Speaker 1 (00:17):
Funtriots, Hey, Patriots Nation, Welcome to the Patriots Pregame Show
fueled by Duncan.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
Good evening, everyone, Welcome to the Patriots Pregame Show fueled
by Duncan.

Speaker 5 (00:31):
So much to get into.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
The Patriots in Buffalo to face on the Buffalo Bills
and the raigning League MVP Josh Allen. Of course, Paul Parello, induce,
I'm Kwannie, and we have so much to look forward
to tonight.

Speaker 6 (00:44):
Sure do big game national audiences.

Speaker 7 (00:45):
Been a while since the Patriots have played a game
like this in front of the national audience, So it's exciting.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
It's been a while since I got a chance to
do some red zone work.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
And I gotta say I was telling you both offline
earlier that the Broncos win today inspired me. I think
that the Patriots are able to pull off a upset.

Speaker 6 (01:04):
Well, well, you're gonna have to play well.

Speaker 7 (01:06):
I mean, that's a tough place to play and you
know that's they're a great team. They've been They've won
the division the last five years. So but as everyone's
been saying, and I'm almost kind of getting stick of it,
chance for a measuring stick. See always stack up against
the Bills, So let it fly, get out there.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
So, Mike, were you surprised at all?

Speaker 8 (01:21):
We talked a little bit about this during the week
Kwannie on Patriots on Filter.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Just how much Mike Rabel embraced that.

Speaker 8 (01:28):
You know that it was an opportunity, you know, to
show show everybody our identity and show the progress and
it's a gauge game and all that.

Speaker 7 (01:35):
Well, I mean, I know Mike g Reese reported it,
but we also saw at firsthand as we were walking
back from our wonderful lunch that we had on Friday.

Speaker 6 (01:42):
It's a little tradition that I that.

Speaker 7 (01:43):
I've glommed onto with Paul and the Finance department going
to Red rob But we were walking back through the
Blue Gate, which is the gate underneath the bridge here
at Jillette Stadium, and we heard shout going like this
is at near the end of the Patriots practice and.

Speaker 6 (01:58):
Im an idiot.

Speaker 7 (01:58):
I've never been up to Buffalo so I didn't fully grasped, like, oh,
that's the Buffalo song. So I think you're right, Paul now,
but I look at that point, was like, that's what
they play at the time, so you.

Speaker 6 (02:10):
Can tell that they are embracing it.

Speaker 7 (02:12):
And I also saw, you know, Reese reported that that
guys were in the locker room. I didn't hear anybody
ask him what their predictions were, but they were going around.

Speaker 6 (02:18):
I did. As I was walking out, I heard Christian
Barmol was kind of walking by him and he's like
Josh Allen.

Speaker 7 (02:23):
Like just saying his name, And I'm like, all right, well,
these guys are are locked in. We'll, you know, we'll
see how it translates tonight. But you always take the
advantage of the chance to play the underdog card, and
I think the Patriots can do that time.

Speaker 8 (02:35):
But I just was surprised with how much he you know,
I know that, I mean, they eight and a half
point underdogs, so obviously they're underdogs, but how much he
was willing to say, yeah, it's not just week five,
like you know, Belichick, but have snorted into.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
The mic.

Speaker 8 (02:51):
Buffalo yeah, you know, like no, Mike is like, no,
this isn't just another game. This isn't the same as
Carolina was last week, and it's not the same as
New Orleans will be next week. Yeah, it's a bigger game,
and usually coaches don't do that, So I was a
little surprised, but that how much he embraced the fact that, yes,
it's a chance to be in the national spotlight, and
we're going to be jacked up for it.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
We're going to be ready to go.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Yeah, to that point, coming off of a win last week,
I think you do want to keep that juice.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
That energy alive.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
So that's actually the perfect mentality I have going into
week five saying all right, yes, we know this is
an undefeated team at this point, but what are we
going to do to stop them?

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (03:27):
Absolutely, And you know, I just say, look, I've covered
a few seasons now, starting to know what it's like
to be around the team a little bit and going
into that locker room on Friday, and you know, talking
to Jack Gibbons last week about that, there's.

Speaker 6 (03:39):
Good vibes on this team right now.

Speaker 7 (03:40):
It's just it seems like they're really coming together. They're
buying into what the coaching staff is selling, and you
never know for sure if it's going to translate. But
I've certainly been in locker rooms on a Friday before
a game where it's quiet and doesn't really feel like
you know, But it was different this week.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
You went in.

Speaker 7 (03:56):
There was an energy from the second you walked in,
and you could tell maybe it's a little bit what
you know Paul's talking about, of taking on that underdog
mentality and really leaning into it.

Speaker 6 (04:04):
So again, though, you can.

Speaker 7 (04:06):
Have all these little angles you want, but ultimately you've
got to go out there on the field and play
a really good Buffalo Bills team in a hostile environment.

Speaker 5 (04:12):
One hundred percent agree.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
And the big conversation all throughout the week is, of
course the matchup of the quarterbacks, Josh Allen versus Drake May.
What are you hoping to see on both sides of
the ball for these teams today?

Speaker 7 (04:22):
Well, for the I mean for the Patriots offense, I
think it's just continue to build on what you've been doing.
I really like the progress they've made, but you just
you can't regress this week. You can't go back to
the five turnovers that they had against the Steelers. You've
got to continue, just as a baseline to be competitive
in this game, you cannot turn the ball over, especially
at that kind of volume. The Bills aren't going to
turn the ball over a lot. They're not going to

(04:43):
give you a lot of extra chances. So the Patriots
have to make sure they're there. That's the start of
it for me, is just make sure you're clean on offense.
Don't give them any extra possessions because they'll make it pay.

Speaker 8 (04:51):
You certainly have to expect Josh Allen to play well
because general terms, that's what the MVP does. Yeah, so
you can't sit there and say, well, we you know,
hope we we'll catch them on an off night and if
that happens, great, that should enhance your chances of winning.
But you're gonna need to match and so I'm looking
for Drake May to do what Mike said first and
foremost and protect the football. But more importantly to me,

(05:13):
I'm looking for him to throw the ball more often
in this game. And I don't think they can expect
to throw the ball seventeen times the way they did
last week and score forty two points. I don't think
that's realistic. So I think it's going to be incumbent
on May to make some good decisions, make some big plays,
probably convert some third downs with his legs. I'm looking
to him to see him be a little bit more

(05:34):
involved as a running tonight as well.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Well, we still have so much more to talk to,
including our keys. But before that, I have a question
for the two of you. Did you wake up this
morning and think today was a good day for value?

Speaker 6 (05:45):
No, not specifically, but.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
Well I'll tell you why. Because of value.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
You just got a baking egg and cheese sandwich at
Hash Browns and a coffee all for six dollars. And actually,
no joke, I actually had this value meal this morning
headed to a WNBA event. But yes, it's as good
as it sounds. You could order now only at Duncan.
No substitutions. Participation and times may vary. Offer prices very
in California and Hawaii. Limited time offer cannot be combined

(06:11):
with other offers. Exclusions and terms apply.

Speaker 7 (06:14):
I would say I've had I'm definitely feeled by Duncan.
Right now, I have my latte tonight, so I will
be flying right through the postgame show thanks to that
latte that I just sucked down.

Speaker 5 (06:22):
Well, now this late is gonna help us, because it's
time for the keys of the game.

Speaker 7 (06:26):
You've waited all week for the whole team's in the
locker room right now, just listening to this, waiting to
hear what you're gonna say.

Speaker 9 (06:32):
Here are this week's keys to the game.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
All right, the pressure's on. Who wants to go first.

Speaker 6 (06:39):
I'm gonna tea Paul Us. I think Paul's already you
already kind of hinted at yours.

Speaker 8 (06:42):
Like, I just don't think that you can expect to
the formula for Drake May. So far the best two
games he had with Miami and Carolina, and both of
those games they throw the ball buck twenty times. And
I just don't think that you can score enough points
to beat Buffalo by doing that.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
And I know they scored forty two last week doing that.

Speaker 8 (06:59):
I think, you know, we talked a lot all week
about the punt returns, and you know Carolina is helping
of the cause. I think they're going to need to
lean on Drake May a little bit tonight, and I
think the Josh macgenials needs to embrace that let it fly,
just go out and let the kid make some plays
on the national spotlight.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
This could be his coming out party. I think it's
going to be.

