wins of Patriots will host the five and seven Indianapolis Colts.
Should be a good one out there today, Chili around
thirty six or thirty seven, good football weather as we
welcome December and week thirteen into the National Football League.
Matt Smith to my left is Paul pro To my
(01:59):
right Mike Dusseau and Tamara Brown. How's everybody doing today
too well?
Speaker 6 (02:03):
Matt?
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Thanks rid up for some football, frid Off for some football.
Little Yeah, a little chilly out there. I like it
feels a little different.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
We were commenting this year, We've had a lot of
really nice weather days, so I.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Am kind of curious. Little cold weather for Drake May.
Let's see, let's see if it impacted. Sure. This is
the Patriots pregame show, fueled by Duncan and right out
of the shoot Patriots Nation. The most nail biting action
film of the season, Carry On, starring Taran Edgerton, Sophia Carson,
and Jason Bateman, touches down on Netflix on December thirteenth.
That we mentioned today's December first, just in time for
(02:32):
the holidays. The only liquids allowed are blood, sweat and
tears catch carry on December thirteenth, only on Netflix. There
will be some blood, sweat and tears on the football
field today at ju Led Stadium. I think the Patriots.
Who's the most desperate team today? Tamara, That's a good question.
Speaker 7 (02:51):
That's that's a tough one. I would have to say
the Patriots. You know, you want to start the month off,
especially before a buye. You want to go into the
buy with some momentum. I would hope both of these
teams actually are going into a buy after this. But
I'm going to go with the Patriots because we're the
home team, they're the most desperate. Let's get Drake may
win today to start off the month, right.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Paul, do you buy into the desperate team theory and
that that's an edge? If not, you know, it's one
of those hypothetical things.
Speaker 6 (03:18):
Now like the spot. Yeah, I buy into the spot.
You know who's desperate? I mean, I think you could
make an argument either way for most of those because
the cult are playing for the posts, playing for the playoffs. Yeah,
so I think there's some despiration and they can't afford
to lose a game to a three to nineteen if
you want to make the playoffs. So there's some desperation there.
But then Tamara talked about the desperation for the Patriots.
(03:39):
You know, they need something good to happen. They need
to feel better about themselves as they head into the
bye week. So I definitely think there's an argument's made
on both sides, and.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Isn't part of that to get rid of the stink
of the Miami game, to make sure that that's not
lingering completely cleansed, punch back when they get punched. I
think Patriot fans would feel better today about the game
if they see some fight. I like Patriots.
Speaker 7 (04:04):
I like the way Devon Gotcha put it in the
locker room after that game. He said that game was
a tough pill to swallow, but you have to swallow
it to be able to turn the page. If you're
not gonna realize what happened, take accountability for it, and
then take the steps you need to turn the page
like it's never going to happen. So you have to
get that bad taste out of your mouth, and today
is the chance to be able to do that.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
For me, the past has gone.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
This is about the future for me these last five games.
Jiromeo talk about it this week. It's about finding which
players we can build around. I think you've seen some
of that over the last couple of weeks, with the
team moving on making decisions to move to younger players.
But you know, for me, there's a bad taste about
this season right now, and I think there's not a
lot left that you can do to, you know, really
(04:47):
make you feel super excited about how this season has gone.
I think most people would tell you this might be
the last game the Patriot that many people would give
the Patriots a chance to win, So I think they
have to take advantage of it. I think they need
to prove that they can put a clean game together
to some extent. And I don't expect it to be perfect.
It hasn't been perfect all year. But you know, I
want to see Drake May not turn the ball over.
I want to see the defense make Anthony Richardson look
(05:10):
like Anthony Richardsons look at some of his you know,
worst moments this year below fifty percent, and I think
that there's no there would be no worse indictment today
than if Anthony Richardson's out there completing sixty percent plus
of his passes and you know, looks comfortable and is
handling this Patriots defense whatever they're throwing in him.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
So I expect Drake may Wan want to see him
not turn the ball over.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
I want to see the defense cost some problems and
certainly has to take away the deep ball with this
quarterback and their ability to get the.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Lot to unpack there, Mike. But first I want to
say to your point about identifying Jerid Mayo is in
public identifying me. That was sort of surprising to see. Yeah,
we want to see from these different people, what do
we have there? And that seemed like it was a
first I kind of actually identify the people.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
I mean, it sounds like us on Patriots unfiltered. It
sounds like this is what you need to know. I mean,
I think we all feel pretty good about Drake may
right now. We want to feel good about more. I
think we feel good about Christian Gonzales to an extent
as well. After that, it's a quick drop off and
you're starting to say, well, I like Keon White, but
you know he hasn't done the ton since the beginning,
and you know, X, Y and Z all the different
examples you can bring out. I just want to see
(06:15):
these guys start to look like a team that's gonna
fight hard here down at the end, gonna continue to
stick together. Because you talk about what team needs it more.
I just I wonder if the Colts go out and
get ten point lead, what does this page what kind
of fight does this Patriots team have at home?
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Paul, I don't know that I accurately read the tea leaves,
but it seems like when I'm reading the tea leaves
a little bit, are people starting to pump the brakes
a little bit on Drake May because of the turnovers?
Is there more concern that after twelve weeks that the
turnovers aren't being cleaned up?
Speaker 6 (06:47):
I mean, I haven't really since that. I still see
like kind of a honeymoon period for him, you know,
around here. But yeah, absolutely, I mean it has been
on the part of the coaches.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
That's what I mean. Like Alex fin Pelt I thought
was pretty stern.
Speaker 6 (07:01):
I thought Gerrod Meyo, you know, talked about the turnovers,
and Drake May talked about the turnovers, and you know,
as well as Van Pelt. But I think if you
expected him to play clean games, then you were asking
too much. I mean, this is kind of a difficult
situation for now. He's had the most so I'm not
(07:23):
just excusing. Out of those four guys that have played,
the four rookie quarterbacks, he's had the most turnovers and
he hasn't played the most football those out of those guys,
so he needs to clean it up. I think he
recognized that. I was it on Tuesday. The days are
all messed up this week with the holiday, but I
think it was Tuesday that we heard from Drake may right. Yeah,
(07:45):
he recognized it. I thought he accepted it. And I
think the one in particular that I think he was
really critical of himself was the fumble on the Zach
Sealer play because that was just terrible all around. I
mean terrible recognition, terrible ball security, terrible decision making, and
he ends up fumbling the ball away. So those kinds
of mistakes I think are correctible, and he's going to
(08:08):
need to start doing that. Like Mike said, that's what
I want to look at the last five games, is
do young guys get a chance to play, and when
they do, are some of the mistakes that have cost
them opportunities? Do they start to wane as the season,
you know, unfolds here.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
I think the tea leads that I was referring to,
maybe Paul and you brought you did a great job
of bringing that up.
Speaker 8 (08:29):
Is that.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
I think for a long time Patriot fans, you've said, well,
they've found their guy. He's got it all the different
superlatives that everybody's talking about. And I think after the
week in Miami, what he said, Wait a minute, shouldn't
he be better than that? Shouldn't some of those shouldn't
some of those mistakes be cleaned up? That's really see
maybe you know the coaching staff being a little bit
more on point about it, Drake, me a little bit
(08:52):
more on point about it. Yes, there's something here, something
really good to work with, but they've got to clean
these things up. And now throw that into the mix
with what you want to see from other people along
the last five games.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Yeah, I don't think anybody's hair is on fire about
oh my god, the turnovers, Drake, but I think you're
starting to see like this is I mean, I don't
want to speak specifically about the Patriots fan base. I
would just say fan bases in general. You see a guy,
you get excited. Sure, you start to see errors getting
repeated a little bit, and I mean, I think some
of them. To Paul's point, you're a little bit more forgiving,
especially when they're down and he's trying to force things
(09:24):
and make a play. But when he's trying to swim
a guy, when he's throwing in an interception that he
said he was trying to throw away and it goes
right to the other team. You know, those are the
things that you only have so much leish on. And
I think, look, this is the NFL. Everybody gets it.
It's not going to be Drake May throwing you know,
twenty thirty interceptions every year and everybody feels great. So
I think that's the next frontier with him. We're being
a little bit, you know, tough on him, and that's
(09:44):
how that's how it should be.
Speaker 6 (09:45):
Great job by the boys too, giving us a quick
shot of this play and this is one you know,
and I talked about this a little bit. I'm going
to venture the score has something to do with this,
and Van Pelt brought that up when when we heard
from him too. You know, some of the game situations
have created some of the problems when it comes to
these turnovers. If it's a seven to seven game, Now
(10:06):
I don't know this for sure, it's a hypothetical. It
didn't happen. It was twenty four to nothing when that happened.
If it's a seven to seven game, I'm going to
say that he's a little bit more judicious with the
football there and doesn't try to make a play with
the swim as you said, over a defensive lineman. But
he did make the play, and we're gonna have to
see if he can correct those because if he can't,
(10:29):
then it's not we got the guy. If he can't
correct those mistakes. Now, I think he will correct the mistakes.
I think he's going to get better and better and
better as he gets more experience. It's why I wanted
him to play earlier in the year, and I think
that he will work through some of these errors.
Speaker 7 (10:43):
Can I go back to what Mike was talking about
earlier about it would be a disservice to not know
what you have at the end of the year. I
want to know what we have in those rookie wide
receivers Jalen Polk and Javon Baker. What do we have
out of them? Out of the in these last five games.
That's what I want to see, because Polk really hasn't
revived himself from the mental issues of the mental block
(11:04):
that he was having earlier in the season. He really
hasn't come back from that. And of course Javon Baker,
we really haven't seen him do anything on offense either.
He's been playing a lot on special teams here and there,
but not really doing anything on offense. So I hope
to know something about them by the final home game.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
All right, we're going to fall up with that in
a second, but first we must get to the keys
of the game.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
You've waited all week for it.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
The whole teams in the locker right now, just listening
to this, waiting to hear what you're gonna say.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
Here are the Patriots pregame socials keys to the game.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
I think, once again, Tamara, we're gonna start with you
because yours says heads up, and I scratch my head
with heads up. So I'll let you explain, please.
Speaker 7 (11:48):
I feel like I'm gonna have to start giving more
clear keys so that I.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Don't necessarily d rings intrigue.
Speaker 7 (11:55):
But I like to write these keys so that it
has some intrigue and kind of like tis so heads up,
you got it, you got it, Mike got it out.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
We weren't on a two shot. I thought we were one.
Speaker 8 (12:09):
I know, I know.
Speaker 7 (12:10):
You know when someone heads up, when you're like on
the sidelines and a ball is coming your way. That's
what this Patriots defense needs to be like today, because
Anthony Richardson, you got it, I got it, you got it,
heads up, like the ball could be coming your way
because he has accuracy issues and Anthony Richardson, I know
he's in his second year, but technically he's still a rookie,
and he only played four games his first year because
(12:32):
he was sidelined with the shouldery injury. This year he's
only played eight games because he was benched to Joe Flacco,
so he's still got a lot of growing to do.
Much like Drake may he has a league high interception
percentage in a league low completion percentage. The defense is
going to have a chance to get those takeaways today
because he's gonna have some balls sailing out places they
(12:53):
should not be. So today the defense could come away
with some takeaways because the ball may not end up
in his receivers.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Here heads up, Mike, heads up, Heads up.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
I guess for to me battle out of the basement,
you know, I think I think again, usually Paul grabs
like the key to the game, like the actual specific
football one, and then I'm weird like that, I have
to go a little bit more philosophical. I think, I
just I want to see this team play today to
win this game and really get a win. I think
this is a would be a great chance for them.
(13:24):
I think of what I've learned most over the last
couple of years is when you have a team that's
gonna win five or less games, every win is worth
so much energy for you know, and even for that week.
I remember that first week after they beat Cincinnati, and
you know, just it was such a great start to
the year, and your man, you feel wait, and then
you know it hasn't gone that great since.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
But I think at this point in the.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Season, it's really what this team needs is a little
bit of a reinforcement of that belief, you know, not
just in Drake, but in the coaching staff, in you know,
the defense. I want to believe in this defense. The
last couple of weeks, over certain portions of those last
two games, it just it looked like they didn't have
any ability to stop the two teams that they were facing.
And then we see the next games and those teams
(14:03):
both go against the team teams that make them work
a little bit for it, you know, not that it
was oh my god, you know you see the difference, though.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
I just don't want to see this defense.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
This is where I'm so focused today is stopping Jonathan
Taylor in the run, showing some fight against Richardson, making
them work for things. Because if it looks too easy
for the Colts offense today, I just think it's a
really really bad reflection on this team, the direction they're headed,
and how things are going to go over the last
four weeks. So I just want to see right now,
everyone's talking about you as you're gonna have the first
overall pick. You might be the worst team in the league.
(14:32):
That's the conversation surrounding the Patriots right now. Go out
here today, win a game. Show you're not that I
like it.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
Mike Paul, Yeah, Mike likes to tease me because it's
generally something to do with or on with the game,
and it is build a wall, and that wall is
meant to prevent Jonathan Taylor from from taking over the game.
You know, when they played Indy in Indy a couple
of years ago, they couldn't do it. They couldn't stop Taylor.
(14:59):
I don't think that the Colts are gonna drop back
forty five times with Anthony Ridgardson and beat you, but
they could do it twenty two times if you will
allow Jonathan Taylor to get twenty five plus carries and
move the ball that way, and then all of a
sudden Richardson just has to make a couple of plays
in the passing game to put points on the board,
(15:19):
then you can be in trouble. So I think it
starts up front with the front seven. Devon Gotchaw has
been pretty good this year. I don't think really anybody
else in the run game has been overly effective. Anthony
Jennings has been okay at times setting the edge, but
not consistently enough. So to me, this defensive game plan
should start with making sure a Taylor doesn't take.
Speaker 9 (15:41):
The game over.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
And and I just worded it a little bit differently,
but the same thing. Stop the stampede. I still have
PTSD about Taylor from that was a twenty one season,
I believe, wasn't it, Paul yep? And it wasn't a
what was it? It was a night game?
Speaker 10 (15:55):
What was it?
Speaker 3 (15:56):
A weird weekend?
Speaker 6 (15:57):
Think it was Saturday night.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Yeah, one of those weird games. And Taylor ran all
over them out of the buy and that can't happen
today for New England to win. So it's put up
our shut up time. They're gonna have to make Richardson
beat them. You know, however that manifests itself. If that's
you know, eight men in the box or whatever that is,
you know, dare them, make them one dimensional, take the runaway,
(16:21):
make them one dimensional. You know, I haven't really seen that,
you know them take away something. To your point about defense, Mike,
it was nice to see that happen today where they
dictate Herneah, you know, they're punching first.
