This week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Woolly Bear Books to dive into what it really takes to own and run an independent bookstore. Mike Ploetz has been passionate about reading since childhood, always keeping books close to his heart. After high school, he began working at the beloved Pittsburgh shop Kards Unlimited, where he developed a deep appreciation for the book business. His journey eventually took him to New York City, where he worked for a major publisher and climbed the ranks. But after years in the industry, Mike felt the pull of a lifelong dream—opening his own bookstore. That dream became a reality with Woolly Bear Books & Gifts.
