Am thrown off because on Sundays you sit in the

what is different about this picture?
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Why different? Today? Have seen the movie Twins? Yes, that's us,
that is it. We're just yeah, we're playing DANTR second here,
we're wait a second here, Okay, we're gonna get to

you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free

road as a protection. You know over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tirec dot com the way tire buying should be. I've
never seen the movie Twins. It's Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito,
but I would also know the premise that one guy
is the big, tall, masculine one and then the other
one is the small, tiny, but they're twins, so there's
(01:55):
this dynamic that one is just extremely better than the other.
And listen, I get it, I get it, but I
just didn't think we had to go to the Twins level.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
No, listen what you're saying, it's correct on the premise.
If you're on the peripheral looking but Danny Debitto was
demacho one and the tough one in that film, and
Arnold Swarzenegga was you know, he was a little bewildered
and out of his elements. So we take that as
a compidence. Okay, maybe I'll watch it this watch it.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, it's a classic. I'm definitely gonna skip college basketball
to watch Twins. Oh no, you're not thirty five years
definitely going to happen. Carrie and I are going to
be with you for the next two hours as we
are in for the vacation in Cavino and Rich and
Spot and Danny g but we got the whole crew
with us. By the way, are you ready, because in
(02:41):
eighty minutes or so, you are going to go head
ahead with Iowa. Sam MONCEI and I are going to
host a brand new game. It's going to be called
Initial Dissent.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
As long as it's not anything IOWA related, I'm good.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Forty minutes that comes up in forty eight weeks. That's
forty minutes from now where we talk about the dismissal
of Fran McCaffrey as the head basketball coach at IOWA,
which happened earlier today. What a way to go out.
That's in forty minutes right now, we talk about the
news that is just breaking within the last hour that
the NFL Network is reporting the Cincinnati Bengals have made
(03:23):
significant progress on new deals for not only t Higgins,
who has that franchise tag, but also Jamar Chase. So
the Cincinnati Bengals could be bringing back not one but
the top two favorite targets for one Joe Burrow.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Yeah, they're doubling down on offense, winning games and winning
super Bowls. And that's just I mean, as obviously it
looks good. It's gonna help help their quarterback Joe Burrows
to continue to play at the level he's playing. That
but that we saw that last year scored a ton
of points. We're in a lot of games and could
have won a lot of those games, and obviously the
season could have looked differently. But defensively they struggled. But
(04:04):
the one person that didn't struggle was Trey Hendrickson. And
if they're really close to deals for their big time receivers,
it's gonna be a lot of money. So that means
there's not gonna be enough money to go around for Trey.
So looks like Trey is gonna be heading out, and
I mean, they're gonna try to win games, but it's going.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
A lot of points. And he has requested a trade.
He's gonna be in the final year of his deal
and has wanted out of Cincinnati. And this also on
the heels of the Max Crosby deal in the Miles
Garrett contract. Yes, and Trey Hendrickson, I think he's making
sixteen eighteen million dollars for twenty twenty five and you're
seeing other edge rushers get thirty five million dollars. I
(04:43):
don't think he's gonna get Miles Garrett money at forty
million dollars or not think so either, But I think
that Trey Hendrickson should be asking for that. He lived
the NFL in sacks this past year, like there's there's
value to it. It is the decision of the Cincinnati
Bengals and carry if I'm sensing correctly. I don't want
to put words in your mouth, so I'll let you
say it. Yeah, are you? Are you in the sense
(05:06):
that the Bengals are now just extremely top heavy because
of where they are on offense, and that isn't sustainable
If you want to win a Super Bowl is the
Is that the sense that I'm getting from you.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah, that's that's exactly what I'm saying. I mean, obviously, yes,
it's gonna sell tickets and Burrows and those guys, Burroughs
and Chase Higgins and you know, and and Chase, I mean, Chase,
thank you. They're gonna put up numbers. And they've they've
done that since they've been in the league, right, and
we've seen what that looks like. But we've also seen
when Cincinnati had a defense that was you know, I
(05:40):
think they were top ten that year or they're around
that like ten fifteen range where they can actually get
stops and get the ball back to their guys. They
made it to the Super Bowl, right, And so that's
the formula for them. They have to get to a
point where they're competing on that side of the ball,
because last year they couldn't even compete. And so if
you lose your top game wrecker on defense, that doesn't
bowl for you.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
I agree with what you're saying, and I'm actually on
the same page with you, and I'm not arguing or
I'm not playing Devil's advocate. I'm almost trying to figure
out a way to look at this from just a
different angle. But to your point of what you're saying,
last year was a bad year for lou Ana Rumo's defense,
so much so he's not even around anymore.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
He's out.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
His defensive coordinator Al Golden comes in from Notre Dame
to lead the Bengals defense. There were a lot of
players from that Super Bowl team in Super Bowl fifty
six on the defensive side of the ball that are
no longer in Cincinnati, A big, big you know, a
lot of moves made with players going in and out,
not the same defense at all. To coincide with what
(06:42):
you're saying, I think we saw last year what happens
when you have a top quarterback, top wide receiver and
a top wide receiver duo and no defense. We saw
that on display, And I actually think that last year
was best case scenario for Cincinnati in the fact of
you had Joe Burrow for the entire season. He had
(07:05):
to play at an MVP caliber where we were considering,
all right, they're nine and eight, they're not even gonna
make the playoffs, but is he really the MVP? Everything
had to go right. Jamar Chase had to be what
he is, the top wide receiver in the National Football League.
