Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome in everybody to Fantasy Bros. MLB. It's time to
look ahead at the waiver wire. It's me Joey b
Jopi's appear with me, of course, is the Welsh, and
we're gonna take a look some hitters and some pitchers
that could make an impact for you as we are
looking towards the dog days of summer ahead of us already.
It's amazing. The baseball season just goes on and on
and on, and at some point we'll run out of fab.

(00:27):
But we haven't yet, Welsh, we have not run out
of fab yet. Let's start with one of two catchers
we're gonna talk about now. This first catcher just got
called up to the big leagues on the weekend. He's
still just about thirty percent rostered on CBS, even less
than some of the other spots. It's Kyle Teal, which
is kind of crazy to me that he got called
up on a Friday and still on Monday he was

(00:48):
I think thirty three percent rostered and hasn't moved up
too much. Teal is an on base machine Welsh. It's
got some power. He can also play first base DH
and he's gonna play every day for the White Tux, who,
by the way, are starting to play a little better
just recently, especially offensively. So I kind of look at
Teal as an interesting long term investment for the rest
of the season because of his skill set and because

(01:09):
of the fact if you're hurting a catcher, this is
a guy that can give you every day at bats,
which is really hard to find nowadays. The other guy
is contrarists who could really does that for you in
the big leagues nowadays. So to me, Teal is a
guy that I'm really targeting.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
I think the only place I'm not like looking at
Teal is in like ten team leagues. Other than that,
or unless it's a ten team too catcher league, anything
else to catcher deeper leagues, I do think you need
to kind of pay attention to him. They brought him
up to keep him here the rest of the year,
Caro and him can continue to survive. Teal is going
to keep moving around between D eight's catcher and what
we really hope is he will start playing some first base.

(01:44):
And like you said, I mean, he's a contact machine,
makes a ton of contact.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
The simple size is.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Really too small right now to read into anything. I mean,
it's like tenant bats as we're looking at.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
This hard hit numbers are really good.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
He's not striking out a bunch, that's great. He's getting
the ball in the air boom. He's just not barreling
like that. But he just makes a decent amount of contact.
I think he's gonna be a doubles guy. I think
he legitimately has the potential to be a top fifteen catcher. Now, Like,
here's an interesting thing I'll throw out to you. Ben
Rice just opened up qualifications. I think getting his fifth

(02:16):
game at catcher, so CBS, he is now eligible as
a catcher. So that's one of those things that kind
of like pushes the field down just a tiny bit.
But once Steel gets first base eligibility, I think he
hovers around that fifteen ish area starting catcher. But because
he has the potential to play every single day, it's
why you might even want to hold a little bit longer.
Higher batting average, pretty good counting stats, probably hit in

(02:39):
the middle of the order. Yeah, I think outside of
like ten team leagues, you should be probably be looking
to pick him up.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
With Stanton coming back soon too, he's in his double
A rehab right now. It'll be interesting to see who
gets squeezed. Is a grisham is at Rice, Like, who's
gonna lose him at bats on those gags. Somebody's gonna
lose somewhere. Another catcher, Alejandro Kirk, who has actually been
on a tear over the last ten games, slashing four
to seventy five, eleven seven to twenty five. He's got
eight run scored and twelve ribbies over that span. Just

(03:04):
an incredible run for Kirk. Oh, look, he's in for
a high batting average, and batting average is a tough
thing to find nowadays in fantasy. So again it's circumstantial.
As Welsh was saying, if you're a deeper league, Kirk
is a guy to pick up there, and you know,
fifteen team, single catcher league, but you know, a two
catcher league, he's already rostered. We know that. However, you know,
just looking at his roster percentage right now, he's still