Speaker 8 (07:20):
On the offense to go out and win this game tonight,
and I think to try to do it. You know,
like I said, if you catch up Josh Allen in
a bad night, maybe he throws a couple of picks,
maybe he fumbles one of those. When he's running. He
always runs it a little recklessly. Maybe tonight's the night
that he turns the ball over. I would almost rather
hit this, not be the n id turns it over.
I'd rather see the offense sort of match drive for

(07:42):
drive with Josh Allen. And I think I think they
need to let Drake May do that.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Let it fly.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
Yeah, I love it.

Speaker 7 (07:48):
I mean I try to pick something complimentary and for me,
it's fine the stops and I'm not sure exactly where
the stops are against this offense, but it's one of
those games where you just need to take each possess
as its own thing. And you know, maybe they get
a holding penalty that puts them in a little bit
of yard long yardage. You got to find a way
to get some stops on Josh Allen.

Speaker 6 (08:09):
Is not easy thing to do.

Speaker 7 (08:10):
I'd start right off the top of the game, where
the Bills have opened every one of their four games
with an opening drive touchdown. The Patriots have allowed an
opening drive touchdown on three of their four games, and
on the other one it was the second and third drive.
So the Patriots haven't started fast on defense. The Bills
consistently start fast on offense. And I think you're going
to get an immediate kind of sense of did the

(08:31):
Patriots have something in the tank tonight or is it
going to be another one of those games where as
Jack Gibbons said to us, we start slow, somebody then
makes a play and then we start to play.

Speaker 6 (08:41):
As much as I say.

Speaker 7 (08:41):
You don't want to wait around, it's going to be
one of those games where maybe they do get into
a seven to nothing hole right out of the gate.
But I think this team has the mentality of, all right,
we got to just keep playing. But as the course
of the game unfolds, you've got to find a way,
whether it's turnovers, whether it's negative plays, you just have
to find ways to get off the field against this guy.
And it's you know, it's almost like going against Peyton

(09:02):
Manning back in the day, where you knew you're going
to kind of go toe to toe with the guy,
and the game was going to be decided on the
one or two stops that you're able to get.

Speaker 6 (09:10):
Who's going to win those? So for me, find the
stops against Josh Allen not easy to do.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
Yeah, and minus similar it kind of plays off of yours.
It's collect the bills. But to your point, they can't
afford to have a slow start start, they can't afford
to leave any points on the field. We know they
need to clean up their game overall. We talked about turnovers,
we talked about the penalties. We've talked about all these
things over the last few weeks. But at the end
of the day, you know that this defense and this
offense is going to be as lockdown as they need

(09:35):
to be. So find ways to infiltrate that and collect
the points as you go so that you can win
this one.

Speaker 7 (09:41):
Yeah, well, you know what, I just to comment one
point I kind of like from Vrabel is when you
point out things like the penalties or the slow starts,
it's you know, those things can happen in any game.
And even though it's a trend right now with this
team that you're trying to get right maybe you get
it right for a month or two, but maybe there's
a game in January or December that you need to
have that you have a slow start and you have
to be able to overcome it. So I don't think

(10:01):
he puts too much weight on these things as like
this is what's going to be our demise.

Speaker 6 (10:06):
You certainly don't want to start slow, but.

Speaker 7 (10:07):
At the same time, you've got to be able to
overcome a slow start, because they do.

Speaker 8 (10:10):
That's what he keeps pointing out is our ability to
sort of put the bad stuff behind us quickly and
move on from it.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
And they have been able to do that for the
most part.

Speaker 8 (10:18):
They haven't really had, you know, a lot of long
periods of bad play. They've had some stretches here and there,
but they've done a pretty good job of getting over it,
you know. Just to piggyback on your point though about
you know, the Bills scored a touchdown on the first drive.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
They've also scored in the first drive of the second half.

Speaker 8 (10:36):
Every game, and three three or four of those were
touchdowns one field goal, So seven out of their eight
opening drives of halves have have resulted in touchdowns. Pages
defense better be ready to go, you know, no waiting
into this one. They got to be ready to go.

Speaker 6 (10:52):
Spencer Brown back in the lineup, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Yeah we should. We should mention the enactors.

Speaker 8 (10:56):
Really no, I mean that we already knew Calebon Chasing
was out, So no surprises for the Patriots. Yes, everybody,
Efton Chisholm is inactive again.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Thanks for the updated But yeah.

Speaker 8 (11:08):
The more sort of important ones or on the Bills,
h Ed Oliver is not not going to make it
in this one, and that's a big that's a big
blow for for that interior defensive line. He's a very
versatile guy, can get after the passer, plays the run
reasonably well. Also, uh so that's a big loss for
the middle of their aligned But Spencer Brown, their starting

(11:30):
right tackle who missed last week's game with the cap injury,
is up, as is Matt Mlano. They're pretty versatile inside
linebacker who's been out the last couple of weeks. Also,
so he's he's in this one at least to start.
We'll see how long you can go.

Speaker 10 (11:44):
Yeah, couple, just I find out way no one cares
about but I do I No one cares about the
Giants one cares about Boston College.

Speaker 6 (11:56):
Uh so, just you know. A couple of notes though.

Speaker 7 (11:59):
Jerry Wilson back in the lineup after missing last week,
so he'll Mike Rabel announced that on Friday that he'll
be back in the Lineupton Williams good to go, had
an ankle injury, miss Thursday practice.

Speaker 6 (12:09):
Carlton Davis good to go.

Speaker 7 (12:10):
He had an illness as well, and Julini Tavia is
going to be up, so he was just activated. He's
going to be in. I wonder if he's going to
be part of the plan to replace Chase On. Like
Fable's talk this week about how his versatility was a
big part of why he wanted to keep Tavai around.
Suffered a calf injury in the summer, never really got
a chance to get out there. But you know, first
full week back, he's right in the mix, and with

(12:32):
Chase On out, I wouldn't be surprised to see him
get some action.

Speaker 8 (12:35):
I have a weird take that Chase On being out
in this particular game might not be the worst thing. Yeah,
I agree, and it's because I think he's a little
bit aggressive, gets up field and loses the edge. I
think Anthony Jennings in a more full time role as
a physical edgesetter might might actually be better against James Cook.

Speaker 7 (12:53):
Yeah, and just if they plan is to try to
keep Josh Allen contained a little bit, if they try
to do that.

Speaker 8 (12:58):
Kind of thing, then they'll they'll miss chase On a
little bit, see, because he can run them down.

Speaker 6 (13:03):
And I don't think, yeah, now that's that's fair.

Speaker 7 (13:05):
I just also wonder I've seen plenty of Chase On
kind of flying by the quarterback.

Speaker 6 (13:09):
You know, maybe break and contain a little bit. It's
you know, a fair point.

Speaker 7 (13:12):
Patriots don't have great depth at the edge position, and
you know, whether it's Tavai or key On White or Jennings,
like he said, you know, they're missing a little bit
of pass rushed juice against Josh Allen. You need every
little bit you can get. So yeah, we'll see how
it plays out.

Speaker 6 (13:26):
But I'm interested to see Tova and is he ready
to jump into a role. Is he maybe just gonna
get eased in a little bit.

Speaker 7 (13:32):
But you know, the last couple of games at the
off the ball linebacker position you had next displaying it's
been a little bit of a roll off revolving door
so maybe Tova gets into that mix tonight too.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
And we talked about Cook.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
I know we're gonna go behind enemy line soon, but
what do you want to see from the Patriot? Who
do you want to see on the Patriots combat him
in his run game?

Speaker 6 (13:49):
Right now?