T Higgins has dealt with injuries time and again throughout
the last couple of years. That kind of happened in
(07:26):
twenty twenty four as well. But the point being is,
I think everything went right for the Bengals offensively, and
it was how bad they were on defense that they
maxed out at nine to eight. So to your point,
I'm wondering if nine and eight is your only max out,
if you decide to operate your franchise this way and
with the amount of dollars that you were assigning to
(07:48):
those three players, I don't know how you feel a
respectable defense.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah, that's the problem, right, And I think that's why
if you look at just roster organization and roster building
and teams that have long term success, they're able to,
you know, sometimes make tough decisions, which is maybe we
can't we can't pay two top receivers to stay here,
(08:13):
and that's part of the process, right. We can bring
in another guy that may be just a step down
from from you know, you know, from their second guy
and T Higgins and bring in guy to guys that
can be one guy that can be an outside guy,
guy that can be a slot guy that can be
really good for you and still hold that production and
also bring back your top defensive guys. So it's just
(08:34):
there's creative ways to do this and creative ways to
build and keep an organization in the place they need
to be. And I just don't think Cincinnati's brain trust
is having enough were athal when it comes to we
just can't keep everybody happy sometimes, and that's part of
the NFL.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
It's easy to give Joe Burrow what he wants or
what Chamar Chase. It's easy to do the easy thing, right,
doesn't mean it's always best for you. A lot of
times what's best for you isn't the easy thing. And
I think that's what we're saying here. I looked at
the NFL and looked at the wide receiver salary position.
There's one team in the National Football League that has
(09:12):
actually two teams. Two teams have two receivers on their
own team paid in the top ten. One is the
Philadelphia Eagles, AJ Brown and Devonte Smith. When it comes
to average annual salary, AJ Brown's average annual salary is
thirty two million dollars a year. Devonte Smith's is twenty
five million dollars a year, so they're both in the
(09:33):
top ten. But I don't think that we thought that
the Eagles won the Super Bowl because of their two
star wide receivers. No, the other team, the Miami Dolphins,
Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle. Wow. And I know I'm
not comparing two of Joe Burrow. Jie Burrow is a
better quarterback, and I think that Chase and t Higgins
are better wide receivers than that duo that they have
(09:56):
in Miami. But you can't take away what Tyreek Kill
has meant for the Dolphins over the last couple of years.
Even if twenty twenty four was a bit of a letdown.
Tyreek Hill at one point probably was the best wide
receiver in the NFL. And why did it get to
Miami Dolphins? And I think that's what you're saying this
is the Dolphins even have tried this and it hasn't
necessarily worked, and they've tried to do other deals. They
(10:16):
brought in Bradley Chubb from you know, in a trade
with Denver. They had a lot of assets at one point,
then they lost some of their assets, whether doing deals
or NFL even penalized them for the tampering of Tom Brady.
There's there was a lot there for Miami. But in
the end, they're like, we're gonna put our eggs in
this basket. We're gonna bring in Tyreek Hill, We've got
Jaalen Wahall, and we got to a Tongo baaloa. And
(10:38):
what do they have to show for it? A first
round wildcard exit in a road game against the Kansas
City Chiefs and the Bengals have already been to a
super Bowl. So you're looking at it and saying, great,
all right, Cincinnati, let's run it back again. I just
don't think it's sustainable. And I don't think that everything
can go right for Cincinnati like it did in twenty
twenty four when they didn't even make the playoffs. Like,
(10:58):
at some point you got to address your offensive line
as well, So you got to protect Joe Burrow, who
has I don't want to say been injury prone, but
it has been hurt throughout at times in his career. Right,
and now you've got that. I just wonder as well.
I just think they're kind of taking the easy way
out on this.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
And that, and what that does for a team. Right,
think about how good Joe Burrows was last year and
the numbers were remarkable and the stats and you know,
obviously one of the most explosive teams in the league.
But what that does for you is that puts constant
pressure on you to go out and do that thing,
to go out and do that, to score, to put
(11:35):
up big points and outscore teams. And so that what
happens in those situation is you play a good team.
When you're right there neck and neck, obviously the other
team's going to continue to score because your defense can't
stop anybody. So it puts pressure on those offensive guys
to almost overachieve every game because there's a level that
I think great players can play at play at consistently,
(11:57):
and that it's only two people on that team on Cincinnati,
even on the offense side of the ball, that is great. See,
Higgins is a really really, really good receip So if
he has any drop off and the Lion can't protect,
you're forcing two guys to go out and be superhuman
every game and you just can't do that. And so
that's what happened last year in the moments that really
count with him, how many cutch turnovers that Joe Burrows
(12:20):
have in those situations because he's trying to force the
ball in because he's not He's not going to get
the ball back if they don't get this touch down
with four minutes left in the game.
