This is the best of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome in side final hour tonight the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. It's funny how
sometimes one game can change everything for you.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
The game within the game.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
And I don't mean like we lose the Super Bowl,
or you know, we lose to the Marlins the last
game of the regular season, so we don't go to
the playoffs, and now sudden we have to spend all
kinds of money and all kinds of players get so embarrassing.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Well, because the Marlins won't because they spend sixty seven million.
Now I'm still up on that page.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Thin.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
We were just talking about baseball salary. Sixty seven point
eight million dollars last year. They collected one hundred and
ten from revenue sharing.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Man up top pirates, spend money, get a couple of
guys around Skeens and let the beast be pro act.
Don't sit here and pull here and open your pockets
and go we have no money, man, We could you know,
anything offered better than a couple of bad seats to
games and poning up the money for that Skiens rookie
card last year with the debut patch in it.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Maybe it would have all been better.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
I mean, if your schemes you win the cy Young
today and you're just sitting here thinking, I'm under team
control until twenty twenty nine. Yeah, it's a long time.
It's not even twenty twenty six. Young kids are going
to start college next fall, finish, and I'm still gonna.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Be a pirate. Yep, still gonna be a pirate.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Aaron Rodgers may still be the quarterback of the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Still gonna be a pirate, Still gonna be there, Still
gonna be there.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Could still go see Livy done for another three hundred.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
And not making any money, just.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Sitting there throwing every five days. That's the worst though,
That's right.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
That's the thing with baseball that like well, whenever a
guy gets a seven hundred million dollar deal, you're like wow,
and people.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Lose their minds, like, no, he paid played for free?
Speaker 5 (02:18):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, you know.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
I always liked the phrase for pictures, uh, toiling in obscurity.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
That's what.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
He was detoiled in obscurity for the Pirates for the
first six years of his.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Career, working on that as a name for my memoir.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
I find it hard to believe he's not going to
just request to trade and say I'm not I'm not
coming back, I'm not, I'm.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
Not after this year. That's it. I'm I'm I'm heading out.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
You gotta deal me somewhere else, because any team would
look because that that's the thing, is that if you're
gonna trade, if you're not gonna if you're not gonna
pay for schemes, then then if you're not gonna pay
to get players around him, then you should trade him.
If you're the Pirates, right, because if you're not gonna
pay for guys, then what are you gonna do. You're
gonna go seventy and ninety two with him, so what
does it matter?
Speaker 2 (03:05):
But it goes?
Speaker 1 (03:05):
So you should trade him because you'll get a ton
for him, absolutely, as opposed to schoolbl where he's gonna
hit free agency. You know, Scott Boris wants three hundred
million dollars for him, four hundred million dollars for him,
that's not a bet. But Skeens is, Oh, we get
him and he's under team control for other three and
a half years. I'll give you the top three prospects
that we have on the team for Paul Skeens, I'll
(03:26):
do that.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
No, That's that's the.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Thing, right is the different ends of the cy Young
rainbow as it were.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Is all right for school.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Bol he's got the three hundred million uh sitting out
there eventually, but it leads leads to uncertainty for the
season and the pressure. But for the Pirates, you know,
right now, with Paul Skeens, we go back to the
thing we always talk about in the NFL is the
wishing and hoping that you figure out your quarterback while
they're under that first contract, right, that they show enough
(03:58):
that's like, all right with a couple of pieces here,
and then we can go win. Like the Bears being
in year two with Caleb Williams, second half of the
season is gonna be difficult. But you know you're not
paying the piper for another couple of years. For Paul Skiings,
you still have until twenty twenty nine under the job. Now,
well you probably cut them off a check to keep
them happy if you acquire them. Yes, but the reality
(04:21):
is you don't have to so far more enticing. But
for the pirates you have no excuse because you're paying
him nothing.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Long time, long time, goud get people, go oud get people.
Michael Keaton will go out and you'll have dinner with
guys and hey, come on, come play for Pittsburgh.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
We need something here.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
More Iron City beer sales.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
I don't know now when we say sometimes one game
changes everything. Right, going into tonight's marquee game of the
night in the NBA, Lakers and the thunder Lakers have
had a big start right eight and two, things were wonderful.
Of course, the champs the champs eleven and one, no
real difficulties at all. But this is a big measuring
(05:01):
stick game for the Lakers, who are feeling good because
they are Luka, Doncic and Austin Reeves driven. Lebron James
when he comes back, is gonna be the number three guy.
If he's smart. He comes in as a number three guy.
He comes in his RS grant. Uh boy, what's what?
We don't need Lebron? Like you know Leno, Lebron wants out.
You know, the Lakers want to move on without him.
(05:22):
You can see that we could we the vision of
our team. Now we are Luca and Austin Reeves driven,
and the fifty million that we're paying Lebron, we're gonna
pay for another player or two to come in and
really be the guy or the last missing piece to
the championship puzzle that we're gonna win with Luca. All Right,
you know both sides they want this, and Laker fans,
(05:43):
I guarantee you seventy percent of all Laker fans are like, yeah,
we don't. I don't want Lebron come back. I don't
want Lebron. He's never been embraced by the Laker fans.
