Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my bist
friend Mike Harmon, everybody, and uh why I'm more nervous
about the sons than I ever have been. But first,
there is still a no hitter going on a combined

(00:45):
no hitter. The Cubs lead the Dodgers for nothing as
the Dodgers bat in the bottom of the eighth thinning. Uh.
They did get another walk, so that's seven walks with
the Dodgers night, but still without a hit. Uh. Three
pictures have now combined on this nor again Dodgers batting
in the bottom of the eighth inning. Uh, down for
nothing and I want to tell you this just happened. Um.

(01:07):
Rob Manford has run on the field and he is
yelling no, no hitter, no, no hitter. He is making
crossout movements with his arms, and he is now giving
the game to the Dodgers. He is giving them base hits.
He is saying they now have three hits and three
runs and now it's a four three game again. He's
walking off the field now saying no, no hitter, no
no hitter. Rob Manford wanting to get rid of the

(01:30):
lack of offense in Major League Baseball. And you gotta say,
you know, we've gone through the day. I haven't seen
any really big headlines of guys dropping their pants or
throwing anything at an umpire or anything. Today. It seems
to have been pretty calm thus far. Uh yeah, so
far to say, although, uh, the Cubs just got out
of the inning, and you, hey, we're just gonna keep
checking the pictures, you know, every he We're gonna keep
checking them. Uh. A ground out to first buy Muncy

(01:53):
ends the eighth inning, so the Cubs will go to
the ninth inning with a chance for a find no
hitter against the Dodgers. And the last time the Dodgers
had to comb I feel like Ross Porter, you know,
the last time the Dodgers tried to combine no hitter
against him. I got to go back to June of
two thousand and twelve when Kevin Millwood and five Mariners
were Leavers. Did it again. That was June eighth, on

(02:15):
two thousand and twelve, Dodgers in Seattle. It's the last
time that happened. That's pretty good ross porter and that
wasn't bad. Yeah, I do have a pretty good ross
s porter. You know the last time the Dodgers lost
a game on a on a Thursday night that began
after five o'clock PM Pacific time, where the first pitch
didn't come until quarter after and they scored one run
in the first inning and didn't score again the rest
of the game and had a team score three runs

(02:36):
of the ninth thitting to win. Gotta go back to
nineteen sixty five when the Dodgers beat the New York
Mets in the final score three to one. Be honest,
you might be the only guy right now that still
has a ross porter uh imitation here in one that
that tries to break it out frequently. One thing I
wanted to bring out of this game, and this this
goes a nod to the Dodgers organization. The return enough

(03:00):
Jack Peterson as a member of the Cubs, uh, you know,
World Series ring and all that stuff. They gave one
to his brother Champ, who was always around the team
and uh, you know, he has down syndrome and was
a rallying point for for the Dodgers at times and
and always around. So they've had so many uh different

(03:24):
things that they designed a hat uh that they were
raising money and awareness and and he was always with
Jocket in big moments, so uh, they gave him a
World Series ring tonight. I thought that was a nice
classic that is very quite the organizations. So I saw
that starting to move a little bit on social media.
So a good moment as the Dodgers now trying to

(03:45):
figure out how to you know, get past those field
goods uh and and actually get a hit. Uh. So again,
we're going to the ninth inning right now, Cubs are
just coming to bat, So we got a bit to
go here. We'll keep you updated on this throughout the
rest of the show. But tonight, Uh, speaking of l A,
the Clippers made it a big night as they beat
the Sun's going away in the fourth quarter. Tonight they

(04:07):
had a ten point lead going to the fourth quarter,
they maintained it. They went at one oh six to
ninety two, And certainly Paul George is gonna get all
the credit in the world. And even though he didn't
have a great night shooting being the volume shooter, he
had that big three from half court at the end
of the third quarter that was a big lift for them.
He goes for twenty seven, fifteen rebounds and eight assist.

