the new Jets quarterback. He responds to Broncos head coach
Sean Payton. Sean Payton went scorched. Earth was crushing the
Daniel Hackett, crushed the Jets, actually crushed his current team,
the Broncos, for all they handled Russell Wilson last year,

and Rogers didn't take He took exception to it. He
didn't take kindly to these comments over here. Crushing the
Daniel Hackett, who's his offensive coordinator with the Jets right
now here is what Rogers had to say on NFL Plus.

I love Nathaniel Hackett, and those comments were very surprising
for a coach to do that to another coach. It
made me feel bad that someone who's accomplished a lot
in the league. Is that insecure that they have to
take another man down to set themselves up for some
sort of easy fall if it doesn't go well for
that team this year. I thought it was way out

of line, inappropriate, and I think he needs to keep
my coach's names out of his mouth.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
We got words back and forth. If you missed it,
what Sean Payton originally said about Nathaniel Hackett his coaching
job last year with the Broncos. It might have been
one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of
the NFL, that's how bad it was. And he talked
about the Broncos doing basically the exact opposite of what
went down last season. Rogers didn't like it. He let

it be known. Look, George, I understand where Rogers is
coming from, and for Seany to go scorched earth the
way he did, I can understand why Rogers would take
exception to that, and I like how he laid it
out there. I have no problem with what he said.

First question is, but did he lie?

Though, No, he did not.

He did. I'm not talking about Aaron Rodgers. I'm talking
I know Sean.

The only thing I didn't like about Sean Payton's statement

top for an NFL coach to to say that about

And then and they Sean Payton came back and said, well, man,

own it. You can't then go back and be like, ah, man, listen,
I was just still analysting, bro, just just keep it
a bean, Just keep it a hunt and be like
I said what I said. Yeah, at that point, if
you weren't gonna full fledge apologize.

Then then you gotta go. I said what I said.

Right, and listen. Sean Payton regreted it. This was his
comment following his Scorched Earth comments. Right, so he does
this USA Today interview with Jarrett Bell. He says Nathaniel
Hackett was awful last year. I'm paraphrasing. Then he circled
back the next day after this becomes a full blown story.

And this is what Sean Payton had to say.

I had one of those moments where I still had
my Fox hat on and not my coaching on, and uh,
you know, I said this to the team in the
meeting yesterday. We've had a great off season relative to that,
you know, and I've been preaching that message. And here
I am the veteran, you know, stepping in it. And uh,
it was. It was a learning experience for me. It
was a mistake. Obviously I needed a little bit more filter.

We're past that season last year, and and you know
I said what I said, and obviously I needed it
a little bit more restraint.

Yes, yeah, showed a litle bit more restraint there. I've
got the reds for the record. But but now hear you, George.
It's one of those deals where we know how he
really feels regard so he can spin it and say, hey,
I regret that I should have chosen my words more carefully.
I still had my analyst had on you know, my bad.
That's fine. He can dress it up however he wants,

but at the end of the day, Nathaniel Hackett knows
exactly how Sean Payton feels about him.

Yes, and the job he did, and so he knows
how everybody else feels about it too, because it was shoddy.
Now I will say though that I did not have
on my bingo card. Multiple Jets players coming out to
defend Nathaniel Hackett, and it's not that he's not their coach.

It's just when do players have to come out and
defend their coach. It actually goes the other way around,
not Nathaniel Hackett getting defended by Aaron Rodgers. He's supposed
to defend Aaron Rodgers, not the other way around. Because
if you if you have Robert Salah make comments about

it like for you know, just saying, oh, basically, hater's
gonna hater's gonna hate. Then as a player, I promise
you I'm not commenting on this. I'm not because because
the way the coaching profession works is is that they
give their friends jobs jobs for people who they've worked

at at other places, and you know, and and their
kids friends and their you know, former teammates and.

All that stuff. That's who they give jobs to.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
So and as a player, you are always auditioning for
the other thirty two teams of the other thirty one
teams in the league. What I'm not gonna do is
get on here and defend a coach vehemently like that.
Uh uh nope, nope, n a because I might need
one of these other jobs later. So uh yeah, I

gotta look out for me, because y'all always gonna look
out for you.

