Tell us a little bit aboutyourself.
Well, I am a yoga teacher.
I am a soon-to-be yogatherapist.
I am a busy mom of three and I,yeah, I'm just an average woman

living out her dreams andtrying to become an entrepreneur
and run a business and be inschool and be a mom, all at the
same time.
So, yeah, that's a little bitabout me.
Awesome, you said you calledyourself a yoga therapist.
Tell me what that means.
Well, yoga therapy is a furthertraining after becoming a yoga

teacher.
It's something that you cantake and what it is is using the
best parts of yoga, is usingthe best parts of yoga and
trying to some of the best partsof physiotherapy, almost, and
putting them together and usingbreath and stillness and
(02:17):
meditation and movement to helppeople heal either from pain or
discomfort or to help peoplefind a greater range of motion
in their movement.
Yoga therapy is really like abeautiful private yoga session
(02:43):
where we explore you as anindividual, right.
So that's a little bit aboutyoga therapy.
And so it's not therapynecessarily for, you know, like
a broken bone.
You know, as you compared it tophysiotherapy, you could use it
just for personal growth aswell.
(03:05):
Absolutely 100%.
Yeah, I have, you know, someclients who come to me with
physical pain and some clientswho come to me who are just
needing more silence orstillness or breath in their
life.
That's awesome, that's reallycool.
(03:28):
Let's talk about confidence.
How do you defineself-confidence and why do you
think it's important?
Well, self-confidence to me isall about being authentically
myself.
I kind of view self-confidencea little bit differently than
(03:48):
some people, because I'm notalways confident.
I you know, if I'm learning anew skill or doing something a
little bit daring, I'm notalways confident in myself.
So that's kind of the way Ithink about self-confidence,
(04:09):
whereas authenticity I thinkabout even in those moments
where I'm not feeling as sure ofmyself.
I'm always 100% authentic.
Here we go, anyway, I'm always100% authentically me.
(04:35):
And so, yeah, self-confidenceis important.
You want to believe that whatyou're doing, that you're
capable of what you're doing.
But sometimes, you know,sometimes you're a little bit
unsure, and that's okay.
But even in those moments, I'malways 100% myself yeah, that's
perfect.
That's how we should all be, Isee, I think.

Anyway, what are some tips youcould give to some of our
listeners about being moreconfident?
I think grace is a big thing,you know.
Giving yourself some grace toknow that you're not always
(05:16):
going to be perfect in themoment that you want to be.
Know that if you're doingsomething for the first time and
it doesn't work out the way youthought it would, that it's not
about becoming a master atsomething the first time.
(05:37):
It's about learning, you know,and giving yourself a little bit
of grace.
In that you might make mistakes, and that's okay.
But if you can remain true towho you are in yourself while
you're trying to do these things, you should be okay.
You shouldn't blow past yourvalues, you shouldn't blow past
(06:01):
your boundaries.
If you're remaining authenticto yourself.
Yeah, I love that and I'mlearning that if you write down
your core beliefs and youcompare the way you live your
life to your core beliefs, thenyou know you're living in your
(06:23):
authentic beliefs, like yourauthenticity.