(04:28):
Paul George was terrific. But the line of the night
and the star of the night is easily Patrick Beverley.
This is the second game in a row that he
has locked up Devon Booker, and Devin Booker is a
different player the last couple of games, and this goes
to the credit will get into Tylu a bit coming
up in the show. But this is a player Patrick Beverley,

(04:49):
who was barely playing early on in the playoffs and
now here he is playing big time minutes twenty seven tonight,
And this is the second game in a row that
Devin Booker has looked bad. He is ten out of
thirty seven from the field in the last two games.
He bumps Devin Booker, he makes him uncomfortable and Booker
hasn't found his way out of it. If Booker is

(05:11):
the superstar that everybody says he is, and he's terrific,
there's a reason why I like Donovan Mitchell over Devin Booker. Uh,
Devin Booker's got to find a way to lead the
Sons into the NBA Finals, because my fear for the
Suns right now is, oh, boy, it looks like the
Clippers have figured the Sun's out, and they figured him
out last game and they were one miracle alley oop
away from being dominated in the series. And and it

(05:33):
could be the Clippers saying, hey, we can really win
this series. Go up three games to one with our
next game. Uh, that's how close that series is. And
if the Clippers have figured out how to stop Devin Booker, oh,
it's gonna be lights out for the Suns. And I
know we talked to Casey Jacobson earlier in the show
and he said, Hey, when's the last time you know,
a big time star has been shut down for an
entire series. I get that, but this is the first

(05:55):
time Devin Booker has been through the playoffs. So if
there's I there's there's no way I can discount that
they can do that to him, you know one time
you for great players. Yeah, I can see them learning
that big lesson one time in the playoffs. Boy, they
had a really bad series their first time around because
they were playing so well for a couple of rounds
and they ran out of gas in the conference finals,
and and Devin Booker got locked up by Patrick Beverlely,

(06:18):
and he had a horrible last four games of the series,
and the Suns wound up losing. That happens to star
players once in their career when they're young and they're
trying to figure it out. Now doesn't mean that it
can happen. But that doesn't mean what I'm saying is
it doesn't mean that well, suddenly he's a star players
gonna get past it. But it can happen now if
it's ever gonna happen for Devin Booker, now is the time.
How do they get past Patrick Beverley. How do the

(06:40):
Sun's wind up figuring things out to get him away
from Beverly, to get him off the schneide and get
him to make shots. Because this is not the same
Devon Booker that was running up and down the floor
the first couple of rounds of the playoffs. In game
one of the series, chucking up and shooting over from
the field, he is a different player, and Beverley is
locked down on him when he is in the game.

(07:00):
Even when he's not in the game, Devin Booker is
not shooting well. Beverlely played twenty seven minutes and I
Booker played forty minutes, right, So that's that's thirteen minutes.
Because I'm good at math, that's thirteen minutes. Booker was
out there that didn't have to worry about Patrick Beverley,
and still Booker couldn't make shots. So that's the That's
why I'm suddenly my concert level for the Sons went
from pretty low to now it's through the roof. Because

(07:20):
here in one game, the Clipper says, okay, now we
got you. Now we figured things out, and now it's
up to you guys to be able to adjust to us,
because now we know exactly what we're doing to slow
you down. I'm if Devin Booker is a star, he's
got to find a way. But I Am not going
to be surprised if Patrick Beverley continues to do this
on him the rest of the series. Well one of
the great agitators. That's why he's uh, he's on the squad.

(07:42):
When you look at what he and Reggie Jackson, it
meant to this team. Uh, two guys that are going
to get this the proper credit. I don't think in
the grand scheme of things, but from a defensive philosophy altogether, it's,
you know, beat the hell out of the leads, lead guy,
the lead score, right, did it to Luca, did it
to Donovan Mitchell? He got hurt too, So you had

(08:05):
that working into that series, and now you're just agitating
the hell out of Devin Booker on every possession. There's
no free looks. He's got to work that much harder
to get a little bit of space and it's not there.
And you know, Beverly hit a couple of shots, he
had a big three pointer down the stretch, and then
uh sat down with the starters, right. He he he doesn't

