De desastreuze effecten van het Corona virus treffen iedereen. Zo ook natuurlijk de wielersport. Het komende seizoen staat op zijn zachtst gezegd op losse schroeven. Een worst-case scenario dat we ons tot voor kort niet eens konden voorstellen.
Zelfs Iwan Spekenbrink niet. En hij is de man van de scenario's. Nauwkeurig bereidt deze ploegleider zijn team, Sunweb, voor op welke gebeurtenis zich ook maar kan ontvouwen in een koers. Maar worden deze scenario's patronen waarin renners makkelijk vast kunnen roesten? Of durft hij te doen wat hij van zijn renners vraagt: loslaten.
We spreken hem over zijn baanbrekende teamspirit die de bakermat vormt van zijn visie. Over het vertrek van renners als Dumoulin en Kittel. En nemen poolshoogte bij een van zijn Sunweb renners: Cees Bol. Hoe gaan hij en zijn ploeg om met de onzekere situatie waarin ze nu verkeren?