Yeah, that's
beautiful, the way you put that.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
In your opinion, what
is the difference between
self-esteem and self-confidence?
Well, I see self-confidencemore as a situational thing and
self-esteem more as an internalthing, for me personally, anyway
.
So my self-esteem is how I feelabout myself, how I love myself
(06:55):
, how I dislike myself, theinternal dialogue, whereas
self-confidence is, you know, tome more situational.
Am I feeling confident in this?
Speaker 1 (07:06):
moment.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
So that's a little
bit how I see it, and I'm not
always great at either.
Truthfully, you know, myself-esteem is not always
perfect and my self-confidenceis not always perfect, but I try
to going back to beingauthentic.
I try to be authentic in who Iam and that helps.
That helps.
It helps me feel a little bitbetter about the situation.
(07:29):
Right, I get that 100%.
But at the same time, I feellike we shouldn't be judging
ourselves, you know, like goodor bad, right?
I mean, self-esteem is like yousaid, it's how you view
yourself.
And if you have a lowself-esteem, that's not
necessarily a bad thing, becauseif you know it, you know you
(07:52):
have to work on it.
Right, it's not necessarily badright, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Yeah, 100%, yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I love how you put
that yeah, how do you think you
could be more self-confident?
Can you give us like two orthree you know little tips on
how?
Like I mean, obviously everysituation is different.
Yeah, yeah, for me, how I growmy self-confidence is by, you
(08:20):
know, try, try, try again.
That's how I grow myself-confidence, you know, not
giving up on myself, reallygiving myself time to look at
myself, at the world or thesituation or whatever it is,
through child's eyes.
Know that there's, there's somegrowth that needs to happen
(08:44):
there, that I'm not going to beperfect at something the first
time I do it.
You know, when I first startedteaching yoga, I I was so scared
, oh, I was so scared, and allit I mean not all it took.
It was a lot of hard work, butwhat it took was for me to just
continuously show up for myselfand show up for my students and
(09:08):
just fumble my way through andeventually I became what I
believe is a very good yogateacher.
It just took me time.
It took me practice anddedication and again, it took me
(09:28):
some having grief with myselfto realize that I am going to
make mistakes and that that isperfectly okay.
Yeah, totally, I think you'rean awesome yoga teacher.
I think I've taken two or threeof your classes and I just love
how you're always so calm andlike forgiving, knowing that we
are not perfect right.
It's like we feel moreconfident by your instruction,
(09:49):
because you make it very clearour bodies are not made to do
everything at every given momentExactly.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
And having confidence
in knowing that that's okay and
that if you keep trying you canfigure it out.
Like I quite often in my yogaclasses will say like how do you
know that you can do a pose ifyou never try it?
And you may try and you mayfeel like you failed, but, quite
(10:27):
frankly, one day, if you keeptrying, the next thing you know
you're going to be able to do it.
So you know, just keep tryingfor that self-confidence,
exactly, and one thing I'velearned is you can't really do a
yoga pose wrong.
It might not look like the ladybeside you, but you're still
doing it right.
No, exactly, Exactly.
(10:56):
That's the beautiful thing aboutyoga is it teaches us more
about ourselves than almost anyother activity, because you're
so in tune to your own body.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it took me afew years to figure that part
out.
You know, I thought yoga wasjust about stretching, you know,
and moving in a different way,and I realized, you know,
probably after three years,there's more to it than just
(11:17):
stretching.
Yes, yeah, that's just the tipof the iceberg.
Yeah, oh, yeah, for sure, forsure.
Why do you thinkself-confidence is important in
our everyday life?
Because if you don't believe inyourself, you know who's going
to believe in you.
I mean, I would love to saythat everybody has somebody that
believes in them, but maybethat's not true.
You have to show up foryourselves.
(11:39):
You know, have your own back,be your own cheerleader.
Self-confidence is so importantfor peace of mind.
You know to know that.
Like yes, if you don't get itthe first time, that's okay that
(12:03):
you have the confidence to keeptrying.
Yeah, self-confidence is reallyimportant.
Yeah, I love that.
And where do you think ourself-confidence comes from?
Our self-confidence comes fromFrom being authentic in who you
are, for sure.
Well, for me anyway I can't sayfor everybody, but for me
(12:25):
personally being authentic inwho I am, how I present myself
to the world.
You know how I act withintegrity.
That's where my confidencecomes from.
(12:45):
When I waver in my integrity,then I don't feel as confident.
Yeah, because you'requestioning every move you're
making.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
I love that Exactly.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Yeah, exactly, do you
think you could fake
self-confidence Me personally?
No, you could fakeself-confidence um me personally
?
No, I can try, I suppose, but Ifeel like people can see
through it.
Quite frankly.
Yeah, I feel like, um, yeah, Idon't feel like I can fake
self-confidence, but there'salso something to be said about
(13:13):
that.
Fake it till you make it, whichI believe some people, it's
true and in some ways.
I guess I did do that when Iwas learning to teach yoga is.
I just faked being confidentuntil I actually was.
So can you?
Yes, is it easy?
Not necessarily.
Would I prefer to show upauthentically and say I'm not
(13:35):
confident, that I'm going tokeep trying.
That's how I would prefer toshow up, yeah.
I agree, I'm exactly the sameand, like you said earlier, I
might be confident in thismoment or in this situation, but
my overall self-confidencemight be low.
(13:56):
Right, I know myself I can puton the right outfit, walk into a
room and I can rock it right.
But then there's some dayswhere I'm like I'm not feeling
it, you know the outfit isn'tdoing it for me.
So yeah, I get what you'resaying 100% yeah.
Do you think self-confidence canlead to success?
Oh, absolutely, yeah, I dobelieve that.
(14:22):
You know, when you'reself-confident, when you are
authentic in who you are, youattract people who appreciate
that, who enjoy that, who want apiece of that, who want to
surround themselves with that,and doing that will bring, or
(14:45):
will bring, success.
You know, in my line of work,if I am self-confident, people
will have trust in me to be ableto help them in yoga and yoga
therapy, and that would bring mesuccess for sure.
Yeah.

Yeah, I agree.