(08:26):
often get a curtain call like that, so a big
moment for him as well. But you know, as you
look at Devin Booker, yeah, five or twenty one tonight
shot was broken. How much of that is impacted by
having to wear the mask. I'm curious. I thought at
some point he'd flip it off. And just like my book,
if I get hit again, I get hit again, it's

(08:47):
gonna hurt and I'm gonna have to get through it.
And I'm I can't. I can't play with this. All
there goes. He has a shoot the mask and now
look at Devin Booker. He's got six three point yes,
time out clippers. They want him to put the mask
back on him, but legit, it is trying to figure
you know, anything that varies your routine, your sight lines,

(09:09):
you're breathing, whatever else. I mean, the mask isn't gonna
be you know, a d percent like running around without one.
Otherwise I think more guys that play inside the you know,
defensive interior would be running around with masks, right if
that if that was the case, uh, And they'd also
look like, you know, giant superheroes running around, which is
kind of cool too, but you look at the offense also.

(09:32):
The other the other wildcard factor we talked about his
return a little last hour is Chris Paul. And suddenly
he became very and and every position possession became very
bald dependent on him right and to where he was
counting down to the final seconds and it's like, all right,
now we'll move. It's like no, no, no, no no, You've
been gone a bit here. We we've developed some chemistry,

(09:54):
we've got got some stuff going, and and Booker was
running things well and you lose him, and then you
lost campaign with only four minutes tonight, which is one
of the other factors. Not that you're gonna make excuses
because Kawhi Leonard was sitting in a sky box, so
it's not like it's a one to one trade off there,
but just the reality and the rotations had to change.

(10:15):
And and as Monty Williams said in the post game,
they didn't match. They didn't match, and they didn't give
the the Clippers the same energy and intensity that they
needed to twitter at how about a fresca Mike gets
swollen Dohm the Jason Smith Show with my bast friend
Mike Harmon, you know. And that's the whole thing, is
that we forget about the fact that in every big series,

(10:38):
there's a game where the bench wins a game, right,
there's always a game where the bench does it, and
the Clippers do. They rely on their bench, not as much,
but they still they certainly have players who can do
it for the Son's It's okay the guy that's gonna
do it as campaign. I mean, we watched him without
Chris Paul jump into the starting lineup and he has
been fantastic. I mean he has been absolute le terrific.

(11:00):
And now if he is out, that is a huge
blow because he played four minutes tonight and you look
at the bench they had, they hardly got anything. Well,
Kim Johnston looks like he's developing, but he's still, you know,
a tertiary type guy. Right. He had twelve points in
thirty minutes, you know, off the bench a lot of minutes,
you know for a guy to come off the bench

(11:20):
and play and score twelve, but nobody else did anything.
I mean he that's where all the energy comes from
and all the push I mean pain is a huge
deal for this team and and one game. Every time
you go back and say, well, this was the game,
This wasn't a Superstar game. This is a game the
bench one and the Sons are gonna need that and
without without pain, that's a huge deal because Chris Paul

(11:40):
clearly looks like he's he needs a little bit of
time to get himself back into shape because when you're
in COVID protocolog you can't work out with the team,
you can't practice with the team. You're allowed to face time.
And I'm sure he had a lot of coaching moves
and everything that he was able to advise them over
the past couple of nights. But you know, when you
have to find your way back in and find your rhythm,
and he didn't have it tonight. And so this is where, Okay, well,
Chris Paul wouldn't have played thirty nine minutes tonight if

(12:03):
campaign didn't get hurt, because Pain would have been there.
And maybe that's a better spark. Maybe pain makes a
couple of shots because you know, Chris Paul couldn't make anything,
and the game is different because it was only a
ten point game at the end of the third quarter.
And now when you don't have that, it's a really
big deal. Man. I'm nervous for the Suns. I went from, hey,
the Sun's been playing better than anybody in the playoffs.
They get everything figured out too. Now I think the

(12:25):
Clippers have figured it out, and if they don't find
a way to get Devin Booker loose, I don't know
the Sons win another game in the series. Momentum changes
after every game here and right now the Clippers seem
to have it. Not often you get a future Hall
of Famer back and everything goes to hell with your offense. Oh,
it's awesome. We got them back. Which we didn't get
them back. It would have been better if we didn't know.

