Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is the Patriots Pregame Show fueled by Duncan. Just
throwing a touchdown New England. The Patriots Pregame Show is
your source for all the news and information before every game.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
They took me to the house.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Fucker every Patriots, Hey.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Bully, Patriots Nation. Welcome to the Patriots Pregame Show fueled
by Duncan.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
What's up, everybody? Third and final preseason game of the
twenty twenty five season. We've got Evan, We've got Deuce.
I'm Claudia. Paul will be with us in just a second.
And this is an exciting day. Okay, some people might
want to downplay it. Nobody's gonna be playing. It's a
third and final preseason I don't want to hear it, Okay,
because both the Giants and the Pats are undefeated.

Speaker 5 (00:50):
You too, That's right, all right.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
We're gonna see Jackson Dart out there for maybe a
full first half. This is exciting.

Speaker 6 (00:56):
Yeah, I am excited, and not just because this will
mean that we're moving on to the regular season.

Speaker 5 (01:02):
But I think there's still.

Speaker 6 (01:02):
Questions now are there are still questions though? And I
think this is a team that Mike Rabel came in
We talked a lot about it this week. They were
able to build a lot of the top line, but
there's not a lot of depth right now, and I
think they have to identify who their depth guys are,
and especially I mean the three positions. I'm gonna look
at offensive line, edge, and defensive back. I think there

(01:23):
are you know, not just roster spots to be one,
but you know, some roles and especially if injuries were
to strike at some point. I look along that offensive line,
especially a guy like Marcus Bryan at right tackle who
could be playing significant staffs this year.

Speaker 5 (01:35):
So definitely some questions still to be answer tonight for me.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Yeah, offensive line, there's really two open competitions still ongoing
at center and left guard. You don't know where those
are going to settle. I don't know how much Brad Berry,
Jared Wilson, and Brent Brown are going to play tonight,
but we'll see. I still think that those things are unsettled.
And like du said, there's depth really across the roster.

(01:59):
But one of the guys I wanted to just highlight
right off the top is Kyle Duggar. I think he's
going to play a lot tonight, which is telling in
a lot of ways, but also just what is it
that they want him to work on? What is it
that they want him to prove to make this team?
Because Duce, both Deuce and I have done our little
fifty three man roster projection fun and play with the
roster and that's respect. And it's hard to imagine that

(02:22):
Kyle Dugger is not one of the fifty three best
players currently on the Patriots rosters. So I know that
it's more than that there's complications with his contract and
things like that, but it would be pretty surprising to
see Kyle Dugger not make this team, but that might
be the reality.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
And Tuesday four pm is when they have to block
in those fifty three men rosters. And that's why I
joke about it, but it is true. A game like
this is important because maybe you don't make the Patriots
fifty three, but every other team's going to be looking
around and they need depth at certain positions that maybe
the Patriots have an abundance of. So that's important for
these guys too. That's a layer of motivation that might.

Speaker 7 (02:58):
Be part of it.

Speaker 6 (02:59):
What's interesting about is the games that are not happening around,
you know, the ones that are happening around the league
and potential places where the Patriots could look to improve
or maybe add some depth.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
You never know where somebody Mike shape loose.

Speaker 6 (03:10):
I mean you talk about Kyle Dugger, Anthony Jennings, another
player who might play White a big key on. White's
a guy that I think a lot of people might
see tonight playing a significant amount of snaps. Started the
year off really part of the defense, and lately it
seems like, I think, have you room with Mike Smith,
the outside linebackers coach, saying he's he's got to find
a home right now, and yeah, really interesting state.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Which is going back to the draft is sort of
the concerns that we might have had about him was, Yeah,
he's sort of this tweeer of defensive end, defensive tackle,
outside linebacker, which in one respect, it can be here
a jack of all trade, which is a good thing,
but if you don't have a permanent home, it's also
can be unsettling too. For Keon White, We've seen Chase

(03:51):
On take a lot more starter reps this past week
or so at that opposite spot of Harold Landry and
Keon White's been running a little bit more way the
two's it's it's a good kind of sneaky one here
at the end.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
It's like just the theme for me tonight is a
little bit of I don't want to call it the
last stand, but it's kind of the last stand of
a lot of Belichick draft picks and guys along the
offensive line, Kyle Dugger, Anthony Jenny's, key On White, some
guys that have been holdovers for the last two years.
Are they going to have a role on this team
going forward? Do they fit what they're trying to do
here tonight we'll find out.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Bittersweet the chapter coming to an en. Hey, Paul, come
on return. We are you amped about third and final
preseason game?