Speaker 7 (13:50):
Well, I mean I almost start with the scheme of
the Patriots really playing you know, light front with with
mil Williams, Christian Barmore, and we talked about potentially to
have Jennings in there. I think he's a good player,
like Paul said, he's a sturdy edge defender. But we
talked all week the Patriots play a lot of nickel defense.
They don't want to, you know, have seven guys in
the box and just play four against Josh Allen. It's

(14:11):
a hard ask for them. So they've got to be
stout upfront. And you know there's been times when there's
been some space inside to run and against James Cook,
he will make you pay. I mean, this team has
really transformed itself with James Cook and the under center
stuff they're doing. Even last year it almost seemed like
running the ball was kind of a secondary thought to them,
and this year with Joe Brady, it seems like they've

(14:32):
really rounded out this offense and you see how much
problems it's giving defenses.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Absolutely well, overall, we know that confidence is gonna be
a key for the Patriots tonight, and they're gonna need
to roll like some Bridgestone tires. Confidence it's important to
have when you're on the road and with Bridgestone tires
on your car, truck, suv or a minivan, you're riding
on tires you can trust. Bridgestone tires are engineered to
give you peace of mind so that you can focus
on actually just enjoying the journey. So whether you're on

(14:58):
your morning mute or heading to jil or watch party tonight,
across country road trip, or a relaxing Sunday drive, Ridgetone
Tires will be with you wherever life's roads may lead.
Ridge Stone Solutions for your journey available now at Sullivan Tire.
All right, well, we're getting some calls in right now.
I know we're gonna eventually go behind Endy lines to
talk to a Buffalo Bills reporter, but let's hear what

(15:20):
Christian in La has to say.

Speaker 5 (15:21):
Until then, are faithful?

Speaker 8 (15:25):
Hi?

Speaker 5 (15:25):
Christian?

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Hey, Hey, hey, hey, hey, how you got it doing good.

Speaker 6 (15:29):
Good.

Speaker 11 (15:29):
You got a night game.

Speaker 12 (15:30):
Yeah, we got a.

Speaker 13 (15:31):
Little night game out there.

Speaker 12 (15:32):
And I think it's going to be one.

Speaker 13 (15:33):
Of those games where it's really determined by the linebacker
play sideline to sideline.

Speaker 12 (15:39):
I see all our.

Speaker 11 (15:40):
D back able to keep their keep their receivers.

Speaker 12 (15:43):
Toute of a in check.

Speaker 13 (15:45):
I know that that running game is kind of you know,
James Cook, but not so much at the middle sideline,
the sideline, and of course Josh Allen if you can
force him, you know, sidelight the sideline. I think that's
where the game is going to be one and lost.

Speaker 6 (15:57):
Thanks Christian, we'll see. It's just there's so much to
There's so much that they can do.

Speaker 7 (16:02):
It's hard for me to really point to one thing
because I feel like if you take one thing away
from them, they're perfectly capable of going to options B
and C and being almost equally effective.

Speaker 8 (16:11):
And we talked about this a little bit during the
week too, and I know that you could sit there
and say, well, everybody's just been playing back and letting
them run and they're getting thirty points a game. I
think if you want to try to take James Cook
out of this game and you're saying, let's let Josh
Allen be I think that's suicide. But I just don't
really understand why, Like I'm gonna let the lesser player

(16:32):
beat me if I mean, I'm not telling you James
Cook stinks.

Speaker 3 (16:35):
I think he's really good.

Speaker 8 (16:36):
Yeah, but I would rather lose that way than have
Josh Allen throw for four hundred yards. It's like if Josh,
if they want to throw Josh Allen twenty two times,
and he's gonna throw for two hundred and twenty yards,
which is kind of what he's been doing. Okay, now
I'm probably gonna have a chance because maybe in the
red zone they're not gonna be able to run it
in once. You know, I just think that if you're

(16:58):
just gonna sit back and let Josh Allen and throw
the ball downfield, on you, right, I don't think.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
That's a recipe for success.

Speaker 7 (17:04):
It's just gonna stack the box and challenge Josh Allen
to throw down field?

Speaker 5 (17:08):
Are you nuts?

Speaker 8 (17:09):
Like I know that he doesn't have the greatest set
of receivers, but you know, Shakier Kincaid and I think
Coleman is a good vertical threat at times like that,
they're good enough.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
You know, the view from New England, but what about
the view from the other side?

Speaker 3 (17:24):
And that's why you're our favorite pregame show guests.

Speaker 11 (17:27):
Yeah, every year, and you know you tell everybody that
I was on with you guys at twenty eighteen Thursday
Night Football.

Speaker 6 (17:33):
Yeah, and I was bowed out with the favorite game
for the show.

Speaker 9 (17:35):
No, No, it's time now to go behind enemy lines.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
God, it's not a right one.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
I love that open too. All right, we're welcoming in now.
Jay Skersky from the Buffalo.

Speaker 5 (17:46):
News in Buffalo. Obviously, thank you for giving us some
time right before the game.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Yeah, of course, thank you for having me.

Speaker 4 (17:53):
Well, we know that Buffalo have had a dominant season
so far, but what are some offensively specifically, but what
are some things that the Patriots do you think defensively
should take advantage of this in this game tonight.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
Yeah, that's a great question because if you know, I
was listening here on hold before you went to me,
and you made some good points there about you know
they can if you load up the box and stop
streaming James Cook. Well, you know, Josh Allen is more
than capable of beating you. And if you go with
a light box to you know, to defend the receivers.
Then James Cook has shown an ability to run the

(18:27):
ball really at the top of the league in terms
of running back production, or very close to it, at
least through the first four games. So they are a
tough challenge. There's a reason that they've scored thirty points
and in every one of their games this season, they
seem to have the answers for just about anything that
defensive coordinators throw at them. I would agree with the
idea that they're you know, the talent at wide receiver

(18:49):
is maybe not at the level certainly of some other
teams around the conference, but the Bills don't really care
about that because they spread the ball out so much. So,
you know, it's really hard to say, you know, you
need to focus on this one thing to stop Buffalo offensively,
because if you do that, they've got other ways to
beat you.

Speaker 7 (19:06):
Jay, we've been talking all week about how the Bills
offense has evolved, and you've seen more of James Cook,
You've seen more under center. From what you've seen, what
steps have they taken this year? What are they doing
different on the offensive side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
Well, I mean they're relying on Cook more certainly. You know,
you look at the last two weeks and Ray Davis,
who's their number two running back, a second, your veteran
I think, has gotten one carry in that time, and
so it's really become the James Cook show on the
ground and for good reason. As I mentioned earlier there,
you know, he's playing at a level that very few
running backs in the league can compete with. And you know,
one of the things one of the strengths for the

(19:41):
Bills that I don't think gets talked about enough is
their offensive line. They are really really good upfront. They've
had a veteran group that's been together for a long time.
They know how to play with each other, and we
know that Josh Allen when the line maybe does break down,
you know, his probably his best moments are you know,
off scripts, right, So that's that's another area of their offense,

(20:03):
but I think has really helped them. But in terms
of you know, what they're doing differently or new, I
would say, other than maybe relying on Cook a bit
more than they have in the past, it's pretty much
Josh Allen's offense and he's been running it a long time.
So they don't see the need to change anything for
good reason.

Speaker 8 (20:18):
Hey, we've you know, sort of gotten used to buffalo
the last let's just call it the Sean McDermott and
you know Josh Allen era. The defense, you know, looks
at times like the numbers aren't always the best. You
look like you can run on them, but at the
end of the day, they generally keep the points down.
What has been you know, the situation so far the
first month of the season. What do your thoughts on

(20:39):
the defense in general? Is it as bad as the
numbers say against the run or is that deceiving?

Speaker 4 (20:45):
No?

Speaker 2 (20:46):
I think you know, they've certainly had their issues at
the run game, and you know, quarterback scrambles have really
hurt them. And I know that Drake May that's certainly
a part of his game. So I have something I'm
sure that that's something that New England may be looking at,
is getting him out and using his legs at times.
You know, this is a defense that is rebuilding in
a lot of ways. They've got a lot of new pieces,
they've got a lot of injured players. They're getting a

(21:06):
couple of those back today, Matt Mlono specifically, but at
Oliver is still out. He's you know, probably their best
defensive tackle and he's missed four games now. They've got
some players that are suspended who aren't back yet. So
I think that, you know, the first month of the
season has shown that this is a defense that's kind
of trying to find its way, quite frankly, and isn't
quite there just yet. I mean, it's certainly the area

(21:28):
of the ball that the Bills and Bill's fans here
in Buffalo are most concerned about right now. And so
you know, I think, you know, Craig Russo at pass rusher,
you'd like to see more from him at times. So
I think they've had a fair share of issues defensively.
Third downs have been a problem. The one thing though,
that they do well is they take the ball away.
And you know, if you're New England coming into this

(21:50):
game knowing that you're probably going to have to play
pretty close to a perfect game to beat Josh Allen,
they can't turn it over. And that's something that the
Bill's defense has time and time again found a way
to come up with that big take when they need it.

