Mike and I love putting that content up for something
brand new that's out there now. We started to really
get into this week getting stuff up there, so please
check it out if you get a chance. Meanwhile, I
just want to say this because I'm gonna keep saying
it the more it happens. Is that, you know, because
I don't. I don't well, I shouldn't say that. I
don't want to say this, but I feel like I

(01:22):
I I kind of have.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
To never stand in front of the pulling guard. No, no, no, no,
no advice you know.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
I when when I gave you beginning of the pre
in the preseason of the NBA, right because I'm on
a long shot heater, right, long shot heater, I said,
Colts in the in the spring when they got Daniel Jones,
I said he's gonna win the job. Colts long shot
super Bowl team. Look where they are, right, No.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
You're feeling pretty good right now, feeling good? You're looking
for someone to buy that out? But yes, before before, yeah,
oh absolutely? But but am I looking to win the bet?
Am I looking to make money on it?

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Right? There was? It was a moneymaker, money maker.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Before the NBA season began, I gave you a West
Coast sant Ant Spurs, watch out. Wemby's going to become
the best player in the game. So far, things are
okay for They've lost a couple of things are okay
for the Spurs. Who did I give you in the
Eastern Conference at fifty to one, I said, watch out
for the Detroit Pistons, young putting it together. Still not

(02:17):
healthy yet they weren't healthy last year. They have now
won nine in a row after tonight. They know how
to get it done on NBA Cup Night. This is
not a Pistons team that shows up on the NBA
Cup Night and says, yeah, we're mailing it in, No.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
No, No.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Nine in a row for the Pistons, first place in
the Eastern Conference. It has been some sort of start
to the season for the Pistons.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Detroit Basketball eleven and two, seven and one at home.
He had a big effort from Maxi thirty one points
in a losing effort, two of eleven from three point range,
thirteen of thirty one from the field. Yeah, you're you're
looking at a an overall effort for this Piston squad.

(03:03):
They play balance basketball. They got some good bench work
from Stuart and LeVert. Both had fourteen off the bend. So, yeah,
you got your Detroit prediction. Didn't you predict them to
go really far like three years ago?

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Though? Right that doesn't matter. It doesn't matter.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Because I mean, you got banned from the Greater Detroit area.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
It doesn't matter. But now I'm back.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
But now I'm back because I told Tay Pistons, hey
long shot fifty to one going to the finals.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Git ready? You know what? The best story out of
the NBA.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
And by the way, Steph Curry with a couple of
free throws late to take down Wemby in the nightcap
on Prime again, one of those you know you've got
to have all a giant scorecard for where you can
watch games on this hallowed Cup night. But the best
story from the NBA came from rookie Kinneppel. He had
his entire team over for a pasta dinner last night,

(03:55):
so mom and everybody welcomed them to the house.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Well, and he had a big night tonight. So I
think he's got to have people overevery. You gotta have
possas inners every night.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Seems like that, right, They went old school, like you
were on a traveling baseball team or high school squad.
Hey dinners at their house, and so he was all
excited to have everybody in his house.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
I'm gonna show you my old room.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Look at the posters I have at you guys, I
was up there. I gotta post you up in this room.
Look at my fat heeadh. So again we got more
basketball on the way later on this hour again NBA
Cup Night, Pete.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Some teams know how to get it done.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
But football Friday continues and a couple of big games.
We're gonna take a look at the biggest game of
the two best teams in the NFL squaring off against
each other this week, but a game on Sunday that
has ramifications much much deeper than wins losses, And it
comes to the point of this is gonna wind up
being the next coach getting fired in the NFL. We

(04:59):
told you going into last week, Raheem Morris. If the
Falcons lay an absolute egg overseas against Colts, he's done.
Because this offense is too talented to be this bad. Right,
They've only scored thirteen more points in the Saints. Right,
They're too good to be this bad, right, Pennix Junior.
You gotta figure out a way, London, Bijon Robinson, Kyle Pitts.

(05:23):
There's too much talent on this team for them to
be this bad offensively. But they didn't get killed last week.
It wasn't embarrassing, so he lives to fight another day.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
But ah, here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
After the Penis Junior controversy this week, man, he might
this might be his final game. You had Penix in
an interview setting say that he doesn't get any help
from anybody.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Right.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
He was asked, hey, who gives you advice? Who helps
you out with stuff when you need to talk about
football stuff right on the field stuff, And he said, yeah,
nobody really talks to me about that, Like I talked
to my fiance. Some coaches call me whoa, whoa? The
coaches the Atlanta Falcons coaches don't call you. They don't
they don't help you. Wait a minute, Wait a minute,
this is a pretty big deal this week and now today.