Speaker 7 (16:33):
I think too, it's not just Jonathan Taylor. This is
the first quarterback that they're playing this season that has
design runs like he's gonna run a lot today. There's
a lot of design runs for him, and so seeing
how they can stop both of them, I think is
going to be the key in actually forcing him to
throw the ball, because I think that's where he's prone
to make mistakes.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
Here's a question for the crowd. If your team runs
in their fans, what do the fans run on when
you kick off your day with Duncan. We're with you
all the way to the end zone. Make a run
to Duncan, as Mike and Tamara did make a run
to Duncan the official coffee run of the New England Patriots. Okay,
with that being said, I want to get back to
a couple things that people said tomorrow. I'm going to
(17:10):
start with you and you talked about the wide receivers.
I want to know what we've got from these wide
receivers with five weeks left? Can I pose this question?
Might we already know?
Speaker 10 (17:20):
I hope not?
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Kind of yeah, I mean I would start with Baker.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
I mean I think he's he's going to have to
have an off season where he fully grasps it means
to be a pro. What the playbook is? You know,
that's the theme with him all season long. It's just
been consistency and knowing what to do. He's gotten some
opportunities on kickoff return, had some mental mistakes on those.
I think, just with him, I'm not I don't think
he's going to get enough opportunity to really break out.
(17:46):
And you know, I know Polk's been a big point
of discussion, especially last couple of days. Me and Evan
were talking about him. I know Taylor Kyles was talking
about Taylor Kyles put together a threat on him. I
just unfortunately, how many guys have eleven catches as a
rookie and then and then the next year breakout. It's
just you know, look, I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm
not saying I've given up on the kid.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
I really like the player.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
I liked the player more than maybe anyone else on
our shows. But at a certain point you have to
realize that it's not clicking for him. So looking at
the past of what's happened, could he come out and
have like ten, twelve, fifteen catches?
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Over sure?
Speaker 2 (18:20):
But I think that's a long shot right now, given
his usage and how much attention he's really even giving.
I mean a couple of weeks ago, he didn't even
have a target. You know, you have one penalty, no target,
so you know, get on track and have a breakout.
If you can't really even get the ball thrown your way.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
So I would love it not to be the case.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
I would love Jalen Polk to have a fantastic finish,
but based on what we've seen this year, it's gonna
be a grind for him till the end, and those
guys are gonna need the offseason or reset in my.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
View, Paul, there's an all old ball coach from wayback
when who said something along the lines and I'm probably
gonna butcher this and you'll correct me. When they're young pups,
if they're not nipping or they're not biting.
Speaker 6 (18:54):
They're not bark as puppies. They don't bark as dogs. Yeah,
So I agree with Mike about the rest of the
season because Jalen Polk plays a ton. He plays thirty
five plus snaps every game, so he's getting plenty of opportunities.
Baker is not getting opportunities, which tells me a different story.
(19:15):
And Mike, I think you know alluded to it correctly.
He's not earning them in practice on the practice field,
and that's the way. That's the consistent message that Alex
van Pelt has had when he's asked about him, seemingly
every week. So I think you do again, Mike is right.
These guys have played twelve games. Doesn't mean that there's
it's a referendum on their career.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
It's over.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
It doesn't mean that they can develop. You know, I'm
old enough to remember Eric Molds. You remember Eric Molds?
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Certainly?
Speaker 7 (19:44):
Do?
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Is he this shiny who did nothing.
Speaker 6 (19:47):
Pick the first two years? First round pick with the Bills?
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (19:50):
He was very quiet, and you know everybody thought this
what a wasted pick, and blah blah blah turned out
to be an exceptional wide receiver for the Bills. I'm
not telling you that all these guys are going to
turn out to be Eric Molds, but I'm just giving
an example of it doesn't always work that the guy
has to flash immediately. I know, and I learned something
(20:11):
this year.
Speaker 8 (20:12):
Matt.
Speaker 6 (20:12):
There's a five to twenty five rule. Did you know
about this? No rookie receivers that don't get at least
five hundred five yards in their first season generally do
not pan out. Oh, I didn't know that was a thing,
but we had a listener that gave us that information
and I found it fascinating. Now, in fact, do any
research to see if it's correct. But if I'm not
it fascinating, and so.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Tomorrow I bring up the question not to bury Caesar here.
I'm not trying to bury them and say that they
are wasted draft picks, but I do think we might
have come to the point in the season where it's
not happening for them yet. So it's just going to
be imperative. Their off season is going to be very,
very important, because I do think the organization is going
(20:56):
to count on them for in some way, shape or form,
to contribute next year. I don't think they'll be written off.
I just don't know how much we can expect to
see from them over the last five weeks because we've
been in some way, shape or form, We've been forming
this question for weeks now and it hasn't been answered
in the affirmative.
Speaker 7 (21:13):
And it's like in the off season, I want the
Patriots to go out and obviously get that veteran wide
receiver one, but then you do hope that these two
or one of the two will be a contributor next season.
And I'm not asking them to come out and be
Jacobe Myers. I'm not asking them to do that, but
at least be consistent and reliable because right now you
can't throw the ball either of their ways. So I'm
(21:33):
hoping that you know, this time next year, we're not
having the same conversation because I would hate that the
Patriots would have to waste another draft pick on a
wide receiver in the top one or two rounds and
they don't pan out.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
That's it for me, is have these guys done enough
to say, are you any kind of part of this future?
Do we need to completely address the wide receiver position?
Is if you guys won't even really contribute next year,
you know you can't pencil Jalen Polkin as your number two.
And well, we're just gonna go get T Higgins and
like it's hard to do. After the season he's had
I had optimism that maybe he could be that guy.
(22:07):
He hasn't done it to this point. And it's hard
from a managerial standpoint putting the team together. We don't
really know what we're gonna get out of these guys.
They're gonna be wild cards in year two, and it's
gonna be a little bit like it was last year,
where you had Booty, you had Raager, you had a
bunch of guys at the receiver position in summer, and
slowly over the course of summer and fall, that thins
out and then you get to the guys you want.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
But I just the guy that I want to see
today's Laden Robinson at left guard. I want to pivot.
I wanted to pivot from wide receiver to offensive line. Again,
the head coach is called. He's not calling them out,
but he's answering a question. Here's who I'd like to
see something from. And I thought that was really interesting.
Should we expect to see him in the starting lineup today?
Speaker 6 (22:47):
I think so.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
I mean Michael Jordan was released, which at first little jarring.
He's back on the practice squad. They've elevated him today,
so he will be active. So it wasn't quite the
abrupt shift that felt like initially where they were just like,
all right, we're done with Michael Jordan, let's, you know,
put Robinson in. But I would say signs are pointing
though towards Robinson's going to get a start at left guard.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
He's played a lot of right guard.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
If he can settle into this position, I think it
will be a huge key. I mean, this to me
is a lot more intriguing than the receivers at this point, because.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
You don't know how much offensive lineman you need.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
And if you can take oh, the left guard position,
and maybe you believe in Cole Strange is your center
and you know when one used that right guard and
maybe just maybe you can kind of settle in a
little bit with those interior spots. If if Robinson shows.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
Something, is that because there's less tape, Like to Paul's point,
we've seen enough of some of these people. We haven't
really seen enough of Robinson or enough of Robinson to
make up.
Speaker 6 (23:38):
He's played a lot. Robinson's played a lot. Wallace is
the guy that I don't think you have enough enough
information on. He's still hurt unfortunately. Because that's another one
to your point, Matt, that Gerard mentioned specifically, those two,
those two rookie linemen. Now what Gerard said, Mate makes
a lot of sense. It's funny, like you're right. It
was like the three of us are doing Patriots unfiltered Wallace.
(24:02):
You know, like listen, if they win the games, that's great,
but you know, we need to find out about some
of the you know, drid Mail said the same thing.
So I think it's a good move. If if indeed
we do see Robinson at left guard, find out if
he has the versatility to play both sides, and then
hopefully they can get Wallace back on the practice field
after the bye and you get him back in the
(24:23):
in the pittron at right tackley. I think that would
be a great development for the last month of the season.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
Is the other development Cold Strange playing center before the
season ends?
Speaker 6 (24:33):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (24:33):
Yeah, I mean Mayo said that he thinks he's going
to get in there, so yeah, he's not going to
play today. I think I have said that right officially out, Yeah,
he's officially ruled out.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
But yeah, another week to get ready here over the
bye week and then sure, I think those these are
the kind of things you're looking at. Get these guys
in there, especially against some good defenses. They're going to
be playing here down the stretch with you know, the
Chargers and the Bills twice and you know even Arizona,
so good challenge.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
Love to see these guys.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
I mean again, like, is there ever a world where
I mean, this is not going to happen, but Kayden
Wallace comes back at right tackle, Robinson's at left guard,
and when use that right guard, Cold strange looks like
a center, and then you know, I mean, look, I'm
just wise.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
Why is that I'm playing the Prince of Patriots positivity
right now? Yeah, But then you just need a left tackle.
Speaker 6 (25:13):
But that's what you're looking for. But instead of needing
four offensive linemen you need maybe you only need one.
Like that's what you have, that's what you're looking for,
that's what you're I don't think that's okay.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
I mean I just was, you know, getting out there
a little over my skis.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
That's the goal.
Speaker 7 (25:27):
Because then if you had to draft four offensive line,
I'm a wide receiver, then you need a.
Speaker 6 (25:33):
Mediculous you need at least two wide receivers, probably three.
You need probably three offensive line even no matter what
happens in the last five games. I mean Cayden Wallace
hasn't played all year. If he plays a couple of games,
it's not going to tell me, oh, I don't need
to worry about.
Speaker 7 (25:49):
You know.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
But those kinds of things can go a long way
to establishing him. So you need eight or nine offensive linemen. Well,
instead of having two, now all of a sudden, I
have six. You know, I don't know who's going to
start who's going to play where? But I feel a
lot better about the group as a whole. There's no
depth there, there's no starters there. So at least if
you know you have depth with Robinson and Wallace, that'd
(26:12):
be in strange, that'd be a really, really positive development.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
We're closing in on the witching hour. That means the
inactive hour at eleven thirty, Johnny and Active is going
to be ready and willing for that. Who's the most
Who's the person we're most worried about today, Dietrich Wise,
you know, Pepper's pop, Douglas.
Speaker 7 (26:29):
Douglas.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
We'll talk about that, but we're gonna go to commercial
and we've got a special guest. On the other side.
You are watching and listening to the Patriots pregame social

what's up?
Speaker 14 (29:40):
Man?
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Thank you for joining us, Thank you for having me.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
It's such an honor to be here.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
It's an honor for us to How is you here?
And you know, if those that don't know you're from
the Boston area, I am.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
I grew up in Winchester, graduated from Winchester High. You're
I'm a sachem yep, yep. I went to Boston College
as well, And so you're an Eagle in the right,
that's right.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Yeah, wegles have to be.
Speaker 5 (30:02):
Yeah, big game yesterday.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Yeah, So you're a Patriots fan.
Speaker 5 (30:06):
Huge Patriots fan. Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
Who was your favorite player as you were growing up
in the area, Coach.
Speaker 5 (30:11):
I mean it's an it's an easy answer, but Brady, right.
I mean, if we take that one away, take Brady away,
I'd probably go Randy Moss.
Speaker 7 (30:19):
You know, uh.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
Yeah, I really was, you know, being almost pretty much
almost undefeated, well undefeated, but the whole season. Yeah, great,
great season for sure, great season for sure.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
Is there a favorite Patriot memory that you can think
of when you were growing up? Like the one thing
we were so spoiled with it was an embarrassment of
riches for almost twenty years or twenty years plus. Yeah,
what was your favorite memory during this whole rule?
Speaker 5 (30:46):
Yeah, I feel like I'm just giving you like the
most easy and basic answers. But being down twenty eight
to three in the Super Bowl. Actually, my friend and
I live streamed us watching the show or watching the
game and just being down everyone like when you're on top,
everyone wants to see you lose for some reason, and
they don't want to appreciate what greatness is. I'm like,
(31:06):
you should be appreciating what we're seeing right now, like
Brady and his prime, Like we should be appreciating this,
not hating on it. And I'm you know, we're down
twenty eight three and I'm getting all these texts from
all my college friends and they're just they're not even
Falcons fans, but they just want to hate on us,
you know, So then just to see us like come
back and to win and Edelman making that incredible catch,
(31:27):
like how did this happen? The greatest comeback in the
history of sports and it happened to us, and like
solidified if you didn't think that Brady was the greatest
at that point like he was after that game, you know,
to be able to come back because it was awesome,
just crazy.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
You've convinced me in less than three minutes that you
can handle yourself in a bar if you want to
debate the Patriots, Come on, man, all right, bro, I've
had several and.
Speaker 5 (31:49):
I just don't understand why people like don't want to
see people.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
Win, right, it's so weird to me.
Speaker 5 (31:55):
It's so bizarre, right, Like the chiefs are kind of
experiencing that right now question right like people interesting to watch.
It's just wild how that happens? Man, Like what do
they say? You're you know, you live long enough as
the good guy to become the bad guy. That's not
the quote, but you know what, that's the sentiment, right,
it's pretty wild.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
So besides being here at to let daim today to
watch the Patriots take on the Colts, one of the
reasons is Kofi is here to promote the Monday Night
Raw at the Garden in just over two weeks on
the six sixty. That's right, yeah, tell us about that.
Speaker 5 (32:26):
Monday Night Raw is always spectacular. And as you guys know,
like the fans in New England and Boston are the
greatest fans in the world, so passionate, you know, we
have so many Like what we do is we win, right,
We want to see winning happens. So if you want
to win yourself, then you come to a WWE show.
Like if you hate fun, then don't come. If you
(32:47):
don't like fun, then don't come to the show. Because
it's an amazing show. It's like super fun. There's like
big pyrotechnics everywhere, the loud music. It's like a rock concert.
You get to see incredible athletes doing incredibly athletic things.
You cheer for the guys that you love, you boo,
the guys that you hate, and that's all okay. We
want you to come and have an experience. So tickets
are still available, but they're probably not going to be
(33:07):
available for long, So you got to go out there,
get your tickets and come out and be entertained. It's
going to be great.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
So the easy answer is the Boston guy would be
what's the best crowd you've been in front of? And
you'd want to say Boston, But because WW is such
a huge international event, what's the best crowd KOFEE that
you can recall that you've been in front of.
Speaker 5 (33:27):
So I have two answers for this. We had a
show in Santiago, Chile, and we hadn't been there as
a company before and South American fans are super super passionate.
So we had the one show. It sold out in
like five minutes, and then they opened it up for
a second night and just to see if it would
sell that also sold out. In like fifteen minutes. So
(33:49):
as soon as we walked out there, the entire arena
just like I've never felt an energy so strong as
the fans in Santiago two nights in a row and
wed just go out there and we'd be standing there
and people be losing their minds and then you like
take one step like whoa, you know, so just crazy,
crazy energy the entire night. The second answer, The most
(34:11):
interesting place that I've ever wrestled at was in Nime, France.
It was in a colisseum, like an actual coliseum where
people spilt blood and fought for their lives, and now
here we are doing that in our span nex, you know.
