Dans les collections du château de Chantilly, au nord de Paris, se trouve le livre manuscrit le plus célèbre au monde, la Joconde des manuscrits : Les très riches heures du Duc de Berry.
Le Duc de Berry était un prince très puissant en France au début du XVe siècle, c’était aussi un grand collectionneur de pierres précieuses et de livres, particulièrement de livres d’heures, ces livres qui indiquent les prières, heure par heure, jour par jour, tout au long de l’année.
Avoir un tel livre, décoré spécialement pour soi est un signe de prestige.
Le Duc de Berry en commande un aux peintres néerlandais, les trois frères de Limbourg en 1411. C’est ce livre dont on a séparé les pages pour les restaurer que nous sommes allés voir samedi soir dernier, en famille, à l’occasion d’une nocturne.
