Speaker 1 (00:12):
Two three sixty Arabia League from every angle joining me
in the great Gordon talis. It's been the Journal Australian
Port Orleans Dean Richie, and he's done it again. Bulldog
Richie just continues to light the fuse and gee up
these Queenslanders.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
I have pek what have you done? Now? Pick and flick.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
There it is the back page of the mighty Daily
Telegraph saying the pick and stick motto is absolute malarkey. Gordon,
now pick and flick. And it's about time Queensland realized
that this holy than no holier than thou attitude has
to end. And poor old DCE, a legend of the state,
has been treated as us scapegoat.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
To agree with you, I agree with you.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
I wanted to come back at me.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
Well, tedsco was e the Australian captain that was a
mid series, right, so our jake a winning series not
mid series.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
The first time in history captain has been dropped after
one game.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
After beat and only played one. It was not about
twenty one game cruel, not a bad stace.

Speaker 5 (01:14):
Oh well, I'm not retrested in his suit wearing a
Queensland suit all night.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
These aren't you threads. I didn't have a suit with me,
so I had to come from Lura for this shirt.
So you got that from wardrobe. I think it might
be Cromps So.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Bad Queens and I'm wearing one of their suits, same
body show. I'm telling you now, Cooper's gone back to
the gym right now, he's picked up his gym's.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
To the new South Falst coach, one of your mates.
So he is a great man.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Let's cross live now to Blues coach Larry Day on
the j I O True Blue Mike Laws. Thanks for
joining us and we just spoke about it. You made
here next to me. He keeps lighting the fears Bulldog,
and he's geeing those Queenslanders up.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
How do you feel about it?

Speaker 6 (02:00):
He certainly doesn't speak for us, bull Frog, and he's
been slipping around up here looking for stories.

Speaker 7 (02:09):
The old days.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Losman used to lick it to me on the side.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
I remember, don't forget them.

Speaker 6 (02:13):
Days years ago.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Alright, I was in all seriousness.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Congratulations, we haven't spoken here since game one. On the
win and you go into game two making or having
to make limited changes.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
That must feel good.

Speaker 7 (02:30):
Yeah, it does break.

Speaker 6 (02:31):
I think the fact that We've only had to make
the one change and it's a big loss Mitch Barnett
because I thought he was very inspirational with his performance
in Game one. But Stefano was with us the whole
campaign and he actually trained every session learning into game one,
so for us that's an advantage. So we felt that
he's playing some really good football. He's doing everything we
want him to do and it's going to be a

(02:54):
be asked to fill the role of Mitch Barnett, but
we know he's capable of doing it.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
Hey Laurie, it's good here mate. What do you expect
from the Queenslander's down one mill in the series? We
don't have a great record over there in Perth. What
are you expecting from us?

Speaker 7 (03:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (03:10):
I think they're going to be tough.

Speaker 6 (03:11):
Good do I think the amount of criticism that they've
received has been over the top. I mean, at the
end of the day, it was eighteen six in a
State of Origin game and they could have played a
lot better than what they did. Our blokus know that
Queensland will come out with fire in their belly. They'll
come out playing their best football.

Speaker 7 (03:33):
And we know they're dangerous.

Speaker 6 (03:35):
When the people are writing them off, so we certainly
won't be falling into that trap underestimating them.

Speaker 7 (03:41):
We a lot to play for ourselves, as do.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Quiensland Laurie Paul Cruley.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Mate, how do you go about making sure that complacency
doesn't come into it though? Because like Bulldogs done the
story today and it's human nature, isn't it. You can
fall into the trap and New South Wales have done
it over the history of Orange many times.

Speaker 5 (04:01):
How do you make sure it? How do you address it?
Do you do you address it?

Speaker 7 (04:06):
Yeah, we certainly address it.

Speaker 6 (04:07):
But I feel comfortable in the fact that, you know,
we've got a lot of these Penrith players in our
group and they're real leaders in their own.

Speaker 7 (04:16):
Sort of way, and the fact that they've been able.

Speaker 6 (04:19):
To win four consecutive premierships suggests to me that that's
a strong culture. We've got strong leadership, so they'll be
invaluable in their role this week. But as I said,
you know, we're playing to try and win the series,
so that should be motivation enough for our guys. We
know the challenge that awaits us, we'll confront a head on,
but preparation will be spot on. Mentally will be fine,

(04:43):
and then it'll come down to the bounce of the
ball on the night loss.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
Isn't Max King a truly remarkable story like that? For
nine years really just couldn't quite establish himself as an
out of all player for varying reasons, injury being the
primary reason.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Now he's not in the Origin side, but you've got
him star. It's a wonderful story, isn't it.