(06:09):
Raheem Morris, head coach of the Falcons, stepped up and
gave a ridiculous statement by saying that the misrepresented comments
by Michael Pennock Junior make this situation into a joke.
Like wait, misrepresented. He said, nobody gives him help. They said,
who helps you? He said, nobody gives me help. Morris saying, quote,

(06:29):
stop looking for stuff on a young man. You don't
need this stuff on him. It is what it is. Uh, okay,
time out. Nobody's looking for stuff on Michael Pennock Junior.
And I think Raheem Morris knows this. How do I
tilt this away from the spotlight being on me? Because
this is on the head coach. When the quarterback says
I don't get help from people, Hey, head coach, why

(06:51):
are you not helping him? And here's Raheem Morris doing
the ridiculous Oh what are you doing to Michael Pennock shooting?

Speaker 3 (06:56):
No?

Speaker 1 (06:57):
He said that completely unprompted. Unprompted, he said, no one
else helps me. Now, whatever the controversy is, I expected
this week, Okay, Michael Pennix is going to say something
and the Falcons will say something. When Penix was asked
about it to practice today, he refused to talk about it,
didn't want to say anything on camera, just said, you

(07:17):
know what, everyone on the Falcons facility knows the truth.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
And then it was Morris and the coaches who had
to say we talked to him all the time. Again,
what are the coaches said? I talked to I talked
to him more than I talked to my wife, So
I mean I don't talk about We talked to Michael
Penix Junior all the time. You can you can feel
the panic in Atlanta with this statement, right, you can
feel it. He had a chance to tamp down something
that he started and he declined.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
To do so.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
How much security do you really think Raheem Morris has
they lose to the to the Panthers this week in
a in a year where hey, there's not a lot
of there's not a lot of strength at the bottom
of the playoff picture right now in the NFC, it's
really top heavy, the top three, fourteens, but you have
those last couple of wild cards. Yeah, you would have

(08:02):
seven losses, but you know, hey at the Cowboys at
three and five, at three, five and one, can hey
we're in the playoff.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
You can still be in that playoff, in that playoff run.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
I don't know that he makes it past this week
if they lose to the to the Panthers and their
lack of offense, and it's somebody else coaching and it's
a different just a different voice, a different direction forward
for the Falcons. Yeah, they'd probably make the move at
the end of this year. But you don't have to
give the rest of the season away, like it's still
there for you because you look at those teams that

(08:32):
at five, six seven records in the NFC, it's not great.
You still have you still have a long way left
to get to ten and seven or nine and eight
and get it. Nine and eight might get you in
in the NFC this year. So yeah, if you're looking
at who's the next guy that could be let go, Yeah,
especially after this week, it's Raheem.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Morris Falcons three and a half point favorites at home
forty two and a half your total. Carolina won the
first matchup thirty to nothing at this point, even though
he was limited in capacity the first couple of weeks
splitting time with Chuba Hubbard. At this point, Rico Dwell
has more rushing yards than Vijon Robinson. Just kind of
throw that out there for you, and I think about

(09:11):
this situation. Remember the Susan Ross episode the Foundation on
Seinfeld Wick Fayer as played by Bruce Davison, and Costanza's
trying to make his argument for why the kids should
get the scholarship. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, and he goes,
these aren't standardized tests, these are as great.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
That's kind of what I feel is happening here, like
nobody's you know, reading.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
Into alleged statement. Third part, you know, playing a game
of telephone. Michael Pennick's junior stood in front of a
microphone and had those quotes when asked who he leans
into and who provides support. Didn't talk about Zach Robinson,
didn't talk about his quarterbacks coach, sure as hell, didn't
mention Kirk Cousins, and didn't mention Rahee Morris.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
He's on an island.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
He's got his fiancee and people from his football past.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Yeah, high school coaches called me because he mentioned coaches, right,
he mentioned He didn't say if everything was personal, like, oh,
I talked to my fiance but members of my family
were friends. Okay, he know, he said, I have high
school coaches.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
That call me. Whoa man, whoa whoa. That's badly.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
Carolina gets over at home and we're talking about another
coaching change.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Woh to start the new week.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Now, game of the week in the NFL. Oh, don't worry,
We'll get to Kansas City and Denver. But the game
of the week in the NFL, the two best teams
in the league square it off. The Seahawks and the Rams. Look,
we talked about them earlier this week. If you're doing
power rankings, nobody is better than these two teams. Nobody
is more complete than these two teams. Right now, the

(10:50):
Seahawks have built an armor around themselves where they're winning
games now, where they look like a high level FBS
college football team playing homecoming. Right, that's how it's gonna
look like Ohio State playing UCLA tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
That's what's going to look.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
And the Rams are even better because their defense is
even better. So this game on sunny this is gonna
show you who the best team in the NFL is.
And I'll take I have more confidence the Rams defense
are gonna be able to do what they need to
do to Sam Donald, who still is prone to the
bad game couple of turnovers. If you prevent him from
being able to see his first read downfield, you can

