them too. And look like I said, if you
if you like us, like Broussard, you like Rob, you
like that. I think that's a big thing for us here.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Oh, everybody coming from a different angle to pros right
with with Brady Jonas and LeVar right, You're getting all
sorts of different perspectives, different ages and ranges and pop
culture references. Everything comes through, uh and you play and
you can spray hits all all over the field to
steal the baseball metaphor to it. Uh. And there's always

(03:56):
going to be something to make you think, something that's
gonna make you wanna maybe throw something at your radio,
maybe go full Elvis and shoot it every once in
a while. One of us says, first of all, it
was a television. Secondly, whoa I change out radio? And
the purpose of an analogy, where am I going to
get another radio? I just shot my Well, then you

(04:16):
can pull it up on the iHeartRadio app on your
on your mobile device. I'm gonna I'm gonna shoot my
phone right now. That's what's happening here. Well, you know,
skeet shooting whatever you need to do. But the point
just being that shows are allowed to grow and gest
date and maybe if festers in the back of your head,
you don't want to you know, hear Jason, you know,
tell you how much Aaron Rodgers is going to exalt

(04:39):
and take the Jets to the highest level. So you
shout at him or me trying to calm him down.
Maybe I go too far, or go on down to
Rob Chris, go go through all of it. It's it's
a fun back and forth. We kid each other and
we have fun with it. And the support staff is
fantastic right from the ed into the production of everything.

(05:02):
So yeah, it's it's a bit. It's an emotional day.
I think we're all taken aback. I mean you you
even did your Chris Brusard impression to him on the
way out. I like, I don't love him, but I
like it. Look the Warriors, Look, Steph, Stephan, Clay is
all right. Look, look, look look Clay's out there. Look Look, no,
Clay's gone Claig. Look, I love I lot. Look I

(05:24):
like what the Knicks have done. Let me say, I
like what the Knicks. Maybe I'll continue on with my
Chris Busard, like I said, I mean, he's not to anywhere.
He'll be back. I promise you you'll hear his voice
on the network again.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Meanwhile, as we get set for Week two of college football,
Week two of the NFL, we got a couple of
close ones happening right now. A bit of a shocker.
I think I ever expected Arizona to have a thousand
points right now, but they're getting thumped by Kansas State
for twenty one to seven right now, midway through the
third quarter. It's all Kansas night here. Apparently we have Kansas,
we have Kansas State.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
It's like carry on my Wayward Sun just decided to
get rid of them on a Friday night.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Let's put all again, let's put the let's put America's
heartland on Friday night.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
All Kansas all. That's very wholesome that way. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Interviews with Danny Manning. Sure bring it all up. Yeah
you go, yeah, yeah, I got questions for Danny man.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Point of no return.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Sure, sure, sure, all all songs by Kansas tonight. I'm
out after those two though, Oh no, no, well and
Dustin the Way, well, you gotta get justin I'm out
at least once or twice.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
I'm out after that. Odds are we'll make some predictions
that'll that'll surely miss fire. So you can say you're
sorry to those and uh, you know, play dust in
the Wind shows.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Hell, we can play it. I mean there, there you go.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
We just did our tribute to Bruce Sard. You can
have that too.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Meanwhile, so as you said, we'll have more in college
football coming up. Pete Feugh Tech's gonna join us later
on in the show. Two big stories in the NFL,
both involving the dreaded injured list, not really a surprise,
but potentially Christian McCaffrey gonna go on the i L
for the forty nine ers. He has been ruled out
of their game Sunday against Sam Darnold and the Vikings,

(07:01):
so it's gonna be another another day as well, as
long as he doesn't say anything he's not supposed to
and and and potentially get San Francisco in trouble. Forty
Mason will be getting the run again at running back.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Yeah, it might get him fined, It might get the
forty nine ers, fine, maybe they lose a draft pick
or something like that if he really goes too far.
But I mean, the forty nine ers did everybody a
favor by saying, hey, he's not playing this week.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Yeah, here's your mate. Yeah no, yeah no, Look and
look here's the thing. First one, they're fine without him.
And that's hard for me to hard to hear because
wait a minute, he's the best running back in the NFL. Yeah,
this is but this and this is also what happens
when your roster is so loaded. Okay, you have the
best roster in the NFL. This is why you went
out and gave Brandon i Yuked that money. It's why

(07:46):
you gave Trent Williams money. You got six guys or
eight guys making more than fifteen million a year. It's
not gonna happen next year, but you have it for
this year. So you're okay without Christian McCaffrey for a
few weeks at the beginning of September, when you are
the most talented roster in the entire league, you're gonna
be okay. It sucks that he's out. Obviously you want
him back because he's such a great player. But trust me,

(08:08):
the forty nine ers are absolutely fine without him.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
But you're looking at your board and you're just saying,
all right, do we get enough wins that were in
the tournament in January. That's all that matters. What's Christian
McCaffrey's health in January. It's not a matter of the
second week of September. I'm sorry to all Fantasy owners
who drafted him number one overall because that's where he
should have been. You can be mad about it now,
but you made the pick otherwise because if you're looking

(08:32):
at the receivers you would have drafted. You tell me
you drafted those same guys too, No, you're not so.
For McCaffrey, yeah, get it right, Whether it takes two weeks,
four weeks, six weeks, whatever, you've got your offensive line
in play. So long as Trent Williams is upright, I
think that's what we've determined in all of this. So
long as he's there and in person, you watched him

(08:53):
push around what's supposed to be a really good and
fearsome Jets front last week. So long as he's healthy,
they're gonna make Hay because they're not looking for anybody
to go superstar numbers, right, spread the ball around. As
much as it pains people to hear that, right, it's
not about, hey, you got to go put up three
forty and four brock Purty. It's no. You can kick

(09:16):
the field, goals, play defense, run the ball effectively, get
the win and move on. And for Christian McCaffrey, just
come back healthy. If it takes six weeks. It takes
six weeks.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Now, Hollywood Brown, oh boy, who now needs surgery and
his season with the Chiefs is at risk. He is
going to miss quote months of action. Andy Reid saying Friday,
it's not gonna be weeks, more like months.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Now.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
This is where I like to say we're ahead of
the curve, okay, because this is what's coming. As I've said,
the Chiefs have shown that look big, we can win
no matter who our wide receivers are. Okay, I could
be I could be throwing the ball to Dwayne Bow
and I mean, like the last couple of years Dwayne
both were really bad. Or it could be throwing the
football to Xavier Worthy and it doesn't matter. We still
find a way to win. But this is where when

(10:07):
I say ahead of the curve, the Chiefs are not
the same team we have now a last year and
now into this year a beginning of Okay, offensively, they're
not what they were. Patrick Mahomes hasn't been an all
world quarterback in a year plus now because last year
he was good enough, right, good enough to win the
Super Bowl obviously, because Chiefs had a great defense, and

(10:30):
they're still scoring enough offensively. But they're not the roll
it up Chiefs team that they were the first four
or five years in the league. They're just not. They're
not that scary. Oh my goodness, they're gonna hang forty
on us every single week. They're not that team they
were signing Hollywood Brown. They're gonna try to continue to
jump start the offense. They draft Xavier Worthy where Shei
Rice is hoping to take that big step this year

(10:52):
after he had a really good rookie year. But this
is not the same team. Travis Kelcey is slowing down.
He is not the same guy. You've seen the result
Patrick Mahomes's numbers. All it's going to take. All it's
going to take is one team to put a blueprint
game together that shuts down the Chiefs in a thirty

(11:14):
one thirteen type win, and all of a sudden, teams
are gonna go that's how you do it, and the
l's are gonna start coming for Kansas City all at that.
We need that one team to come in and say, Okay, no,
not that we're not afraid of the Chiefs, but we
know how to stop them. We're not gonna we're not
gonna cower back. We're gonna play aggressively. We're gonna do X,
Y and Z. And there's going to be a game

(11:34):
plan that some team is gonna come up with, both
defensively and offensively. To say this is how you do it,
and it's gonna be all at once, right, because that
happens many times in the NFL where you see a
team is rolling, rolling, rolling, then they hit a speed
bump as well, all of a sudden, now we're losing. Well,
guess what everybody saw. Oh, this is how you do it.
You pressure from the edges, whatever, whatever it is, whatever
the game plan is, one team's gonna come up with it.