Speaker 7 (05:03):
Yeah, it is, Doggie.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
I think Max is a great example of someone that's
had to fight and show resilience all the way through
his NR real career, and I think that really holds
people in good stead. They appreciate the opportunity when it's
given to them, They understand what they do well in
their game, and they consistently do that when they pull
on whatever jersey they're playing for. So you see his

(05:27):
performances for the Dogs, and then you saw what he
did in game one off the bench, I thought he
was great.

Speaker 7 (05:34):
Now gets an opportunity.

Speaker 6 (05:35):
To start, so I think you feel more comfortable starting.

Speaker 7 (05:38):
But all his actions.

Speaker 6 (05:39):
Just suggest to me that he's an Origin player, just
one of those players that goes about his business.

Speaker 7 (05:45):
Low Fuss just gets the job done.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Lons Queensland have dropped DC, They've brought in in. How
does that change or does it change your approach and
the team heady into game two.

Speaker 6 (05:59):
Yeah, Tommy is one of the best players in the game,
and I think what he did for Coisland last year
and what he's been doing for North Queensland over the
last couple.

Speaker 7 (06:09):
Of years has been exceptional.

Speaker 6 (06:10):
He's a constant threat with the ball, and he and
Cam Munster, you know, we're going to make sure that
we contain them on Wednesday.

Speaker 7 (06:19):
They're running games will be so critical.

Speaker 6 (06:22):
To how Coensland play and I think that both those
players will have huge impacts on the game. But we're
going to try and be at our best and we're
going to try and nullify them. But Tommy did and
he's a wonderful player and he challenges the line more
than probably minute most hard packs in the comp and
we expect him to do that.

Speaker 7 (06:40):
Again on Wednesday. Los.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
What about Cameron Munster being named as the Queensland captain,
do you think that that will inspire him to go
after the game more too?

Speaker 7 (06:52):
I think so, Paul.

Speaker 6 (06:53):
I think that Cam Munster, to me, I think he'd
be really suited to that Captain's ye rolled.

Speaker 7 (06:58):
He just seems like that player that would you know,
I feel like he's got to do.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
A bit more than what he normally possibly would and
try and carry that responsibility of leading his state, and
I reckon he'd be sitting back thinking, you know, I've
got the six jersey that Wally Lewis used.

Speaker 7 (07:15):
To play in.

Speaker 6 (07:16):
I'm now captain of Coensland. I'll show everyone what I'm
capable of doing on this arena. He's done it many
times before and I've seen guys like that that the
champion players get that extra bit of responsibility and they thrive,
and I think Cameron will be one of those players.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
Hey Laurie, talking about champion players, what about pain has
and game one didn't train all week?

Speaker 5 (07:37):
Comes out?

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Same with Crichton by pain Has you played with Glenn Lazarus,
Paul Harrigan pain As is he one of the best
front roles that you've ever seen.

Speaker 7 (07:48):
He's certainly on each way.

Speaker 6 (07:49):
Gordy, I think what he's been able to do in
a short period of time has been amazing. And for
a big man, he just moves across the ground so well,
both with the ball and without it, and He's only
relatively young still, so you know the world's he's oyster.

Speaker 7 (08:04):
You know.

Speaker 6 (08:04):
I think he'd love to go on and win a
competition with the Broncos. He'd love to win more Origin
Series with New South Wales. And if he stays on
the path that he's on, then there's no doubt that
at some stage in the next four or five years
people will start to compare into those type of guys.
But you know, Pain's very well grounded. He understands that
you've got to continually.

Speaker 7 (08:24):
Do it at this level.

Speaker 6 (08:26):
You know, you can't rely on your last performance.

Speaker 7 (08:29):
He'll have a target on his back. He accepts that.

Speaker 6 (08:32):
But we're going to go harder than what we did
in Game one and Pain Pain.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Will Now I'm saddened by the demise of the bonding session.
When you and Gordy were around, you would spend three days.
Now we're lucky to get two midies a light out
of this mob. That would be more responsible, aren't they.

