Speaker 1 (01:37):
We are worldwide.
Yeah, I know, forty countries.
Is it 40?
Forty, forty countries, allright.
So, oh, you know what?
When you hit 41, that's whenyou made it.
Yeah, I think I left the mostimportant piece of paper because
I just ripped it off of thenews wire.

(01:58):
I just ripped it off of thenews wire and now I can't find
it.

between Austria and Germany.
Yeah to Austria.
Yeah, yodel, Yodel.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Have you ever yodeled ?
Don't answer that no, because Iknow where that would go.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
I've eaten a yodel, I bet.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Well, I can't find my sheet of paper.

Speaker 5 (02:56):

I thought that I had.
I know that.
I put it in my briefcase and.
I'll probably find it at theend of the show.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Mike, run to the studio and pick up this piece of
paper.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Be right back.
Oh, here it is.
Usually Don's got a printerhandy to find it.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
I found it.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Oh, is this the UAW stuff?

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Yes, I'm pleased with the UAW story because big news
from yesterday.
I happened to watch theannouncement from Sean Fain not
a big fan, uaw President SeanFain bolstered by a historic
show of support by US PresidentJoe Biden.
Your president ramped uppressure on the Detroit three
last week as frustrations onboth sides of the bargaining

(03:39):
table spilled into view.
Amid the ongoing strike, theunion sent 7,000 more workers in
Michigan and Illinois on apicket lines Friday.
After progress stalled withFord Motor Company and no
significant headway was madewith General Motors, a
last-minute offer by Stellantis, which is Chrysler, prompted

(03:59):
Fain to call off a new walkoutagainst that company.
Okay, tit for tat.
The union last week expanded thestrike to include Ford's
Explorer factory in Chicago anda GM crossover plant near
Lansing, michigan.
The addition brought the numberof workers on strike to about
25,000, or 17% of UAW membershipat the automakers.

(04:23):
Although Fain suggested thatFord and the union had made
progress on wages and benefits,he later said they remained far
apart on core economic proposals, including retirement benefits
and job security.
And it's not over with.
And it's not going to be overwith for a while.
And I've got more stories aboutthe folks that are the

(04:46):
ancillary support people thatsupply the manufacturers the
buttons, the knobs.
It's not just about the and whoand ancillary and salarie.
What are you saying?

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Nothing, it's just a bad joke yeah apparently because
I didn't get it.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
So anyway, the Big deal now is the fact that all of
the auto makers, the autoworkers union, are saying that
the auto manufacturers have setthe bar by paying executives a
lot of money, somewhere in the$20 million a year range and

(05:33):
GM's gonna put a new CEO in.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Her name is Helen Waite and they're gonna tell the
UAW.
If they don't like it they cango to Helen Waite.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
See, you didn't know.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
I practiced these tips.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
You didn't know, you were tuned into a car show.
But now we've got comedy orattempted comedy and other fine
things that we're going to dealwith.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
So while these boys are all over here gathering, All
three of the CEOs make over $20million a year.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
That's correct, they do.
So they've kind of set the barand really set themselves up for
a huge strike.
Wait a minute.
You're making over $20 milliona year and here I am making $30
an hour $38 an hour Whatever, and they want a 40% raise.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Well, at that rate, somebody's gonna have to take a
little cut and pay, don't youthink?

Speaker 3 (06:28):
If they pass that, I would think so, because it's
going to have a serious impacton the price of cars.
Yeah, you know, the increase ofthe cost of labor by 40% is
going to have a major impact onthe price of cars.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yeah, and they're not going to sell cars.
So for those automakers thatare part of the UAW, Well, and
it's already impacting the partsbusiness.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Well you know, because what I do for a
full-time job, talking to abunch of dealerships and come to
find out they all got a letterlast Friday from GM parts and
Stellantis parts saying theyhave received their last parts
shipment until the strike's overbecause all the parts

(07:15):
facilities are UAW employees sothey're not packing stuff up and
shipping it out right now.
So if you've got a car in theshop waiting on GM parts, you're
going to be waiting a long time.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Now, if I've got the inkling to buy a new car, hmm,
am I going to buy a car that ismaybe not having parts available
for it if it breaks down, or amI going to buy a car that's not
involved in the UAW?