Speaker 1 (12:27):

What if this is a Dallas Maverick situation? Oh, here
(12:47):
we go. Sorry, I can't believe it, Bo, What are
you laughing at?
Speaker 3 (12:53):
So?
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Actually, I actually tried this out on Bowl in our
in our conversations pre show, and he did not laugh
in my face, so I did. So I think Bo
knows what's coming here. What about if it's more important
to Cincinnati to keep this trio than win a Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
And the fact of what keeping people in the seats
is what you're saying.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Yeah, like I felt when the Mavericks traded Luca, it
was so devastating that even winning a championship for Dallas
wouldn't make up for the fact that those Maverick fans
don't have Luca to cheer for anymore, because I felt
like he was so a part of that team and
then a part of that city that it winning a
(13:38):
championship without Luca wasn't going to be the same of
not only of them winning one with Luca, but of
just having Luca on that team. What about if Cincinnati
is saying, it's not that they're not going to compete
with Super Bowls, because when you have Joe Burrow, you
have a shot. You have a shot better than most
teams in the league because of where who your quarterback is.
That is undeniable. But the fact of them saying, we
(14:02):
could make all these moves, we could make these difficult decisions.
We could let t Higgins go, we could try to
go cheap, we could try to make trades, we could
invest the money somewhere else. Maybe they bring Trey Hendrickson back,
Maybe they don't. What the point is is they want
to keep this trio together because of what it means
to Cincinnati. Would that make any sense to you? I'm
calling it the the Luka Doncic Nico Harrison rule.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
It makes absolutely zero sense. Okay, all right, yeah, those
guys Joe Burrows. Obviously you can't lose a guy like that.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
T Higgins.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
I'm sorry. I know we want to pay him. I
know he's a really good receiver. He can go kick
rocks and we can bring in a couple of guys
that can feel that role. I'm just telling it's this,
And even for the protection of Joe Burrow going out
and trying to screw all these points, you're putting him
in a position to get hurt as well because they're
not sound. You got to be sound in the NFL
(14:58):
to win.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
All right, Okay. Another layer to this, Adam Schefter reporting
that Jamar Chase wants more than forty million dollars a year.
He wants, whether it be forty point one or forty
one million dollars, he wants to be the highest paid
non quarterback per average annual salary in the National Football League.
That hits your ear? Are you fine with Jamar Chase
(15:20):
being the highest paid non quarterback in the National Football League?
He'll be making if he got forty one million dollars
a year that's six million dollars more than the highest
paid wide receiver right now in the game annually, and
that's Justin Jefferson at thirty five million. No, you're not
good with that. No, so thirty eight is what you think?
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Yeah, what you just said. Six If he made one
dollar more than Justin Jefferson in theory, he should, he
should be happy and if he's really committed to winning,
and what we're talking about right now the conversation is
winning super Bowls. We know they can win games if
they want to do that. Sack off a little bit.
And I know they're young, and I know this is
(16:02):
this will be his first you know, I guess extended
big contract. He was the first round, top guy, so
he's gotten paid, but this will be the big one.
So I understand it. But there are dollars and there
are ways to construct this thing, and he can be
he can be re upped in the next offseason where
I mean he may thirty six point one. They can
move things around to where the annual salary goes up
(16:23):
the dollar amount with guaranteed in the next next season.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
There's ways to do it. The tricky part about it,
and I think that's a really good point. You're not
just trying to top Justin Jefferson, you're trying to top
Miles Garrett. But by by blowing past Justin Jefferson, the
next wide receiver that's up for the contract is not
going to reach forty one million dollars. They're going to
be very few. So Jamar Chase is going to be
(16:46):
the highest paid wide receiver if he gets set forty
one million dollars for a while in the National Football League.
So that isn't a team thing. That's not the Heatles
kind of taking different contracts in Miami to fit Lebron, Wade,
and Bosh. Not that they took extreme discounts, but everybody
wasn't maxed out. Some people took a little bit less year.
That's not what you're getting in Cincinnati. So maybe another
(17:08):
reason why it's not gonna work.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Would you guys feel differently about all of this if
it was a team other than the Bengals about to
allocate all these resources.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
That's I will say this. I know you're not getting
at this, but I've thought about this. I think them
going to the Super Bowl already allows them to do this,
Like it's like a hey, we made it to a
super Bowl already, when it's a weird way of thinking.
Usually you're putting all of your eggs in the basket
to get to that Super Bowl. Or for that point,
(17:39):
I'm almost thinking that they're saying, yeah, our kind of
work is done, not looking them at the Bengals as
the woe mee Bengals, the down trodden, the cheap Bengals.
