Cowboys got a nice win over the Panthers with CeeDee Lamb setting records, the defense dominating at times and Rico Dowdle continuing to chew up yards. Has the running game perked up because of the offensive line? If it’s time for young players to get more of a look, should Tyler Guyton be playing? And is Osa Odighizuwa one of the best defensive tackles in the game now? Plus, Nate shares stories (and plans?) about him and Deion Sanders.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Cowboys blowing out of the backfield, exploding down the sideline.
This he is hanging with the Boys, presented by wing
Stuff Where Flavor gets its wings. Now your hosts Nate Newton,
Kurt Daniels, Jesse Holly, and Shannon Grosso.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Monday Victory Monday.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
Looking live at Tostitos Championship Plaza outside Fort Center at
the Star in Frisco, Texas, where, believe it or not,
it is seventy two degrees, the highest seventy three, the
lowest fifty five.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
It is muggy as hell outside.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
Yes, he's Shinnon, He's name Chris. In the back Josh,
and who knows who else back there? Our man Jesse
has got bigger and better things to do today. He's
serving the community.

Speaker 6 (01:13):
I guess yes he is.

Speaker 5 (01:14):
I'm Kurt trying to fill his place. Together, we are
the sports talk equivalent to brill people. Then we speak.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Here you go, Kurt fought through it, brought to each
and every day by Wingstop where flavor gets its We.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
So before we talk about the game. Yes, Jesse is
not here.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Jesse is doing the best thing that Jesse has ever
done with his life.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Contrary to popular belief, it was not playing in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
But every year Jesse takes deserving kids shopping on a
shopping spree. He raises money off and on all year
and solicits donations. And today is the day he's taking
kids shopping and.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Uh doing some good.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
So Jesse's Jesse's Jesse's a lot of things, but a
good dude is at the top of the list.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
He's actually a good human being and he cares, so
he does. Jesse, thanks for doing what you do. Now.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
Jesse also talks a lot, and Jesse self promotes.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
And that's why we love Jesse because he's very versatile.
He has a lot of different characteristics.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
But no, Jesse is a great thing that that you
do and and we appreciate you doing that.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
And maybe we'll see you tonight if we can get
out there. So your excuse for missing the show. Now
on to football, Chris. What time did you get home
last night? Eight o'clock? Well we landed today, Yes, pretty
easy trip.

Speaker 6 (02:49):
How was it? That would have been a full night?

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Woe y'all have got it? Would you have even gone
home to change straight.

Speaker 7 (03:00):
Playing Cowboys Cafe for a couple hours around about ten
or eleven, and then another Uh so.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
When you traveled, would you plan your outfit that you
wore on the plane on the way back.

Speaker 7 (03:11):
We just take the ties off into coats and whatever
we got on that.

Speaker 8 (03:14):
That was it.

Speaker 9 (03:15):
Yes, they don't have to wear the coat and tie
on the plane.

Speaker 6 (03:18):
Now they don't now, but back then, you know we
did it.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Is it? Is it warm up suits now, Chris?

Speaker 9 (03:23):
Warm up suits for the players?

Speaker 6 (03:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (03:26):
What about y'all business account attire, business attire? So whatever?

Speaker 6 (03:33):
Yeah? Whatever that look Chris right there?

Speaker 4 (03:38):
Yeah, so Kurt start with you. You're you're in the
talking chair today, trouble. Yeah, thoughts on the game? What
did you think to do some push ups?

Speaker 6 (03:53):
Yeah? It was nice.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
It was good to see them. You know, Monday's win
was kind of a gut punch and losing over showing
and all that. It was nice to see them shake
that off, rebound and get a good win over a
team they should be.

Speaker 7 (04:05):
Yeah, Chris, I mean what you think, baby, I mean
your opinion counts today, Chris Bean, we're speaking of what
did you need that?

Speaker 6 (04:14):
I know what you need?

Speaker 3 (04:15):
What was the game?

Speaker 6 (04:16):
What was your thoughts?

Speaker 9 (04:17):
My thoughts on the game is when the Cowboys needed
the defense the decent and stepped up. Yes, like after
that first drive when when when Maris Lea fald punched
that ball out on like the eight yard line. I
think that was huge because they were going in to
take the lead, so that was huge.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
And they just after that they started dominating.

Speaker 6 (04:41):
Wow, that was a good game.

Speaker 7 (04:42):
Yesterday I was watching it from Afar and I tell
this right here, all I could think about was Shannon
and his gang of losers that want a little draft pick.

Speaker 6 (04:53):
That's all I could think of it, Like we're spoiling Shannon.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Hey, I told you I changed Shannon in his gangle.
Winning is fun.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
Okay, surprised you knew this.

