Nel 2017, in una villa di Bangkok, Alpha 02, un misterioso multimilionario, viene sorpreso da un incidente sospetto al suo cancello. Mentre si avvicina infuriato, un gruppo di agenti armati lo circonda: è una trappola dell’FBI e della DEA. Alpha 02 tenta di fuggire per spegnere il suo computer, ma viene catturato. Il suo vero nome è Alexandre Cazes, il creatore di AlphaBay, il più grande marketplace illegale del Dark Web.
L'indagine, iniziata nel 2014, parte da un banale errore: un vecchio indirizzo email lasciato visibile. L’FBI segue le tracce, scoprendo la sua identità e il suo stile di vita lussuoso. L’operazione Bayonet permette di catturarlo e chiudere AlphaBay. Una settimana dopo, Cazes si suicida in cella. Ma il Dark Web non si ferma: nel 2021, AlphaBay riappare sotto la guida di DeSnake, l’ex braccio destro di Cazes. La rete criminale continua a prosperare.
