Donald Trump was embarrassingly Insufferable today when meeting with the newest leader of our former closest ally, Canada. The U.S. President has repeatedly threatened to make our Neighbor to the north our 51st State. And Canadians are appalled and disgusted by that threat. Today, newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney clearly declared, "Some things are not for Sale, Canada is not for Sale. Ever."
And the bully president replied, "Never say never."
President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke to reporters as they met in the Oval Office to discuss U.S.-Canada trade and military relations, and the prime minister's first trip out of the country since becoming Canada's top legislator.
Mr. Carney reiterated his earlier stance that Canada was "not for sale," despite President Trump's reiteration of his desire for the nation to become the 51st state. The two talked about the ongoing dispute on tariffs, specifically those levied on automakers and suppliers who work on both sides -- and across -- the border.
So why does Carney tolerate Trump? Because it's his job and he is a diplomat and a gentleman. And He is doing it for the good of his country. Lucky Canada.
