Speaker 1 (00:05):
I'm Ali. I came out after twenty years of marriage
and I have three kids.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
I'm Melissa and I have two kids, and I came
out at thirty seven after an eleven year marriage.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
This podcast is about coming out later and the struggles
and victories that come with it.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
When coming out feels like the end of the world,
but it's really just the beginning.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
This is the Lesbian Chronicles. Welcome to the Lesbian Chronicles,
where Melissa and I will be flying together and we
do everything the opposite, even from when you let me
pick my seat.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Oh my god, I'm so curious how this trip is
gonna go out because the adult like we're gonna be I.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Mean, from the minute it started, I was like, no,
that doesn't work for me. Melissa asked me what seat
I want on the I looked at her like she
had two heads, like everybody wants the same seat, But
I found out no, they don't. No, I couldn't believe that.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
I prefer window.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
That's weird as hell.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Why do you want to put in because I will
prefer asle but I don't know. If I know, it's
like a longer flight and I'm gonna want to sleep.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
I want the window, the wall to.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
The window, my head against. I also rest my head
on the trade table, and I recently found oh that's weird.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
I'm so judgy. You have no idea what's going down.
But let me tell you, nobody wants like judging.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
From the standpoint of like it's dirty because I wipe
it down.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
No, it's more like, are you so sick and hungover
from your trip that you have to lay your head
down in front of all these people forward? It's like
it's like red light green. What's the game at school
where you put your head down? Seven ups?
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Seven ups? Now I'm doing this because I usually work
late and then I like to take the first flight out.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
You're the only one who gets the six and.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
So I'm usually running on very little sleep, and so yeah,
I'm gonna sleep on the airplane.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Okay, go back through to the window. Thing like that,
I honestly felt like, because there were three of us
standing there, I looked at you like, this is a
crazy question. Everybody wants the uice.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
He looked at me like you were ready for everybody
to be like, of course.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
It's the aisle, and then everybody wants the aisle. But
Here's how I do know that it's a thing is
because whenever I go to book my flights, I always
book at the last minute, so I'm usually like it's
down to what's left, and what's always left is middle
and window. It's never like there's an aisle seat hanging
out there. Those are like scooped up.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
I well, I think there is the part where like
people with longer legs, I think prefer an aisle seat.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
People who want to move their arm prefer an aisle seat,
people who want more space. It's like, do I want
to live sandwiched in between two houses or the corner unit.
I want the corner I at.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Least I guess I only have like one person on
this side I can lean, Like with the aisle seat,
there's nowhere to like lean where you're not in the way.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
But are you like climbing over these grown men to
get to your seat?
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Well, I typically get on the plane like with zone
like four or five.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
So yeah, it's not like it's usually open.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
And then like if I have to go to the bathroom,
which I try not to like, I really like I
stopped even like you know, everybody makes like let's drink
on the airplane, and I realized, like, that's it's not.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Fun at all. Oh, it's so to drink on the airplane.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
It just makes you have to go to the bathroom.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
I just realized another thing we do totally differently.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Do you drink on the air No, I do not drink.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
On the airplane. But I would never go on the
plane in my zone.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Really you're waiting and oh because you get there so late.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
I guess they're so late. But also I don't want
to be sitting Well, what do I want to get
on there and wait for all these other morons?
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I on want to do that because I want to
put my bag in the overhead or.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Another thing we do different, guys, I would never check
your math. There's no world I'm putting my bag in
the overhead. It's never It's never happened one time.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
You know why I'm like this Partly I don't know.
I'm starting to play a big part. I like when
Tom and I were together. You know, he's an airline pilot.
We flew stand by like he worked for an airline
that flew for US Airways in United that gave us,
like we could fly anywhere.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
In the world.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
It was stand by, and that means you're not guaranteed
a seat, So you gotta have you need your belongings
with you. You have to pack light, you have to
be ready to like move fast jump on the airplane.
If someone makes a ruckus and they get kicked off
that flight, you're you're waiting to get off.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Okay, like multiple times to you learned how to be like.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
I learned how to be very flexible and to pack
very lightly.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
But so now how do you do? Like I have
my briefcase. I have now what I have my luggage,
my brief I mean everything you say, I'm like, nope,
not doing that. So you've got luggage, Brie like work, Like,
how do you carry it? Who wants to have this case?
