Speaker 1 (00:02):
I'm a homegirl that knows a little bit about everything
and everybody.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
You know, if you don't lie about that.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Right, Hey, y'all, what's up. It's Laura Rosa and this
is the Latest with Lauren Rosa. We got a lot
to talk about, we got some chairman's and some things
to discuss. Let's get right on into the news to
get so hopping right on into the latest, you guys
might have seen the interview that we did at the
(00:29):
Breakfast Club with Dame Dash and I mean, yeah, I
was gonna try and describe it or like sum it
up real quick before I kind of get into you know,
my reaction to it. And this right here is like,
you know, we only got but so much time here
at the podcast. You know, it's quick news bites. The
Latest with Laura Rosa is your daily dig on all
(00:50):
things pop culture, entertainment, news, and all of the conversations
that shake the room. Baby. So make sure you follow
me on social media Lauren L. Rosa everywhere. That's a
N L O R O s A everywhere, because I'll
be keeping you updated, you know, as this story develops
and other things. We covered a ton of other things
as well, I'll be doing a bit more reactionary things
(01:12):
because there are some funny parts of the interview that
I wanted to react to that I just thought were
funny at a person that was in the room. So okay,
let me just give some background context of this interview
Dame Dash at the Breakfast Club. So you guys know,
I come from TMZ. I was, you know, at TMZ
for some years. A part of what you do in
any newsroom as a journalist is you develop contacts. When
(01:33):
you develop contacts, it's normally because these are people that
you have been working with, that you've been reporting on
a lot of times, you know you're not speaking to
them directly. So I have so much I have so
many strong relationships with publicists and managers and that whole
thing agents. But a lot of times, you know, there
(01:53):
are different influencers, celebrities who speak directly for themselves. Dame
Dash is one of those people. So I'd begin, you know,
having conversations via work with Dame back at TMZ, and
it was solely just, hey, this story is about to
be posted, you know, because it was a lot of
conversations around like money and his finances and things like that.
(02:17):
And like we see Dame Dash today and like you know,
there's all the boss jokes and all the things. But
I think everybody at some point looked at Dame Dash
and you know, we all know the history. We all
know the story.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Right.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
So for me coming into a newsroom where you know
it's not hip hop focused, but you know, being a
black person in the newsroom that isn't There's a lot
of stories in a lot of times where you know
things are happening, and I would be the person to
reach out to anything in relation to hip hop because
I was the black girl in the newsroom, right, hate
(02:51):
that title, but it was the truth. It was the
honest truth. Like I mean, I was there, shout out
to Trent, who is TMZ hip hop right now? Raquel
and Van were there before me and were there while
I was there and ended up leaving. But I say
all this to say there I had a I built
a working relationship with Dame Dash in that way solely
just Hey, here's the news that's about the drop. Let
(03:13):
me know if you want to respond now from that.
You know, when I decided to venture out on my
own and do my thing via bronco grinding and social media,
same thing I keep. Whether they're brand new contacts at
this point or you know, these are people that cause
a lot of people too. I was working with prior
to being at TMZ, but when I got there, I
was in conversation with them more because I'm doing more
(03:35):
news things, right, But whether it's a contact that I
was working with, there somebody that I deal with because
I met them in this new space at the Breakfast
Club and you know, doing the things I do on
my own independently with Bronco Grinding and the Latest with
Lauren n Rosa, I'm always going to reach out to you.
So I do that with Dame often. And if you've
listened to this podcast, if you've watched The Breakfast Club,
(03:56):
you know that anytime I report on anything dam Dash,
especially because out of the stuff, you know, I feel
like when it comes up, we know what the conversation is,
we know the jokes that come I'm always you know,
I've been trained to always, as best as I can
and as accurately as I can, present both sides of
the stories. Sometimes you have it where people don't want
(04:17):
to talk to you. Sometimes you have it where you
know people want to go to another outlet, whatever the
case may be. But when I can do it in
a perfect world, I'm talking to both sides, and I
let people know, hey, transparently, I'm reaching out to both sides.