Speaker 7 (05:04):
Was gonna this is This is what amazed me about
this team is we have faced better teams with better
overall talent and and say we're gonna win. And I'm like,
this team has Okay, they has Adam Thieling, it's their

(05:26):
best receiver.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Didn't see the field hardly the first half.

Speaker 7 (05:29):
Yes, and then you have the running back I can't
chewb a Hubber. Okay, a decent offensive line. I don't
think they're great because I don't think they have great
lateral movement. And I said, if they run some games
and some stunts, this thing is over. And they started
in with them games stunt Like I want to tell
people to turn your TV off.

Speaker 6 (05:50):
But that have been wrong because I know they was.

Speaker 7 (05:52):
Watching hoping the Cowboys lose so they can have that
high draft pick. So y'all out there with the high
draft up picks on your mind.

Speaker 6 (06:01):
That ain't happening.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Who we got nixt, Let's move on, Let's let's take
some call. Let's move on Tampa Bay. Oh, funny draft picks.

Speaker 7 (06:08):
Back Mayfield, that boy finding away him and Evans. But anyway,
I'm just saying, and I got told Chris, Chris, I'm
gonna need you today.

Speaker 6 (06:16):
We need you to speak up and.

Speaker 7 (06:17):
Talk because so also, Digger, is.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
You got your kid back there? You better watch him out?

Speaker 6 (06:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (06:26):
Yeah, poor, look he's sick, yeah, said DIGGI Zo was
on the post game show and he said to the Kyle,
he said, there was some keys that they found on tape,
right right. Kyle's like, so what were the keys?

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Like a straight face, he goes, I'm not gonna tell
you for real.

Speaker 6 (06:48):
Okay, let's move on the next question. He was like,
that's serious.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
I'm gonna tell you good for him.

Speaker 6 (06:54):
So yeah, wow, Well.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Y'all didn't ask, but I'll give you my thoughts.

Speaker 9 (06:58):
Tell us what we lose, I'm gonna give you. I mean,
they moved like two spots in the whole draft order.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
But go ahead.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
First off, pat myself on the back. I won this week.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
Oh really.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
I had Cowboys twenty seven Panthers twenty one, and.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Nate also won.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
He had blowout by the Cowboys, and then Jesse was
wrong and right. Jesse missed the score Panthers winning. But
DJ Moore he said if he had more than fifty
five receiving yards they would win.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
He did not, so he was right there.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
So I thought it was a sloppy, ugly, messy game.
When you have two bad teams playing each other, that's
what you expect. But I mean, the penalties are.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Blowing my mind. How do you line up all sides
as a cornerback? But how does that happen?

Speaker 4 (07:47):
And look, as much as they're calling that illegal formation
penalty as an offensive lineman, you should walk out of
the huddle and do what Nate.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Used to do.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
This is the snapcount. This is the snapcat. This is
a snapcount. Is my eyes passed his butt? Yes, this
is a snapcount. This is a snapc I mean that
should be the two things you're concentrating on when you
need a scrimmage and.

Speaker 9 (08:12):
They need to do exactly what the wide receiver does
when he comes out. He looks at him down like
when adamsat him, goes, are we good? And he'll give
him like that thumb.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
So you have you have five guys, Yeah, you're good,
You're good.

Speaker 9 (08:26):
Then judges down there, everybody's pointing at him. He's like
he's like.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Scrip a little bit.

Speaker 6 (08:31):
You'n they have game with all them guys.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
I mean, they did what they should have done. And
it's like, you know what is going on with Rico
one hundred and what forty nine yards?

Speaker 3 (08:43):
Is that what he had?

Speaker 6 (08:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (08:46):
One hundred and forty Yeah, one hundred and forty nine
rushing yards twenty five the last three games of the season.
He's got more rushing yards than anybody in the league.
Is I mean, it's like, where where's it was this here?

Speaker 5 (08:58):
All along?

Speaker 6 (08:59):
Nate was?

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Is the offensive line telling you what I've noticed?

Speaker 7 (09:04):
Just a little bit better offensive line play, and he's
patient on his runs. Well, he ain't just running in
the back of people, and people ain't just getting pushed
into him either. So uh, the line is musical chairs
once again. And but they are finding a way. And
the thing about it is they're not playing great teams.

(09:25):
I'm not. I'm not that guy, so I'm not. They're
not playing, but they are taking advantage of the teams
that are are less than what we've faced in the past,
and they're and they're doing it. That's why it was
such a big uproar last week when he stopped with
six minutes in the game. This time he didn't stop.
He just kept forcing the issue. And is Cooper got

(09:47):
a bad hand or something?

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Cooper ruts Wait he throws the ball.

Speaker 7 (09:52):
No, the fumbles in there? I mean, is he not
in line with the center?

Speaker 3 (09:58):
What? What? What's going on?

Speaker 6 (10:00):
We need to get some men's side scoop on that.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
Bring that one off of doubles.