Speaker 3 (07:45):
But I can do all of that.
That's the gamble both UAW andthe Big Three are playing is
that they're still going to haveloyal customers after the
strike's over.
Because what's going to happenand they've seen it happen in
the past is people are going togo shop other brands, and when
they shop other brands be itToyota, honda, nissan or

(08:09):
whoever- they may never comeback.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
That's right, and the fact that there are a lot of
cars manufactured in Mexico.
I don't think that they're partof the UAW Lots of Fords are
manufactured in Mexico and lotsof GM's.
Are they part of the UAW downthere?
No, no, no.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
All of the four-wheel drive utilities Suburbans,
escalades, tahos, yukon's thefour-wheel drives are built in
Salau in Mexico, and then lotsof other stuff.
You know, fords got a bunch ofplants in Mexico as well, so all
of that stuff is still inproduction.
But that's why the UAW is doingthese targeted strikes, because

(08:48):
some of the plants in theUnited States ship parts to
Mexico to be assembled, forthose vehicles to be shipped
back into the United States.
So the UAW knows what parts aregoing where and how to impact
the profit of the Big Three.
But let's see, I want tonegatively impact the profit of
the Big Three.

(09:08):
Who pay my employee's salaries?
There's something wrong in thatequation, but that's what it's
all about.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
I really don't see any end to this in the near
future.
I don't see a good end to thisat all.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
I really don't see a good end to this at all.
You know, because the cost oflabor is a majority part of the
cost of building a vehicle.
And then the other thing and wetalked about it last week with
the professor from NorthCarolina State is the impact
it's going to have on you calledit the ancillary, the Tier II

(09:46):
and Tier III and primarily theTier III suppliers.
They build that one littlewidget that gets shipped to
another supplier that builds thebig piece.
Well, if that guy that buildsthat one little widget the knob
on the radio.
Yeah, if he goes out of business, there's no more knobs on the
radio Right.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
And you can't ship the car without a knob on the
radio Right.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
So we'll see how long-term that impact is.
You know, the strike back in2009 did that as well, as well
as the economic collapse of 2009.
So, yeah, it's going to have ahuge negative impact.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
You're of that age that I could see.
Well, you know, mom and dad hada Honda Accord so we kind of we
goose that up and we had thefour door Accord that made a lot
of noise with that garbage canexhaust system on it.
Oh yeah, and you're not that.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
No, no, I'm a little before that generation, I think,
are you?

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Yeah, we had a Accord it would be tubbed out with an
LS in it.
Said that again, your Accordwould be tubbed out with an.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
LS in it 100%.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
Yeah, exactly so tell me how long have you had this
car?
Where'd you get it from?

Speaker 2 (10:56):
So I was looking for a long time because I wanted the
early 60s model, you know theshoe box.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
The Chevy II.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Yeah, and the 66, 67 was such a popular model and it
still is a popular model and Ikind of wanted something that
wasn't so popular and so Ilooked for probably about a year
and a half, really Drove toDallas and just kind of my price
range, I just see nothing butrust, bucket junk there's a
bunch of that out there and so Iwaited off for about another

(11:26):
year and actually of all things,it's kind of seemed like it's
fallen.
In the past I found this caroff a Craigslist Craigslist,
craigslist.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
How long ago was that ?

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Three years ago.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
So I've owned this car just over three years now.
Just started putting typesearches and I found it out of
North Carolina.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Oh wow, that's a long haul, yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
And actually I bought this vehicle sight unseen.
I popped up in the morning.
I was sitting there just doingmy normal routine, scrolling
through Craigslist andMarketplace, all the car sites,
and I came across this and atthe bottom it kind of tells you
how long the listing's been onand it looked like he posted

(12:09):
around midnight and this was sixin the morning.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
So I said well, there's an opportunity here Sure
.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
So I jumped on and sent him a message.
He had a cell phone on thereand we exchanged numbers or text
message back and forth and sentme a ton of videos and about a
week and a half later, goingback and forth, it was on a box
truck heading this way.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Nice.
Oh, wow, yeah, how did you did?
He have the car a long time.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
He built it.
He started, I think, thebuilding 13.
And basically it was prettymuch built out.
The way it sits now.
I've kind of done a fewmodifications to it, changed
some things interior wheelsbreaking stuff like that that he
needed a little bit moreupgrade or put my touch to it.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
So you said that it's got an LS in it.
Yes, sir, what LS.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
It's the LS1.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
And it's a.
It's my Corvette motor.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Got a stroker kit in it and Well, you beat me there.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
It's a Power adders no power adders.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Not yet, at least.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
So it's a what transmission?

