Speaker 1 (00:00):
Man yesterday. It was a really bad day for him,
and this is what he did. And so we are
in a state of emergency. Okay.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
White supremacist violence, it is always has been the number
one threat to our society. But I'm also very proud
that my wife was white.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
The practice club bitches all rich Ronny, Please tell me
why was I your donkey of the day.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
The way things are going, They're gonna sign an executive
order to make me change that intro soon. But Donkey
of today for Tuesday, February eighteenth goes to the US
Department of Education. Well, well, should I say Donald Trump's
US Department of Education. Now, if you haven't been paying
attention to what's going on in the world, because it
hasn't popped up on Shade Room just yet, let me
be the first to tell you that Donald Trump in
the Department of Education have decided to eliminate all race

(00:44):
based programs in schools.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Okay, and they got fourteen days to get rid of it,
that's right.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
The Department of Education plans to cut funding for initiatives
that address racial disparities in education. They will penalize schools
that consider race in scholarships, hiring.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
And a bunch of other activities. Okay, they warned schools that.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
They risk losing federal funding if they continue to take
race into account when making scholarship or hiring decisions.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Are so much as nodded to race.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
In all of the aspects of student, academic and campus life. Oh,
I can't make this kind of stuff up. Let's go
to the National Desker to report.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Police Doze's newest target diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the
Department of Education, identifying seventy DEI training grants amounting to
three hundred and seventy three million dollars. According to Doze,
one such grant trained teachers to engage in self reflection
to confront their own biases and racism. This comes as
the Department of Education continues its crackdown on DEI programs

(01:41):
and policies in schools. On Friday, the acting Assistant Secretary
sent out a letter reminding institutions any discrimination based on race, color,
or national origin is illegal, adding institutions failing to comply
with federal civil rights law face potential loss of federal funding.
Critics to respond, what does this mean?

Speaker 4 (02:02):
Are they going to take away funding from historically black colleges.
Are they going to take away funding from public schools
that have a Latino student union? To me, it indicates
just the fanatical obsession that this administration has in terms
of going against DEI.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
This is America twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
You know, America's core values allegedly have always been liberty, equality.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
And justice.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
These values are supposed to be the foundation of American democracy.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
But they aren't, okay, never have been.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
It's liberty, equality, injustice for white men, and then there
is the rest of us, all right. In fact, the
only reason things like affirmative action exists is because government
needed a remedy for the effects of long standing discrimination
in this country. Now, somebody needs to explain to me
what's changed, Okay, In a country with systemic racism is
literally rooted in every institution, the solution is now to

(02:57):
pretend that racism and other forms of discrimination just lead
don't exist.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Let's go back to.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Doing things the way they were being done before these
race based programs existed. So let's go back to doing
what caused us to have to come up with the
race based programs to begin with. This is all part
of a broader agenda to remove what they call wokeness
from American education. And look, I don't care for wokeness either. Okay,
I believe most woke people just simply need some sleep.
But the reality is wokeness and programs designed to level

(03:26):
the playing field for marginalized students are not the same. Okay,
you can't just scrip away those programs. That's like having
a leaky roof and you decided to fix that leaky
roof by removing the roof entirely. That would make no sense. Now,
this is also the latest step in the Trump administration's
move to reshape programs intended to make things equal for
historically underserved populations as a form of racial discrimination.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Craig Trainer, who's.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
The Education Department's Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, said,
related programs and scholarships, many of which have historically helped
black and Latino students attained college degrees. Our fine community,
had come at the expense of white and Asian students,
many of whom come from disadvantage backgrounds. Now, let me
read to you a quote from Craig Trainer, because this

(04:13):
is interesting, he said, and I quote. At its core,
the test is simple. If an educational institution treats a
person of one race differently than it treats another person
because of that person's race, the educational institution.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Violates the law. Well, god damn, how many.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Institutions of treating white people differently and giving them preferenceal.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Treatment over every other? Other?

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Okay, Trainer says put simply, educational institutions may neither separate
or segregate students based on race, nor distribute benefits. Are
burdens based on race. I could be wrong because I
am not the highest grade of weed in the dispensary.
But we got to these race based programs. We implemented
things like affirmative action to make sure that policies and

(04:55):
programs gave limited preferences to minorities and women, not just
institutions of higher education, with job hiring, awarding a government contract,
to other social benefits. They had to implement these things
because if they didn't, white privilege would rule everything around me.
Education is supposed to be the great equalizer, But how
can it be when the very programs aimed at uplifting

(05:15):
the underserved are being dismantled. Donald Trump and the Department
of Education are sending a very clear message and that
message is that few niggas right, they aren't interested in
addressing the real issues of inequality in our schools. Instead,
they would rather gaslight us, tell us we trip in
sweep to inequality under the rug, and then tell us
to act like we don't see the lump.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
So all these colleges that offer.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Scholarships and grants specifically for students of certain ethnic backgrounds,
all that's just gone. Schools are just barred from using
race and decisions pretending to admissions and hiring and promotion, compensation,
financial aid, scholarships, prizes, administrative support, discipline, housing, graduation ceremonies,
and all the other aspects of student academic and campus life.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Who is going to be policing this?

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Okay, what about America in twenty twenty five should make
any of us believe we can trust people to do
the right thing in regards to prejudice and discrimination, Because
if you ask me, what the Department of Education is
currently doing is indeed prejudice and discrimination. And you know
the main reason we should teach the true history of
America so we don't repeat all mistakes. Winston Churchill once

(06:24):
said those who fail to learn from history are doomed
to repeat it.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
We have learned nothing, and so here we are.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Please let Kathy Griffin give the Department of Education the
biggest he hall.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Please give this giant jar male the biggest he hall.
It's cold world, cold world, crazy, all right, We'll thank
you for that. Donkey of to Day.

Speaker 2 (06:49):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