He's never been embraced. He's kind of been held at
at at at arms length by Laker fans. Ran the
team when he and Clutch Sports had a lot of
say now they don't, and Lebron is on the outside
(06:04):
looking it.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Well a little bit of that desperation, but it's always
like the guy that follows the guy you're ever gonna
get really embraced like you're the next big superstar post
Kobe Bryant.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah, it's it's it's not gonna happen, even though you're
the best player in the game. And now going in Okay,
now we got a chance to stake our claim and
show you how good we really are. Right, we have
an eight and two start. Now we have the champs
on the road. We win this game, we'll show you
we don't need lebron and uh, this was no longer
a game. After the three minute mark of the first quarter,
(06:34):
Oklahoma City beats the Lakers one twenty one to ninety two.
And it was worse than that. At halftime. We're up
by forty. At halftime, it was a bit. I think
it was thirty six, maybe thirty six at half time.
It was over at hav like, Okay, we don't need
a game of the night, and we're guys, go do
whatever you want, stay and listen to the show because
we're gonna be entertaining as hell as we always are.
But you know, hey, go do other stuff. You don't
need to worry about this Laker game tonight. Now suddenly
(06:58):
I bet you it's flipped to Okay, now we need
Lebron back. Now what role is different? But now it's
gonna be, oh, we really need Lebron because the Lakers
have shown and another teams that want to be contenders,
whether it's the Lakers or the nixt Jalen Brunson please
be okay, the Pistons, the Spurs, all of these teams
(07:20):
are all good. But you now see the difference between
these teams and these competitors and the thunder Right, it's okay, Yeah,
with the team we have right now, yeah, we can
win or we can win against our peers, and then
the better teams in the league we can win against.
We've won without Luca, We've won without Austin Reeves. He
won when Austin Reeves is doing it by himself. Okay,
(07:41):
we feel pretty good, but you're trying to win a
title and you see the team as it's constructed now
is a far cry from Oklahoma City. So now, okay,
now we need Lebron back. Now you want Lebron back,
and you need them back because you need something else
to try to compete with them. As a season goes
on and and and sometimes one half or one game
(08:02):
of basketball changes everything.
Speaker 5 (08:03):
And that's what happened tonight.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Lebron went from we don't need you, we need you now,
we need you now, now, I need you now, I
need you now, I need you.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
I want you to go to the South Bay Lakers.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
And then get on a plane and then join the
Lakers on the road trip because we need you now,
we need you now, we need you now. But that's
what I and Oklahoma City not the first team that
that that has done this to anybody that had this
done to them by Oklahoma City. Hey, we see how
far away from the champions, but this is this is
a night where the Lakers get Okay, our big start
was great and we're feeling good. Maybe we thought we
were a little bit better than we are, but oh yeah,
(08:33):
getting Lebron back, Yeah, that's gonna be a big thing
for us. And the big question, of course, is gonna
be how awkward is it when he comes back? Does
he come in a big complimentary role. Rick Buker joined
us last hour and said, I'd love for Lebron to
come in and just say, hey, how can I help.
I'm not the number one guy, I know that it's
it's Luca and and and Austin driven now and I'm
gonna be playing someplace else next year. How can I
(08:55):
be a great version and the best version of that?
But Rick Buker, look, I'm not I'm not confident Lebron
can do that. But clearly you need that infusion of
something to be able to compete with the best team
in the NBA that you got to get pass in
the playoffs, and Lebron is clearly going to help you
with that if you get the best version of Lebron James.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Yeah, it's all about buying at this point.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
And we know what we're getting night to night from
Doncic and Reeves on most night. Right, he's been fantastic
to date. But you're talking about how it's going to
change the shots, the minutes, the rotations for everybody else.
You still need another shooter. Well that's not Lebron James,
but that needs to be parsed out for another time.
(09:37):
But where we're sitting at with their record to this point,
and again it's fantastic. You beat who's on the schedule
and you take care of it. But you're looking at
a bunch of middling teams. The best record wise was Minnesota.
They're seven and four, right, Otherwise you're looking at five
hundred or or below for the rest of the opponents
that you've played to this date. So when you go
(09:59):
up an got thumped by Atlanta a couple of games back, right,
that was one of those body blows that wakes up. Right,
everybody's got a plan till you get punched in the face, like, oh, okay,
Atlanta again got us, but they rebounded, they win against Charlotte,
and then tonight's game against OKC was just a bludgeting.
(10:19):
This was Connor McGregor. This was Ronda Rousey at her best.