I agree 100% there.
Why do you think some womenhave a low self-confidence?
Oh, that's a big question.
I think partly not knowing whothey are.
You know, I can just speak fromexperience.
When I did not know who I was,when I wasn't living
(15:29):
authentically, um, I had, I hadvery little self-confidence
because I wasn't sure about whatthe world was calling me to do,
who I was, how I was beingcalled to show up, and so things
that I tried didn't necessarilyfeel like they fit for me, you
(15:50):
know.
So it just took a long time oftrying and finding something
that finally worked for me, thatfelt like coming home.
Yeah, that sounds so beautifulIn your line of work.
So you're a yoga instructor, ayoga therapist, a Reiki
(16:12):
practitioner, meditationinstructor and guide.
What do you do to serve others,to bring them to the next level
?
Well, I, there's a lot ofthings that I believe in.
One of them is that yoga andholistic wellness should be
(16:36):
something that is accessible toeverybody.
So I make sure that my classesare accessible and that I offer
a wide range of classes.
I also make sure that mypricing is affordable and I
(16:56):
really listen to what peoplehave to say.
I maybe ask more questions thanthe average yoga therapist does,
but it's just so important forme to know how you're feeling,
to really show up and listen andto be there for you so that you
can feel seen and you can feelheard.
(17:16):
It's so important.
It's so important.
You know.
Physio hasn't worked.
Chiro hasn't worked.
They're doctors.
They don't feel like peoplelisten to them.
I want them to feel exactly theopposite in yoga therapy.
I want them to know that I amlistening and that I am hearing
(17:39):
them and I am here to help themimprove whatever it is they're
coming for, even if that's justrest.
Oh, I love that.
I feel like I don't know.
I feel like yoga is like.
It relaxes me.
You know, it makes me forgeteverything.
(18:02):
You know, even though, sometimeswhen I'm in like the Shavasana
pose, my brain is like startingto go right.
It's like okay, so when this isdone, you need to do this, you
need to do that.
And then I'm like wait justbring it back and, when you know
, the bowl starts to ring orwhatever.
(18:23):
Each instructor does somethingdifferent at the end.
I'm like you've got this time,enjoy it.
Just do nothing, think nothing,right.
Is that what we're supposed tobe doing?
Speaker 1 (18:37):
I don't think there
is a right way or a wrong way?
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Okay that was the
answer I was looking for.
I think that there are days forus that it's easier to be a
little bit more quiet in ourhead and days where it's not,
and that's just the nature ofour brains, right?
I have a dear friend that callsit monkey mind.
(19:01):
Some days the monkey is asleepand some days the monkey is
fully playing, and it just kindof depends on the day.
The trick is to not beatyourself up on the days the
monkey is loud and playing.
And you know, don't beatyourself up.
For those days those are okay,and when you're in that moment,
that's exactly where you'resupposed to be and that's okay.
(19:24):
Yeah, yeah, I guess it's allabout forgiveness, right, and
grace.
Uh-huh, yeah, 100%.
It goes back to giving yourselfin grace, accepting yourself as
you are in the moment.
That's so awesome.
I just love that.
Okay, so when you're notteaching yoga or you know doing
(19:49):
yoga therapy, you know doingyour profession what do you do
for fun?
Oh, I love hiking and canoeing.
We try to get out to themountains as much as we can, try
to get out to the nationalparks as much as we can.
I love to garden, for sure, andI love to read.
(20:12):
If it's cold, you can find mereading Beside the Fire and if
it's warm, you can findme reading on my porch swing.
So, yeah, I love to read.
That's great.
Do you read like all kinds ofbooks or do you have like a
favorite?
I used to be a well-roundedreader.
(20:32):
Right now, because of school,I'm reading mostly um books
related to yoga in some way,whether it's anatomy or it's um
biomechanics or yoga philosophy.
Right now that's what I'mreading, but I sure do love a
good fiction book.
I love self-help books.
(20:55):
I love young readers, like theyoung adult books.
They're always so enjoyable.
So I love poetry, so I do readeverything.
But right now it seems to be alittle bit hijacked with
learning, higher learning, Iguess.
Right, because you don't havetoo much time with three kids at
(21:16):
home.
No, no, and yoga is like abeautiful like, almost like an
onion.
There's just layers and layersand layers and you can just keep
going down, and every time Ifind something interesting then
it brings up something else thatinterests me, and then it makes
me want to read something aboutthat and it's a bit of a rabbit
(21:39):
hole.

Wow, that's awesome,
that is so neat.

Think it's like I
said.
I went into yoga thinking itwas simple, right, but as the
years go on, I'm finding it moreand more.
That's like you said there'salways something more to learn
about it.
