Tom Panos (00:00):
I had an agent that used to work for me when I ran
my real estate company and Ididn't like what he used to do,
even though he said to me toshut up because he was getting
me business and that was he wasworking in a marketplace against
another female that had threekids.
And he would go to theappointments and he'd say listen
, if you go with her, I'mletting you know, don't expect

(00:22):
anything extra, she's anine-to-fiver.
No, don't expect anything extra, she's a nine-to-fiver.
And he'd actually go on and saylike you know, I see what my
wife does with two kids.
You know she's got three kidsand my wife is working, is at
home full-time.
I'm curious has that been usedagainst you before?

(00:44):
Kids in real estate?

Louise Pope (00:46):
Yeah, it absolutely was.
The first time I knew it was athing is when I lost out on a
listing and I'm always veryrespectful.
When I lose a listing, I'llcall the client and ask for
feedback about why.
But I always wish them the bestbecause I do want them to have
a successful sale.
But I said, out of curiosity, why did you choose the other
agent?
What was it that I didn't, youknow, do enough of?

(01:06):
Or or what did you feel?
And she said well, we reallylove you, we connected with you,
we trust you, we know you workhard.
But we just think, given whatother people have said, that
you're probably really busy atthe moment with your new baby.
And when I heard that I reallyhad to take some time, then I
was like, okay, I've got to hidethe kids, I've got to hide the
kids, I've got to pretend like Idon't have them.

(01:27):
But then I got to a stage andyou know that actually wasn't so
long ago where I thought tomyself do you know what I'm
confident with, who I am?
You know I can bring goodresults.
I, if a client engages me tosell their home, they are at the
top of my priority list, alongwith my family.
I'll do anything for them and Iknow that I'm good at what I do
, so I thought I'm going to flipthis on its head.

(01:49):
I can't hide anymore.
I took the pressure right offof myself.
I even went as far as doing abillboard recently that had me
in the middle sitting, composedwith my four crazy kids around
me and that said nurturing yourfamily's next move.
And from that billboard like itwas a pretty bold move for me
because I was exposing somethingthat I was kind of scared of

(02:10):
exposing and the feedback fromthat's been amazing.
I've had mums and families comeforward and yeah, it's been a
really, really beautifulfeedback from that.

Tom Panos (02:22):
Okay, that okay.
So what you're saying?
I actually think that when youportray an image on social media
of being bulletproof and arobot, you relate less to people
.
I think one of your advantages, louise, is when you're sitting

(02:47):
at a vendor's house, you knowwhat they're going through.

Louise Pope (02:52):
Absolutely.

Tom Panos (02:53):
So you can actually bring this into the conversation
and then people like dealingwith people that are like them,
right?
So I actually think by nothiding it but actually using it
as a competitive advantage, youcan actually devastate your
competitors, because people willfeel more relatable in a world

(03:18):
where people are time poor.
They're crazy rushing, droppingkids off to school.
When they see a real estateagent and they realise she's
just like us actually, it's justthat her job is in real estate
I think it can actually help you, not harm you, and you're
saying to me that is the case.

Louise Pope (03:39):
That's exactly the feedback I've been getting.

Tom Panos (03:41):
If there's one quality I've noticed of high
performing agents is they'recompetitive and they hate losing
.
Right and to the point.
I actually said it to an agentthis morning.
He goes.
Every time I look at mycompetitor on insta it gives me
the shits.
And I said well, if you want tohave the shits less, don't look

(04:05):
at your competitor on Instagram.
I've actually Sorry.

Louise Pope (04:12):
I've actually.
It sounds terrible and I don'twant to sound savage, but I've
actually blocked a lot of peoplein my competitors, I guess, and
also don't want people watchingwhat I'm doing because it's
distracting.
Yeah, I just want to focus.
I just do what I do and I do itas well as I can, and that's
all that matters.
You don't need to see whateveryone else is doing.
I find that derails me.
If I go down that avenue andSteph's always told me that just

(04:33):
stay in your own lane.

Tom Panos (04:35):
I'm the same in the training space.
I'm not an agent.
In the training space I hadsomeone that actually rang me up
and they said oh, hopefullynext year we'll get you to come
to our conference in New Zealand.
I know that you're nottravelling this is about three
years ago because you've beenunwell and you're not travelling
.
I said who told you that?
And they told me it was anothertrainer.

(04:58):
And I said are you serious?
I said that's not the case.
Anyway, cut a long story short.
I actually thought to myself.
The reality is, people can sayeverything they want to say.
But if you control your ownsocial media platforms, right.
If they're saying that you areback traveling, if they're
saying that you are in factworking at seven o'clock at

(05:18):
night, right.
People can say whatever theysay.
But I'm actually convinced now, louise, that whenever you say
something negative, the personthat's saying that negative
thing the person that they'resaying it about, right?
Or the person they're saying itto always thinks to themselves
why are you bagging that person?
Is it that you're threatened bythat person, right?

(05:40):
I think most human beingsunderstand that when you have a
go at someone, there's a reason.
You've got a reason, you've gota reason for it, and I've got
to tell you to any young guy outthere or girl, put loose fancy
free that's watching this liveor on replay.
Do not waste this goldenopportunity that you may have of
not Like.

(06:01):
I find it hard to believe, louise, that often the people
that have got the worst timemanagement are the people that
have got all the time in theworld right.
It's just that they just don'thave.
Oh no, the video has just ended, but I've got good news for you
.