Speaker 6 (10:04):
Yeah, so what? But anyway, they are helped.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
They've played Cincinnati's twenty first and run defense right right,
Washington's twenty sixth. New York is thirty first right in
Carolina's last.

Speaker 6 (10:20):
Okay, so yeah, they're taking advantage.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Yes, do what you do?

Speaker 7 (10:23):
Uh uh you know everybody you know knocking coach by this,
by this play call, and I I just want to see, uh,
by the end of this year, wherever we're sitting, you know,
my year will be satisfied. We we playing the young guys.
It is very ugly. Yes, it hurts. Hurts to lose,

(10:46):
to barely win, or to have eighty five penalties, all
of that hurts. But next year, these same guys should
not be making nowhere near nowhere near these type of mistakes.
And they've you've been under fire, You've played against great players,
you play against mediocre players, and you should just like

(11:07):
a computer, download all of that and how you're to
the main frame or to you whatever the little things
y'all told around shining.

Speaker 6 (11:14):
Yes you could.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
How crazy is this? You could? You could have a
winning record this year with all this bass, all this craziness.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
We gave up eight weeks ago, and can we I
gave up an gave up eight weeks ago, always.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
Trying to bring you did you give up eight weeks ago?

Speaker 5 (11:37):
I didn't think they were making the playoffs now?

Speaker 4 (11:39):
No, I mean, realistically, you could still make the playoffs,
but I mean you kind of real shot it. I mean,
you got you'd have to beat Tampa, the Eagles in Washington,
all which are doing really well right now. But I
mean you could realistically. How many of the next three
games you think they're gonna win, Kurt, They're six and eight,
one one.

Speaker 5 (11:58):
Of those three, roll of those three, I would like to.

Speaker 6 (12:02):
All of those guys are in a playoff.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
Run, right They're fighting for sure.

Speaker 6 (12:06):
I mean they are, in especially Washington, what you call it.

Speaker 7 (12:10):
It's kind of gonna win their division of Tampa Bay.
But Washington is in a dog fighter. The Rams, remember.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Those guys eighteen weeks ago?

Speaker 7 (12:20):
Hey all the Rams don't look too bad, those same Rams.
Yeah they they, Yes, this thing is, this thing is
coming down to the wire for some teams with.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
The Rams Seattle.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
Rams in Seattle are both eight and six, Washington's nine
and five, Arizona seven and seven.

Speaker 5 (12:38):
Yeah, Washington wins one more than Green, yes.

Speaker 6 (12:42):
Four, So.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Yeah, cowboys are not.

Speaker 9 (12:49):
Philly's going for the first round by right now. Yes,
that Detroit lost, that was huge.

Speaker 6 (12:54):
Detroit is going down with injuries.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Boy, yeah running back.

Speaker 6 (12:57):
Yeah, they going down with injuries. The thing that makes this.

Speaker 7 (13:03):
For me, and I know I'm not speaking for the
many out there, but this thing is very intriguing because
now what do you do about signing guys? You know
guys you know, I feel confident now. A couple of
weeks ago, I didn't. Now guys, UH know what they

(13:26):
can do within this system that coach McArthur runs, within
this system what coach Zim runs. So they're starting to
perform like Osa six four weeks ago it was like
Osa Stott. Now Olsa is doing some damage to folks.
That is a question you have to ask yourself where.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
Does he fit.

Speaker 7 (13:50):
Out of the guys that need signing Ghost and I
don't know what his contract is, Like I don't know
what Watston contract.

Speaker 6 (13:58):
But now you got Jordan Lewis. You got to start.

Speaker 7 (14:02):
Giving considerations to these guys because they are core due
to the injuries, they are core members of your team
that have contributed, and a lot of coaches will give
up draft picks for players that they.

Speaker 6 (14:18):
Can depend on to know what to do within their system.

Speaker 7 (14:22):
So we're not big on free agency, and even with
about now, we're big on signing our top dogs out
one A and one B free agencies. But we ain't
never been big on our two B and two C
free agencies. We ain't ben That is stuff that I'm like,
these young guys are starting to perform.

Speaker 6 (14:42):
Now.

Speaker 7 (14:42):
We got these the offensive line, we got them on
the contract. We just hey, bat them on the butt
and get them back in line. But a lot of
these guys on defense, and in about about ten more
guys are free.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
But they have shown you they can play, you know,
be it against.

Speaker 7 (14:58):
The Carolinas of the world, Washington that can't stop to run.
They couldn't stop the Grandmam if they tried. But anyway
they played in the NFL. I mean, what are your
thoughts on that? For getting this game? Man, we were
gonna blow them out regardless, you know, even though Jesse say,
I got that feeling.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Oh, I feel they done gave up over there. Okay, yeah,
they did.