(11:28):
stop Sam Donald, right, you can still do that. Now,
it doesn't happen as often because Donald's a more confident
quarterback and he goes downfield a lot, and he's got
the arm and he get But when you can confuse
him a little bit, when you can get him off
that number one read, when you can make him move
around a little bit in the pocket. He misses open
receivers downfield.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Again.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Doesn't happen like it used to with the Jets and
the Panthers and the Jets. Doesn't happen like it did
with the Jets. But you can do it once in
a while. Especially this defense. The Rams are the best
defense in the NFC. Still gonna be a big heater
continuing for Matthew Stafford, but they're gonna run the football
a little bit more than you think to establish a
little bit more of a dominance in the first half,
a little bit something different to give the Seahawks a

(12:08):
chance to get onto before they start throwing the football.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Give me the Rams to win this game over the sea.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
Look at you going against your guys, Sam Darnold. You'll
never love him again or you just have that man?

Speaker 3 (12:19):
I loved him in a long time.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Man.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
This is like saying, hey, do you still miss your ex? Guys,
we broke up four years ago, Man, I got married.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
There's still part of you that never lets go.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
I know I don't miss her, Man, I'm good. I
don't done with there. Come out all right.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
First meeting between these squads this week, Stafford obviously has
been absolutely murdering opposing defenses week in week out.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Would like to.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
See more from their run game. I'd love to see
more from the Seattle run game for that matter. And
another wide receiver to help JSN. We saw, we've seen
it a little bit of Cooper Cup. Now you add
Rashid Shahed, Maybe take the top off the dal little bit.
Maybe Arroyo gets in the mix a little bit more.
Some of that's wishing, wanting and opening. I think it's
a close game. Late two and a half is the number.

(13:08):
I'll take Seattle to win on a field goal to
finish it. But I have no confidence on either side
in this game. This is one that to me is
really a flip a coin, because I think that's the
fun part. Because you got a slate with some real dogs,
a slate with a bunch of really fascinating games, some
that may be fascinating only to me, and then you've

(13:30):
got this one that is, you know, split the hair
kind of thing. You've got the Rams playing really well,
and Stafford has been all world. Does McDonald have enough
with his defense to bring him back to Earth at
least for one day?

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. So yeah,
we got Kansas City and Denver coming up next. We
have a big story about a coach who says I
Am not going to coach the New York Giants.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
Way do we tell you who it is that's coming
up next?

Speaker 1 (15:51):
The Jason Smith Show with My best Friend Mike harmon.
We got Todd Furman coming up from Vegas in a
couple of minutes Vegas and started taking a look at
all the big action this weekend NFL college football, and
maybe who the odds on favorite is to be the
next head coach of the Giants. Because Bill Belichick says
it's not him, It wasn't me number one. I don't

(16:15):
think anybody really thought it was going to be him.
And I look at it as the statement he put
out today in which he misspelled the word waivering.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Hey hey, hey, hey, come on, big saying. I'm just saying, man,
have it proof read, Have somebody reading. Come on, the
guy's been in football forever. Waivers are spelled w ai theer.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Okay, all right, but you went to college and you
learn stuff, so I think you should know how to
spell the waiver.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
The right way. Anyway, Even if you don't, somebody else
should look at it. Put it out there.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
Maybe he wanted to make it the only way to
spell it, you know, like people trying to convince you
that irregardless is a word.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
Oh true, that is true.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
That is true, which I think eventually actually became a
word because so many people were dopey about it.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Well that's okay. Then, hey, we made it a word, right,
we made we made it a word. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
So uh, Belichick puts out a statement, Hey, I know
people have asked about the Giants, and I'm my commitment
to North Carolina has never been greater, and I'm staying
here at what we're doing here, we're planning and we're working.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
Dude, the only people talking about you being the head
coach of the Giants are us knuckleheads on the radio
because it's fun to talk about the fact that there's
no way the Giants would ever hire you. That's not happening. No,
I don't believe any report that says, oh, the Giants
are talking to Bill about five seven years ago.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Bill Belichick couldn't get a job in the NFL coming
off of the Patriots. All he's done in the years
in the year at two years since is cloak himself
in controversy and go to college football and show that
maybe college football is too much for me because I'm
four and five. Right, there's nobody he could have gotten
it when he was a hotcat it.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
He couldn't get a job.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Right, Raheem Morris, who I likely could get fired after
this week. Raheem Morris got the Falcons job after Belichick
was in there and interview twice, and he got the job.
Nobody wants him, but Belichick, I'm sure, is trying to
seize the moment to change the optics of him at
North Carolina instead of how difficult the last year has been.
The built in drama with Jordan Hudson that goes past

