Returning to studying later in life can be difficult, some people find it hard to focus, they don't structure their day, so they have time to do work, home life and study. It is not like it was when they were a child then they had a structured day, which helped give them focus and there was a teacher who could hold you accountable and issue consequences if they did not work.