And we put a ring right in the middle of
the stadium and it was great to just like, you know,
do what was being done centuries before. Of course we
(34:34):
got to leave with our lives, so it was it
was a beneficial time for us, but very unique. I've
been so experienced, so fortunate to be able to experience
so many different cultures and travel the world and just
you know, the w W universe is amazing. We have
the best fans, the most passionate fans, and it's been
an honor to be able to do this for so
long at such a high level.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
We're pleased to be joined by Kofi Kingston the w WE.
Mike and I. I don't know that we have an expertise,
but I guess we talk about the Patriots to know
a little bit about the Patriots. Specifically for your appearance
here today, we brought in our w W E Ay,
do you have a wrestling name.
Speaker 9 (35:15):
I don't have a wrestling name, but I did the
Killer Kowalski School for my buddies bachelor party.
Speaker 5 (35:20):
Really, really, what a great place to have a bachelor party.
So what did you do when you went?
Speaker 9 (35:25):
So we got up on top rope, you know, threw
some elbows down rope. If you can picture somebody this
big trying to run the ropes with me.
Speaker 5 (35:35):
I've seen it. Bro. There's a guy, Brian Malonis. He
helped train me. He wrestles with rh every now and again,
but legend in the Northeast. I had my last match
on the Independence with him, and he's a big guy,
but an incredible athlete that moves around in ways that
he should not be able to move in that size.
So I've seen that happen, you know, I've seen guys
like yourself do incredible things.
Speaker 9 (35:57):
I wouldn't call myself an incredible athlete, but I tried.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
I called you, you know, you know, take the compliment.
Speaker 9 (36:02):
Yeah, man, come on, So you've done just about everything
in the business. You've won a lot of those, right there,
A lot of championship bell the titles. Yeah, the big
ones obviously when you won the ww Championship, But outside
of that, what would you consider your career defining moment?
Speaker 5 (36:16):
Oh man, this is such a weird question because I
feel like I don't like talking about my accolades and
I feel like I'm bragging or whatever. But you asked,
you know, That's why I'm gonna go ahead and say it.
I think the first title that I ever won was
the Intercontinental Champion and ship that was the first title
that I ever won, not just in WWE, but also
on the independent scene, and to wrestle against someone like
(36:39):
Chris Jericho, who is an established legend in our industry
and a guy who I looked up to at that time, like,
you know, he's the man, He's always been the man.
Shawn Michaels was also involved in that match, and Shawn
Michaels is my guy, you know, to me, I've never
seen him have a bad match. All the matches that
he has had have been great. So for him to
be involved, for that to be my first title when
(37:02):
it really made me feel like I actually like I'm
here now. I made it, you know, And I was
so green that when I held the title up and
they made like a Tops card of this, I'm holding
it like this. Yeah, and you know what I mean,
like you can't see the plates of the time. This
is this is not how you hold a title up.
But I never had the experience before. And sure enough
(37:23):
that's the card that they used on like the Tops
or whatever, whichever company made the card. But yeah, that
was something, you know, like this has always been my
childhood dream. When I was a kid in Winchester, we'd
have all the guys, all the kids in the pit
what our neighborhood was called. We would come through my
front yard. We would have royal rumbles and battle royals,
which I don't suggest to any kids to do at home.
(37:45):
Don't do that, you know, because it was very dangerous.
But we loved wrestling, and I really like envisioned myself
being at WrestleMania winning the WWE Championship. So for me
to actually have that happen, the term have your dream
come true is so cliche, but that to me, like,
that's what actually happened. This is all I've ever wanted
to do. So I've just been so blessed to be
(38:06):
able to be one of the few people on this
earth to say that they have lived out their childhood
dream and are continuing to live out their childhood dreams.
So it's been a while ride.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Well, Kofe, I had to reach out, you know. I
told you Meg Morant used to work. Yeah, you know,
she's a pro, so I figured i'd reach out to her.
So she scripted me a question. Oh wwemo out here
for a second.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
If you I'll do my best.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Meg Morant, But this week is the new day, is
ten year anniversary, wouldn't you know it? He and his
best friend, slash tag team partner have not been able
to get on the same page for the past few months,
and last night on Raw Woods crossed the line bringing
up how kofe Menia has ended. How does Kofi forgive him?
I mean, these two got to get it together before
their big anniversary.
Speaker 5 (38:49):
This is crazy, Meg Murrant, my good friend, the person
who I'd say I told her, she's just an amazing person,
and she gives me the hardest hitting question. I was
hoping to come here and i'd have to talk about that.
But yeah, Xavier Woods, he and I have been butting
heads as of late. But you know, families, that's what
(39:09):
they do. Anybody with siblings knows that at some point
in time you're gonna butt heads. Unfortunately for us, it's
kind of unfolding on television. We have our ten year
anniversary which is on Monday on RAW, and I don't
know what's going to happen. It's one of the first
times that like, I really have no idea what's gonna
happen with the celebration is gonna be. Like, we have
(39:30):
been in a group for ten years and we've never
been into a fight. We've never had an argument. But
over the past few months we've been butting heads a
little bit, and last week things got pretty intense after
our match. We were screaming at each other as soon
as we got backstage and saying some pretty terrible and
dastardly things to each other. But you know, it was
(39:52):
what it was, and I guess we'll figure out what
happens on Monday.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Yeah, you know you mentioned television and one of the
big news around the WWE is the move of Monday
Night Raw going to Netflix. What do you think that
that means?
Speaker 14 (40:09):
What is that?
Speaker 7 (40:09):
You know?
Speaker 3 (40:10):
Do you think there might be you know, I don't
know how it could be more edgy, but do you
think that would provide that carrier, that platform, maybe a
different edge to Monday Night Raw?
Speaker 5 (40:19):
Absolutely, I think the possibilities are endless. It's super exciting.
I think when it's all said, none of this is
going to be a real historical move because traditionally Netflix
hasn't really engaged in sports, you know, so now here
we are with WWE as sports entertainment, we're kind of
like walking that line between sports and entertainment and introducing
(40:42):
sports to Netflix, and you know, the possibilities are endless.
The possibilities are endless. I don't know what it's gonna
look like, but we're all super excited about it and
it's going to be amazing. We're in a really special
time with wrestling right now. You have the business at
like attitude level type interests, you know, and attitude level
(41:03):
type you know, ticket sales and all the shows are
sold out. It's hard to get like comp tickets for us,
which is a great thing. A lot of you know,
even coming here, everyone's already calling me about, Hey, you
guys are gonna be here for all Can I get
some tickets? I'm like, I don't know that you can
because they're going to be sold out. And it's great,
you know, it's great to be able to say that.
So with this Netflix partnership, like I said, I just
(41:24):
think it's a super super exciting time for us. Everybody
on the roster has been like clamoring at the bits.
Just get out there and do what we do to
the highest capacity. So it's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 9 (41:37):
So Tom Brady had the TV twelve method famously. Yeah,
you've been in the peak of WWE for almost twenty years,
which is crazy to think, but you're still one of
the most athletic on the roster. You have some of
the biggest spots. What do you do to stay in
the shape that you're in, especially being on the road
what three hundred days a year.
Speaker 5 (41:55):
Yeah, So Brady is actually a really big inspiration to
me in terms of that because people looked at him,
and they just said, well, he's too old, he's not
supposed to be he's not going to be able to perform,
you know, And sure enough he has you know. So
I'm like, well, what does he do to maintain his longevity?
So a lot of the things that I do involve recovery,
cryo treatments, red light therapy. My eating habits have changed
(42:20):
over the past decade. I've become completely vegan. I've been
completely vegan for since twenty nineteen. So yeah, it's funny
because I do look to Brady and I do look
to like what he's done to maintain that longevity. But
it's been a while, Rode I've been I've seen so
much change. The industry now versus where it was fifteen
(42:40):
years ago is amazing. Even the like the women wrestling,
they were at a certain point back then, they weren't
like allowed to have like long matches, and if the
show is running long and a match was gonna get cut,
it would be the women's matches that would get cut.
You fast forward to now, we have some of the
most incredibly talented women on the roster. We have you know,
(43:01):
their own royal rumble, you know, their own money in
the bank. Matches last night. Wargames last night was amazing. Right,
So we've come such a long way, and for me
to be here and see that transition and to see
everyone just stepping up is in the progression of the industry.
It's awesome. It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Well, last question for you though, I'm sure as a
Patriots fan you've got many Patriots podcasts you listened to,
But where would you rank Patriots Unfiltered amongst those? Unless
those many Patriots podcasts.
Speaker 5 (43:28):
Oh, this has got to be the number one. I mean,
come on, man, this has got to be the number one.
You guys always bring the energy. You got the good
vibes here. Meg Morant was here. So the spirit and
presence of Megmorant, even though she gave me that hearted
in question, her presence, you know, just lifts everything tenfold.
And you guys always do a good job of being
super interactive and knowledgeable and fair. You know. So, uh
(43:51):
this is you know, it was a layup question there.
I mean, come on, man, like cut your.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
Promo is your promo? Got your promo before we let
you go? Give what your pick today? Kofi?
Speaker 5 (44:04):
So I think today is gonna be a really good day.
I got it. I don't want to count chickens before
they hatch, but especially after the game last week, we
struggled quite a bit, you know, a lot of penalties,
you know, pre snap penalties and all that.
Speaker 6 (44:17):
It was tough.
Speaker 5 (44:18):
It was tough. Miami is a good team, but you know,
we could have looked better last week. And sometimes you
need those low moments to give you a good push.
And I think that's what's gonna happen today. I think
it's gonna be a good a good game for sure.
The Colts are not an easy team by any means
to get by, but I think this might be the
week that we start to put things together and we uh,
(44:39):
you know, we do what we do. So, like I said,
I want to say too, I don't want to count chickens.
I don't want to count them because then if we don't,
then it's my fault, you know. But I think today's
going to be a real special day.
Speaker 3 (44:48):
From your lips to God's ears, let's go, Kofi Kingston
in the house, bring the Patriots a little luck today.
Oh yeah, thank you for stopping.
Speaker 5 (44:55):

Now live from our studios, here is Matt smith Man.
Speaker 3 (47:52):
We welcome you back inside Julette Stadium for the Patriots pregames.

to host the Indianapolis Cults. Massachusetts has made for everyone,

(48:14):
It's thirty two past the hour and it's an active
time and let's go out into the field that Julette
Stadium where we're joined by Tamara Brown who has news
on the inactives.
Speaker 7 (48:22):
Hello, Tamara, Hi, Matt and I have good news to report.
We just got the inactive's list and Pop Douglas is
at today. It's good news for the Patriots who will
have their leading receiver in receptions and yards. He will
be playing today. He was listed on the injury report
throughout the week with an ankle injury. And I can
see him out here warming out right now, all smiles
(48:43):
on his face and he's good to go.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
Okay, So, Deuce, what's the name that when you see
that list right there, what's the name that jumps off
the page for you? Sir?
Speaker 2 (48:51):
Well, Marte Maphu being in active is a little bit interesting. Course, Deabril,
it seems like Jabil Peppers's back, So Jabrill Peppers is
gonna play and Marty map who is out.
Speaker 6 (49:00):
That's an interesting one, yeah.
Speaker 7 (49:02):
Marty Mop, Yeah, it's an interesting one. There were three
linebackers listed on that injury report this week. Seven total
defensive players were on that list as questionable. So to
only have Marte Maphu on there as one of the
players who plays a ton the past couple of weeks,
I think that's a good sign. Especially because Dietrich Wise
is back. That gives a boost to this defensive line especially.
(49:22):
I talked to the defensive line coach earlier this week
and he talked about how not having Detrich Wise has
really limited the pass rush and so Jerry Montgomery said
he really been missed. So to have him back today
is a good sign for this Patriots defense. That's gonna
need to get some pressure on Anthony Richardson today and
force him into those mistakes.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
And with Wise back, the Colts offensive line has been
banged up, right, Tamara, And so is this you know,
maybe an area where the Patriots can make some hay
today with Wise back, that's a good sign and a
good place to look at.
Speaker 7 (49:52):
Yeah, I did you bring that up, Matt. I think
this is a great place for them to make some hay,
especially when you have Anthony Richardson, who's going to be
looking to make a lot of runs today, a lot
of design runs. That's his specialty. Accuracy is a big
issue for him. So when you have Dietrich's wives back.
He's second on this team in sacks. He has thirteen
pressures on the year. If you can make Anthony Richardson uncomfortable,
force him to make those throws downfield, then they can
(50:14):
make some hay and hopefully the secondary can turn away
with some takeaways.
Speaker 3 (50:18):
Okay, Tamary, you're on the field. Patriots are in their
T shirt warmups phase of pregame. Give us a little
report on what's the vibe. Tell Eric Adla, thanks for
getting this through the shot. By the way, give us
a little vibe of what's going on in the field
and what's it like in the stadium right now.
Speaker 7 (50:36):
I walked onto the field today and the first thing
I noticed is on the Patriots bench lined up down
the bench are coats. For the first time this season,
I see blue coats lined up down the bench. It's
the coldest game so far this season. Before today's game,
which is a high of thirty eight degrees, the coldest
temperature was fifty three degrees And so for me as
a Southern girly, it's a little bit cold. But it's
(50:58):
a perfect New England football type of game day today.
I would expect to see that maybe the Patriots will
run the football effectively since it's a bit colder. But
I think that was the first thing that jumped out
to me was the coats are out, the handwarmers are out.
You know, people have gloves on, hats on, scarves on.
That's the biggest thing that popped out to me.
Speaker 3 (51:15):
Okay, Tamaron, thank you very much, appreciate it. Good job
on the report, Mike. I'm a big believer in the
dome teams when they have to play outside, Sure it
affects them that a little bit. Why not, why not
let's see here today.
Speaker 2 (51:26):
It's not quite the two thousand and three or two
thousand and four AFC playoffs when Peyton Manny came to
town and it was snowing and inclement.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
But we'll take some cold weather.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
And like I said at the top, I think This
is a good, uh, you know chance for Drake made
to playing some cold weather and start to get a
you know, a sense of that from him. I mean
he's another Tamara talk about being a Southern girl. He's
a Southern boa. So hopefully he's able to deal with
the cold weather. He's gonna have to if he's gonna win.
Speaker 8 (51:50):
Here.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
Eight five five, Pats five hundred is the number here.
We want to hear from you and let's kick things
off as we get Yeah, that's just the cult real
quick though.
Speaker 2 (51:59):
I miss Josh Downs was was ruled out yesterday, but
you know he was one of Drake May's favorite guys
down there two years ago down in UNC.
Speaker 3 (52:06):
So that's a big piece for them in the slot.
He's a quick player.
Speaker 2 (52:09):
They still have speed with their young receiving core, but
certainly a little bit of a blow to them without
having Josh Downs in there today.