(12:46):
They shot combined from the field. Yeah, Chris Paul and
Devin Booker tonight, you know, and and Paul had twelve assists.
That's great. He missed a lot of wide open, you know,
mid range jump shots. Booker missed a number of of
open looks. And then you know, if you're not going

(13:06):
to get those down, you're sure sure as hell. I'm
not gonna make him with any regularity the way Beverley,
you're wearing him like a suit. Hey, what do you
think of my new suit? I don't like it. I
think you should put another suit on. It's a suit
that doesn't have Patrick Beverley attached to it. Let's put
a different suit on for you. But let's have that.
I think that'll work. Uh So again, really it went.

(13:28):
You know, this is the NBA Playoffs the way it
goes right now, one game everybody sees his momentum. But
the big thing is have the Clippers figured it out? Right?
Have they figured out how to stop Devin Booker? And again,
everybody wanted to anoint Devin book Or a super duper star,
and I'll tell you, okay, if he is one, he
finds a way, he finds a way against his Clippers,
because if he's not, oh, then suddenly he's honest. And

(13:48):
he couldn't find a way. He couldn't do it. But
Devin Booker was so great. Watch out if he's a
superstar that he said. He finds a way to lead
the Son's the next couple of games and they win
this series over the Clippers. We will find out what
kind of superstar that he is in the coming days
and nights. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,

(14:10):
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I
Heart Radio app. We know one team that is going
on to play for a championship. Let's hear the first
call in English? Please that old cutting good. Here's a
chance to Canadians to the Stanley Cup Pedal. The goal

(14:39):
of a lifetime for looking it off the rush, he
don't stops out of the Canadians go to the Far
Canadians radio network on the call. Yes, the Montreal Canadians,
the best team in the Western Conference. Yes, they barely
made the playoffs, and here they are going to the
Stanley Cup Final after knocking out of Golden Knights. They

(15:00):
win at three two in overtime. And if you thought
that call was exciting, well in French it's just as good,
if not even better. Yet I've also called I don't
give you some days. So there it is uh the uh,

(15:28):
the French version of the Canadians final call. And so
here goes Montreal, who was absolutely one of the worst
teams to make the playoffs in the regular season. There
are twenty four, twenty one, and eleven, and here they
are in the Stanley Cup Final. They make a rag
tag run. They were down three one in the first
round of the Maple Leafs and they wind up going

(15:48):
all the way through and getting to the Stanley Cup
Final for the first time since nineteen three. The Mixed
Sorley Series where it looked like Gretzky was gonna get
the Cup with the Kings. Martin McSorley gets caught with
the legal stick. The Canadians score in a power playing
Game two. They win the next three games of the series.
Gretzky doesn't win with the Kings, and Jacques the Mayor's

(16:10):
takes the Canadians to the Stanley Cup and wins the
title first to one ahead of the postseason, according to
the odds that were put up by William Hill before things,
and and it falls on the Saint John Baptiste Day,
that that's that. Well, it's if if it should fall on,

(16:31):
it should fall on Gila Flour Day. But that that's
a good one as well. Well, it could be so
or Steve Piast day of the Nativity of St. John
the Baptist. So there you go, Ken Dryden Day, I mean,
any of those, but you want sure they celebrate them all,
you know, equally, you know, but you always get to
see the the greatest tradition in all of sports, the handshake.