Speaker 6 (15:20):
Fourteen fourteen penalties. They gave up, but he still won.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
I think that, you know, if there's a story to
the season, I think there there's no quitting this team, right,
whether they could have quit five weeks ago, they quit
this week. CDs out there still trying to make plays. Now,
what's driving that is it numbers? You know, he got
what is it? He's the first cowboy to ever have
one thousand yards and the four out of his first

(15:47):
five seasons, so you know, was he was he trying
to get stats? Whatever the case, it doesn't matter. He's
out there with a banged up shoulder taking guys on, hitting.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
Them not just you know, I mean they didn't.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
They haven't quit on coach, right, No, you know, And
I think that's the that's the theme this year is
that there's no quit no matter how bad they're hurt.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
They haven't given up.

Speaker 5 (16:11):
Yeah, they're they're definitely still fighting, and you hope it's
for the coach too. Like they was kind of saying,
some of these guys are in there, yes, sir Golston
Osa you know, twenty something five seven whatever, guys are
playing for contracts next year, so they better not quit.

Speaker 7 (16:27):
The thing is and it's saying has always been what
are you putting on film?

Speaker 6 (16:35):
And remember now we still have a connection to Dan Quinn.

Speaker 7 (16:41):
And he may not be hyping on every guy that
he has in Washington, and they have a few guys,
you know, hypothetically.

Speaker 6 (16:50):
On one year.

Speaker 7 (16:51):
So this thing ain't gonna you you're gonna sign Parsons
and he's gonna get paid. So all that was you're
gonna trade him and all that right there, forget that.
He gonna keep his podcast and he gonna get paid.

Speaker 6 (17:10):
Now you've got to figure out.

Speaker 7 (17:13):
Who is that second and third guy, because if we
let Osa and Ghoston and this guy go, you virtually
finished start over on the defensive line. We cannot start
over on the defensive line. So uh, I'm I wish
to voice the reason with him to stop it so

(17:34):
he could talk about this game. But I ain't talking
about this guy. Already told Chris, I ain't talking. I'm
talking about guys we may eventually lose. Jordan Lewis is
a real somebody gonna pay this old man somebody, I'm serious.
So you don't think about gonna pay this own now?

Speaker 3 (17:52):
Yeah, yeah, he still got some dog left there.

Speaker 7 (17:54):
Yeah, man, you know I always you know me, I
sit right here for the years we've been on this show.
If Jordan Lewis just ever just do his job, he
is a bad man. Will Jordan go wrong? At is
when he go to looking in that backfield saying I
see this, Then all sudden we see somebody running by
you as long as.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
He focused on what he needed to do. Man, Jordan
is he is real?

Speaker 6 (18:18):
Man, he is real.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
All right, Let's take a real break when we come back.
More football talking.

Speaker 7 (18:25):
Talking about Crystal baby boy. You know he little under
the weather, all right, you gotta get him some love.

We were talking about free agents and who's gonna be
gone and who might be here.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
You think you think you think they're gonna get the deal?

Speaker 7 (21:39):
Don't with Michael, right, Yeah, Michael, Michael done, Man, Michael,
Michael already done.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
You think he's done?

Speaker 6 (21:44):
Yeah, he done. I mean they're gonna pay Michael.

Speaker 7 (21:48):
And then just like Jesse said, by him getting injured early.

Speaker 6 (21:53):
Now he's strong. I heard I heard on.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
One of the Michael's stronger.

Speaker 7 (21:57):
All the offseason work, know all the rest you got
it is true, and now he's back in shape. You
know me, I like to I like to damage control
that this this this team is done. I mean just
thinking now, we had a bunch of guys out, We
had guys playing with major injuries. Uh, they have sorted

(22:20):
through that, you know, because you're like, man, it took
eight games or ten games before they even started giving
the ball to to rico'donald.

Speaker 6 (22:29):
Yeah it did, and it looked it ugly.

Speaker 7 (22:32):
Yeah, ceedee lamb ain't killing it like it was. Yeah,
it's looking ugly. Ferguson went out. Yeah, Schoolmaker got some run.
The other kid from MAZI is starting to, you know,
play a little bit more consistent.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
Everybody seemed to be rolling in the right way.

Speaker 7 (22:52):
We've had the right games to give them enough momentum
and enough company because that's all players lack of. Now,
donna get me wrong. What's coming next week is real.
What's coming next week is real. When we get into
your I tell people it's I'm planning to get through

(23:14):
the season and have good tape and then it's I'm
playing to get in these playoffs and get positioned. We
gonna have to come out with a different amount of
force and we're gonna have to play like I felt
we should have played against the uh Cincinnati Bengals, no mistakes.

Speaker 6 (23:34):
We're not that team.