(18:24):
the scoreboard. Hey, I won a couple of games, even
though it's the two of the three worst teams in
the ACC who are absolutely terrible, and yes.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Syracuse is one of them.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Hey, I have a chance now to really flip that narrative,
make people think that I'm an asset here.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
Hey, I'm not going to the NFL. I'm staying here. Dude.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
No one wants you, no one is calling for you. Now,
it's not happening. This is the last coaching job you're
ever gonna have.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
This is it.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
You had your chance, but you ruin the Patriots. You
ruined your own legacy by running them into the ground
after Tom Brady left. Yeah, I find it hard to
believe that anybody is gonna come out and say, yeah,
I want Bill Belichick. Click the Giants. No, Jackson Dart
would say, trade me. If Bill Belichick was gonna come,
and he would say, I love being here.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
You gotta get rid of me. I'm not staying here.
I'm not gonna go.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
From a really really, really terrific quarterback into just an
okay quarterback.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
Not gonna do it well.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
I mean, he was excelling, even with Brian Dable trying
to get him killed out there, the number of times
he was in the in the tent, though, he did
show great concern by charging in too, said blue tent
on the field. Look, this is a team that Bill
Belichick would steal the Dennis Leary line.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
I can coach this team.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
He's got scatamo run through walls, he's got a good defense.
It's everything Bill Belichick can want. He's got a quarterback
that can play. Come on, it fits perfectly. I Ah,
you didn't think I was going there, did you?

Speaker 3 (19:50):
Yeah? Come on, man, don't do that. Come on, man,
that's not if there was.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
If it was five years ago, I would say yeah,
if it was it, But there's just you watch what happened,
even just at North Carolina. If you say, is the
last year worth it for North Carolina?

Speaker 3 (20:11):
They're gonna say no.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
So he's gonna increase his value by not getting a
job in the NFL, having to go to college to coach.
And I only say having to go because this is
a guy that's won, unlike any coach in the history
of the NFL Super Bowl wise. Uh, the guy's got
to go to college and he's not succeeding there and
suddenly the door's open for him to come back to
the NFL. No man, in his mind it is, and

(20:35):
he's doing him right. You do you and you got
But there's I don't know any team, not even the Jets.
And he would go to the Jets. Now he would
the Jets. H But if the Jets called me, oh yeah, no,
not even the Jets are gonna call Belichick. He is
no one's answer anymore. The game has passed him by.
College football may have passed him by. Stay in North

(20:56):
Carolina as long as you can not happen.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
I wonder what the odds are that he wins out
to go to a bowl game.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
He's got somewhat of a difficult schedule in which all
three teams they play the rest of the way are
all higher than them in the standings. Couple of tough ones.
You know, potentially, could he get to six and six? Yeah,
I could see him. I'm not gonna say he can't
because potentially I could see him getting to six and
six because the end of the season, you don't know
what teams have packed it in and what teams are

(21:25):
still playing for stuff. And I'm sure Belichick's gonna be
one of those. Hey I want to get motivated and
on an upswing get to a bowl game. So why
can make sure to get a year two? Because after
North Carolina looks back at the end of the year
and says, hey, how did this go, they want to
look at some reason to bring him back right, and
getting to a bowl game after the start, then you
can at least convince yourself to say, hey, maybe another

(21:48):
year with recruits. It's better we got to a bowl game.
We started out really really bad, but we sort of
of of cratered out and then we built our way
back up. Yeah, we can get to another year for
Bill Bellick, and he knows that he wants to make
that decision.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
That's busy, So yeah, I can see.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
Them playing with a little bit more oof down the stretch,
but they are playing other teams that are vying for
bowl games and teams that are better than they are.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
But yeah, I can see him getting the six.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
Wake Forest, Duke and NC State the last three games
on the schedule. But they're saying there's a chance. And
when do you get chesty when you think you've got
a little bit of power even if you beat up
on aus couple of alls around squads, that's inconsequential. Those
are wins man.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
We got more football coming up in ninety seconds, but
first it's time to find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports. For someone who's been called the
Bill Belichick of Fox Sports Radio, don't you dare because
all week he's told me he's onto Wake Forest to say.

Speaker 3 (22:47):
Actually Clemson.

