This is the best of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
I'm fine, we gotta split. I'm fine, sure, we gotta split,
which is why you started muttering fenshitables. Oh no, no, I'm
still here your breath listen. I'm still worried about the
bullpen and Edwin Diaz, who has become the lamar Odom
of Major League Baseball. Every other game he can close. Uh.
We talked about sweating relievers for a long time.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
It just becomes the insert name here that's put up
with a Bell Crow nameplate for.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Most other teams. You lose a game like Game two
of the Mets and the Phillies, it's, oh, what a disaster.
How do you bounce back? Mentally, the Mets are like
that was like our fifth most exciting game this week.
We're fine. We'll see you Tuesday night at City Field.
Everything is good, don't worry about A lot.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Of that became a hey, I just eat a nap
after everything that went on for your squad over the
course of the week, the craziness of each of those games.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, just just get me to an off day, That's
all it was. Jason, Yeah, what do you got Frostby No,
we played that open has nothing to do with this
year's Mets, right, Oh no, it does. Oh really, I
didn't know that. Really, really randomly, Mets fandom has never
been this strong. You know what they do?

Speaker 3 (01:38):
They actually spin a wheel and it's got the various
opens that the imaging staff has created.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Ricky and Veto, that's a pretty garbage open if you ask, Wow,
our image guys are not going to be happy with you.
They're gonna be way mass of the country. They're gonna
be waiting for you in the parking lot like your Dodger.
Fans of Machado out man man all at their manager
right now.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Hey, I keep my head on a swivel going into
that parking lot. After some of the stuff he says,
all the time, Jason, are.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
You sweters a good tonight? Twenty four years ago? Tonight?

Speaker 4 (02:11):
Wait?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Wait oh oh Benny Bayani Yeah yeah, thirteenth inning, Yeah,
thirteenth inning, Bennyn. That was a great, That was a great.
That why you named your dog Benny?

Speaker 5 (02:20):
Now?

Speaker 3 (02:20):
That was all he wanted for Benny? And the do
you want for Benny? I think you agreed because it
was Benny?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
No, I no, no, no, I wanted I wanted an order.
I wanted Drago because Benny's the tiniest multi poo yeah,
the sweetest dog in the world. But I wanted something fierce, fierce,
So I said, how about four or or Drago or no, no,
you can't name your little tiny dog dragon. That would
have been the best, though. It's gotta be like a Rottwiler.

(02:48):
He's Drago. What are you doing?

Speaker 3 (02:51):
He's a little dog guy man, crooked teeth. You know,
he's got all sorts of uh. I don't even know.
He's got five six different type of dog in him.
His name's type. He's there's there's nothing legal about you know,
well except he's mine.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
But does he make you carry him around places on
a chair chair? The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harvin
live from the tireg dot Com studios tirec dot com.
I hope you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,

Tirect dot com is the way tire buying should be.

(03:29):
We'll have more baseball coming up. Right now, my dad
gripping his ass off as the Yankees are losing for
to one to the Royals in the seventh inning. This
game is I think this game started for one. I
think at top of the first inning they rolled dice,
all right, starting for it. It's been for to one forever.
It's very long game. It's been for to one forever.
A long game, it seems. I will say this, you know,

(03:49):
not because I don't get this that often with all
the extra playoff rounds, and and maybe because now I'm
I'm you know, I'm looking at my team with a
lot of with a lot of things is at stake
here in the second round of the playoffs, and everything
you looked like the games, The game seems so much
longer when it's your team. That's really I'm like, it's

(04:10):
the fifth inning. Oh, it's only the like it seems
a lot. It seems like the games are way too well.
The running time was only two hours and fourteen minutes, Like, no,
there's no chance. And they're ignoring you know, they're ignoring
the pitch clock. Now, they're ignoring. Batters are getting time
out all the time when they step out. It's like, yeah,
it just don't embarrass me, and I won't call that hit.

(04:30):
But the games are just so lun they just feel
so long. It's like, oh, okay, like hey, if we
go to seven innings in the playoffs, all right, that'd
be cool, long.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Enough to where you felt like you needed to throw
water bottles to to get the action started again.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Maybe that's the other part is that Mets games really
don't start until the eighth inning. Like they're kind of
generic until the seventh or eighth inning. So let's just
start here. But let's just start here.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
The NBA back in the day, right, it's like, all right,
we'll tune in with about two minutes left, see where
we're at. It's like, if it's closed, we'll stay. If
if not, we're gonna go find a rerun of Young Shelton.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
It's all you need. But again, we'll have more baseball
coming up. Yeah, Yankees losing four to one as day
bat in the bottom of the seventh thing, they have
one on and two out. But Monday Night Football. A
missed field goal by Harrison Bucker. He just joinked it
off the crossbar. So the Chiefs lead over the Saints
stays sixteen to seven with ten minutes to go in

(05:23):
the third quarter. Fifty one yarder. Now, there are many
things to take away from this, but let me say
this because this is not going to be popular, but
it's realistic. And if you are paying any sort of
attention to the team in the last year and now
a quarter year and a third, you will understand. The
Chiefs as we know them are dead. The Chiefs as

(05:46):
we've known them for the past seven eight years, they
are dead. They are gone. The excitement, the mahomes up
and down the field, the four hundred yards a week
and four touchdowns. I'm afraid to get behind by ten
points because now the game is over. They're just gonna
boat race us. Those Chiefs are dead and it They've
been replaced by just another really good team with a

(06:07):
really clutch quarterback who can make big plays. They have
a pretty good defense, probably the best of the Probably
this is the best two or three year run defensively
they've had in the entire Mahomes era. But that's kind
of what they're They're just another really good team now
with a really clutch quarterback. Because, honestly, Mahomes for a
season in five games now, he's been a game manager, right,

(06:28):
That's kind of what Mahomes has been. And you can
argue so many different things, but he's made it work
with different levels a wide receiver, and they still won
super Bowls without Tyreek Hill. He's been able to make
it work. But this is not the same team. And
Mahomes is a guy that doesn't throw it downfield anymore.
He's a guy that gets in trouble more often than not.
He throws the ball away more often than not. He
throws makes bad throws more often than not. He made

(06:49):
a couple of throws tonight that if Aaron Rodgers made
those throws, you would say, oh, his career is over. No,
Mahomes makes those throws to he's not forty, coming up
surgery and playing for the Jets. But he's not on
the Jet. But but that's really where the Chiefs are.
The Chiefs went from this indestructible, insurmountable rock star team
that you are afraid and intimidated to go in and

(07:10):
play every single week because they had so many ways
to beat you offensively before. Well, the refs still do help.
They still help. Oh yeah, they still help, but they
help on defense. But but like I said, but in
their in their place, they've just become another really good team.
They've lost that that aura of invincibility, the aura of