Speaker 3 (52:15):
Pierce the number one guy or the guy to be
concerned about most.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
Pierson Pittman, those two, yep built. Those guys got some
speed to get down downfield. Our friend Fred kirsh our
boss man, Fred kirsh All over Alec Pierce. A couple
of years ago, one of his favorite so yep, uh yeah,
we Tamara talked about it.
Speaker 3 (52:31):
You know earlier in the show.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
They're not afraid to chuck it downfield and they got
a Patriots defense.
Speaker 3 (52:35):
Got to be aware of that. Yep. All right, let's
go to the phone lines. Pat from Aguam you joined
us first this morning. Good morning, Pat, You're on the
Patriots pregame Social Field by Duncan.
Speaker 10 (52:44):
Good morning gents. How you doing today? How is it Thanksgiving?
Speaker 3 (52:47):
Fantastic much to be sayingful for thanks Patty was good? Yep.
Speaker 10 (52:51):
Yeah, Maddie, I heard you use the cheese cloth method.
Speaker 8 (52:53):
I do that.
Speaker 10 (52:53):
I've been doing that for the past few years. It
comes out great.
Speaker 6 (52:56):
Yeah, I like it.
Speaker 3 (52:58):
Well add that to the repertoire.
Speaker 10 (53:01):
Well, yeah, I just want to get in. I want
to go on a little bit of a ramp before
I get into this this week's game. But uh, for anyone,
any ignorant Patriots fan that was plamoring for the firing
of Girodmeyo or Alex Van Pelt, all I gotta say
is look to Chicago and look what's going on with
that organization and what you really want our young quarterback
to be? The physician that Caleb Williams is in right now,
(53:22):
because I don't envy the guy. And you know what
that kid's career for what they've done for it might
be over before it started. But you know that's that's
who cares. You know, they're the bears for the Patriots.
Let's get onto this week's game. Like you, Matt, I
think that a dome team coming to play a cold
weather game plays in our favor. I like our chances today.
(53:43):
I think, like you guys, touched on a lot of stuff.
We got to stack the box against these guys and
don't let don't let Taylor have a glimmer of hope
in his eyes. And when they throw the ball, I'm
I'm I want them to implore Bill Belichick's old style
this GTFB because I think there's there's going to be
plays to be made in the middle, you know, in
the intermediate and short passing game, because you know Anthony
(54:06):
Richardson will I think we'll throw us a couple of
balls and we got to catch him. But as far
as him going deep, I mean, he's he's got a
gun and they got guys that can that can separate downfield,
and to me, that's the biggest variable. You know, we
want to win this game, create some turnovers, and I
want to win this game. Like I said last week,
(54:27):
I want to see some some wins down the stretch here.
That's all I got, guys. I'll talk to you in
the pro post games.
Speaker 3 (54:33):
Thanks Pat, thanks for the phone call. And yeah, I mean,
you've got to try to make the under fifty accuracy
quarterback beat you. It's got to be job one, right, Yeah, no, totally.
Speaker 2 (54:45):
I mean, and that's what I think feeds into like
you and Paul said, with the Keys, if they're able
to get Jonathan Taylor going and he's ripping off four
or five six yards of carry, and then that takes
over for your short passing game, and then it's all
about run, run, run, play, action, deep shot. I think
that's the world that they want to try to live in.
They don't want to, you know, end up in third
and long. I think that's that's gonna be a tough
down for the Colts, trying to be good on first
(55:08):
and second down. That's what's going to keep their offense
in time.
Speaker 3 (55:11):
So and a big piece of this is.
Speaker 2 (55:13):
Jabil Pepper's coming back. I mean, you know, I don't
know what his situation was off the field. Suddenly the
NFL reinstated him. He's back this week and now he's
going to play in this game. So you know, in
terms of just on the field, I think they need him.
I think they need a player like that. I've always
liked his energy, that he brought some broad on the field.
Kyle Duggar coming off a little bit of a disappointing
performance last week. Heard from it from social media for sure,
(55:35):
people putting cutups together at him. So again, I don't
know what's going on with Peppers. I guess that there
were moving on from that now, and I think on
the field, though, they need they need that kind of player,
they need that kind of energy. I was just a
little disappointed to see him right back on the injury
report with a knee injury. So he's been out for
six weeks whatever it's been seven weeks. He's still you know,
battling and he's still a little bit banged up.
Speaker 3 (55:56):
That's unfortunate. So what's realistic. You know, we saw Map
who come off Pop and play nearly wired to wire.
Younger guy than Peppers, you know, hadn't hasn't been through
the wars, maybe that Peppers has been through. What's realistic
for Patriots fans to expect out of Peppers just from
a snap standpoint, do you think, Mike Well, I I
think he's can play a lot.
Speaker 2 (56:17):
To be honest, I think they're gonna just throw him
in there. I mean, unless the knee is is really,
you know, something significant. But I would be surprised if
he doesn't play nearly every snap right out of the gate.
If he's ready to go, he's been resting up. They
feel like he's in shape enough. He seems like the
kind of guy that looks like he's he's in pretty
good shape anyway.
Speaker 3 (56:34):
You know, I don't know. I mean a little bit
conflicted right now.
Speaker 2 (56:37):
Because it's disappointing not to see Marte Mappua in here.
I mean, this is a you know, we want to
see the young guys. We talked a lot about this
year's rookie class, last year's rooie class. I want to
see some of those guys too. I want to see
white end strong. But you know, Mapou, we all very
impressed by him playing every snap when he was forced
into that duty. But at the same time, it doesn't
seem like he's gotten his opportunities here over these last
(56:57):
couple of months with Pepper's out, it doesn't seem like
he's done.
Speaker 3 (57:00):
Enough to really seize hold of a role that they
love him in The emailer sort of expands on that
a little bit, Mike, this is from Lynden and Sounupe,
New Hampshire, who's taking their boys to the game today,
their second game. They got to tickets from their elf
on the shelf, so kudos to them talking about rebuild.
What could realistically happen today and through the end of
the season for you to develop a realistic outlook for
(57:20):
next season. We've talked maybe a little bit outnoledge about
what can the rookie receivers, rookie offensive lineman do, But
let's expand that out a little bit, you know, maybe
to help the Scots and Sennapee answer that question. What
is realistic as we play as they play out the
last five games of the year.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
Sure, I mean start really fine, Layden Robinson. They have
they have a semblance of a run game today. Leyden
Robinson's getting out leading the way, leading the charge.
Speaker 3 (57:48):
Michael and Win. You called him a maler and a brawler.
This week. Let's see some of that. Let's see some
of that. Bring a spark in the run game.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
See if they pull him a little bit and you know,
use him on some power runs, getting him in space,
you know a little bit of different between playing from
the left and right side. I'd start with him. I
think a lot of these rookies, though, even if they
have strong games, it's going to be that thing where
we get to the offseason and it's they do they
have promise or did they just have a good couple
games at the end. And that's what we'll probably spend
(58:16):
the first couple of months of the offseason trying to,
you know, determine, but get Wallace back, get Wallace in
at right tackle, sea Coel Strange at center. I mean,
these are all things Girol Meo said too. By the way,
you know again, i'd love to see Jalen Polk make
some catches. It's gonna be hard to really turn this
season around and say, well, he had x a mount
of catches over these last five games. I really believe
in him now, but I think he can do enough
(58:37):
to at least give us some feeling of there's something there.
Because I still think there's something there. It's just it's
that's one of the most confusing stories that I've had
in my time here of a player looks like they
can play and you know, just hasn't really been able.
Speaker 3 (58:50):
To find their stride. Admittedly, you say you're the defensive guy, okay,
and so at the beginning of the year, you know,
no edge rush, no barm wore, Peppers goes down. Well,
now Barber was back in his third week, Now Peppers
is back. Is it fair to try to say with
some of some reinforcements coming back that maybe they settle
things down defensively, which has been a disappointment this year,
(59:13):
and maybe they're able to find some consistency as they
go down the stretch here.
Speaker 2 (59:17):
I think so, I mean, you know, I think you
want to see Barmore continue to progress. I mean, he's
only practiced one day both of these weeks, although he
was off the injury report this week. I don't know
if that if that signifies that he's he's you know,
officially fully back and going.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
To be practicing fully down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
But yeah, no question, and I think that's you know,
a part of it, Barmore getting after the quarterback and
Pepper's I'd look at communication on the back end. I
think that was the big problem last week. A lot
of guys not on the same page. And it's maybe
a lot to ask of a guy who hasn't been
in the fire of an NFL game and you know
a couple month and a half, hasn't you know, three
practices whatever it's been for him.
Speaker 3 (59:50):
But he's a veteran, he's a captain.
Speaker 2 (59:53):
You would hope that he can help settle some of
that down and just not have the like physical breakdowns
are gonna happen. Guys are gonna make catches. The coverage
is real tight, they make a great play.
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
The proverbiill tip your cap.
Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
But at the same time, like, just don't be burning
coverages where guys are walking into the end zone and
the touch.
Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
Deshaun from Virginia is up next on the Patriots pregame
show fueled by Duncan. Good morning to Shaun, other guys,
Good morning, good morning.
Speaker 14 (01:00:16):
Hey, I do want to touch on the cold names.
A few things you gotta said earlier, like uh, when
it came on the drink may make a mistakes. I mean,
what you gotta understand is that I'm aptyonure you guys do, obviously,
is that there would be a lot more mistakes to
be made when you had to be dang there perfect
because of the situations around you. Even if you take
it for example, with the guy over there in Kansas
(01:00:38):
City with eleven one team he's legally and the sub subbliegue.
But you got understand through he's having to do so much,
you know, to try to keep his team afloat even
though defensive performing as well. Also too, they they gotta
talk about Richardson possibly make the mistake you know this,
that and the third. But you got understand too they
(01:00:59):
have made those mistakes against better personnel. The Pacers don't
have great playmakers on defense to take advantage of this
opportunity that you got we're talking about. And then on
top of that too, I don't understand why with Lottie
these fans for on the seat to continue winning when
it doesn't make sense because you can try to put
yourself in a better draft position they try to put
(01:01:21):
because I'm still I'm still bent on them possibly playing
that pick to get more picks, you know, so that
way they try to flood this roster and the guy
God's gonna be available to let those guys go. And
Sean thought this ross because Bill Buchuck can't even do
well with the Agreens pick, So what makes you think
that anybody's gonna be a do well with this group?
Speaker 3 (01:01:43):
Okay, Deshaun, thank you for the thank you for the call. There,
I get this point.
Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
I just think it's it's gonna be really hard to
trade the first overall pick this year. I don't want
the first overall pick.
Speaker 3 (01:01:51):
I'll say, you know, I think.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
It's easier when you get four or five. There's gonna
be a lot of competitions. It's better, and there's not
you know, there's there's no that prime number one overall
quarterback that I think teams are gonna be claim it for.
You're gonna get someone to mortgage the house on Travis Hunter.
Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
I'm skeptical of that.
Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
So that's why I want him to win. I'm not
tanking for a quarterback anymore. I'm great, top ten pick, great,
but I don't want the number.
Speaker 3 (01:02:14):
One overall pick.
Speaker 6 (01:02:15):
Couldn't agree more with Mike right, And you know.
Speaker 3 (01:02:17):
What they need to win for the program. You know, Mayo,
his staff, the personnel people, they need to see some
of the fruits of their labor actually happen because.
Speaker 6 (01:02:27):
There is something to be said for that.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
I think there's a ton that has to be said
for that. There's so much new that's going on here.
You know, they're preaching their program here. The people who
are in the locker room have to buy in and say, yeah,
this message is worth it, and we're winning games. Yes,
that's got to happen. And if you can't win or
not going to win against the Arizona's and the Chargers
and the Bills, you better be competitive in those games.
(01:02:51):
This six pre snap penalties thing has got to be over.
Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
Yeah, you know, I just I didn't get it. Like
last week I saw a lot of is this rock
bottom for the Patriots. I'm like, what, like, like they
still have games left, like they have to win, Like
if you go they lose today and Anthony Richardson like
tears them apart, Like I can't.
Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
That's a lot closer to rock bottom than anything last week.
Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
Losing to a Dolphins team that you haven't even really
been able to beat with two hunderd center is to me.
Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
So I think they need to show some fight.
Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
They need to earn some belief in what they're doing,
especially on the defensive side of the ball, because I
think offensively we can say there have been look that's
been fits and starts. They've taken steps back, certainly over
the last you know, four weeks, taking some step forwards.
They've taken some steps back, But defensively, I haven't seen
them take any steps forward now, So they I would
like to just at least see Anthony Richardson look sporadic
(01:03:40):
today and you know, I'll check that box like they
don't have to shut them down. I assume you know,
they're going to make some plays, but I'd like to
see some fight out of this defense. Because I don't know,
I don't have a lot of belief in them. I'll
take either a step further. I'm not condoning cheap shots
or anything after the whistle or anything like.
Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
That dark place, but I cannot condemn at home. I
want to see some energy. I want to see them
bring a backyard brawl aspect to this game. Be the aggressor,
you know, come out punching on this one. Don't get
punched before you punch first. You punch first.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
You know, it's my battle out of the basement. Key
That's exactly what I was trying to get at. Mat
you said it better than I did.
Speaker 3 (01:04:20):
All right, Paul's back coming back from your shows. What
were your shows asking you about? What wasps line for
them that they wanted to show you just one show?
Or how many shows?
Speaker 6 (01:04:30):
Were shows?
Speaker 3 (01:04:31):
Many shows? Shows and many shows?
Speaker 6 (01:04:33):
I have many skills now, just sort of generic stuff.
We talked about the inactives a little bit. Marte Mapho
kind of stood out to me. Really, is the only
the only one that stood out on that list? Just
you know, he got removed from the injury report on Friday,
(01:04:55):
you know, so it's kind of a healthy scratch. A
little surprising. I wondered, though, if you know, I don't know,
if you guys saw and you looked at it, they
listed him as an inside linebacker.
Speaker 5 (01:05:04):
I saw that.
Speaker 3 (01:05:05):
I was caught my eye, Paul.
Speaker 6 (01:05:07):
So I wondered if maybe they're looking at this as
more of a physical front seven game and you need
bigger linebackers. I don't know, I'm just grasping that struss.
But just a little surprising. Nothing, you know, nothing that
we need to spend fifteen twenty minutes on. You know,
whether Madi mapho is the difference between winning or losing,
But it's the same. I did think it was interesting,
(01:05:28):
the same theme of wanting young guys to play, you know,
a little disappointing that the last year's third round pick
not not really grasping an opportunity the certainly have while
Peppers was out. Yeah, so, and we talked about that
a little bit, and you know, kind of what Mike
talked about with Richardson, like you probably should make Richardson
look like everybody else has made Richardson look like, you know,
(01:05:49):
and if you can't, you know, like Chris Gasper brought up,
you know, this is the type of game in the
past that the defense would feast on, you know, a
young guy who's struggling to establish any consistency, erratic. You know,
this is the kind of game that you know, the
Patriots and even even in the recent past, would make
(01:06:12):
it look really bad.
