Checking them in.
Yeah, You're killing me Smalls.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
So, how much?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
sleep.
Have you gotten Two hours?
Speaker 1 (01:04):
last night.
That's pretty good for the fastdouble After my phone call at
midnight.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Oh we didn't go to
bed until like 2.30 this morning
, got up at 5.
Yeehaw, me and Johnny McGarity,we stayed up late until we
emptied Di's chest.
We kind of ran it empty.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
So everybody's been
happy.
Oh it's been a good trip.
Good trip yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
We've got a few that
have had some mechanical
difficulties.
One from Missouri is going backon a trailer blew his
transmission up, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Well, we've seen your
posts.
They've got transmission repairplaces here.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
It was set up to
repair it or replace it last
night, but he wants to upgradeit, so he gonna you know, and
that's part of the hot rod, that's exactly that's what I was
just.
I was just talking to him andthat's what I said.
I said you're doing it right.
You're doing it right.
Yeah, you'll never be happy ifyou don't do it the way you want
and why didn't I do it shucks, you know exactly he already blew
up one 4l60.
He's like why do I want to putanother one of those in?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
there we saw a couple
that were pulled over for
whatever reasons, but then atthe next stop we saw them coming
in.
Yes, so nothing really major.
The transmission obviously ismajor.
That's a major.
It could have been a flat tireor maybe an overheating hose.
We had a.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Bel Air.
Not sure what happened.
They worked on it for fivehours on the side of the road
and ended up leaving it atAutoZone parking lot and he's
got a trailer coming and gettingit.
We think it's got probably somewater in the gas, picked up
some bad gas somewhere.
Well, rare but those things dohappen, it happens.
But it's a single-barrelcarburetor.
Nobody's going to have thatavailable, yeah, so that's kind
(02:34):
of the plan with that.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
You bet.
So how many are still on tour?
What's?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
the number.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
We're a little over
200.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
A little over 200.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
We started with three
correct 302.
302.
Okay, Very good.
Well, they'll probably bearound.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
They'll probably be
straggling in yes, yes, so you
know we just talked to yourbetter half.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
I can hear you all.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
You can hear us out
there, yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Well.
I don't want to keep youbecause I know that you, I have
summoned Elizabeth here at theSpindle.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
Tap.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Yeah, because this is
such a unique venue I knew you
guys would love it, but it is sooff the wall.
It's all about you and yourweirdness.
Who would know this is here?
Speaker 3 (03:19):
I found it, and 300
of his weirdest friends, so
where?
Speaker 2 (03:22):
is the owner here.
I haven't seen him yet.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
We haven't been here
long.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
You know that there's
three of them.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Right, right, yeah,
and I just found that out this
morning, did they?
Speaker 2 (03:32):
take you on the back.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
I did that a few
weeks ago.
It's pretty cool.
It is, it's very cool, and theybottle their own stuff and can
it?
Everything right here, which isreally cool for a small brewery
.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
It is Great beer too,
by the way, Really.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
I don't know, we
haven't had one yet.
Well, I hear.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
I really don't get to
partake in it.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
I think, you're in
trouble, you're in trouble.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
What they wrangled me
.
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
He was just passing
by.
We sat him down.
He can go now because we've gothis replacement All right.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
We love you.
Thank you, you get the hot seatnow.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Bobby Sparkman is
kind of in charge of all this?
Speaker 3 (04:07):
He is.
He's the man.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Bobby, I'll catch up
to you in a little bit.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
So our next guest is
from the Spindletap Brewery
people.
Her name is Elizabeth Valentine, and I said would you come and
be on with us?
Oh God, why not?
Were you scared?
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Hello.
You know we're in 50 countries.
Oh my gosh.
Around the world, Around theworld.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
I've been outside
parking cars.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Have you.
Yeah, this is on top of theduties from yesterday's party
that you had out here yes yes.
Does your husband know what youdo?
He does, yes, he does what youdo.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
He does, yes, he does
.
Has he ever?
Speaker 1 (04:52):
been out here at one
of these events.
Oh, absolutely.
Has he come to tay?
Why didn't he come today, ofall the days he's with the
little one?