Speaker 7 (04:29):
They set me up. I'm excited, Yes, preseason game?

Speaker 8 (04:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (04:38):
Who you done?

Speaker 4 (04:39):
We haven't from from broad range?

Speaker 7 (04:44):
Yeah? Seasons ten days away.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
Paul is thrill. Let's get to the case of the game.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
To hear what you're gonna say.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Here are this week's keys to the game?

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Are we going? I didn't realize we had an intro?
Did we go over the music?

Speaker 5 (05:12):
All right?

Speaker 4 (05:12):
Thanks guys, it's my second shift.

Speaker 5 (05:14):
I mean, as you heard, the team is waiting to
hear this so they are.

Speaker 8 (05:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Okay, guys, listen, if you're in.

Speaker 7 (05:19):
The locker room.

Speaker 9 (05:22):
Dang wanted me about my lack of enthusiasms you.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
I said, aren't you excited? That's all I said.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
It comes back week off and it's.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
Just yeah, man, geez uh. My key to the game
is to put a bow on it, and we sort
of all just talked about that at the beginning here
at the opening. Just finish clean. We already have some
injuries which we'll talk about, of course, Jalen Polk out
for the season, which we'll get to Lan Larison already
out for the season. So end this game with no injuries,
that would be ideal. Finish drives right. I want to

(05:54):
see the receiver room. They're still battling all the polk
is out there. We talked about the interior with the line,
make sure that looks good, and they're facing I don't
know how many starters are going to be out there
from the defensive front for the Giants, but that's a
tough defense. So I'd love to see them hold up
against that and limit the penalties like they've been doing
and just finish cleanly, finish, polish right. We've had a

(06:16):
great Tino start so far. It's preseason, that's right to
and I start those still no losses, so just finish clean,
finish strong.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
Dis I like it.

Speaker 6 (06:24):
I mean that's you know, let's not get any injuries,
don't get guys hurt. But there is stuff, you know,
still interesting things to happen tonight. I look at you know,
my key is what did I do?

Speaker 10 (06:35):
No?

Speaker 5 (06:35):
Make the case? And that's just I think one of
this game. It's always fun to.

Speaker 6 (06:39):
See a guy just take advantage of this moment, and
you know, does he ultimately end up being a contributing
member of the Patriots on games? Maybe not, But it's
fun to see guys go out and I know Paul
talk a little bit about it. You know, maybe their
last chance in an NFL game and just go out
and have some fun and make some plays.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
And you never know who that might be. So maybe
it's a guy.

Speaker 6 (06:57):
I mean, we're talking a little bit about a random
like Jordan. You know, somebody one of these guys who
maybe you've seen a little bit of. He made a
game saving play last week on that kickoff return.

Speaker 5 (07:07):
So maybe somebody like that. I don't know, That's what
I want to see just somebody step.

Speaker 6 (07:10):
Up, make the case and maybe make things interesting, make
some decisions harder on this coaching staff when it comes
down on Tuesday.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Does anybody come to mind for you guys thinking in
the past years with preseason when we say maybe this
game doesn't really matter, but somebody goes out there and
just balls out.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
You were actually talking about that before the show.

Speaker 7 (07:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
The one that comes to mind, which is pretty recent,
is little Jordan Humphrey, who had like a huge game.
I don't know if he made the initial roster, but
he stuck around for a little bit and kind of
bounce back and forth from the roster in the in
the practice squad, so I remember him. He caught a
couple of passes, he down a punch like on the
one yard line on a on a really good play
for Gunner and sort of made his case, if you will.

(07:48):
So did you.

Speaker 6 (07:49):
Say Gunner because I was thinking Gunner Olszewski. Yeah, that
final preseason game, playing some cornerback, making some plays like
those are the kind of things that could be fun,
all right.

Speaker 9 (07:59):
So you know it, Mike, just right, and this is
one of those games. And I say this every year
and I really mean it. It is kind of a
finality to a lot of these guys, and the vast
majority of the guys that play tonight will never play again.

