(00:00):
Hello, everybody. Welcome to Geek News Central episode
eighteen fifty. It's one of your two hosts,
Chris Cochran.
Yeah. It's been a while since I've been
on the mic.
Honestly,
I really don't know what happened. I think
I let let time get the best of
me and I lost track of it. Thankfully,
there are two hosts of this show, so
Ray was able to deliver you guys episodes

(00:21):
every single week.
So, you know, shout out to him, honestly.
I know for some time I've been trying
to make an episode, but I just never
got around to it because I just I
just had a lot of stuff to deal
with. But the last one I listened to,
you know, I think with every single one,
it's fun because
we get better each time. Right? And we're
able to critique. And I was listening to

(00:42):
the last one, and I was like, man,
my, like I I talked to my grandma
about this, but, man,
I talk fast. And I do apologize.
So, I do I'm gonna challenge myself to
talk slower just because
it's a problem I face,
in my day to day. It's actually a
problem that's, you know, kind of affecting one

(01:03):
of my new jobs that I'm gonna talk
about in a second.
But, you know, I'm gonna try, you know,
keep it slow, keep it steady today, not
really rush the conversation pieces, and just make
sure I'm getting the right information out without
slurring and making it confusing for you guys.
But, yeah, honestly, today's episode, we're not covering

(01:25):
too much. I'm just gonna go do some,
gadget overview of October, you know, just do
a little breakdown.
We're gonna be talking about NVIDIA
supplying over 260,000
Blackwell AI chips to South Korea.
And then we're just gonna talk about some
Google upgrades,
Gemini app Gemini
AI for Android enterprise apps.

(01:48):
But, yeah, like I said earlier, I I
was saying I I started a new job.
I actually started a new job in this
past week and a half. It's my second
job. I'm still gonna be working my my
first job as my main one.
And I've been trying to look for a
second job recently because if you guys don't
know, you know,
with the
way the world is or, you know, it's
it's it's just in general,

(02:08):
Hawaii is a very play,
expensive place to live. Alright?
It's not cheap. It's not the most affordable
place, but it's my home. I was born
and raised here. So
at the moment, I'm very happy here and
I wanna stay here.
It's not like I'm struggling or anything like
that. It's it's just one of those things
where I've been looking for a second job
because I have the time for a second

(02:30):
job.
And I just wanna be able to,
you know, just make a little extra income
because why not? Right? If I had the
time, I'm not gonna be really doing much
besides, you know,
kinda bumming it out at home. And that's
not what I want for myself, especially at
my age
of, you know, the young ripe age of
21.
I'm gonna be 22 this year actually in

(02:50):
about
a month. That's crazy to say. 2025
went by really fast. Holy smokes. Anyone else
feel that way?
Yeah. 2025 went by really, really fast. I
feel like we say that every single year.
It's kinda crazy how the older we get,
the faster time it was by. It's kinda
nuts.
But, yeah, like I said, about this job,
it's a it is a sales job. So

(03:10):
thankfully, they were able it's one of those
things I'm able to work around my current
job because
it's strictly ten ninety nine, so it's all
commission.
I'm not gonna go in-depth about what my
job position is, but I will say, man,
it's it's been challenging. It's it's one of
those things where,
you know, it really test your resilience.

(03:30):
But,
you know,
with
all the hard work that comes with it,
I'm kinda looking forward to the future and
what it's gonna provide for me and how
I will grow as a person and what
other opportunities
this might,
lead me into. And it's super exciting, and
I'm really excited for this new chapter in
my life.

(03:51):
But, yeah, you know, like,
it's it's just one of those things where
I I thought I'd talk about for a
little bit, give you guys a little update
on my life, and I think I I'll
keep you guys updated as the more I
do my job. But, you know,
super excited, honestly. Super excited.
Let's get into the show, though. I was
gonna cover our first topic real quick, our

(04:11):
headliner.
I just wanna talk about how, you know,
this month,
the Gear Gods were, you know, they were
feeling generous. K?
From, like, new handheld gaming PCs,
from Lenovo
and the Microsoft Asus Duo,
to Apple dropping a bucket load of devices
powered by its latest m five chip.