Speaker 6 (08:49):
Yeah, it surprised me Bulldog in the first camp. To
be honest with you, they are professional. They go about
their business so well. There's only a couple of them
that you know, have it be in our day, everyone
would have a beer and you would be out for
two or three days. Yeah, but they are so professional
and how they go about it. They understand the responsibilities

(09:11):
that come now with playing NRL and if they want
to have a long, successful NRL career, then ye know
they've got to look after their body and they're gonna
look after themselves. So yeah, it's certainly a different time,
but one for the better, I think.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Yep, times have changed.

Speaker 8 (09:28):
Lars.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Congratulations again on that winning game one and good luck
in game two. And I'll try and quite this bulldog.
Richie down next to me for you guys.

Speaker 7 (09:38):
When are you coming up here next? Bulldog?

Speaker 2 (09:40):
I'll be there straight after this show.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Lace giving him my guts for this great state.

Speaker 7 (09:46):
I'm sure you do.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
You don't speak for us though, Okay, you can't wait
by the sounds and let's head nor to Queensland now
ere Murine's cash. Billy Slater joins us. Billy, thanks mate
for joining us. We really appreciate it. As always, I'll
get straight to it. A tough decision for you to
drop d C and can you talk me through how
that come about?

Speaker 9 (10:09):
Yeah, thanks for having me, Braith. Obviously you know really
tough decision to be on. It's probably the toughest phone
call that I've had to make since I've.

Speaker 8 (10:16):
Been the coach of this Queensland State of Origin team.

Speaker 9 (10:18):
And it was made what I believe is the best
thing for the team. You know, after every Origin game,
you look at the you know the selections of every
player and and you know who deserves the position the most.

Speaker 8 (10:34):
And this is what we've come up with.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
Hey Billy talking about selections, Cameron being captain, it's a
it's a big honor to be a captain of the State.
What was his first reaction when you told him?

Speaker 9 (10:50):
Uh, there was actually no words. Yeah, it was.

Speaker 8 (10:55):
It was quite a moment that I'll remember, Actually, Gordy.

Speaker 9 (10:59):
It's it was last night, about nine o'clock, nine thirty.
I was just sitting in my room and made the
decision and sent him a text and told him to
come up and.

Speaker 8 (11:09):
Have a chat.

Speaker 9 (11:10):
We spoke a little bit about footy and then I
just said to him that I want him to lead
this team and be the captain. Yeah, he got a
little bit emotional, and I know how much this team
means to him. I know how much this state means
to him. And I know how much the position of
leading this state means to him. So you know, the

(11:34):
thing about great leaders, Gordy, and you were one of them,
is they.

Speaker 8 (11:38):
Get their job done.

Speaker 9 (11:40):
You know, they're consistent in their position and they make
sure that number on their back is taken care of
before anything else.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Billy Paul Cruley here, I say this respectfully, mate, but
there's Origin creates a lot of debate and a lot
of you know, interstate rivalry, and the talk down here
today is around the Queensland pick and stick mentality and
how you threw that out the door with Daily. Do
you look back on the decision Do you regret not

(12:06):
picking Tom first up for game one?

Speaker 9 (12:11):
It's actually a good question, Paul, and no, no, I don't.
I felt Daily deserved that opportunity in game one, and
now I feel Tom did and really has earned this
opportunity to play in the Seven Jersey. So I'm really
comfortable with the decision that we've made and then we've
come up with, and we do believe it's the best
thing for the team. You know, Alan Langer played his

(12:35):
last Origin game for Queensland at some stage, Cameron Smith did,
Gordon Tallis did, I did Everyone has their time and
we just feel it's Tom Didan's time now. You know,
Kirk cape Well's back in the team now. He didn't
play in the last game, so you know, it's it's
just about thinking about what he's best for the footy
team and sometimes those decisions are tough ones.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Billy, it's Dean.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
I wrote this morning on the back page that Queensland's
once famous pick and stick is now pick and flick?

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Am I on the money, Billy? Or am I jibber?

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Oh?

Speaker 8 (13:13):
Sorry, Dean, I didn't get to read your article today,
so I apologize for that. But yeah, look, at the
end of the day, the.

Speaker 9 (13:22):
One thing I do understand is that everyone has their opinion.
And I do sit in your chairs for most of
the year and it's very easy sitting in those chairs,
so a lot harder when you have to make the
decision that matters.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
What about Billy, the decision to keep with Calin at
fullback and was there a consideration after Reese Walsh's return
the other night to maybe bring him in for this game.