I don't look at it like that. I look at
it just from a different angle of I think them
going to the super Bowl like they did three years
ago is enough for them to be like, all right,
(18:01):
we did our stuff. Pay us down. If it doesn't
work out, it doesn't matter because they've already got that
in their back pocket.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
I just feel like, when you're that team allocating all
those resources to really those three guys, you have to
be able to find good young defensive talent for cheap
in the draft, right. And the Bengals have six scouts
total in their organization, right, A team like the Rams,
who they play in the Super Bowl have twenty five,
And like, if you're the Bengals, how are you going
to find that cheap talent?
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Well, we gotta talk about think about it. We're talking
about the Bengals right under Marvin Lewis. They were very
content with him for a long long time of just
being competitive, a team that could, you know, make the
playoffs here and there and never won a playoff game.
Like it's crazy. He was there for how long, I know,
ten plus years and they never won a playoff game.
(18:50):
They made it a couple of times. So to your point,
being content with we already got our super Bowl could
be a thing, but I.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Just it just it irks me. They may and they were.
They were a penalty of fifteen yard late hit out
of bounds penalty from taking the Chiefs into overtime and
possibly beating them again. Oh yeah, yeah for sure.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
So it's so like all of that is gravy to
Bo's point.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Of only having six scouts, they need to hire me?
Then well, I mean, well I guess they don't have
any money, so probably.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
I was gonna say that was just like like to
his point, it's like that you better have better scouts
so you can find those diamonds in the rough. And
I think they're thinking, well, who cares who we get
because we can only pay him X amount anyway, and
if they're any good, we're probably not gonna be able
to keep them long term.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Dan and I can scout from home. I can do
I can do a home job. It can be really cool.
I can just look online and see, you know, look
at look at guys forty times and look how many
times they bench press and probably be a better upgrade.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Right, there's a theme I think you could. I think
you'd have to fit it in during your studio time
on scouting. There is the conversation that we've had over
the last fifteen years, I would say in the NFL,
and what star receiver has really led you to a
Super Bowl?
Speaker 5 (20:00):
Now?
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Cooper Cup I think obviously was worth his yes. Oddly
enough against Cincinnati and Super Bowl fifty six that ended
up happening if the Bengals hold on, so they're twenty
eight to three. Julio Jones, I think is a part
of that conversation, but really there hadn't been and I
think that the bigger question than was what duo of
wide receivers you had greatest show on turf with the
(20:22):
Rams and Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce when their Super
Bowl like they did in Super Bowl thirty four, you
had Reggie Wayne Marvin Harrison with the Colts in Super
Bowl forty one, but again in that game, outside of
a busted coverage from Reggie Wayne, it wasn't a great
offensive game for the Colts. It's also just the point of, yeah,
do you need great wide receivers to win a Super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (20:45):
And yeah? And to your point that ram one. I mean,
obviously Holt and Bruce were great, but the person on
that team that won them that Super Bowl and made
things so much easier for those guys wasn't either one
of them. It was Marshall fall Oh. Yeah, he comes
to the game and that's the number one guy you
gain planned for. Like, those guys were great, and I'm
(21:06):
not taking anything away from them. Their Hall of famers,
we know that. But Marshall Faulk was the main, the
main sticking point there. That's a good point. He's Carry Rhodes.
He's an All Pro for a reason. Finalment, Carry twenty
five roads. You can find me at Dan Byer on Fox.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
Are you still on? Ex bo? I can't remember you're on?
Speaker 3 (21:22):
You're off at Bono Jackson.

Okay, at Boonot Jackson. He's back. He is also blue Sky, Yes, he's.

I thought you were about to ask me if I
didn't know anything that was going on about that golf
you were talking about. I have no idea, so I
was gonna be like.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
You know about the Island Green at seventeen? Have you
heard about the Island Green at TPC Sawgrass? Okay, I
know I'm a golf fan, but I just I felt
like I asked the crew last night and I got
four blank looks at me. I thought it was much
more known in the world of sports of people who
aren't golf fans. But see they're at the seventeenth right now. Yeah,
(23:21):
and he's going to be hitting to an island green
that is one hundred and forty seven yards away, surrounded
ninety nine percent of it by water. It's gonna hold on.
It's gonna hold on, and it's gonna be a long putt.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
And hold on, hold on.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
That's what I tell my golf ball.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Yeah, hold on, that's what I noticed. I was like,
hold on, it's pretty water. I was like, it's a
lot of water around it. That's what I noticed. I
had the good fortune of playing TPC Sawgrass. It's been
a while, about fifteen years ago. I was the first
one out on a Monday, second one out. I passed
the group ahead of me on the fourth hole, so
I basically had the course to myself. And I saw
(23:59):
an alligator in the pond between sixteen and seventeen yep
is thinking its head out? Did you aim for it
with the ball?
Speaker 5 (24:07):
No?
Speaker 2 (24:07):
What were you thinking?
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Well, i'll tell you. When I hit the shot on seventeen,
I did land it on the green, but it rolled
back and was on the fringe and almost rolled into
the water. That's about where the pin was, to be honest,
where it is today, just like that ball. And my
ball stopped there and then I blew the putt ten
feet past because I'm like, it's a birdie putt. I
ended up three putting for a bogie. But I thought
the Island Green was much more popular in the entire
(24:30):
sports world than it is.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Eitherwise, you misjudged that one, just like Trey Henderson's market.