(04:32):
Honestly, October delivered. It came through.
According to the folks at Gizmodo,
it wasn't just about shiny new toys either.
We saw, like, wireless earbuds,
wearables, and a wave of AR smart glasses.
Some honestly, you know, worth the hype and
others less so.
But, you know, if you are shopping, streaming,

(04:53):
you know, or gaming, or even just curious
about what side hustles
your tech can support,
This is honestly your time.
The gadget market is both booming and branching.
Whether you want
the latest console,
the slickest wearable, or, you know, something niche
to spice up your live stream live stream
setup. You know? There are, you know, fresh

(05:15):
options. So just to do a quick rundown
on some of these. I talked about some
of these devices actually on one of my
shows not too long ago, but we're gonna
there was the m five Apple iPad Pro.
We had the Vision Pro m five chip
and with the 14 inch MacBook Pro m
five chip. Yeah. We also had the Asus
ROG Xbox Ally x. And talk about this

(05:35):
one. This one was new to me, the
Matic robot vacuum,
Bose QuietComfort
Ultra headphones,
the Google Pixel Buds two a,
the Lenovo Legion Pro,
7i, and the Meta Ray band display smart
glasses.
Just to do a little sum up on
some of these gadgets, you know, the iPad,

(05:57):
the m five devices in general.
I feel like,
in my opinion, like, if you have like
a m three or m four, you shouldn't
be too much of in a rush to
get this, you know.
Like any of these devices.
Personally, like focusing on I would only be
focusing on the iPad Pro or the MacBook
Pro just because I'm not a big fan

(06:18):
of the Vision Pro headsets. But,
you know,
I don't think if you're in the play
like, if you're in a place of like,
you know, where you don't really need an
upgrade, then to go don't do it. But
if you if you're really itching for it,
I mean, might as well,
since it's out.
But, you know, the one that really stands
out for me the most is probably the
Apple iPad Pro with the m five chip.
You know, I feel like that's if anything,

(06:39):
that's what I'm most excited for.
Especially with the, you know, the extraordinary fast
storage speeds
and
all that stuff. Right?
With the Asus ROG Xbox Ally,
that was another handheld device we talked about.
Excuse me.
It's just one of those things. It's like
a new competitor in the area.

(07:00):
You know, we we compared the prices before.
It does seem to offer two different options
for the Xbox Ally.
And comparing it to the Nintendo Switch and
the Steam Deck,
you know, one of their options does,
fall into the same category of price range.
But, you know, that's for, like, the more,
quote unquote casual gamers.
But for,

(07:22):
you know, the more expensive one, it it
it is almost twice the price. And oh
my god. I need to probably drink some
water soon. But
to me, it's
it's kinda ridiculous.
You know, you can almost get a pretty
decent sized PC
for that same price of what they're offering
for the the pro version of their Xbox

(07:42):
ally x. But,
you know,
I think it's overpriced for a handheld experience,
for gaming, you know. Me personally, like,
I think with handheld gaming, it's it's one
of those things where it's either you're gonna
love it or you're not gonna need it
at all. You know, some people think, like,
wonder if this is gonna be like the
neck the future of gaming. Right? But, you

(08:04):
know, me personally, I'm a multiplayer
gaming type of guy, and I like to
use games for their fullest quality. So I
like to play on the consoles, and I
like to play on monitors.
You know,
it handheld gaming is really good for the
convenience, but I I like to enjoy games
for their full experience. And that's why I
think consoles are much better option. But, you

(08:25):
know, to each their own, honestly, at the
end of the day. Right?
Apparently, the the pro version is supposed to
be, you know,
meant for those
die hard gamers.
So if it lives up to the expectation,
then that's awesome.
But at the moment, I personally don't see
myself investing my,
money into the Asus ROG x by, Ally

(08:48):
X.
One more thing, just talking about,
the Meta Ray Ban display smart glasses.
Some things that stands out about this is
that
there's new there's good screen quality. There's less
light bleed
and there's a unique Neuroband control option.
But it's still

(09:08):
lacking enough apps, but you know, it's promising.
So
honestly,
if you guys remember what I said about
the vision pro, I feel like
smart glasses are the next option. I feel
like it's the next best thing as the
world goes by,
you know. And as technology improves, these glasses
are only gonna get better and better and

(09:29):
better and better.
And eventually, like, everyone's gonna be wearing these
glasses. Like, we already see a handful of
people wearing these Ray Ban medic glasses. So
it's it's honestly just a sign at the
beginning.
You know, Vision Pro or VR headsets are
kinda meant for, like, home home type of
ideal entertainment or usage. Like, I think it's
just a little silly when people wear Vision
Pros in in public, if if I'm being

(09:50):
honest. Like,
it's it's just looks kinda ridiculous when that
big big chunk of,
technology is just sitting on your head, but
a to each their own.