(07:32):
an aura of excitement, they've really lost because it's not
watching that game is not what it was, and we
should still be watching the Chiefs and say, man, this
is just amazing. Look at what they're doing. They're still winning,
it's awesome, and just saying so many glowing things about
Patrick Mahomes. But we're just not because this is not
the team that we've watched the last seven eight years.
This in place of it is just, hey, we're another

(07:53):
really good football team.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
But that's the thing, right, it's to flashy to where
it becomes hate watching like that. That's gone except for
the folks that are mad that Taylor Swift showed up tonight.
Why didn't you pay attention to my superstar that's showed
up in our game and nobody cares.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
But it's the offense as it's run out now. I mean,
you're running three tight end sets, you're running jumbo packages,
and say, hey, guess which one of our tight ends
is gonna catch the ball? Hell, I think they have
four tight ends that have caught a pass tonight.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
You know, in the backfield, you had to go out
on the scrap heap with the injury to Pacheco to
go get Kareem Hunt, who's played pretty well tonight against
the Saints.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
At the receiving corps, it's like, all right, we'll bring
back Juju Smith Schuster, you know, after the Patriots couldn't
do anything with him, but for the receiving gores all
Rashie Rice. He got blown up by his own quarterback. Right,
that guy looked like he's not that he's an A
list number one, but compared to whatever they had, he
was light years away. Nicole Hardman comes back tonight, all

(08:53):
of those things to say, you've got a strong defense,
kicking game that's usually really reliable. Right, he missed, but
he's got you know, three others. And in today's NFL,
I mean, I guess it's an extension of what we've
seen and what we lament when we watched the Steelers
tough loss last night, justin Fields, I think going back

(09:14):
to Chicago days now he's two and twenty eight, when
the opponents score at least twenty points, think of that
what you will. But we've watched the NFL as a
whole kind of change a bit, and we got out
of it for a couple of games yesterday. But look
at how many fee, how many times teams are working
just to get into long field goal range. Right, you're
not taking shots downfield, You're not trying to blow the

(09:38):
doors off anyone. It's let's not make the big mistake
because we got a guy that we can kick upwards
of fifty yards with pretty good success. So let's take
the three points and move on. And with Mahomes, yeah,
it's been a radic it's been off. The offensive line
is not what it once was. We saw, you know,
changes over the last couple.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Of years.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
In the entirety of the AFC. What do you got?
You got Baltimore and then what else in terms of
that same level. There's still a really good team, but
not enough to hate watch. So Patrick Mahomes got to
drift into this next phase as a let's see what
he does. I mean even this year, Like, how much
of the hatred and vitriol is there Travis Kelcey and
Taylor Swift. I can't stand it's oh yeah I don't

(10:22):
really care. Yeah okay, yeah yeah, but wait no, I
can't even muster that up. I can't. I mean, it
was outrage to be I can't. But you can't even
trump it up this year because Kelsey's not the primary
target again, pace yourself, round yourself into shape, right because
they need him December January versus running a ton of outs,

(10:48):
and it's not the thing in their place. They are
now just and I say just just because of what
they were. They are now a really really good NFL team.
They have a really good defense, and they have a
quarterback who's still the best quarterback in the NFL, who
makes clutch plays more than he does light up the
scoreboards anymore.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Yeah, it's like I'm the traveling road show. We're gonna
watch this. This is a fun They're up and down,
he's winging it out. I'd rather watch the Falcons. I mean,
come on, man, I mean the Falcons are a better
show than the chiefs are.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Now this is true. I mean it's yeah, Kurt Man
flying all around winter lose, winter, lose. I got any
shirts as you buy a Coles. The next day I
went shopping at Coles and at Target. So that's how
much you know?

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Double?

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get that. I walk in that.
We take the picture next to the Kirk Cousins cut
out that's standing right there. You take the picture and
you go in and shop. Did you do all lunch
at cam Art Express or Pick and say no? No, no, Panera?
Panera because it's right next door. It's good, good bread,
got a bread bowl and half soup, half sandwich. You know,
wait what you I'm gonna have a kirk Cousins. You
have me kirk Cousins days I've had where it's been

(11:52):
what we can do. I'm gonna go to Panera for lunch.
I'm gonna go to Target, I'm gonna go to Costco
and then I'll get ready for the show. Okay, great men,
have a Kirk Cousins day almost every day. It's not
a bad way to be get a Coles or a
Marshall's in and you've won, see you. I like Coles now.
Is that that's where you can return your stuff from Amazon,
whereas like if you order, but like I just did

(12:12):
a whole Amazon buy before you try, before you buy
because I bought sneakers. So you get like six pairs
of sneakers, you know, they get delivered and try them on. Like, Okay,
I like this pair, these five. I don't bring him back.
How do you need to box them up?

Speaker 5 (12:23):
Like?

Speaker 1 (12:23):
You just bring him to Coles in the box in
the in the regular shoe boxes and they go, yep, okay,
got it. Drink drink dink, You're good, and they send
it right back to you. Ye, give you Coles casts
for it to y you get like a toy here,
come back in the next three hours. Yeah, and use
the guaranteed to see Rob Parker there.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Yeah, gotta figure out that next batch of.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Rob Parker could also be at Panera getting refills on
so I can also be that. No, I got Kirk Cousin.
I have Kirk Cousins Days every day. Man, It's it's
great Kirk Cousins Day. Today. I'm gonna go to Target,
I'm gonna go to t J Max. I'm having a
great day, a great day. Exit out bout of Frasca Exit.
Just understand, it's not that the Chiefs are suddenly bad.

(13:03):
I look, they're undefeated. They're they're steaming their way to
be in five and zero, they're up sixteen seven. They're
just instead of the traveling road show, it's oh, this
is not it's like this. It's like if if a
woman starts dating a guy and he's so exciting right
in high school, in college, he was the most exciting
guy out there. He was a rock star. He played
in a band, and he comes out of school and
he's so cool, and they always do all these great things.

(13:25):
And then as you get older, you're getting married, you
have kids, and suddenly he's working five days a week.
Maybe he's an it guy, and he's wearing dress shirts
to work and and and and Chino pants or something.
It's like they got a nice, responsible haircut, and it's like,
remember when you were like that big rock star. Go, yeah, well,
you know, I grew up now and I'm still I'm

(13:46):
successful and I'm doing well providing for my family. I'm
I'm just not the rock star. When I was getting
to your paces, I was twenty four twenty five, I
had long hair and I still look smart because I
wore glasses because I wanted to know that works. All
glasses and long hair. He's smart and he's good looking. Yeah,
I want to make that thing work. That's me. That's me.