Speaker 7 (08:12):
And I don't say that lightly.

Speaker 9 (08:14):
And these guys have been football players, that's what they've
They've been for say, ten twelve years.

Speaker 7 (08:19):
They've been a football player every day.

Speaker 9 (08:20):
And the finality of that is not something I just flippantly,
you know, make my typical Paul snarky comments about.

Speaker 7 (08:28):
I totally respect it.

Speaker 9 (08:30):
And these guys will be out there flying around tonight
trying to put some tape together and whatnot, and it
won't be easy. But there is one area and that's
why my key to the game is sort of putting
your best foot forward. And it's a little bit of
a play on words with the kicking situation, because if
there's one thing tonight that will kind of matter.

Speaker 7 (08:49):
I still think it's a competition. It's ongoing.

Speaker 9 (08:51):
I think both guys Parker Romo and Andy Borogalis have
been pretty good throughout camp. I think Boragallis may have
I mean, Bromo may have taken a step ahead last week.
You know, you contrast the two preseason games. I always
say to you guys, the results and the actions in
the preseason games is so far less important than what

(09:12):
happens at practice, and I believe that. But when one
guy goes out in the preseason game it makes a
fifty seven yard er, and the other guy really didn't
kick well at all on his fifty seven yard attempt,
I think that does matter.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
You know.

Speaker 9 (09:23):
It's like the Phil Perry line from the opener. It
doesn't count, but it does matter, So I do continue.
I'm going to watch the kicking game tonight and hopefully
the Patriots will score some points and give both guys
more opportunities. I think Rabel has been alternating them a lot.
Let the competition continue and let's see who wins the
kicking job tonight.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
And you mentioned practice being a big part of that.
Both went five of five in practice, but the actual
game has been different.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Of course.

Speaker 7 (09:50):
Yeah, they've all been really really good all summer.

Speaker 9 (09:52):
Yeah, to be honest, they're not making the decision easy
on coaching.

Speaker 5 (09:56):
So it was like one day last week where there
are multiple kicks missed by both guys.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Another panic, the panic of my people.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
It was just like a dramatized it.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
They were in a panic about it. But the operation.
I thought on the on Borgolis's miss last week in
Minnesota might have been more of like the operation seemed
like they were laid on the field, maybe some indecisiveness
of it. Was it a Romo kick or was it
a Borgalis kick? And then the snap looked a little
bit high as well, So maybe not totally on the

(10:28):
rookie kicker that he missed that one. But Paul I
believe is right that Romo probably has been the better
of the two. But I don't know if it's a
wide enough gap to cut a six round pick for
Parker Romo.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
So we'll see mean you had effort and finish in
parentheses strong. What does that mean?

Speaker 3 (10:48):
So the number one non negotiable for Mike Rabel and
this coaching staff is effort and finish. They have a
board that's up in the team auditorium now that has
their non negotiables listed and number one at the top
above all the other ones is effort and finish. And
I think if you're gonna make this team as some
of the players that do slaid out, you're gonna make
this team as the fifty third guy on the roster,

(11:10):
You're gonna play with absolute one hundred and ten percent,
full tilt effort and finish. So, whether that be tackling,
covering kicks, blocking for returners, blocking in the run game,
finishing blocks in all senses of that, playing blocks hard
and physicality and all that good stuff. I don't think
you're gonna make this roster as a back end of

(11:30):
the roster player without doing those types of things. I
don't think it's going to be something flashy. It's not
gonna be a one handed catch that's gonna make the team.
It's going to be that kind of stuff. So finished
strong obviously, last preseason game here for a lot of
these guys to audition, and I think that that's the
number one thing that they look for.

Speaker 5 (11:48):
Wasn't that. I think carrot Cake was one of the
other non negotiables that was on there.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
He does like carrot cake, which is kind of I
can't do a little bit of a hot take for birthday, right,
I think that.

Speaker 7 (11:57):
It's a hot take?

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Yeah I can't.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
I don't want razins. Yeah, no raisins in my care cake.
I'll do carecike other way.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
I do carocke. Ever, again, in my life, I threw
up from it because my mom would put in my
lunch box every day, every day fourth grade. I was
I felt so bad telling I didn't like it. Nurse
sent me home one day throwing up everywhere. She's like,
why didn't you just tell me like I felt? So
I can't even smell carrot cake now?