How old is the little one?
She's six.
So elizabeth valentine um ishere, uh, and she kind of
represents I'm going to say thatrepresents the spindle tap
really my title is Marketing andEvents Manager, but with a
small company it's kind of ajack-of-all-trades job.
Yeah, so did you see the adsomewhere that they were looking
(05:15):
for somebody like?
Speaker 3 (05:15):
you, or did you show
up on your?
Speaker 1 (05:16):
doorstep.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Is this a friend of?
Speaker 1 (05:17):
yours.
How does that work?
Speaker 5 (05:18):
Well, actually my
husband and I both used to work
for a liquor distributor andSpindle Tap had contacted them
looking for some whiskey barrelsand so they actually touched
base with my husband first andthey just were talking and they
said they needed somebody tohelp with marketing and events
and stuff and he was like, ohwell, my wife would be perfect
(05:38):
for that.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
And the next thing
you know, I was here, so your
husband volunteered you for this.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
Yes, and now we're
here, nine years later.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Nine years?
Speaker 5 (05:49):
Yes, really Was this
here nine years ago.
This was here nine years ago, yes.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Really, this is the
best kept secret in Houston.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
It is.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Man, if you ever
wanted to get away or hide, this
would be the place to goBecause nobody knows about this.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
Yes, and we're family
friendly, so you can bring your
kids and hang out for the day.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
So what are the hours
of this place?
Speaker 5 (06:10):
So we're open Tuesday
through Sunday.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays we openin the afternoon.
Wednesdays we do a steak night, and then Thursday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday we open at11 am.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
Sundays we close at 7
, but Thursday, friday and
Saturdays we're open until 10.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Very good.
How do people find out aboutthis place?
Speaker 5 (06:32):
Well, there's still a
lot of people finding out about
it.
We have people here come allthe time, like I never knew this
was here.
It's kind of like our diamondin the rough.
But yeah, I mean, we do ourparts as far as you know, as
much marketing as we can, and wedo private events also, so we
have lots of Kind of like thatcrazy thing that you did
(06:55):
yesterday.
Yes, exactly yes.
That was a company event thatwas benefiting Texas Children's
Hospital.
So 300 people, cornholetournament, crawfish boil, and
then we have this event, ofcourse, which is amazing, and
then we have another event rightafter that.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Do you?
Yes, when?
Tonight, this evening?
Yes, this evening, right afterthat.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
Do you yes?
When?
Tonight, this evening?
Yes.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
This evening, uh-huh,
so you'll have just enough time
to clean up this mess and thenmove on.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
Yes, it's going to be
a quick turnaround, yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Do you want us to
stay for that event too?
Speaker 5 (07:24):
Oh, you don't have to
.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
We don't have to.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
We don't have to no
we don Having a crawfish foil.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
But they don't have a
radio show here.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
They don't.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Did you ask them if
they wanted one.
I should have yes.
You should have yeah, you canmarket us any time, okay.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Actually what we're
thinking about doing.
What's the boss's name here?
Yeah, brody Chapman.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
They want to open up
a permanent broadcasting center
right here at the Spindle TapWorldwide For our worldwide
broadcast on Saturday mornings.
That would be great.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Wouldn't it See?
We wouldn't have to moveanything, we could just come up
here.
We don't take our friends.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
This is like a
perfect little nook too, because
you're in all the action youcan see outside.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
We only work three
hours a week.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
Oh, that's awesome.
I'm jealous, are you?
You can see outside.
We only work three hours a week.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Oh, that's awesome.
Yeah, I'm jealous, are you?
Well, I have to tell you, whenI came up here, I'm thinking am
I in the right place?
And she, it does an office inhere.
She offices next door.
I found out, yes, because I goto the front door and it's
locked Call her on the phone.
Hey, I'm here.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
Oh yeah, just come on
in next door.
Yes, Yep, yep, we have fourother businesses that operate
out of here.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
And what other
businesses do the boys have?
Speaker 5 (08:41):
So they have a
logistics company.
They do trucking hot shots.
They have a crating companywhere they do big shipping
crates, a fracking company Well, the brewery, obviously.