(14:06):
It sounds like you got a girl or two stoles.
Oh no, No, I just knew. I just knew so many guys.
I'm like, I said, dude, do you really need glasses? Ah?
Kind of nuts. I'm smart, but I have long hair.
Want to make sure you know that that that's I'm cool,
but I'm smart, So you know that's what I am.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Oh okay, I didn't have to advertise that like that,
that you were smart me.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Yeah, did you ever have long hair? I can't even
picture you with long hair?

Speaker 5 (14:29):
No?

Speaker 1 (14:30):
You kidding?

Speaker 3 (14:31):
If I thought going to the barber as a kid,
it was it was a woody spoon man.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
You know, today might almost be better than yesterday because
today I have no stress, zero stress all day long.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
I'm able to.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Watch playoff baseball. I'm like yeah, this is Yeah, let's
see who could win and make it into the LCS
along with us. Let's catch up on whatever series that
you've been watching, monkey from Oh yeah only murders.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Got to watch all of that today, went and got lunch,
maybe took a watch Dog.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Hey, let's watch all the time.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
But dead watch class A have to come on for
a five out save that didn't go quite as smoothie.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
But that's the thing because my wife's whole family, you know, Detroit, Yeah,
and so you know which Detroit had a little bit
of a day today. Yeah, but the Tigers it was
all I mean, it's just they're they're just pins and needles,
and it's constant texting. But I'm like, I'm okay because
I don't have to worry about did you just got
to sit there like Al Bundy on the couch. I'm good,

(15:44):
I'm good. What do you need? I'll help. What do
you want me to talk? I'll tell you anything you
want about them? What do you want to know? I'll
tell you anything you want because I have no stress
right now. I hope you make it. I hope. I'm thinking, Oh, boy, Mets, Yankees,
Met's Tigers, Met's guy.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Yeah, no, I hope you do.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
I hope. I don't know. We're gonna play. It's okay,
I got they got nothing. And but time, man, I'm great.
These the days are just yawning by between now and Sunday.
It's so great. Today was such a great day. But
most importantly, very really wanted to catch up on all
the TV. No, that's key, yeah, I mean, where you
get into another football weekend? I mean, come on, man, right,

(16:17):
I had a good bad bad Monkey was the finale,
and From had a huge episode of From and Only Murders,
which the plot is. Now I don't even care about
the plot anymore. It's just so incredibly funny with the
with the stunt casting this year that they've done the
last episode entertaining. I don't even know what the plot
is anymore, doesn't it doesn't matters more. Eugene Levy Yeah,

(16:40):
oh yeah, yeah, I don't even care anymore. Here's Melissa McCarthy.
Let's bring back Meryl Streep. All is good when and
right with the world.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
And then we got football and baseball, so college soccer
and the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
So here we are Major League Baseball Yankees right now,
bottom of the seventh inning, they lead the Royals three
to one. The benches emptied last inning after a rough
play at second base, Garcia going into second on a
double play and Volti comes in and makes the tag.
Uh because uh because it was a step on first

(17:16):
throw to second tag the runner double play and Volpi
goes in, makes the tag and then with his right
arm kind of haymakers Garcia and then the Yankees the
ones that get all checked. People hate the Yankees, like
this is this is Volpi goes in with his off
arm like like as a haymaker to and and and
he gets up and Patt and Garcia on the shoulder,

(17:36):
and then Garrett Cole comes over. Garrett Cole so look
like the guy going, oh, you want to fight, hold
me back, on me back, you want to fight, Come on,
hold me back, you want to well, you know there's
no there's no possible. He's gotta come on, you want
to fight, And they're tell go back to the dog.
You wonder why people hate the Yankees. The Yankees completely
made that situation happen, and the Royals honestly had a
lot of clas Garcia. I don't know how he just
walked off the field right. I don't know how because

(17:57):
what what you know? I know, you hit me and
then your pat me on the back when to escort
me off? Come on? But I don't know what her
hands on what bol says after that, because I.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Know's not about what he says it's about but he
did it, But it looked like for a moment like
he was trying to say something to him, right, and
then they kept chirping.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
I don't know if he said sorry about the follow
through whatever. Hope he was apologized. He would have done
it to his face, but instead he pats him on
the back as he walks off. Come on, man, you
know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Immediately in the aftermath, like when they're on the base,
blankety blanket.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
I don't know what he says, but clearly he thought
he'd remedied the situation. Although the little dive over the
top with the forearm shiver, yeah, maybe a bit much.
I mean, the Yankees there, that's a team. They're fake
tough guys like that. That whole thing. Fake tough guys
like that, that's what that is. That's not like Padres
tough guys. I think a winker. Let me meet you

(18:53):
in the parking lot situations. Yeah, maybe maybe meet you
out in Temecula or any of the past. I want
you want to fight you moments with Cadres fake to guys, Now,
I think they would actually fight fake. No, I don't
think they're fake. I think I think they would all
Actually they're fake. I think I think because I think
tis down. Are you kidding to tease and be the

(19:15):
guy at the beginning of the anchorman throwing the trident
like that guy Ken Rosenthal beating them in the fight,
all right, he would, he would hypnotize them with his
bow tie, choke them out with him like it's a geek.
It actually spins and it's like a bad So the
Yankees now go into the eighth inning. They are six
outs away from the Alcs, the fake tough guy New

(19:37):
York Yankees. Meanwhile, early in the day, yes, we're getting
Game five in the Alds between the Tigers and the Guardians.
And let me just say, look, watching these Tigers Guardians games,
but specifically watching the Tigers the last last couple of weeks,
like this is playoff baseball that you and I remember
as kids, where every game is nothing nothing or one one,

(19:58):
Every run is liked, and there's like drawing a pint
of blood and it's and this is baseball what it
was like when we were growing up, and that's kind
of what this is. There's not a lot of errors,
there's not a lot of base hits. The pitching is fantastic.
And when you have guys like school Ball and the
two best bullpens in the American League, Yeah, these are
fun games. And the and the Guardians pull out a

(20:18):
huge win today, which is fantastic. They get to go
home for Game five. Congratulations, your prize is Schooble. So
that's great, great news. Whoever comes out of the a
the other albs, because now School's only gonna pitch two games.
Maybe he's a game three guy Game seven, but you
don't have to worry about schoobl in game one and
coming back on short rest. So whoever wins this game tonight,

(20:39):
they're the big winners. But congratulations Cleveland, your prize is
schoobl in Game five.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Yeah, huge w there obviously as we wait decisions for
tomorrow with the Dodgers and Padres. But on the al side,
I mean, yeah, the Tigers, it's it's thrilling, but it's
not does that make sense? Because everything's a grind, So
when there is there is something that happens, it's a
it's a big push, right the it look like they're