Speaker 7 (23:36):
When you're not good, like I've been on a team
like that before, where you're not good, you can't have penalties,
especially silly silly penalties. So uh, it's it's gonna be fun, y'all.
That's just that's just strap in. It's gonna be It's
you know, it's like being over thirty thirty forty thousand
feet and in the in the wind, shears and all

(23:58):
that is shaking up there, and the man ain't gonna say, hey,
fasten up, fastening, and we're gonna go up just to
live a higher to get around this. But we can't
go no higher. Were playing at peak performance, baby, we're
the top idea. We ended up crop dust with with cook.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (24:17):
We can't go no higher.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
We just gotta play smarter, flying with your parachute on my.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
Brother, smarter. Don't you think this is the play smarter?

Speaker 3 (24:25):
I hope So why would you ask that question. You're
not gonna baby does like that?

Speaker 6 (24:31):
Why would you ask that question? Do you think they
can play smarter?

Speaker 5 (24:34):
For sure?

Speaker 3 (24:36):
How can they play smarter?

Speaker 9 (24:37):
Kirk?

Speaker 5 (24:38):
Just get rid of some of these dumb penalties?

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Is what is the problem with the penalties?

Speaker 6 (24:43):
Like?

Speaker 3 (24:45):
What is that?

Speaker 7 (24:46):
I mean, Chris, come on, we want to hear you
back there, Chris, what is the problem with the penalties?

Speaker 3 (24:51):
You got the inside scoop, you got big scoop.

Speaker 6 (24:53):
You don't share with us, I mean a.

Speaker 9 (24:55):
Big scoop, Parcels said, he used to not he doesn't
penalties right, So it's on the playtimes, it's on the player.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
I think it's just because they got a bunch of
young guys. Yeah, they're just guys.

Speaker 6 (25:09):
Is not as good.

Speaker 9 (25:11):
I think you're right about that. When you're not as good,
you tend to hold more. You tend to like, don't
stick with the form. I mean, if you think about it,
like Guyton, what's his problem? I mean, you know he's
a catcher, right, catches the inside rush exactly. He catches
blocks is up the inside rush.

Speaker 6 (25:28):
That's what he does.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
And everybody in the league is gonna know that. Yes,
and that's what they do.

Speaker 7 (25:33):
And when the game gets deeper and deeper into the game,
you know they'll rush outside all day, you know, to
around about the middle of that third quarter, you know,
when he's relaxed and comfortable and they just take off inside.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
To explain it to people.

Speaker 9 (25:48):
When you catch a block, and they explain how how
offensive lineman catch block?

Speaker 7 (25:53):
Well, as a passer you catch blocks, You're supposed to jam,
You're supposed to everything you do the nearest point, like
you rushing me, come at me a little bit, boom,
that's your my nearest point. I'm gonna hit you with that,
but with this hand, because you coming this way, so
I'm gonna hit you with that nearest point. If I
can get you with this hand, I really got you,
because now you're gonna keep me lined up with you.

(26:15):
But if you get into me, all of a sudden
you came and I'm catching you out here.

Speaker 6 (26:20):
Now you're in my chest.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Looks like he's giving a hug.

Speaker 7 (26:23):
When you when you catching players, that can be a
tremendous because now you gotta either let him run you
over then get to the quarterba.

Speaker 6 (26:33):
You gotta hang on and hold it.

Speaker 9 (26:34):
Yeah, and they'll see it when they're catching him and
he'll grab him on the shoulder.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
On the outside where and then the run.

Speaker 7 (26:43):
It's basically the same thing where you done grab somebody
from the outside and and you trying to run with
them and they jerk back and they see all that
jersey in your hand, you know, because they stretch, you know,
the jersey stretching. Now you're done.

Speaker 5 (26:57):
So two questions and one were you surprised as to
see Guidon come in yesterday because assumption was he might
have been banged up. And two talked earlier about now
you want to see these young guys playing, shouldn't we
just be riding him and letting him get that experience.

Speaker 7 (27:10):
No, because it comes a point where you got you
got to pay for your sins and a doga, And
y'all know, I've been killing this kid a doga. He's
not a kid, he's he's a veteran guy, but to
me his kid. But I've been killing this guy. But
he's giving you a better chance to have success.

Speaker 6 (27:32):
You can't.

Speaker 7 (27:33):
It comes a point like me and Jesse was going
back and forth with the great player Zach Martin, it
comes a point where you got to.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
Say Okay, I can't preach to my.

Speaker 7 (27:43):
Team that we're trying to put the best guys out
here to win. And now we've had some success winning,
not with guiding, but with a doga with are some
riches with TJ. Bass, with the other kids, sixty seven

(28:04):
of them.

Speaker 6 (28:06):
Brock Cobbin. So now these guys are playing.

Speaker 7 (28:09):
So now when you stand up in front of the
team and say, hey man, best man gonna play, do
you say, hey guydon you at the left?

Speaker 6 (28:20):
Now you saw use incredibility.