This was Mike Tyson. Thirty seconds in, you're bloodied, you're
on in the mat and someone's got to throw the
damn towel because you are done. Hey, and some guy
that who's getting his nachos didn't get to see the
fight at all, which was the opening what was it
about three and a half minutes and I was like, ah,
(10:40):
you know, Luca did that euro step and one oh
look at him and that that was the last highlight. Otherwise,
it was a lot of sad looking Laker players as
they absolutely got bloodied, pilled a post. Now you got
a game against at New Orleans, at Milwaukee, and then
a couple of games against Utah home and road for that.
But for Lebron James, it's what does his ego take?
(11:03):
Does he recognize it still? Does he look at this
as the opportunity to say, clearly they still are that
far away? And for the Lakers on a larger scale,
what's the ultimate goal in this this season? You know,
it's easy to say, oh, championship or bust, but the
reality of trying to figure out where you are in
(11:24):
the Western Conference?
Speaker 1 (11:25):
I see, I think it has become championship or buss,
just because you've seen how quickly Luca and Austin Reeves
have come together as the present and future of the Lakers.
Like whoa the Lakers starting out eight and three, they
would have never thought this without Lebron. And if I
told you, hey, here the first eleven games of the year,
Luca's gonna miss a couple, Austin Reeves is gonna miss
(11:45):
a couple. Lebron's gonna miss all of them. You're saying, man,
if we're four and seven, five and six, we feel
pretty happy about that. Missing those guys instead eight and three. Whoa, Okay,
so I think because of the start, yeah, they've ramped
up expectation, but.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
It's still also that conversation of Lebron fitting in. How
much is that worth? You know, on a per game basis?
Is he going to stay healthy? Is Lucas staying healthy
just because he's leaner and meaner. I mean there's injuries
in his history. Austin reeves he gonna keep shooting like
he does and put up thirty points a game. I
know he's motivated by a massive contract. I mean, that's
(12:21):
the greatest thing you can have. And they should put
it in the newspaper. You know, the old black and
white cartoons of here's you know, Polinka and everybody with
the dangling and the carrot on the stick. Keep shooting
Austin to go get your one hundred million dollars. But
it's just tonight was just so abysmal. They're like, now
(12:42):
you're trying to figure out and evaluate where you really
are in the packing order.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
And you know, I always say Lebron does everything calculated, sure, right,
and here he is sitting through the first ten games.
Go boy, they're great without me When am I gonna
come back? And I've told you he's gonna come back
when he knows when the Lakers hit the skids or
when it's the best point where they.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Need him, that siren goes off.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
And I don't think there's any coincidence that today on
the road against Oklahoma City, he has to know, Okay,
as great a start as we at, we're probably gonna
get killed tonight. Lebron practiced today with the South Bay Lakes.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
I'm with the Gague team twelve to fifteen five on
five possessions coming back from Sciatica.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Today's the day he started to practice. That's just still fun.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
On the same day that at night they get killed
by Oklahoma City and suddenly, hey, maybe we need Lebron
right like any he could have gone any day, any day,
but this the day I'm at back practicing now and
then we lose because I know we're gonna lose tonight,
Like I realized, I can't help but think that that's
part of what goes on, just because everything is calculated
(13:53):
with him, every single thing.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
All the machine gets put back into into service.
Speaker 5 (13:59):
Today.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
JJ Reddick had his comments talking about the workout that
Lebron got in earlier today with the South Bay Lakers
there and Elsagundo. Since you're just doing a workout and
you're not like on a minor league reabstent, do you
buy lunch?
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Still?
Speaker 4 (14:14):
Isn't that kind of okay? So those guys at least
ate well today there in the South Bay. But it'll
be curious to see how quickly this gets ramped up,
you know, especially coming off of this game. Now the
schedule coming forward, Like I said, you got Milwaukee in there,
but otherwise it's New Orleans and a couple of games
against Utah. Perhaps you could do a slower ramp up
(14:35):
to get him back in with his cape. But we
got to figure out what hero theme that you want
to put under the music bed.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
I think his music should be Let's see the return
of Lebron, Return of the King, I would say we
put in.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
I mean Rebirth of the Cool would be good by
the Afghan Whigs. I would say five hundred miles by
the Proclaimers.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
By the Proclaimers, he would walk five hundred mile to
be the man that would walk five hundred miles to
save the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
You can get a really good sing along with the
crowd too Light Light Light Light at dum.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Yeah it works d dum.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
So now you're gonna take it down into a jazzy
blues breakdown.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Of it Light Light Light at Dumb, The remix of
The Proclaimers.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Fox Sports Radio, The Joke Boy Show with My Best
Tried by Carver. One game sometimes can change everything in
one game. Change the Lakers desire to have Lebron James
back tonight against Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Didn't do the same for the New York Knicks.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
D D.