So I think, yeah, that's all right.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Well, I'll tell you if I ever go to TBC
Sawgrass again, I'm going to be rocking some Travis Matthew apparel.
That's you know and rich have been rocking lately. Travis
Matthew is apparel designed for your confidence and comfort no

(24:59):
All right, Manzi, let's give Carrie Rhodes is Duke Cooper
flag update because he's going to be rushing out of
here for the ACC semifinals. What is going on today, Monzi,
in the world of sports.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
Yeah, this just came out, but it should not be
a surprise that Cooper flag is out for tonight's ACC
semi final game against North Carolina because of that ankle injury.
Again not a surprise. The coach Hats said it was
a very long shot that he was going to be
able to play, and so he is officially out right
now in the SEC quarter final, you know, the Texas
(25:30):
Longhorns were given the Texas the Tennessee volunteers or run
for their money. But right now, a ranked Tennessee is
up sixty seven to fifty six with about seven minutes
to go in the game. Earlier in the SEC, Jeni
Broom had twenty three points and fifteen rebounds for third
ranked Auburn.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
They defeated Ole Miss sixty two to fifty seven.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
At the Big Ten quarterfinals, Number eighteen Wisconsin topped UCLA
eighty six to seventy. Well Number seven Michigan State outscored
Number twenty three Oregon seventy four to sixty four, and
at the a AC Quarterfinals, Number sixteen Memphis survived eighty
three to eighty against Wichita State. Iowa has parted ways
with coach Friend McCaffrey after fifteen seasons. He reached the
(26:10):
He reached seven NCAA tournaments and his fifteen years in a,
the school's all time leader and wins with two undred
and ninety seven. But Iowa finished seventeen and sixteen this year.
And the NBA Lakers are going to have nobody tonight.
No Lebron James, no Luca Donchez, no no jackson' Haayes,
Dorian Finney, Smith and gave Vincent are doubtful for tonight's
(26:31):
game in Denver.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
What about Michael Jones? I got to stretch it out there.
I may not make the Duke game.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Now, Brons name there?
Speaker 5 (26:41):
What?
Speaker 3 (26:41):
I didn't hear Brownie's name there?
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Ronnie's name is not in there, so he might.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
He might be a starting that is for sure.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
And in the NFL, you guys started the show that yes,
reports are that the Bengals have made significant progress on
contract extensions, which Mark Chase and Ti Higgins both deals
could be finalized in the coming days.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
NFL Network first with the story.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
Then Espion reported that the league expectation is that Jamar
Chase is going to get somewhere around forty point one
million to forty one million, topping Miles Garrett made him
the highest payton on a quarterback in the NFL BI.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
To you, we don't have any news on Aaron Rodgers
add on, except Diana Rossini saying that the Vikings are
still wondering what they should do. They've only had You've
only had and it's not even a month carry It's
more than that. You likely knew Sam Donald wasn't going
to be back. It was more of a question when
he was playing at that MVP level, But once they
(27:33):
got ousted from the wildcard round, they're sure didn't seem
to be a sentiment that he would return, considering how
he played in this final couple of games of the season.
But if you weren't sold on JJ McCarthy or you
weren't ready for him to be it, didn't think that
he was going to be healthy enough. Isn't this decision
more in the forefront of your mind than sitting right now?
And it's just it seems to be a mess when
(27:55):
it comes with Aaron Rodgers, because I'm not sure Vikings
fans even want Aaron Rodgers in Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Yeah, I mean, could be true. I don't know. I
do know that you're right though, they should have had
a contingency plan, and it seems like even during the
season they were already having a contingency plan, right. They
brought in Daniel Jones late late in the season, and
obviously I never thought he was the guy. But you're
bringing in these guys to see what they can do
and see if you can you know, Kevin O'Connell's great
(28:24):
at being a quarterback quote unquote. You guys can't see this.
I'm doing their quotes a quarterback whisperer, right, And so
if you get guys in that have had a little
success and you could actually bring them in close to
your facility, your program, see what they're about. Obviously, Daniel
Jones wasn't that guy, but they should have been thinking
about this, and especially with the strets that you know
Darnald had down, you know, closing out the season this year,
(28:47):
they should have had a plan in place. And Aaron
Rodgers right now, even if JJ McCarthy is going to
be the guy, you want him to have some type
of guy, a veteran guy in there who could potentially
be the guy that can play and if he needs
time even during the season, why not bringing Aaron Rodgers.
