New York City just elected a 30-something Democratic Socialist who's never run anything, and now he wants to open state-run grocery stores while doubling minimum wage to $30 an hour. What could go wrong? We've literally seen this playbook fail spectacularly - Kansas City's government grocery store collapsed in August after struggling with empty shelves and crime, costing taxpayers millions. Yet here we go again with the greatest hits: rent freezes, free buses, and city-owned everything. The bodega owners Mandani name-dropped in his victory speech? They're calling it the road to communism and they're not wrong. One owner perfectly summed it up: "We are on the way to becoming a communist state." Meanwhile, businesses and wealthy residents are already planning their exodus to Florida and Texas, leaving taxpayers to fund this socialist experiment. Is anyone surprised that the same policies driving people out of California and Washington are now coming to NYC?
