Speaker 1 (00:01):
Oh Man, Charlamagne, you've given Dunky a day to who
now were not you buster?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay unless the assistant tells us something else. But Donkey
today for Friday, January seventeenth goes to twenty two year
old Malaysia Lee and Malaysia is from Charlotte, North Carolina.
Salute to the seven oh four dropping the clues bombs
for Charlotte Mack.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
One of the reasons, one of the reasons.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
That I've chosen to be a mental health advocate is
because I want us as humans to learn how to.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Control our emotions.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Easier said than done, I know, but today's Donkey is
a prime example of it's not what happens to you,
but how you react to it that matters. That's why
you know, going to do that internal work on yourself matters, okay,
because you can get to that place where you realize
you don't have to match energies baby, and you realize
you don't have to take everything personally. Because, as Don
Miguel Rowie says in one of my favorite books, to

(00:51):
four Agreements, whatever happens around you, don't take it personally.
Nothing other people do is because of you. It is
because of themselves. Malaysia could have used that advice. See
she could have used that second agreement because Malaysia was
an employee at Wendy's in the seven oh four and
according to store manager's a thirty one year old homeless
man named Alandro Alandro, Yeah, Alandro Romero Santos came in

(01:15):
the restaurant requesting free food. Okay, the news report said
he was homeless, so clearly he wasn't having the best day.
After the manager provided him with a cup of water,
Santos allegedly used the cup to fill it up with soda.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Instead Pepsi coke, sprite fanta.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
I don't know what his soda a choice was, but
when Santos went to the restroom, the manager threw.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
The cup away.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Why okay, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Let the man have his cup if he wants, you know,
to get free refills.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Who cares?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
In fact, give him some of those hot fries in
the cheeseburger and tell him keep it moving.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
The man was homeless.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Now, granted, you can't make a habit of that because
you will have people coming to the store doing that
all the time. But if you see someone in need,
at least attempt to help. In this case, you didn't help.
In fact, you're clearly hurt because when Santos came out
the bathroom, he got mad. He got upset because the
manager threw the cup aways. So he went to the
parking lot, found another cup, and returned to the store

(02:07):
to fill it with soda once again. Now, of course
the manager didn't like that you went outside and found
a cup in the parking lot to fill it back
up with soda. By the way, that's nasty, okay, that
is disgusting, all right. That's how you know desperate times
called a desperate message. Somebody might have have to have
spit fliming that cup, okay, and tossed it before they
left the parking lot. Might have been rolling a blunt,
you know how it is sometimes when you're out somewhere

(02:28):
and you sitting in the.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Car, roll it up.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
You know, you got a little cup from the from
a fat food restaurant. You put the blunt guts in
that cup, spitting it, you know, toss it. That's why
using a cup he found in the parking lot as gross.
But according to this article, he's also homeless, so I'm
not judging. But Santos got mad at the manager. So
then Santo's threw the soda at Malaysia, who is sitting

(02:50):
in the restaurant with the manager. Now, when I heard
this story, I said to myself, I think that's the soap.
I'm not the highest grade weed in the dispensary, noring
am I illegal expert, But that feels like in a soat.
It's not punch, a slap, a push, but it is
an attack. Okay, there's a reason Sprite Rhymes would fight. Okay,
that is a man throwing a drink on a woman.
So I did some research, and by research, I mean

(03:10):
I asked chat GPT it.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Is throwing a drink on a woman considered assault?

Speaker 2 (03:14):
And chat GPT said yes, throwing a drink on someone,
including a woman, is generally considered assault our battery under
the law, depending on the jurisdiction. Well, we need to
lock up everyone on reality TV. Okay, from Loving Hip
Hop the Real Housewives, round them all up, all right, Yes,
Malaysia was assaulted, and Malaysia did what a lot of
people doing the Carolina's North for South. Okay, when they
get assaulted, she went to her car. Okay, she didn't

(03:37):
have an honors she went and got her pistol. Now,
I don't know why the dude Santo stood there and
waited for her to come back, but I guess he
didn't expect this young lady to have a pistol, but
she did. And Malaysia came back in the store, chased
Islandro outside and shot at him three times, hit him
once in the head while he was driving. Yes, this
homeless man had a car, okay, and Malaysia shot the
car up and hit him in the head. And she