Speaker 6 (22:02):
Jay just gonna ask you about the receivers and tight ends.

Speaker 7 (22:04):
I mean, it seems like you said they're not like
number one per se, but it seems like Josh Allen
is pretty comfortable thrown.

Speaker 6 (22:10):
To just about all of those guys.

Speaker 7 (22:12):
Of the receivers and tight ends, which one do you
think is the biggest strength of this team? If you
had if the Patriots were trying to take away one guy,
is there a specific one guy you would focus on.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
I think Khalil Shakir is their best, most consistent receiver. He's,
you know, Josh Allen's kind of trusted receiver. He's the
guy he's thrown to the most. He's the slot receiver,
excellent contact balance, he's really really hard to bring down
with the first tackle, and if you watched any of
the game last week against the Saints, you saw that
it takes a really short pass and ends up, you know,
forty five fifty yards later he's in the end zone.

(22:42):
So I think Shakiro is probably their most consistent receiver.
I think Dalton Kincaid has proven to be a weapon
this year. You know, three touchdowns already receiving touchdowns, and
another play was stopped at the one yard line, so
he almost has four receiving touchdowns at this point. He's
really developed nicely in his third year. I think the
offense kind of the passing offense kind of goes through
those those two guys, and then after that, you know.

(23:06):
Kean Coleman has shown some inconsistency, but he's had some
particularly in Week one against Baltimore he had a really
big game. Josh Palmer has made a couple of plays
here and there, but I think if you're relying on
two guys for Allen, it's secure first and then Kincaid Jay.

Speaker 8 (23:20):
I'm just curious what the you know, what the mood
is in Buffalo. Around here this has been you know,
Mike Vrabel hasn't been afraid to sort of embrace the
fact that this is a big game for the Patriots
and they're rebuilding process and using it as a measuring stick.
I'm just curious, what is it being portrayed as in Buffalo?
Is it just business as usual?

Speaker 14 (23:42):
It is?

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Yeah, I mean, honestly, I don't mean this to say
that the Bills are looking past New England, but you know,
the mood in Buffalo right now is solely focused out
the number one seed and looking at what else is
playing out in the conference, with Baltimore struggling in Kansas
City getting off to a too, you know, a tough start.
The goal for the Bills this season is the number
one seed. Now, obviously, the way that you get that

(24:03):
is you've got to keep winning, and so along with that,
They're not overlooking any opponents, certainly, But I don't know that,
you know, it's it's much different than a Patriots week
in the past. Obviously, you know, the rivalry has kind
of you know, it's been flipped here the last you know,
few seven years, eight years, whatever you want to say
that Josh Allen era. So it's not that they're overlooking
New England, but it is I think the mood in

(24:24):
Buffalo is focused on the long term view and like
I said, that number one seed in the AFC.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
Day before we go, Stefan Diggs returning to the Stomping Grounds.
What do you think this game will be like from
the Buffalo perspective for him?

Speaker 2 (24:37):
Yeah, I think it'd be I'm interested to see the
reaction that he gets.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
Right.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
I don't think there should be a real hard feelings
on either side. I think that the you know the
relationship between the Bills and Stefan Diggs. It ended however
it ended, but I think it was mutually beneficial for
both sides. Stephan Diggs played great, great football while he
was here in Buffalo. I think he helped Josh Allen
a lot when he was a younger quarterback in his career.
You're the same way that Allen I think helped Digs

(25:02):
and so I think it'll be emotional for Diggs. I
would expect him to have a very fine game. I
don't think that he's going to take over the game
by any stretch, but you know, I think he'll make
some of his plays and I think, you know, they'll
be a smattering of booze, or maybe even a majority
of booze, but they're also rightfully, I think in my
mind there'll be a fair amount of cheers for him too.

(25:23):
I think there's an appreciation for what he was able
to accomplish when he.

Speaker 15 (25:26):
Was in Buffalo.

Speaker 5 (25:27):
Absolutely, Jay, thank you so much for your time.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Yeah, thank you for having me.

Speaker 5 (25:31):

We were just talking to Jay from Buffalo about some

(27:30):
of the things to expect. Business game, business as usual
for them. They're not really looking at this game the
way the Patriots seemed to be.

Speaker 7 (27:36):
No, and Paul could probably speak to it more than
I could, but this was how it was for the
Patriots for a long time, when you.

Speaker 6 (27:41):
Know, upstart building.

Speaker 8 (27:42):
This is why I felt like that when we talked
about it during the week, when Fred was trying to
tell me, like here footsteps, Like when the Patriots went
and lost to Ryan Fitzpatrick in Buffalo, you know, and
I think Buffalo was like three and one or four
and one at the time. They were all excited. The
Patriots yawned and said, Okay, that's cute because they were
they were the big you know, the kingpin, and they

(28:04):
didn't they didn't really worry about these games, no as much.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
This is business as usual.

Speaker 7 (28:09):
Yeah, I just you know, there's wonder as it come
to bite you in the butt, or you know, I
think the Bills are too talented and the Patriots are
really going to have to, you know, bring their own juice,
bring their own energy tonight, as you you know, you see,
like I mean, there's just something about Buffalo.

Speaker 6 (28:22):
It's I think I'm going to kind of miss this
stadium this very well.

Speaker 7 (28:26):
Barring a trip to the playoffs there, this would be
the last time the Patriots play here and in this
old stadium.

Speaker 8 (28:30):
But it's I won't miss well that's spoken by someone
who's never been.

Speaker 7 (28:35):
Right as old thrown at you absolutely dump yeah cans of.

Speaker 6 (28:43):
But you know I just did as we watched Drake
May here warming up.

Speaker 7 (28:46):
I've just remembered over the last couple of years some
of the big games that have been up there, the
playoff game, and uh, you know, just credit to the
Bills fans. They make it a really hard place to play.
And you can see the atmosphere is already getting going.
It's a white out theme tonight, so a little extra
juice there for the Bills fans. With the rivalry jerseys
making their debut for the Bills.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
You know that we saw that they were able to
get that win in Miami. Obviously not as strong as
a rival as Buffalo, But what do you think the
atmosphere in Buffalo, will you know, affect could affect this?

Speaker 6 (29:14):
Yeah, I mean I think maybe a little bit.

Speaker 7 (29:17):
The fans I think probably have a little bit more
for Drake than they do for Tua because the Bills
are pretty handled to it pretty easily, and now there's
a little bit of buzz for Drake May and the Patriots.
So I think that the Bills want to get on
that quick and they want to let Drake May know
that he's no Josh Allen and all that stuff. So
I'm sure they'll bring it tonight. National TV Audience Sunday night.
They've had all day, like wat waiting All Blues.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
Your thoughts about All Blues. I know how much you
hate them.

Speaker 7 (29:43):
I like the contrast. I like the contrast. Well, you know,
it's funny, Paul, when they win in them, I kind.

Speaker 6 (29:47):
Of like them a little bit more win.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
So I feel like you've grown a little just.

Speaker 6 (29:55):
A little bit. But I yeah, we'll see.

Speaker 7 (29:58):
I mean, great, great opportunity tonight for them to get
out there and look, if it doesn't go great right now,
if Josh Allen and his offense come out there and
they're humming and they get a couple of touchdowns and
the game kind of unfolds not in the Patriots favor,
it's I don't think it's.

Speaker 6 (30:11):
Going to be the end of the world either.

Speaker 7 (30:12):
I've seen plenty of results today that you know, a
lot of teams battling up and down, and then the
Patriots will just have to continue to fight. But you know,
right now, is going into the game, you just you
hope that they're going to go in there and throw
some haymakers on these guys.