Speaker 5 (12:19):
Wow, all right, Well, we want let you to interview
my table.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
I guess no birthdays are welcome.

Speaker 7 (12:26):
Keep the great anecdote.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
But I do want to ask you, though, does one
name really come to mind? Because we know everybody has
to put in the effort. We all talked about a
strong finish and a lot of the positions are solidified.
We talked about the interior maybe not being one of them,
some wide receiver positions. But does one name overall come
to mind for you that needs to finish strong?

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Yeah, we've talked about him a couple of times tonight,
but Jordan Polk I really feel like he's the one
guy that has really exemplified that. He covered a kick
last week eighty one eighty two yard return and he
made the touchdown saving play and might be able to
pointed it out unprompted and said, hey, if he doesn't
make that that touchdown, tat, you know, take that tackle
down to uh to avoid the touchdown, then we probably

(13:09):
don't win this game because they score on the kickoff return,
and that's the difference in the game. So I've noticed him,
you know, filling the run. He had a sack, I
had an interception, I had to kickoff return tackle. So
because these little things that if you're going to make
the roster as a sixth defensive back or something like that,
it might might be Jordan Polk.

Speaker 9 (13:28):
So I'll give you another one more of a positional group.
Is like that whole tight end situation. You know, I
think Westover is probably the guy based on all the
full back work that we've seen, But is there room
for somebody else? We've talked about this roster is not
very deep. So are they going to keep five receivers?
Seven receivers, you know, some something in between. Maybe there's

(13:51):
an extra spot for a Jaheem Bell or you know,
I know Scott or one of one of these other guys.

Speaker 5 (13:59):
I have a Botheringham.

Speaker 9 (14:00):
I never bring up Cole Fatheringham Paul, So you know,
I'm glad that you guys did, because that was the
name that.

Speaker 7 (14:06):
Was escaping me.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
I knew fothering what we do.

Speaker 9 (14:10):
I was this close to saying in forty nine, your father, that's.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Also a full back number.

Speaker 7 (14:16):
I mean so, but I do think there's a chance.

Speaker 9 (14:19):
I mean, I'm not telling you the going to but
I think there's a chance that you might say, well,
they look at Westover, is a full back that's extension
in the back.

Speaker 7 (14:26):
Of like is Jamichael Hasty on this team?

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Now?

Speaker 9 (14:29):
You know, I think there's a lot of different things
that can happen that we don't really know how they're
going to unfold yet.

Speaker 6 (14:34):
Yeah, I wonder with a guy like west Over if
he's really the guy or if he's just the guy
who can play fullback on the roster, right, And maybe
that's a suit right, Well, maybe that's some a position
that they address after cutdowns. Maybe there's a full back
somewhere who shakes loose, who's a real full back. But
the guy I want to I want to highlight is
Jamon Baker, who missed two practices this week and then

(14:55):
reports were yesterday coming out of Mike Reese saying I
know he's he's going to travel, Daniel Russo's going to fight.

Speaker 7 (15:00):
Because they have good show.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
I mean, they got Forest.

Speaker 6 (15:03):
They got three other receivers that are you know, really
healthy and probably gonna address tonight. John Giles, Paul's guy,
had a pretty good you know, a couple of weeks here,
Phil Lutz, who they just signed, Tuffs Delaware I mean
powerhouses of course, and Jeremiah Webb. So to me, that
sounded like, jabon, you're on the bubble, buddy, if there's
any way you can play, you might want to make

(15:24):
that trip tomorrow. And that to me is He's had
a disappointing preseason. To me, I mean, he's had some shot,
some moments in the joint practices, but I think the
overall numbers were like seven eight targets, one catch in
the preseason games. Go back to Paul's point, I know
that doesn't matter as much, but I.

Speaker 5 (15:40):
Just think he's been so speak for himselves.