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Met me?
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Okay, I have a briefcase. I put my laptop in
my backpack. I don't schedule a flight around when when
I have to work, so I'm rarely taking out that laptop.
I'm watching movies.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Okay, the I'm the.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Slacker that looks like I don't have a job.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
This is the other thing to me, like.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Multiple episodes of euphoria on my phone and hoping that
you can see my.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Screen if I this is like gross, and people already
hate me, so I'm just gonna say it. Like when
I get on the plane and I'm literally get out,
I look next to me and the grown man is
watching movies, but he's kind of like in work attire,
but he's like watching movies. I'm always thinking in my head,
you're such a fucking loser, Like, do you have nothing
to do? It's Tuesday at two o'clock. Do you not
(05:45):
have one piece of work to do? The only reason
I know you don't is because I know what you do.
So it's like you're either on or you're off. But
like this guy he can't prepare for a meeting.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
With his laptop.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
It's the same job as me.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
He might but this is like my brain goes to
get your workout, dude, it's two o'clock on Tuesday. There's
got to be something you can.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Be working, like my coworker.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
And then I get mine out and I'm like loud,
I'm plugging it in, like just exactly like.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Vacation.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
It's so dumb. Well, if you're on vacation, you better
get your shit done so you can be on vacation.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Oh my god, it's terrible.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Funny, and let's also include what you pack.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
You're gonna by the end of the strip, you are
going to look at me and say never again again.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Let's tell the listeners what you always take.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
I pack every time my cure egg with coffee, and
then guess what I've added to the repertoire.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Okay, so I thought it coffee grinders.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
So good, This is so good. So this is. I
usually get to my destination and then I request a
fridge for the room. I say, I need a medicine
that needs to be refrigerated so that I can have
creamer in my fridge so I can just like really
control what's happening.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Technically it's medicine.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
It's technically it's medicine. But I discovered this creamer called
Laird's Superfood. This is not an endorsement. We're not getting
paid for this. But it's this like powder. It's like
the superfood vanilla powder, Laird's Superfood. It has lions mane
in it, and I did it on my last trip.
I just did this like a week ago. I literally
found this creamer. I bought it. I'm like, I'm gonna
(07:25):
try it because this will keep me from needing the
fridge and that whole apparatus. Yeah, totally worked. So now
I'm completely self sufficient without it.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
You've got your creamer. You don't have to go to
like the bidego and you have to go no oat milk. No.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Now I've got the cacups, the cureg maker, and now
I've got the creamer. I did add mugs this last
time because I was like, I don't.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
I mean, I can understand where you're coming from, because
I don't. It's such a rarity when I'm in a
hotel room and I'm like, oh wow, they've.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Got like a nice cure e setup. They don't like
good coffee mugs.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
You know, most of the time it's like this little
thin filters and tiny ass coffee maker.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Most of you tell us, now, don't even there is
no coffee maker. You have to go to the lobby.
They want you at the coffee bar. Yeah, so they're
not letting you do coffee in your room because they
want you at the coffee bar. And the problem with
me is I do not want to get ready and
go down there.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
I don't. I don't either.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
It's like I won't go eat breakfast.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Well, you're gonna love being with me. Let's get rooms
next to each other and I'll hook you up with
a little coffee in the morning.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Sounds good.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
You can just knock on the door for how annoying
I am. I'm gonna throw you a bone. I'm half
kidding about the judging with the movie, but I am
sometimes thinking, like, dude, you're forty five watching a fucking
movie right now, it's two o'clock. It's me, but I
but you truly do.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I mean sometimes I do work on the plane, like
it's been a while, but like, yeah, my job doesn't
require that. So if I'm working, it's like I'm writing
something or stand up or something like that. But I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
There's just something about getting on.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
A plane and popping on like some mindless TV show
and falling asleep. I like it.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
I won't fall asleep, but I like that you can.