Speaker 1 (15:44):

Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best Friend,
Mike Harmon, Hugh, Aaron Rodgers, Nicoleo gets fifty five points tonight,
double nickel and the Nuggets win over the Clippers. No
defense could stop him, not even when a fan ran
on the court to play defense and the game had
to be stopped and the guy ran away.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
From a couple of security guards before he finally got caught.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
The fan runs on the floor to play defense as
they're bringing the ball.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
That might be my favorite.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
Like usually we get knuckleheads running around and other than
Kevin Harlan's famous call that you and I watch on
a loop when football season first comes back, because like
it's back and Kevin Harlan's back, right, that guy's drunk
and very tested and all of that. He's pair of
chested chest. Yeah, he's drunk in there he goes. We
(17:25):
celebrate that, but usually it's just a guy runs, tries
to do evade, eventually gets tackled. Here the guy wanted
to step up and play some defense. He was trying
to show the Clippers how it was done. The only
thing I was disappointed obviously don't run on the court.
But I can't believe no one's run.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
On the court, like in a jersey, like in the
jersey right, like wearing a sneaker.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Ran we're the wrong color?
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Scheme long like how long could you get on the
court floor for before people would notice?
Speaker 5 (17:53):
Would you get ten seconds?
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Could you get in the layup line before a game?
Speaker 1 (17:58):
You probably could get in the layup line if you
wear you know, you wear the warm up suit, and
everything else may be take be taken lay up. You
probably could do that. Who's this dude? He must be
all right, he must be mist That's fine.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
What do you do?
Speaker 1 (18:10):
I mean you have to be you have to look
like it, like a player. You can't just be like,
you know, hey, I'm five to one and and I'm
trying to get out here, Like you have to be
tall and thin and and and look like you can finish.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Sure way way to eliminate the popular what I'm.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Saying, Like, Okay, if you're five nine like me, you know,
five nine, I mean you're not getting you're not getting undergoing, Dude,
this guy is not a player.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
You go full sets.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
I don't care how dressed you are.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
But if you're like six five six six and you
have an athletic build, like I wonder if you could
do that if we just picked this guy up, get
on the court. Wow, he's being on the injured list
for a while. Okay, all right, that's all right, interesting,
that's great. I always remember the guy that that made
a living in the seventies getting into games and like
and and and and.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
Getting into into the World Series game. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
And he actually got on the on the field for
the team picture at the seventy seven or seventy eight
All Star Game. It was in the Kingdome and he
was wearing National League whatever he was he's wearing or
you know where whatever all Star uniform with a you know,
wearing his team's hat and everything. And he got on
the field and people knew he was he was a impostor.
And Lesorda saw him and there's video I don't know
(19:19):
if it's still out there of him just blankety blanking
the guy. Hey, you blagetty Blanke, Get the blankety blague
off the field.
Speaker 5 (19:25):
With the Blakeety Blake, do you think you're doing?
Speaker 1 (19:28):
The guy's like okay, and everybody's laughing because this guys
just trying to get out there for the team photo
like I'm getting on here and I'm in an exposed
uniform or whatever it was, and uh and let it
just comes to hey, hey, he's just screaming at the guy.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
I remember Losorda screaming at people to raise money for charity.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
That's all you're gonna give to our veterans?
Speaker 5 (19:46):
What are you doing?
Speaker 7 (19:48):
So?
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Yeah, I'm sure that guy did not get off easy. No, no, no, no,
least tried to play defense a little bit. That's okay,
let's try to play defense.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Uh. Now, what happened today with the Philadelphia Eagles and
everyone's favorite underachieving receiver?
Speaker 5 (20:04):
A J. Brown?
Speaker 2 (20:05):
I'm sorry? Was that was that? Was that too on
the nose? Super Bowl Chimp?
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Is that too on the nose? I think it was
was right on the is he disappointment?
Speaker 5 (20:14):
I hit that right?
Speaker 2 (20:15):
I need to write about him this week for bid
on Fantasy Bros.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Underachieving and and and uh and disappointment A J.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
Brown?
Speaker 1 (20:23):
He goes on Twitch because why should Blake Snell have
all the fun and talks about his season and how
outside of life, which is going well for him, you know,
his football life basically is a blank show. Uh. Here
he is talking about it today on his Twitch stream.
Take a listen.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Everything good, like you know what I'm saying, everything straight,
you know what I'm saying, mental good, kids good?
Speaker 5 (20:44):
What I'm saying, wife good?
Speaker 7 (20:45):
Everything?
Speaker 3 (20:45):
No trimm.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
Like I still got you.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
I'm saying you know what like yeah, yeah, yeah, everything else?
Speaker 2 (21:02):
No, everything gonna click shoe.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
My life is a blank show. Have you been by
You ever been going well? Have you been watching? You've
been paying attention. I don't get any passes and now
you know he tried to throw me a pass on
fourth down that even go for on Monday night, and
now all of a sudden there's all kinds of questions
about that. So you have AJ Brown doing this Twitch
stream basically saying listen, it's this, this is awful.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
It's terrible. My life sucks.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
UH football life, My football life sucks.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Also on the day where a couple of Philadelphia radio
UH insiders and and hosts say that they heard that
Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown went rogue on that final
fourth down play on Monday Night where aj Brown doesn't
really go for the ball and on fourth and six,
Jalen Hurts throws it deep. And that wasn't the first
(21:56):
time they've gone rogue on plays. It's explain why Nick
Sirianni was upset and want to talk about it after
the game. We talked, what the hell are you doing
going for it on fourth down? That stupid But now
allegedly you have your quarterback wide receiver. Your guys are
going rogue right now. I have two thoughts on this,
and both can be true at the same time. Okay,
number one, I can't believe the Eagles are seven and two.