Speaker 8 (30:24):
Yeah, I just think that it's it's kind of an
open league, you know. And I think the AFC is
really good. I think there's some really good teams in
the AFC. But I think what you're starting to see,
and it's still early, you know, we're just week five,
but you're starting to see that like there's no like
maybe Buffalo is it, you know, I don't know. Maybe

(30:44):
we don't think of Buffalo as as much. We don't
think as highly of Buffalo maybe as the rest of
the league does because we're division rivals and we don't
necessarily see it the same way, but you know, Baltimore
certainly had their problems with personnel and the defense and stuff.
So they in Cincinnati a little bit of a pushback
in the fourth quarter. At least they got some offense going,

(31:06):
but they look like they're in disarray without Joe Burrow.
A team that I would worry about maybe being on
the rise, I would say. One more team that I
would say that you kind of thought a lot of
that you worry about is the Chargers. You know, you're seeing,
you know, even good teams, when they lose that that
amount of personnel, it's hard to overcome it. And even
Justin Herbert, who's been really really good through the first

(31:27):
five weeks of the season, is having a hard time
with no protection. The team that I would worry about
a little bit that no one really talks about Mike
is Denver, who went to Philly and put a you know,
really first first loss for Philadelphia since last December. I
think it was almost like two hundred and fifty days
since their last loss. So down seventeen to three heading

(31:47):
into the fourth quarter, they rally, they go for two,
they get it, So you.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
Know that that Denver defense is pretty legit.

Speaker 7 (31:55):
That's what I was going to say. The Denver defense
is definitely, you know, a point of strength. Whereas we
talked about it with the Bills defense, we talked about
it with the Patriots defense. You look at the stats,
it kind of lines up a certain way. And Denver's defense,
I feel like they're good. I don't know for sure
what Buffalo's defense is quite yet. I don't know for
sure what the Patriots defense is.

Speaker 3 (32:15):
So I'll tell you one thing I forgot about.

Speaker 8 (32:17):
And when Jay brought that up, and I'm trying to
find the names now because I I the guys that
are suspended. There's two with it free agent additions that
that won't play until week seven that they suspended the
first six weeks. The guy from the Rams there, the
defensive lineman. Why can I not think of his name?

Speaker 7 (32:37):
Michael Hued and Joby Yeah, those two defense defense van defensive.

Speaker 8 (32:42):
Yeah, and the height is it he hate.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
I don't know how to pronounce his name. He's a
good player.

Speaker 8 (32:52):
And that was a good young defensive front that the
Rams had. Obviously they couldn't keep them all that that
defense could get better too, yeah, you know, and you know, once,
once those guys get acclimated, maybe the second half of
the season, I would expect Buffalo to be a little
bit better.

Speaker 7 (33:08):
Joey Bosa to a name that's been added to the mix,
and yeah, you know, yeah has some pass rushed juice
for sure.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
All Right, we're getting some phone calls.

Speaker 4 (33:16):
Let's hear what Will in Kentucky has to say.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
What's up Will?

Speaker 2 (33:24):
Now?

Speaker 12 (33:24):
Much? My thing is if the pagers can contain Cook
and the two tight ends knocks and what the hell
is the other one? Think, Yeah, it might actually have
a chance as long as they keep Josh Allen from
doing Josh Allen things.

Speaker 6 (33:45):
He tends to do those things.

Speaker 12 (33:48):
Yeah, I know, it's freaking annoying.

Speaker 6 (33:51):
I hear that.

Speaker 7 (33:52):
I just he's such a big player. And one of
the things I think is hardest about Josh Allen is
just his ability to move when you when to make
bros late in the down. Yeah, two skills that just
crush you. When you think you've got a stop on
third down, you think you've got him running out of bounds.

Speaker 6 (34:10):
I think there was a throw last year. Paul, I
forget where he just he's running.

Speaker 7 (34:13):
He's like half one foot out of bounds and then
just throws a laser do that for a touchdown, and
it's just the play is never over with this guy
until it's over. And that's you know, I just said,
we don't really know what this Patriots defense is. This
is a chance to go out and show a little
bit of what they can be against a quarterback like this, because,
like Paul said, there's so many up and down teams

(34:34):
right now.

Speaker 6 (34:36):
This is a guy, though, who is not up and down.
This is a team that is up right now.

Speaker 7 (34:39):
They started off the year with a huge win over
the Ravens, and it looks like they, like we heard earlier,
they got their site set on January, and you know,
the Patriots are gonna have to bring the energy to
derail Lie.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
And that's how you get better when you play a
good player, like defensively, if you don't see the good regularly,
then it's easy to become mediocre.

Speaker 7 (34:58):
At I mean, you know, to be it's and some
of it's circumstantial. But I think over the last two
years they've played him a little bit better. I mean,
there was you know that time in twenty twenty twenty
twenty one, especially the playoff game, where you're just Josh
Allen didn't punt against the Patriots defense. So again last year,
they're three and eleven and they go up there and
they jump out to a big fourteen nothing lead, and

(35:18):
you know, it looks like, hey, maybe we got Josh Allen.

Speaker 6 (35:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
No, you don't.

Speaker 7 (35:22):
So look it's it's you've got to you got to
do it yourself. You know, he's not gonna hand the
game to you. And if somehow you catch him on
and off night, you got to take advantage of it.

Speaker 5 (35:31):
All right, Patty, And I go, am, let's hear you.

Speaker 15 (35:35):
Hey, Patty, good evening, everyone, what's going on?

Speaker 6 (35:38):
Good evening.

Speaker 15 (35:41):
So I had a thought and I wanted to get
your guys opinion on it before I get to it. Though,
I think this is gonna be a much lower scoring
game than I see a lot of people picking.

Speaker 11 (35:51):
Polly.

Speaker 15 (35:51):
What you said during the week, your pick. I'm not
gonna spoil it, but you got me fired up. I
wish I could hitch my wagon to you, but I
am picking the Bills in a narrow twenty seven to
twenty three to twenty three games. But I feel like
I feel like Drake can really test this defense down
the field. I would like to see them try and
like have Kayshawan or possibly Kyle Williams, like run a

(36:12):
couple of go routes early and just see if we
can take advantage of them deep, because I don't think
they're deep. Middle is all that good. And I mean,
to me, the big thing is going to be slowing
down James Cook, because I mean, Josh Allen is going
to do Josh Allen things. But Cook to me, looks
like one of the best, if not the best running
back in the league.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
And I'll take it off there.

Speaker 7 (36:33):
I guess, yeah, I just I mean for me, and
I know evn't said during the week, I'm not really
scared about the tight ends beating us.

Speaker 6 (36:41):
But when you struggle to cover, you struggle with tackling.

Speaker 7 (36:46):
You know, Khalil Shakira is among the league leaders and
broken tackles.

Speaker 6 (36:49):
Maybe you have Marcus Jones on him.

Speaker 7 (36:51):
So it's just those matchups covering the running backs and
the tight ends and coverage.

Speaker 6 (36:57):
I just see it stretching the Patriots defense a little
bit challenging.

Speaker 8 (37:00):
But I do agree with Patty and that I think
that you can the safety you know, for years they had,
you know, Poyer and Hyde and you really you couldn't
get over the top of them. They were really, really good,
rangy athletic safeties and they don't have that anymore. So
I do think you can get them. It's weird because
their numbers. This's why I asked when Jay was on,

(37:21):
I was sort of asking about the numbers with the defense,
because they run defense numbers are terrible. They pass defense
numbers are unbelievably good. I look at them, and I
look at the secondary. I don't think the secondary, you know,
on paper, looks to be that strong, but they're having
a really you know, they're having a good time, you know,

(37:42):
shutting teams down, you know, throwing the ball. And it's
not like they you know, like Miami can throw it
a little bit. You know, obviously Baltimore did throw it.
I mean they scored forty points in that opener. I
just wonder how that number one pass ranked you have,
number one ranked pass defense came about. Yeah, it doesn't
seem like the you know, Chadevius White has played a

(38:02):
role in that secondary's I have a lot of respect
for Trey White. I think he's a really good player.
I think he's on the back nine, to say, to
say the least. So I just wonder, you know, Christian
Bedford doesn't seem like he's been the same guy this year.
I think you can. I think Patty might be right.
I think you can make some plays down the field
on these guys, I hope.

Speaker 7 (38:20):
So I just think having Josh McDaniel's back in the mix,
you feel good about his ability to identify what a
defense's weakness is. But you know, when you just when
you dig into a lot of the stats, there's nothing
on this defense that really jumps out at you. I mean,
they're kind of middle in the pack with blitzing and pressure.
You know, there's nothing like, oh, that's the thing. And
I think it's more you know, Sean McDermott. It's a
sound defense, and I think they make plays at the

(38:42):
right time and certainly have confidence when you know Josh
Allen is your quarterback and you're going to produce points,
and to the Patriots point, if you do give up
a score too, it's like it's okay, we're probably going
to score more than ten points.

