Iedereen kent wel iemand met long covid. Honderdduizenden Nederlanders kampen ermee. Hoewel sommige patiënten ernstige, chronische klachten ervaren, wordt long covid door deskundigen én ondeskundigen vaak nog weggezet als een psychische aandoening. De eerste klinieken hebben inmiddels hun deuren geopend, maar maatschappelijke aandacht en erkenning komen maar moeizaam van de grond. Hoe kan dat?
Journalisten Linda Samplonius en Jop de Vrieze deden een tweeledig onderzoek naar long covid en andere onbegrepen chronische ziekten. Deze week verschijnt hun tweede artikel in De Groene Amsterdammer. Daarin laten ze zien hoe de strijd voor erkenning langzaam vruchten begint af te werpen, ondanks aanhoudende onenigheid binnen de medische wereld.
In deze aflevering spreekt Kees van den Bosch met Linda en Jop over hun bevindingen. Ze bespreken de klachten en frustraties van patiënten, de verschillende visies binnen de wetenschap en de voorzichtige opmars van algemene acceptatie van post-infectieuze aandoeningen.