Speaker 3 (01:06:14):
But as the College de Shawn brought up, the teams
that are making Richardson look bad have better personnel than
you do and maybe more ability to make him look
bad than you do, at least on paper.
Speaker 6 (01:06:26):
So but I would just argue that I don't think
the teams are making Richardson look bad. I think he's
irig making himself look better, you know what I mean?
So that to me, you know, and just not that
it matters. But I'm just looking at an NFL network
right now, and you know, three of the four you
know picked you know, guest pickers or whoever the pickers
are picked. The Colts, you know, you know, the projection
(01:06:49):
for whatever that's worth is Colts twenty one to nineteen. So, Mike,
I think you brought up something about like is this rock?
But you're like some of the things that you hear
during the course of the week that really raise your eyebrows.
I was joking around with Matt and Fred yesterday the
Globe had a little headline, you know, like if they
lose this game, they can officially be eliminated from the playoffs,
like and it was like optimism you know, for like
(01:07:11):
what like they're three and nine.
Speaker 3 (01:07:13):
Like I read that a little bit differently than you
did it.
Speaker 6 (01:07:15):
The headline is deceiving from the story.
Speaker 8 (01:07:17):
Right.
Speaker 6 (01:07:18):
In defense of the writer, yes, playoff, but it's absurd
that it was even brought up.
Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
Yeah, I took it as absurd. I was I took
it as a it's not even yet December and they're
already on the verge of mathematical eliminations.
Speaker 6 (01:07:32):
Yeah, well, then the word optimism shouldn't have been used
because there was optimism surrounding this game because they can
make a run. Like, I don't know what planet that
derived from.
Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
Could the optimism be that there's a team here that,
you know, at least on paper, is struggling and there's
an opportunity to win the game. Could that be where
the optimism is headed?
Speaker 6 (01:07:51):
Yeah, well this is kind of where I'm getting at.
So the other team's favored. You know why how much
I love these you know metrics right the FB you know,
the FPI or whatever, sixty chance for the Colts to
win the game. Like, yeah, I get it that this
(01:08:12):
is not Miami talent, this is not the Rams talent,
but you know, it's still a team. Like for some reason,
you know, as I read further along in that story
that I'm talking about that had optimism for the Patriots
potential run, what are the Colts planned for? Well, they
you know, they have remote playoffs. They're in second place, right,
(01:08:34):
they're like the first team out right now, now they
are two games out they're not going to make the playoffs,
but they're a lot closer than the Patriots. For some days,
some reason, everybody has decided that this game is like,
but this is a win win, Like I think I'm
full disclosure. We got another you know, almost forty five minutes,
you know, fifty minutes. I'm picking the Patriots today, and
(01:08:57):
the Patriots to win the game in different places. You've
already picked them, Oh yeah, I picked them for All
Access with with with you and Mike.
Speaker 3 (01:09:03):
What about on Wednesday?
Speaker 6 (01:09:04):
I picked them on Thursday? Oh yeah, Wednesday when we
did our picks. Like, I'm picking the Patriots to win
the game, correct, But I didn't put a motage payment
on it or anything. I don't feel great about it.
Speaker 3 (01:09:14):
How could you. I feel like a lot of.
Speaker 6 (01:09:17):
People around here think this is a foregone conclusion, right,
this game's a win, right, Like, I don't know how
you can feel like that.
Speaker 3 (01:09:24):
I just don't la la la, just fingers and ears like,
I don't know. All right, here's here's what I want
to bring up. And I'm loathe in some ways to
bring it up because I think it's kind of a
loser's lament in some ways, but with five games to go,
and we talk about, you know, the coaches talking is
identifying players that he wants to try to get a
better read on. We need to see more out of
(01:09:46):
him to see what we have in things like that.
Here's my question for you, and it's a little bit
from the Dan Campbell which I can't believe I'm even
using his name school. Do you think over the last
five weeks, with the playoffs not in the picture for
the Patriots, that there's a let's just go forward attitude
that maybe needs to come out. I'm not talking about
being irresponsible and on you know, fourth and one from
(01:10:08):
your ten, Shoot, let's go for it. But do you
think that there needs to be maybe a little bit
more aggressiveness as they're playing out these last five games
because here's not a playoff spot on the line here.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Yeah, I got a hundred percent. And that's I think
it's been lacking a little bit. I mean, I think
it sends a message to the players that the coaches
are Look, look, I believe in you guys. We're just
going to go for it like we're not. You know,
there's no reason to tiptoe around this thing. We know
what this season is shaped up to be, and let's
just put pressure on the other team that they know
if it's fourth and short, if they're you know, is
a we're going to be aggressive here down the end,
(01:10:43):
because especially when you're going to those last four games
where you know then you're really playing a team of
teams that you know have more talent than you, and
you know, can I say the game could.
Speaker 6 (01:10:52):
Get away from you?
Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
So I yeah, I absolutely agree, And I think they've
been one foot in, one foot out though yes, handful.
Speaker 6 (01:10:57):
I think they need to be more aggressive period. I
don't think because they're three and nine they need to
be more aggressive. I think that they're I think the
way Mike said it is right like they're one foot in,
one foot out a lot, and I like to I'd
like to see them sort of And I'm not suggesting
that you should have one rule of thumb on fourth down, no,
like go for it every time, but I feel like
(01:11:18):
similar situations, they've done it both ways. Yeah, and I
don't I'd like to see a little bit more consistency.
Speaker 3 (01:11:24):
Like you coined a phrase about a month ago, quite
original and I but I come back to it because
I think it makes so much sense. You want your
team to be a pain in the ass. Yeah, And
that's part of being a pain in the ass. The
other opponent going, oh, what are they gonna do here?
I don't know, catch them off guardle look, Oh, these
guys are gonna go forward here, They're gonna show an aggressiveness.
I think that's all part about being a pain in
the ass, don't you sure? Absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
I think it's it's what's probably one of the parts
you can actually control, you know, whereas otherwise you're talking
about your team is playing with a lot of energy
for a three win team that you wouldn't really expect,
you know, to come out and play hard and to
try to get a win at home to like you said,
set the tone right out of the gate, like you know,
we're here to play today and you're not gonna run
the ball on us. I think that's the that's the
message out of the gate that we're gonna win the
(01:12:06):
line of scrimmage. And with this Patriots team, it's so obvious,
like we've seen you've seen them probably I don't know,
maybe four times this year, the preseason game, a couple
of games they won this year.
Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
Where it's like Chicago.
Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
This defense playing hard today, Like they just look like
they're on today, and you know, coverage looks pretty good,
and you know the coverages work. You know the brush
is working in conjunction with itself. You can feel it again.
It's been three or four times this year, but they've
shown that they're capable of that effort. I'd like to
just see it out of the gate and for a
full sixty minutes. That's what it's gonna take for them
to win this game today.
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Bridgetone, the official tire the Wing of Patriots, is proud
to partner with Sullivan Tire, New England's headquarters for quality.
Bridgetone Tires visits olivantire dot com to find a location
near you. What do you think? Time for a little
over under Matt.
Speaker 4 (01:12:51):
It's time for this week's edition of over Unders.
Speaker 3 (01:12:56):
Okay, what a week Paul had last week out? Paul,
are you gonna crow?
Speaker 6 (01:13:02):
It's just a regular week. Uh, five and one for me,
four and two for Mike and no socks. So good
week for everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:13:10):
Um, it means everything was pretty obvious. You're well over
the Mendoza line twenty six and twenty six for Paul,
forty three and twenty nine for Matt and thirty nine
and thirty three for Mike. Mike got to pick it up.
Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
Oh that's a forty three.
Speaker 6 (01:13:22):
Okay, Yeah, it's a forty three for damn it.
Speaker 3 (01:13:24):
I thought I was winning for a second there, all right, Um,
So let's kick things off with Dre May passing yards
at two twenty one point five.
Speaker 6 (01:13:35):
Paul, I will take the over on that.
Speaker 3 (01:13:42):
Yeah, I'll go I'll go over on that one too.
Then I guess to separate, I'm gonna take the under
in that.
Speaker 6 (01:13:49):
So just real quick, man, I'm okay. We'll we'll finish
these and then we'll get well.
Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
Anthony richardson passing touchdowns, Draftking number is at one point five, Michael,
I'm gonna roll the dice on this one. I'm gonna
go under.
Speaker 6 (01:14:05):
I'm gonna take the under.
Speaker 3 (01:14:06):
Also three for three on the under Drake May turnovers
and the number is the same one and a half Paul.
Speaker 6 (01:14:15):
That's where I'm gonna roll the dice and take the under.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
I will roll it as well and go under and hopefully.
Speaker 6 (01:14:20):
Breaking my rule here. My rule is trend trends.
Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
The trend here.
Speaker 6 (01:14:25):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Yeah, I'm gonna go under with you, guys. I want
to think Drake, make want to believe in Drake, right,
Austin Hooper hoop questions at two and a Hey, Mike,
hold on just a little that come back out. I'm okay. Uh,
(01:14:47):
I'm gonna go over because we love Hooper. Here he
drives the boat, Paul.
Speaker 6 (01:14:53):
Yeah, you know what I'm gonna say, over as well.
Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
That's three catches. Huh, Yeah, I don't see it. I'm
gonna go under. All right, here's the one right for you, Mike.
Jonathan Taylor rushing yards at eighty and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
Dear, dear, that's a pretty good number. I know they
held him under that last year, but I think this
year he's gonna get over that.
Speaker 3 (01:15:16):
I'm gonna go over on that one.
Speaker 6 (01:15:18):
Paul, I'm gonna take the over as well. I just
think that's the Colts way to get offense going is
leonon Jonathan Taylor.
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
Can they can he get over and the Patriots still
stop the running game?
Speaker 7 (01:15:30):
Mike?
Speaker 3 (01:15:31):
Can both things happen?
Speaker 6 (01:15:32):
Depends on how many carries it takes them to get over.
Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
Yeah, I think I'm gonna go over as well. Last,
and not least NFL Network, he said, had a score
of twenty one to nineteen. Paul, is that with a
score that you saw, Yes, So the total score on
this is right in that neighborhood at forty two and
a half.
Speaker 6 (01:15:50):
Paul, Yeah, I'll take the over just slightly.
Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
Michael. Yeah, I'm gonna get crazy. I'm gonna go under
on this one. I'm gonna join mister Dusseau and go
under as well.
Speaker 6 (01:15:59):
Tell you, you know, we have to hope for Mike.
We have to hope that Matt has a bad day
in the over runners, because that's not a game I
want to watch with all those unders under under under
under under, Like, that's not a game I have any
interest in watching the game.
Speaker 3 (01:16:14):
You've been watching a lot. I was gonna say, you know,
back to the phone lines, eight five five Pats five
hundred is the number. Seawan from Vancouver, Canada joins us
next to the Patriots pregame Social Fuel by duncan heishan Bie.
Speaker 15 (01:16:29):
You know, I'd love when I'm not as optimistic as
as you guys. But for me, the real important thing
is to see Drake may bounce back, have a better game,
make us some plays, and and and actually see some
other players step forward, you know, and so we can
move with this rebuild a little bit easier than just
(01:16:49):
Gonzo and Drake May because if it's that, it's going
to be fairly challenging. So I'm I'm hoping a few
players can step up and focus and and cut down
on those pre snap penalties.
Speaker 3 (01:16:59):
So go pad love it, thanks Sean. Here's match to
nominee for somebody to step up today. It's not against
the rules for Ramandre Stevenson to have a good game,
is it not within the rules? Wouldn't it? Wouldn't that be?
That would be a pleasant, great development, wouldn't it. Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:17:14):
I mean, just love to see him get untracked and
be able to get out of the backfield without getting hit, right,
you know, let him get a little bit of momentum going.
Speaker 3 (01:17:22):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
Maybe, like I said, maybe Leydon Robinson brings a spark
in some way in the run game. I mean, it's
you know, you're kind of throwing darts at things right
now with positive developments you're hoping for. But that's that's
one that I think is reasonable.
Speaker 6 (01:17:33):
Yeah, it's been tough, like I know that people have
been on him, you know, but when you consistently get
hit in the backfield every play, it's hard, I mean
not back like and I like, and I say that
I I have been tough on him. I had him
on the bad list I think two weeks ago, and
I stand by it. But it's hard to get any
semblance of a running game going when you're getting hit
(01:17:55):
consistently in the backfield.
Speaker 2 (01:17:56):
Especially for him, Like, I don't think he's one of
those bads, Like he's not quite the Garrett Blunt like
where he was, Like if he got touched in the backfield,
you knew it wasn't going anywhere. Like Vermander does have
a little bit of of ability to get out of guys,
but he's not one of those jump cut, miss go
kind of kind of backs. And right, I think they
got they got to block it up for him.
Speaker 3 (01:18:15):
This is a Gus Bradley defense who's a decoordinator. Yeah, right,
So what does what does that mean? What do they
what do they do to counter that?
Speaker 2 (01:18:27):
Cover three, cover three sideways, you know, try to get
try to attack them horizontally, get them, you know, they
want to stay kind of in their lanes and go back.
This was part of the plan going back to when
they faced this, you know the original part of this
defense in twenty fourteen of you know, trying to get
them to cover sideline to sideline and get them move inside.
So maybe you know, Pop Douglas, Kendrick Bourne, those kind
of guys that run those crossing routes. I think I
(01:18:50):
think that's what they'll try to get going.
Speaker 3 (01:18:51):
What about a back out of the backfield. I'lla Shaneveren
if you're going to go that route in twenty fourteen,
Tonio Gibson baby right time to finally unleash him in
the passing game.
Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (01:19:00):
I mean, is that a way to kind of counter
the Bradley scheme? I think a little bit sure, sure
part of it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:04):
I mean, obviously Shane Veren had had a huge game
in that in that Super Bowl. But anything they could
do to get it going, And you know, I think,
really like I said, with Antonio Gibson, it's just I
think he's shown some bursts here and there, and I'd
like to see him get targeted in the pass game
a little bit more.
Speaker 3 (01:19:20):
Kendall from North Carolina is next to the Patriots pregame
show fueled by Duncan Good afternoon, Kendall.
Speaker 6 (01:19:28):
It's up, Kendall.
Speaker 16 (01:19:28):
Hey, Hey, I gotta agree with Paul on y'all l
ass on this segment. Want to go. I think Paul
hit the nail right on the head when he said, like,
I've been seeing a lot of people, like a lot
of articles and media people saying like this game or
here is a is a win, they should win this game.
I actually think the Colts are an underrated team. They
got talent. I don't think it's just gonna be a
I mean just a just an automatic win for the Patriot.
(01:19:50):
I've been seeing a lot of people during the week
and I'm just on shows just saying this, like this
is like they're not even seen as a mus win,
but they're just saying this is the most wonnerable one
and we should win this one. I just I don't
get what everybody's saying. I agree with Paul, but I
appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (01:20:05):
All right, thanks Kendall. I guess I'm not reading or
seeing the same stuff that Paul saying, and maybe mine's
a little bit more nuanced.