Speaker 7 (28:22):
Even though we know he's the first round pick, even
though we know he's gonna get it. This guy's is
performed better. Our running game has been tremendous, you know,
And players don't get to say, but it's against the
Carolina You don't get to say that. Now we get
to say that, but they don't get to say that.
It's like, so now he is a backup. Here's a

(28:44):
backup who's fighting for his life.

Speaker 6 (28:48):
Still.

Speaker 7 (28:50):
I've always felt this about Stell and I try to
tell anybody that listen, if you run enough in the first.

Speaker 6 (28:57):
Half, still can get through a game.

Speaker 7 (29:00):
Now he's still gonna give a pass and play here
and there you just hoping it ain't at a critical time,
but if you run enough still confidence grows. He's a
play action pass tackle. That means you gotta run enough
to keep his confidence up. But now if you just
coming out trying to throw that thing thirty five times,
specially in the first half, and they get him a

(29:21):
couple of times, you just see his confidence since dwindle.
So they've been giving him enough. So now we're not
even hit a lot of stel Now. Granted, I'm gonna
keep saying it. We ain't played the greatest of guys
that you know, we're about past the great great pass rushers,
but he's getting confidence. I don't know whether this to
take him into next year, how this thing will look

(29:42):
next year. But now, if nothing else, if nothing else,
we know we got depth. If nothing else, we know
we have depth on both offense and defensive lines. Now
it goes back to what I said earlier, who are
you willing to keep?

Speaker 6 (30:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (30:05):
I also got some got somewhat some national pub from
Greg Olsen during the game. So it's one of the
one of the best d tackles.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
Yeah, he said that it surprised me a little bit
and says a great year. But it's good to hear
that from the national guy.

Speaker 6 (30:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (30:19):
The thing about the pete what is it? The p
f L yeahs, I ain't good.

Speaker 6 (30:26):
We let us y'all know, I'm not wrong.

Speaker 5 (30:29):
Ff gave us some one of the highest grades, you know,
the highest on the team.

Speaker 7 (30:32):
This well, he ain't had no other choice, they heard
what Uh. It took him a while to adjust. Zim
is the type of coach that's gonna keep warning your
best you know, I know you have to convey it
a different way now, I know. He you know, back

(30:54):
in the day, it's just like you, son of a
you need to pick that work with me. That worked,
you know with me, because you know that's just who cared,
coach cussin, who cares?

Speaker 6 (31:04):
But now that that's kind of a thing.

Speaker 7 (31:06):
You can't do that to kids, or some kids can't
accept it as well. So in his own little way,
he's found out little things. And Brady said something on
his show that show enough hit home with me is
matchups where the might I used to be like, I
hope Parsons don't line up on the right tackle of Philly,

(31:30):
you know, sixty five and then he'll line up for
sixty five plays trying to beat Why would you go
over there and beat this guy on the left side that.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
You're a man.

Speaker 7 (31:40):
Yeah, yeah, I'm a man. I'm i'ma beat it old brother.
Go over here and beat this to him man too.
But they'll finding those matchups. And uh and Brod has
brought up a blitz from the first half where they
came from the left.

Speaker 6 (31:55):
They took it over to the right and got home.

Speaker 7 (31:57):
And so I like that. You know, I'm saying to myself,
cool stuff. Rotis you know, Uh, the kid I don't
want to call him. We always called him first and last.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
Name, Marathile.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
Yeah, him, him and Kendricks man, Yeah you need to
they So marifoul is still under the rookie right, so
you got him and then kendricks Was he a one
year deal? Yes, yeah, you probably want to try to
figure out a way to keep him right.

Speaker 5 (32:24):
Because they've been definite impact.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
Yeah, leadership, it's and they're fun to watch.

Speaker 6 (32:30):
Man.

Speaker 5 (32:30):
There.

Speaker 7 (32:31):
You know, when your defensive line is doing their job.
I linebackers all a fourth. It is designed. It is
designed for the linebackers, and every defense is if you're
down lineman or doing their job halfway doing their job
giving your guys a chance, they're gonna show up, brother,

(32:54):
and uh, they gonna show up. And like you know,
a lot of people talking about the running back that
was the pick for the young men, our number thirty five.
But this kid is doing okay. This kid is doing okay. Well,
I know we have depth. Now you can go out
and draft and I know we're not gonna get on
free agency and we'll go out and draft some more

(33:15):
guys and hopefully we'll do what we need to do.

by Jigsaw, the proud dating partner of the Dallas cow Boys.
All right, before we get into more Carolina Dallas football talk, Nate,
we were talking in the break.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
We're talking about Dion a little bit.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
Asked Nate if he had talked to d On since
Travis Hunter won the Heisman over the weekend, and he
said no, And then he started into a story and
he goes, y'all want me to tell you on the air.
We're like, absolutely, we love Nate stories on the air,
especially when it has to do with either.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
Charles or Dion. They're yetually very good.