And I'll try not to pepper you with questions from
the aisle.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Right it's like we're.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Gonna I feel bad for sitting in the middle of us.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
I know, rightly, but the truth is, like, what I
don't need as a conversation with my head turned to
the side.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
No, dude, I do not want to talk to people.
I've done it like a bunch of times if someone's
like engaging with me and I'm gonna be rude, but.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
It's so like draining, it's so draining. I don't care.
I'm never going to see you again. This is an
investment I don't need. Yeah. No, except for the fact
that you did mention, I think this was really good advice.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
What I heard recently that going to the airport you
should be dressing very nicely.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Now, that used to be a big thing.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Actually, my parents never would have less. Let us look
the way I see people look. My mom and dad
have my sister and I looking nice.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Oh, when Tom and I flew standby, we had to
make sure that we looked nice because oftentimes we would
get put up in first class.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
But they were not gonna let us sit in first class.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
We looked like crap. So yeah, But the reason this
person said that is because you never know who you're
going to meet at the airport. And it's such a
good way to look at it because it's so true,
like there's so many different people in and out of
the airport, you don't know who you're going to connect with,
Like from a business standpoint, you don't know if you
(10:28):
might meet like a future romantic partner. And if you're
sitting next to someone you're kind of like it's kind
of cute, and you're wearing like cookie monster pajamas.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Like get out of here, and I don't need to
see your toes on the plane.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Oh my god, like serious play.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
That's the other thing. Okay, I'm dressing like head to
toe in clothing on the airplane, like I'm wearing pants.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
I always bring a hoodie with me. I don't want
any body part.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
To Oh yeah, I know you don't because you've got
that thing. I forgot about that.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Yeah, like rooms transfer the same thing with a suitcase.
If someone puts a suitcase on.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
The bed, change the room, change rooms, chans. I now
think about you all the time because the problem is
is that in New York, where I end up a lot,
the hotel rooms are tiny, and so it is like
I've got this huge bag because you know I've got
the cure. Eg my bag is like a hard top,
(11:29):
massive bag, and so I'm always like where am I
putting this? Because Melissa has like ruined me for the
for the suitcase on the bed but a lot of.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
The time they have one of the suitcase things like
the Times.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
But I'm going to send a picture sometime of some
of the hotels I stay there.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
They are, Oh, I believe you.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Like every place I've stayed in New York City has
always been like a box.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
It's a box.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
They're tiny.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Even the bathrooms are tiny, Like there's nowhere for that bag. Yeah,
I mean I figured out. But between that the cure,
like the kids think it's like they're dying laughing. They're like,
I can't even believe this is the setup. But then
everybody's drinking the coffee.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
So then I'm like, guys, how do you sacrifice that space?
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Though in your bag?
Speaker 1 (12:13):
I know, well what I do. I just know what
I have to do. I've traveled with it so much
that the box and the foam that it came in
is all disintegrated, and now I have it in like
a half box that I've now created to pack it like,
I'm sure it's on its last leg and then I'll
have to get a new one.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
They're not.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
It's just like a single serve yea little guy.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
That's what I have.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Yeah, currently, But when I pack, though, I like to
take options for like outfits.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Same, That's why I have a hard top.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
How do you okay?
Speaker 1 (12:43):
And then that everything have keep in mind too, if
I'm going to see the kids, there's always a shit
ton of stuff. They have me bringing, Tato, have me
bringing knee high boots and then her winter coats. I'm
like Tato and then she'll send me home with stuff.
So I'm just I'm a well oiled machine. Or I
gotta check bags. Yeah, which is also a grind out.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Are you do you prefer Delta Delta I'm assuming Yeah,
I'm I'm Delta's top tier for me, followed by Southwest.
But yeah, outside of that, I don't do anything else.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Yeah, I think. And now that Delta or Southwest does
the assigned seats.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, I haven't flown them since they did that either.
But also, they don't let you check your back for
free anymore or not. Yeah, yeah, they don't let you
check it for free. But Delta in Southwest at least
they used to. They allow you to check like a
snowboard for free. American Airlines charges you.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Wait, why would they let you do that for free?