(22:18):
I can't with the daily dysfunction that they bathe in.
They don't just walk up to the well of dysfunction
and take a sip. No, No, they walk up, they
take off their shirts, and they get in and they
bathe in it, and they make sure. I'm rubbing all
the I'm rubbing all the dysfunction on my arms, I'm
cleaning under my under my arm pits.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
I'm using it as shampoo.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
And then I'm gonna sit here after and I'm just
gonna soak in the tub of dysfunction. That's what the
Eagles do. I can't believe they're seven and two at
the disfunction by Jason Smith. At the same time, at
the same time, I am unbelievably impressed that they can
win like this. Yeah, you're piscause you're the dysfunction because
(22:58):
the Jets can't win in that function. We have it,
we can't win it. The Giants can't win that dysfunction.
Nobody can. But the Eagles can win Super Bowls. While
AJ Brown is reading on the sideline, they could be
seven and two when they should have traded the guy
and gone and get a wide receiver at the deadline,
which hey, Howie Roseman, we were playing GM from three
thousand miles away. That's gonna wind up being the worst.
(23:19):
And the Eagles did not moving on from AJ Brown.
We said it before the deadline. Last year, you got
by because you didn't know how it was gonna go.
This year, you knew it was going bad, and still
you didn't go out and get a receiver and move
on from AJ Brown, who's really persona on grod in
the offense, not getting targets, not getting attention. But he's
the guy that hurts. They decide we're gonna go deep
on this, like all this dysfunction, and still they win. Man, Like, yes,
(23:43):
I don't know how they're seven and two, but I
respect the hell out of the fact that they could
still win bathing in the dysfunction that they do.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
I'm gonna look into getting a custom bar as soap
made that's carved dysfunction.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
You know what I feel. You have to figure out
what the scent is.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
But when I think about the eagles, I think about
like the movies you get into where the scientists are
in the spacesuits and they're in this room with a
really contagious alien or weapon or something, and they have
to leave the room and go on in air lock and
they just get bombarded by water and ammonia and whatever
(24:19):
it is to kill all the all the bacteria. Then
they go into another room where they get rinsed off
and it's all the water. Like, I feel like that's
what the eagles bathing in dysfunction. It's they come out
of that room, they get into the one room where
they get hit with all the stuff that kills the
cells and kills the aliens. Then they get doused in
all the watertaminated multiple times. That's the Philadelphia Eagles. I really,
(24:41):
I respect the hell out of the fact that they
can win with that when nobody else can.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
And they're seven and two.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
A lot of talent in that room, obviously defending champs.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
And the funny thing.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
Is with the record that they've put up on either
side of the ball, you can't say that they've been
overly impressive at any point, right. Jalen Hurts has some
good numbers overall, right, when you just break them down,
not world beating, but the touchdowns, the interception ratio, big plays, whatever.
Saquon Barkley's got one one hundred yard rushing game on
(25:13):
the year at this point. Aj Brown, if those are
two guys in a conspiracy theory, it blows apart in
a conspiracy, I should say it blows apart that theory
because he never looks for the.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Ball, like if he was in on it. How does
he not look back over his shoulder at any point.
He's not even twisting as the ball hits him squarely
in the back. Now, he said this to reporters on Wednesday,
quote after the game, I sent all the right answers,
and y'all still made a story in that moment where
I'm just talking to my friend having fun about apologizing
(25:46):
for that.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
If you have eyes, you can see that. And so
it's not like I'm throwing anybody under the bus. I'm
literally trying to laugh through this blank. This blank is tough,
but I'm trying to make fun of the situation and
try to get through it. And that's thing right, Big
games where he was targeted a bunch and really had
an impact for your fantasy squad and for the Eagles
and everybody in the box score. Now, him being out
(26:09):
there and running routes while you don't want him to
be little more than a decoy and someone that the
defenses at least have to pay attention to. Well, if
that's the worst of it, they're seven and two.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
It's amazing, amazing.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
And your guy, Siriani, somehow he just keeps dancing along.
Speaker 5 (26:28):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
But it also shows the dysfunction and problems that we
have across the conference and across the NFL as a whole.
I love him all two hundred and seventy two games.
There's a couple that are lesser than that. We talk
about each and every week, like all the primetime games
for the last week. But I think we're at a
point we can all honestly assess the NFL and while
(26:51):
there are special players and special teams on a week
to week basis, the overall product kind of sucks.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Yeah, a lot of teams that are just right.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
We look at the games we've just seen on national
television and we're getting the Jets tomorrow night.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
You want it or not? Jet tomorrow. Yeah, that'll be exciting.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
But but it's just that point, right, is that there's
a lot of teams where we point we we normally
at this point in the year, can go. These are
the contendent We've talked about with Jason Cole before I go,
who's actually good?