Even on this when this Dame Dash interview dropped and
Dame Dash claimed several things that he was, you know,
going to be the new chairman of Revolt, that he
(04:39):
was going to use what he's doing with putting content
on Revolt right now and being the chairman to then
acquire Revote. At some point when he talked about being
in a previous conversation about acquiring BT the bankruptcy stuff,
I let him know, Hey, these people, you know that
we're being told that this stuff is not true. Any
(05:00):
time I've worked with him, it's always been very apparent.
A lot of times I come to him like yo,
sometimes I can't always disclose who I spoke to, us,
I spoke to whoever. Here's the fact of the of
the matter. There's been times when Dame has pushed back
on me and said things like he's told me things
weren't true, or he's pushed back on me. I remember
one time he said to me, I thought you had
(05:20):
no he said you're normally better than that. I thought
you'd go directly to the paperwork, the documents, because as
much as I can, I don't want to rely on
nobody tell me nothing. I want to go and get
it myself. So if I can get online and pull
Court Docks or you know, reach out to a network
directly or whatever I can do, I'm always going to
try and do that. And I had to, you know,
(05:41):
in that moment when he tried to push back in
that way on something different, I said, oh, it's in
the court Docks, I can send it to you, send
some docs whatever. We talked through it. So that's been said.
This is not my first time interacting with Dame, but
this is my first time being in a room during
an interview. And I will say I wasn't ready. He
wasn't ready. I mean I knew, you know what I mean,
(06:02):
Like I know, Dame is entertainment like that, that's just
what it is. He knows what to do, how to
do it, how to talk, how to know, you know,
how to get the people going. But I did think
that at some point the conversation would get constructive, and
I think we did try and get like, you know,
our few constructive, like solid real questions in But baby,
(06:24):
was I not ready? So let's get to what Dame
is throwing my way right now. As we're filming right now,
all of the reaction and the fallout from the Dame
Dash interview was happening. So I got people hitting me
from everywhere and different you know things that we're mentioned,
and you know, cause what people don't understand is that
no branding, no business wants to have anything not correct
(06:46):
surrounding their brand and their business. When you're a brand
or you're a business, you're in the business of narrative.
So Dame Dash came on the Breakfast Club and he
said these things.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
I'm now the chairman of the Vault right now, and
I also I have fifteen I got you. So I'm
now the chairman of Revolt with a pathway, you see,
because he wants to trigger me and I want you
to acknowledge that. So I'm now Cam's boss, the chairman
of Revolt with a pathway to acquisition. I've been trying
to buy a.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Deadline.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Can you stop? Can you stop into recte me please?
Deadline wasn't didn't make the announcement for this particular situation.
They didn't want to. I had an announcement I was
going to make with BT, but Paramount stepped in and
they said do it later, and they didn't want to
be a part of this mess. It will be in something.
You know, this gets played tomorrow, so the announcement will
be in the trades tomorrow. I've been trying to buy
(07:39):
Revolt and I also just did a twenty five episode
deal for my podcast for Bosses Take Losses, and I'm
putting on my content on Revolt Dope.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Now. Once this was posted, so it's close to be
ET got back to me and said completely not true.
Dame Dash has never been in conversations about acquiring BET.
I hit Dame Dash and I say, hey, look, just
letting you know. I spoke to a source close to
BT who was telling me you were never in conversation
to acquire BT. I then let him know before I
(08:13):
posted any statement. Before anything. Revolt Television is saying that
you being chairman. It's not true, and I think they're
going to make a statement now. Time went by. We're
still fully filming the Breakfast Club right, so time went
by cause I don't like the whole you're lying, which
I mean, I'm not tripping. People do this all the time,
(08:33):
like this is when you want your narrative to go.
You want your narrative go. That's not my thing. But
what I do always want to provide is clarity, information
and valid sources, and that is what I do. So
this is what you're watching right now. So again I
let Dame Dash know, Hey, Revolt TV just said this
to me. I'm letting you know. And I'm also I
(08:54):
also asked him, let me know if you would like
to say something in response, so that when I post
television telling me that you are not chairman, I can
also say and here's Dame Dash's response to that, fair enough,
so they both can get picked up at the same time.