Speaker 6 (38:54):
Yeah we can, we can, we can manage. We got
to bounce back.

Speaker 4 (38:57):
We got an email actually we saw Drake May warming
up a little bit earlier. And it's from Cookar and Jacksonville, Florida,
asking does Drake May practice the QB draw before every game?
Looks like he was running QB draw and warm ups.
I wonder if there'll be a big part of the
game plan or they're just bluffing the bill.

Speaker 7 (39:13):
I mean, I'd love to see it down on the
goal line. Those kinds of things are good, but you know,
middle of the field. The answer is yes, they practiced place.

Speaker 6 (39:21):
Yeah, you know, we haven't.

Speaker 7 (39:25):
We haven't seen a ton of Drake really running the
ball so far. I mean, you know, made the rushing
touchdown last week. I'm not sure if that was by
design necessarily, but he's a weapon with his legs, no question,
and uh, you know it's as as as our behind
enemy lines.

Speaker 8 (39:38):
Guests said, So, I don't think both of his rushing
touchdowns this year, I don't think when necessarily called runs.
But they have run past options to them, especially this one.
The one in Miami might have just been because the
immediate pressure that Jude On got, he.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
Rolled and then he happen.

Speaker 8 (39:53):
Yeah, but this the one last week I think is
designed like you get out there. If you have to
throw make it. If you not run it in, yeah,
you know you can't. It's hard to take everything away.

Speaker 6 (40:03):
Yeah No.

Speaker 7 (40:04):
And that's and that's the Josh Allen point of it all.
It's something you love to have your quarterback be able
to do. Talk about it all the time. Third and long,
everybody's covered, you think you're getting off the field, and
then the athletic quarterback tucks the ball, picks up a
first down, and it's just it's a backbreaker, you know.
You just feel the letdown, like, oh, we had him
and he got He got us out of that hook.
So we'll see if Drake's able to maybe make some

(40:27):
noise with his legs tonight. I mean, honestly, I'd like
to see Ramondra Stevenson get back on track.

Speaker 6 (40:31):
I'd like to see more of like what we saw
from him.

Speaker 7 (40:34):
A few weeks ago before the fumble down in Miami,
when he really had the you know, a throwback kind
of a game. It was a big part of that victory.
That is one weakness you look at the Bills. Maybe
we can take advantage of it, Ramondra Stevenson getting him going.

Speaker 6 (40:46):
That could be an effective piece.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
Yes, absolutely, all right, Well we were talking about the weather.
It's such a beautiful day still outside here in New
England at least, and it's also a good day for
you to use your Aaron's mower. Nothing says football season,
of course, like firing up a grill in the backyard.
Maybe you're having a watch party tonight, having a cookout.
And the best cookouts have the best looking lawns, the
lawns that are cut with Aaron's mower. Aarons, the official

(41:10):
lawnmower of the New England Patriots, is proud to help
Patriots fans.

Speaker 5 (41:13):
Get back to football. All you need to do is.

Speaker 4 (41:15):
Visit www dot Arons dot com to find your errands.
And now, with that being said, time for the two pack.

Speaker 5 (41:25):
Of the game.

Speaker 3 (41:27):
We get the over unders first.

Speaker 4 (41:29):
Oh yeah, so sorry, yes, over nunders. Apologies, just skipping
to my favorite part of the show. Let's get into
the over unders.

Speaker 3 (41:38):
All right too.

Speaker 10 (41:40):
Let's see what last week brought us.

Speaker 9 (41:46):
Now for this week's edition of over Unders.

Speaker 6 (41:48):
You over when will you me?

Speaker 8 (41:52):
All right, So Kwannie continues to have you know the
better of things on the over Unders.

Speaker 3 (41:57):
She was four and two last week. Uh, Mike was
three and three.

Speaker 8 (42:00):
I remained in the basement and everything all things Predictions
at two and four for the season Kwani fifteen and nine,
Mike thirteen and eleven, and Paul ten and fourteen.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
Last place, loser, loser, all.

Speaker 6 (42:15):
Right, got to build on your lead on or.

Speaker 4 (42:18):
Yes, I know the pressure is on, all right, So
we're gonna start with Drake May passing yards at two
hundred and thirty and a half.

Speaker 3 (42:27):
I'm going, yes, go thirty and a half.

Speaker 6 (42:31):
Mike, I'm gonna go. Yes.

Speaker 7 (42:32):
I'm going over with Drake. I think he's gonna have
to throw one way or another. I mean it goes
to Paul's key.

Speaker 6 (42:38):
Whether you want to get Bill a lead, you need
to climb out of a hole. I like it. I
think Drake's gonna throw the ball, give me the OD.

Speaker 3 (42:44):
Yeah, I'm going to take the over as well.

Speaker 8 (42:46):
I spent the whole first fifteen minutes telling you why man.

Speaker 4 (42:50):
I'm gonna take the over as well, because, like you said,
I'd want to see more passing out of him today.
And of course, with Stefan Diggs being back at the
former home, I like seeing revenge games from players as well. Yeah,
and Josh Allen with passing yards.

Speaker 5 (43:04):
It's the same number, two thirty and a half.

Speaker 6 (43:06):
I guess that's I guess the first.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
Yeah, I will take the under on that spicy. They
don't want to throw the ball, balanced attack, you.

Speaker 6 (43:15):
Go, I'm gonna take the over. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (43:18):
I just really want an offensive.

Speaker 3 (43:19):
Game, clearly.

Speaker 6 (43:20):
Yeah, I know they don't want to, but I think
they're gonna. I'm gonna take the over two.

Speaker 4 (43:24):
Yeah, all right, I spoiled it, kind of like Stefan
Diggs receiving yards fifty and a half. I'll go first. I,
like I said, want to see him play, So I'm
gonna just take the over on that one.

Speaker 6 (43:37):
Yeah, I'm gonna go with you.

Speaker 7 (43:38):
I think it's for a breakout, important to important to
give him some care, you know, to get him some touches,
get he wants to have a good game tonight. It's
gonna mean a lot to him, and I think Josh
will make a concerted effort to get the ball in
his hands early and often.

Speaker 6 (43:49):
So I'm gonna I'm gonna go over on that one too.

Speaker 8 (43:51):
Yeah, I'm gonna take the under. It could be a
revenge game for the Bills. They're the ones that feel
like they were wronged. So he had one hundred last week.
I think he'll go back down. I think he has
the attention of the secondary. I think he'll be the
focal point. I'll take me under.

Speaker 6 (44:08):
I like the game plan.

Speaker 4 (44:09):
Yeah up next, longest field goal made fifty and a
half yard?

Speaker 6 (44:14):
All right, I'm back up.

Speaker 3 (44:14):
First.

Speaker 8 (44:15):
It is a very warm night in Buffalo, so normally
you would say a night game in Buffalo.

Speaker 6 (44:20):
Yeah no, no, not a lot of long field goals,
but not the wind. I'm gonna I'm gonna go over
play the odds.

Speaker 3 (44:28):
I'm gonna take the under. I just don't feel like
the touchdown games.

Speaker 8 (44:33):
Yeah, no stops long drives, No stops long drives.

Speaker 5 (44:38):
I'm taking the under as well for the similar reasons.

Speaker 6 (44:41):
Alone on an island.

Speaker 4 (44:42):
All right, total touchdowns five and a half.

Speaker 6 (44:48):
All right, that's you, Pa.

Speaker 3 (44:49):
I don't know if anybody's been listening to me today,
but I'm gonna take the over.

Speaker 5 (44:53):
Yeah, I'm gonna take the over.

Speaker 6 (44:56):
Obviously. I think there's gonna be some points tonight. Make
it all three of us.

Speaker 4 (45:02):
And then finally total score forty nine and a half.
And I'm judging by all of our answers.

Speaker 5 (45:08):
I'm taking over.

Speaker 8 (45:09):
Yeah, I can't believe I'm taking a forty nine and
a half over on a Patriots game. I don't remember
the last time I did that. Tom Brady may in
fact have been the quarterback. But I get the overtime.
There's gonna be some points in this ball game. Yeah,
I'm with you, guys. I think there's a I think it's.

Speaker 7 (45:25):
Gonna be one of those most back and forth games,
and you know it's I think it's gonna be crazy.

Speaker 6 (45:29):
I kind of hope it is. That's what I'm anticipating.
But I just don't want.