Speaker 6 (22:48):
The Clemson Tigers were four and five this year and
got to win at number twenty Louisville tonight, twenty to nineteen.
Louisville had been seven and two overall, but the Cardinals
missed an extra point kick in the first half and
late the game missed two field goal attempts from fifty
and forty six yards. On Fox TV at number eight,
Oregon Ducks won again. They're nine and one this season

(23:08):
after beating a Minnesota team that was six and three
forty two thirteen. Oregon the final Chiefs running back Isaiah
Pacheco's still out this weekend with a knee injury. Kansas
City plays Sunday at Denver. Broncos running back JK. Dobbins
is out with a foot injury, and going on IR
is possible. In college basketball, there is a late game

(23:29):
to mention. Gonzaga, ranked nineteenth, leads in the final minute
at Arizona State seventy six sixty three, Number six Michigan
EDGTCU sixty seven sixty three. Fifth ranked Arizona over UCLA
in Los Angeles, sixty nine sixty five. In women's hoops,
West Virginia upset number fifteen Duke NHL overtime wins for

(23:50):
the Islanders, Carolina and Nashville. Philadelphia won in a shootout
at Saint Louis sixty five and number two rank Youonic
Center won his tennis match at the season ending ATP
five Finals. Carlos Alcarez had already secured the year end
number one ranking. Let's get to the NBA scoreboard. The
late game went to Golden State. They were playing at
San Antonio. Spurs were eight and three, but the Warriors

(24:11):
won the game by one one oh nine one oh eight.
Steph Curry forty nine points, including two late free throws.
The Clippers were three and eight, but they got to
play at Dallas and in double overtime, Clippers win one
thirty three one twenty seven. MAVs record falls to three
and ten. James Harden of La at triple double, including
forty one points, Sacramento three and ten after Minnesota beat

(24:34):
him one twenty four to one ten despite thirty four
points from the Kings, Demantus Sabonis Anthony Edwards thirty points
in victory Lakers nine and four. After winning at New
Orleans one eighteen one oh four, Austin reeves thirty one
points New Orleans two and ten.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
Houston eight and three.

Speaker 6 (24:50):
Rockets got thirty points from Kevin Durant and whipped Portland
won forty to one sixteen. Milwaukee in overtime down Charlotte
one forty seven to one thirty four. The Buck shot
sixty five percent from the floor. Jannisontenacumbo with eighteen assists
and seven turnovers. Detroit has won nine games in a row.
The Pistons at home defeated Philadelphia one fourteen to one

(25:12):
oh five eleven and two overall mark for the Pistons.
Orlando sent Brooklyn to another loss one oh five ninety eight.
The Nets are one and eleven. New York beat Miami
won forty to one thirty two. Karl Anthony Towns thirty
nine points, no turnovers, Landry sham At thirty six points.
Jalen Brunson of the Knicks was out with the sprained
ankle Ogan Andobi left early with a strain hamstring for

(25:34):
the heat. Norman Powell thirty eight points.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
Back to you, magas.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Steve O joining us down the hot line. Longtime friend
of the show, our Vegas insider. He is on Twitter
at Todd Furman, That is at Todd Furman, former Rods
maker at Caesars. Check him out now on CBS Sports
Line TSN. Todd has always hadday man.

Speaker 7 (26:00):
Thanks for stopping by, Always fun catching up gentlemen. Hopefully
you guys are finishing strong, heading into another fine football weekend.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
All right now, before we get to some of the picks,
if I said to you right, we've just Bill Belichick
said Listen, I'm not going to coach the Giants.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
Who's the favorite right now? You have to be the
next Giants head coach.

Speaker 7 (26:18):
It's a great question one I think tomorrow family is
going to have to do some heavy, heavy soul searching.
If I'm looking right now, I have to imagine they're
going to kick the tires on an offensive minded personality,
and it would make a lot of sense to look
within the division at offensive coordinator Cliff Kingsbury down there
in DC. I know people have made a case for
Lane Kiffin reuniting with Jackson Dart at the NFL level.

(26:39):
I just don't see that as a likely scenario. I
think you need somebody that's called plays at the NFL level,
maybe a former head coach looking to try and get
a second opportunity. But there's a lot of reason to
be optimistic about the roster of the Giants have built,
not just on the offensive side with some of the
difference makers there, but a defense that, my opinion, once
they get healthy, can be one of the more formidable
pass rushes. You solidify the back end, and I think

(27:01):
they're a lot closer to contention than people think.

Speaker 4 (27:03):
See That's why I blew Smith's mind by doing a
bunch of analysis as to why Bill Belichick would be
a perfect coach for what they've got there, a battering
Ram and a defense. But let's move into the NFL,
shall we Seattle and the Rams. We talked about it
a bunch Rams with Matthew Stafford playing on a heater
Sam Donald, people waiting for him to turn back into

(27:24):
a pumpkin. Rams a narrow favorite at home.