Speaker 2 (27:23):
And he had to bo who you trust?
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Josh Allen, like you again, you trust individual players that
they're gonna rise up to a moment, but will their
teams match it? Great theater exit out about a Fresco exit,
swelling down the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike harmon time how to find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports, and someone who's been called
the justin fields of Fox Sports Radio because tomorrow night,
(27:47):
working here with us, she will throw for as many
yards as Justin Fields will for the Jets. It's Manci
Belaga Sacks, Sacks, I may throw for more. Uh yeah,
well he did have minus two weeks ago.
Speaker 8 (28:00):
Yeah, okay, there's a chance.
Speaker 9 (28:03):
I'm saying there's a chance without throwing a pass, without
throwing a pass.
Speaker 8 (28:06):
Yeah, I like that.
Speaker 9 (28:08):
Not for you, Not for you and your juts, not enough, Well,
I expecting one. Are the chances that they pull off
this upset?
Speaker 2 (28:13):
What's less than zero?
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Great?
Speaker 8 (28:16):
What is the amount of your arts that j Justin
Field has?
Speaker 2 (28:19):
We just watched that movie instead.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Honestly, I'm just hoping tomorrow night, it's not a meme
worthy loss, like we just lose Garden Variety. Sure, we
lose by a couple of touchdowns, not like something happens
on the totally. People are gonna make fun of this
for the rest of it.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
I'm gonna be screen grab an Aaron Glenn every time
they show him.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
I'm just hoping I'm gonna make it memeable no matter what.
Speaker 5 (28:40):
I don't think he's gonna dance like he did against
the Bucks. I don't think that's happening.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
But just have a nice boring loss tomorrow night. That's
all I'm opening.
Speaker 8 (28:46):
Yeah, you know, the Clippers didn't have a boring loss
to it.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
I wish it were excited.
Speaker 8 (28:50):
Yeah, thank you so much for that.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
If they allowed the fan to continue to play defense,
maybe they would have stopped Yoka from scoring fifty five.
Speaker 9 (28:55):
Or twenty five in the first quarter. Yeah, like it
started from the get go. You know again, Nicola Yogas
doesn't look like he's trying out there.
Speaker 8 (29:01):
He looks upset.
Speaker 9 (29:02):
He dropped fifty five points to go along with twelve rebounds,
six assists. Nuggets outscore the Clippers one thirty to one sixteen.
Denver has won six in a row. La has lost
six in a row. Prior to the game, the Clippers
did announced did announce that Kawhi Leonard didn't just sprain
his ankle, he also suffered a significant foot spring, so
they will evaluate him next week. Victor Ion Banyama and
(29:24):
Stefan Castle both at a triple double.
Speaker 8 (29:26):
It didn't matter.
Speaker 9 (29:26):
The Warriors defeated the Spurs in San Antonio one twenty
five to one twenty where Steph Curry dropped forty six points.
Thunder blew out the Lakers one twenty one to ninety two.
Luka Doncic had nineteen points. He was He was seven
of twenty from the field. La also had twenty turnovers.
The Magic handed the knickser first loss of the season
at home, coming out on top one twenty four to
(29:47):
one oh seven.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Second night of back to back correct understand, understand fair.
Speaker 8 (29:51):
Jalen Brunson suffered an ankle injury in the final minutes
of the game. Was seen leaving in a walking boot
and on crutches.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Yeah, okay, it wasn't fair.
Speaker 8 (30:03):
I get it. No, listen, I under I don't think
it's fair either.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
I think you lost a couple of fingers in an ear.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
Yeah, it was bad.
Speaker 8 (30:11):
You think it's not fair. I don't think it's fair.
I don't think Mavericks fans think anything's fair.
Speaker 9 (30:15):
The Suns beat the Mavericks today one twenty three to
one fourteen, Devin Booker twenty six points. There, Anthony Davis
missed his seventh straight game and his return date is
up in the air. Apparently, Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont has
requested medical information to make sure that he is not
at risk of aggravating The Caps strain that has had
him out. Pistons have won eight in a row. They
topped the Bulls, won twenty four to one thirteen. Cavaliers
(30:35):
outscored the Heat won thirty to one sixteen. It was
Miami's first loss at home in the NHL. The final
games Devil's over the Blackhawks four to three, and overtime Mammoth.
Speaker 8 (30:43):
Outscored the Sabers five to two.
Speaker 9 (30:46):
Baseball Tigers pitcher Trek Scouoble Pirates pitcher Paul Skeen's they
are the National well, the National League and American League
Cy Young Award winners, so congratulations to them. Livy Dunn
was there. Paul Skeins looked more excited this time around
than when he won the Rookie of the Year, where
you know it was only Livy Dunn celebrating in the
red dress. He seems a little bit more excited this
(31:07):
time one.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
You're closer to leaving.