(11:57):
They're gonna thump the Chiefs and you're gonna think it's
a speed bump in the road. But every other team,
copycat league is gonna say that's how you do it.
And if teams have that personnel, guess what, they're gonna
be able to make sure that doesn't happen. Right, Like,
what was it a couple of years ago when when
Tampa beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl and Tom
Brady wins, Right, this was, Hey, how did the Chiefs

(12:18):
guess that? Well, we told you the Chiefs, that version
of the Chiefs. If you can get pressure with your
four down line, now you can get there and that
way you you can cover Tyreek Hill, you can cover
all the guys.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
But you know that was also the trash bag offensive line.
What I'm saying is that that was the blueprint then,
was if you can do this, you can stop them,
because then you can leave everybody back and coverage and
Tyreek Kill's not running running a muck in the secondary.
And what happened.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
You got to the Super Bowl and that Tampa Bay
defense could get pressure without blitzing, and it was just
an awful day at the office for Kansas City in
the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Well look at last night, everybody, you know, coming into
the year, how do you stop the speed and excitement
of the Miami offense. And we'll get into Tua's injury
as we get on in the show, and we talked
about it lot last night. But what happened before he
got hurt, all you did was push their offensive line
around and Tyreek Hill and Jalen Wattell had no space
to operate and take advantage of this one on one matchup.

(13:15):
So for the Chiefs going back to them, right, their
defense is years ahead of where they were once. Right,
So obviously helped there, and so long as fifteen is
still mobile, and that's the thing. Eventually he slows down
and it starts to grind a little bit there. But
until that point, I mean, who's that guy? Is it

(13:35):
lou Anarumo? Is that the guy that's supposed to do
it this week? I think he's got to worry whether
his offense is up to the task against the Chiefs, right,
and whether they can stay on the field long enough
to keep Patrick Mahomes off it. But eventually, good things
come to an end, right you were doing your brusard

(13:55):
and talking about the Warriors. Well, eventually things bogged down.
Whether you don't have have that second line of players
right coming off the bench, there's a decided drop off
or whatever the case may be. But so long as
Andy Reid and to a lesser, much lesser extent, Matt
and Aggie and Patrick Mahomes are there, I'd love to

(14:18):
see a team come up with the blueprint to slow
it down. It'll come at some times. Right now, most
of their playing point are not scripted plays, because that's
that's the biggest thing. Right. You're not stopping necessarily a
system here, You're stopping areas of what Mahomes does, right,
Just look at his work with Travis Kelce. Most of
that is not Hey, Travis, who's supposed to run an
eight yard round this. I know you're gonna be here.

(14:41):
You're gonna get into a space. Now you're slow. But
they can but they and they can't out talent you
like they used to. They can't.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
They just can't out talent you. And that's when you
can come up with a game plan. But there's still
a little bit of all the big bad chiefs that
when the Super Bowl they're rolling through.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
No, this is not the same as the problem though
the AFC. I'm looking at the AFC, going, who's that team?
I don't see them. Just wait out here. In twenty
twenty four, someone is there.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Someone is there with a defensive game plan and it's
Jim Harbin on it. Oh, of course, it's just because
he is working feverishly.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Well, he's not wearing just same style shoes as Justin
Herbert because he wants to walk a mile in that
guy's shoes. Yeah, because he's everything he wants in a
football player ad more, except he doesn't let him throw
the ball. But that's okay.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
Exit out about a fresco exit swalling down The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon Lve from the tirerac dot
Com Studios. Just wait, someone's coming up with that game
plan because the Chiefs just ain't quite the Chiefs. Coming
up next, we'll.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Start previewing the big weekend in the NFL College football.
Give you our big upset specials, but we'll tell you
why a certain big hot take has been running rampant
the last twenty four hours since two at Tongue of
I lows injury retire. That's next right here, Jason and
Mike Fox Sports Radio. Managing staff for your supply chain

(15:57):
is complex. Let Express Employment Profestionals provide the workforce you need.
With Express you can lower contingent labor costs and reduce turnover.
Go to expresspros dot com to find the location near you.
That's Expresspros dot Com. Now I want to go Ben
Supernatural all the way through till the end. Never watched it.
You'll hear this song a lot, then I won't watch lot.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 4 (16:29):
Hey gang List is Jay Glazer, host of Unbreakable, a
mental wealth podcast, and every week we will have on
leaders from sports entertainment like Sean McVay, Lindsay Vaughn, Michael Phelf,
David Spade, got Fiemi, and also those who can help
us in between the ears, anyone from a therapist to
someone like Ed Milett for John Gordon. We've all been

(16:51):
through some sort of adversity to get to the top.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
We've all used different tools.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
Listen to Unbreakable with Jay Glazer and Mental Wealth podcast
on ther radio app, Apple podcasts or wherever you get podcasts.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live Fromthtirack dot com Studios. College football, boy,
hope you enjoyed the Arizona run.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
Who well, you bad boy.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
They are getting thumped by Kansas State right now, late
in the third quarter, now twenty eight to seven. Look,
the All Kansas night is half over. UNLV beats Kansas
twenty three to twenty, so that game end. But now
this game between two top twenty five teams. The boy
Arizona looked like, hey, maybe we could be that dark horse.
Playoff tache de part We got a great quarterback, a

(17:42):
great receiver. All they do is throw to each other.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Boys. But now they're just getting thumped by Kansas State. Yeah,
twenty eight to seven. As we get into the end
of the third time of possession, about even the Wildcats,
Kansas State winning the turnover battle one one nil. But
here's penalties for Arizona seventy four yards. So all the positivity,
big plays, they just had a drive that stalled out

(18:07):
again in case State comes right back and puts another
seven on the board. So also running all over them,
one hundred and seventy six rushing yards to just forty
three for Arizona. So playing a bit of bully ball
along the way at home. So we'll have more college
football on the way.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
We'll check in with Pete fu Tech following this game,
although I mean, I guess twenty eight to seven, the
game is probably over there.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
Let me go now, hey Pete.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
But let's get to the day after. For two, a
tongue of Iloa leaving last night's game with a concussion
at least the third of his career, probably the fourth,
maybe the fourth, depending on on what you're counting. Also,
remember the first one was never counted as that concussion diagnosed,
it's not. And this is what we know. From twenty
two to forward.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
We're not. Nobody's doing the the back math and looking
at old tape either.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
So now there's two. There's two big things to take
aways from this one. I can tell you why the
overwhelming Tuus should retire conversations are coming up right now.
But first, with all the calls to retire we saw,
we heard last night r G three other players, former
players are saying, oh, tu should retire, two I should retire.

(19:18):
And then today Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce said, Hey,
if I was to a tongue of iloa, I'd retire.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
It's not worth it. It's not worth to play the game.
I witness to anything like I've seen that's happened to
him three times. Scary. You can see right away the
players faces on the field to a help. I just
say it. At some point you know he's don live
and play football, take care of your family.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
Okay, now let's now this plays into both big takeaways
for this. The first one is okay, everybody, relax, Okay,
rely good b R E l A X. Listen to
that Ballero music that Aaron Rodgers said the other day.
Hy and this is what this is what the NFL
seasons like. It's a balero R E L A X

(20:06):
with this retire now, retire now, don't worry about it.
To a tongue of Iiloa is gonna take some time.
He's gonna go through everything. He's gonna he's gonna he's
gonna find out, Hey, how susceptible am I to more concussions?
Can I protect myself better?