(03:59):
was charged with a sault with deadly weapon would intent
to kill and discharging the firearm into occupied property.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
And she is in custody.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
And she's in custody at the Mecklenburg County Jail under
a quarter million dollar bond. Now, I tell you folks
all the time, you cannot tell someone how to react. Okay,
I might push you and your response might be to
pull out a gun and pop me. Well guess what,
I shouldn't have pushed you. There is cause and effect
to everything. But your uncle Shawla also tells you that
when faced with certain situations, you have to start doing.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Jail math in your head.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Okay, you literally have to calculate how much time you
could possibly get if you do said crime. You have
to calculate in your head if you can afford to
do what it is you're about to do. See Malaysia.
I'm not mad at you for going to get your pistol.
He was assaulted. I feel like owning a legal firearm
in this country and knowing how to use it as
a form of self care. But here's my issue and
why you're getting the biggest he hall. It's because you
didn't do your jail math Malaysia. You had plenty of

(04:47):
time to think about your choice. I understanding this man
threw sold on you, and I'm glad you were able
to go to your car to get your gun, But
the gun should have been there to protect you from
the situation escalating further.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Are maybe even the whole demand water Cops.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
I'm not expecting you to be a vigilante hero in
this situation, but I just wanted you to move with
a little less emotion.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Okay, you gotta be strategic.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
I understand you were upset because he threw a drink
on you, and who knows what else you know what's
going on in his life or even in your life,
But you went and got that pistol, he saw you coming,
he hauled ass, got this car, and you let off shots.
I can even understand that to a certain extent, because
he might have been going to his car to get
his weapon.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
But in this case, according to reports, he was driving off.
Let him go.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
I know, hindsight is twenty twenty, and it's easy for
me to say because I wasn't in this situation, but
let him go. Hell, you could even let one off
in the air, just to let him know you will
bust your gun. But shooting in his car three shots, gunshot,
warning to the head while he's driving off.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
You should have started doing that jail math in your head. Man.
Luckily he's not deceased.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
But now you're sitting in the county with a quarter
million dollar baill. I'm not counting your pockets, but you're
twenty two in work at Windy's. I doubt you got
a quarter million all the twenty five thousand, because most
bonds are ten percent.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
I doubt you have either.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
But that's why jail math works, and you have to
calculate these scenarios in your head before you make decisions. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division,
how long will I be gone if I do this?
How much money will it cost me if I do this?
Subtract your emotion from things and ask yourself, is it
worth it if I do this?

Speaker 1 (06:17):
The answer is no.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
You are in jail right now simply because a man
wanted a free soda.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Let him have it.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
It is not worth ending up in jail over a
free soda in free fast food. I mean, come on, like,
who who would go to jail for a free soda
and free fast food?

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Wow? Play steam music?

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Okay, guys here, mid size Mac is here, mid size
Mac is here?

Speaker 1 (06:48):
How are you? How are you? Mid size Mac? Hungry?
What Mac?

Speaker 3 (06:53):
I know?

Speaker 1 (06:53):
I knew as soon as I said something about foods
was gonna walk in here.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
This is I don't understand how I'll keep telling you
all that the big bags of biting back. Nothing is
worth any of this, and not even just because, like
you said, the jail mask.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Every black person knows we all have the.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Same matra at work. I don't get paid enough for this. Yeah,
I'm with you, defending that I don't get paid enough
for this. You want to steal from home depot. I
don't get paid enough for this. You gotta keep you
just got to tell yourself in the back of your
mind constantly because that will prevent you from having to

(07:28):
do the jail mask.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
So even if they throw the food on you with
a soda on you, you still like, well, I'm the
wrong person asked that somebody throw food at.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Me and this is a game. What else you got?

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Please give Malaysia Lea the biggest he huhed Jesus.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Trying many glazy catch.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
That I said, somebody throw it at him? What else
you got?

Speaker 3 (07:53):
God? A party in your four plays?

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Crazy?

Speaker 3 (08:01):
That's like you hr here. They did get paid enough
for this, all right? Thank you Glzzy ketches showing me
think you that dog?

Speaker 5 (08:09):
Indeed, now, speaking of guzzy ketches, oh my.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
God, how I've been waiting for this day. Listen.

Speaker 2 (08:15):

talked about it.

Speaker 1 (08:38):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