Speaker 6 (15:42):
He's been so up and down, and at some point
he has to either develop a new player that you
think you can trust in, that you can put out
there and really feel like if we put the effort
and energy into this player to develop him, that it's
going to pay off down the road, and right now
we just haven't seen it. So I look for him
tonight to He's probably going to play most of the game.
He's going to get some targets. He's got to make
some plays.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
And remind people of the talent that he has if
he wants to find a spot, whether it's on the
roster or on the practice squad.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
We'll talk about the quarterbacks for a second, because I
was telling you guys this half baked take, but I'm
gonna bring it to the show.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
It's been baked.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
It was still happening, all right.

Speaker 9 (16:16):
Is it baked better than Claudia's carric cake?

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Yes. So Ben Woolridge is in the games. Has kind
of impressed me a little bit. I thought he was
not so much against Minnesota, definitely more against Washington than Minnesota.
But even against Minnesota, he made a couple throws and
I was like, okay, all right, Ben Woolridge, I see
what you're doing. Really smooth release, looks sort of the

(16:43):
part in the pocket and looks poised and kind of
kind of sell down. And I give him a ton
of credit because he doesn't have any reps in practice,
and then he's coming into these games and he's playing
all right in the games. I think if all things
were equal, that this could have been a legitimate competition
for backup quarterback. But Josh Dobbs has a role. He
has a presence on this team as a veteran backup

(17:04):
to Drake May. But just if you're going by the tape,
like Woolridge has outplayed him in the preseason. So I'm
interested to see Ben Woolridge tonight. Maybe if he has
another really good game, they do start to think about
keeping three quarterbacks because he has shown me a little bit.

Speaker 9 (17:18):
It's another one of those, you know, the roster machinations that.

Speaker 7 (17:22):
You have to try to play.

Speaker 9 (17:23):
And again, I don't think that they have a situation
where you know, it's like, well do we keep Elijah
Ponder or a Truman Jones.

Speaker 7 (17:31):
You know, we can't let these guys go.

Speaker 9 (17:34):
I think it's just it depends on where you want
to try to factor in some depth.

Speaker 7 (17:39):
The receiver situation.

Speaker 9 (17:40):
I think Claudia talked about it before I came on
about him shot. I think you mentioned Jalen Polk. Well,
Kendrick Bourne hasn't been out there for a long time.
Baker is trying to battle through something. Chishm didn't practice
the last couple of days. What's going to be the
health status of that wide receiver court heading into week one?
Does that necessitate you keeping some extra guys just to
make sure you're ready, because you know, let's say they

(18:02):
wanted to say, well, Kendrick bourns a, he's a veteran,
we're going to keep him. We know he'll be ready
for week one. Well, then all of a sudden, you're
in the middle of the new second quarter and you
lose him, So you might need to have some extra
bodies there. I'm just throwing him out there. I think
the more likely scenario is a guy like Born opens
on IR and that's how you factor in some depth
in case get to October and maybe you're not liking
the way some of these younger guys look, especially with

(18:25):
Kyler Williams's concussion, well not concussion, head injury that we
don't really know about, you know, is he going to
be ready for the opener?

Speaker 11 (18:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (18:32):
With Jordan Polk now sound like he's gonna end up
on IR. I like that, you know that move to
just stash Born.

Speaker 5 (18:37):
Maybe have him as a backup, and we'll see in
a few weeks.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
Maybe I do want to touch on Phil Lutz quickly,
again because Tyler from Delaware said, evan question mark question
question mark, question mark, have you checked out lots yet?
Dude was a beast at Delaware wille As a good
game tonight. I want your take on him.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
A little jitterbug, you know, typical typical Patriot Paul Paul's favorite.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
Oh well, that'll be great.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Respect for Hefton Chisholm is crazy.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
All receivers in preseason.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
They've had Phil Let's here before. This is not Phil
Utz's first uh soire with the Patriots, So we'll see
if this one. I don't think this one's going to stick.
It's pretty late in the process. But Paul did bring
up a guy that that jumped on late that I
do think could stick, and that's Jamichael Hasty. Like I've
been pretty impressed with Jamichael Hasty. I just think he's
pretty smart. You know, heady veteran plays well in the

(19:31):
kicking game as well. So if you're gonna be a
fourth running back, you know he could be a fourth
running back. He can be a backup past catching back,
and he can cover kicks like that's not nothing that
is a role on most NFL teams.

Speaker 7 (19:41):
I'm going to break a rule of lawyers.

Speaker 9 (19:45):
You know, never asking a question I don't know the
answer to.