Speaker 5 (31:09):
That's fine.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
I'd be excited to.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
Get it activate a huge bonus that doubled his salary.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
I only have to win three more so Youngs before
I get to add another inscription. That's one hundred bucks
a pop for every autograph I signed.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
At a show this weekend. I'm excited.
Speaker 8 (31:24):
That makes a little bit more sense. It's correct, all right.
Speaker 5 (31:27):
Thanks you guys, Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
You'll make more money out of convention than he does.
From what the Pirates fan. Now, I should point this out.
We were talking about Moncey maybe having more passing yards, yeah,
than Dustin filt Shore. I'm on a website and looking
at a book that has no prop bets for his
passing or rushing. No, nothing having to do with justin Field.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Nope.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Just to put that out there. We don't know who's
going to actually quarterback. I can't wait to see.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
You can't do it.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome. Jason Smith
Mike Harmon Live from the Fox Sports Radio two is
coming up next. Two big stories out of the NBA,
an update on a huge injury, and Lucas speaks about
Nico Harrison getting fired by the MAVs. You'll hear it next,
Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Two big NBA stories to get to.
And I really think that Tom Thibodeau came back and
coached the Knicks tonight at the end because Mike Brown
did something that's absolutely unforgivable on the second night of
(32:46):
back to backs. Jalen Brunson, heavy minutes last night, heavy
minutes tonight. Look, he never has a non heavy minute game. No,
his minutes are heavy.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
It's a lot of minutes, but it's stressful minutes because
away in style in which he played.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
Like him and Luca like nobody. They don't have non
stressful minutes. Right, everything is stressful. Second night of back
to backs. Early, you're losing by sixteen with under two
minutes left to go. You get Jalen Brunson out of
the game, you get Karl Anthony Towns out of the game.
It's not your night, right, second night at back. I'm
not saying, hey, they should have won. It's awfulmbarrassing, it's no.
(33:23):
You know I feel about back to backs. They're stupid.
But you get him out of the game at that point,
it's not like you're within eight or six. No, you're
down by sixteen, you get Jaylen Brunson out of the
game because you want to make sure something like this
doesn't happen.
Speaker 10 (33:39):
Inside two minutes to go and Brunson another foul drawn
and he immediately grabs his right leg.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Oh boy, that right leg.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Oh man.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Man, Mike Brown wants to get him out. Oh no,
he wants to get him right.
Speaker 8 (33:57):
So the Knicks batch after he got out.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Back to the locker room to get that looked at.
Speaker 5 (34:04):
Now he wants to get him out of the game
next TV. Now, I'm gonna get him out, dude.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Come on, That's something I expect Tims to do it.
Just last night we were saying, boy, you know what
Mike Brown is doing. He's got Mical Bridges playing the
best he's played. Karl Anthony Towns has bought in, and
he's playing the bench guys right, He's got the guys
coming in. They're playing good minutes. It's terrific so far.
And then Jalen Brunson, for reasons passing understanding, is in
the game where you're down sixteen with less than two
(34:29):
minutes left to go, he should have been out of
that game two minutes before that, not that Oh, here's
the time he should have called time. They should have
been out of that game, right, okay, second night, back
to backs. Everything I've said shouldn't be in the game.
And now he's in and he's seen leaving MSG in
a walking boot on crutches.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
Like what But you know you can't get hit to
change the style. You can't just say he distribute from
the top of the key. No, if he's got an
opportunity to drive, he's gonna drive. And in this case
that's why. So he should be driving from the bench
while he's watching. That's what he should be doing. Well,
now he can't even drive. He's gotta have someone to
show for him around. I'll tell you, because now he's
on crutches. But you have this circumstance where he drives
(35:10):
in and catches, and Carter knew it immediately, like his
his leg gets in and they get tangled in that
moment and he steps on his foot and goes down,
and you could just see Carter like I didn't I
didn't push him, I didn't put his hands up and
down goes bruntson sixteen point game under two minutes.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
This isn't football where it's like all right, we're gonna
go in.
Speaker 4 (35:30):
We're gonna score where I at the you know, goal line,
and if we can execute an on side kick or
get a quick defensive stop, we got a shot.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
No, no, there's like a nine possession game.
Speaker 5 (35:41):
Like what are you doing?
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Man?
Speaker 5 (35:43):
Like, we're like, what are you doing? Mike Brown? Like,
what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (35:46):
He just lost all that good will he built up.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
Gotta like you gotta go back and scrub the podcast
from yesterday for all the good things you said.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Oh yeah, no, no, no, we're back to zero some now,
you and me, Mike Brown, I was a guy. I
was the first guy to say Mike Brown's the next
head coach of the next I was right there when
they fired Tibbs. I said two guys, and Mike Brown
was one of them. He got the job.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
Now we're in zero some now.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Now we're back to even now because you did that,
no one thinks it comes a fifteen game loss like
you have. Don't put more of that stuff out in
the universe.