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Am I? How?

Speaker 1 (20:23):
How much damage could I be doing to myself by playing?
He's gonna ask all those questions. He's gonna get examined
by neurologists. He's gonna go through it. But all of
a sudden, the retire, retire right away, retire. Yeah, maybe
eventually that is the call for him. It might not be,
but it might be. But this is something that hey,
too's gonna do that. This is his life. It's not
it's it's not anybody else's. And I have no doubt

(20:45):
that he's not just gonna be Hey, I'm finally bounced
back here. Okay, we kind of understand. And there's gonna
be doctors and they're gonna look at things and they're
gonna try to see that. Okay, this is what it is.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
If you keep playing, if you don't keep playing and
he will make a very informed decision, right, No need
to rush to their tied And again it may wind
up being retire, but he's gonna make that call. He will.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
He will make that decision at some point after thinking
about it and going through a lot of things and
talking to his family.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Yeah. The biggest thing I understand the look the microphone
gets turned on. You get called for an interview. Right,
you have something scheduled this morning on any of the
morning shows or whatever your book to do. You're gonna
do a podcast, and it's the story you have to
talk about. So you've got to have an opinion. And
what's the thing that kind of shakes up the earth?

(21:30):
He retires, Right. We have a few guys that have
done that and walked away.

Speaker 6 (21:35):
Right.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Andrew Luck, famously getting beat up, finally just says, look,
I'm done. I'm gonna go off and live my life.
Captain Andrew Luck, take the retire and you know, put
the retirement note up on that Twitter account and go through.
And we've had a couple of other players walk away
from myriad injuries and issues and decide I've had enough.
Here's the thing. It's their decision. Okay, until a doctor

(21:59):
refuse to sign a form to clear them, then it's
a whole other discussion. All Right, he's too injured, he
cannot play anymore. But until then, with the counsel of
his family, with Mike McDaniel, who obviously cares about the
individual as much or more as you've ever seen a
guy with the player right, came over, hugged him, you know,
gave him the kiss on the forehead, all of those things.

(22:22):
That and his teammates one by one, you know, wishing
him well as he was coming off the field yesterday.
It's like you see the respect, you see the mutual
respect Josh Allen in his comments, everybody's got an outpouring
of love and wants the best for him. But ultimately
it's his decision and it'll come when the time is right.
There's no way he's trying to rush himself back on

(22:43):
the field. We talked about it with with McCaffrey and well,
the Hollywood Brown injuries. Another thing that went from being hey,
he's going to miss a week or two to now
it's surgery and he's done for the year. But with McCaffrey,
like there's a longer season ahead and a longer career ahead,
so there's no need to make a decision right now
that may be foolhardy, impetuous, whatever. And again you'll meet

(23:06):
with team of doctors. Now we know in the history
of the NFL you could meet with a bunch of doctors.
Eventually someone's gonna tell you what you want to hear.
And that's, you know, always the scary, the good part
and the scary part. Right if you're really wanting to
do something. But it's not that he's rushing in and
I know everybody want you know, was pushed for a
comment and you say, well I would do this, Well,

(23:29):
that ain't you right now? Yeah, And you could say
that you don't know if suddenly your face with that
and your football mort and everything you've known and everything
you've done is suddenly gonna be taken away. Are you
telling me you're necessarily coming to that same decision. I
don't know that you are.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
This is why I'm here, because I'm here to tell
you exactly why the retire to or retire stuff is
coming up the last twenty four hours. I'll tell you
exactly why, and you're gonna go, oh, yes, that makes
all the sense in the world's humanity. Look does everybody
care about Of course they do, right, of course, everyody
wants to see him go. He's a good guy, he's
a good dude. He tries to do a lot of

(24:05):
great things, and he's very talented. Everybody loves seeing him play.
He's a great role model. Everybody wants to see him play,
and everybody wants to look out for him. So I
get that they're coming from that place. Question, but who
has been saying retire? Who's been saying it? Has been
loud mouths like us on the radio going retire. I
would just retire. No, what's it been the last twenty

(24:26):
four hours? Players, a lot of players, former players all
saying retire?

Speaker 3 (24:33):
Why?

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Why are they doing it? No matter what you do
in the NFL, no matter how long you play, you
know you're gonna leave with some sort of Hey, look,
I can't move my arm like I used to. Certain
things like that. It's the trade off of what you have.
But there is such a push from the players for
fake safety protocols. They're mad at the NFL because they

(24:55):
don't do the right things for the turf. They don't
do the right things for concussions, don't do right things
for a lot they a lot of players feel this
is fake player safety, and this is a way to
call out the NFL for fake player safety. Here's another
concussion this guy got, I'd retire and he has no
choice but to retire because the NFL can't take care
of their players. And I can't say I disagree with

(25:16):
that because they definitely have a huge leg to stands.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
Let's just go back to opening week. Why are we
playing that game on a soccer field where everybodys slipping
and sliding and falling and Jordan Love gets hurt? Right, Hey,
player safety, NFL, let's do something. But that's why this
is coming from. This is coming from that place of
the NFL is such bleepin fake player safety and that now, hey,
you know what, Tuas should retire. They can't keep him safe.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
So it's a it's kind of a way to say, hey,
look at this, what you're responsible for, NFL coming towards
this by not being able to really do the right
things for player safety. And this stems all the way
back from players who had to sue the NFL to
get benefits, to get money because they couldn't walk, they
couldn't do so it's a big thing coming. But I
don't think there's any there's any coincidence that you're hearing

(25:59):
it from players and former players who are the ones
that are saying retire because they know what it's going
to be like medically. They don't like the NFL and
the fake player safety that they go through with a lot.
So this is their way of bringing that up by
justin Now, look look at Tua. Now, the guy's got
to retire. So that's why this has come up the
way it was because it's not been dumping you guys
on the TV. It's on the radio, people on TV.

(26:19):
It's all players and former players.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Yeah, let me add an extra branch to your argument there.
So to extend it would be perhaps also some guilt,
and let's get them of. I had an injury, but
because of x y Z, I kept playing, and in hindsight,
maybe I wouldn't have. And with Tua having met.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
The doctors told me I could play and I forced well,
part of it doctors, but part of it, Hey, there's
the next guy up.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
I don't want to lose my job. I have two
more years and then I get this level of you know,
benefits because I get this many more reps in the league,
all of those things, but also to say, all right,
it got paid and for injury and all that stuff.
You know, we've seen the reports of how much money
and how the contracts work and everything in terms of

(27:10):
guarantees for injury, et cetera. That he can take his
cash and have his multi generational wealth and have left
everything on the field, whereas a lot of them, a
lot of players, and again it's it's all theorizing and speculation.
Is that you know what, with the number of injuries

(27:31):
I had, if I could have, I would, right. Mark
Schalrath was on FS one this morning and he was like, look,
I had twenty nine surgeries, and I do every damn
bit of it again because it, you know, defined who
I was, who I am. Yes, I wish I'd been
better to my family and considered their feelings to it,
but it's who I was and how I approached the game.