And then they also dowarehousing Racking Company well
the brewery, obviously, andthen they also do warehousing.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
All in this little
nook in the corner of northeast
Houston and they've got such abig yard to play in out here,
yes, three and a half acres.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Three and a half
acres of grown-up play day out
there.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
Yes, play day for all
ages.
We've got putt-putt golf,cornhole basketball, baseball.
We've got horseshoes.
There's stuff to do.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
And a place for the
band to keep you entertained.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
We've got a stage for
the band.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
We actually have two
stages.
We've got this pavilion outhere and another one in the back
.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
Yes, Fortunately we
have some nice covered space,
especially with Houston andHouston weather.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
When I came to visit
you a month ago I was a little
bit concerned we all were aboutthe weather.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
And to do the
broadcast we either got to take
a tent or we got to.
Yes, the logistics of doingthis is a little bit more than
most people think.
Speaker 5 (09:47):
Yes, so we always do
things rain or shine, but we did
put an additional tent up justin case.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Gotcha.
So I want to ask you how manybeers are brewed here?
A lot, but we do have, andthese are all your own recipes
and trial and error to make it.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
I like dark beer.
You got any of that?
Speaker 5 (10:05):
We do.
We have a stout, and we reallymore focus, though, on IPAs.
That's kind of what we're knownfor, but we really have a beer
for everybody.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
We know how you
millennials are.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
I know Doody Beer
snobs.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
My favorite beer is a
Rita Margarita.
That's my favorite beer.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
I also like those.
Yeah, I don't discriminate.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I've sampled a few.
Speaker 5 (10:28):
Yes, me too.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
So I'm thinking that
beer's for everybody, yeah, um,
so I'm thinking that beer's foreverybody.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
Yeah.
So we um kind of branched out.
We really started um, whatreally made us kind of
well-known was the hazy IPAphase.
That happened like eight yearsago, um, and then we ended up
venturing because, you know, alot of people are not craft beer
drinkers.
We do, um, private events here.
So you know you have peoplehere that aren't necessarily
(10:55):
here because people are notcraft beer drinkers.
We do private events here.
So you know you have peoplehere that aren't necessarily
here because they're a craftbeer enthusiast.
They're just here becausethere's their companies hosting
an event.
So we also have, you know, lighter options.
The local lager is kind ofsimilar to like a Michelob, like
as far as carbs and calories.
So it's called local lager,like low-cal Ah.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
A little play on that
.
Yes, it tastes better, though, since you and your husband were
in the liquor business.
I would imagine that you knowyour liquor.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
Yes, yeah, we've both
been in the adult beverage
industry our whole careers.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
We've been into adult
beverages, but no industry.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Yeah, we always have
to fork over the money, but we
support the industry.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
We support the
industry.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
And we'll support it
even better when I have a stout
sitting right here.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
I will make that
happen.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Yes, well, we
appreciate that.
It's so funny because, from myexperience with the Hot Rod Tour
, all of this is happening rightnow as we speak.
Yes, and then in an houreverybody will be gone, exactly.
Speaker 5 (12:00):
It's so weird.
Yes, and then it's on to thenext round.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Yeah, so for you, all
this means is a double tap day
here at Spindle Tap, do you?
Speaker 5 (12:12):
have that often we do
, and it's you know really, when
.
When we first started, it wasall about the brewery, but now
that we, we, we didn't alwayshave this space over here, right
, so we ended up purchasing thatand putting was there something
on it?
Yeah, it was the church youtore the church down.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
Well you.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
You're changing water
into wine.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
It's kind of a holy
thing, but they couldn't convert
it to beer.
Speaker 5 (12:42):
It was falling down.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
What would Jesus do?
Speaker 1 (12:46):
Yeah, we're thinking
more along the lines of instead
of the water to wine, we'rethinking water to margaritas.
Speaker 5 (12:53):
That's a lot of
margarita.
No salt Frozen margarita.
No salt Frozen margaritamachines everywhere.
I'm on the rocks, I'm on therocks.
There you go.
Yeah, but yeah, we've grown alot in the last nine years.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
I'll say so how many
brewery establishments are there
in Houston?