(21:05):
being shut down. Then you get the mckinstreet home run.
I was like, all right, we're back in it. All right,
now we've got life once again because it had gotten
awful quiet. That was a a moment that that lives
on and then you end up getting a fantastic finish
as it wore. But yeah, Schooble waiting in the wings,
you set up your rotations and all of that stuff. Yeah,

(21:26):
it's it's a pain in the neck, but it's great
for us.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
That's great. Theaters good. It's like the team that wins
the you know, the eight to nine game in college
in the tournament, Like, hey, we're able to outlast them
by two points, what a great win. Oh yeah, you
get Duke, you know, you get the number one team,
they're favored by twenty seven. You get Houston, you know,
you get oh great, great, Yah, that's great. But hey,
you succeed and pro seed, you will advance to the

(21:51):
next thing. You get another chance and hopefully whoever is
on the other side and let's face it, pitching is
the thing that we don't really have in great supply
any of these squads. I mean, you got one or
two guys here and there. Yeah, you got a bullpen
that you can trust in a couple of situations and
for a few teams. But otherwise it's say, hey, let's
just turn it on, grab a beer and watch it

(22:12):
unvolved live from the Tireck dot Com studios, Jason Smith
Mike Carbon will keep you updated on the Yankees and
the Royals throughout the night. Of course, again, Yankee's going
for the clincher tonight. Wow, copa Tarzan hat trick doesn't
even get in the opening. No, it doesn't get in
the open. No it doesn't. I mean Steve disrespected it too.
It didn't even make us up to it. He'll get it.
Int worry about it, he'll get it in. Got that,
you got a w NBA Finals game, A lot of stuff,

(22:34):
and somebody want to tell Jannis it's preseason. My goodness.
We got well, the Lakers who were so happy to
be going to Milwaukee for this game. We don't get
on everybody. I know, I know Lebron was.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
Ready to take out the officials, he complained about having
to make the trip.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
I mean all of those things. But Thursday Night football
seven minutes ago in the third quarter, and this is
a game that seems closer than it is. The forty
nine Ers lead the Seahawks twenty three to ten. And
the Seahawks have had one play tonight, and I no, no,
I mean they have had one play tonight, and it
was Leviska Schanol's kickoff return for a touchdown following a

(23:08):
forty nine Ers score, and that's been it. They have
not been able to run the football. They've not really
been able to throw the football. The Seahawks have looked terrible.
And the forty nine Ers they got the scare with
Jordan Mason going out of the game early, but he
comes back into the game.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
For all the.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
Concern and the issues with the forty nine ers, and
oh my goodness, look at them. How are they two
and three? They beat the Jets. They might just hang
on a second. What we're seeing tonight is the typical
response to a team that thought, oh, we've been together
for a couple of years, we can just pick up
and start the season, when our left tackle hasn't really

(23:48):
played and we're missing the best running back in the NFL,
you know, because as good as Jordan Mason has been,
doesn't give you what Christian McCaffrey does, doesn't open things
up in the red zone as much as McCaffrey does.
Oh yeah, our best receiver who decides to sign right
before the season begins. The Niners just found out the
hard way that oh, we can't just pick things up
and go right. You actually need some time to get

(24:09):
going and get into the season. And clearly the first
Weekgadst the Jets. Look, the Jets offense was absolutely abysmal.
And I see, when you have to fire a head
coach five games in, you know you're not great. But
seeing the forty nine ers struggle, I'm not worried. I'm
not worried because I watched them play a game like
this and this is simply Hey, we have to get
back to basics. We have to focus, and we have

(24:30):
to make sure that we're doing everything we need that
we're used to maintain our level of excellence. And you're
gonna need a month or so when all your guys,
your big guys are signing late. You don't have time
to play and your best player doesn't get to play.
There's always a bit of adjustment period with things like
that happening. You can't just because everybody's been together. You
can't just pick it up and go. So that's all
this is is that this is a team that's gone

(24:51):
so far the last few years. The beginning of the
season sometimes it can be a bit of a slog
And while there probably was a bit of concern watching
the forty nine Ers play tonight, the Seahawks aren't great.
They're a good team. They're not great. They're coming back,
they're coming back to earth a little bit now. But
seeing them play tonight, I feel confident they're getting back
to where they were And it was just a some teams,

(25:12):
when you play that deep every year, the beginning of
the season can get a little difficult for you. And
that's all I've really seen so far. I mean, everything
else with the forty nine ers, it's absolutely fine. I mean,
the Seahawks are resplendent in these Kurt Warner era these
I mean the less because you know me, they're they
theyre when they wear the neon Yeah, that's the worst,
that neon green. That's the you know, like your highlighter

(25:33):
on history. You know, I almost would rather watch a
baseball team bunt than to see them in the Yeah
you were, that's how bad those uniforms are. It's a
highly important bunt. Yeah no, and a big squeeze. But today,
yeah great, but no, I'd rather see a team bunt
than have to see the Seahawks highlighter uniform. Okay, good, yeah,
well the Enix Thursday Night. But now you gotta explain

(25:56):
the millennials that Kurt Warner is not Kurt Warner, the
quarterback with a se Wow. You have to explain that.
We gotta go. You gotta explain, You gotta explain it.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Kurt Warner is.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
He's not just an announcer and a guy who does
silly skits on Sunday Morning Football.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
You might have to explain to Jen Xers who the
original Kurt Warner was. And that's the guy we're talking about.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
Yeah, we're really going teeth all right? Never mind? Uh,
their old uniforms look cool.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Yes, there you go. Because I can't bring out a
Jim's Orner. It's Steve Largin or anything. But now, Steve
Largent was in Congress for a while.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
People still way okay, and he's brought up anytime there's
any kind of accomplishment by a Seahawks player because he
holds so many records, there's no question. But watching the
forty nine ers, it is the the long slug. As
much as we say there's only seventeen games, there's seventeen games,
and how many teams are gonna run away and hide?
You got a who's great? We've asked this question a lot, right,

(26:52):
you got a couple of undefeated teams, but are they great?
Do you believe in your in your vikings the Chiefs,
I believe as long as fifteen is upright, they'll be
there and they'll have a say in the end in
the AFC. But when we look at the forty nine ers,
you're getting healthy, getting right. Changing up how you have
to call plays because Mason is not McCaffrey. McCaffrey doesn't

(27:12):
take up the defensive attention that I should say. Mason
doesn't take up the defensive attention that McCaffrey did, So
you've got to change that up. You've had injuries to
Debo and to Kittle. Trent Williams is the one solid,
great component of the evaluation of that offensive one was
everybody else is a little bit above average, but once