(03:24):
available in sixty percent of leagues right now. So if
you have injuries or just somebody who's not getting the
job done, Kirk could also be a short term fix.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Yeah, and I think if you're in the run of
the reasons why Teal isn't like even higher is because
a guy like Kirk is still sitting out there. I
love the idea of picking him up right now. It's
high batting everage. That's kind of the thing that you
would want with a guy like Teal. The homers they're
not you know, through the roof or anything like that.
But there's a really good team context for Kirk. There's
potential runs. He's hitting both righties and lefties. He's destroying

(03:53):
He's sitting over three twenty against both righties and lefties,
so there's not any big.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Crazy split issues.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
April, May and June, his batting averages continue to rise.
He's a great points league player. He's striking out less
than ten percent of the time. He's barreling the ball,
the second most he's ever done in his career. So
you know the Interestingly enough, like there's like some high
end catchers, but none of them really solidified themselves.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Outside of cal Raley.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
It's Kyle Rally, and then there's just this huge clump
of guys and in that like ten to eighteen range
somewhere in between there there can be the Drake Baldwins,
there can be the Kirks and there can be the teals.
I think I would side on Kirk right now because
of the really lead elite average, good like back to
ball skills, and you know the offense around him is

(04:36):
going to put him in some decent opportunities and I'll
take that batting average at the catching spot, all right.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
The next guy we're going to talk about, it's gonna
be controversial because I think we're gonna be on other
ends of this. Usually I'm the positive guy. This time
I'm gonna be the negative one. Joe Adell is having
a great week and a half. There's no doubt about it.
He's at the ton home runs. He's rostered in about
thirty five percent of the leagues currently. Over the last
five games, got two homers, five RBI. I've seen this
show before Welsh where he goes on a tear for

(05:03):
seven to ten days, maybe even fourteen days, and it
all goes quiet again. I understand that he's a good athlete.
I understand that he's got power and some speed there too. However,
he's only got two stone bases this year, so the
speed really hasn't been the thing for Joe Adell anymore. So,
if you're in a deep league with outfield. I get
taking Joe Adell and trying to catch lightning in a bottle,

(05:25):
but I don't want to spend too much on it. Welsh,
I got to be honest with you. I just feel
like it's a waste of fab and a giant trap.
What do you think about this recent hot stretch from
Joe Adell.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
I've got interest, and that's where we differ. You know,
he's a batting average still kind of stinks round two twenty,
but he's got around to seventy expected batting average two seventy.
Jo Adell is a complete game changer because he's got some,
you know, pretty big hard hit numbers.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
He can put up. Bat speed is way up.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
It's up over a mile and a mile and a
half per hour versus previous year. He's opened his stands
up more, and you know, we've had new batted like
Stance dat over on Baseball Savant, and we learn about
attack angle, and his attack angle was well below average,
and it's the best it's been in a couple of years.
So he's getting to the ball better, which is equating
to better barrel percentages. The hardest average ex velocity he's

(06:15):
had in his career, the best hard hit percentage, lowered
strikeouts Listen, Joe Adell has been a failure for many,
many years, but he is some loud tools. He's hitting
a bunch of homers, fifty points better overall expected batting average,
and a huge, massive underperformance against fastballs around one hundred points.
I believe it is that he's going to go in
that positive direction. I actually think Joe Adele is someone

(06:38):
decent to speculate on right now. But I am worried
he's going to come back down to earth. He's got
his problems and stuff, but there's a lot of things
that are saying like if he's a two forty two
to fifty hitter, I think he's going to be pretty
valuable in fantasy. So the low what is the ownership percentage,
isn't it like thirty five percent on CBS?