(27:51):
And so you've got that army of ex players as well,
just saying look until they rip the jersey off you,
that you keep trying to play as best you can
and somewhere in between is where the sweet spot and
it all is. But yeah, to your point about players
rising up. Yeah, I mean there have been so many
myriad issues in terms of what the CBA battles have

(28:15):
been that they never actually get to the root of
the problem because there's always the easy out, because you know,
the union is so fractured, and we've talked about this forever, right,
You've got the high ranking guys that are making sixty
million dollars a year and then more than half of
your roster is barely above the league minimum and get
churned out, which is why we have that really long

(28:35):
tail of average service time for an NFL player, which
means they've all got very different considerations when it comes
to votes and battling in these cbas and so instead
of getting anything substantive, it becomes a way we got
an extra day off in the middle of the summer.
That's great as opposed to field conditions and all those
other things where you can really maybe make some hay

(28:58):
towards substantive player safety, longevity and continuity.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
Make no mistake, there's a reason why this is all
players and former players who are saying, hey, retire, it's
all about NFL player safety. What they went through, what
they see other players going through. They want to call
it out and then want to kind of warn. They
want to do a lot of different things here. There's
a reason why it's there. Time now to find out
what's trending in the wide world of sports. With special delivery,

(29:27):
Steve to Seger, Who's going to kick things off with
an update on the health of Francisco Lindor, who left
the game tonight after not sliding into second base.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
Slide into second base, Lindor, He's sliding again, slide back up,
slide in.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
He doesn't go seventh thing. He doubles in a seven
to nothing game. He goes into second base awkwardly leaves
the game with lower back tightness.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
Slide Lindor. So there is a theme here, all right, Steve?
So how is he boo? He left with a sore
bad Why where's your updates? What do you want to know?

Speaker 6 (29:58):
I'm not playing tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
I'm not playing.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
I want you to call David. You not called David
Stearns and ask him what's going on? Ye get Morosi
on the phone.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
Ah, I tried. You think I haven't tried to get
Morosi yet? Again? This is the Sacre's job. Hey, wait a.

Speaker 6 (30:10):
Minute about the positivity of the Mets hitting three three
run homers in this.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
It was a big night. It was a big night.

Speaker 6 (30:16):
Pete Alonzo a thirty second home run of the season
as well. The Mets won at Philadelphia eleven to three,
Jose Kintana over Aaron Nola Kintana seven scoreless innings. Brave
still one game behind the Mets for the final NL
wild Card. Atlanta beat the Dodgers six to two. Atlanta's
record up to eighty and sixty seven. The Dodger losing
pitcher tonight Land and Knack. He lasted two innings, trailed

(30:38):
five nothing, sixty four pitches in two innings. And the
news today from La that pitcher Tyler Glass, now with
the bad elbow, was scratched from his simulated game.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
He was like about to go and pitch, and they
I think in the bullpen he felt something and they
shut him down.

Speaker 6 (30:53):
So I don't know if we're going to be seeing
him in the regular season.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
Let's just say that out loud. The Dodgers currently has.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
And any coincidence that today Dave Roberts said, Hey, you know,
oh Tani could pitch in the playoffs. That's some chances
at zero that he puts in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Not a zero chance that he's gonna pitch in the playoffs. Okay.

Speaker 6 (31:12):
Dodgers currently have seven starting pitchers on the injured list.
The Yankees, Aaron Judge hit a grand Slam in the
seventh for the lead. It was home run number fifty two.
Yanks beat the rival Red Sox five to four, one
hundred and thirty RBIs for the Yanks Judge this year.
The Yankees are first in the Al East, now three
games ahead of the Orioles, only a couple weeks left

(31:32):
in the regular season. Playoffs start October first. Baltimore loss
won nothing at Detroit, giving up a first inning home run.
The O's offense one for twenty eight, thirteen strikeouts, one walk.
In fact, Detroit was pitching a perfect game through seven innings.
Gunner Henderson broke up a combined no hit bid with
two outs in the top of the ninth with a triple.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
Didn't they use like eleven pitchers to get there? No,
it was like four.

Speaker 6 (31:56):
I was like four, okay, all right, it was a
lot September. He hadn't heard of any of them. It's
no excuse for Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
I mean the one pitcher gave him six good innings
and you know, yeah the least walk, right, so we
had the opener. Opener got him at fifteen.

Speaker 6 (32:10):
Pitches and then sure the next guy for about six
Oakland beat the White Sox in Chicago Tonona thing. The
White Sox record now thirty three and one fifteen. The
White Sox still trailed the division by fifty one games.
We have brought it up before. The record is finishing
sixty one games out in the Divisional era Baltimore twenty eighteen.

(32:30):
You see, Cleveland lost at home tonight three to one
to Tampa Bay. Kansas City got an eighty three win
at Pittsburgh. The Cubs are tied five to five at
the Rockies in the bottom of the eighth, Houston winning
four to two at the Angels top of the fourth,
But the Mariners are getting shot at at home by
Jacob de Gram and the Rangers in the top of
the second.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Is tell come on, man, people are gonna go. He's
not telling us the truth. Come on.

Speaker 6 (32:54):
In fact, pitcher Max Scherzer is due to start a Saturday.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
It is Nolan Ryan pitching on Sunday. Yeah, right, Chuck
Huff's taking the Hill on Sunday. Baby, let's go. He's
gotta be smoking up. He's gotta be in his eighties.
Come on.

Speaker 6 (33:08):
No, as I mentioned last night, I believe it's ra
A Dickey on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
God finish. Charlie Hoff's only seventy six, ye Phil Nekro
is gonna go on Tuesday.

Speaker 6 (33:17):
Sure, Charlie Huff maybe seventy six. He was never seventy
six miles an hour by in his career. And yes,
forty nine Ers running back Christian McCaffrey is out again
with calf and achilles injuries. Going on injury reserve that
is now a possibility. Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison out
against San Francisco with an ankle injury. And you mentioned
college football. Yes, this is going to keep happening. There's

(33:39):
Fox TV college football on a Friday night, and it's
a Top twenty matchup, and it's not a conference matchup
in the Big Twelve, even though they're in the same conference.
You see, they had already signed for these games this
home and home before Arizona ever moved into the Big Twelve.
So not a conference game. At Kansas State tonight, the
Wildcats of k State lead the Wildcats of Eras on

(34:00):
a twenty eight to seven with about eight minutes to
go in this one, UNLV scord late to win at
Kansas twenty three to twenty in Kansas City.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon live from the
Tirack dot Com Studios.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
Coming up next, we start getting to our big picks
of the weekend. We'll give you your upset special picks
in college football, and we'll pick the big one tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Could we see a huge upset in the big nude kickoff?
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Hello, Welcome in side hour two Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon Friday.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
Baby, it's football weekend, A kind of a glass half
full day for the state of Kansas. Kansas on national television.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
I mean, if you have ESPN, they lose Kansas State
on National TV.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
Everybody's got whoa. But if you didn't get to see it,
does the wind count? It doesn't matter. You can just
say you won if no one saw it, you say
it was just in general. I mean, you know, going
back to that philosophical but aren't we all I mean
the fact that you're able to have the conversation you've
won in some respect.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
That's why they're not going to televise Colorado games because
if they keep losing, that's bad. But you can easily
watch a press conference and not really think or know
if they won or lost. And if you say, Dean,
didn't you guys lose by four touchdowns? Did you see
the game? Did you see the game? Do you believe
do you think that happened? Well, no, I don't. I don't,
so you don't know.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
I would say this if you listen to Shadure, He's
got a lot of tells. The poker playing side of
him is not there yet in terms of, you know,
keeping calm and moving forward. Big battle tomorrow, though we
talked a lot about smack talking yesterday at NFL level
and collegiate. That's one of the games we'll have our
eyes on. Colorado State a seven and a half point

(35:48):
dog in that one. Shaduur Sanders and seeing what the
offense can do, whether he gets rid of the ball
quickly enough and they stop blaming their offensive line. Meanwhile,
his brother broke his arm last week trying. I know,
I know it's gonna be out like three four weeks. Yeah,
how it goes?