Speaker 2 (13:12):
It's the Turbo 350.
Ok or no, I'm sorry I got 700R4in that, the Turbo's in the
other one, 700r4 in that and itputs about I think about 550.
We had it dynoed at Nice soit's got a good set of heads on
it and the whole car iscompletely built frame up

(13:34):
four-link in the back.
Really 12-volt rear 373 gear,Nice build.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Nice build.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
And I was heavy on the electronic side of LS and
actually when I got this it hada carburetor on it, so it kind
of caught my eye.
I said, ok, well, I got tostart learning about this a
little bit more.
And the car was a little tricky.
It had a Holley 750 in it andI've got a friend over in
Mississippi that he's a nova guyand he's like man.
We got to put fuel injection onit.

(14:03):
So about a year and a half weput the Holley sniper on it and
haven't even looked back.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
So that LS1 originally came with a fuel
injection system on it.
That is correct, and they tookit off and went with a
carburetor.
Yeah, exactly Weird.
Why would you do that?

Speaker 2 (14:18):
I don't know.
I guess maybe a little specialtouch, something different.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Well, they also make kits to put a distributor on
them as well, which I alwaysthought was odd.
Why would you go backwards inthe technology to drop the FI or
to drop the distributorlessignition systems?
But some people do, becausethey want that uniqueness
Absolutely.
Pop the hood and people look atit and go huh.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
How's that thing run?
You know, they see the coilpacks on top and go there's a
carburetor on it.
Well, let me think about this.
This doesn't make sense to me.
Yeah, but no, I mean thatHolley man, you turn the key,
prime it and man, she fires upevery time.
You know, instead of pumpingthat gas with that Holley 750 in
there wanting to die and Pumpit twice.

(15:02):
Set the troke and.
Exactly.
Hope it lights Haven't lookedback, but I mean, the car is
enjoyable.
I drive it as much as I can.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Did you drive it down here?
Yes, sir, yeah, yeah, where doyou live?

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Santa Fe Texas.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
Santa Fe.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Oh, you're not too far away.
No, not far, and I spentprobably about four or five
hours yesterday cleaning it upand I was worried about the
chance of rain.
And I guess on the way herethere was a storm that came
through Santa Fe and the roadswere just completely wet for
about 10 miles Of course theywere, you know so.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
And then you worked another hour here trying to get
all that cleaned up Exactly Beenthere, done that brother.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
That's why I got here early, yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
So have you taken it to other shows as well?

Speaker 2 (15:40):
I have taken it to some other small local shows.
I'm actually I'm lookingforward to putting it into
Aldorama this year.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
I've got some friends that have done it in the past
and I just I didn't have thetime last year to do it and I
just, for the first time, wentup there just to experience it
and see what it was all about.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
So you'd never been before.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
I'd never been but to Aldorama.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Really.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Good experience yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
It's very good experience.
It's pretty nice.
You know, I hear there's a fewheadaches, you know getting cars
in and out, you know kind of asa cluster, but that's, you know
, when you're trying to put youknow, 400, 500 cars inside a
building.
What do you expect?

Speaker 3 (16:15):
And then you kind of get the clubs that all want to
come in together, so they allpark together as well.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Exactly so, but I'm looking forward to it, a little
piece of advice is make surethat you don't try to get in
with more than a quarter of atank of gas, because the fire
marshal will go and good one.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Then you've got to go drain it.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Either drain it or drive it around.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
Well, that's a good note.
No one's told me that.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
So well, there you go .
I appreciate that, yes.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
Be better off if you have a locking gas cap as well.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
Oh, OK, yeah just.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
And a way to quick disconnect your battery.
And the dumbest thing is theywant the positive cable
disconnected, not the negativecable.
Technically, technicians alwaysgo in negative cable first, but
in honorama they want thepositive cable disconnected and
they'll give you a little bagged, kind of like a crown royal bag