That doesn't really make any sense.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
I'll say I'll say this, I don't think you bring
in Aaron Rodgers for him to back up JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Oh no, no, not the backup. I'm saying, yeah, if
Jaj isn't ready yet, I mean he added, so a
catastophic injury goes so.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Then yeah, to that point, then what are you saying
about JJ McCarthy. Are you long playing this? Are you
already selling your stock on this? Because Aaron Rodgers is
coming off of that thirty eight one hundred yard season
that carry loves to talk about. It's correct and the
(29:38):
numbers are there. I thought he would retire. Sure doesn't
seem like he's going to. But you're also leaving the
Pittsburgh Steelers sitting there hanging because that's the decision. And
I get what you're saying about being that mentor to
JJ McCarthy, but doing so as the starter with McCarthy
the backup, you have the starting job in Pittsburgh if
you want it. Minnesota apparently won free agency, which I
(30:04):
don't know is they've give awards for that, But I've
been seeing a plus for Minnesota and all the signings
they've done and what they've done for their offensive line.
But a lot of times free agency doesn't win you
Super Bowls. And I'm just saying, is Minnesota in a
way felt. I don't want to say lightning in a
bottle because a lot of the pieces are there, but
Sam Darnold for those fifteen weeks was lightning in a bottle.
(30:27):
And I'm sure they're thinking, well, if we can get
that from a consistent quarterback that's not going to maybe
fold in Week eighteen or or be under pressure and
make the decisions he made in a wild card game,
then we should be fine. But almost like the Bengals, like,
you're not going to run it back exactly how it is.
They're fortunate that Brian Flores is back. You didn't get
an EDG coaching job, so he returns next season. So
(30:48):
I get while there's optimism there, Aaron Jones comes back,
you have top wide receivers, But man too, I just
Vikings fans don't want Aaron Rodgers. I would say, if
you had to ask them if they want him or not,
they would say no. And I think it's different from
(31:08):
when Brett Favr was there, because this was a team
that had just been searching and they would love to
stick it to the Green Bay Packers and Farv was
still playing at a high level at that point, and
then when he went to Minnesota almost takes them to
a super Bowl. But I don't know if I think,
if I'm a Vikings fan, i'd rather just see what
JJ McCarthy has at this point now. If it is
(31:30):
injury related, right, completely different story. But if it's injury related,
now I'm concerned that JJ McCarthy's just future as a whole.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Well, the crazy part about the Brett Favre element that
you threw in, because obviously this would be the same
route for Aaron Rodgers, right Green Bay Jets to Minnesota,
I'd hit back on you and say, as a teammate
of Brett Farv's, he played okay, he wasn't great, and
there were questions coming off that offseason. He injured his
elbow doing his shoulder or his elbow during that last
season with us, and I thought he was going to retire,
(32:01):
so similar to what you're saying. So I don't know
if Minnesota even thought that he was that good or not,
But I think it's more about sticking it to Green Bay.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
What you said on the ladder, sure that he teamed
up with Brad Childress and they did make a run
because they you know what I mean, NFC Championship game.
I just think it's a different sort of feel than
just the Vikings dynamic as a team. Back then, I
felt that it fit better than what Rogers is doing.
(32:32):
It almost feels like now the Vikings as Rogers awaits
for what they're doing, the Vikings are trying to decide
not whether Rogers can play, but whether they want to
enter into everything that comes with Aroon Rodgers. So you know,
to that point, and you're saying that for farv it
was more of a conversation, but it worked out for them.
I also feel that the Vikings at that point where
(32:54):
they were would have done anything, and I still think
that they feel that way because they haven't been back
to a Super Bowl. Still haven't obviously won a Super Bowl.
You know, the last Super Bowl they were in was,
you know, forty fifty years ago.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Who was the coach in Dan Minnesota. I can't remember
right now when they went to the Super bowls? No, No,
when Brett came Brad Childers. Okay, yes, I'm just trying
to correlate the head coaches too, because Kevin O'Donnell had
such a firm grip on that team as well. The
Aaron Rodgers part of it could be you know, an issue. Yeah, absolutely,
and I think that's the that's the drama with it.
Bo Benson, It's just mad that everybody is forcing him
(33:30):
to Minnesota to complete this era, to complete this Brett mirror.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Kurie and I have kind of talked about this before,
but it does feel like there's some wish casting going
on here too, where it's everybody wants to see Aaron
Rodgers complete the Brett fav career tour. So it's just like, well,
maybe if we like post enough about it, it'll come true.
But like, if the Vikings starting job was actually available,
Rogers would have signed there already.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
If it's down to Minnesota, New York or Pittsburgh and
you can start it all three, that's a no brainer
to me. That's the Vikings all day, every day. But
I think it says something that he's just sitting out
there waiting and the Vikings are not in any rush
to sign him. But yeah, all the time, people just
wish things to happen because they want more interesting things
to talk about it. I feel like.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
Here's the thing about this is where the JJ McCarthy
dynamic comes in, and again, if it is about his
health and where he is, then it's a bigger dilemma.
But I don't know why you would do this to
your young quarterback in his psyche to even be thinking
about Aaron Rodgers and playing this game. That's the portion
of it that I don't understand. I mean, the Colts
(34:35):
gave Anthony richards in two years of being as their
guy and it hasn't worked out, and now they're like,
all right, we're gonna bring in competition for you. Obviously,
when they drafted JJ McCarthy, they didn't expect him to
be injured when he got injured, but they had a
backup plan in case he wasn't ready as a rookie.