Yeah, listen, I hear you. It's certainly the exception. It
has happened. I couldn't think of it off the top
of my head, so I've been digging. It happened after
the playoff loss. Remember the Chargers blew that huge lead
against Jacksonville, and there are a lot of critics coming
after Brandon Staley. Justin Herbert was one of the guys
that stood up and had his coaches back. It happens

from time to time, but you're right, it's the exception.
It's the other way around. Typically it's the head coach
supporting the player. Every now and then you get the
player supporting the coach. But I hear you right, like, well,
to be fair, coach has changed addresses too. Brandon Staley
might be one of those guys changing addresses if he
doesn't get it done. So you know, he had some

movement that way.

As well, Absolutely so.

But it is rare that you see coaches come out
and criticize another one because because that business, it's the
good old boys networking.

You don't step on the good old boys like.

You got to have, you know, either deep enough pockets
or a deep enough you know, like goodwill built up
generally around the league. But seanp Sean Payton in particular,
he's a guy that if this don't work out for him,
he'll go right back into booth, no problem. He's a
super Bowl champion. You know somebody will want him.

Fox was like, where was this when you were here?
Because he was very milk toast. Oh Fox, he didn't
want to rock the boat and he's looking for another job.

right calf, which makes it even more so. And remember
it's not just a calf strain because he already had

trade from Indy. He met with Colt Steam owner Jim Ursay.
That's where he requested the trade. And this is wild.
This escalated very very quickly, where Ersay is just a
couple of days ago. This week, he put out a

tweet where he was talking about the running back situation
and hey, we've got a negotiated CBA. Things aren't changing.
We're not switching around the value of franchise tags or
then obviously that was not the greatest thing that Jonathan
Taylor wanted to hear, and then Ersay he clarified those comments,

speaking to ESPN, saying the comment wasn't really directed at Jonathan.
We haven't exchanged any contract numbers with each other or
anything like that, so it's not like we're in the
midst of that. And it's like, wait, hold on, so
you haven't even offered this kind of contract. That doesn't
help things either. And now we get the trade request.
What do you make of this whole scenario?

Whoever is advising Jonathan Taylor, he needs to fire them, Like,
why are you demanding a trade at this point in time?
You're demanding a trade for what you are in a
contract year and you have to play and you have

to play well, So why are we.

Hey, why are we having this discussion? You rushed for
eight hundred yards last year and weren't healthy. What is

source that this man wanted that he wants an extension

Listen, it is not gonna happen. He could rest for
two thousand yards this year. He's not getting McCaffrey money.
It is just not in the cars for running backs

paid like that.

do get that. But to your point, George, what other
team is going to show him the love? It's just
the market as a whole. So even if he goes elsewhere,
he's not gonna get the deal he's seeking from them either.

No, he could be a free agent right now and
he's not gonna get And he's not gonna get sixteen million.

Dollars a year.

No, absolutely not. No, especially like you said, he's not
coming off of his eighteen hundred season like two years ago.
He's coming off his eight hundred season. In terms of
rushing yards, that's a big difference.

Yeah, I just think that we need to that like
players are filling a little bit more anxious at this
moment and that they're trying to find a way. But
Jonathan Taylor has no leverage. He rushs for eight hundred yards.
He needs to play well that first of all, he
needs to play so he can get a new contract, right,

and then he needs to play well so he can
get a new contract. So he needs to do a
so like sitting out or whole Now, that isn't an option.
So he's just gonna do just sit there and be
frustrated all season. Who can they trade you to that
is going to pay you big money?

for you? I mean that's a question. Think about that.

point in time. At one point in time, I thought

Not where the market is.

and you're trading for a player. Is there any running
back in the league that Brian No would trade for

market show in terms of value, in terms of production. Yeah,
I think you could make that argument. But if I
don't have to overspend, right, if I can get you

first round pick for?

Do you think a team would trade at this age
for for Kelsey? If he was somehow on the trading block,
you think they'd get a filled.

I mean if you get three three more top tier
years out of him, then hell it was worth it.

were productive last year haven't boiled homes yet. Ezekiel Elliott