I know of a couple others.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
There used to be a
lot more um, unfortunately, you
know, covid took out quite a fewof them.
Um, and then, just in general,um, the alcohol industry as a
whole has been kind ofstruggling a bit, so, um,
unfortunately a lot of them haveshut down.
There used to be a time um,most of them are in town, the
(13:32):
heights area east downtown onthis type of format or smaller
much smaller, yes, um.
So one thing that makes usunique is that we do have all
this space right, kind of like adestination brewery like right
and you can hide from somebodythat you don't want to be with
or see exactly oh, there's thataspect of it.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
I'm sorry, how big is
your distribution area?
I mean, how far out can yourproduct be found besides here?
Speaker 5 (14:04):
So we usually focus
on the backyard first, but we
are in seven different states.
We have a good presence inAustin, san Antonio, dallas,
okay, okay, louisiana is areally big market for us.
Cool, yes, so basically we havedistributors in each region.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Do you bottle it or
is it distributed?
You can't.
Speaker 5 (14:25):
So we only bottle one
beer a year, and that's for our
anniversary event.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
And that changes
every year in what you're
putting in it.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Yeah, it's usually a
stout, so I'll have to get you
one of those.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
Yeah, but other than
that we can only.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
And there's a canning
thing back there.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
Yep, we've got a
canning line Somebody asked me
what do they do.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
I said I don't know
what they do there, but I think
that the guys that own the placereally wanted to have a place
to go after work and they builttheir own brand brewery in there
Pretty much.
Speaker 5 (14:56):
Yeah, Spindle Tap
came from Spindle Top, Texas.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
And they got that
name and idea because the
logistics company was mostly inthe oil and gas industry, so
they ended up naming it SpindleTap and then that's kind of how
we went with the oil derrickthemes.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Yes, we're familiar
with that Houston Oilers,
houston Oilers and as you cansee, we're very much Houston
sports and all things Houston.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
So are there certain
days of the week that obviously
you've got games that kids canplay?
Yes, are there certain days orhours that kids aren't allowed
in here, like after seven?
Speaker 5 (15:38):
or must be 21 or no,
so um, we are family friendly
all the time all the time unlessit's a private event.
That gotcha, they don't want itto be right.
But yes, that's kind of likethe new thing now, like you can
bring your kid to the bar.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Well, it's not to me.
This isn't a bar atmosphere,it's not.
Speaker 5 (15:58):
Yeah, we wanted it to
be everybody.
The owners are veryfamily-oriented.
They all have kids.
They really wanted a placewhere friends and families could
come and hang out and stay awhile.
There's activities for the kids.
We're pretty enclosed, enclosedso it's, you know, fairly safe
away from the rest of thecommunity right, so they can run
(16:20):
around they'll tear the churchdown or jump on the train, yeah
so so you have a food truck outhere right now.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Yes, do you usually
have a food truck for events or
just yes, so we have.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
it's Texas, their
wood fire pizza.
He also does private catering,though.
He does really amazing barbecue.
He does our steak nights also.
He does some really amazinghamburgers too, actually, but
when he is not on site, we douse other food truck vendors and
have them out here.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
So you don't have
anything in-house.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
Right no kitchen
in-house.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Not yet Not not yet
that's going to be the next
jersey tear down on the otherlot, that's not a bad idea
because of the you know just uhhe was okay with it.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
It was competition
too close got you that's it all
right.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Well, hey, thank you
so much.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
I I'm glad that I
answered your phone.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
I should have said
something to you earlier and
didn't and forgot.
Imagine that.
But, we thank you very much.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
Absolutely, thank you
.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
You've been a great
host and we appreciate you and
we'll get out of here soon, butI am going to take you up on
that dart that stout, that dartstout Okay.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
And you let me know
if y'all want anything too.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
I've never had a
stout.
Oh well, you need to try one, Idon't know if I'm old enough to
have a stout.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Two straws, Two
straws yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
We're not having two
straws, that's a story yeah.
Thank you, hey, thank you verymuch.
Thank you again.

So that's what I have, uh-oh.
Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
I got a root beer.
Look at that.