(12:19):
Next topic, we're gonna be talking just a
little bit about the NVIDIA on how they
supplied over 260,000
Blackwell AI chips to South Korea.
So Nvidia announced that it will deliver more
than 260,000
of its cutting edge Blackwell AI chips to
South Korea government
and major companies including like Samsung

(12:39):
Electronics,
SK Hynix, and Hyundai Motor Group. Okay.
This isn't just big hardware.
It signals that South Korea is doubling down
on AI infrastructure,
not just for chat bots or generic apps,
but for smart factories,
autonomous vehicles and, you know, national scale computing.

(13:02):
You know, the next generation of tech isn't
only about what your phone or laptop can
do. It's also about what the factories,
factories AI and transport systems behind the scenes
are building.
If you're into tech careers or just just
where the jobs and innovations are headed, you
know, keep an eye on regions like Korea.
They may become the engines of AI growth.

(13:23):
Next, we're just gonna talk about, how Google
upgraded Gemini AI for Android enterprise apps.
So in another corner of the AI arena,
you know, Google is making moves. So their
AI model, Gemini, it's getting embedded deeper into
Android enterprise workflows with, you know, new tools
for developers to integrate OnDeFi's AI features.

(13:45):
Think of it as smarter apps that run
smoothly,
respect privacy more, and open new possibilities for
business or productivity apps.
And, you know, what does this mean for
you guys? You know, whether you develop software,
manage workflows, or even just, you know, use
a lot of productivity apps,
this matters. K. Because on device AI means,

(14:06):
you know, faster responses,
less lag, and a fewer privacy trade offs.
So, you know, it hits that tool chains
might get smarter.
Aiding with work, reducing friction, and all that
stuff.
Next, we're gonna be talking about, you know,
it's kind of interesting.
I like to include some fun engineering

(14:27):
kind of it's this one's kind of fun,
but also, like,
some cool news.
Anyway, I'm gonna get on with it. It's
about how security teams are rapidly adopting, you
know, new methods to deal with drone threats.
It's not just by, you know, shooting them
down, but they're trying to use, like, non
lethal tools that disable or disrupt, you know,
these drones instead.

(14:48):
The growing problem is that small drones, sometimes
in swarms are being used for surveillance,
you know, attacks or malicious task. So traditional
defense systems are, you know, they're often too
expensive
or, you know, slow for everyday use.
But in response, engineers are,
and engineers and defense firms are developing systems

(15:09):
that can jam drone controls,
disrupt navigation
or even safely even, force drones to land,
all without blowing things up or risking collateral
damage.
Now these systems use things like radio frequency
jamming, high power microwaves,
targeted lasers, or smart response drones that intercept
and neutralize threats.
You know, the goal was to create layered

(15:30):
defense around sensitive areas, that can respond quickly
and safely.
It means, you know, that drone evolution
isn't just about delivering or filming anymore. You
know, it's also about defense control and
how technology is changing, what safe, you know,
looks like in our skies.
Finally, you guys know I like to add

(15:52):
a little space news in. We're gonna talk
about this little comet.
K?
It's possibly the world's the it's probably the
oldest comet ever seen. K? So what about
it? It's called 31 Atlas or 31 slash
Atlas. I'm not trying to pronounce this. You
guys can let me know. But it's a
it's an interstellar comet that was detected this
year. Its trajectory is highly hyperbolic, meaning it's

(16:15):
just passing through.
And, you know, we'll leave again.
But because of its origin in motion, scientists
do believe it could be billions of years
older than our solar system.
So it said that the object, it likely
came from the Milky Way's thick disk, a
region made up of very old stars.
Now that implies that 31 Atlas might be

(16:37):
7,000,000,000 years old or more.
Well, even maybe even older than 4,600,000,000
years
old.
And,
spectroscopic
and telescopic observations,
show it has unusual compositions.
It's very rich in carbon dioxide.
It's relative to water and in which differs
from typical comets we've seen in the solar

(16:59):
system.
Because it's interstellar and ancient, studying this comet
gives astronomers a rare chance to look backwards,
you know, to understand how comets and planets
might have formed in others, you know, star
systems long before ours.
And, you know, it's not expected to become
a bright naked eye comet, but telescopes are
actively observing it as it moves through the
inner parts of our system.