Speaker 1 (36:07):
Uh So again, big weekend ahead of us in college football,
We're gonna preview more of the big games coming up.
Big night in baseball as well. Diamondbacks and Padres trying
to keep pace with the Mets and the Braves, who
both won earlier tonight.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
So we're getting there. Aaron Judge finally at a home
run I know, came in on August twenty fifth.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
No, I think I think it's the last time one
was like July said, now now he's now, he's now,
it's like, oh he's, oh he's he may not get
to whoa, whoa he may not. Oh oh yeah that
that big home run season might have happened far and
Judge anymore, didn't they make.

Speaker 3 (36:37):
Fun of like he was on did a voice thing
for some cartoon and and that was the the curse
that came on him? Oh oh maybe did he do
it like Late Night with the Devil like that? Shiit?
What the movies there? That's a good movie. I enjoy Yeah,
all of a sudden, like it's like, hey, Judge might
top out it like fifty eight home runs. Suddenly, that
sixty five home run season's gone. It's not happening. That's

(36:59):
just it. We get all excited about the potential for
these big numbers, like it didn't quite do Yeah. Wait
a minute, he was in a Paul Patrol spin off,
Oh Judge, yeah, okay, and ever since that aired, he
didn't hit a home run.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
Oh the Paul Patrol power, Andy Grimmace or somebody from
McDonald's family.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
I think this dog took it. I mean he's a
handsome little son of it. Okay, all right, but I
think I mean, look at that smile, like he knows
it's a happy dog. He's Judge next to it, next
to one not happy dog. Why wouldn't you? Why would
you do that? He's fierce, not gonna do that to
Aaron Judge.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (37:31):
I'd put him next to a big dog. Look at
Aaron Judge. He's next to a big dog.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
So he can ride like a Shetland poem, you know,
like a Dalmati. No, they can jump on and ride
to the rescue.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
You would looked like Game of Thrones, Like here's like,
here's a big night on a dragon.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
You know this, we just took another spin off of
paw Patrol and a whole other dress.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
I got a baseball bat instead of a lance, and
like can come back to him like it's a boomerang and.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
We do it like, yeah, the baseball that's like you
used to have that, you'd throw it on the string.
I'll come back to Yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
And the dog can breathe fire because you know, of
course you gotta have that's right out, a little nikky
fire and ice. The dog can do both fire and ice. Yeah, yeah, see,
not to show the ice is a whole other weapon.
That's I don't think we use enough. You know, let's
have the dragons, but you know I've seen enough of
dragons with five about dragons with ice.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
Let's do that instead, because you get the frozen face
of fear, where as opposed to just disintegrating a guy.
I mean you can only do so much with that.
Yeah no, no, no, sure, yeah, yeah, I know. But
here now we.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
Got frozen guys. Well one's his expression. And if you
kill a guy, eventually you could fall him out. I
always gott to thaw him out and now he's a
bad guy.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Walt Disney out of I'm just oh, whoa, whoa, you
went over the line, over the over the line, over
the line, just jump saying you thaw out a fictional character.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Okay, fictional character. Oh but they want to go down
a rabbit hole? Why they named the Frozen Frozen? Why
Doesney name the movie that? Yeah, you want to go
down a rabbit hole?

Speaker 3 (38:52):
You know exactly. But theory is about minute.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
Let's go with week two in the NFL upon us,
how about Mike, and give you some picts. We take
a look at some of the biggest games on the
docket on Sunday and tell you how it's gonna go.
And let me say this first. I'm gonna make you
feel good. Tell you I'm gonna say this first. I
just want to say let me, let me say because

(39:16):
you're gonna say, you're gonna be mad at me, You're
gonna be upset.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
No, nothing, he hurt me with his word. No, no, no,
that was jerky boys.

Speaker 1 (39:28):
Initially I was hurt by his words, and then I
suffered an injury. Oh okay, okay, mister Rosenberg, mister Rosenberg,
mister yes, yes, I'm sorry. Yes you say thirty five
seventy eighth Street, Yes, mister Rosenberg.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
Yeah, this is where people went full pharmacist in the Simpsons,
Jack tours to r uh huh or family guy, family guy.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
Yeah, this is where people will start believing.

Speaker 3 (39:54):
Fully. Wait in the Bears, whoa whoa Sunday, big game,
right Bears.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
In the Texans time time, everybody expects. The Texans looked offensively.
They had no problems. Week one. It was a great game.
That Indianapolis game was a phenomenal game. What a great
back and forth to Fon Diggs is showing that I
still love stuff left in the tank. You have a
lot of talented receivers in Houston to to the point
where all right, maybe Dalton Schultz is gonna be the
guy left out because Tank Dell's gonna get the tank.

(40:23):
Dell's gon get ball. Nico Collins, you know, is gonna
get balls. And Stefan Diggs because like I think he
hasn't his contract. You absolutely have to throw to him
a certain number of times in the game or you
have to give a million dollars.

Speaker 3 (40:34):
So I think that's part of his contract. Did they
just put the million dollars on the sideline under glass
and then there's a security guard stand there. It's a
million dollars.

Speaker 1 (40:41):
Like you have to throw him at least eight times,
and if you throw to him four times, that's four
million dollars.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
You know, what's the count? What's the count? Get those
fours up?

Speaker 1 (40:47):
Why are we throwing the ball? We gonna do is
kneel on the ball to win? We gotta throw to them.
We got I don't want to pay four million dollars.
What are those signals between c J. Stroud and the OC?
It's him telling him how many more towns he has
to throw it?

Speaker 3 (41:00):
Digs?

Speaker 1 (41:00):
But I am, obviously I'm more. I'm higher on the
Bears than a lot of people. After last week. Caleb
Williams is gonna be fine. He's first game in the NFL.
Guess what he won. A lot of guys don't win
their first game, a lot of top draft picks don't win.
Could he have played better? Absolutely, But this is a
guy who I'm watching him play Game one.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
I go.

Speaker 1 (41:22):
He just has to let it fly, and once he
lets it fly and he trusts instincts, he's gonna be fine.
It was an okay game from to get in and play,
and I'm sure the game plans a little bit close
to the vest because the Bears. And this is where
it's gonna turn for the Bears, because the Bears know, hey,
our defense is gonna be able to control a lot
and so we can slowly open things up for Caleb
Williams a little bit more. He's going to be just fine.

(41:43):
I know, if you start him in fantasy in a
two quarterback league like I did, you're not happy your
seven points. But here's the thing you're gonna see on
Sunday night. Caleb Williams will play better. But the story
of the game is gonna be the Bears defense.

Speaker 3 (41:56):
What did I tell you?

Speaker 1 (41:57):
Was the only thing that I was worried about them
being a top five unit? Well, only one thing. No, look,
the Bears. The only thing was will the defensive backs
be really good out of the gate because they haven't
had enough time to play together and that and that's
a big thing with guys being out new side everything else.
That was the only thing. Because this is a top
five defense after last week, I'm pretty happy with what

(42:18):
I saw from the Bears.

