Steven en Maarten kruipen weer achter de microfoons want de Ronde van Colombia staat voor de deur. Een land dat Maarten niet onbekend is. Op uitnodiging van een engelse TV collega, Matt Rendell, heeft hij in december deelgenomen aan de Grand Fondo Nairo Quintana Tourtocht. Een reis die leidde tot dat hij deze Crotcast wel moest maken.
Colombia is een land dat jarenlang geleden heeft onder onrust en geweld. Guerillos en capos (drugsbarons) maakten de dienst uit. In het land is het fragiele vredesproces pas net op gang. Een van de gezichten van dit proces is niemand minder dan wielrenner Nairo Quintana. Want in Colombia gaat wielrennen over veel meer dan heel hard fietsen. De fiets is een middel tot communicatie en verzoening. En Quintana staat aan het stuur. Waar wij hem hier nou niet bepaald kennen als uitgesproken persoon, is hij in zijn thuisland een inspirerende leider. Hij predikt over liefde, spiritualiteit en het omarmen van zijn inheemse identiteit. "Wij zijn de nieuwe capos!", roept hij. En heel Colombia hangt aan zijn lippen.