Fair enough. Basically, he said that was BS. He said
it was BS to the BT situation. He said that
(09:16):
he had proof that he could show me. He said
he had to FaceTime me to show me the proof.
I told him, like, look, just send me whatever proof
you have. I'm willing to look at it and go
through it. And I always update with both sides of
the stories. I don't have a dog in a fight here,
Like you know, my job is to just tell the story.
And to do it in a way that is factual
and that provides some clarity. He was insisting that I
FaceTime him in order to clear that up, which at
(09:38):
the time too, we're still filming filming the show, so
I can't do. So I let him know what the
statement was going to be. So then it went from
him being the chairman to him saying to me, oh,
I'm the chairman for the month, and he posted on
his Instagram. First he posted to Charlemage. He says, Charlemagne,
I would advise you not to make up phony sources
with our real names, saying that anything I said was
(09:58):
not true, or we will have a lead. Do not
try to compromise my reputation. I have prooved to support
everything I say that will stand up in any court.
Then he posted my tweet, which again I text him
long before I posted this tweet to let him know
that this is what was being said and give him
opportunity to either respond to counter to anything. Dame Dash
(10:19):
posts my tweet and he says, here goes the bullshit.
I'm the chairman for the month. If I acquire I
would be official chairman. Please stop playing with the words.
Just take that l then he posted a Vibe article
and mind you remember in our interview we asked, because
he said things are not real unless deadline or you know,
(10:39):
something like that announces it. And we act, would there
be anything announced because he was making all these announcements
on the Breakfast Club. Would there be anything announced in
any in deadline or anywhere else. And he's like, no, deadline,
didn't want to do the story right. So then this
Vibe article pops up and the Vibe article says, Dame
Dash name Revolt TV chairman, unveils my paid in full
(11:00):
docuseries trailer right, and the Vibe article continues. Damon Dash
has been named Chairman of a Vault TV, a position
the entrepreneur and executive were helm for the duration of
one month. On Tuesday, September sixteenth, the fifty four year
old in the network announced the appointment, which is effective
immediately and will see Dash bringing content from his own platform,
(11:21):
American New Network to Revolt TV. In addition to his
duties as chairman, dashes partnership with revalt TV includes simulcasting
twenty five episodes of Dashes podcast Bosses Staate Losses, hosted
by the mogul himself. Reval TV will also stream a
significant portion of dash His catalog on the platform, including
but not limited to his forthcoming docuseries My Paid in Full.
(11:41):
The project will be driven from Dash's personal perspective of
the Paid in Full era and spotlight various figures who
were present during the events that were depicted in the
two thousand and two film which Dash is spearheaded. And
then there are some quotes here about the Paid in
Full doc and all the stuff. So then Dame Dash
posts the loss Has Take Losses trailer, which he says
(12:02):
is with Revolt via the American New Network. Now, granted,
all of this time has been by and Revolt still
has not said anything. Revolt has besides what they said
to me, which is that Dame Dash is not the chairman.
And I want to make it clear because Dame dashaid
I was twisting his words. Let's listen to the words
that he said out of his mouth. Do you hear
the words that are coming out of my mouth? I
(12:23):
heard them. Let's take a listen, you understand them.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I wanted y'all to bomb on me because I knew
all these announcements were coming. Now, anybody else makes an announcements,
they're great. But if Dame dashah, it's a little thing.
Oh you're not the chairman like I am. I'm about
to buy you. Understand what I'm saying. I don't play.
I've been trying to buy a Revolt for two years.
I tried to buy Beet. I just play a different game.
See the game I play. You don't make money every
day you get licks. It takes ten years to make
(12:47):
a company and sell it. You have to have even die.