Speaker 7 (19:47):
But I'm not a lawyer. I not on trial, so
I'm going to do it.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
So you know the answer to this.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
I don't.

Speaker 9 (19:53):
I'm wondering if you guys know the answer, because I
think Hasty did speak after one of the practices. I
believe that I wasn't at But do we know why
he was signed when he was signed.

Speaker 5 (20:07):
And Laris and why was he available?

Speaker 3 (20:10):
It's a good question. I don't know the answer to.

Speaker 7 (20:12):
That so much.

Speaker 9 (20:13):
What I'm trying to get at is you sign him,
you get him up to speed. You kind of like
what you see. I think everything you haven't said about
the special teams is important to Mike Rabel and that
staff Springer has some familiarity with him from last year
on special teams.

Speaker 7 (20:29):
Do you cut him and put him on the practice
squad and get.

Speaker 9 (20:33):
Because he was available in August for sure, so your
chances of getting him to the practice squad are probably
pretty high.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
I like that move. I think that makes the most
sense to me.

Speaker 9 (20:43):
But I didn't know if, like you guys talked to him. No, no, no,
he was dealing with an ankle injury. They knew he
wasn't going to be ready. I didn't know if there
was information. I went for the phone call. Yeah, okay,
So my guess is that you'll be able to get
him on the practice squad if that was the case.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
Yeah, And that's how the practice squad for with all
these elevations and all these new rules and stuff that
have been recently put in place, that a lot of
these practice squad spots have been game day elevations because
they have a role for you on special teams. But
they want to protect a Javon Baker on the fifty
three man roster and they don't want to put him
on waivers. But Hasty doesn't have to go on waivers,

(21:16):
so he's protected. But just little things with Hasty, like
they got blitzed the other day against Minnesota, and like
he knows he's hot and he turns around and he's
you know, open for Josh Dobbs, Like the little just
veteran things that you can see with him that might
might allow him to make the roster. Like you see
that with him, And then every once in a while
you see Trevion Henderson, a rookie who doesn't necessarily adjust

(21:38):
the route as quickly as a guy like Hasty. So
just some small things with Hasty. But sorry, I don't
have more on Phil Lutz.

Speaker 5 (21:45):
But you'll get all you need tonight.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
That's all that he wanted there. But as we discussed
making this fifty three man, we've talked a lot about
players going to other teams, some trade discussions that have
come up, and I'm sure you guys talked about this
during the week, but this email Brandon and Maine says,
please stop taking the calls on trades for McLaurin or
Michael Parsons or Hendrickson. It's taboo, which should be taboo.

(22:11):
He's basically saying, I'm tired of fans who think we
can trade dugger Strange Jennings, a third round pick and
a bag of used jockstraps for a star.

Speaker 7 (22:19):
But those are two different things.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
They want the jockstrap.

Speaker 9 (22:22):
Yeah, Like you're tired of, you know, trying to get
these guys for nothing. Right, But like when Elliott Woolf
openly talks about being open to a trade and then
there's a report like a day or so later that
the Patriots inquired about Trey Hendrickson, I think people that
are writing in wondering about acquiring one of these guys.

Speaker 7 (22:43):
I think is perfectly normal, fairy.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
I think it's my trade proposal that I can't please.
For Catch twenty two this week, Kean White second round
pick and take your pick of Duggar or Marcus Jones
for Trey Hendrickson.

Speaker 7 (22:59):
Sure, yeah, yep, it's a lot, it's a lot.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
It's a lot, real impact player, obviously one injury kind.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Of that is my trade proposal because the Bengals, uh,
their defense is in a bad way, right, so they
need players all on all three levels of their defense.

Speaker 7 (23:18):
There you go, and so.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
I don't think Anthony Jennings and dugger gets it done.
I don't think that's good enough. But Keon White youngest
sending players still from the Patriots. I'm not giving up
a first round pick for Hendrickson. But yeah, second.

Speaker 6 (23:32):
That if I could do a short riff just on
the edge position generally, because I would guess tonight you're
not going to see Landry or Chase on it. And
really after that, I think there are huge questions about
who's the next man up.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
Set up. Plenty of times Perrold Landry goes down.

