Hello again, everybody. Thanksso much for tuning in to this
baseball classics diamond cast.
So glad you are here. It is mypleasure to be with you, and in
this episode, I'm going to betalking to you fantasy baseball
(00:45):
players and also to major leaguebaseball fans who have been
considering it but haven't takenthat leap yet. Did you know
there are millions playingfantasy baseball each and every
season. Now we know, of course, you know, most of us know sports
(01:06):
fans know fantasy football, ofcourse, gets the lion's share of
fantasy players, but fantasybaseball has them as well, not
as much as football, but still, millions of them, and the
numbers in fantasy sportsoverall are projected to go
absolutely even crazier over thecoming years. So if you've been
(01:27):
thinking about it, it's a goodtime to start getting into
fantasy baseball. And of course,if you're already there, well
this episode is for you as well.
So again, this is going to be afantasy baseball draft quiz, and
the way it's going to work is Ihave 10 questions for you. I'm
(01:49):
going to state each question, and there's four multiple choice
answers for each question, thenI'll give you the answer right
after that question. So you'llwant to have to wait to the end
of this episode to get all theanswers, I'd like to give it to
you when it's fresh in yourmind. All right, let's get
started with this fantasybaseball draft quiz. So question
(02:14):
number one, when drafting in thefirst round, what's the most
important factor to consideragain when drafting in the first
round. What's the most importantfactor to consider? Four
possibilities here, A,positional scarcity. B, Power
(02:38):
slash, speed combination. Cplayer consistency, or D
ceiling, for breakout potential.
Again, the question number onewhen drafting in the first
round, what's the most importantfactor to consider? Is it a
positional scarcity, B, Powerslash, speed, combination, C,
(02:58):
player consistency or C ceilingfor breakout potential. Let's
count it down. I'm gonna giveyou five seconds for each of
these questions to come up withyour answer. All right, so
54321,and of those choices, if you
(03:18):
said B, Power slash speedcombination, you got it right. A
balanced player who contributesacross multiple categories like
home runs and stolen bases iscrucial in fantasy baseball,
especially in the early rounds.
(03:39):
Okay, let's go to questionnumber two, you're picking at
the end of a snake draft in a 12team league. What's your best
strategy for your back to backpicks in that snake draft? All
right, so again, the questionnumber two, you're picking at
(03:59):
the end of a snake. Draft in a12 team league. What's your best
strategy for your back to backpicks? Is it? A, grab the best
available hitter and pitcher. B,focus on two elite hitters. C,
target players from a shallowposition. Or D, take two high
(04:23):
upside players. Let's go overthose answers again. Is it A,
grab the best available hitterand pitcher. B, focus on two
elite hitters. C, target playersfrom a shallow position. Or D,
take two high upside players.
All right, let's count it down,54321,
(04:49):
if you said C target playersfrom a shallow position, you got
it right in snake drafts, securing talent at a shallow
position.
Gives you an advantage as theother teams will struggle to
fill those gaps later. Allright, let's go to question
number three in the fantasybaseball draft quiz,
(05:14):
what's the ideal round to draftyour first starting pitcher in a
standard League? Again, thequestion number three, what's
the ideal round to draft yourfirst starting pitcher in a
standard League? Is it an A inrounds one to 2b, rounds three
to 5c, round six to eight, or Dafter round eight? So again, it
(05:41):
the ideal. What's the idealround to draft your first
starting pitcher in a standardLeague? A, rounds one to 2b,
rounds three to 5c, rounds sixto eight, or D after eight.
Let's count it down, 54321,if you said b rounds three to
five, congratulations. You gotit right. This range balances
(06:05):
getting a reliable ace withoutover committing to pitching
early. However, it can varydepending on the league, size
and format. Okay, let's get toquestion number four, which type
of player should you avoiddrafting early in the first five
(06:25):
rounds? Question number four, which type of player should you
avoid drafting early in thefirst five rounds? Is it a aging
veterans with injury concerns.
B, high upside rookies. C,relief pitchers or D, all of the
(06:52):
above. You know, I have all theabove answer into one of these.
So again, question four, whichtype of players should you avoid
drafting early in the first fiverounds. A, aging veterans with
injury concerns. B, high upsiderookies. C, relief pitchers. D,
all of the above. Let's count itdown, 54321,
(07:17):
if you answered D, all of theabove. Congratulations. That is
correct. Avoid risky playersearly. Prioritize consistency
and production over uncertaintyin the first five rounds. All
right, let's get to questionnumber five, when is it a good
(07:39):
idea to draft a closer? Questionnumber five, when is it a good
idea to draft a closer Is it A,early rounds to secure an elite
option? B, middle rounds forvalue picks, C, late rounds and
(08:00):
focus on saves from waivers orD, never prioritize closers. Oh,
okay. Question number five, whenis it a good idea to draft a
closer? A, early rounds tosecure an elite option? B,
middle rounds for value picks.
C, late rounds and focus onsaves from waivers or D, never
(08:22):
prioritize closers. All right, let's count it down. Question
number 554321,so when it's a good idea to
draft a closer, if you said B,middle rounds for value picks,
congratulations. The middle tierclosers often provide excellent
value without sacrificing earlypicks for position players or
(08:47):
starting pitchers. All right, how you doing? We're halfway
through. Let's get on toquestion number six. Give you a
chance to kind of catch yourbreath. Here we go. What's the
best strategy for filling yourutility position? Question six,
what's the best strategy forfilling your utility position?