Speaker 3 (06:53):
I think I want to pick him up in five
outfielder leagues.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Loud Tools, by the way, was the original working title
for our show for the two and who knows it
might come back again. We've been called worse. Let's get
to OTTOKEMP third base, Philadelphia. He got the call when
Bryce Harper went on the il Welsh and he's had
a really good year so far Triple A. We've talked
about him on leading off time and time again, especially
early in the season. He's a twenty five year old kid,

(07:16):
but you know your message. You want to say, well,
he's an older prospect and all that stuff. He's also
been blocked by Alec Bowm and Bryce Harper last couple
of years, so it really wasn't a lot of room
for outto camp. But at Triple A this year three thirteen, four, sixteen, five,
ninety four slash, fourteen homers, nineteen doubles, forty nine runs
scored and eleven steals. Now he's gotten off to a
slow start so far in the big leagues. This week,

(07:36):
that's fine. He's had a couple of strikeouts, five strikeouts
and four games. But however long he is up, there's
an opportunity that if he gets hot, who knows if
he could press for more playing time. He is a
versatile guy. That's a plus with Auto camp, so maybe
it's just more of a band aid. Again, he's available
in practically every league, ninety percent available right now, just

(07:56):
ten percent roster. What do you make of Auto Kemp
in this stretch. He's gonna get here the Phillies.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
I think deeper leagues there's some value. The offense in
general is really exciting. He's got a quick bat speed
seventy four point five, which looks really good, really great
contact numbers in the minors power speed combos. I watched
it in the AFL like he's like a solid player.
I've always likened it similar. I wouldn't be surprised if
he and I know this will read negatively, but like
you remember how David Schneider came in and he had

(08:22):
that like big run, and you know he's hitting the
ball really hard and fast and good barrel numbers like
that's who I think Kim can kind of get to.
But he's going to hit lower in that Phillies lineup.
I think it's a deeper league play. The sample size
it stinky, but it doesn't tell us much of anything.
Right now, He's going to get an opportunity while Harper
is out, So I think deep leagues I am actually

(08:43):
willing to make a little attempt at him, especially if
it's a really barren waiver wire, just because if things
start to click there are you know. I don't think
the stolen bases are going to be big. But there's
like theoretical five tools in there.

Speaker 1 (08:54):

Waiver Assistant and get an edge on the waiver wire. Today,
let's start with Chad Patrick, another one of the many
Brewers pitchers that we've talked about over this time. I
know miss Rowski's gonna make us start this week. Logan Henderson,

(09:35):
when he's gotten opportunities, has been great. But Chad Patrick
quietly putting together a really good season. He's only three
to five, but sixty nine innings, sixty three strikeouts, twenty
one walks, a one point two to one whip and
a two eight four ERA. Patrick has been really solid,
and it kind of shocked me Welsh that he was
available still in fifty percent of leagues. Again, I know
this is a higher percentage, but if youre in a

(09:56):
shallow league right now and you're hurting because you've lost
one of the many pitchers to go down in the
last two weeks to injury, Pablo Lopez burns all these guys.
If you're in a ten team league, Patrick is probably
on the waiver wire, and he's a guy that you
could probably stream, at least for the time being.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Yeah, I think he's a decent streamer.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
I've kind of been continuously like playing against him like
things are going to fall apart. It just really haven't
fallen no hard. He does have an expected ERA that
is almost a run higher. If that only gets him
around three and a half, which is more than serviceable.
He's not giving up like a bunch of hard hit
or barreled contact. His cutter, specifically, it's got a ten
run value according to Baseball so far. I mean, that

(10:35):
is probably one of the most valuable pitches so far
this year it has.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
It is absolute monster.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
He's not a big, crazy wiff guy, but he does
have some cap percentage and there's forcing fastballs almost a
twenty eight percent CA percentage, so you know they're unlocking
some of these guys. I do worry long term, you know,
if healthy and you've got what you know Peralta, what
multiverse Woodruff is actually pitching, You've got Logan Anderson Misrowski,

(11:01):
like does.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Chad Patrick continue to stay in?