Speaker 3 (13:41):
I don't know, but it's such a great perk.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Yeah, serious perk, Like because I flew.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
To Salt Lake City and I flew American like thinking
it was cheaper, and it was like they were charging
me like for everything along the way. I know.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
It's like, dude, a thousand dollars later in fees, right.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
I should have done the other I should have done Delta.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
I keep every time I'm like, I'm so mad at
myself because I still don't have the AMX Delta for
really having free bag and I still haven't done it.
And every time I'm like, Okay, this time, I'm doing it,
and then I don't do it, and then I'm like
I'll do it the next time, and then I just
don't And I can't even imagine because every bag is
thirty five dollars.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Yeah, I've had that Amex for years. It's so smart
and it's like super helpful.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
You get all kinds of perks, credits would like Lift
I think or Uber one of this too, So yeah,
I got to do it.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
I got to do it. But yeah, that's going to
be interesting. And the reason all of this is happening
is because of Seattle October eighteenth. You guys, tickets are
selling so like well, like, I'm so excited, And how
do you know when the early bird, like the discount ends.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
I think it ends.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
September fifteenth.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Okay, so get your tickets. People are coming in. I've
heard from multiple people on our email that they're flying
in and I've heard from multiple people that are flying
in alone. Yeah, which fuck yes, Like you are a badass.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
I know.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
It's awesome, Like I'm so excited.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Like We've posted a few things on social media and
the response has been great with people interested. So don't
feel like, oh, I don't know if I should buy
a ticket to this because I don't know if anybody's going.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
To be there.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
There's going to be people there, for sure, an abundance
of people.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
So get your tickets. We're gonna have a pre party
and after party and then the event itself is going
to be amazing. Definitely come. And then the Social Queer
is hosting the first hour. Is that right in Seattle?
Speaker 3 (15:38):
So right, So we're.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Gonna do like a little mixer social mixer before our event,
and it's being hosted by the Social Queer.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
She's going to be there. She's going to kind of
help with, you know, forcing people to mingle.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Basically, which is so cool. So those people who are
showing up alone don't feel like you're going to be
alone because there's we're going to make sure that you
know this happens and kind of nudge.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
People along too.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Yep, exactly cool.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
And we also have if so for those people traveling
from out of town, we have a block of rooms
at the Silver Cloud Hotel.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
What do they need to mention a reserve?
Speaker 2 (16:18):
If you just go on our event right page to
you buy your tickets, there's a link there and it'll
reserve your room at a discounted rate.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Yeah, and the rate was great and the hotel is renovated,
looks fantastic.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
I mean, it's super.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Cute, super cute.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Yeah, I'm kind of disappointed we're only going for.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Like, Melissa, seriously, if you want to at a night,
I'm way in.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
So just maybe we look at that and then we
can have a day to like see Seattle.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Yeah that'd be great.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
All right, well let's get into it.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
You said that we've gotten some emails or an email
from someone in particular who was kind of asking about
the styling of like after coming out, and this I
think this is such a good topic because maybe we
should do this on our Instagram.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
We should post before and after picture.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Oh my god, it's like night and fucking.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Day, like yeah, free coming out and today Yeah, oh
my god.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
It's insane. I yeah, and I feel like too, like
even my style has morphed a ton. But it's also
I flip, like there's I notice, like I'll be mask
for three days and then all of a sudden, I'm
in a very feminine para jeans and top that's girly,
Like I literally am kind of all over the place.
(17:28):
I would say more often now mask, but both and
really my straight friends are looking kind of gay these days.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Yeah, that is the thing. I feel like, style just
in general has shifted to be a little bit of
a blend for women, like feminine and masculine energy. You know,
there's not like a lot of women, especially like your
daughter's age, are wearing like longer shorts.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Yeah, I wear long shorts. I wear baggy long shorts
all the time.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
And that was like unheard of totally, you know, twenty
five years ago, thirty years ago, everybody was wearing daisy dukes.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
You know, it's so true and really like a super
easy thing to put on that. I mean, I saw
in New York a ton and I do. It is
a super easy thing to put on is baggy jean
shorts that are like long, and then a white T shirt,
just a plain white. It can be Hanes, but like
a white T shirt and necklaces like that outfit. It's
(18:26):
super stylish. It's so easy. And then if you really
want to make it look amazing, put loafers on with
socks and it's just like that's a simple simple, does
not require a whole lot outfit.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
That I do.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
I bet once a week.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
You know another thing people kind of are thinking they
have to spend a lot of money. I think that's
one reason why people steer clear of revamping their wardrobe.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Right.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
It's something that I've noticed anytime that.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
I've been on the dating apps. There's people where.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
I'm like, you've owned those jeans easily since two thousand
and one. Yeah, new jeans. I'm impressed by the quality
for sure that they've lasted this long, But don't be
so like attached to that because it can stand out.