(17:21):
Think about this, you know, a piece of
comic debris older than Earth, older than our
sun is flying through a neighborhood. You know,
that's wild.
And it means that the building blocks of
planets and life might have been scattered around
the galaxy for, you know, far longer than
we generally imagine.
You know, for those in tech and engineering,
you know, this kind of discovery, you know,
basically underscores, you know, how instruments, sensors,

(17:45):
spectroscopy,
trajectory analysis, and data pipelines all come together
in surprising ways.
You know, there's there's heavy data
works behind, you know, just a comment.
And for, you know, just us, you know,
it humbles us, you know, we often treat
the solar system as everything. But, you know,
here's a visitor from the outside with its
own history,

(18:05):
you know, and it that kinda invites us
to keep looking upward, you know, and outward
and, you know, being more open minded about
things.
But yeah. Just want to finish up with
the space news. You guys know me. I
like to finish up with the space news
and
all that. The date is November 1.
Yesterday was October.
Oh, hello. Not October. Yesterday was Halloween. Sorry.

(18:28):
And I had a conversation at work today.
And it's kind of funny, like,
I don't really, like, celebrate Halloween anymore. I
don't really do Halloween. I feel like the
last time I really,
like, I really cared for Halloween was when
I was in elementary school, if I really
think about it. You know? And I think
I kinda got over it really quick in
in middle school. So I guess it's just
a little pull to leave off with. You

(18:49):
know, there are people my age and older
that do still like to celebrate Halloween and
dress up and have fun. You know? There's
nothing wrong with that.
Me, I'm not really big on partying and
drinking, so it's it's not my type of
thing. Right? That's what a lot of people
my age like to do. They like to
dress up, go to the club or dress
up and go to the bars
or all that kind of stuff. But,
you know, it kinda kinda leaves I'm gonna

(19:09):
leave you guys off with a little pull,
you know? What do you guys do on
Halloween? Are you guys home bodies and like
to watch horror movies?
Do you guys like to dress up and,
you know, have friends over and do parties?
Or do you like to dress up and
go to the club and just go crazy
and have, you know, have the time of
your life? You know? Just a little question
to end this off, you know? But,

(19:32):
yeah, I know I keep talking about how
I want to do more podcast episodes. And,
you know, unfortunately,
just the reality of it all is just,
you know, life gets in the way sometimes.
And, unfortunately, like my dad, you know, you
know, he had this was his main thing.
This is his life. And,
and, you know, we're doing our best to,
you know, continue in his footsteps. And hopefully,

(19:53):
like I said, as the more more we
get better with the workflow, the more we
get better with being consistent with the shows,
the better the show is gonna get. Like
today, I can already tell,
I I tried to keep my pacing as
slow as possible
just because I wanna make it easier for
you guys as listeners to listen in. But
already thinking back at it now,
me slowing down kinda just like,

(20:15):
you know, puts a puts a mute on
my energetic side, you know.
So, you know, finding balance in the in
between the two of those is is gonna
be, you know, a trial and error type
of deal. But again,
I can't help but but thank you guys
for always, you know, coming through to the
show. We really appreciate your guys' support and

(20:35):
just always tuning in. Okay?
But, yeah, I'll see you guys in your
next episode the next episode when I'm here.
And if not, you know, Ray will take
over for the next one or, you know,
you know how it is. We're gonna keep
switching on and off. Our goal is Monday
and Thursday. Okay? And again, I know this
is a Saturday, November 1, but, you know,
our goal is to

(20:55):
hopefully, you know, get you guys on a
consistent
listening,
weekly schedule. So, you know, you don't always
have to be worrying about when the next
episode's coming out.
Again, really appreciate you guys for tuning in,
and I hope you guys have a, you
know, great next week ahead of you. And
I'll see you guys in the next one.
Thank you.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