Speaker 9 (13:50):
Yeah, there was no one more proud to see Reese
Walsh get back on the field and play the way
he did on the weekend Paul and than me. So
like I love Reese, I love him as a peron.
A lot of time for him because he has a
lot of time for his game and he wants to
be the best he possibly can. But no, we're very,
very confident in Kaylan. You know, we thought he did

(14:13):
some great things in game one. We didn't get a
whole heap right in Game one as a team, and
that's really important for us.

Speaker 8 (14:19):
To go after that for game two.

Speaker 9 (14:21):
It's been a fair bit of honesty around the first
thirty hours of camping in this game too, So yeah,
we want to get those things right so we can
unlock some of what Kaylen brings to the team and
some of the other strengths of the players.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
Billy talking about unlocking someone Harry Granny was a little
bit disappointing in game one. Was there any temptation of
starting from the bench because we have a fair bit
of success when he does.

Speaker 9 (14:48):
Yeah, Look, there's always consideration of everything, Gordy, and there's
a lot of conversations that happened throughout the week after
an origin, But Harry is a quality player, and to
be fair, I think Harry would be the first one
to put his hand up and say that he was
blow his own standard in game one. So certainly have
great faith in what Harry brings to a footy team,

(15:10):
and he'll be wearing the nine jersey, that's for sure, Billie.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
I asked this respectfully. Give him what you've achieved in
the game.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
But three straight losses, are you personally feeling any additional pressure?

Speaker 9 (15:23):
I always fear when you say I asked this respectfully
and respect question.

Speaker 8 (15:29):
But it's a really good question.

Speaker 9 (15:33):
And you know what, what's the opposite the pressure to
the opposite. The pressure to me is comfort and when
you're in your comfort zone, there's no growth, So you know,
I feel pressure is a privilege. I felt pressure when
I first took this role on and there's still pressure now.
Like it means a lot to us, it means a

(15:53):
lot to the players, and it means a lot to
the people of Queensland. So with that comes pressure. But
I'm okay with that. I'm okay with the position I'm in.
I'm here for the right reasons. I'm here to help
this group of players perform for a game of footy
and that's where my focus is.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
I love your mindset, I love your attitude. Billy, it's
always a pleasure having you on the show.

Speaker 8 (16:13):
Good luck for game two, pleasure, have a good night, guys.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
He is the great Billy Slater. He does have a
big challenge for Game two, but if anyone can do it,
it's him and the Queensland.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
That's a great question, Dog though, because I feel the
pressure too, Like it's sort of strange, you know what
I mean, Like the like I'm not because it's out
of your control. I think as a player, like you
probably get nervous and it's in your grasp and you
can go there. You can change the result. And Billy's
making decisions and we don't know whether they're right. But
I feel like we're under the pump. I feel like
you guys.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
Are coming to get from these too, Gord. He only
lose two or three games in Origin. It's not an
ural coach. We've got an entire season. You lose two
three games, you are under the pump.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
It's with Freddie right, and he's a cool one of
the coolest guys I play with. And it's and I
reckon it's it's the privilege that the whole state care.
There's so much that they want to know who's in
and out and what's happening and why.

Speaker 7 (17:03):
We lose them.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
It's such a great like it's a great job to have,
but there is a lot of pressure.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
I always thought as a player and looking at my
coaches over my career, the best coaches were the ones
that handled loss better than they handle wins.

Speaker 7 (17:16):
You know.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
It's quite easy for players and coaches in elite sports
to handle wins, you know, but it's how you respond
to losses. And I think the greats like you know,
Wayne and belly Ache and those guys, and they respond
to losses just as.

Speaker 7 (17:30):
Well as they respond to wins.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
They know how to handle loss, they know how to
move on the next week and resetting because.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
This is his biggest challenge. Billy is a winner.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
He's not used to losing in every aspect of his
life on and off the film, so this would be
a bit of a shock to him. And the heat
is on. You can't deny that, I think.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
On the flip side of that, though, Laurie Daily coming
back from his previous stint as the new South Wales
coach and the courage that he has shown to want
to take on this job again and get it done
like I think it speaks of the firing competitor in him.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
People don't realize, like we've watched Kevy Waders, we've watched Lri,
We've watched Brandy, We've watched guys that have been in Origin.
They've played it, but when they walk back in after
a series, it looks like like sometimes they look hoigh,
like it's just it's strained everything.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Out of them.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
All right, DC, let's discuss this. We've spoken about the
last couple of weeks. There were rumors Brent Reid broke it.
I think last Saturday, didn't he? DC looked like he
was going to be dropped. Do we agree with it
or don't.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
I think he had.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
I think he had to do it, and that's why
I did ask him respectfully, would he look back on
this series and wish that he would have gone with
Tom Didden first up? Because you said it the other night, Gordon.
They did come into this series on the back of
two losses. What they were doing wasn't working. I think
most people when you watched Origin one, the first real