(17:10):
, to put over the positivebattery cable.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
OK.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
And that way when they walk by they'll see, and
once you get set up in yourspace you'll go through a tech
coming in and then, once you getset up in your space, they're
going to come by and check tomake sure that the battery is
properly disconnected.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Hey, be sure to start by and say hello to us.
We'll be up there in the middleas we are every year, according
to Mr Mars.
All right, Mr Mars.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
Yes sir, we got the contract back the other day.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
We're good, we're looking good, good, good.
Well, there's a first.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
We're looking good, you know what?
Let's start setting up now.
Yeah, that's it, we're going todo that, all right.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
Well, hey, thanks for stopping by, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
Good luck to you today.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Hope you walk away with a big trophy.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
I hope so.
Thanks, guys, thank you All.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
Right time now for the events calendar, not the
cruising calendar, the eventscalendar, and speaking of which,
I think that you'll have inthere the Autorama, because you
realize that this is October 1.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
Autorama Thanksgiving weekend.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
It is every year at the George R Brown Convention
Center and we'll be there liveon Saturday.
Probably be there Thursday.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
A little bit.
Thursday and Thursday.
It'll be there Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
That's right, we're in for thewhole thing.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Come by and see us and you know, other stuff going
on is the all British car showat the Butler House off of
Gosling Road.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
They're going to push the cars in.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
They're going to tow them out.
Ha ha, ha ha.
But if you stay long enough, you can sit there and you can
listen to the cars rust.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
There's a listen to them rust.
There's a sponsor that we'llnever have no we won't Maybe the
records though.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
The 38th annual Wolf Creek car and truck and bike
show at Wolf Creek Park in ColdSpring, the fourth annual
Memorial Benefit Taps and TurboCar Show at no Label Brewing in
Katie, and that's going to be onNovember 4.
Cruise in Sillsby is tonight aswell in Kirby Memorial Stadium

(19:08):
in Sillsby, texas, and then Mars, when he leaves here he's going
to go to the Nederland Avenuein Texas downtown cruise and
show off the truck.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Are you Mars?
Ok, yes, sir, I'll bet youyou're not the Northside.
Mustang.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Club who they always tune into the show and we have
them on with some frequency.
They're having their fall opencar show November 4 at Bull
Salas Park in New Cane Texas.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Bull.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
Salas Bull B-U-L-L-S-A-L-L-A-S Park in New
Cane, texas, ok.
And then the 17th annual Heroesand Hot Rods Veterans Day
Weekend in downtown Bastrop, held by the Bastrop Area
Cruisers.
Well thank you, sir.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
You know, just watching you read that out of
the corner of my eye I see thisgreat big, humongous
orange-yellow crane over thereand I'm thinking what in the
world could they be doing?
This is an area where a lot ofboats are docked.
Are they dredging one out of?

Speaker 3 (20:12):
there.
Do you think Possibly yeah itcould be.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Anyway, we're at the Topwater Grill today at Woody's
Waterfront Car Show at San Leon,Texas.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
At the end of San Leon, because you go any further
than this and you get wet.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Yeah, right on Galveston Bay.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
There's that All right, Mr Mars.
But what a beautiful day hasthe in-wheel time review of the
Infiniti QX60.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
Go, Mr Morris so this is the 2024 Infiniti QX60
Autograph all-wheel drive.
Now, this vehicle wasredesigned in 2022, so they kind
of cleaned it up and made a fewlittle updates to it for 2024.
There's still four trim levelsthe Pure, the Luxe, the Sensory
and the Autograph, which is theone that we have.
So we were riding in some realstyle here with the top of the

(21:00):
line.
This is a three-row mid-sizedluxury SUV.
It can be six or sevenpassengers.
Ours was a six passengerbecause we had the second row
captain's chairs.
And on the outside of it, ofcourse, you're going to find
that they've got the new radiantgrille emblem, got a lighting
package that includes theadaptive headlights, black roof
rails, got power folding, heatedside mirrors, a power lift gate

(21:22):
, got a panoramic sunroof andthe vehicle comes standard with
some 18-inch wheels, but we haveit to be rolling on the 20-inch
aluminum wheels.
They look really, really nice.
Going to the inside, you'relooking at the leather seating
surfaces with some ash wood trim.
It's really sharp-looking woodtrim there.
It's real wood.
First row has got power seating, got the heated, got massaging

(21:44):
on the first row.
Second row is heated because wedo have the captain's chairs in
there.
Up front we got a 12.3-inchcenter stack monitor and that's
where you're going to find allyour convenience controls, your
backup camera, all your warningsystems are all right there.
The driver has a 10.8-inchheads-up display, which is
really nice, really big.
You get a lot of information upthere.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Can you see the cars ahead of?