I will tell you that that isprobably the best dark beer I
think I've had ever.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
And then we've got
Lone Star and Granberry.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Yeah, there you go
had to mention that Not to bring
everybody down, but huh, don'tdo that, I know.
So what did you get?
Ipa, of course you did.
Okay, millennial.
Nah, what are you going to getMars?
Speaker 4 (21:56):
I'm going to get the
bill.
I'm going to try one of these, but I ask her for just like half
of one or something.
I'm not a real beer drinkeranymore.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
I'm not either, but
that is really good.
Well, I'm going to try it.
All right, so not to bringeverybody down what, but this is
a story about a woman that waskilled.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Oh, no, and the man
behind the wheel.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Everybody down though
you're talking about car crash
and it's amanda cervadio 36, wascycling home from a group bike
ride in new york when she wasstruck and killed by a speeding
driver whose license plate had80 camera issued speeding or red
light tickets since mid 19 I'msorry, mid 2022.
(22:34):
Wow, beckham fisicube.
The man behind the wheel, according to police, is alleged
to be the type of driver beingtargeted by legislation in new
york that would installaftermarket speed limiters on
vehicles with six or more speedor red light camera tickets in a
year, as well as any driver whoreceives 11 or more points.
(22:57):
It's's a system that they havein New York?
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Yeah, we have that in
Michigan too.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
On their license in
two years.
New York's not alone Nearlypassed legislation from
Washington State Takes effect in2029 and will require reckless
drivers to install intelligentspeed assistance devices.
Virginia's intelligent speedassistance law, signed by the
Republican governor up there, will go into effect in 2026.
(23:21):
Legislators from California, arizona and Maryland have
proposed bills that require theuse of speed limiters for
reckless drivers, andIntelligent Speed Assistance
systems capture the speed limitbased on some combination of
cameras, roadsides, gps andvirtual maps.
(23:42):
Devices such as ignitioninterlocks from Smart Start,
sturdy's Lifesaver and MagtechSafeSpeed would be installed on
the vehicle and interface withthe throttle to resist drivers'
ability to travel faster than apredetermined limit In New York.
Affected drivers would not beable to exceed five miles per
(24:04):
hour above the speed limit InNew York.
Drivers would be required toinstall the devices in lieu of
licensed suspension and wouldhave to pay for the cost of the
device with allowances forlow-income drivers.
National Cooperative HighwayResearch Program has estimated
that as many as 75% of driverswith suspended licenses continue
(24:25):
to drive.
So interesting they need thathere in the state of Texas.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Well, it's
interesting, but I kind of don't
like it.
You know big brother coming inand I don't need him any further
in my business than what healready is.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
They're already in it
, buddy, unless you break the
law.
Yeah, but how are you?
Speaker 4 (24:41):
going to know that's
me driving your car or you
driving your car, because it'smonitoring the car, not the
driver.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
That's the problem
well, they don't drive the cars.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
The driver of the car
I know but the next step is to
take the rental cars and say, okay, all the rental cars can't
go any faster than this.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
Okay, so there's one
other item that I want to get in
before the end of the show, andthat is that Nissan North
America is suing a New Jerseydealership and its floor plan
lender, seeking damages and inorder allowing it to repossess
unsold vehicles, the storerefused to surrender.
(25:19):
The federal judge allegesinfinity of Inglewood failed to
pay Nissan more than $3.4million for 64 vehicles
delivered last fall 64 vehicleswere $3-something billion.
Golly okay.
They're going to jail andthey're going to owe an awful
lot of money.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
And give the cars
back.
Well, they've already taken thecars.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
Yeah, I never
understood People that make a
lot of money.
Sometimes they get greedy andthey just want to make more
money.
How much more money do you need?
I know how much more money Ineed, but I don't know how much
more money they need.
I know you bought a Ramblerearlier today.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
Yeah, rambler earlier
today.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Yeah, you did.
I sold you a rambler, an uglyrambler, convertible.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
It's yours now, my
little brother had four ramblers
.
He loved them.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
I don't know why you
call him your little brother.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
My younger brother,
your dumb brother had four
ramblers.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Sorry, I don't know
your brother, but I just Never
mind he's from another mother.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Yeah.