Speaker 2 (11:02):
But that's not really your worry with him because he's
not a long term guy. I think he's a decent streamer.
Not looking to stream him against like, you know, the
Dodgers of the Padres, but you know, there's a bunch
of other teams at this point. You can probably stream
against the Diamondbacks, his former team, and a host of others,
So I think I would be interested in streaming him
looking for two starts as well.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Another guy that we kind of made jokes about, and
I guess the joke's on us because Bryce Elder went
out and threw an incredible performance twelve strikeouts in his
most recent outing. I've never seen a Bryce Elder twelve
strikeout performance. He's only twenty six years old, and now
he's got that rotation spot for the foreseeable future with
the injuries that they've had in that rotation. So with
Swiss Sharv out with the elbow issue, Elder is in.

(11:43):
The question is what kind of value does he have.
He's rostered in about thirty five percent of leagues. Again,
he has not been a guy well she's really been
a big strikeout pitcher. So this really came out of nowhere,
and I just wonder if people are going to artificially
chase it, or maybe they should. Maybe Elder is finding
this other gear now now after being up a few
years now in the major leagues, being bounced back and

(12:04):
forth between the miners. What do you think about Elder's
most recent performance and his value in the waver are.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yeah, I'm not sure if I massively buy the strikeouts.
And one of the things that stands out it looks
like he's moved to more primary slider. He threw a
thirty one percent of the time last year, it's thirty
nine percent. It's the number one pitch that he's throwing,
but the whiff rate has kind of gone down, so
like you got to be more efficient, especially with your
secondary stuff if that is your main pitch, if that's

(12:29):
what you're going to But the whiff rates are also
really low. Is change up is like under twelve percent.
Four seem and sinker those are under thirteen percent. So
it's all sliders. So I kind of don't think the
strikeout potential is going to continue, but the pitch mix
change has led to some really good results. Whip numbers
have kind of come down, Walks are at a career
low at like six point nine. I think it's kind

(12:51):
of like Chad Patrick, to be honest with you, though,
I think I might lean on Elder just a tiny
bit more. I can kind of get into he's got
the mix, you got the for seam and the sinker
interchange up to change eye levels when you're throwing a slider,
and that slider if it can even become more efficient,
I think that would be kind of exciting, But I
think I would probably prioritize him a tiny bit over
Chad Patrick.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
All right, we got two more guys to talk about.
Two relievers. David Bednar of the Pittsburgh Pirates forty eight
percent rostered. Kind of surprising again, when everyone just looking
for saves, you saw Martinez going the il. We've seen
all these problems in Texas and other places too. I
think Bednar is going to be on the block pretty soon.
The Pirates are awful, so somebody's going to go after
Bednar and take a shot on him, I think, and

(13:32):
the cheap And then Michael Kopek, who just came back
for the Dodgers, and we know some of the struggles
they've had closing out games. He's just fourteen percent rostered,
so he's looked sharp in his debut. Bednar and Kopek.
Any thoughts on those two guys as you speculate in bullpens.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
My only worry with Bednar is he doesn't go to
a place like the Rangers. And you go to the Rangers,
it's like, oh cool, you know you're going to be
the closer. But you go to a team like the
Dodgers and it's like, oh cool, you're in a five
man rotation of potential saves, like what happened to Kirby Gate.
So I'm a little bit worried about him. I completely
agree that he's going to end up getting traded though,
but he's really kind of found himself give up way

(14:07):
too much bare to contact, but it's the best key
percentage of his career. So you just want to see
a team that's in need of closing help Atlanta. I
wouldn't hate with Iglesias, even though that might create a
little bit of a chism. I would like the Rangers.
I think the Rangers would be a good spot, but
there's something dicey there. Kopec I definitely think is going
to be in line. They keep saying that Scott's not
in too much danger. If he does get put in

(14:30):
a spot where like they want to move on. I
think Copek is the next guy.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
I think they're not going to go to like it
might be Kopek. Yeah, yeah, I don't think Yates.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
I think Gates might be like a set up type
of guy fireman for Scott, and Kopek gets some saves.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
So I think if you're looking for cheap saves, it's Kopek.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
I feeling for long term value, it's Bednard, but understand
trades could actually hurt him more than make it better.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