Speaker 7 (27:28):
Rams out to a three even three and a half
point favorite at some locations out here in the desert,
no doubt the game of the weekend when you look
at these two teams and how prolific they've been both
on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. You
mentioned Sam Donald completely erasing or at least for now,
some of those memories and the lasting images of the
regular season finale against the Detroit Lions, and following it

(27:49):
up with that rough playoff game where he was sacked
with felt like a hundred times. I think it ended
up being just nine. And on the flip side of things,
to your point, Arm Matthew Stafford, you know, is the
short shot to win the MVP depending on which books
you look at. He's neck and neck with Drake May,
but putting up some video game like numbers at this
advanced age in his career, spreading the ball around, and
credit to Sean McVay for kind of changing his offense philosophy.

(28:11):
The big question that I think the Rams are going
to have to answer, You're in the Seahawks to some extent,
you can this secondary hold up for the Rams. I
mean Jackson Smith and Jig, but when both teams were
at full strength last year, absolutely cooked them to the
tune of nearly two hundred receiving yards. It was a
game the Rams won in overtime twenty six to twenty.
But I think this is going to be a little
bit more competitive than what we've seen in the past. Tight,

(28:33):
low scoring football game in my opinion, and one that'll
go a long way in determining the pecking order, not
just in the NFC West, but the NFC overall.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
All Right, let's go to the night game, the Lions
and the Eagles. The Eagles have been bathing in dysfunction
like there at a spa.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
What do you think in this one? Todd?

Speaker 7 (28:49):
And the one thing even amid all this dysfunction is
that Philadelphia continues to be one of the league's best defenses,
and that was on full display Monday night when they
completely stymied the Green Bay Packers to the tune of
a ten victory. Now Philadelphia offensively, Smith has to answer
a lot of questions. It's never great when your number
one wide receiver coming into the season goes on a
Twitch stream and tells people that they should drop him

(29:11):
in fantasy. So if the age old question, does the
squeaky wheel get the grease and do we see them
feed aj Brown in this spot? Knowing that the Detroit
boundary corners leave a little bit to be desired and
it should be a favorable matchup. But until you see
more of that big play potential in Philadelphia's ability to
create balance, which they haven't found with Saquon Barkley, you
can understand why people are a little bit apprehensive. But

(29:33):
it is Jared goffin the Detroit Lions going out on
the road against an Eagles team. I'll be able to
slightly shorter week, so you can understand why Philly has
been back from a one point favorite out to two
and a half, even approaching three. But the bigger move
and one that I agree with is the total coming
down from a peak of forty eight and a half
now down to forty six and a half. I think
people are selling this Lion's defense short given how good
they've been, but it typically flies under the radar.

Speaker 4 (29:55):
J C Denver Kansas City Road favorite coming out of
a bye week boat. So Nick's taking on all comers
after some difficult runs these last couple of weeks. Who
wins this AFC West showdown?

Speaker 7 (30:08):
Injuries really starting to pile up for the Denver Broncos. JK.
Dobbins going to miss R J. Harvey at this point,
even in his rookie season, in my opinion, more than
capable of taking on a bigger workload, but the big
question can he pick up some of those tough yards
that the veteran running back had done in the past. Now,
he of course won't be the only absence for this
Marquee showdown. The defense going to be a little bit

(30:28):
shorthanded as well. No Alex Singleton, their green dot and
their leading tackler going to be out through the bye week.
Patrick certain not going to return to action, still dealing
with that upper body injury, and even a depth linebacker
in Jonah ellis going to miss as well. You get
a rested Kansas City team that knows their season kind
of hanging in the balance, a chance to make a
statement here. And that's the reason the Chiefs, despite being

(30:49):
three games behind in the win call in the Broncos,
coming as more than a field goal favorite. The market
tells us all we need to know here. I'm not
running to bet the Chiefs at this particular price tag,
but I do think they win the football game, and
if you have a little bit of an appetite for risk,
would have no problem endorsing a money line beat on
Kansas City. I think they'll play with a playoff like
intensity here and try and get themselves right back in

(31:10):
the thicke of things for the AFC West.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
Race, Vegas insider Todd Furman, our guest Jason Smith, Mike
Carmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. All right,
tell me the truth. Remember you're on with Mike Harmon,
But put that out. You give me, give me your
absolute opinion on this. Are you believing in the Bears
right now? Do you believe in the Bears.