(27:34):
you put him back in, they're all great. And Brock
Purty has made a couple of really big plays tonight.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
This can't it doesn't make sense. But you get the big.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Kickoff return Chenault and now that the Seahawks are driving
trying to make it interesting here at the back end
of the third quarter. But all of that to say
that you don't have to race out to a five
and zero record. This is a division game. Go win
this game. Like last week, they were one of six
in the red zone. They were terrible. They lost their kicker, Moody,

(28:04):
so they had to sign a guy off the street,
and he's come on and he's kicked well for them tonight.
But the red zone inefficiencies came back and bit them
last week in a narrow loss to Arizona. They come
right back and they're putting a shell acking on the
Seahawks up until this drive.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Seahawks about to go in. They could somehow turn this
game into a one score game. Again, it doesn't make sense.
It makes absolutely zero sense that the Seahawks can tie
this game up here or can get within a score here.
As they are driving on San Francisco again. But hey,
as Chris Berman would say, but that's why they play
the games right, like the old Berman where he would

(28:42):
he'd sit here and go the Jets and the forty
nine Ers. The forty nine Ers are fifteen to zero.
The Jets are one and fourteen. The Jets have scored
three touchdowns this month. Steve Young threw three touchdowns last week.
But that's why they play the games right, because whenever
he would do that, you knew it was a close game, right,

(29:03):
This wasn't gonna be a Niners beat the Jets thirty five,
for you always do. But that's why they played the
game twenty five years man exit exit, how about a
Fresco exit? Swallen Dome. One of the Seahawks players is
throwing up on the sideline as they get ready for
second in goal. Not sure who it was. I don't
know at least look clear. Yeah it was, Well it's
gotta be if you if you, if you're throwing up.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
You know, maybe maybe he went ahead and nice, but
you have pasta for well before you started.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
A passive with the vodka sauce. I should not have
had the shrimp and the Chicken added in maybe he
was idea.

Speaker 4 (29:37):
This is not good.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
This is not good.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
Well, here we are Game five of the NLDS. Well, the.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
Just waiting to see who we're gonna play. It's it's
fun right now. We have just seen a big home
run by ta Oscar Hernandez. He has doubled the Dodgers lead,
key Hernandez going deep earlier in the game. Bottom of
the seventh the Dodgers lead the Padres two to nothing,
and the Dodgers aspect of this in a second, Mike,
but obviously, look, this is the big game happening right now. Yeah,

(30:17):
and the Dodgers seventeen to seven. Yeah. The Cats leading Maryland. Congratulations,
you're beating Maryland point dogs. No, No, it's it's it's
good so far. It's good for me.

Speaker 5 (30:28):
It's it's good.

Speaker 4 (30:29):
It's good.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
It's pins and needles in the City of Angels. I
gotta be honest, and this is this is one of
the pitfalls of what happens when emotion guides you a
little bit too much.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
Right.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
The whole thing with the Padres the last couple of
years has been, boy, it seems like they take every
game personally and it's the World Series every week. We've
talked about it. You can't play that way, you can't
sustain it. But for a short series like they have
against the Dodgers, yes, absolutely, And the first three three
games it was We're gonna do whatever the hell we want.
We're gonna dance in front of your fans. We're gonna
steal home run balls away and pretend we didn't catch it.

(31:07):
We're gonna be upset when you throw at our guys,
and we're gonna nearly brawl. I'm gonna throw a baseball
at your manager. We're gonna a guy from the dugout
because he's told me a peacock. It was the Padres saying,
we're gonna do whatever you want because we know how
to get under your skin. There are still the Padres
still have six outs in this game, but this is
hell and gone from the Padre team.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
Just two games ago.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
They look like they are just ready for the offseason,
and they've looked like they're ready for the offseason. Going
back to Game four, they looked like they're at bats
against the Dodgers in the bullpen game.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
It was not good. They didn't have the same fire.
It just this is not the same team.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
I look at this if if you didn't watch anything
and you watched the Padres play two games ago, and
then you watch nothing else and you put this game on,
you would say, this is not the same team.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
This is not the same guys.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
These are the guys that are that are completely trying
to uh just swing at everything they see from every
Dodger pitcher, starting with Yoshinoba Yamamoto. There doesn't seem to
be the plan. There doesn't seem to be the electricity.
It just looks like a team that is going through
the motions, and the Dodgers are the team that looks like,
we want to win, we want to go on, and
we want to be playing on Sunday, hosting game one

(32:18):
of the NLCS. This Padre team is absolutely unrecognizable from
two games ago and stunning like over the course of
the regular season. I would get it if, well, hey,
they were riding on emotion and had a couple of
walk off home runs and they look unbeatable, right now,
I get that. Then you hit skids for a little bit, right,
you work things back. But in the NLCS, when you're
a game away from knocking out a team that you

(32:39):
can't stand and that you are, you are foaming at
the mouth to do this. And this is the kind
of effort you're getting. I mean, I get the Dodgers
are good, but everybody they've thrown out there the last
two games is not given up a run. And I
don't mean it's like two or three pitchers. You're going
on twelve people, Mike, this is like twelve people the
Dots are throwing out there. Right. We had eight guy's

(33:00):
last game. You saw what they did beyond the second inning.
Going back to Game three, right, I mean, that's how
long it's been since the Padres scored and played at
a run. And it's not like the Dodgers pitching.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
They're striking guys out, they're putting malls in play, they're
just not getting anything on it. They're not getting good swings, y'all.
Momoto finished his five innings, and he was brilliant.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Gives up two hits. He only had two strikeouts in
his sixty three pitches. He threw thirty nine strikes. That's
an awful lot of Hey, we're getting a little deeper
in the count where we've got an opportunity. Instead you're
getting weekly hit balls.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
And Phillips comes in does his one and two thirds
dominates crowd losing their minds as.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
He exits for Vessia. Just amazing.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
And Darbish had himself a great outing except for well
two pitches, and that's the mark.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
That's the margin. That's what we're talking about here in
a series controlled by so much emotion early that now
it's just puckering up on the Padres side of things.
I mean the ti Oscar Hernandez home run, I mean
that wind up took fifteen minutes and then he just
sat on it and hammered it and all you saw

(34:11):
was a sea of towels or whatever the giveaway was today.
I don't know if their towels or shirts, but but
either way, Yeah, going all the way back, remember remember
that six run inning and how it just seemed like
a tidal wave of emotion from that dugout and the
taunting and everything. Even the Dodgers furious comeback, it's had
nothing and they've been absolutely flat and gutted ever since.

(34:34):
And to your point, we're talking twelve different pictures. I
mean at some point you figured there would have been
one guy that one guy, just want just one guy
that Hey, it's not my day. No, anyway, I think
the Dodgers could start bringing people from the stands.