Now it's your number two and you're still wondering if
he's going to be your quarterback or if he's still
(34:56):
healthy enough. I don't think that's great for JJ McCarthy.
I don't think it's great for JJ McCarthy's future. That's
more of the domino that I just don't understand, because
it sure seems like a no brainer that once Sam
Darnold left, it's gonna be JJ McCarthy's job, and then
you would just find some veteran at some point to
be his backup. But apparently it's not as cut and
dry as that.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Yeah, Kevin O'Connell wants to win. I know him very well,
teammate of mine, competitive guy, super smart guy, and obviously
the season didn't end the way they wanted to last year,
so he wants to double down on that and win.
So I could see the inches in that.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
But you're right.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
I mean, fragility is a real thing when it comes
to anybody in this world. And so when you talk
about somebody that's considered one of the best in the
world at what they do in the NFL and a
young guy that hasn't had any real success, you're putting
them at risk for being for losing that confidence really quickly.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
He's Carrier Roads. I'm Dan Byer. The last time I
challenged carry on stats, I got schooled and he was right.
Brett far through twenty two interceptions in his lone season
with the Jets and you were there, So that was
enough for me to not challenge it. We are coming

with the story that former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Cup
has reached an agreement with your Seattle see right.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
It's revenge for Bobby Wagner going to the Rams for
that one year. Take that Rams. Cooper Cup comes back
to the Pacific Northwest. I was walking back in i
just saw his big grin on Dan's space. I'm like,
what's going on. No idea on if he's got anything
left in the tank, Absolutely, no idea. I just like
sticking it to the Rams a little bit. Yeah, Now
(37:38):
Sam Darnold has someone to throw.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
The ball to.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Great job job, hold on, hold on, hold on.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
All the reports coming in all across yes, NFL network
and everything. So there it is official, Cooper Cup signing
with the Seahawks. All right, Let's check in on other
things going on in the world of sports, like men's
college hoops. No surprise, but Cooper flag Dukestar has been
officially ruled out for today's ACC semi final game against
(38:07):
North Carolina. What's happened already at the Big Ten quarterfinals,
Number seven Michigan State and eighteen thranked Wisconsin both won
their matchups, so they're going to see each other in
the semi finals tomorrow. At the SEC quarterfinals, eighth ranked
Tennessee had an eighty three to seventy two win over Texas,
and third ranked Auburn defeated Ole Miss sixty two to
fifty seven. At the AAC quarter Finals, Number sixteen Memphis
(38:30):
survived eighty three to eighty against Wichita State. Iowa has
parted ways with coach Fran McCaffrey after fifteen seasons in
women's college hoops. I don't know if you guys heard this.
USC star Juji Watkins has signed an exclusive multi year
deal with Fanatics and Fanatics Collectibles, that's the company's trading
car division. She's the first female college athlete to sign
such a deal with Fanatics.
Speaker 5 (38:51):
You go girl.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
And in baseball, guys, hey, Clay Holmes is going to
be the Mets opening day starter in Houston, Carlos Rodin
will be the yank He's opening day start because I
don't have anybody else against Milwaukee, and Zach Eflin will
be the Orioles opening day starter in Toronto. Back to you, guys,
thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
Moncey, don't go anywhere because you and I are gonna
co host this duel ladies a gentleman. It's Caveno and
Rich live from the Tirek dot Com studios, and we
bring you initial Descent. Initial descent is the name of
the game. As Carrie Rhodes and Iowas Sam go ahead
to ahead in trying to decipher if the initials we
(39:29):
give you are actual conferences that hand out automatic bids
for the NCAA tournament. Moncey and I have a list
of some that are right and some that are wrong.
Carry and Iowa Sam have to decipher. We are going
to alternate. Carrie, you call it in the air, heads
or tails. Tails never fails, it's tails. You gotta chase.
(39:53):
Do you want to go first or second?
Speaker 5 (39:55):
In this?
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Let that punk go first.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Okay, Iowa Sam, I'm gonna give you. I'm gonna you
are gonna give you initials, mostly initials. And you have
to tell me if it's a real college basketball league
that gives an automatic berth or a fake one. Okay, Okay,
the ABC, the ABC, Is that a real conference that
(40:18):
gives out an automatic birth or did we just make
this up? That is ABC is made up? That is correct?
I went first then, because that was it's the home
to TGIF and a great nineteen eighties bands. That is true,
or the beginning of the alphabet, Iowa Sam, it's easy
(40:39):
as one, two, three, right, has got one point on
the board. All right, all right, Kerrie, all right? Is
this a real or fake league? E?
Speaker 4 (40:49):
S l.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
E s l Oh, My goodness, I'm gonna say that
is a fraudulent league?
Speaker 1 (40:59):
That is correct? Do you know what it stands for?
English speaking? Right? English is the second language. English is
the second language. That's what it is. I don't even
know what it is. I should have written it, wrote
it down. I didn't. It's one to one MANCI got
one for Sam, and I'll give one to carry. Yeah,
all right, Sam?