Speaker 7 (31:32):
I'm not a full believer in the Bears. I do
think winning can breed confidence, and you have to give
the Bears a ton of credit for what they've been
able to do after an zero to two start that
had them losing games against the Vikings and Lions. Now
the wins the Bears have been able to compile during
the stretch leave a little bit to be desired. It's
not as if they've beaten a murderer's row with wins
against the Cowboys, the Raiders, the Commanders, the Saints, the Bengals,

(31:54):
and the Giants mixed in there. And while people may
want to overlook the loss against the Ravens, let's not
forget that that wasn't Lamar Jackson at full speed. It
was Tyler Huntley. So at six and three, this resume
has a number of holes, but you do have to win,
and when you're learning a new system with a sophomore quarterback,
Kayla Williams has shown that intestinal furd its fortitude and
ability to battle back. This another big measuring game, stick

(32:17):
game for the Chicago Bears at Minnesota. I mean, JJ
McCarthy has had a much tougher schedule He's kind of
had to navigate through over the last couple of weeks.
Getting the Ravens last week and the Lions the week before.
I know this won't be music to Bears fans. Eers
there's a reason there's an underdog, and there's also a
reason that JJ McCarthy currently has two wins on his
resume against NFC North opponents and Kayleb Williams still looking

(32:38):
for his second win. Maybe it'll come on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (32:40):
How about we dial it back because I have so
much to say about the Bears. Let's go back to
the college slate battle of names. Arch Manning against Gunner,
stocked in Georgia, nearly a touchdown favorite, arch Manning playing
better football of late?

Speaker 3 (32:55):
Can he pull it up?

Speaker 7 (32:56):
Set here Texas two weeks to prepare You think that
Steve's Zarxisian had a few tricks up his sleeve for
their trip to Athens. You look at Texas and they
have a lot still in front of them. I mean,
this is a team that, when they finish, or if
they do finish nine and three, splitting against Georgia and
maybe upsetting Texas A and M in the regular season
finale or vice versa, that in my opinion, has a
legitimate case to be included in the College Football playoffs.

(33:18):
If you want to banish any of those notions of doubt,
go out there and win both of these games, which
serves to be a daunting task. Georgia, though, despite their
gaudy record, not a vintage Georgia team. There's not NFL
caliber talent along that defensive line. They can't generate pressure
at the same rate. And if you want to place
a little bit of historical context around what Georgia has
done this year, despite being eight and one at this

(33:41):
point in the season, they've trailed for more minutes, two
hours and one minute plus than any team with the
record this late in the season since the UCLA Bruins
back in two thousand and five. So fascinating chess match
here if you like Texas, though, I try and bet
them in the first half plus the three and a
half get in and out, knowing that Kirby Smart makes
some of the best in game adjustments of any head
coach going in college football.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
He's on Twitter at Todd Furman, that is, at Todd Furman,
our Vegas insider Todd as always thanks for making time
for us, enjoy the games this weekend.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
We'll talk to you, my friend.

Speaker 7 (34:11):
Always a pleasure Hey, one last thing, Smith, I want
to ask harm. You know, they have such an iconic
ballpark on the south side of Chicago. It's a real travesty.
Northwestern is playing at Wrigley tomorrow, not at US Cellular
or whatever the hell we're calling it.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
Dang great Field, great Field, And you're damn right.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
It used to be guaranteed. Right now they don't guarantee that.

Speaker 7 (34:30):
They just I think that's asky to me.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Boys, that is right to me.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Take it easy, Todd, My guys see you, Todd, I
don't know about that, man.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
I think guaranteed rate I'm more.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
I have more confidence in that business than they just
do rate field. Wait, don't you guarantee it? Oh no, no,
not anymore. But here, give us your money.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
I just think at some point you stop changing the
damn name if you can help it.

Speaker 3 (34:55):
Particularly, it's the same company. We're playing at brand it
we play and you at the rate tomorrow? Oh the rate?

Speaker 4 (35:02):
Oh yeah, it's been the cell right when it was
US seller, Like you're at the sell we're playing at
the rates.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
But isn't it guaranteed? No, we can't guarantee you anymore
your money? No, we can't guarante what i'ms on your
credit score. I'm coming to you for this rate that's
really good.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
No, we can't do that. No, it's a variable rate.
Just after six months.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
You know what, I'll call you back if I want
to pull the trigger, I'll don't worry. I'll call you back.
Exit out about a Fresca Exit swollen Dome. Always fun
stopping by with Todd Furman. Coming up next. Hours away
from kickoff in college football, we preview two of the
biggest games, including one game where we're going to get
a Heisman moment and someone to jump to the top

(35:45):
of that leaderboard.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
What game? Who is it? That's next? Jason and Mike
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (35:53):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
It is the Karl Anthony Town Show with my best
friend Landry Shammitt.

Speaker 3 (36:06):
Shammitt Go New York O, New York Co, Go New
York Cup.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
Telling you man, we could trade Jalen Brunson, Now we
don't you Shammit can score thirty six off the bench.
Every night we'll get Luca and Austin Reeves were fine,
you're reading everything.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
We can move on on the fly.

Speaker 4 (36:21):
On the yesterday, it was get rid of Mike Brown today,
and let's just trade up some of the secondary parts.

Speaker 1 (36:27):
This all of a sudden, Jalen Brunston's gone to a
secondary part.