(18:49):
angle that came out of that story was DCE under
fire and then Billy sat down on the Sunday Footy.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Show that week.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
He'd had four days to think about it, and he
still didn't give a clear answer, and thought to himself,
if he was going to back his captain here, he
would have come out and said it. He would have said,
how dare you accuse him? He's our leader, he's our captain.
We're taking him in. I think we knew at that
moment he was gone.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
We said it on the show.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
I asked Gory, I said, if he loses, and it's
a convincing loss in game one, will it be the
last time we.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
See him in our own jersey?

Speaker 7 (19:20):
And it pretty much is.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
You know.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
The first word that came to mind though, when he
dropped him was panic. Why well, he's picked him before
game one. God, that doesn't mean to be there for
all three games. I get that, but let me finish yet.
But then that's the lordy partner. I get that. I'm
saying to you, if you pick your captain, he's your leader,
he's your mentor, he's your playmaker, he's your kicker. You
have made your bed for the series of myrs. But

(19:44):
if you decide then to pick him for one game,
boot him to the gutter. I think that smacks of
on the concrete, smacks of panic. I think it's smacks
of leadership. I think everyone realized watching that game it
was the tough decision that had to be made. He
would have been sidestepping the issue to go forward. I

(20:05):
think they conceded, they've made it's come out and say it.
They did get, they got annihilate. He just spoke then too,
about about the honest conversations in the last twenty hours
or whatever, and that's what they need to do.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
Gordon. I asked you this too about your pack.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
How do they turn around what had happened the other day?
And I know you can't go out and put on
the big it's anymore. They've got to do something different
to try and rattle and upset the new South Wales team.

Speaker 4 (20:33):
Yeah, well they can't miss the start. It was probably
a glorified club game with the intensity that we went out,
especially on our home turf. I think Tino Moe and
our starting pack has to work really hard. We've got
to get it. We've got to get under their grill.
And it's not being ruffle and it's just actually.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
But it almost is when you get the Queens rivalry
controlled aggression.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
We've always had small packs, right, and we've gone there
and done the job against bigger names and much fancied sides.
And that's what this side has to do. The Gary
Larson type of performance. We need Them's your question.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Do you think the Queensland Pack have enough hard heads
and I've been real ruffians to cope with state of origin?

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Yes, because in origin one they.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
Look like a club side against a New South Wales side.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Which looked harder and they look like a representative side.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
No, and as I said, we're up against it. New
south Wales are in their prime Matte Marma, they've got
a really good footage side. It doesn't mean that we
can't compete with them. Doesn't mean that the seventeen guys.
I really like our bench. I think we didn't have
anything coming off the bench. So when we couldn't go
with you, we had nothing coming off the bench. I
just looked at the makeup of our side. It's a
better mix and we've got to go with you from
the start. All right, Cruel, you've had enough. You think

(21:47):
DCE should just announce where he's going next year?

Speaker 1 (21:50):
I do.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
I think that Daily Cherry Evans by playing in this
series put himself ahead of his club, I thought, and
I know it'd be a really tough position that he
was in to try and turn his back on Queensland.
But I thought, given that it is his final year
at Manly and this decision about where he plays next year,
it's dragged on and it's obviously affecting.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
DC's form because he's been up and down all season.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
So if it's affecting his form, it's affecting his club
and it's affecting Manly, and I think the fair thing
to do now would not be to drag it on
any further. He's just got to come out and let
us know where he's going.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
Is there a chance that Rusters can get cold feet here.

Speaker 5 (22:28):
Or I don't think so, Brath.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
I think the wheels are emotion months ago. I think
the deal's virtually done. Although you look at what the
Roosters have got coming through Smith Savala. Sam Walker's back
in an Ull this week, so look, they've got an
abundance of sixes and sevens.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Do they need sher Evans?