Speaker 3 (45:34):
To see this crazy Clark.

Speaker 6 (45:36):
I like it.

Speaker 5 (45:39):
All right.

Speaker 4 (45:40):
Now, we're going to get to my favorite part. But
before we do, anyone ever wish you could make some
nachos before we watch the game. You were talking about
nachos earlier last night. Well, football fans, you know that
traditions matter and turning moments together into truly something epic.
That's what inspires our masa and tostitos. The traditional way,
starting with whole corn kernels, no artificial flavors, colors, or

(46:02):
preservatives also give you that perfect crunch you can discover
your next tradition this football season, just had to store,
grab your Tostedo's team bag and scan the code for
a chance to score an epic experience with the Patriots.

Speaker 5 (46:14):
Tostitos.

Speaker 4 (46:15):
Traditions matter, And now our Sunday six back.

Speaker 7 (46:20):
This is a Sunday six packs, So kick back and
listen to my position.

Speaker 6 (46:23):
I'm getting to get the pits back.

Speaker 9 (46:25):
You've had to bring up big stack, get it mixed,
Jack came to win it.

Speaker 6 (46:28):
Get this is the Sunday sixth bad.

Speaker 4 (46:30):
So do we get a remix for the two back
for tupacship our producer? All right, well, of course we
only have two games because it's Sunday night and Monday
night football. But first we're gonna start with Kansas City
Chiefs at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Speaker 6 (46:47):
Are you trying to, like Paul, get out of having
to read the results from last week?

Speaker 8 (46:49):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (46:50):
Yeah, I think I was.

Speaker 8 (46:52):
I'll be glad to read these four and two last
week Janney and Mike with two and four it's so bad.
So uh, Kwannie is the leader at twelve and twelve,
fall by Paul at eleven and thirteen and Mike at
ten and fourteen. Still in marine you did not give
me spreads on these on my oh on my two paths.

Speaker 9 (47:13):
Oh sorry, I forgot to type them out for you guys.

Speaker 1 (47:16):
The Kansas City Jacksonville spread is case minus three and
a half.

Speaker 5 (47:21):
Oh, thank you. We should have you come in here minus.

Speaker 6 (47:24):
Three and a half. All right, I'm gonna go first.
That's a that's a pretty good line. I mean, the
Jags three and one. Kansas City feels like they found
a little something last week. I'm going back.

Speaker 7 (47:33):
To what I did last year where I just kind
of picked the Chiefs because that okay, Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 6 (47:37):
So I'm gonna take the Chiefs in this one.

Speaker 4 (47:40):
I'm gonna take take Jacksonville. It it could be.

Speaker 5 (47:43):
I feel like it would be an even matchup.

Speaker 7 (47:45):
Today, but be a huge It's a huge game for
Jacksonville to get, like back into the conversations. I think,
you know Trevor Lawrence early on in his career and
you know, I made the playoffs and now it's been
a couple down years for him, injuries and whatnot.

Speaker 6 (47:57):
But you know, huge game for them, get a win
at home again. That yeah, they'll be they should empty
attack for this one.

Speaker 8 (48:04):
Yeah, I'm going to take Jacksonville. Also, I don't know,
I just have at home. I think they I think
they are off to a pretty solid start. I think
that they like playing for their somewhat odd coach. We'll
call Liam Cohen a different dude.

Speaker 6 (48:22):
Well, he's like barking it.

Speaker 3 (48:23):
But yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not a fight. It's not
a fight that I would want to be. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (48:32):
So I'm going to take Jacksonville for the the upset.
They're at home on a Monday night, all right. So
the Patriots spread is eight and a half.

Speaker 5 (48:41):
Thanks for finding that for me.

Speaker 3 (48:42):
So Buffalo by eight and a half.

Speaker 5 (48:46):
I've been thinking about this all day.

Speaker 6 (48:47):
Seven and a half.

Speaker 3 (48:48):
According to seven According to DraftKings, it's eight and a half.
We go by I'm looking we go by that and
a half. House, all right, we'll go seven and a.

Speaker 6 (48:56):
Half, seven and a half, seven and a half.

Speaker 3 (48:58):
We'll do different.

Speaker 7 (48:59):
Well that that helped, That helps my score. I'm gonna
stick with my score. Yeah, I'm gonna go Buffalo in
this one. I just think too much there.

Speaker 6 (49:08):
I don't you know.

Speaker 7 (49:08):
I give the Patriots a puncher's chance, But I think
the end of the day, what we're gonna be talking
about in the post game, is that the defense just
couldn't get enough stops first, Josh Allen, I'll tie it
right into my key. They just couldn't get off the
field enough to get that. Whether it's the early stops
to avoid getting in a hole or the late stops
to kind of give their offense a chance to get
back in it. I think Buffalo is going to be

(49:30):
just a little bit ahead. Patriots are gonna be chasing
just a little bit throughout the game, and then Buffalo
finishes it off by about a touchdown, just a little
more thirty one twenty three bills.

Speaker 4 (49:39):
I don't want you guys think I'm pandering, but I
think the Patriots are going to win this one. I
just am struggling with the seven and a half part.

Speaker 3 (49:48):
Well, they're getting seven and a half, so the Patriots
are winning. You're picking the.

Speaker 5 (49:52):
Patriots, Okay, Okay, I'll just think that I'm taking the Patriots.

Speaker 3 (49:54):
So you picked Buffalouffalo.

Speaker 6 (49:56):
I took Buffalo.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
Yeah, with the seven and a half by eight points, Okay.

Speaker 8 (50:01):
I'm with Kwannie and I am picking an upset here,
and this is this is a legit upset, like this
is not like one of those spread, they will like
a point underdog, like you know, you feel game could
have gone even either way. I think the Patriots are
gonna win thirty four to thirty three. I think it's
going to be a shootout, and I think Drake May
is going to lead a late scoring drive, maybe a

(50:24):
field goal, maybe a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (50:26):
I don't know yet, haven't really.

Speaker 6 (50:27):
Hasn't had any come here.

Speaker 8 (50:28):
I haven't seen the final vision come to fruition. But
I just think this game means a lot more for
the Patriots, and I think they've put a lot more
into it than Buffalo has. And I'm not saying that
that's why they're going to win because Buffalo's overlooking them.
I think Buffalo has sort of overlooked the last couple,
so they I think they're going to have their attention tonight,
But it just means more to the Patriots, and I

(50:49):
think that that's going to be just enough to get
them over the top.

Speaker 7 (50:53):
We actually set like a make a rule for like
a proper spread to be an official upset, like anything
less than five point it's not really an upset, you know,
or not an upset lock of the week like you know,
like because I like what you said, like six and
a half, Like that's legit, Like you're.

Speaker 8 (51:06):
Yeah, I mean I would say, you know, like Kansas
City's favor by three and a half on the road,
that's a legit favorite to me. Like you're on the road,
You're on the road on a Monday night and you're
three and a half point favorites.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
I mean I took the points there too, you did.

Speaker 6 (51:21):
I did.

Speaker 8 (51:21):
That's why I'm in last, well, actually second place in
that one. You're in last place.

Speaker 5 (51:26):
He knows what he's doing there.

Speaker 6 (51:27):
I think you already said. You know, you have to
keep talking about it. I just keep reminding fine, thank you,
thank you.

Speaker 8 (51:32):
I don't know, like, and people have been sort of
chirping me during the course of the week because it's
not really like me, like to be pro to be
like over the top, you know, confident in this kind
of a situation, you know. I mean there was a
day where I gave the nod in the middle of
the first quarter of games, but that was long, long ago,
far far away.

Speaker 6 (51:51):
Mike.

Speaker 3 (51:52):
Yeah, this is a different time.

Speaker 5 (51:54):
People change.

Speaker 7 (51:55):
I think I saw it a game one of twenty nineteen,
my first game working officially for the team, and what
they mean. They absolutely house the Steelers here, and I
think we're in like the middle first quarter, and all
of a sudden, Paul next to me just gives like.

Speaker 6 (52:07):
What did he what?

Speaker 2 (52:07):
What?

Speaker 6 (52:08):
What did he just do? What was that?

Speaker 3 (52:10):
That's that's the that's the not like what's the nod?

Speaker 6 (52:12):
And that's when Paul deems the game is over. I'm
like over, the want to it's over.

Speaker 3 (52:20):
Brady was the quarterback.