Speaker 4 (22:05):
you If you look over the top of the HUD.
Just checking.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Is it configurable though the driver's instrument
cluster?

Speaker 4 (22:12):
Some of it is yes, that's cool.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
I like that.
I think that's a great feature.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
And we also happen to be rolling with the Bose
17-speaker audio system withlots of USB ports and power
wireless charging for your cellphone.
Now, up under the hood we had a3.5-liter V6, 295 horsepower,
270 pound-feet of torque, backedby a nine-speed automatic
transmission.
Properly equipped, this vehiclewill tow 6,000 pounds.

(22:36):
Epa says you should be lookingfor 20 in the city, highway 25
combined, 22.
Now I drove this vehicle 461miles Pretty busy week.
I got 20.9 miles per gallonaverage for that 461 miles.
That's pretty good.
There are five drive modes soyou get a lot of selections
there that you could choose todrive it.
It's very easy to drive in thecity.

(22:58):
Even though it's athree-year-old vehicle, it's not
that big and the steering endit's very responsive and it's
very comfortable to drive out onthe highway.
You can sit there and cruise.
I can see you running this allthe way across Texas for about
20 hours.
Now the base QX60, you can getinto this vehicle for $50,485.
Now the base autograph is setin that $66,100.

(23:21):
And the MSRP on the vehicle wewere driving is $69,240.
You're looking for something tocompare it to?
You might look at an Acura MDXstarts at $49,850.
The Audi Q7 steps up to $55,930to start and then if you really
want to get out there, go tothe Mercedes-Benz GLE for
$62,650 to start.
But it runs right in there asone of those Mid-sized luxury

(23:45):
SUVs.
It's got plenty of room andplenty of power for the size of
the vehicle it is.
And that's my review of the2024 QX60.
Did you have it last?

Speaker 1 (23:55):
week.
Yes, yes, so you turned it onThursday.
Yes, I did.
What did you get?

Speaker 4 (24:00):
I got another Kia the Kona With the local.
Oh, the new Kona.
Yeah, with the black stripe onthe side of it.
Oh, yeah, yeah, it's growing onme.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
Kona Is it?
Yeah, kia's got some issues.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
Kind of like that tumor, Exactly right.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Do you have a tumor Tuma.
A tumor Tuma.
I think every Kia and Hyundaiknown demand is being recalled.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Only for a fire, and they're recalling them for a
fire because they've alreadyrecalled them for engines and
connecting rod failures.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
It's rather disappointing, actually, because
I have always been a fan of Kiaand Hyundai.
But three million cars beingrecalled, that's all of them.
It's a little, I'm just goingto say it's every car that
they've ever built, isn't it?

Speaker 4 (24:51):
Well, they were sold in this country.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
Holy Toledo.
And then on top of that they're10-year 100,000-mile warranty.
That's only eligible for theoriginal owner of the vehicle.
If you buy one used, you'rescrewed.
It's $560, which is whereeverybody else is.
So don't buy a used Kia orHyundai thinking you're going to
get a 100,000-mile powertrainwarranty.

Speaker 4 (25:15):
Because I know the EVs are carrying that same
100,000-mile.
But it's good to know that ifyou buy a used EV you don't got
that Right and that's notunusual.

Speaker 3 (25:27):
You've got to think 100,000-mile warranty when
they're recalling the enginesand recalling for fires and
engine failures.
It's expensive to the companythat sells them, so that's why
they cut that warranty.
And if you've got to thinkGeneral Motors, back in the
early 2000s, they had afive-year 100,000-mile

(25:48):
powertrain warranty on it forabout three years and then they
said, oops, that's too expensive, we're going to go back down to
price.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
People found out about that.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
Yeah $360.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Yeah, that's certainly not a good thing.