Speaker 3 (42:19):
Well, no, I am pretty happy. Well, I tried to
lay your fears on that side. For me is when
and if the offense clicks right, because you got a
lot of names, like a lot of name and star power.
The thing that really look as the Chicago guy Bears fan,
whatever you want to do, but taking it objectively, I
didn't like their play calling out early downs in terms

(42:41):
of trying to create and push the ball a bit. Right,
you're looking at the run game was stymied, so you're
getting into a lot of second and longs, and for
a rookie quarterback that that's not winning football, right. You
gotta gotta give him some easy opportunities and set him
up for you know, second and a couple more design runs. Right,

(43:02):
he's elusive, don't let him run backwards like he did.
That was your welcome to the NFL speed moment of well,
I can't turn because that guy's already heat. Normally I
would have eight yards of separation, way more time for
that now that I've destroyed. But between Stevenson who had
the big return, and of course you know Jalen Johnson

(43:23):
who's pissed off that he didn't wasn't in the top
one hundred players, right, that carried all off season. Sure,
I don't know that it like other than video game ratings,
this is the most somebody will ranking that anybody's other
people that are upset about not being where they are
in the top hundred. I know, so he really salty
about this, But defensively I felt pretty good, you know,

(43:45):
a well quaffed eb refluced that side of things and
with Eric Washington that they were going to be fine. Offensively,
it looks like a doonsday is going to be able
to go. Keenan Allen, even with the heel injury, looks
like he's going to be able to go. I would
expect more from the other running backs. Swift will have
his breakout opportunities, but I think you're gonna see more
of Rashawn Johnson and Khalil Herbert to where you play

(44:08):
a little more battering RAMS style, try to soften up
the underbelly of the Texan defense. Yeah, I think this
is a good one. Texans six and a half point faired.
I'll think the Bears with the point I'll take, they
win this. I'll take the Bears.

Speaker 1 (44:21):
On the field and the story of the day is
going to be hang on this Bears defense is really
forget about the Jets. We've talked about them in the Nines.
This Bears defense is absolutely outstanding. Who can slow down
c J. Stroud and these wideouts? This is gonna be
the story of the game Bears went on the field.
I would take the points too, but dig that Bears

(44:43):
win on the field in a shocker?

Speaker 3 (44:44):
How about that? Yeah? Yeah? Our guy Ian Roddy in
for Justin Frostburg tonight as executive producer in our I
watched Flex podcast. That was the streaming d They were
available at a little over fifty percent of leagues in
week one. Fifty points. Yeah, yeah, yeah, not available anymore. No, no, no, no,
shouldn't have been anyway.

Speaker 1 (45:05):
There's lots of leagues where you know, everybody has one
defense and there's fifteen or sixteen defenses depending on because
every plays the matchups now defenses like no one. I'm
gonna keep rolling out this team every I'm gonna stream
and do that.

Speaker 3 (45:15):
How many of you thinks streamed against the Jets New
Orleans and Dallas?

Speaker 1 (45:23):
This is gonna be the definition of an artificial bump,
right Like we see that when we go through We've
been going through that with politics this last year, Hey,
is Trump going to get an artificial bump from the RNC?
Is Kamala Harris going to get an artificial bump from
the DNC? What kind of bumps are coming to? And
they're all artificial because it's Hey, it's about excitement. And
then the bump comes back because okay, this is about

(45:45):
policy and different things, and this is the definition of
this game because the Cowboys are gonna get such an
artificial bump after they beat the crap out of the
Saints because the Saints are no good. Okay, the Saints
are terrible, make no mistake about it. But it's just
that the Panthers are absolutely worse. Like this was that
moneyball line. Here's all the rich teams like the Cowboys,

(46:07):
here's where most other teams are like the Saints. Then
there's fifty feet a crap and then under we got
the Panthers. Right, That's what it was. The Saints are terrible,
make no mistake about it. It looks great because they
were playing a team that is absolutely awful and I
can't believe they lost that bet. The Cowboys are on
that that high. To begin the season of Ceedee Lamb
gets paid Dak Prescott gets paid.

Speaker 3 (46:28):
They win Week one. Hey, it's good feeling. I said
from the beginning.

Speaker 1 (46:32):
Dallas is gonna start out the season fantastic, right, They're
gonna be pissed because of the contract situation, and they're
gonna start out big. Hey, the contract's got sold. But
Dallas will start out big. They'll be too and oh,
and it's gonna be maybe the Cowboys are better, maybe
Jerry Jones is all in its improvements the Cowboys made
from within.

Speaker 3 (46:50):
It's none of that.

Speaker 1 (46:51):
This is the Cowboys being two and oh, playing a
team that's no good, that beat a team that just
happened to be worse. Cowboys will win big and they'll
get that artificial bump. But still, well, it's good for
the Cowboys. They'll be two and zer. We're talking about them. Hey,
we're in the conversation, Dak I want to be the MVP.
I want to win super and the Cowboys stay top
of mind. But it's an artificial bump win for them,
because that's where that that's the that's the reality of

(47:14):
their win.

Speaker 3 (47:14):
What they'll have this week. This was a curiosity in
terms of the line total is forty seven. Cowboys are
only a six or six and a half point favorite currently.
And look, I put it on our board that we
have here in the Fox Sports radio studios. We always
pick Super Bowl teams and winners and and something. You know,
you go out on a limb and make the Bowl prediction.

(47:36):
I didn't take the chalk of the Panthers. Panthers are
currently five hundred to one to win the Super Bowl.
By the way, I think.

Speaker 1 (47:44):
I think you missed a couple of zeros. No, it's
just five hundred hit again plus fifty thousand. I'm telling
you they missed them. They missed them too. Patriots are
three hundred one. They missed a couple of zeros there too.

Speaker 3 (47:55):
Okay, yeah, yeah, anyway, but with the idea, Look, they're
trying to get you a late down your dollar. They
know they're taking your dollar, so they at least have
to make it moderately enticing. It's not like saying, hey,
you got a one in a billion shot of winning
the lottery. But the Cowboys, I guess the only question
you still have on this team is the run game, right,

(48:17):
passing the ball move They'll move the ball. Defensively, they'll
get after it. And the kicking game obviously you've got
one of the big legs in the National Football League
where you'll be able to trot him out Aubrey whenever
you need to. So all of that to say, you know,
we watched in Week one as that offense went to

(48:38):
work against Cleveland, a defense that we expected much better from,
and Brandon Cook steps up. They lose Ferguson, which I
think is a bigger loss long term, but again it
happens early in theory. He's back and ready and rested
and back for the stretch run when you're gonna need
a most as a dump off option against better defenses,

(48:59):
look about the run game. But I picked the Saints
to be the worst team in football, and oh they'll
be there because I couldn't take because I you know,
like we basically said in the AFC, we've got to
have some fun outside the Chiefs. Same thing here. I
can't take the Panthers just because I mean, it's it's
just there waiting on you. But I fully anticipate that

(49:20):
they make life miserable for Derek Carr. Captain check down
comes back. He's not able to look down the field
to Shaheed and make those big connections, and that it
is a miserable slog for them, and this becomes a
thirty one to ten kind of finish. WHOA look at you?
There we go.

Speaker 1 (49:38):
So there's our looks aple. Couple of big games in
the NFL this weekend. We have more big game previews
coming up, and straight ahead we'll take a look at
the slate in college football tomorrow. We got Milrow, we
got Top twenty five action. We have all kinds of
things to get to. What could be some big upsets
we see tomorrow. What could shake things up? That's coming

(50:00):
up next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio. Well,

The way tire buying should be Fox Sports Radio. It
is the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Yeah,
let's go big day in college football tomorrow. Just what
kind of issues does Notre Dame really have? It's Colorado

(51:07):
season end? What about the big nude kickoff? Nobody better
to talk to? Been longtime front of the show, college
football insider, extraordinay owner, proprietor Grand Pooba of the greatest
college football website. There is college Footballnews dot com. All
the predictions, analysis, prognostications you could possibly want. It is

(51:29):
your one stop shopping for everything college football. Pete Feutech
joins us. He's on Twitter at Pete Feu Tech and
Pete let me congratulate you as the brand new commissioner
of the new PAC twelve. Congratulations getting all those also
ran schools to start the PAC twelve against show.