Speaker 4 (34:49):
To throw and they would put zero's up. What was
men ark could come in from behind the plane.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
Well, but they had the one inning where they did
get two runners on, but it didn't feel like a threat. No, right,
even on the telecat as he said, they got that
first the first out of the inning. There doesn't seem
like you're still within the double playball and what do
you know, boom inning over. Yeah, I mean look, and
it's really something because as you say, you Darvish has
pitched out two pitches, right, but he has pitched outstanding today.

(35:16):
He has kept the Dodgers off balance again two into it,
the first pitch to Key k Hernandez where you know,
Key k Hernandez was hunting it and he hit a
home run to Askar Hernandez here, And that's really been it.
He has kept the Dodgers off balance and this should
be a game where hey, the Padres at least dent the.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
Board a little bit. But I mean, anybody, look the look.
Look right now, Dave roberts is walking behind the home plate.
He is grabbing a guy who's about seventy years old.
He's coming into pitch next inning. Everybody can get the
dot the Padres out. Every single person can only had
one at bat with a runner and score scoring position
today to tease that was it. Otherwise it has been

(35:56):
a masterclass once again, Dave robertson and they put it
up on the telecam right five th two in winner
take all games and right now his team coming up
big key k a Hernandez. He was doing a lot
of yapping before this game, right want the moment, I
want in and right now he's the he's the difference.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
Waving decent waving after he hit the home run.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
Hey, but like the last last forty eight hours, he's
been the guy talking it up.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Right.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
We talked a lot about the Otani emotion the last
month and a half two months of the season, starting
to see like a different temperament. The bat flips the
you know emotion on second after stealing a base, and
Keith k Hernandez said, hey, show.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
Hey, I got you. Now it's uc to it's time
for Game five. It's my turn. This is what I do.
And they said, what is it? Won every thirteen postseason
at bats for him, as opposed to one out of
every twenty seven at bats home runs in his career.
Going to the top of the eighth Now Dodgers with
a two nothing lead, and I'm I'm gonna shock you, Mike,

(36:59):
cause I'm going to do something for the first time.
We've been doing the show over ten years together. Now
I'm going to do something I have never done before.
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (37:08):
I am changing my mind on a take. I am
changing my mind.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
I am changing I am changing my mind in the
course of twenty four hours because there's new information. No no, no,
it's not one of those hey things have happened. No no,
I am changing my mind. I know what I said
last night. I know this. I know I remember I
thought of I thought, I know what. I know what
I said. I know what I said. But now I

(37:35):
don't want to play the Dodgers. And your vocal inflection
was absolutely perfect. There you were like a five year
old that was just told, Hey, we need to go
see the dentist. I can I get ice cream? Can
I have ice here's ice cream. I don't want ice cream,
I want cookies. I don't want to play the Dodgers. Now, look,

(37:58):
this is this shows you about about how emotions can
change over the course of one series. But the Dodgers
go into Game four with their backs against the wall,
and here they are now game five. You can tell
how badly they want it, how amped up they are.
And it was the other night you could tell that
in a in a series which had been ruled by emotion,

(38:22):
the Dodgers pulled back. And I give them so much
credit because for three games the Potters do whatever they
wanted to. When I say game one, they can get
under the Dodgers skin and they're doing it. The Dodgers
can't let this happen. Max Munsey says, they're getting under
our skin. It's like Max Munsey listened to the show Congratulations.
If the Dodgers went, I should get a ring. But
like the way the way they have just flipped that
switch and said no, we want it. We know what

(38:44):
October is all about, and and it is. They are
now back to being a really dangerous team up until today,
obviously Mookie Betts has been red hot, Freddie Freeman is
back in the lineup.

Speaker 4 (38:53):
Yeah, I don't want to play the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (38:55):
Now, wait, way the bullpen's going and I no, no, no,
I want I want san Diego.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
So I can play the pot.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
No, I understand it's a uh you're in a glass
case of emotion right now because you're seeing, uh, the
way this goes. And obviously still long term curiosities about
starting pitching. But Yamamoto stepped to the plate. We've it,
stepped up to the mound. And really, I mean stepped
up to the plate is the old adage? Uh? And

(39:25):
really and put it on the line because there were
a lot of questions, right was he tipping pitches? Uh?
Is he one hundred percent from a physicality mentally? Where's
he at? And and I know all the detractors are
already out there, how could you pay this guy this
kind of money?

Speaker 3 (39:39):
And maybe he doesn't start. It's like there's a million
factors going on here. You have no idea and we're
never gonna get one hundred percent of the truth had
he not taken the mound. But he really answered all
the critics. Everybody wanting to see, you know, after his
performance earlier in this series, you know, the intestinal fortitude
in a big moment, got the all Japanese starting pitching matchups.

(40:02):
So certainly for the last twenty four hours. I mean,
you want to talk about a headline, I think I
saw that more than anything else today. If I had
a nickel for every time it showed up in my timeline,
I'd be a very wealthy man. But he showed up,
and he bowled out, and his teammates had his back again.
Only two strikeouts in his five innings, Jason, that's a

(40:24):
lot of opportunity for the Gloves to come to work,
and the Dodgers responded in full force. The crowd and
the energy. I can only imagine what some of our
Dodger friends are feeling right now. None of them are
answering any texts. No, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
Well, I wanted to show some love because you know me,
I love me some Tae Oscar I'll.

Speaker 4 (40:46):
Tell you man.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
You know, Michael Kopek coming in now for the Dodgers
Whites to start the eighth inning. Look at that, Look
at look at the White Sox denting the postseason. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
We're all over the place.

Speaker 5 (40:55):
Man.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
We're making big strides here.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
We have guys that used to play for us that
are still playing. We're very excited about this.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
I still hate this lighting thing that everybody does now.
I think it's dopey. But look, but make no mistake,
you talked about Dave Roberts. There is one person that
has will save his job with a first round win,
and that's Dave Roberts. Because I couldn't see there to
be anyway if if the look, the Dodgers could still lose.
Padres still have two winnings to go here, but they

(41:22):
have to can't be dead from the neck up batting
like they've been. But Dave Roberts is the guy because
it's something you can't just say, hey, we spend a
billion dollars in the offseason and we lose in the
first round again. Uh, you're locked into all the players,
You're locked into a lot of ways of doing things.
Dave Roberts would be the guy, right or wrong, who
is going to be the change because there need there
would need to be some kind of change for the

(41:43):
Dodgers if the Dodgers hold on, if this game continues
to go as it is. He has saved his job
getting into the NLCS. Here's where we should be. Do
we avoided the first round of the playoffs. We're in
the NLCS again. I think that this is even if
they lose to the Mets, Even if that has happens,
Dave Roberts will stay the Dodgers manager because this was

(42:04):
the line. Well, because I gotta say, because one of
two teams is gonna win, right, I mean, one of
two teams is gonna win. I know one team, the
Mets are the favorites right now. You know why because
they're sitting around and waiting. They're the only team that's
in right now. There's only one team in there, the favorites.
Right Where are they though? I feel like they're on
a beach somewhere now. I feel like they're all at
the airport, like and they're all like watching airport TV

(42:26):
and they're going.