Speaker 3 (22:45):
They will be a better side for him being there,
but do they need him?

Speaker 2 (22:48):
Probably not.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
I think one of the things the Roosters do look
at is that in seven losses this year, on five
occasions they've actually led the game after sixty minutes, and
his game management and his experience, they kind of think,
if a guy like that was to come into our team,
we win a few more of those games.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
As the dust settles on the Bulldogs big win over Paramount,
the fallout from the signing of Lockey Galvin begins that film.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
What a Great Day to Be with You from a
core stadium.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Galvin storyline is a big one going into the game.

Speaker 8 (23:22):
I think he's going to come on and play in
the number seven or six.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
That means someone's had to move around. I'm in it
for a seventy lady cannabrillway the foxes Ta plays up
for Canna Bread with a stand short.

Speaker 8 (23:40):
Side and tier away for Canna Bread.

Speaker 6 (23:44):
Galvin will come on for big It kind of come
on and say play hooker, and I thought he was
joking for a second.

Speaker 7 (23:50):
Then he goes no, actually playing hook.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Get a number offlow and after turning trick by lines
a pray and fifteen nine fans come out like cheer
for a bodererra shows I.

Speaker 6 (24:09):
Love just to get the win with all these boys
have been so good to me the past week and
the club's building.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Something really special here and I'm loving a part of it.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
Channa Read win against Paramatta the tribal thirty points to twelve.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
That was the turning point.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
There's to Ashley and Martin medical hair sentence and it
was all roses at Bellmore or not a Belmore, but
at a course stadium where the dogs hemmered at the
paramatter eels Galvin come on. He was great off the
bench and at the top of the ladder. But we
didn't notice a few things. Watching the game yesterday you
could see there with the vision of Read Marney.

Speaker 7 (24:45):
He wasn't here.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
It is here. It wasn't happy at all.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
But by being taken off and he can it's visible.
And then even Sexton postmatch interview with us didn't even
know he was going to move to nine and the
new kid on the block ti him to go into
his position.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Of nine and played seven. It could be all smoke
and mirror.

Speaker 4 (25:05):
You're six, so you played six and aga hay mate
moved to thirteen.

Speaker 7 (25:12):
Honestly, yeah, I'd be filthy.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Yeah, like that's been honest. I love watching him win.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
I love watching him play yesterday and I thought that
was great and I think they can improve with Galvin.

Speaker 7 (25:20):
But if you're going to be.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Honest, if I'm Sextant and I'm playing, I'm coming first,
I'm the chief playmaker.

Speaker 7 (25:26):
We're winning the game.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
And then the new kid on the block comes out
and says, mate, you go to nine, I'm playing seven.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
You are filthy.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Even to contrast there with the vision of the entire
Canterbury team jumping over Lockie when he scores that try,
and the emotion of Cameron Serraldo in the coaching box
going up out of his chair. They're playing Paramatta, sitting
second last on the ladder and the coach has got.

Speaker 5 (25:49):
So much riding on this.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
And then you see the vision of Reid Marney in
the dressing room after a comprehensive win, kicking stones like
that that you can't hide what the real feeling was there.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
There was there was always going to be and we
said it.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
There was always going to be a four guy or
four guys in this like we we know that, and
I think Canterbury know that too, And unfortunately it's looking
like it's going to be read Marny and a positional
switch for Sexton after the weekend. Let's start with Read.
He didn't look happy. Let's you know that's obvious, right,
So is Read a chance of moving on? I know

(26:28):
next year? But before then, where's he out?

Speaker 5 (26:30):
Do we know it's possible?

Speaker 7 (26:31):
Bro.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
There's certainly a lot of rumors coming out of Belmore
that Reid is on the nose there. Whether it's to
do with his discipline in previous years, although he seems
to have picked up in that area.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
Come on, no, no, don't don't start that, don't start.
He's been one of the tenacious guys that's gone there.
They sign they had no one and he had been
the problems hard working guys, but was that paramatter they
were going really good?