You know, people notice these things if you aren't, and
I'm not saying you have to like keep up with
every single like latest trend.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
But there's classic pieces, classic.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Pieces like for me, I own what is it, a white,
a black, and a gray T shirt all from this
brand called Rowan and it is it is expensive, but
these are gonna last, and I just make sure that
I take really good care of them. You know, I'm
not putting in the dryer, like I'm letting them hang
to dry, you know that kind of thing. And I
just I knew that those are like investment pieces. But
(19:42):
then I also have stuff that I get from like
Tjmax totally, Like the outfit that I wore to DJ.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
The other day.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
I the shirt and the pants both from TJ Max.
My hat was from Target. Like that outfit all together
could and have cost me more than like I'd say,
forty dollars.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Right, It's like, yeah, you just have to have an
idea of what you're going to do, and then you
can do it on the cheap by following seeing what
the it looks like. Like sometimes I'll even take a
picture out of a magazine and like just have it
in my closet and then refer to it.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Yeah, and you can really piece together some stuff like with.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
What you already have totally another staple piece to me,
and I have one from All Saints, but it doesn't
have to be this. It doesn't have to be All Saints.
Is a black leather jacket. I had it for a decade.
It never goes out of style. It's I take it everywhere.
It's a piece that's easy all fall, all winter, even
(20:42):
like at restaurants if it's a cold restaurant, I'll bring
it when it's in the summer. And it's a piece
that you can literally throw on with the jean short,
white T shirt and it elevates that look like that's
another kind of staple piece, or even a jean jacket too.
I mean my kids do that all the time, big
jean jacket staple piece.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
And I have a couple of jean jackets.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Yeah, all of them I bought on clearance.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Yeah. Or go to a drift store, go to the
clearance Oh yeah, the thrift store is great clearance section.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
I always hit up at American Eagle.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
There used to be a gap here in Peachtree City,
and I would go there all the time and just
we'll get their clearance stuff. Yeah, Loft has a great
clearance section and you can find some really good stuff
marked down. Definitely same again TJ Max. It's like you
wouldn't You might not recognize the brands, but they have
(21:35):
really good cheap stuff. Definitely, and that for me, especially
if I'm buying something more trendy, I don't want to
spend a ton of money. Targets another great place to go.
And also don't be afraid of the men's section.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Yeah, yeah, that's another good tip. Yeah, sometimes you can
find get my jeans, my Levi's that people talk comment
on all the time, a men's mm hm. So I
think that's definitely true. And if you do want to
have some budget like Pete or not budget, but like
pieces that are like investment pieces more. There's a store
called buck Mason. They have them in New York, They've
(22:08):
got one in Atlanta, they have one in Nashville. I'm
sure a lot of big cities have buck Mason. But
it's a very kind of industrial look. So if you're
a gay woman, they have a women's section and a
men's section, but like it's very much you know in
my closet there's black, white, tan denim. Like it's very organized,
almost like a store.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
And more time in your closet than any friends.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
My closet, though Melissa walked in once it was like,
where's all your stuff? I'm like, but it's empty. But
that's because I purge and also because I keep very
for me. I do have like investment pieces that I
only have like two instead of having ten. But Buck
Mason is a place I go all the time because
it's not super fem It's like classic Oxford's classic pants,
(22:57):
great jeans, great t shirts that are kind of gay looking,
but it's still in the women's section. But it's that
industrial kind of look and you wouldn't want to get
everything there, but it's like it does have pieces that
if you have just like one piece from there, it
elevates the whole look.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
One of those shirts that I get asked out asked
about a lot, is that mechanic shirt.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Yes, I knew you were going to say that.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Yeah, I mean, and I've been stopped twice and asked
if I'm a mechanic.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
Oh god, so I obviously have the vibe down.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Yes, you have the vibe down. It's the walk.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
That's the work, the walk. That shirt is from Abercrombie.