You sold by a by a multiple.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
And then as things progress, Dame changed what he said
in the Breakfast Club interview in text and said for
a month, as far as I know, And when I
talked to Revolt, I said chairman at all at any
point they said no. They doubled down no, the one month,
the anything no, And at first the conversation was he's chairman,
(13:12):
and then when the Vibe article dropped, he leaned into
for a month now. Granted, I don't know if maybe
you know there was some sort of like here's what
they were trying to make happen or whatever. But my source,
who is leading narrative for a Revolt television it says
(13:34):
it's not happening. Not only do they say it's not happening,
they also say it's not even happening for a month.
That is, there's nothing locked in at this moment. At
this point, I am dumbfounded with like why we are
even here, Like what is happening? I'm very confused. I
am extremely confused. And I think one of my biggest
(13:56):
things too is just if you were if you are
looking to do business and Dame does business, like you know,
that's his thing. Another one of my things too is
is like you know, I think with the whole bankruptcy thing,
and when Dame said we don't understand bankruptcy because we
don't file for it, I don't think that that's a
black people thing. I think there is you know, financial
like literacy needed in our community. I know that I
(14:19):
used to work for a credit bank, but I think
people in general, unless you've done a certain amount of business,
or you've been in a certain amount of debt, not
even from business, just from life, you don't understand what
a bankruptcy is and how it works. But most everyday
people do not. So right now you're in the interview
and you're speaking on what you have, what you don't have,
(14:42):
and you freshly just told a judge I only got
a little over four thousand dollars to my name. I
can't afford to pay this debt. I wouldn't be no
interview talking about nothing, not a thing. That'd be like
you broke, whoop you do? You ain't got no money, Dame.
If I was damed Ash, you couldn't pay me to
get on a platform about my finances right now, because
(15:02):
if you know, everything clears through this bankruptcy, which is
the goal. I mean, he does make out at least
back at you know, in the clear where he can,
like he talked about in the Breakfast Club interview, he
can then go on to do whatever it is he
plans to do, and he's doing it without all of
this debt that has come on his back. I get that,
(15:24):
but it's not smart to sit and talk about what
you have while telling a judge in a court document
that you don't have it. Why would you not think
that somebody would try and use that against you, like
the attorney who is that they're pushing back y'all that
the morning that Dame Dash came to the Breakfast Club,
(15:45):
I received a document that was filed by Chris Brown,
just about them pushing back on the bankruptcy filing because
they don't believe that Dame Dash is telling the truth
in the filing for several different reasons. They bring up
dresses that they say, you know, are fraudulent, that are
listed in his bankruptcy filing. They bring up you know,
(16:06):
you know, what he says he has, and they believe
that he has more. I would just be being so careful.
And again this is just me explaining my side of
things at this point because Dame trying to take me
to the cleaners as a liar and all these things.
But I will say Dame Dash knows because and that's
why I explained what my working relationship is. Anytime I'm
(16:28):
working on a story and I'm working with these sources
and I'm, you know, doing other things, whether I can
say someone's name on record or not, I go about
the process the same way. I'm reaching out to all
parties involved all the time, talking to them, trying to understand,
trying to get context, trying to understand what the color
of the situation is, so that as I'm providing information,
(16:49):
I'm providing it in a way that tells the whole story,
because I think that's important, especially when I would never
want to be the reason that Dane Dash can't go
do a business deal, if that's what he's really I
would never want to be. I don't care how much
you laugh, you joked, you whatever. Nobody feels good being
the reason why somebody can't go and do something that
they're set out to do that will help feed their family. Ever. So,
(17:11):
I never want to be that person. But one thing
I'm not is a liar. And it's very convenient that
I'm a liar right now. But when Dame needs to
feed the streets with his music or you know, his
side of the story, I'm good at what I do.
It's all love still, I mean, I guess I don't know.
This interview got me confused as hell. If you have
(17:31):
not watched at this point, please go take a very
sit down, you know, pour you some wine, turn the
lights down, load, and watch Dame Dash on the Breakfast Club,
the most recent interview that we did. Because baby, it
is some things endure and I'm just very confused. I
(17:51):
am extremely confused. I don't know why why stir pot
this way for no reason? I just don't get it. Listen,
this is the latest with Lauren de Rosa. And at
the end of the day, there's always a lot to
