Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kevin Coach told us that he was appreciating his time
with you through this draft process, knowing that it was
your last one in the official capacity is GM. Did
you take any of those moments or maybe catch coach Tomlin,
you know, thinking maybe a little bit more about what
you guys do during this time of year. Not really,
I mean we really didn't talk too much about it.
A lot of that is just natural interaction between coach
(00:22):
and myself, and you know, you don't really focus on
it because you don't have time because you're usually moving
from one area to another. I think a lot of
that stuff will come to mind when this draft process
is over. But uh, not to say we take for
granted everything that we do in a given setting throughout
this process, but a lot of it we do take
(00:44):
for granted because we know we have to do this
to get ready for that. By the way, this is
coming down the road, So it's a timely flow type
thing that I think we'll appreciate more once it's over.
Do you think even maybe Thursday morning you'll maybe think
about it. I don't think so, only because again, you're
you're so geared up and thinking about what you have
(01:05):
to do. Thursday evening moving into Friday Saturday. Maybe when
we put in that final pick on Saturday night it
might hit you, but in the interim we're just focused
on trying to make sure we do it right. Well,
speaking of the draft, you guys did a lot during
free agency, but no draft capital was given up. I
know you and Coach talked about that a lot at
(01:26):
the end of March with the owners meetings. Is that
because that's kind of how you guys like to do
business that has been the tradition, or does it have
to do also just with the talent that's in this
draft class or can it be both? I think it
is both. I mean, that's the way this franchise was
was built and that's the way it operates pre UM,
pre Colbert and Tomlin, and it'll be that way post
(01:48):
Coburn and Tomlin as long as the Rooney's wanted done
that way. And we believe in that direction UM getting
young talent, developing at young talent, and hopefully winning Super
Bowls with that young healent as it matures. So and
you do always couple that with the draft class. And
we have an idea when free agency starts, what the
(02:08):
draft class will be like, we don't have the finalization
because we don't have physicals, we don't have pro days,
so on and so forth, so we're guessing along the way.
And again, everything we did in free agency, none of
it will preclude going into this draft. Uh just said
earlier that we we have twenty two starting capable players
(02:29):
in place. It doesn't mean we're good enough at any
one position, but we have players that have started at
the NFL level for each position. So we'll just see
what we can add to it. Rrell Edmonds was the
most recent on Monday, You guys brought him back for
a one year deal. Why was it important to bring
him back to somebody who has played with Minca, comfortable
in the system, and also you know somebody who's been
(02:52):
very reliable, as coach always points out, oh the above.
I mean, Terrell has has never been unavailable except for
the end of the One Sea and when they needed
a shoulder surgery. And he's he's performed well. And you know,
when we go into free agency, we always we encourage
the guys, look, go see what's out there for you,
because you'll feel better about coming back to us. And
(03:14):
we stay in touch with them, They stay in touch
with us. They understand that we have to do our
homework on possible replacements, and sometimes when it all comes
together at the end, it says, this is the best
spot for me and it's the best fit for us,
and I think we mutually agreed that it was. Um
It's a great option to play next to a great
player like Manka, but it's good for Manka too to
(03:36):
have that that person, that player that he's comfortable with
Um back. So again we can move forward with maybe
adding people from the outside, but knowing that we have
stability and given spots. So does Terrell coming back change
anything in terms of the draft and maybe depth at
that position. Not really. Again, we're comfortable with the group
(03:59):
and anything we add to it's gonna add great competition
at any given position, and it's nice to have that
going into a draft and not be specifically locked into
having to take a spot or take a player for
a spot. Right now, in terms of the first round,
you've drafted every position except for offensive tackle, or you're
gonna fill out your Bengo card this year and go
(04:21):
offensive tackle in the first round. You just gave me
a PC information. I never I never knew quite honestly, Uh,
I never realized that we had drafted one player in
every position. So, UM, could that happen? Of course? Uh,
But again does it have to happen? Absolutely not. There's
great players. We talked about the tackle depth UM in
(04:44):
previous and you know UM sessions and we're we're still
confidence a deep group. We also understand those guys get
taken high for a good reason. It's a very valuable commodity.
But there is depth and there's players who can help
us at every level. Is there any update on stephant
it and just maybe if in one he will be
able to make a decision so that you guys know
(05:05):
moving forward. No, there's nothing to update. Again, we were
encouraged by our last session with Stefan and we'll continue
to monitor that and see where he is UM as
we move out to the field. Since you didn't know
that you haven't taken an offensive tackle in the first round,
I I know you don't care about stats. Super Bowls
(05:26):
are clearly important, but you know, outside of stats, and
maybe from a personal level, is there anything that you
are most proud of of your time here with the Steelers?
I think the only thing I would reflect on is
you know, we have as many Super Bowls as any
other franchise in the National Football League, and having been
(05:46):
part of, you know, adding to that room. Um, that's
that's satisfying to a certain extent. Um, you certainly would
have liked to add more than but um, for the
most part, there is some satisfaction of knowing that our
group has added to that room, and I think moving forward,
don't continue to add to it. All right, thanks, all right,
(06:08):