Speaker 7 (36:14):
So so rapping about players not being good enough and
that the depth of the Cowboys, and I always listened
to coach Johnson, coach Swisson.

Speaker 6 (36:23):
They would always say.

Speaker 7 (36:24):
We get better players who can play on better better
athletes with a you know, can think above their shoulders.
You'll get less penalties. And so I talked to Dion
after his first year and they beat TCU, and I
was like, man, y'all.

Speaker 6 (36:40):
Was on your way.

Speaker 7 (36:41):
Then he said yeah, but I realized these guys when
they won, mature enough for the game.

Speaker 6 (36:46):
Not they meaning they was not I could handle the
Nebraskas of the world, or or there.

Speaker 7 (36:55):
The Miamis or the Bammas of the world, because they
won't bred that way. They wasn't built that way, they
went't mentally physically ready that way.

Speaker 6 (37:02):
And so they guys asked, me, Okay, yeah, we hear you. Well,
did you have you talked about Travis?

Speaker 7 (37:07):
I said no, I talked to him last week, But
I tell you something that he's trying to put together
after this season and I don't know if Travis I
have time. Is that he got one of these big old,
big old Mac trucks that the office line for the
Cowboys side.

Speaker 6 (37:21):
He big old look like you know Diesel Mac trucks.
Well he got.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
One, oh like a like a big F three fifty.

Speaker 6 (37:28):
Yeah, big f three. I mean it's huge up off
the ground. And he said, man, what me and you
gonna do?

Speaker 7 (37:33):
And and Honor if they have time now, because then
you know, Haunter was gonna get every ward known to man. Uh,
we're gonna we was gonna go fishing. He Honor loves fishing.
That's Dion's second passion to to to dealing with football
is fishing.

Speaker 6 (37:50):
So he got two lakes. He even got one he
got too.

Speaker 7 (37:53):
You don't fish, and I don't fish, but I'll be
driving a big Mac truck. And because I like to drive,
so me and him and if it works, we'll be
at different places in different states.

Speaker 6 (38:05):
You know, doing fish the fishing. Try drive. We'll drive.

Speaker 4 (38:11):
Being at seven eleven and you just get some gas
and Nate just pile out and going to the roller
grill and grabbing some tiketos.

Speaker 7 (38:22):
Yeah, so that you know it may happen and it
may not because uh, well they talk, so it would
be what you play that Chris big Golf.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Okay, yeah, well we'll get a bunch of them from
Dumb and Dumber.

Speaker 5 (38:38):
Yeah you got out out on the boat with them
and just hang out.

Speaker 6 (38:40):
Oh yeah, yeah, because I'll be talking about both of them.

Speaker 7 (38:43):
I mean because if they don't be catching no fish,
I'll be dogging them.

Speaker 3 (38:46):
Yo, you'll actually go I don't thought you didn't get
in boats.

Speaker 7 (38:48):
I do own lakes. I don't get in oceans. We
he didn't say ocean. If you just said ocean, I
feel like you'd been going by yourself.

Speaker 6 (38:55):
I ain't getting on no ocean. I'm getting on.

Speaker 4 (38:57):
That lake really, and that what's crazy is like the
boats in an ocean are like a lot more durable
and like less like them.

Speaker 7 (39:05):
A ship there much ship, a ship one hundred yard
ship ain't gonna fit in.

Speaker 4 (39:11):
But you'll go out on the bass boat in a
lake where you can't even see land.

Speaker 6 (39:16):
I will see land. I will see land. Yeah, I
will see land.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
Fish.

Speaker 5 (39:21):
I mean half that bay is four foot deep or
something five foot yeah, shadow, he ain't.

Speaker 6 (39:26):
Going huh, bro y'all do what y'all do. I'm gonna
do it.

Speaker 7 (39:29):
That'll be a fun trip, yeah, you know. Uh so
I just uh you know, he done brought it up twice.

Speaker 6 (39:38):
Because I'm like, when you're coming on, what we're gonna
do this summer?

Speaker 7 (39:40):
Hey, you know, trying to set up the days where
I can hang out with him two or three days.
I like to go over his house two or three days,
just one day, you know, because it takes me at
least a day to get the better on the jokes.
He gonna get me because he gonna get me with
every fat joke as soon as I walk through the door.
But after after about the day, I started catching up

(40:01):
with him because I was like, you're gonna say it
that yesterday? It ain't gonna yeah, So I ain't gonna
know rat jokes and calls and all of that.

Speaker 5 (40:08):
He's got a big reality show coming out.

Speaker 6 (40:12):
Yes he does.

Speaker 7 (40:13):
So I'm like, how is he gonna have all this time?
It's just and plus I think his contract coming up.
Mm hmmm, So him and Parkson is gonna be going
at it.

Speaker 6 (40:24):
How did y'all?