(16:52):
You know, Yes, I know, yeah, I kind of feel
like that's that. You know, Hey, Ryan Fitzpatrick's a smart quarterback,
because how many times say hair's the gray to tradition
of sports. It's the handshake at you as to time.
But the thing is everybody shakes hands at the end. Now, guys,
when in the NBA finals, everybody shakes hands, the hugs

(17:13):
and yeah, everybody hands. Now, everybody hug. Even the the
end of regular season games in the NFL is like
the end of It's like the end of summer camp. Here,
take a jersey. It's great, let's get a picture. And
that's kind of going out the window. Everybody shakes hands.
You know, you know what it is. It's it's the
tough part of of that series. This is what I like,
is that the other team that has to sit and

(17:35):
watch the celebration until they go shake hands. Because in
you know, when a team wins a series in the NBA,
they celebrate, but a lot of them, hey, good game,
good game, good game. You get that, you get the
high fives of the team and then they go celebrate.
And but sometimes even when you win a championship, they're
they're near a guy, Hey, good job, good job. Then
you go celebrate. No. In in the NHL, it's the

(17:55):
other team just sits and sits on their sticks for
like five minutes while the other a team is all
jumping on top of each other. There's no guys skating
down getting in the middle of going hey, good game,
good game like it is in the NBA. In the
NFL doesn't happen that way, doesn't that. But in the
the NHL, it's it's the team has to sit there
and watch the other teams celebrate, and they still do it.
And that's what I like, is that they have to

(18:17):
sit there and watch and then they go shake hands.
You know, that's gonna be very motivating for this squad
next year, watching the banners and trophies and allus. Hey.
I always make sure that if if if a team
wins a championship and my team doesn't win, I always
make sure they watched the team for a second. I go, hey,
we were agree, you know, we were great. Hey, but
let's look at them right there. Let that that can

(18:38):
be us next time. All right. You ever have one
of your kids going yell at an official, I think
if they got screwed. Uh no, But I yelled at
the an umpire because I got screwed in the championship
game in softball last week. We lost six to five.
I really got screwed, but I I I backed off
a bit, and he understands. You haven't told this story
now what happened, man, I'll tell you. So my team,

(19:00):
we had lost nine in a row to start this,
to start the season right in literal league. I've been
I've been managing for you know a while now, and
it's one of those cases where I always, I always do,
not that I'm the greatest manager in the world, but
everybody signs up to play. I always make sure everybody
plays and plays infield positions for most of the season
because everybody signs up and everybody gets to play, and
I need to teach everybody. Then when it gets the playoffs,

(19:22):
that's when, okay, the best players start to play the
best positions. So my team's always have a big push
at the end because they think, oh, well, you know,
you know we're gonna beat them. We beat them during
the season, you know, you know, eleven to four and
won this game, you know, ten to six, Like okay, yeah,
Now it's the girls who can catch grounders that are
gonna be making the play. So my team always has
an uptick. So we get to the championship game and
and you know, we go into the playoffs as the

(19:44):
lowest seed. We win our first game, we win our
second game, we go to the championship. The whole league
is like, oh my god, I can't believe this team.
This can't believe this team. And so my girls are
so excited. We get to the championship game and one
of the worst calls that happened, and I I really
restrained myself, is my best hitter was up with the
bases loaded and we were winning three to two in
the third inning, and I'm like, this is gonna be

(20:06):
the game right here. She's gonna crack one and we're
gonna get two or three runs. And the ump wrung
her up on strikes with a with a pitch that
was inside and up over the letters, and I thought,
I thought my girl was gonna cry. And I was
so mad because it was the worst call and everybody
knew it, even the other team. Where was it going
to go off the field? They were like strike three?
And I walked up to and I said, Blue, I said,

(20:27):
where where was that pitch? I'm not arguing, but you
gotta tell me where that pitch was. He goes, it
was here. I go, you realize you're putting your hand
over where the letters are on her and how high
that was? And he and he just turned away from me,
and I'm like, now you turn it away from me.
And then I said, you know what, I'm not going
to get this call, but maybe I get the next one.
I walk away and the girls will looking at me,
and I just said, girls, what do I tell you
all the time? The umpires are never gonna help you.