Speaker 4 (42:27):
Boarding for San Diego has been delayed for forty minutes.
Up boarding for Los Angeles. We'll be out of here
in a half hour. And they're going, and carls Wondez's going.
Just nobody leave, nobody go too far. Like when you
have a class, try nobody go too far. Go to
the bathroom in pairs. When you come back, we'll know
where we're gonna be flying. We've got a.

Speaker 1 (42:44):
Plane here and a plane here. But just everybody stay together,
all right. If you need to go, go in twos
and pairs of the bathroom. Be back here ten minutes. Okay,
I don't want to go looking for anybody. Ten minutes.
Let's come back here. Go with your chaperones. They'll be
able to take you where you need to go. Yeah,
we're gonna find out really quickly, you know, Dave Roberts.
To further the point and punctuate it, you know, your

(43:05):
guy Saala got fired this week. Something had to give, right,
And obviously Woody Johnson decided that just changing out the
coordinator and play calling responsibilities was not a big enough shift.
Dave Roberts is a far more successful and accomplished version
of that scenario. How dare you know? Dave Roberts and
Robert Sala in the same sentence, how dare you do it?

(43:28):
Have no right? I have no time for the Jets,
shinet Wiggins. Right now put that, Hey, put that in.
There's my hot take. Time for that accomplished Robert Salah
in other words, the head coach, the manager, that's the
head that rolls. We've talked about it all the time.
You can't fire all the players, as much as you

(43:50):
may want to at times.

Speaker 3 (43:51):
Right, even with your jets, there's part of you, whatever
part of that pie chart, whatever part of that pie
chart was like send.

Speaker 4 (44:00):
Rogers away, bye bye chart.

Speaker 3 (44:04):
But we knew that wasn't gonna happen given the investment
made in him. Ergo, it is Noll now on his
shoulders and he has to play Atlas. But for Dave Roberts,
look man, they just put up the graphic. As Copec
took his first pitch on the Fox Telecash fifteen Pitchers
twenty two scoreless innings. I mean, this is the puppeteer

(44:27):
of puppeteers. Where's my artistry? Where's my ai? Dave Roberts
with the puppets up the strings, Let's go.

Speaker 2 (44:34):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (44:45):
Joining us now on the Hotline no Body Better NFL
on Fox Insider Extraordinary Jay Glazer, you can find him
on Twitter at Jay Lazer, what's happening, buddy?

Speaker 5 (44:53):
Hell?

Speaker 1 (44:53):
Are you going? God? You know, look, we were just
talking about this. The forty nine ers win. Even though
the games was closer on the scoreboard, they were pretty dominant.
I feel like I have less concern about them now
after this game.

Speaker 4 (45:07):
Where are you on?

Speaker 1 (45:08):
Where the forty nine ers are?

Speaker 5 (45:09):
I Do'm kind of look at the forty nine ers
a game by game thing. Early in the season, no
matter what I mean, the White Coylee Santa had always
hasn'team ready, especially late in the season. That like you know,
when it kind of comes out of crunch time, they're
going to be a team that you don't want to
see on your schedule. So I don't really have a problem.
Plus plus also like so much like look that offense.
It's such a difficult offense to go against when they

(45:32):
have all their weapons. So McCaffrey's still out, still gonna
be out there. They're still kind of you know, assessing that.
But when you have him in, when you have t
bo in, when you have Kidd, when you have all
these different guys in there, but you never know who's
lining up where. Such a hard offense to be aggressive
with because you're aggressive with one. But like you know,
you may see people on the field and you think
of the receiver, he's really a running back. You know,

(45:53):
McCaffrey's lining up. You're like, oh, you think he's running back.
He's really lining up at HVAC or he's running up,
you know, lining up line. So it's so hard, and
I think that's you know, as the season goes on
and Kyle kind of gets more and more on other teams,
they're just they're they're they're hard.

Speaker 1 (46:07):
At the Fairport obviously, the seventy six yard are from
Guerendo puts a punctuation mark. But Jay, they rushed for
over two hundred yards to night against what was supposed
to be a pretty strong Seattle defense. I know they're
banged up in all, but they owned them.

Speaker 5 (46:21):
Yeah. Again, for then, this is always just kind of
had team right. They're always they're always great and how
they run the ball, even like before they had Miccaffrey,
the Elijah Mitchell, blow the Wall the World and breeds
and stuff like that. You know, it's like they've always
been able to rush well. Because again with Kyle's offense,
you just don't know who load up against you could
He's like he would. He'll have something I think Brady
said at the game the other day. You'll go out

(46:43):
there and you'll think everything is loaded up for them
to run left, and you're all set up from all
of a sudden somehow, you know, as the play charts,
all the power suddenly on the right side. It's completely
different than what you thought when you lined up.

Speaker 1 (46:56):
Jay to get away from this game and obviously the
the the SOA B opera that has dominated the last
few days, the Jets fire Robert Sala Jeff.

Speaker 5 (47:05):
Albrick is such a stable organization.

Speaker 1 (47:10):
Yeah, you kidding, adds as the world turns, it's like
trying to walk across a thin, a thin sheet of
ice on a lake in the winter. Uh. So they
fire Robert Sala. Jeff Olbrick is a new head coach.
They're still gonna call plays defensively. They replace Nathaniel Hackett
as the play caller today with Todd Downing. Where are
you after after seeing what's going on with the Jets

(47:31):
the last few days, where are you on what's going on?

Speaker 5 (47:34):
Well? Here's well, first let's go Obrick step Olbrick, whether
he was the head coach of the Justice here or
someone else, that is the guy that everybody kind of
looks at this league like that's your defensive Sean McVay
as far as like he's that leader, like it's man
the battla floor, the raheem Morrison, dan Quinn like dan
Quinn is like he is broomed this guy to be

(47:57):
that next guy. For so long, Brick has done the
guy out there. He played for the port and I
for a long time. I got a funny story for
it in a little bit, but forty nine for a long time.
He's a tough dude, and like he he's a type
of guy like you want that, you want Jeff oul
Brooks mentality, you want his attitude. It's gonna be a
gang fight out there for him. So I think he's
going to be a head coach for a long time
this league, whether it's with the Jets or somebody else.

