“Speak Lord, for your servant is listening”
「神様お話しください。しもべは聞いて おります」
I heard God’s voice. I heard through his word and his spirit re-afirmed it.
(Isaiah 7:9b NIV) If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.

The beginning of the night
(1 Samuel 3:1 NIV) The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions.
(1サムエル3:1 JCB)少年サムエルは、エリのもとで主に仕えていました。そのころ、主のことばが人に臨むことはまれでした。
Starts “Words were rare” (rare - unique - priceless -no ‘paratz’ no break-through/ breakout visions.
People want to hear the voice of God - Is God true? Is God good? YES: Just read and hear his voice.
The end of the night things had changed.
“all the ears of everyone in Israel shall tingle.”
(1 Samuel 3:11 NIV) And the Lord said to Samuel: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle.
(1サムエル3:11 新改訳)主はサムエルに仰せられた。「見よ。わたしは、イスラエルに一つの事をしようとしている。それを聞く者はみな、二つの耳が鳴るであろう。
-the precious promises of God
(2 Peter 1:4 NIV) Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Q:What made the difference? 何が違いとなった？
A: One person (Samuel) heard Word of the Lord 一人（サムエル）が神様のことばを聞いた
How did this happen? どうやって？
1.Samuel hears the first words from the Lord ... God speaks his name over and over
サムエルは神様から最初のことばを聞いた…神様は何度も名前を呼ぶ
(1 Samuel 3:2-7 NIV) One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place. (3) The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the Lord, where the ark of God was. (4) Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.” (5) And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down. (6) Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” “My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” (7) Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.
(1サムエル3:2-7 JCB)ある夜、年老いて目がかすんだエリが寝床に入り、サムエルも契約の箱を安置した宮で寝ていました。(4-5)すると主が、「サムエル、サムエル」と呼びました。サムエルは、「はい。ここにいます」と答えて、「どうしたのだろう」と思って飛び起きると、エリのもとへ走って行き、「サムエルです。何かご用ですか」と尋ねました。エリはけげんな顔で、「呼んだりしていないよ。さあ、戻ってお休み」と答えました。そのとおりにすると、(6)主がまたも、「サムエル」と呼んだのです。サムエルはまた飛び起きて、エリのもとへ駆けつけました。「はい。何かご用でしょうか。」「いいや、呼んだりしていないよ。いいから、帰ってお休み。」(7)サムエルはまだ、主からおことばを頂いたことがなかったのです。
2.Eli, God's leader, knows the Lord, but finally realises he needs to help another generation hear it too
神様のリーダーであるエリは神様を知っていたが、他の世代にも神様のことばが伝わるように助けるべきだとやっと気づいた
(1 Samuel 3:8-9 NIV) A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. (9) So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
(1サムエル3:8-9 JCB)ですから三度目に呼ばれた時も、またエリのもとへ駆けつけました。「はい。ご用でしょうか。」この時エリは、主が少年に語ったのだということを悟りました。(9)そこで、彼はサムエルに言い聞かせました。「さあ、もう一度帰ってお休み。今度呼ばれたら、『はい、主よ。しもべは聞いております』と申し上げるのだよ。」サムエルは寝床に引き返しました。