Speaker 2 (41:16):
Ready, I am oh VC.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
Oh v C at large birth or is it a
se yep? That's the Ohio Valley Conference. That is correct?
All right, Carrie to try to pull even what about
the swack oh? That's real, that's real, that's he is
(41:42):
wow right off the bat Southwestern Athletic Conference, or as
Iowa Sam called it this week, swakwah. Okay. Well, maybe
I don't want to. I don't want to, don't want
anything else to stick to it, all right, I'll throw
one to Sam. Carry all right, what about the I
(42:02):
r L. I am going to say that is made up,
and I'm I'm gonna say it's made up. It is
made up. Indie Racing League hacketts an abbreviation for Ireland,
but it is not a league. It's also an abbreviation
for Iowa River Landing, which is like an area where
(42:25):
they have all these businesses in Colville, Iowa.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
We know everything.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
That was just happenstance in real life is in.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
L.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Alright, you guys are good at this game. Yes you are,
all right, Carrie ready, s w V.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
That is a singing group. So I'm gonna say, no,
what did you what that was?
Speaker 4 (42:49):
You w V?
Speaker 1 (42:52):
You just wasted it on, Carrie.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
You may have gotten sound with that one, not Sam
got you. S w V, s w V, s w V.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
The singing group. Yeah, okay, what is it? What is it?
Speaker 5 (43:12):
S w V?
Speaker 1 (43:13):
That was?
Speaker 2 (43:13):
That was the group s w V.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
Yeah, but you didn't think it would be a conference.
I could think of some some like words that would
sound similar in s w Right, that's a that's a
tougher one. That's a tougher one. Man, you better thank MONSI.
She just gave you a free What does s WV
stand for in that singing?
Speaker 4 (43:30):
I get no specific instructions, and yeah I.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
Do it wrong.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
Okay, there we go.
Speaker 1 (43:37):
All right, very good, all right, you can throw one
over the sad can I.
Speaker 2 (43:41):
Okay, let's do this, okay, Sam, mule n e c
n e c uh.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
Yes, that is a real league. I believe that is
the Northeastern Conference. That is correct? Thank you? All right? Sam?
All right, person, all right, Harry, what about the MEAC
that is a real conference? Gosh, you know your college
is absolutely should athletic conference. Shouldn't you say m A
C to make a little harder? Yeah, I could when
(44:12):
you spell it, when you when you pronounce it like that,
and you're like, yeah, I think we've okay, yeah, okay,
all right, let's try it. Okay, what about you Iowa? Sam?
What about the h V A C. Wow, h v
A C that is more related to heating and cooling.
That is not a real league. That is correct? That
(44:34):
is correct?
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Good respond v.
Speaker 1 (44:41):
It is that's what we're going. Man. You guys are
really good on initial descent. They are all right, Mansa,
you got the next one for Carrie.
Speaker 4 (44:47):
All right, Carrie, what about the l d S.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
The l DS that is not a real conference. No,
that is I don't know what that is. Are you
l d S? There you go, old S.
Speaker 1 (45:07):
You can give one Iowa, believe it or not. B Y,
you never played in the ld S, so they never did.
Speaker 4 (45:13):
So, all right?
Speaker 1 (45:13):
What about Iowa Sam? What about l d R l
d R What would you even end the R with? No,
that's not real. That is correct. Gosh, I should have
written what l d R stood for because it was very,
very funny. Write it down. Yeah, gosh, darn it, this
(45:34):
is what happens. I have too many, too many things
in the oven, too many cooks in the kitchen. Look
it up. Yeah, we need like a tie breaker. I
feel like this is this is like, this is like
Iowa and Illinois yesterday reship. Yes, it was because Iowa
Sam was in one. That's why you think we're not sure.
We've never met her before. Her backyard. That's the only thing,
(45:56):
her backyard. That's the only thing we've seen. All right,
carried a whole even what about the Human League?
Speaker 2 (46:03):
The Human League? That is a band that Yeah, I'm
gonna say no, Yeah, yes.
Speaker 1 (46:08):
All right, your pull even Sam. What about the Summit League? Oh, absolutely,
very real, that is correct, six to five. You got
one for.
Speaker 6 (46:16):
Carrie, Yes, Carrie.
Speaker 1 (46:18):
What about the w A C.
Speaker 2 (46:21):
Yes, that's a real league, the wax that.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
Yeah, yeah, okay, it's it's tied up here, and in fact,
we only have we only have three left on it,
four I have four. We'll decide a winner, plus Carrie
decides a winner and the DeMarcus Lawrence Michael Parsons beef. Yes,
initial dissent is going to take a temporary timeouts before
(46:50):
we land here on Cavino and Rich He is carry Roads.
I'm Dan Byer in for the guys on this Friday,
coming up next. Yeah, we'll settle that dispute between Parsons
and law Lawrence and between Rhodes and Iowa. Sam. It's
all next year on Fox Sports Radio.
