If you find yourself thinking things like, “I just got lucky — they’re going to find out I don’t really know what I’m doing,” or “Any minute now, they’ll realise I’m a fraud.”

You are not alone.

Would you believe that Oliver Lavers - a $5M GCI agent, and the #1 International and NSW/ACT Salesperson at Ray White for two years in a row - struggled with impostor syndrome not that long ago?

Impostor syndrome isn’t always a weakness - it can actually be a hidden strength.

In fact, according to organizational psychologist Adam Grant, reveals that people who experience impostor thoughts tend to prepare more thoroughly, stay humble, and remain open to feedback - all of which can enhance performance.

Instead of letting self-doubt paralyse you, it can become fuel that keeps you striving for more.

The entire training is only in the Real Estate Gym

Tom Panos (00:00):
Ollie, it takes a lot of courage to say what you're
going to say, because impostersyndrome is something that we
all have.
We often think to ourselves iswhen is this going to luck run
out, like you know there?
But I think it's been so longnow that you realise you deserve
everything you've got.

(00:21):
I want to ask you if you wereto start from scratch so 14
years ago, that would have madeit 2011, correct?
Yep 2010, 2000.
If you were starting like nowand it wasn't 2010, 2011, right
you're starting now, what wouldyou do differently?

Oliver Lavers (00:44):
Well, first of all, I'd probably believe in
myself earlier.
Uh, step one, because, um, youknow, I'd be coming into these,
these situations, with morebelief.
And, uh, although it's workedfor me in one way, because I put
gavin on the pedestal andreally sort of rode off the back
of gavin and used his exposureas much as I possibly could for
myself um, secondly would be, uh, I'd probably try and I'm

(01:06):
always very hard on myselfinternally, so I'd probably
enjoy the journey a little bitmore than I have.
I guess I've been so focused onthe goal that I sort of
although I say I have enjoyed it, I've been very regimented
around my routine.
But I'd say, definitely have agoal of where you want to get to
Believe you're going to getthere, but you've got to have a
plan of where you want to get tobelieve you're going to get
there, but you've got to have aplan to get there.

(01:27):
And I would write a plan out,you know, I guess quite a strict
plan of what I need to do everyday, and then just believe if I
do the work, I'm going to getthere.
That's probably what I'll dodifferently, because if at the
moment it's, it's, uh, it, itfeels it feels not like I've
fluked it because I've done thework, but if I had the same
belief I do in myself now, itmay be more of an enjoyable

(01:50):
journey.
Do you wake up at 4.30?
Wake up at 4.30 every day andhave for the last, I guess, 15
years, go to the gym by 5, outof there by 6.30, in the office
at 8, leave the office at 7, andthat's when I go home.
But I'll always be on the phoneuntil I go to bed at, say, 9.30
.

Tom Panos (02:11):
You know your listing .
You know when you go to alisting presentation, right?
So what's your average price?

Oliver Lavers (02:16):
the average price At the moment, I'm sitting
between $8 million and $12million.

Tom Panos (02:21):
Okay, so let's assume you're going on a $10 million
property, right?
You know I've got this $10million appraisal at 2 o'clock.
Does it feel different?
I've got a $1.5 millionappraisal at 2 o'clock.
Is it like the stakes arehigher?
The owners are going to beharder?
I've got to be at my A game.

(02:43):
I've always been fascinatedbecause I never, when I was in
real estate, I just sold inMarrickville and Newtown, right?

Oliver Lavers (02:49):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the same right.

Tom Panos (02:51):
So I'm curious when you're doing, you know, the
expensive stuff, is it different?
Oh no, the video has just ended, but I've got good news for you