(48:19):
But look, I can never figure out what he Johnsons.
You're asked me to figure out what he Johnson. That's
that's nothing I could ever do. But I think I
think that I think Bo Douglas done a great job
person all wives over there. I think you know, a
lot of this too, Like Aaron just hasn't played well.
A lot of it is, and the offense just doesn't
have any rhythm altiole like their running games should be
a lot better than it is. So I do think that,

(48:42):
you know, they do need more of an identity over there.
But I also think like everyone's just success sought. Aaron Rodgers,
we haven't played the year, he didn't play any preseason games.
You do have to get that timing down with you know,
your receivers, which running game, with your offensive line. I
think they're struggling to get from that timing down. But
I do still think that person how wise, I think
they're a really good team, and you know, I think

(49:03):
even with Sally, I think they were going to come
through it.

Speaker 1 (49:06):
Does the change make it any more likely that DeVante
Adams walks through the door.

Speaker 5 (49:10):
It has nothing to do with it. One has nothing
to do with the other. I mean, they're looking for
a two plus and teams just aren't willing to give it,
Like Trusty, if the Jets or everybody was gonna give
it two already would have been done. But teams aren't
willing to do that. And that's what's happened. I think
Mark Davis wants one thing, and the owners of the
Jets and you know, other owners like now or are
we willing to do this? And DM's like, we're just

(49:31):
willing to do this. And that's the thing. If they
were you know, in the pre seasons, teams were calling
to try and the forty nine ers you thought to
that were one of the teams called to try and
trade Jets. Obviously they've changed three a bunch of teams
calling and their GM was like, now, I've got to
give him, give him time with Antonio Pierce, like I

(49:53):
just can't train him away. I got to give at
a shot. But you know, as coach that I talked
to over there saying, you know, and even the ifs
think knew, like, man, we don't have our quarterback in
the future. So he's going to get frustrated. And we
know he's gonna get frustrated. And you know, obviously that's
what's happening.

Speaker 1 (50:07):
If the thing that Jay I think of DeVante Adams
is such a game changer, he's still so terrific. Okay too,
and something else, Okay, I'm ready for it, Okay too,
what do you want doing something else like this is
getting DeVante Adams. I can't believe that other teams have
said yeah, sure.

Speaker 5 (50:22):
Because no, because it's a one year deal. Because the
rest of the contract, that's the thing. You don't want
to get like two and something else. That's a lot
for a guy for one year. You don't want to
rune a guy for one year and give him a
two is just too valuable. And I know you're looking
at it from you know, man, it's about Adams, but
not for just a one year dude. You gotta now
that's that's that's the other thing. There's not a lot

(50:42):
of teams that could put him on the cap right now,
so they can, you know, je can, but other team
probably gonna have to redo a deal get him in there. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (50:51):
I was just thinking about all the teams where maybe
guys are going by the end of the year, I
may not be here, so I don't need to leave
the covered stock.

Speaker 5 (50:59):
Well that's not the head coach of the GMS will
be there and they're like, I don't want to give
a two plus.

Speaker 1 (51:05):
Jake Glazing with us The Jason Smiths with Mike Carmen
live from the tirec dot Com Studios all right. So
I don't know if tonight you're hanging out with Mike Tomlinson,
but we got to get in our requisite Steelers stuff.
With the quarterback situation. Russell Wilson's back at practice. Justin
Fields is still playing well. He talked about how much
the Steelers love him, dealing with the George Pickens drama.
This week? Is this is this a is this a

(51:26):
a A winner take all week for Justin Fields where
if he has a big week, okay, if not, we're
gonna see Russell Wilson play quarterback.

Speaker 5 (51:33):
I don't I don't know the answer because I can't
tell you what kind of week here. Here's the thing,
no matter what the Steelers, right, Steelers are not they're
they're and they've told bultous quarterbacks, you're gonna play with
our identity, and our identity is defense and running the ball,
and we're gonna grind out and grind out. We're not
gonna play, you know, Russell Wilson ball, and you know,
let Russell cook, we're not doing that, all right, We're

(51:54):
not doing this same We're not gonna blown nobody out
thirty five to seven, since that their identity. It's not
how they want to play football. So I can't tell
you if you know, with Justin Fields, like you know,
like another quarterbacks are really going to light it up.
And it's not really what they're trying to do, but
I think they's just for Justin. They just wanted to
to be efficient and you know, make plays with the

(52:15):
lags that they need him to and certainly not turn
the ball over. He turns the ball over, then I
can see them making a move. But I don't know that. Again,
I that's that's all hypothetical because if he doesn't, you know,
and he keeps just growing, continue to grow, like they do.
Love Justin Field over there. They love him, they love
him over there, and they could see him being you know,
a future over there. He's but there's certain things he's

(52:36):
still got to grow.

Speaker 3 (52:36):
With Jaye from one former Bears quarterback to what could
have been as the requisited you know, representative of Chicago
on the network. Uh, there's all this Tom Brady talk,
you know, just day after day it's another story, and
now you've got ownership chiming in. How close was this
and why are they taunting me three years later?

Speaker 5 (52:55):
Well, because no one knew about what happened was Brady
did a Tampa game and he was like, hey, here's
actually how I got the Tampa which is why you
want Tom Brady as you're broadcaster. And I don't think
he ever told the story before. He even said that,
like Kevin, I've never said this before. And what he
did was he put it was pretty interesting. And because
Tom and I talked about him separately, he had like

(53:16):
eighteen criteria and then he rated them all I think
it was one of three points or three or five
points or something like that, and then he added them
all up for all the teams that there were like
eight teams and the Bears were right behind. And when
he told me, the Bears were actually off and I
believe more than Tampa, I think. I don't remember what
I think, so, but like just the points that added up.

(53:40):
But no one had heard Chicago before. We knew about
the other seas, you never knew about the Bears. And
that's why. So yeah, that's the great thing about having
Tom Brady on our team now is you're going to
hear stuff like no one ever heard anything about the
Page Nobody. They did a freaking ten part documentary on Apple,
you know, nobody knows about him.

Speaker 1 (54:01):
I mean I tried to talk it into existence all
those years ago, but you know they that clearly fell
on deaf ears and I do know.

Speaker 5 (54:08):
Look it was Ryan Tayson and Matt Maggie were trying
to get this done, and yeah they were. They were
on the radar, but they were a second secting, like
a real stealth second, right behind the Buccaneers.

Speaker 1 (54:20):
He's on Twitter at Jay Glazier. That's at Jay Glazer. Jay,

Speaker 5 (54:31):

and obviously with you know, our couver seven just happening,
also very outspoken. I was like, man, how do you
deal with on social media? Because my feelings get hurt.