Speaker 7 (51:48):
I well, hey, look they've got money somewhere. Yeah, they're
doing something. I mean, look, you don't do this unless
basically how much how bad is the Mountain West when
it comes to payoffs? I mean, because like you've got
the there's the Big ten, there's about one hundred feet,
then the SEC and there's another one hundred feet. Then

(52:09):
like the AEC and Big twelve, we're going to pay out.
Then that brought the same over the next ten years,
and then there's a drop, and that seems to be
where the new PAC twelve is going to kind of
fit into this mix. And there's gonna be another drop
and everyone else, but you know, you can do stuff
with it. I kind of think that, first of all,
the big story here is tonight and with this UNLV

(52:31):
obviously they're holding out for the Big twelve because you
don't do the new PAC twelve without trying to lock
up Vegas because you want that whole market, you want
the city, you want the stadium. You just want UNLV
And the other part of this too is they're an expansion.
There's nothing happening. You know, it's not about college basketball
at all. But if the Pac twelve can like figure

(52:53):
out how to do like Gonzaga and then say, you know,
travel schmabol hey, U Cott, you want to be a
part of you could create one heck of a basketball
conference with this thing from those mountain Westerns. So there's
a lot of ways around it, but yeah, interesting stuff
to drop it like two in the morning the other night.
That was fun.

Speaker 1 (53:12):
That's why pizza commissioner, commissioner who Packed twelve petie, he's
got ideas.

Speaker 7 (53:17):
I got something, Yeah, I could, I could come up
with it. I actually I went a packed cob apologist.
They actually had a good deal in place with this
whole thing with Apple. They actually would have turned out
to make these guys a good jillion dollars, but they
just didn't want to do it. It just bec a
burd in hand. So they kind of be graduating left
for the Big twelve. But that's for another day.

Speaker 3 (53:39):
Like a phoenix rising once again, we'll see how many
more teams sign up and what the deal's become but
big noon kickoff tomorrow. They're outside in you know a
Wisconsin and Alabama. Wisconsin a sixteen and a half point
dog vandyke re reconstituted offense. Is this an Alabama role situation?
Or can they badge? Is actually put up a fight?

Speaker 7 (54:01):
Well, the party line is that they they've been holding
something back. There's still long ago offense. They haven't they
haven't shown anybody anything in the first two games against
Western Michigan and South Dakota. It's like, well, you're not
that good, you know. I mean, you the whole point
of scheduling South Dakota and Western Michigan so you can

(54:21):
figure out how to do that offense and how to
get the timing down and how to make it all work.
And the problem with that is it's sure a shoot
did not look like they had it, and so if
you're that good, then you should be able to just
run your offense, figure it all out, and then you
know who cares? If you know, then beat out, go
out there and beat Alabama. I don't think Wisconsin has it.

(54:43):
I'll be shocked if things don't. Alabama.

Speaker 3 (54:46):
It might take a little.

Speaker 7 (54:47):
Bit, but man, the explosion on that team. I'm right
there and thinking that it's Ohio State and Georgia and
then there's like a little of a drop and then
Alabama and Texas are next. But I think Alabama will tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (55:00):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (55:00):
I think Jalen Melrow announces his candidacy for Heisman this
year with a flourish a national game, the big nude kickoff.
Any wait, we forgot about this guy. I think he
has a huge game tomorrow for Alabama.

Speaker 7 (55:11):
I've been preaching it. I have. I approached it last year,
even though he had to kind of give it to
Jadon Daniels. I said last year you could make the
case he had the game of the year, the play
of the year. He you know, if not for who
is the MVP of the season yet played Daniels in
the LSU Alabama game. In every Heisman possible check box

(55:32):
way except for the gigantic stats of Daniels, mil Roche
should have won the Heisman last year. If we really
hammered this down and now he's got to what does
he do really well? He throws the deep ball? What
is this kune de bora offenselate to do? Explode with
the passing game. I think his stats are going to
be fantastic, and certainly Alabama's gonna be front and center

(55:54):
in a lot of big teams year.

Speaker 3 (55:55):
All right, well stay big ten bound. Looking at Purdue
and no tre Damn can Riley Leonard rebound or is
this an opportunity for a rare Boilermakers win against.

Speaker 7 (56:09):
I don't know how healthy he is. I mean that's
that was kind of the thing with the so far
that Nor Dame offense hasn't been good. It wasn't good
against Texas A and M, wasn't good certainly against Northern Illinois.
I think tomorrow, I do think Notre Dame does bounce
back a little. I don't think there are anything fantastic.
That defense is gonna stuck Ford. It not gonna allow

(56:29):
this thing to happen tomorrow. But that said, can this
offense finally do what The best thing that this offense
did all year was at the second half l the
Lton against Texas A and M and that heat, they
were able to line up and just bash away on
the aggies and that worked. I don't know if you
know you can do that. From the start, they kind
of forgot about the running game. Strangely enough against Northern Illinois.

(56:53):
I think they just don't even mess around that play.
It's not gonna be anything scintillating. But I think the
Irish get through this, you know, a little bit of
a fight here.

Speaker 3 (57:02):
Oh there's the next where we're going to get to scintillating.

Speaker 1 (57:04):
Pete Futech college football inside with us here the Jason
Smithson with Mike Carbon Okay, how scintillating is Deon Sanders
press conference tomorrow following what against Colorado State?

Speaker 3 (57:16):
How does that go?

Speaker 7 (57:17):
I until proven? Otherwise you just keep going, keep betting.
That's a slot machine that keeps staying off. Just go
keep going against just keep until Look at this point,
if you're not so far ahead betting against Colorado that
you can earn yourself the money back. If this doesn't work,
you know, just keep riding it. Because they're not good
at college football. I mean at some point, look, you

(57:41):
know not to go there with this, but you know,
obviously with the twist situation from there, these guys don't
have the longest shelf life going. You can only take
so many hits. How long you let Shador Sanders keep
getting hit game after game because they do not protect
him at all. Roads for a million yards. They literally

(58:01):
have actually the worst running game in college football. They
don't run it, their defense can't do much of anything.
But other than that and everything else is great. Uh,
Colorado State hasn't been sharp yet though. I mean they
haven't been able to throw yet. I think this is
a game they finally do. But man, they don't have
the pass rush quite there yet. But they'll show up tomorrow.

(58:22):
But this is one of those games where you know,
if you're Colorado, you win this and all of a sudden,
you know, he hasn't been too great, but two and one,
all of a sudden, your season kind of gets off
the running. But I chill proven otherwise, I'm still going
against Colorado now, think they're gonna lose, but it's only
seven right now. I think I think Coloradsea keeps this close.

Speaker 3 (58:42):
You know, it's funny to beat.

Speaker 1 (58:43):
When you mentioned that and thinking back to how long
we've known each other, how long you've been on the
show with us, as you said that, and I just
flashed back to Todd Gurley's final year in Georgia, right,
and he had that huge opening game. You came on
the air with us after that, and I said, Pete
Todd Gurley, and you just jumped in it said, stop playing.

Speaker 3 (59:01):
There's nothing else you can prove. Go to the NFL.
S don't play the rest of this year, go right
to the league.

Speaker 7 (59:08):
Yep, it's it's my Jadavian Clowney argument. It's my you know,
all these guys. I know what, if you want to
Bill Parcell's life, if you want to go to the NFL,
go to the NFL, and you know, get there already.
And if you're Sadr, Sanders' money is never going to
be a problem again for him or anything like that.
So that's not the issue. But if you want to
play in the league, what are you doing hanging around Colorado?

(59:30):
Just save yourself, I mean, get out, stop playing, and
stop taking He gets hit, not just like like Sacks.
He gets free shots on him all game long, and
eventually these guys are going to break down because of it.