Speaker 6 (01:20:12):
I think that's why I send these things to you guys,
because I because no one ever believes me when I
say that.
Speaker 3 (01:20:17):
No, I've just I think again they were They're a
lot closer from a fighting standpoint. I don't know that
they're you know, out of their weight class. Maybe going
up against the Colts a little bit closer from a
talent level. Maybe that's what you want to find out.
Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
I mean, I would say, independent of opponents, I don't
know how you could watch this team play this year
and feel like they're a lock against anybody.
Speaker 3 (01:20:40):
It's just the quarter regardless of you know.
Speaker 6 (01:20:42):
Yeah, it's just the quarterback. To me, otherwise that this
is another game you would you would say, I'll take
the Colt, I'll take the Cult, I'll take the Colt.
But the quarterback is so erratic that he keeps you
in the game. So that to me is why this
is such a winnable game. That's why how I expect
them to win the game today. And what happened last
(01:21:04):
week too when the guy surgically just you know, chewed
you up in Tua, right, well, anybody, but the week before,
like they haven't stopped anybody. They stopped Cincinnati and they
stopped the Bears. Every other game they've been systematically taken
apart this guy. I don't think is capable of systematically
taking you apart, which is what the team is, which
is why you can maybe stay in the game. The
(01:21:24):
team is more than capable. Yeah, and they're missing their
best receiver today. That's also a reason why I think
that the Pots have a better shot with Josh Downs
being out. You know, I think if you had all
three of those guys, I think the chances are that
they would make enough places.
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
And if they get Jonathan Taylor going, it won't even matter.
Speaker 6 (01:21:42):
And Alec Pierce is also banged up, so you know
he's gonna play, but I don't know how.
Speaker 3 (01:21:47):
Because Fred's here. He wants to show Fred.
Speaker 6 (01:21:49):
Right, that's one of Fred's guys.
Speaker 3 (01:21:51):
Here's a twenty yard average catch guy. Oh yeah, staggering numbers, right.
Speaker 6 (01:21:57):
Yeah, but not a lot of catches, but yeah, he
has a very healthy yards pretty catch. I think it's
over twenty but on twenty seven catches, twenty three point
three yards, like that's that's a high average.
Speaker 2 (01:22:13):
I got a little bit of a question, a little
off the beaten path for the moment, But you know,
I was watching Jonathan Jones playing more and more safety,
and so I'm wondering today is Jonathan Jones playing safety,
mean he's kind of a safety now, does it mean
that they were worried about communication and they were playing
him more at safety? Now with you brill Peppers back,
does he still play safety? Does he go back to cornerback?
(01:22:34):
I just wanted these questions in terms of next year
because Jonathan Jones is a free agent, and I just
I'm curious if the team is seeing him start to
make that transition where older cornerbacks suddenly become more safety interesting.
Speaker 6 (01:22:45):
My guess is he'd be back at corner today with
with Doug m Peppers.
Speaker 3 (01:22:49):
But yeah, something to just watch for because it's it's
Gonzales and Marcus Jones. Who's you you should have him?
He should be playing in the slot.
Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
Were big guys today, size match, you know, size disadvantage against.
Speaker 3 (01:23:04):
These both much bigger, bigger, So what are they What
do you do to combat that? You can't? You know,
they're not going to stretch him out.
Speaker 2 (01:23:12):
No, I mean you kind of just have to stick
with who you have. I think Boike Paul's thing is,
maybe you know, Jonathan Jones isn't.
Speaker 3 (01:23:17):
A big guy, but he's a little bit bigger and
he's got a little more savvy.
Speaker 2 (01:23:20):
But I just I just that that's more of just
a question about the player and what direction the player's trending.
And you know, we get to the off season, do
we talk about him as a cornerback still or is
it let's keep him around It plays like a safety role, right.
Speaker 3 (01:23:31):
Do you see that with Pepper's back. Do you see
that there's any difference from a scheme standpoint man versus zone.
Speaker 2 (01:23:40):
No, I think this is a this is a man
defense there. They're still like second most man snaps in
the league, So this is that's what they're gonna do.
It's what I think they're best at. I wish they
had a little bit more depth in the secondary cornerback
just to deal with some of these matchups. In a
perfect world, Isaiah Bolden, who's a bigger guy, could you know,
emerge as a cornerback.
Speaker 3 (01:23:56):
But he's a special teamer, so uh yeah, I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
I don't see a big schematic difference. I think it
just comes down to winning up front and keeping Jonathan
Taylor contained. And if they're able to do that and
stop the run, then I think they'll put Richardson in
positions where he's going to make mistakes and bad throws.
Speaker 6 (01:24:11):
Yeah, the thing that Tamara mentioned earlier about how much
more they're running him on design runs Richardson, I'm interested
in that today too, to see how that manifests. And
Patriots really haven't seen that. Tomaraw is right about that
they haven't seen I don't know if they've really seen
any of the designed quarterback run game this year.
Speaker 2 (01:24:30):
Yeah, just a little bit Pelgrino this week. I mean,
that's the cornerbacks not have to tackle this big guy.
You know, that's a challenge for some of these smaller cornerbacks.
Speaker 3 (01:24:36):
And they're tackling hasn't been on point the last few weeks.
They haven't tackled very well. This is, you know, a
beast physically, at least when he runs.
Speaker 2 (01:24:45):
And it's funny because I saw a stat saying, you
know that the tackling has actually been better.
Speaker 3 (01:24:50):
But I'm like, they can't even get the third down.
Speaker 2 (01:24:52):
So it's hard to judge when you know it's first second,
first second, first second, touchdown. You know it's you're you're
maybe you're tackling guys okay, but you're not making stops.
And that's that's the big big thing.
Speaker 3 (01:25:02):
Do you need a spy with Richardson, I don't think so.
I don't know. I mean he just doesn't he's not
an off platform or I mean in the right situation.
Speaker 6 (01:25:13):
I don't sure how much is he scrambling to run
as opposed to running by design, because if he's scrambling
to run, you need a spy. And I don't do
you keep doing it with Schooler. I mean you only
had I think it's up to seven snaps now two sacks.
Speaker 2 (01:25:27):
Yeah, I think there probably will be a time for it.
But yeah, like I said, they had ten ten design
runs in each of the last two games for him,
which were I think he had eleven earlier in the season,
but was generally lower five around there, and he's following
a guard or a tackle into the hole at that point,
so that zone situations had.
Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
A couple of touchdowns down there, close to it. Close.
Speaker 6 (01:25:47):
Yeah, No, No, the spy would be in passing situations,
not in design runs. Correct, Yeah, you're right about that.
Speaker 3 (01:25:53):
You could email the show at podcasts at Patriots dot com.
Clear from the UK, writes in Hi everyone, and there
was you marine always listening Hooper with more than three catches,
Paul and Deuce yes, Matt, I'm not happy with you.
I jest, but I do love my tight endage. Claire
is going with she must have watched the National Football
League Network. She's got the Patriots winning. Oh no reverse,
(01:26:15):
excuse me, the Patriots with a twenty one to nineteen
win today as opposed to NFL Network, which had it reversed. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:26:24):
I mean, I think that's the kind of game we're
looking at. You know, low twenties, lois, you know, high teens,
something like that feels more like I hate to say it,
and they overuse this phrase a bunch, I think, but
this feels a little bit more like a tractor pull,
doesn't it. Y Yes, Yeah, I mean I mean unless
I don't think it's gonna be I think.
Speaker 3 (01:26:42):
McAfee punting still for the culture that they have somebody else.
Speaker 6 (01:26:45):
I mean, I don't think the Colts are all that
great on defense. I mean, I'm a little worried about
the interior. I'm worried about Buckner and Stuart, and I
worried about the Patriots getting one dimensional like they have been.
You know, you know a lot of these starts that
Drake may has had. But I think because they get
down I think may can be well, no, because they
can't run the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:27:05):
Right, But that meant I was supposed to be a question.
I apologize.
Speaker 6 (01:27:09):
Yeah, no, it wasn't necessarily because because of the game situations,
they haven't been able to run the ball really since
the very very beginning of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:27:17):
So what do you do today, then, Paul? Do you
try to come and make playing your head against the
wall and try to run the ball to say.
Speaker 6 (01:27:23):
We're going to run for the Patriots? Yeah, no, I
do that if I'm the Colts because they can't throw
it correct. The Patriots can throw it right, I think.
Speaker 7 (01:27:29):
So.
Speaker 6 (01:27:29):
I think May Is own you enough over the last
seven games that I feel pretty good when he has
the ball in his hands. I don't feel great, but
I feel pretty good.
Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
So you go five wide, chuck and duck and try
to get a lead. Yeah, the.
Speaker 6 (01:27:41):
Three short of being able to go five wide. So
but yeah, no, like Mike said, with the you know,
the the cover three, the Gus Bradley thing, I can
absolutely see to Mario Douglas catching some crosses, maybe even
Kayshaan Booty on those slants that he's been pretty effective with. Sure, Hunter, Henry,
I think could be a big factor today. I think
the Colts defense has struggled against tight ends. I think
(01:28:04):
throw the ball, Yeah, throw the ball. I think they can.
I mean I I'm looking at twenty four, twenty four
to twenty something like that. I don't necessarily think this
is a thirteen to ten slog. I think the teams
will be able to move the ball a little bit
and score some points. I'm hoping. I'm hoping we get
some some action.
Speaker 3 (01:28:25):
I feel like the order of can't make me do
this anymore, Matt.
Speaker 6 (01:28:27):
You can't make me do another thirteen to ten game,
like I can't do it ten six last year.
Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
And I know that we're talking about the cold, but
there's no precipitation. There's no reason why, Like everything's so.
Speaker 6 (01:28:39):
Out because that's when we started doing the over unders
and I said I and I wanted to talk about it.
That's that is something, you know, Mike, you had the
whole thing about the last four or five games. You know,
get the rookies and see the players get the roster.
I want to see Drake May playing bad weather.
Speaker 3 (01:28:52):
Yea, Now it's not going to happen today because it's
your Matt's right it's it's pretty nice day today. It's cold, right,
but it doesn't seem overly windy.
Speaker 6 (01:28:59):
I'm interested. You guys talked to Samara when I was
doing my chin wag, but the winds because it was
no wind walking to the parking lot at all. Now,
sometimes that can be deceiving. It can be a little
bit windy or inside the bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:29:12):
Then that is Foxborough, Massachusett.
Speaker 6 (01:29:14):
Yeah, well there's no like if it's not overly windy.
I'm not sure you're going to learn much today. But
both Richardson and May you know North Carolina, Florida, they
didn't play a lot of games in bad weather. Mike,
you and I. I don't know if you know, Matt,
but Mike and Mike and I talked to Drake May
a day after he was drafted, right here in this
very studio.
Speaker 3 (01:29:35):
Thank you, Peter.
Speaker 6 (01:29:37):
I texted with Drake May.
Speaker 12 (01:29:39):
No.
Speaker 6 (01:29:39):
He he told us like, I've never really played in
bad weather.
Speaker 2 (01:29:42):
Well, between this one and then up at Buffalo and
then the last two here in Foxborough.
Speaker 6 (01:29:47):
Last three games figure to be bad weather. And I'm
I'm just to see him play in bad weather.
Speaker 7 (01:29:52):
Now.
Speaker 6 (01:29:52):
Both of these guys have the arm strength that bad
weather shouldn't be a huge problem.
Speaker 3 (01:29:58):
But but does he look cold? Paul, that's the question.
He I don't want him to look cold. I want
him to walk out there like.
Speaker 6 (01:30:04):
No sleeves on, like you can mock me when ed
up happening, he looked cold.
Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
This is this isn't referendum to Mac in the wind
game in Buffalo where he came out and looked like
he could.
Speaker 3 (01:30:16):
Not have looked at Mike said cold like he looks cold,
he's got no shot to And evidently Bill Belichick agreed
because they had him thrown three passes right.
Speaker 14 (01:30:27):
Here.
Speaker 3 (01:30:28):
They are all right throw back. You need to look
at look at red and white white leaves. Drake got
the arms out, suns out, guns out. Cold not a
factor for Drake Maye. You heard it. Yeah, it's a
sharp look in Uni, sharp look in Uni. All right,
we're talking about Drake may mentioning Anthony Richardson in designed runs.
And while I'm not looking for the Patriots to scheme
(01:30:49):
up designed runs for Drake may his running numbers have
gone down. Is there something I have? They have teams
accounted for his scrambling ability, whether and in making sure
that they contain him and not letting him get outside.
So those numbers are down. What's what is happening where
he's less of a threat from a.
Speaker 2 (01:31:11):
From a scrambling standpoint, Yeah, a VP said, not noticing
teams a little bit more lain integrity, not not allowing
those spots for him to scort out.
Speaker 3 (01:31:19):
But that's you know, the benefit of having a quarterback
like this.
Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
You're giving the other team something to think about going
into the game, a game plan point that they need
to be on top of in certain situations or else
the Patriots and Drake may are going to get an advantage.
Speaker 3 (01:31:33):
So I think it's a good thing.
Speaker 2 (01:31:35):
I think we all agree that we want to see
Drake may continue to developing the pocket, throwing the ball,
getting it out quick.
Speaker 3 (01:31:39):
That's when we get so excited about him.
Speaker 2 (01:31:42):
You know, he can deliver plays when things break down,
when he has to get outside the pocket, when you
know there's some chaos.
Speaker 3 (01:31:47):
You're you know, but you don't. You can't live off
those moments.
Speaker 2 (01:31:50):
So that's you know, everybody I think agrees on that point.
At these last five games, if you see him completing
a lot of passes from the pocket, getting the ball
out quick, identifying the defense, knowing where to go with
the ball, being confident. Those things I think signal his
development really taking another step forward.
Speaker 3 (01:32:07):
We mentioned Gibson and maybe a potential role for him
in the passing game against this Gus Bradley cover three defenses.
That's right, right about that? Good?
Speaker 6 (01:32:14):
Good man?
Speaker 3 (01:32:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:32:15):
Good?
Speaker 3 (01:32:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:32:16):
Good.
Speaker 3 (01:32:17):
So maybe he can you know, maybe he can get
one on one against the will you know, and you're not, no,
but it would be a welcome sign to see something
some of that, you know, mix that up, you know. Yeah,
he's another weird one this year.
Speaker 2 (01:32:32):
Like I think he's had some sparks where moments like
he looks like he's got some some some juice to him,
and he just hasn't really been able to have that
that complete game I'd say, But I think he's a
pretty good little player. I just I just I'm confused
because I think we all thought, I mean, he came
into the league, it was still a question he might
be actually receiver. That's been his talent, you know, is
his number one skill set catching the ball out of
(01:32:54):
the backfield, and he just hasn't been a big part
of that. They doesn't seem like they're really trying to
key him on that either. It just seems like they
kind of Remandre Gibson, whoever it is, you're kind of
doing the same stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:33:04):
Okay, So that's another word, Mike, for consistency, right, m
I always try to listen when people are talking and
listen to what they're saying. And when I hear you
say that, this question comes to mind. Who are the
Patriots this year who have performed consistently and I'm I
mean have performed well, yeah, consistently.