Speaker 3 (40:25):
Were y'all really good? Were y'all tight?

Speaker 4 (40:27):
When he played here? Did y'all become better friends. How
did y'all get to be buddy? I know we know
the story with Charles.

Speaker 7 (40:33):
See when he got here, I knew of Dion and
we was at the Pro Bowl together and him and
Rod Woodson and I shouldn't be telling the story.

Speaker 6 (40:46):
They were. They was on the last leg to see
who the NFC at the a f C was gonna win.

Speaker 7 (40:52):
And I, being a guy that I was so just
so brother Woodson down, he ain't gonna be able to
handle with d Dion from Florida. I just went off
and because man, what's some cool too? But after he
kind of lost, Oh, we're gonna be cool after and
Dion beat him and I went crazy out.

Speaker 6 (41:13):
And so that first started. Man Dion.

Speaker 7 (41:15):
Then he was with the forty nine ers and wanted
to come to us. Jerry was enticing to him to
come to us, and uh and Mike said.

Speaker 6 (41:25):
Man, Dion, ready for you?

Speaker 7 (41:26):
Dion wanted to see he hear you the big clown
on the team Deon Can. And so when we hooked
up and he got to the Cowboys, we just ever since.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
Y'all y'all got the same sense of humor.

Speaker 7 (41:38):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, he can get, he can get
rough sometime. He'll never cuss, you know, but he can
say some ugly things.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
Did he not cuss back when he played? Really I did?

Speaker 7 (41:49):
I did to do a show for radio station, and uh,
they used to call me big popper, and you know,
I would get up and so I would just do
like little bits like yeah, man, I had deon.

Speaker 6 (42:02):
I had it.

Speaker 7 (42:03):
I was I was cracking on because everybody know I
was cracking on for I was cracking on.

Speaker 6 (42:07):
Dion so bad.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
So he cussed And why did I say that?

Speaker 7 (42:12):
When I got back to the studio that morning, when
I came in from the doing the radio show.

Speaker 6 (42:18):
Dion was on me, Man, do you know I don't cuss?

Speaker 3 (42:22):
Why would you say that? I mean, he was serious.
First I thought he was joking. I'm serious, man, Why
would you do that?

Speaker 8 (42:27):
Man?

Speaker 3 (42:28):
People know I don't cuss, big fellow.

Speaker 5 (42:30):
Why you do that?

Speaker 11 (42:31):
You know? Nate?

Speaker 7 (42:32):
Why when he called me Nate, I knew he was like, oh,
this dude serious, and so all week long, man, you
better get this raight, you better get so.

Speaker 3 (42:41):
The first thing I did, I said, hell o, y'all,
let me get this straight.

Speaker 6 (42:45):
Dion did not cut.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (42:49):
But I ain't think you would be listening. Thank you,
big fella. You know I don't cut.

Speaker 10 (42:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (42:52):
Why is he so passionate about not custom? Is it
a role model thing or just is not?

Speaker 7 (42:57):
You know, he a Christians, so and that was one
of his things, even when he wasn't a Christian. You know,
he just never found it cool to cuss. You know,
like some people like you don't have a vocabulary. If
you got to sit up and call people mfs and
Sonoma's and you know, a's and all this, you don't
have a vocabulary and mine is limited.

Speaker 3 (43:18):
I'll never forget.

Speaker 4 (43:19):
Well he went, I think it was during the off season,
it was probably ninety two, ninety three maybe.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
And he did a little tour with his must.

Speaker 4 (43:29):
Be the Money, yeah yeah, And he came to a
club in Monroe, Louisiana, and it was like a big deal.
It was a small club and I was just like,
I can't believe the coming to Monro, Man.

Speaker 3 (43:42):
It was like a big deal. You go, good show.
No I didn't go. Why you didn't go?

Speaker 6 (43:48):
I tell you it must have been the money.

Speaker 3 (43:50):
Tell you, I tell you, I'm gonna tell you.

Speaker 7 (43:52):
I got it.

Speaker 6 (43:53):
One time back in the old placed.

Speaker 7 (43:55):
Either one of y'all back at the old place, back
at Velans, of course, and you know we could turn
to speak on from in bucket of office in the
equipment room, and it go all over the whole building, right,
So periodically one of us would get a good prank
going on somebody we would let the whole building though.

Speaker 6 (44:12):
So Dean was getting to better me. I said, yeah,
you sold out for the money.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
It must be the money.

This is Gavin Newsom

I’m Gavin Newsom. And, it’s time to have a conversation. It’s time to have honest discussions with people that agree AND disagree with us. It's time to answer the hard questions and be open to criticism, and debate without demeaning or dehumanizing one other. I will be doing just that on my new podcast – inviting people on who I deeply disagree with to talk about the most pressing issues of the day and inviting listeners from around the country to join the conversation. THIS is Gavin Newsom.