(20:49):
You gotta do it yourself. Okay, that was a bad call.
And I felt awful for the girl because she's I
know she's gonna think about it for the next year
because of a chance to win the championship and she
and she was so mad. But I went up and
I said, act off. I said, I'm not gonna get it.
Maybe I get the next one. And it turned out
the game there a lot of twists and turns. We
lost six five, and I that at bad had gone differently,
I know she would have gotten a hit, we had

(21:09):
another couple of runs. It would have been a different game.
I don't only would have won, But boy, I still
see that pitch. This is a week and a half later,
that was so high in the look on her face
when he says strike three, and I wanted to walk
up to the ump and I go, are you kidding? Me.
I mean really, I wanted to walk up and say,
are you a friend of Roy Turners? You know, like
Matt that did in Mad News Bad. There's two teams
out here. Ump, there's two teams out here. I was

(21:30):
so mad, but I walked up, I said what I said,
and I walked away, and I'm like, he knows he
blew it. He knows he blew that call. I was
so mad. I was so oh my god, it was
so bad. But I always and and we lost, and
I always tell the girls whore here. I get around,
and they went and you know, they're all like their
tears in a rise. When it was like, go, hey,
look how happy they are right there. Okay, that was
almost us, and that can be us next time. All right,

(21:52):
you played great and the girls fending. The girls are okay,
I mean no, girls are in softball. Girls are different,
you know. They they see that, they see the celebration.
It's not quite the physical. I throw absolutely everything into it,
like soccer or your basketball or something. It's that generally,
as I've seen is that the girl teams I've coached,

(22:13):
the girls take losing a little bit better. And it's like, okay,
you know, we lost. You know, we gave we gave
her all. We did it and we lost the game.
And you know, all right, you know, so they were
actually okay. But it make sure, I say, watched them
for a minute, look how happy they are? That could
be us, And then we talk about our season everything else,
and it went that way. But uh, it's always important
to watch the other teams celebrate. I always feel it
the way for at least for a couple of seconds,

(22:33):
not to sit there and go no, no, no, you
look at that. You watch you watch the Canadians celebrate
as they're going to the Stanley Cup final. You watch
the guy that walked right through a dipsy doodle past
you would score a goal. You watch that guy celebrate
now just for a couple minutes and say, hey that look, look,
how look look how happy they are? Next time that
could be us. That's kind of what I say. Motivational
speaker like that Smith And how about a Fresca. You

(22:54):
want to book him right now? He'll tell you about
the many losses he's accumulating. And so now I wanted
to tell you this, do you want a great story
about because this is like a big time for me.
Now with the Canadians going back to the Stanley Cup Final.
Because I told you last night. It coincided with my
first week at ESPN. My first real job out of

(23:14):
college was a production assistant at ESPN, and it coincided
with the week the Canadians went to the Stanley Cup
Final to play the Kings. So I told you last
night started. Look, I told you I was a great
p A and an a P. They tell stories about
me there still it's twenty five years later, because I
I was a great production assistant and associate producer, but
my first week I didn't really know anything right, so

(23:35):
uh and I just happened to be the person that
was taking care of a lot of things that came
in that was being fed in, like interviews that were
fed in from the game that we ran on Sports
Center before the game because hockey was on ESPN. Then
you know, the ESPN had the the Stanley Cup Final.
So I told you story last night. When I went
in and and and put the first live to tape together,
I didn't know what I was doing. So so like

(23:56):
two days later, I think it's for like Game three
of the Stanley Cup Final, and they say to me, hey, Jason,
can you take in this lit the tape? And I'm
just like, yeah, I got a lot, I know a
lot to tape now, I can do this. Take this
in and go in and edit it. I said, yeah, great,
no problem. So I I take it and I go
in and go edit the package. I think tom Me
sent it in and it was you know, he's doing
a stand up and he's talking about the series. And
I'm putting together sound bites of Patrick Waugh and all

(24:17):
the players and uh, you know, Vincent, Damn Fust and
everybody else. So I'm getting ready to go in and
the and my boss says to me, hey, make sure
you make sure you put b roll on that. And
I looked at him and I said to myself, I
don't know what that is, but I feel like I
should know, and I'm not gonna let him know that
I don't know. So I said, yeah, yeah, no problem,
no problem. So I go walking into the edit bay
and I go, I don't I don't know what b