Speaker 2 (01:33:25):
It's not a long list, nor in the words of
Claire Hunta Henry Hunt Hunt Henry that's my birth sad
Hunter Henry.
Speaker 3 (01:33:31):
For sure, he's been one.
Speaker 6 (01:33:33):
He'd be one that shows up absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:33:35):
Christian Gonzalez has been consistent.
Speaker 6 (01:33:36):
Has he'd be one?
Speaker 3 (01:33:38):
Yep?
Speaker 6 (01:33:38):
Okay, I would put key on White in the list.
I think he's hit. You know, the stats, the numbers
haven't been but I think his play has been pretty
consistent most weeks. Gotsha sure, Yeah, yeah, I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:33:54):
It's just hard when you see him.
Speaker 6 (01:33:56):
It's hard when you get up the amount of rushing
yachts that they give up and you're rushing run defense specialist.
But I think he's probably been pretty good, right.
Speaker 3 (01:34:03):
And that that's is that it from a consistency standpoint,
And I think that that in that tells a lot
about the story of the twenty twenty four Patriots. That
you get a flash from somebody here or another flash
from somebody there, but there's not enough people in the
same boat pulling in the same direction right where consistency
that the coaching staff can count on anything.
Speaker 6 (01:34:24):
So what you're asked to do, you know, there's probably
a couple others that you would throw in there, you know,
I think Mark Jones, So what you're asked to do,
I think probably Austin Hooper. You know, he's has to
be a number two receiver, and he's been that, you know,
most most of the time. But really it's hard, I mean,
like consistently, it's hard. They've had some some of those
(01:34:46):
guys have had really good games and some really bad ones. Yeah,
And I think it gets a little bit more harder
and more telling when you look at it through the
guys that they signed this offseason to multi year deals,
and when you look at those guys that got three
four year deals through a variety of you know, Barmore
got blood clots.
Speaker 2 (01:35:03):
I mean, he didn't expect that. Pepper's had his off
field situation. He's been out too, But doesn't everybody almost
have an excuse. So I hate to say, you know,
those are the two excuses. But when you I wouldn't
say he doesn't have an excuse for for his inconsistencies,
and I.
Speaker 6 (01:35:17):
Would I agree with you. Would think Mike would tell
you that Douggar doesn't have any hurt a little bit.
But you know, to Vy, these guys haven't played as
well as they have in the past. You know, maybe
you could give tavay and out because he was asked
to do some different things us you know, maybe he
had to play out of position, so that could be
Steve Stevenson. Stevenson's production has gone down again, same thing.
(01:35:39):
You could point to reasons, but you know, all the
receivers have been wildly inconsistent, right, you know, Born Douglas, but.
Speaker 2 (01:35:48):
Bourne has Bourne has an injury, you know, a while
to get back right, but then but still then then
and then you're getting like mental problems with him of
him not being able to grasp you know, certain plays
or you know, just brain farts. I think that's you're
expecting him to like come back in and just assimilate
and become the guy he was last year. And you know,
it's been more bumpy than you thought it would be
(01:36:09):
with him too. And he's another one of the guys
that you re signed and you know you're having issues
that you maybe didn't foresee when you wanted to lock
those guys up as being your your core to build around.
Speaker 3 (01:36:20):
Our friend Mike Reese noted today about a locker change.
This is where we're this is where we're going. Uh,
you know, this is what it's come to, where somebody
get him the quarterbacks? Where is somebody lockering these days?
It's tough when their team is three and nine. But
he meant mentioned that Polk is going to be lockering
near Born is born a mentor type. I mean on
(01:36:41):
this team he is because of age, but by default,
isn't it kind of?
Speaker 2 (01:36:46):
I mean, you love Bourne's energy, but at this senst
of the time, like you know, he's had his own
things that he's had to battle with consistency too.
Speaker 6 (01:36:52):
So I did like it that it was funny because
I did read that and you think, oh, yeah, if
they want the veteran receiver to be a mentor. And
then in that same group of notes, Mike has this
whole thing passage about how Bourne's route running is not
consistent and he's not where he's supposed to be.
Speaker 3 (01:37:09):
On a key fourth downplays ironic, isn't it?
Speaker 6 (01:37:11):
You know? So yeah, I do think it falls into
the latter of your question, Matt. Not that I think
he's a bad you know, he's a bad presence by
any means. No, his his energy is infectious. I think
he's got a good attitude, but I don't think that
necessarily his discipline and his route running and his side
and knowing you know, being locked down, buttoned back, like,
(01:37:33):
I don't think that's where.
Speaker 8 (01:37:34):
It needs to be.
Speaker 3 (01:37:35):
And So when we've talked for a majority part of
this show about what is Gerardmeyo and the staff looking
for over these last five weeks, who is that someone
or someone's because it's more than a one person job.
Who can police that locker room, who can be the
veteran presence in there that can you know, be the
coach's advocate and have people you know do the things
(01:37:58):
and say this is what you need to do. You know,
you mentioned Jonathan Jones, and again it's it's more additioned
by subtraction. There aren't many of those guys left around anymore.
Jonathan Jones, just by attrition, is one of those guys.
But there aren't a lot of them there, you know.
And who by their play on the field, their play
on the practice field, what they do in the meeting rooms,
(01:38:21):
who's a candidate to be there and say this person
does things the right way? Follow him?
Speaker 2 (01:38:26):
Yeah, I mean, I you know, as you get farther
away from the Super Bowl Championship Patriots teams, it's just
you wonder that corp is gone now and some of
these guys that were here for some of it, I
don't know how much.
Speaker 3 (01:38:38):
Their message continues to ring true.
Speaker 2 (01:38:40):
I mean, it just reflects back on how what a
crazy amount of leadership you had on some of those
Patriots teams in the past, and certainly in that early
dynasty period when you had a defense where you know,
it wasn't just Willie McGuinness and Teddy Bruski and Rodney Harrison,
and you know, those guys by themselves were the kind
of leaders that I'm not sure this team has right now.
And you had a bunch of them, and not to
(01:39:02):
mention your quarterbacks, your best player who's working.
Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
Harder than everybody else.
Speaker 2 (01:39:06):
So you see how that chemistry all comes together, and
you know, success begets success. And those guys were successful
even in the late nineties with Pete and had a
little bit of cachet to them even at that point
when they became the dynasty, And you know, this team
needs to win games so that the coaches message ring true,
so that the veteran players message ring true, because at
(01:39:28):
a certain point, look.
Speaker 11 (01:39:29):
We do it.
Speaker 3 (01:39:29):
We go into the law locker room, the REVS locker room.
Speaker 2 (01:39:31):
We hear from these guys, and you know, it's exhausting
losing games and saying the same thing every week, and
you know, hearing the choir, are you guys close to
turn in the corner?
Speaker 3 (01:39:39):
Like they're pouring everything they have into this. And I
heard Jonathan Jones say a variety of variation of what
you just said, like he's not used to these kinds
of years, you know, so it's tough for him. You know,
in fairness mentioned a couple guys that they were counting
on in those roles. But when Andrews goes out and
when Bentley goes out, huge their presence on the sideline
and sporadically when they can be around, but they're missing
(01:40:01):
them on a full time basis, and that certainly doesn't
help the cause as well.
Speaker 2 (01:40:05):
I just wonder too, It's it's hard like you like
having those guys around, but I just I'm not sure
injured players who aren't stepping in between the white lines
have the same ability to hold everyone a capture little
when theyre's just in the lofer room saying guys, this
is what.
Speaker 3 (01:40:16):
We gotta do. Yep, all right, Matt, let's go to
the Sunday six pack.
Speaker 2 (01:40:19):
Please, this is the Sunday six pack, So kick back
and listen them up, posising up, getting to.
Speaker 3 (01:40:24):
Getting the pits back.
Speaker 4 (01:40:25):
You better bring a big stack, get a mixed jack game,
but win it.
Speaker 3 (01:40:28):
Yet, this is the Sunday sixth bad. Are there enough
games to actually be played today on Sunday? I mean
there was what seven games on Thursday? Another four on
Friday like the other Sunday games.
Speaker 9 (01:40:40):
I think they got enough.
Speaker 7 (01:40:41):
Math.
Speaker 6 (01:40:41):
It's a full slate this week, full slate this week.
Speaker 3 (01:40:44):
Okay, if they could play one o'clock games because everybody's
playing on Tuesday and Wednesday, all right, one o'clock. Let's
start at one o'clock with a six and five Arizona
Cardinals travel to Minnesota to take on the nine and
two Vikings, and the Vikings are three point favorites. Mike
(01:41:04):
scoll give me the Vikings in this one. I just
I'm worried.
Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
I think Arizona's falling apart a little bit here at
the end of the season. So I'm gonna go Minnesota
at home.
Speaker 3 (01:41:13):
Paul.
Speaker 6 (01:41:14):
Before I do that, I will just say that last week,
no socks five and one.
Speaker 3 (01:41:19):
Paul's five and two.
Speaker 17 (01:41:20):
Who's right, Yeah, it's five and only six games.
Speaker 6 (01:41:25):
There's only six games in the six pack five and one.
Paul was four and two, Mike was three and three,
So this he's and standings. Paul takes the lead with
a pathetic thirty four to thirty six and two record.
Mike thirty three thirty seven or two Matt thirty two
thirty eight in two.
Speaker 3 (01:41:41):
Paul, my apologize for not getting the stats out of
the way first.
Speaker 6 (01:41:44):
I apologize, no biggie uh, and I'm gonna be with
Mike and take the Vikings. I still think the Cardinals
are okay, but I do wonder if they're in that
little late season thing. There was only one loss in Seattle,
not an easy place for them to play. But I
have my eye on the Cardinals as we had to December.
Speaker 3 (01:42:04):
And aside and aside, they're on alert. Help educate me
on why Daniel Jones chose Minnesota. Oh, you have to
just pick up some good vibes from Kevin O'Connell. Maybe
I'm not sure exactly what he did, but I guess
seeing some opportunity there. I don't know. I mean JJ
McCarthy coming back next year, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:42:23):
Yeah, I think it closed the door for him. I
think it was for this year in case something happens
to Donalds, who's been banged up. Obviously, they don't have
a great situation back up, it's a team that's gonna
play in the playoffs. I think that's what he was thinking.
And I also think Kevin O'Connell absolutely factors into that. Okay,
I think quarterbacks should want to play for him.
Speaker 3 (01:42:43):
Okay, as and I don't even know if the Raiders
were interested in him, But if the Raiders were, he
could go there and play immediately.
Speaker 6 (01:42:49):
But that's kind of like a well zone, right, No,
I don't think he would play. I think Aiden O'Connell
would play.
Speaker 3 (01:42:54):
Okay, wow, all right, I'm gonna go with the vikings
on that, Paul, if you want to stitch that one
down for me, please.
Speaker 6 (01:43:01):
And just looking at it, you know, because I think
it's interesting, like the whole Daniel Jones thing really interesting,
really interesting. Like if you're the Raiders, why do you
what would make you want to sign like a veteran
who's kind of failed, Like they need to find out
about the two young guys they have on the roster
and O'Connell and Ritter. Their season's over obviously, But I
(01:43:23):
tell you, O'Connell plit really well, Friday. I don't know
if you guys watched any of it.
Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
I saw a little bit of it. I saw another
team throw up over themselves down the stretch because of
the rest.
Speaker 6 (01:43:33):
It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable how many people don't know the rules.
It really astounds me. But the clock management in that
game was not bad. The problem in that game is
the moron center who decided to yell at everybody snap
the ball before everybody else was ready, right, Like that
(01:43:54):
can't happen, Like if you don't turn.
Speaker 3 (01:43:56):
The ball over.
Speaker 6 (01:43:57):
You're going to kick a field goal to try to
win the game.
Speaker 3 (01:44:00):
It just shows me, Paul, just a complete like did
any of these teams practice those game situations or anything
like that? But this doesn't look like it was.
Speaker 6 (01:44:07):
The Chicago thing, And it was. It was so bad
the Chicago thing. I immediately looked at my brother and
I said I would not let him on the plane,
and I would not allow him to come back. I
would say, you found your own way home. They decided
to wait about I don't know, twelve fourteen hours to
do it and.
Speaker 3 (01:44:24):
Let the guy do a press confidence While they're sitting
there finishing the statement to tell him that he's gas.
Our pregame show, Our pregame show guest Courtney Cronin said,
do you I have that name?
Speaker 11 (01:44:37):
Right?
Speaker 3 (01:44:37):
Marine Corps from Chicago had a terrific piece on ESPN
dot com castigating the beers for doing that, Like, like,
what are we doing? Just put the guy. Everybody knows
he's going to be fired. Just do it, don't let
him talk. He's I'm very confident that I'm gonna be
able to coach against whoever the next team he's playing.
Really yeah, that was said, I have no sympathy before, okay,
(01:44:58):
that you deserve to have the humiliate, the mocking, ridicule
and humiliation.
Speaker 6 (01:45:02):
That comes with it. You deserve every bit of it.
And that is coaching negligence. It was in a nutshell
and we saw it on full display. And the guy
for the guy to say, I think we got I
liked what we liked what we did there, like sorry,
double down. You need to go and do a press
conference and tell everybody what a moron you are and
then you need to get fired, no issues whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (01:45:22):
Uh. The other one o'clock fund selling insurance is the
Seattle Sea Puppies six and five West Coast to East
Paul travel to New York to take on the New
Jersey Jets. The Jets are three and eight. All kinds
of dysfunction there, yet the Jets are one point favorite. Michael, Yeah,
that crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:45:42):
I'm gonna go with Mike McDonald's defense on the road.
I know time changed, but I like the Seahawks. I'm
gonna take them.
Speaker 6 (01:45:50):
Yeah, I'm going to fall for it. I agree with you,
Matt that I think that's the line here is a
little odd. They generally know what's going on. I want
to take the Jets.
Speaker 3 (01:46:00):
You know what, That's a very good way of putting it.
I am going to fall for the banana and the Tailpip, absolutely,
and I don't. There's no reason to pick the Jets none,
but I'm going to. At four o'clock today, the Los
Angeles Rams at five and six travel to New Orleans
to take on the four and seven New Orleans Saints.
We're the ROMs are three point favorites on the road.
Speaker 6 (01:46:24):
Paul, Yes, I will take the Los Angeles Rams in
this game. Good bounce back spot for them.
Speaker 3 (01:46:30):
I'm with Polly the Law. We'll go three for three
with a road favorite. This game's getting a lot of attention,
naturally and understandably why the nine and two Philadelphia Eagles
are traveling just a little bit south to take on
the eight and four schizophrenic Baltimore Ravens. Where the Ravens,
good good words, are three point favorites.
Speaker 2 (01:46:53):
Michael, I just saw a statue that Lamar is like
one loss effort to the NFC, but like he can't
be Pittsburgh's bizarre.