Speaker 3 (36:32):
Hey, we got Shammitt scored thirty, so well he didn't.
He didn't play today, so he's a secondary part. So
what did you do for me today? Jalen Brunson did nothing.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
Huge slate of games tomorrow in college football again, separation week,
elimination week. We saw Louisville basically get eliminated from playoff
contention tonight with that one's dang man, you want to
talk about man that chen teeth because you also were
talking about you know, Brahm is always.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
Mentioned as one of those guys that could always be
looking at a big picture thing, right, So this loss
with a college kicker getting you twice, oh man.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
Dabosweeney did more hugging in the last five minutes of
that game. They needed to coach it. They missed the
first field goal, he was hugging everybody. They missed the
second field goal, he was hugging everybody again. Then when
the game actually ended because you know, Louisville got the
ball back, they won.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
He's hugging everybody at third time.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
He did so much celebrating in the last five minutes
of that game.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
But they put up so many metrics as to why
this why this game was so substantial for Dabbo in
his career in terms of his overall record.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
This was their.

Speaker 4 (37:43):
First comeback win of the year, Like all of these things,
just absolute insanity in those final minutes of the game.
So a big Friday night between the NBA games. The
Golden State at San Antonio game gave us some thrills.
Wemby and Hurry getting back and forth on it. We
have these college games, Big game on Fox. So yeah,

(38:04):
a lot of good stuff coming up tomorrow. Two games
to talk about now.

Speaker 1 (38:09):
In the last few minutes, the Heisman moment we're waiting
for comes to us tomorrow in the form of Alabama's
Ty Simpson, big revenge game for last year. They have
Oklahoma National TV. Everybody's watching this. It's not gonna be
a stat year for the Heisman winner, right, You've seen that.
Usually it's a stat it's a stat award. It's not

(38:30):
happening this year. So we're waiting for big winning moments.
Everybody's waiting for someone to have one. Now is Ty
Simpson's time. Look, his numbers are all in line with
everybody else, but you clearly okay, you need something else
but Alabama National TV every week, the biggest game tomorrow.
Simpson has some big moments in a very Manzell like moment,
he has some big throws, some big plays.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Late, Alabama wins. He jumps to the front of the
Heisman Trophy race.

Speaker 4 (38:55):
Well, they're gonna win. He's got to do it because
they're not getting much from the run game. Getting three
point five yards of carry, twenty one touchdown against one pick.
That looks pretty pretty good sixty seven percent completion rate.
As we enter this weekend's games, Mendoza the slight favorite
at plus one thirty Saying at plus one seventy, Marcel

(39:15):
Reed at plus seven hundred, Simpson a at plus eight hundred.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
Remember that name, it's Simpson A remember and now just
remember I want to even though it's going to help
torpedo my point. Justin Fields only has one interception this
year too, so remember that.

Speaker 4 (39:31):
Well, you know what you can take care of the football,
Go back to last year, right, Caleb Williams had that
long interceptionless streak. Now he took one hundred and forty
two sacks and never put the ball in harm's way.
Throwing with a shot rate if you look at the chart,
somewhere between minus five yards and plus five yards. What'll
be interesting with Simpson is he's going against the guy

(39:52):
that was once upon a time the Heisman front runner
in John Matteir. Eight touchdown, seven picks for him, it
has added rushing touchdowns, so it can hurt you with
his legs. But curiosity here as we go, Alabama minus six.
Big opportunity here.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
Now not a Heisman moment, but one just as big
because we are gonna get arch belief after tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
Texas and Georgia.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
Arch Manning has been really good against some good teams
the last couple of weeks. Maybe it was just like
we said at the beginning of the year, give them
six games if we're still getting this arch Manning and
arch Manning stinks the last six games. Okay, we got problems,
but now it looks like it just took him a
few starts. This is not your typical great Georgia team.
Texas gonna throw the ball all day, and arch Manning

(40:41):
gets back into the conversation about being number one overall
in the twenty twenty seven NFL draft. Probably too late
for this year, but this is two big weeks in
a row. Texas is really unpredictable. But this is a game.
They go in, they win, they screw up the sec.
Arch Manning has a big day and suddenly we're like, hey,
I never left the arch Manning bad way.

Speaker 3 (40:59):
I just thought he was really good. That's going to
be next week.

Speaker 4 (41:02):
Arch completing about sixty three percent of his passes, three
touchdowns per pick eighteen to six ratio. He's also their
second leading rusher with two hundred and eight yards and
six touchdowns. The thing for Georgia no pass rush, so
Arch should be standing there with a clean jersey and
an opportunity to work downfield where they do have and deploy.
Deploy a pretty good arsenal of receivers.

Speaker 1 (41:24):
Exit out bouta Fresca exit swollen dome. Check out our
big big best of that goes up in a few minutes.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
All the big picks for the weekend.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