(24:38):
role is, but I gotta put it up. What's b roll?
I don't know what, I have no idea. I gotta
put be I know it's b roll, some kind of
lacquer that I gotta put on the tape because I
don't know what b role is. Right. So I go
in and I put it together, and I say to
the editor who is sitting next to me, and this
this is a story where sometimes you just you just
step in it. And I said to the other I said,
all right, and now that we're done, he goes. He goes, uh,

(24:58):
it's it's a minute forty five or a great minute
forty five grade. He goes, and I said, I don't know.
Let's uh, let's put some b roll on there. He goes, Okay,
what do you want? And I'm like, damn it, that's
not the answer I needed. And I needed you to
tell me what b roll was because I don't want
to ask him because he's gonna hold the full Yeah,
he's he's gonna walk around and say, you know, had
a p a come in to put a package together,

(25:19):
didn't even know what b role was. I'm going, I
don't know what be roll and there's nobody I can
ask me. And I'm sweating because I don't know anybody,
and I'm brand new. I'm like, oh my god, I said, uh,
he said, what do you want? I got and I go, um,
we could just put some on. Uh. I'm sitting there
and I'm rubbing my chin, going, something's gotta something's gotta
give here, and I said, we could just put some money. Goes, yeah, well,

(25:40):
just just tell me what you want, and I go, oh,
what do I do? I go, well, what do you think?
And he goes, you're asking my opinion? And I said, yeah,
he goes, WHOA Usually production doesn't ask opinion of engineering.
Oh yeah, sure, Well I would say we need the
goal from you know from Game four that the Canadian
scored in a third period, and um, you know, we
probably need a little bit of uh gret Sky from

(26:02):
game one, you know, a couple of goals. Alright, great,
no problem. So I go get those tapes and I realized, oh,
b roll is what we put on the tape to
cover people talking. So you just don't see a talking
head for like forty five seconds, so you have like,
you know, Jacques Demyre's the head coach of the Canadians
talking about Gretzky. And after like ten seconds here we
show video of Gretzky. So I'm like, oh, now I

(26:23):
get that's what b roll is. Okay, great. So we
put it together, it goes back in it airs right something.
Everything is good. I knew a b roll is great.
And so after the show was over, Uh, the head
of engineering comes up to me. Right, this is the
head of engineering at ESPN. You need a charge of
everybody that's working on He goes, which one of you
is Jason Smith? And I go, oh, oh, oh my,

(26:44):
go ahead, it's me. It's me. Every conversation with someone
you hadn't met yet started, which one do you because? Which?
When he was Jason Smith, I just want to leave.
I just want to bolt. Which one of you was?
Jay Smith? I got, I go that's me and I go,
oh my god. He goes, hey, you got a second,
and I said yeah, and I go, all right, something's

(27:06):
gonna happen here. Something's gonna because that's because hey, I
just want to say, that was a really nice thing
you did in the edit bay. You asked Steve's opinion
of of what to go on the tape and and
he really liked that, and he, you know, he told
me about it that you said that, and I thought
that was really nice of you. And I was like,
I could either sit here and say I didn't know
what b role was, so it was kind of a deal.
And I only asked him because I was hoping he

(27:26):
would give me the answer, but instead I said, Hey,
no problem, I I think that's the right thing to do.
I think I think that's that that thing. Yeah, hey,
that was a really nice thing. You just want to
say that. He brought that up to me. He thought
that was really nice and great things all right. Yeah,
So I'm like, I didn't know what I had no idea.
I was a castanza. I succeeded despite myself. I had
no idea what it was, and then I wound up
not only getting it right, but then hey, the head

(27:49):
of engineering knew who I was because I asked the
opinion of an editor and apparently nobody would have. It
would be like, we're gonna do this, this, this, this
and this, and the editor would always just put it together.
So I wanted it's all downtown. Hi, you don't have
to embarrass me. Be sure to catch live editions of