Speaker 3 (01:46:59):
I like that. Just Baltimore so hard to get a
read on.
Speaker 2 (01:47:02):
I gotta go with the Eagles, though in this one,
I'm gonna go a little bit against the grain, but
I just I think sae Quon and that offense is
playing pretty well.
Speaker 6 (01:47:09):
Yeah, I believe in that Lamar stat. I think it's
like twenty three to one against the NFC, and I
think that there's some probably some logic to it. It's
a little bit of a different kind of offense that
if you don't see a lot, can be hard to
deal with. I'm gonna take Baltimore, but the one thing
in the back of my mind is might Philadelphia be
a little bit more equipped to handle it because they're
(01:47:30):
kind of used to seeing a different kind of offense
themselves with Jalen Hurds and Sakuon Barkley. But I'm gonna
take Baltimore. I think this should be as it's a
rarity for me. This is a matchup of two offenses
that want to run the ball. They're gonna run for
two hundred yards each, but they both hide powered offenses.
Even though they run the ball, they're kind of against
the norm of what I always think. They run the
(01:47:52):
ball constantly, but they both put a lot of points.
Speaker 3 (01:47:54):
On the board at some point in time. The Ravens
are gonna show some consistency. I don't know if this
is the week, but I'm gonna pick them against the
Eagles as the favorite Sunday Night Football. Or does the
S in S and F stand for Sunday or for snow?
Because the San Francisco forty nine ers, whose season is
on the line, go to Buffalo where the Lake Effect
(01:48:16):
snow has been going crazy to take on the nine
to two Bills, where the Bills are a six point favorite.
Speaker 6 (01:48:23):
In that game.
Speaker 3 (01:48:24):
Yeah, I don't know if there's enough talk has been
made about what a disappointment the forty nine ers have been.
Speaker 2 (01:48:28):
Huh, I know, I know where that's going to be
an interesting one to take apart in the off season
with you know, Kyle Shanahan being the darling of everybody
and how did it happen?
Speaker 3 (01:48:36):
You know, how do you get to that point?
Speaker 2 (01:48:38):
They've been done a really good job kind of keeping it,
maintaining it, but maybe just a down year for them,
But I'm gonna go. Uh. You know, Josh Allen also
got engaged, you guys to Hailey Steinfeld.
Speaker 3 (01:48:47):
Not happier with a big one.
Speaker 6 (01:48:48):
You know, I like Josh Allen. I'm not happy.
Speaker 3 (01:48:50):
I now watch out marrying an actress. I think that's
the Fred kursh windows closing.
Speaker 6 (01:48:55):
He's marrying an actress. How do you think that's gonna
en fail? Okay, so I give it a year and
a half in the immediate aftermath of the divorce is
a wasted year for Josh Allen because he's not focused
and he's he's depressed somewhere.
Speaker 3 (01:49:10):
Fred's not happy. The window closing.
Speaker 6 (01:49:12):
Now, I'm with him, windows Josh Allen, Mary, where do
you separate.
Speaker 3 (01:49:17):
The actress from the Oh, she's also a singer though
she a supermodel? You recall there was a quarterback that
used to play here that married a supermodel? Right, and
what happened? How did his career go on?
Speaker 6 (01:49:29):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (01:49:29):
He Yoko saying and the Yoko the whole dynastay if
you were paying attention, I was paying attention. They won
three more times after she showed up, so despite her Well, okay.
Speaker 6 (01:49:38):
But one, how did it go when they need it?
After method the divorce? This is like they didn't get
divorced when they were winning.
Speaker 3 (01:49:44):
He can't throw the ball in catching himself.
Speaker 2 (01:49:47):
Well, I'm gonna still say they're still in the honeymoon
phase of the engage.
Speaker 6 (01:49:50):
Yeah, they can win until it falls apart to.
Speaker 3 (01:49:52):
Take Josh Allen and the buff at home.
Speaker 17 (01:49:55):
Minestly, do tell me about this weather situation they're talking
about it that I saw somebody yesterday say, uh, there's
a snow emergency going on to at least seven o'clock
tonight they're talking about.
Speaker 3 (01:50:07):
And at least one person dropped that they thought they
were preliminary discussions to maybe move the game, because I
think the Bills are really in scramble mode to try
to clear the field and clear the seats, you know,
and get people actually to the stadium.
Speaker 6 (01:50:22):
Yeah, I'm gonna take Buffalo. Like Mike, I, I don't
think brock Proty is ready. I mean, he's playing by
all accounts, he's gonna play in the game. I don't
think he's healthy enough to play in the game, But
I'll take the Bills. The snow worries me, though, definitely
worries me.
Speaker 3 (01:50:38):
Well, it it equalizes things a little bit, right.
Speaker 6 (01:50:40):
Well, I just feel like if you can't like, snow,
just makes the game sloppy. I think, and like these
two teams. This is not like Cleveland Pittsburgh last week.
Where one team's terrible and the other team's good. This
is two good teams. But just like it could make yeah,
(01:51:00):
it can make something weird, right, you know, like and
if you if you're the one that has the fluke
turnover and cast you the game or whatever. But I'll
take the bills.
Speaker 3 (01:51:09):
I will take the bills as well. And I wonder
if the snow is continuing during the game, do you
think anybody will go on social media and talk about
how much they love to watch football in the snow?
Speaker 6 (01:51:18):
I mean, I don't want every game like that, Matt,
but like, well it is just awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:51:23):
It's incredible, isn't it. Yeah, these people have anybody to
talk to you.
Speaker 6 (01:51:28):
You know, you guys are talking about sanfer Cisco. Yeah,
we still got ten minutes. We would talk about San
Francisco and how it's just you know, one of those
years or whatever. Can you imagine if the Patriots was
still at the height of their powers, what Patriots fans
would be saying about San Francisco?
Speaker 3 (01:51:40):
Right, Yeah, this is what happens when you put all
the money into one or two guys and you get
them hurt. You gotta have a middle class.
Speaker 6 (01:51:48):
This is what happens, and you miss, you miss a
couple of guys and you go five. And that would
never happen with Belichick, that would never happen. Yes, yes,
voices in the head.
Speaker 3 (01:51:57):
Who's gotta go? Excuse me? Who's the forty nine ers
backup quarterback?
Speaker 6 (01:52:00):
Why am i Brandon Allen?
Speaker 14 (01:52:02):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:52:02):
That's right? He did not play very well last week?
Speaker 6 (01:52:04):
Right, he played okay for a while, and then he
had the predictable turnovers in the second half.
Speaker 3 (01:52:09):
All right, last, but certainly not least, and the reason
for our pregame show, the pregame social fueled by Duncan,
the five and seven in the playoff hunt, Indianapolis Colts
Dome team travel to Gillette Stadium to take on the
three nine New England Patriots, where the clots are two
and a half point picks. Mike, disrespectful.
Speaker 2 (01:52:28):
It just continues at home home too. Uh Now, it
sounds about right to me. But I'm gonna take the
Patriots in this one. You know, maybe spoiler alert last
time I take the Patriots for a pick.
Speaker 6 (01:52:38):
This year, you don't even know what the spreads.
Speaker 2 (01:52:40):
All right, We'll wait and see, We'll wait and see.
But yeah, I'm gonna take New England. I think it's
gonna be a tight game. It's gonna come down to
the fourth quarter. A couple of plays, and I think
today the Patriots are gonna make them. But I don't
feel super confident. I think this is a game that
can go either way. And if they allow Jonathan Taylor
to get going, I think that's gonna be the biggest
problem of.
Speaker 3 (01:52:58):
All would be discouraging Paul.
Speaker 6 (01:53:00):
I am with Mike. I have the Patriots today. Anthony
Richardson is the X factor for the Patriots. I think
he makes a couple of mistakes, maybe even a fumble
on one of those designed runs. I could see like
a fourth down, him trying to, you know, make a
play on a fourth down, running around and ball comes out.
Kyle Dugart, Anthony, why do you say it like that
(01:53:27):
because of the sopranos. You said it with a specific accent.
Speaker 3 (01:53:30):
Mine was a Prince spaghetti.
Speaker 6 (01:53:31):
Yes, yours was different.
Speaker 7 (01:53:32):
Man.
Speaker 6 (01:53:33):
I did not take any offense to you.
Speaker 3 (01:53:34):
There's an Italian Colts fan in the in the audience
todaymer that was offensive. Yeah, I would Tommy DeVito all right,
just to round it out of clean sweep. I like
the Patriots in this game. I have faith that they
want to get the stink out of them. That's still stinks. Please,
(01:53:57):
uh has not lingered from Miami, and they're gonna put
forth a total effort and they're gonna win the game
against the Colts today. All right, final thoughts as we
get ready for the Patriots to do battle against the Colts.
Remember how this rival You know, these guys who played
each other for the last four years.
Speaker 2 (01:54:13):
Yeah, yeah, they've been the pretty the ugly last couple years.
I mean, I remember that that the Germany game was
one not for kids. The Germany game, I mean, honestly,
like I feel like too. I'm not I'm not immediately
remembering the twenty twenty two game, but I twenty twenty
one and twenty twenty three, it felt like the Colts
delivered a stiff dose of reality to the Patriots. You know,
the Patriots won that Buffalo win game, they had their
(01:54:34):
bye week, they had won something like eight seven eight
games in a row at that point, went into Indy,
got run all over and was.
Speaker 3 (01:54:40):
Like, oh boy, this isn't looking good.
Speaker 6 (01:54:43):
Game the twenty twenty two game, if I'm not mistaken,
which is won Sam Ellinger game. Okay, Yeah, so that
was they had their rookie like third string quarterback playing,
which in the latter part of the Belichick era was
the secret sauce. Have the third quarterback play and you
will shut them down. Yeah, and they did. I think
the Colts couldn't move the ball to.
Speaker 3 (01:55:03):
Yeah, that's your secret sauce game.
Speaker 2 (01:55:04):
But you know last year that that Germany game that
felt like, man, the writings on the wall, the game
for Bill am mack, that felt like it was kind
of hit. So I don't anticipate this game we'll have
that kind of you know, impact on the season, but
you know, maybe it could in a positive sense, and
that the Patriots start to put some things together defensively,
they play more like they did against the Bears, and
you know, maybe you come out of here with a
little bit of jolt of positivity before the bye week
(01:55:26):
and the final four games of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:55:28):
I think that's what this team desperately needs. That's one
thing we haven't talked about in this particular show. As
we're getting as we're getting close to kickoff here about
twenty minutes away, what does the factor of the bye
week mean? You know, is your you know, at three
and nine, you know, are guys looking to say, oh, jeez,
we haven't had a break since, you know, the Thursday
(01:55:48):
night game against a Jets. Get me here to Tuesday afternoon.
I've got to get out of here. I got i
gotta clean my head out of this. Is there a
danger of that at all?
Speaker 2 (01:55:56):
I mean, I'll just speak for myself, because I think
during the season, I was really excited about all these
one pm games. I mean, it's just a great schedule
for us. We it's essentially a real work day. You're
not up till the middle of the night. But what
I have noticed with all these back to back one
pm games is like it just feels like a relentless
kind of cycle. And you know, there's not even like
a night game to kind of break it up where
I'm tired, but I had a little you know, those
kind of things. So I think the players might feel
(01:56:17):
the same and just want to break up the schedule
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:56:20):
Get away reset. We'll see what they're dealing with. Though.
Speaker 2 (01:56:23):
Are they coming off a win where they're like, all right,
we got a little juice, Let's go into these last
four games and you know, show we can build off
of that, or is you know, a tough lost today
and then it's like, oh boy, we got four really
good teams with two world trips up next.
Speaker 3 (01:56:34):
And maybe I didn't articulate that right, Mike, But my
concern is, are they looking past today to get to Tuesday,
like we're gonna get some time off, you know, thank goodness?
Speaker 6 (01:56:43):
If they are, it's going to be a long and
I don't think there's any doubt that some will be.
I thought it was interesting in Mike's notes that he
had a quote from an anonymous player, just he didn't
identify the player, just about kind of not even wanting
to buy at this point, just finish it out. Let's
just finish it out, right. I think that might be
the mentality of some Now I don't say that that
(01:57:03):
that's everybody. It might only be one guy that that
that said that. But I think when you get to
this stage of the season and you know you're not
going to the playoffs, especially the veterans, and it's kind
of like, let's pack it up and get it over with.
Speaker 3 (01:57:18):
Just a little dreaded business decisions.
Speaker 2 (01:57:20):
Just a little quick, quick tidbit here from Nick O'Malley
that Jibil Peppers does no longer have.
Speaker 3 (01:57:24):
A C on his jersey. So yeah, okay, we didn't
ask this question. I'm sure some of your your heroes
have tweeted. What does the offensive line warm up situation
look like? Please, Mike?
Speaker 2 (01:57:39):
Yeah, Layden Robinson in at left guard, so the same trade.
Jacobs remains at right guard or a right tackle. Excuse me,
so same offensive line, but Laden Robinson in at left guard.
Michael Jordan is active for today, so from the pack
to squad now, so he'll be the backup if if
Laydon Robinson, you know, struggles, but would love to see
him spark something today in the run game.
Speaker 3 (01:57:58):
That's what they say.
Speaker 2 (01:57:58):
He's a maller and a brawler, is when you said,
so let's see a little of that today.
Speaker 3 (01:58:02):
From so, there'll be a lot of eyes on him today,
I think, don't you. Yeah, As people are looking to
say who can they count on for twenty twenty five?
Is there a role for him on next year's team?
Speaker 2 (01:58:13):
Check a box for us addition to star right now,
check a box before the offseason where you're not looking
at left guard as a prime spot to fill maybe
and at even no matter how well he plays, you
might still be saying, well, we're gonna need some depth,
We're gonna need somebody in the pipeline as a swing
guy behind them. But it would be a great sign
if he's able to have, you know, good game, good
last four or five games.
Speaker 3 (01:58:31):
Any other lineup mentions, warm up mentions that you see
by the Twitter police. No, no, that's that's it.
Speaker 2 (01:58:39):
But it does look like Peppers is out there with
Dougger as the starting safeties. And this according to Evan Lazarre,
our own top skill group Booty Born Douglas Henry Stevenson.
Speaker 3 (01:58:50):
Right, that's eleven personnel. That's what they've been, that's what
they've done. Part they're not not twelve personnel, not twelve personnel,
not twelve.
Speaker 2 (01:58:58):
But hellyeah, when Austin Hooper comes in, the receiver goes out,
we'll go to twelve.
Speaker 5 (01:59:02):
That's twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:59:03):
Okay, Well that'll do it for the Patriots pre game
social get out of fueled by Duncan. Okay. Next up,
the Patriots will take on and host the Indianapolis Cults.
Should be excited today, looking forward to a good game,
looking forward to dissecting and analyzing something much better than
last week's performance against the Miami Dolphins. We will see

you after the game for the postgame show. We will