I want to say I got it marked down because
Abercronbie like, yeah, it's like a little bit on the
higher side, but they have good sales. But with that one,
I cropped it it's a men's extra small and cut
the bottom and and my mom himmed it. My eighty
(23:56):
year old mother him the bottom for me, and so
it looks more feminine that way, if you like, I
do this with so many shirts now, if they're kind
of long, you crop them right at your waist and
it makes it like elevates it.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
So much more. It's true, and it doesn't have to
be like a belly shirt.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
You know, or anything like that, but just like cutting
off that like bottom like three inches or so really
makes a huge difference.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
When Tatum was home from college and she's really into fashion,
so she came into my closet in a way that
you can like convert another saving way. She went in
my closet and she literally said, like, show me what
you don't wear anymore, and I'm gonna restyle it for you,
and just started like pull I pulled dresses out that
I don't wear anymore, and she turned them into shirts
(24:44):
or like, and I was like, holy shit, I would
have like just given that away. And she like showed
me how to cut sleeves off, how to cut the
bottom off, like you're saying, or like I said, dresses
like you keep the top and then the bottom's gone,
and she like styles it. And then you put that
with the jean shorts and it's like you have this
kind of femme up top baggy boy jeans down below,
(25:05):
and it like works in a way that I would
have thrown the dress away.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Another place you shouldn't sleep on is old Navy.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Okay, haven't been in there in a decade.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
Like my tomboy jeans, I got the old Navy.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
I love the way those fit.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
I have a like kind of casual white button down
that's like, you know, it's it's wrinkly all that stuff,
but it's thick so you can't see through it.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
That's old Navy.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
White but imperative.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Oh my god. And yeah, so I have a casual one,
and then I also have like a nice one that
kind of makes me look like a waiter.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
But mechanic, what are we going out? What are we
going house?
Speaker 2 (25:46):
But I got that one from Express, but Express can
be hit or missed with their their white butts.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
How do you have these I don't even know where
these stores are.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
Maybe it was Banana Republic. I don't know that.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
We don't have a mall in the city.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
No, not amore.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Yeah, like that's you're one hundred percent right, because like
I've bought stuff from Express and had to return it
and had to drive to like Gwenett County to do it.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
So I buy most of my stuff online, which really sucks.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
But most places have a decent return policy where you
just pop it back in the mail.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Yeah, don't like it, It's totally easy. Yeah, I think.
I think all those are good, And probably a lot
of our listeners do have males because they live out
in the suburbs where there are moles. Still.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Yeah, I know the one here is minimal.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
Another store that I always leave there and find something
as anthropology. Do you guys have that?
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Not here? You know, I don't think I've ever found
anything in really.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Like Okay, Yeah, I tend to. I was in there
with Kristin the other day, and I've found a thousand
things I wanted. The problem there is just that it's
so big and so much that you're like it takes
a long time versus like a small buck Mason is small.
It's like, yeah, white T shirts the black T shirts,
and I prefer that, but anthro I always find stuff. Yeah,
(27:05):
I guess it's.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Zara, H and M. Those are also great places, like
especially if you go in the store instead of buying online,
because I feel like H and M their quality is
very hit or miss.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
And do we have to then talk about now fast Fashion?
I mean that that is I don't know.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
If you go in there and you put your hands
on the items, you can tell what's quality and what's
going to last. I have some stuff like blazers that
I've had for years and they're great.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
Yeah, the blazer is another great thing down it's worth it. Yeah,
that's a staple piece.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
But yeah, the Fast Fashion is tough because I have
ordered stuff from she and I have some stuff that's great, great,
I love it. And then I just sit back a
shirt the other day because I was like it felt
like a parachute like material.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Is there any like I don't I have. I don't
know what it's that, what even kind of clothes they have?