Big news out of the National Football League today is that, hey,

(28:52):
if you thought the All Star uniforms in baseball were
kind of crazy, uh, the NFL has approved alternate helmets
to be was with throwback uniforms for two. So this
means that teams can go back and use some great
throwback helmets that they've had in their past. Uh next year.
They just have to submit in the next a few

(29:13):
weeks uh to let them know, yes, we planned to
do this, And then suddenly you can see teams not
just wearing throwback unis, but throwback helmets in two and
this is so awesome news because I already thought of
the the uniform the helmets that I want the most
match the uniforms already thought on my top four that
I want to see the most. You're ready, he's the

(29:34):
ones I really I really need to see now. Obviously,
I want to see the Jets, right. I want to
see the eighties nineties throwbacks with the dark green helmet
with the word Jets and make it like a Jet logo.
The Jets did a lot of losing in those uniforms,
and I loved it. I mean that that's one of
my favorite things. I want to see comeback so easily,
you know, I want that Jets uniform to return. No,

(29:54):
that one's nice and easy. I mean that the classic
plane logo on the side of the helmet white. Uh, yeah, no,
it's good. I like the swashbuckling Tampa Bay Buccaneers logo
that we're gonna get. That's a good one. I mean,
come on, it's a pirate with a with a sword
through its teeth and it's winking at you. I mean
that's a pretty cool logo. I gotta say, you're gonna

(30:15):
get the creamsicle jerseys. I love those. Yeah, No, that
those are the best, like those are number one, well
or number two on any any list, because I'm already
getting the text from fans. Well in town here then
like you know what the best uniform. But here's the thing, like, well,
we'll get to those the best. Yeah, the Bucks that

(30:36):
look the Chargers. Yes, but we've seen all these throwback uniforms.
We've seen some of these throwback helmets. Recently, the Cowboys
have worn the white helmets with the blue star. We've
seen that. These are uniforms we haven't seen in quite
a long time. So we've seen that. I've seen the
the the buffalo bills one with the red bill on it.
I've seen the Patriots wear with pat Patriot on their helmets.

(30:57):
I've seen that these is this stuff we haven't seen
like thirty years. Like, oh, let's have this come back.
I want the oil Derrick for the you know for
that want is to where the oil that where the
powder blues and the oil Derek, which is one of
the best missed logos that we've seen. I want the
oil Derric logo. No, that's that is a classic. And
then we can get just a lot of footage of

(31:18):
guys running over people because when winter l Campbell rule
ruled the world and well even Eddie George for a
little while there. Um, what what about the Patriots, you
know when they got blitzed by Bears. Yeah, I mean
the red, white, and blue is nice. It's kind of
the color rush thing. But like we've seen pat Patriot,

(31:39):
you know, like in a football we've seen that. We
need pot the last one. I like that. I really
want to see. It's like I said, it's kind of
a weird one, but I really want the Bengals where
it was just the orange helmet with the word Bengals
on the side. I don't know why, but I just
love those. I want whenever you went and they had
the gumball machine with the quarter, you know, many helmets,

(32:01):
and you got the Bengals, You're like, what is this
white helmet with just this little sticker on it? This sucks?
I mention, those are really rare right now. I haven't checked,
you know, the supply on eBay, but I'm sure the
Bengals all got tossed. But I just I don't know why.

(32:22):
I just love those. It's it's very simple. It's just orange,
and it just says like they like like like they
took off individual stickers and just put up on the
we need we need a lot of bees. This isn't even,
this isn't even. I'm out of geez, who's got a
g I'm misspelled. It's sorry. I don't know why, but
I just have such a fascination with that Bengals. I

(32:45):
really want to see those albums, probably more than any
other one, even more than the Jets. I want to
see that Bengals helmet. Think about that Joe Burrow running
around winging it with that on Twitter. And how about
a Fresco Mike gets swollen dome, the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend in Mike artment. So there you go.
Jets in the eighties, nineties, the swashbuckling Tampa Bay logo,

(33:06):
the Houston Oil Derek and the word Bengals. There you go.
That's what we gotta see.