Speaker 7 (52:23):
We've been getting a lot of reverse nods lately, but yeah,
you know, yeah, I don't do that.

Speaker 5 (52:26):
The night that night, we're still getting some calls.

Speaker 4 (52:29):
Let's hear what Eric in New Jersey has to say.

Speaker 11 (52:33):
Hi, Eric, Hey, give you guys. It feels good, it
feels good. We're primetime. That one of these freak show
Thursday night games. But I got it, but I gotta
I gotta go with Duce here. I think the pats uh.
I think Drake balls out today, but I still think
he's in his Jake Color era. He gives up too,
he gives the ball twice and U I'm just happy

(52:55):
to see the pass back on prime time and it's
not not one of those free show games. I'll take
it off line.

Speaker 8 (53:01):
I mean, I get what he's saying, and I think,
you know, if there's those two things can happen.

Speaker 7 (53:07):
Right right, No, I I mean that's number two for
my list. I mean it's just the defense getting stops
and then Drake reverting back to turnovers and and you
know said it a lot like I think he's on
an upper trajectory. But it's not a straight line. There's
ups and downs, and this is a good defense. This
is a hostile place, and they're gonna have he's gonna
have to play a clean game tonight, and I just I.

Speaker 6 (53:28):
Would not be surprised.

Speaker 8 (53:29):
I will say if they if he wins despite turning
it over twice, then I could say, like you model,
you could, you could ball out if you win and overcome.

Speaker 7 (53:38):
Those fourth quarter comeback and you you know hey had
but but he put him behind him to be he
was nails.

Speaker 8 (53:46):
I think that would really be the best way to
win the game. I know I always say it, no
one cares how you win it, as long as you
win it. But I think people.

Speaker 6 (53:54):
Overcoming mistakes or total clean no, no, him him.

Speaker 3 (53:57):
Winning it at the end.

Speaker 8 (53:58):
I think that's independent, you know, going down and putting
a drive together, you know.

Speaker 7 (54:02):
I mean, that's what going into this whole loss season quantity,
that's just you know, one of my things and I
think is the question was is Drake clutch? And I
think it's asking a lot for a quarterback in his
second year. You know, when his eleven, twelve, thirteen, forty.
You know, we're in teens of starts in the NFL.
You can't say you're gonna divine, divine define his NFL
career by this initial sample size. But at the same time,

(54:23):
it's you know, the ability to close the game out
a couple of weeks ago against the Dolphins. You know,
great play by Ramondre Stevens and taking the ball up
the sideline and you know, so it wasn't they were
able to win that game, but it wasn't so much
about like Drake just went walked in, took him down
the field. You know, he had some help, and that's fine.
It's a team game, and you know, I'm not going
to hold it against him. But I think to Paul's point,

(54:45):
to see it like people wanting to put Drake May
in the MVP conversation right now, that's what you need
to see out of an MVP especially when the game
hasn't been going.

Speaker 6 (54:54):
Your way, or you know it's it's gets down.

Speaker 7 (54:57):
To the end, you haven't played great, the crowd is
on top of you, their Buffalo's looking at a.

Speaker 6 (55:02):
Win, and Drake somehow wills them down the field.

Speaker 7 (55:05):
I think that would be the greatest scenario that you
could possibly have right now for his development. But again,
I think it's going to be an up and down trajectory,
but no question he's on an upward one and to.

Speaker 4 (55:14):
That point, Buffalo is clearly four and zero for a reason.
But I think the whole mentality for Drake has to
be control what you can control.

Speaker 5 (55:21):
When we talked about the turnovers, it was because of
things that he can control.

Speaker 4 (55:24):
So I think for him being the leader of this team,
if he is locked in enough to say, all right,
I'm gonna quite literally ignore the noise in Buffalo, I
think what you're saying is possible.

Speaker 7 (55:34):
Yeah, and I'd put it too on not all on him,
you know, like I said Ramandre Steelson. And then you know,
Buffalo's defense has given up the most explosive plays of
anybody this year. That to me, says Trevion Henderson. So
you know, maybe that's an X factor today. Ramandre will
be the guy who kind of keeps everything moving. That's
the role that I think the ideally they want for him.

(55:54):
But can Traveon Henderson improve on some of his pass blocking,
Can they find a way to get him in space,
and maybe most importantly, can trade in Henderson find a
way to start making guys miss, because I think he's
really been surprising as we've gotten into the regular season
with taking on a lot of contact where I'm kind
of waiting for him.

Speaker 6 (56:11):
I said at a billion times this summer. He just
seems to float.

Speaker 7 (56:15):
You'd hope a guy that can float can stop and
cut and make some guys miss, and we just haven't
seen enough of that from him yet.

Speaker 6 (56:21):
Hopefully it's coming. I know he has the speed to
do it.

Speaker 7 (56:23):
But look for maybe a Travon Henderson explosive play today
to maybe get the Patriots some points or at least
the field position.

Speaker 3 (56:29):
Yeah, I just thinking maybe Kyle Williams.

Speaker 8 (56:31):
Yeah, you know, And I'm not looking for volume, but
I'm looking for a play or two that you were
talking about, Mike, and I feel like he's kind of
knocking on the door a little bit. They've given him
some opportunities. I think they've taken a couple of shots.
I think Evan and I talked about this a little
bit during the week. Seems like they're trying to get
him involved and so far just hasn't hasn't manifested.

Speaker 3 (56:54):
But yeah, this is his secondary.

Speaker 8 (56:56):
I think that can be had a little bit, even
though they have great numbers.

Speaker 7 (56:58):
But to your point, Paul, I think with Diggs, if
they look at that hundred yards the game last week
and it says, you know.

Speaker 3 (57:04):
Jesus starting to focus on him, everybody else is singled.

Speaker 7 (57:06):
Let's focus on him and now it's on can secondary
targets emerge?

Speaker 6 (57:10):
You know? Ken?

Speaker 7 (57:11):
You know this is Buffalo is a big zone team.
We've talked a lot about Pop Douglas not being great
against zone. He's more of a man guy. He's the
speed to beat it. You know, does he emerge and
come up with some key third down catches if they
take away Stefan Diggs, you know Mac Collins. He's also
coming back for a team that he played before, So
I think we might need to see some of those
guys step up tonight.

Speaker 4 (57:29):
Absolutely well, I'm looking forward to seeing everything that goes
down but before we get out of here, you know,
we got to pay the bills. And that was not
a pun that was intended this time. But the Patriots
pregame show is sponsored by the Massachusetts two fifty campaign.
They're commemorating a history of possibility. You can plan your
revolutionary weekend at Massachusetts two fifty dot org.

Speaker 5 (57:50):
Any final words before we wrap, No, just I.

Speaker 6 (57:54):
Hope the Patriots play a clean game.

Speaker 7 (57:55):
Give himself a chance, don't you know, don't hand the
game to Josh Allen on a silver.

Speaker 3 (57:59):
I love that.

Speaker 8 (58:00):
I just don't want this game. I don't want the
what ifs. The Pittsburgh game still bothers me, you know,
two weeks later. I don't want one of those. I
don't want to win. I mean again, I get it,
wins a win. I don't want to win. Because of that.
I don't want to yob about win and I want
to yob but loss. I like to see both teams,
you know, put their best foot forward, and if the
Patriots have improved, then let them win, you know. And

(58:23):
I would definitely not the thing that you talked about.
I don't want to lose and have it be geez
if they had just held on to the football. They
could have given themselves a chance. They could have done this,
They could have done that. The time for woo it
coulda shug ar is gone. Like I'm not telling you
they're a playoff caliber team yet, but they've buttoned things
up there. They have a better coaching staff than they

(58:45):
had last year. They're still committing too many penalties, They're
still making too many mistakes, but it's less, it's less,
so continue to progress in that way.

Speaker 6 (58:54):
That I just say one more thing to you.

Speaker 7 (58:55):
This is a national game, so the result will be magnified,
and whatever the result is, it will be blown out
of proportion a little bit, probably that Patriots aren't quite
ready for prime time, or oh my god, the Bills
are in trouble and Drake May has arrived. You know
that's it's probably going to be kind of an extreme
just because of the you know, it's a national game.

Speaker 4 (59:13):
Then itself is already the pressure, so they know what
to expect.

Speaker 5 (59:16):
We hope you enjoy the game.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