Speaker 3 (59:45):
Yeah, blitz pick up would be a good thing every
once in a while. Even if you can't run the ball,
someone's got to be able to stand in and take
a little bit of pounding every now and again. He
also needs to get rid of the ball sometimes, you know.
As bad as that offensive line is some of the
abuses on him. But the rest of the slate, we
got a couple of other top twenty fives, But anything
really catch your eye in terms of an upset in

(01:00:06):
the making that we're wagging our tongues later on tomorrow night.

Speaker 7 (01:00:10):
I can't see the Northern Illinois and Notre Dame thing
out there, but there are a lot It's not a
great day of games all the way around. There's nothing killer,
but there's a lot of interesting things that I am
really interested in seeing. Boston College at Missouri Missouri kind
of like Florida State of last year. Everyone loves them
because great wrecord and they look good. They didn't beaten anybody.

(01:00:33):
They hadn't beat anybody last year either. They beat a
bunch of pretty good teams and then they beat you
know how State once they were down to their fifty
string quarterback. But they lost the two games they had
to win last year. And you know, Boston College under
Bill O'Brien, they're running really, really well. That was going
to be the party line on them early on is
that offensive line's really good. And they bashed away against

(01:00:54):
Florida State and they ran I believe it against Ucane
the next week, but they they're running just fine. I
kind of think Boston College gives the Zoo a little
bit of a fight. And the other one, speaking of
the new PAC twelve, the new and improved Jan Brady,
either the PAC twelve, we're about to get here, what happens?
It's rivalry week in. You know for a lot of

(01:01:15):
these teams here, it's Oregon going to Oregon State, it's
Washington hosting Lazoo. These are you know, was DU's been
playing pretty well so far, Washington's have been just okay
against mediocre teams. Oregon's been playing like that, and Oregon States,
you're gonna be jack. They shut out San Diego State
last week. No big wolf, but this is gonna be

(01:01:36):
at another level. I'm not exactly sure which one, but
if we're talking next week and there's at least a
split between those two big four PAC twelves on PAC
twelve rivalry games, I will not be shocked at that one.

Speaker 1 (01:01:49):
And right now Oregon and Washington are playing Marsha Brady saying, sure, Jan,
We're gonna lose these games.

Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
Sure Jan, exactly, Well.

Speaker 7 (01:01:58):
But that would be huge for the NEWPAC que You know, look,
you know if you've those two are gonna be the
you know, the tenth pole, you know, anchors in the mall.
You want Washington State and Oregon State to be really
good right now because that all of a sudden takes
that new conference up with Steve notches in a couple
of years.

Speaker 1 (01:02:15):
The website is college Footballnews dot com. You're one stop
shopping for everything college football. The man making me feel
really good about my Boston College upset special pick this.

Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
Week getting seventeen it is Pete feu Tech. Check them
out on Twitter at Pete feud Tech Again. All the analysis,
all the preview, all the coverage you could possibly want
of everything college football is there for you. Pete. Enjoy
the games, my friend. We'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 7 (01:02:38):
I guys see Roy.

Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
There goes Pete feud Tech time. How to find out
what's trending in the wide world of sports, where with
such a big weekend, we're involved in so much football
happening right now. Clearly the Mets winning eleven three is
the biggest story of the night.

Speaker 6 (01:02:54):
Steve desay or may not get to that, but it's
good to hear all about the PAC twelve because that's
to be very exciting that.

Speaker 3 (01:03:01):
The new Jen Bray is going to be a snatch.
Sure Jen back twelve, Sure Jan.

Speaker 6 (01:03:08):
By the way, UNLV with this late touchdown to win
at Kansas technically in Kansas City, Kansas tonight twenty three
to twenty and yeah, believe it or not, a force
in goal. They ran from the one and it got
them the TD and the win. UNLV last year in
football started nine and two and the two losses were
at Michigan at Fresno State. They wound up in the

(01:03:31):
conference championship game. They wound up playing Kansas in a
bowl game and lost to them. So the rematch was tonight.
Ever since I saw Boise State first game of THEIRS
this season, I can't wait till UNLV plays Boise State.
We're about a month away from that. But first the
next two weeks, well bye next week and then the

(01:03:52):
next two games I should say for the Rebels of
UNLV are against Fresno State on FS one and then
a Friday night hosting Syracuse in Vegas on FS one.

Speaker 3 (01:04:05):
We can handle. Kyle McCord will throw four touchdowns. We
can We're going to handle U and LV.

Speaker 6 (01:04:09):
The mabsolutely going to be busy losing the first week
in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
That night, you're gonna going to be in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
That you admit that, like the Mets are going to
be in the playoffs. Yes.

Speaker 6 (01:04:21):
By the way, the Mets were eleven three winners at Philadelphia.
Tonight's short stuff Francisco Lindor left as a precaution with
the sore bag. Don't go nuts on this, they said,
if it was a close game, he probably would have
stayed in. What is great is to see sometimes the
MLB Network Ballpark cam. You're aware that every game, every
Major League stadium, that channel has a camera just going

(01:04:43):
during the whole game. And it was going during the
Yankee game tonight when they were trailing Boston bases loaded
for Aaron Judge. The game was in the seventh inning.
That was the actual sound of his grand slam at
Yankee Stadium for the lead home run number fifty two.

Speaker 3 (01:05:07):
He has one hundred and.

Speaker 6 (01:05:08):
Thirty RBIs Aaron Judge and the Yanks get a w
five to four over Boston. And meanwhile Baltimore loss got
shut out one nothing. At Detroit, Gunner Henderson broke up
a combined no hit bid with two outs in the
top of the ninth with a triple, so the Yankees
first in the AL East, three games ahead of the Orioles.
The Met's still a game ahead of the Atlanta Braves.

(01:05:30):
For the final NL Wildcard, Atlanta beat the Dodgers six
to two, Kansas City and Tampa Bay with road winds
Cincinnati as well, Red's one at Minnesota eight to four.
Li de la Cruz at Grand Slam, Cubs lost Colorado
over the Cubbies nine to five, as Hunter Goodman had
two home runs seven RBIs, including the go ahead Grand
Slam bottom of the eighth waits Man.

Speaker 3 (01:05:52):
I listened to Hunter Goodman on the eighties channel. He
got Alan Hunter and they're both on together.

Speaker 6 (01:05:59):
You also so listened to Benny Goodman on a front
Chattle Nice, that's on the forties channel. But this guy,
Hunter Goodman was batting one seventy nine going into the night.
He winds up being the hero of the game. In
the AL West, Mariners four and a half games behind
first place Houston. How are they doing? Houston's winning four
to three and Anaheim bottom of the eighth. Mariner's getting

(01:06:21):
shut out at home Texas three nothing over Seattle, bottom
of the fifth, Jacob de Gram in his season debut.

Speaker 3 (01:06:27):
Fo stop stop A lot of people stop.

Speaker 6 (01:06:30):
It happened and it was spectacular. Pitched into the fourth inning,
no runs allowed, four strikeouts and no walks.

Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
Back to you, I really think Hunter Goodman, it's Alan
Hunter and Mark Goodman. That's what it is, the old Major.

Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
Yah.

Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
Yeah, it's like like like like Tim Flannery and Jerry Royster,
like when they would you know, they used to platoon
at second base with the Padres. They're platooning so it's
one person they're put together.

Speaker 6 (01:06:53):
And Mark Goodman says, we'll be back with more videos
in a moment. But first, Tabitha with your latest political news.

Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
This sword Kurt Loader. Sure he's there as well. Yeah
serious you Stevens.

Speaker 1 (01:07:06):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
coming up next, speaking of the eighties. Uh, Mike and
I give you our upset special picks in the NFL
this week.

Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
We each have two picks sure to hit. I'm feeling
pretty good coming off an undefeated two and oh week
Week one. Who do we like? That's coming up next,