But is there any feeling? Did you want to that
show by Now where they talked about the I think
that store in particular.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Like, yeah, I think so it was. Was it on Netflix? Yeah,
it's like they'd wastefulness.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Maybe, but it's like if people are ordering clothes and
they're wearing them, then how I guess it's wasteful because
why because they make so many for cheap that you
just wear it a few times and then throw it away.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Well yeah, and a lot of the times they tend
to like fall apart quickly. You know, you might get
like one wash out of them. Kind of a store
like back in the day that was kind of like
notorious for that, like maybe like five seven nine or
some store like that, Like I don't know, but you
could you'd get like one wear out of a tank
top and wash it and it was like just falling apart.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
What would be really an interesting thing is to see
who ends up spending more, the person who does the
minimalist my closet or the person who has a ton
but spends less.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
That's a good question.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
Like I wonder if it's a wash in the end ye,
no pun intended, like if it's just like the same.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Because I feel like, you know, for me, I'm I'm
going into TJ Max, I'm going into Target.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
Now you're still you're ginding stuff quality brands that are
now just ended up a TJ. Max. It's not Sheen, Yeah,
it's right, you know whatever the brand Polo or something. Yeah, okay,
but like.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Like Target, like they have these great Actually I'm wearing
one of them right now. It's like a tank top.
These things are like eight dollars piece.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
They're it'll last for all summer.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Yeah, longer than that. And they're like they've got a
good cut to them that makes me look like I
have muscles you do, and I love it. Like I
own probably five of these black tank tops and eight
dollars Like that's nothing.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
No, you always look good to me, thank you. Yeah,
that's our fashion episode.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
It's our fashion episode. We're the experts, right, We're not,
but it is like we are kind of morphing.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
No.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
I I honestly, I pay a lot of attention to
this stuff.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Yeah, so than I did before I came out, And
I've kind of embraced a lot of different aspects of
like men's clothing, like I said, and just I used
to feel like I had to buy all these different
color like a bright color and needed blue all this stuff,
and now I'm like none of that fits my personality.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Most of my closet is black, gray, and white.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
I know, same a white T shirt and a pair
of jeans. Nobody does it. I mean that to me
is like the pinnacle of style. Yeah, I just don't
hear it with like any kind of shoes to down totally.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Like I think it's for shoes, I would say right now,
good options would be, like you said, a pair of loafers, yep,
I have a pair that I got from rack Room
that are little boys.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
They were like thirty dollars.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
I think Converse are always a great staple. Those are
like never going out of style. And a good pair
of boots like Doc Martins or Blundstones like those are
going to last you in eternity, It's.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
True, and you can wear them from cutting the grass
to going out like one Stones go everywhere. Another great
pair of boots are fry like lace up boots.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
I see that.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
I mean I get compliments when I wear those. But
you can wear them with shorts, you can wear them
with jeans, you can wear them. They're kind of mask
but they're clearly a women's shoe. So I think that's
another good option. I don't wear tennis shoes as much
as you do.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
Yeah, I have them.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
I just always gravitate to loafers.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
And so I'm like having to stop myself from buying
more tennis shoes. I have really so many high tops
it's stupid.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
And I almost feel like my loafers are more comfortable
than my tennis shoes.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
Really, Yeah, what kind of loafers do you have?
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Do you know?
Speaker 1 (31:45):
I am like drawing a blank. They're just shiny loafers
with a tassel, and I just wear knee eyes with them. Yeah,
but they're just really comfortable, So I always end up
in them. Like it's like I try to like make
myself wear different shoes, and I always wish I was
in my loafers. Anyway, they are cute.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
I love them so well.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
I appreciate it my friends, all right.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
And hopefully we helped some people up there with their
little fashion choices.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
And also, don't let age like grecate what.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
You're wearing totally, like fuck all this shit. You can
wear the same thing that a twenty five year.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Old Kelly, yeah, or a man's wearing, or that a
man's wearing. Yeah, it does not matter, So treat yourself,
do it how you want to do it, Do it
how you feel good, period hardstock, love it all right, goodbye,
my friend.