(09:10):
Is it a draft a player with highpower upside, B, focus on a
hitter who provides balancedstats. C, choose a speed
specialist to boost stolen basesor D, use it to stash your
breakout pick. Question numbersix again, what is the best
(09:33):
strategy for filling yourutility position? A draft a
player with high power upside.
B, focus on a hitter whoprovides balance stats. C,
choose a speed specialist toboost stolen bases or D, use it
(09:54):
to stash your breakout pick. Allright, let's count it down five.
4321, in question, six, the beststrategy for filling your
utility position. If youanswered B, congratulations, you
got it right. Focus on a hitterwho provides balance stats.
(10:14):
Utility spots are best filledwith consistent, well rounded
players to ensure contributionsacross categories. Look at this
within fantasy baseball, thesestrategies that are thought out
and used, and this will give youthe edge as you get into your
next fantasy baseball draft. Sowith that, let's get to question
(10:36):
number seven, what's the bestway to handle positional
scarcity during your draft.
Question seven, what's the bestway to handle positional
scarcity during your draft? Isit a target shallow positions
early, even if it's a slightreach? B, ignore positional
scarcity and draft the bestavailable player, C, mix shallow
(11:00):
and deep positions throughoutthe draft, or D, focus only on
positions with strong offensiveproduction. Let's go through
that again for Question seven.
What's the best way to handlepositional scarcity during your
(11:20):
draft. A, target shallowpositions early, even if it's a
slight reach. B, ignorepositional scarcity and draft
the best available player. C,mix shallow and deep positions
throughout the draft. Or D,focus only on positions with
strong offensive production.
Again. Question seven, what didyou say? All right, if you said,
(11:45):
oh, let's count it down. Let'scount it down first, so, 54321,
again for the question of what'sthe best way to handle
positional scarcity in yourdraft. If you answered a target
shallow positions early, even ifit's a slight reach, you got it
(12:09):
right. Drafting shallowpositions like catcher or second
base early, can give you thecompetitive edge. This goes back
to question number two, so youare getting that now between
question two and question seven.
All right, let's move on toquestion number eight. We have
three questions left. Whatshould you do if the top tier
players at your draft positionare gone? So what should you do
(12:33):
if you the top two players atyour draft position are gone. Uh
oh. What should you do? So is ita draft the next highest ranked
player, regardless of positionB, reach for a player in a
position of need, but considervalue C, trade down or swap
(12:54):
picks if your league allows orD, take the best available
player who fits your team'sneeds. So again, question number
eight, what should you do if thetop tier players at your draft
position are gone, a draft thenext highest ranked player,
(13:15):
regardless of position B, reachfor a player in a position of
need, but consider value C,trade down or swap picks if your
league allows or D, take thebest available player who fits
your team's needs. All right, let's count it down, 54321,
(13:37):
and for Question Eight, whatshould you do if the top tier
players at your draft positionare gone if you answered. D,
congratulations. You got itright. Take the best available
player who fits your team'sneeds. This option balances
maintaining value whileaddressing positional or
categorical gaps, a criticalskill for successful drafting
(14:03):
Okay. Question number nine, howshould you approach drafting
rookies? Question Nine, howshould you approach drafting
rookies? A, avoid draftingrookies entirely. B, take one as
a high upside bench. Option C,draft them early to get a
(14:28):
breakout star. Or D, wait untilmid season and pick them up on
waivers. So again, QuestionNine, how should you approach
drafting rookies? A, avoiddrafting rookies entirely. B,
take one as a high upside benchoption. C, draft them early to
(14:49):
get a breakout star. Or D, waituntil the mid season and pick
them up on waivers. All right, let's count it down. Five, four.
4321,and again. Question Nine, how
should you draft? How should youapproach drafting rookies in
fantasy baseball? If youanswered B, take one as a high
(15:12):
upside bench option.
Congratulations. You got itright. Rookies carry risk, so
using them as bench playersminimizes downside while keeping
upside potential makes goodsense. All right, the final
question in the fantasy baseballquiz, here we go. Question 10.
(15:37):
When should you startconsidering multi position
players in your draft. Again.
Question 10, when should youconsider start considering
rather multi position players inyour draft? When should you
start considering multi positionplayers in your draft? A, early
if they provide elite stats. B,mid draft for flexibility, C,
(16:00):
only as late round depth picksor D, ignore multi position
players entirely. Okay. Again, when should you start
considering multi playerpositions? Multi position
players in your draft? A, earlyif they provide elite stats. B,
mid draft for flexibility, Conly as late round depth picks
(16:26):
or D, ignore multi player ormulti position players entirely.
I'm going to go through thoseanswers one more time. A, early
if they provide elite stats. B,mid draft for flexibility, C C,
only is late round draft picks.
D, ignore multi position playersentirely. All right. Countdown,
(16:48):
5432,what if you said B, mid draft
for flexibility. You got itright. Congratulations. Multi
position players add valuablelineup flexibility, but it's
rarely worth over paying forthem early. So if you were
keeping track of your answersand you got nine to 10 correct,
(17:10):
you are a draft wizard. If yougot seven to eight right, you're
a strategic contender when itcomes to fantasy baseball
drafts, if you have five to sixcorrect answers, you're a