Speaker 2 (26:51):
I mean I'd feel a little bit.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
It came from a Grand final, didn't he? He came
from a Grand final.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
He was one of the first Him and bat Burton
I think Ink by memory were the two real keys
signings to kick off this new era. He's gone through
the tough team times. He's he's been a part of
this side that has started the season on fire. Yes,
he's had his discipline problems, but as Gordy said he
plays with his heart on his sleeve and it would

(27:19):
have to be so destroying to be in his position
right now.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
And as to where he.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
Goes Avanes Movie Mine Movie, Michael said that there is
a suggestion that he may be moved on either next
year or later on this year.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
Clearly, Gordy, if he's been hooked, things aren't going great,
and not only hooked, but replaced it dummy half by
bloke is a halfbacker.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Didn't even know he's going to play dummy half allegedly.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
I can't believe that it's gone through his mind after
the game.

Speaker 5 (27:49):
Jeez, not been hooked.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
I've been hooked to play.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
In that, in that bulldog's environment, in that bulldog's culture.
How do the players separate that? Because look, it's obvious
that Cameron Surroundo has got the players on board and
he's made a call here, we're going to bring Locklan
Galvin into our team and it will make us a
better team. And for all those that remain in their
spots and remain a part of the starting side, you

(28:18):
can get on board, but then you've got good mates
that you've spilled blood with who potentially get pushed out
of the club.

Speaker 5 (28:24):
It would be so hard to separate.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
It would be you know, Kevin's around the center.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
He said, if the Galvin come into our club impacts
our culture and our team, then wasn't good enough before
he got here, right, So he's an exceptional coach and
he's got under control there.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
And you know, when you're a player, you hurt for
your mate, like you really do.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
It hurts you, it does, and you want to make
sure he's okay, But you also want to win premierships,
you know.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Because it's a little bit different though, isn't it to
a young kid coming through the grade and taking your spot.

Speaker 5 (28:54):
This sploke's come from the outside.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
It would sting. Yeah, it would sting.

Speaker 7 (28:58):
Now that's the reality of it.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
We can dance around it, and the dogs can too,
and that's all fine because they're going to be strong
enough and good enough to get through it. But the
fact of the matter is there's a couple of kids
that are probably hurting there at the moment.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
So it's excuse the pun, it's it's dog eat dog.

Speaker 7 (29:15):
It is.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
If a player comes along who is better, then they
existing gets the boot from the great dog himself. You
could see too with the way that Galvin straightens up
their attack and they just looked a better team straight
up and he runs it's first up.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
And that leads me to Sexton.

Speaker 7 (29:31):
Where will he land here?

Speaker 1 (29:33):
You know, the rumors straight away were that Galvin is
there to play seven. It took what sixty minutes for
him to get there. But does he I mean he's
been named this week with Burton in the Origin squad
all that, But in a two or three weeks time,
where do we see Sexton?

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Where do we see Galvin?

Speaker 3 (29:47):
Maybe maybe Cameron Serraldo showing his hand by playing him
at dummy half, Like if if one is to go
and read Marney gets pulled off the field the other
day and they have such a rap on young Bailey Hayward.
Sexton could play even for the remainder of this season,
that interchange role where if he can show that he's

(30:07):
comfortable that dummy half and he can come on and
fill in the halves, he keeps his place.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
I don't know, what do you think a key position.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
It's a specialist position.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
I don't think the Dogs would want to throw a
half back into their dummy half over the back end
of the season when they're running first.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
That's an enormous risk of off the bench. It's just
convenient for him yesterday. Given a situation, I think Mary's
got a start. They would go on to nine.

Speaker 7 (30:35):
If they need it.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
They wouldn't carry two halves in the team, sext and
he'll be the four guy. If they don't do what
they did yesterday going forward, they maybe they could stick
with Sexton and Burton and have Galvin off the bench.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
It's unlikely, but other than that, I think Sexton will
go Galvin feel uncomfortable. Do you think he would feel
awkward at this moment?

Speaker 3 (30:56):
He's coming to a side though he's clearly seeing other
players in the side or done a good job all
year getting their noses out of joint. He's walked in
off the street basically as a young brash kid. But
I'm just wonder with a deep down, is he feeling uncomfortable?

Speaker 6 (31:10):
You know what?

Speaker 1 (31:10):
I think he's shown a lot of courage to step
into that position with all the criticism, all the eyes
on him, the speculation, To perform the way that he
has and to fit into that team the way that
he has.

Speaker 5 (31:20):
Done was remarkable composure for a nine year old.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
What we saw there when he sat on the bench
for what was it, the fifty nine minutes or whatever,
and he looked nervous.

Speaker 5 (31:30):
He looked like he had the weight of the world.
He had a lot to prove, and he just went
out there, and he fitted like a glove.