Speaker 5 (36:14):
What happened last time? Just say he's gonna be good
and back in the next game they play. What are
you doing? Why you say his fifteen games?
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Now?
Speaker 5 (36:20):
Why would you put that out there. I don't you
even say.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
That because there was precedent last year. I feel like,
un Tom Tibdau, I want to say, like Alreadie lang
in elf, how'd you like to be dead?
Speaker 5 (36:28):
I mean, come on, and what are you doing.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
The holiday season? What are you gonna do that season?
Speaker 4 (36:35):
And you know the radio flips happened in Los Angeles
in like twenty four hours.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
Here cayy doc and uh. Meanwhile, the day after the
Nico Harrison era ended in Dallas, Dallas got to play
tonight lose again, but just be happy that you don't
have to chant fire Nico anymore at games because he's
been fired. So Nico gets let go? What is Luca
(37:01):
dons a chap to think about this? He's had plenty
of time to tonight because you know, he didn't have
to worry about the game after the first quarter because
the Lakers got boat raced by fifty against the thunder.
But here is Luca asked following the game about, Hey,
your opinion, Nico Harrison traded, you got let go? And
here is Luca Danc's response to the biggest NBA story
the last twenty four hours.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
And seeing the news of his firing.
Speaker 7 (37:24):
Look, I mean, just Siria, Dallas defense players, they always
have a special place in my heart, and I thought
I was going to stay there forever, but I didn't.
So there'll always be a special place for me always
I can call it home. But right now, focus on
(37:45):
the Lakers, you know, trying to move on, but obviously
always is going to be part of me in there.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
But just trying to move on.
Speaker 7 (37:55):
Focus on what we're doing.
Speaker 10 (37:56):
Here with Niko now gone, and you obviously have a
lot of fans back in Dallas. Is there a world
in which you could ever see yourself playing for that
franchise ever again?
Speaker 2 (38:07):
Perhaps one day down the road.
Speaker 7 (38:10):
Right now, I'm just focusing the Lakers, man Like, there's
no further comments.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
That's a gutsy question. Could you ever play for the
Mavericks again? Who is that?
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (38:21):
That's Nico Harrison asking that question.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
Do you think do you think you can take some
time to heal and maybe maybe someday look.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
At no more questions like you asked me, well why
you asked me once? And I answered, I didn't give
you the answer you wanted, but I can say.
Speaker 5 (38:35):
Whatever I want.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
No, he d answered and then the.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
Second question, Okay, no more question, no more questions. Could
you ever go back to Dallas again? I have That
is a ballsy question, man, that is a really ballsy question.
Speaker 5 (38:46):
I have a sneaking suspicion.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Luca's answers off the air are a tad bit different
from this. Hey, I've always Dallas will always have a
special place in my heart.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
This is one of those where I really hope he
recorded the conversations for his own amusement over how things
went down with ownership and as we talked with Rick Muker,
find it in the podcast. Wherever you get your audio downloaded,
give it five stars, send it to friends and family.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
We'll love you.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
Forever, you know, calling him the fall guy right, well,
when you get down to it.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
And that's the end, to be the messenger.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
And that's what we talked about last night, is that
go back to this trade and you can you can
rip the trade for not working out. And we talked
about how, hey, it's maybe the gutsiest trade the last
twenty years because Nico Harrison knew if it fails and
Lucas you know, straightens up with the Lakers, which could
happen because the trade would get his attention. That's a
real possibility. But remember things weren't great with Luca and
(39:41):
the Mavericks at that point. He wasn't on the court,
he wasn't playing. They were looking at having to give
him three hundred million dollars like it wasn't all sunshine,
lollipops and rainbows. And one day that that Nico Harrison
woke up and just said, hey, We're gonna trade Luca.
Things were not great. So I know you want to
have this Pollyanna opinion that well, if he stayed in Dallas,
everything would be awesome. No, it wasn't and he might
(40:02):
not be playing now, he might be out. He might
have not taken care of his body, Like this was
a result that you knew going to a new team.
This might make you open your eyes to where you are,
but it probably wasn't gonna happen in Dallas and it
would still be more of the same, meaning what it
was a year ago. We get to the finals, but
now I'm not taking care of my body and I'm hurt,
and they had to move on from it. Well.
Speaker 4 (40:23):
He played twenty two games with the Mavericks before the
trade deadline was unavailable. Yeah, and the other thing that
had to happen, and it's the third shoe to drop
in this. Yeah, you got Cooper flag, so that bought
you a little bit of goodwill. But everybody else that
was part of the building plan has been hurt and
is unavailable for you to where ownerships monitoring what Anthony
(40:46):
Davis is doing. Exit Abata Fresca, Exit swollen Dome. For Mike,
I'm Jason. This is the Jason Smith Show here at
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (40:54):
Tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Jets Patriots, please watch.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
The game anyway. Ken Mallard's coming up now. X this
is Fox Sports Radio.