Speaker 6 (23:44):
I think he's like the key piece to that defensive
front right now. Like what we see out of Chase On,
He's come on bringing some pass rush juice. But talked
a little bit about Keon White not quite fine in
a home yet.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
Anthony Jennings not quite sure how he fits.

Speaker 6 (23:58):
Elijah Ponder like someone he showed last week coming on
a little bit, and we talked about Elijah Ponter too.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Es actually on special team.

Speaker 5 (24:05):
You know, Truman Jones last one.

Speaker 6 (24:06):
I'll mention those two guys, Truman Jones with five QB
pressures this preseason, but not a lot of obvious answers
there after your top two guys.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
So I think that's a huge position of question.

Speaker 6 (24:17):
It's a huge position where depth is needed and bringing
somebody in like Hendrickson, especially if you didn't have to
touch those top two guys, that really gives you an
elite three man rotation along the edge. So that's a
spot I would look at, and I've set up before
going into next year that you need to pad.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
In some youth.

Speaker 6 (24:32):
You got to get some promise on that edge position
and round it out a little bit. And I'd even
consider signing Chase On, keeping Chase On around depending on
how it goes.

Speaker 5 (24:40):
But I think he's had a good camp.

Speaker 6 (24:41):
And he's shown that he's maybe growing into that pedigree
that he had coming out.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
Yeah, I thought Swinson had a couple of good reps
in the game against Minnesota for the first time. I
kind of noticed the same thing that I was hoping
to notice him a little bit more earlier in training camp.
But maybe the light's coming on for him now and
we'll start to see him. He's a little stiff, but
he's got speed, power, he plays physically, you know, kind
of got that for him. But yeah, the edge spot

(25:05):
you've been on a deuce, it's it's something that you
feel pretty good about the camp that Chason's had about
Chase On and Landry, But behind that it's a little
bit of a question mark. But it's never too early
to look at the draft deuce.

Speaker 8 (25:17):
No.

Speaker 5 (25:17):
I I had a lot of good edges out there too.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
So you might get your guy in April. But this
is I Like I said, I was hoping to see
Swinson flash sooner in camp and maybe a little bit
more often than what I've seen. So maybe he's building
something off of that Minnesota preseason game where he had
a couple pressures and a run stuff, so maybe it's
something to build on.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
You mentioned Elijah Ponder. I know Mike Smith has talked
really highly of him, saying he's one of the best
undrafted free agent pickups. And that's the outside linebackers coach.
For those who don't know, that's that's speaking very highly about.
How much do you guys agree with that. I'm curious
on Elijah Ponder.

Speaker 6 (25:55):
Well, I could think Barth isn't here, but I mean,
I I don't, to be honest, I haven't seen a lot.
I thought he looked, you know, he popped a couple
times early on, but he's the rest of that group.
Sometimes you see moments from them and you see a
little flash. I'd say the same thing about Truman Jones,
who was here as a practice squad guy last year.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
I just think it's more impressive about Truman Jones.

Speaker 5 (26:13):
Yeah, he's tough, he's a tough guy.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Yeah, But I don't that's a great quest.

Speaker 6 (26:16):
I just think they're all kind of jumbled right now,
and with key On White not elevating. And we talked
about this in the off season. Everyone's like, well, dude,
don't forget about.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
Ke On White.

Speaker 6 (26:24):
I think even they thought key On White would be,
you know, part of that rotation and a real part
of the defensive end group, and but he hasn't really
seized it. He's been falling back. So I think they
need to figure something out there. And I mean, if
it is ponder great, but one of those guys has
to emerge because I could see.

Speaker 5 (26:39):
One of them getting thrust in at some point.

Speaker 7 (26:40):
Yeah, and I just don't know exactly.

Speaker 9 (26:42):
Still, it's an age old thing that Mike and I
have been talking about with Keon White for two years,
is I don't know exactly.

Speaker 7 (26:47):
Where he fits.

Speaker 9 (26:48):
And that was interesting to hear them, you know, the
coaches say just that finding one spot, finding a home
for him, and the way they talk about him. I
think it was was it Clint big Millin that we
were talking to Mike that was saying, what was that?

Speaker 5 (27:02):
Mike Smith?

Speaker 9 (27:03):
Mike Smith, Okay, you know, I'm trying to learn all
these new guys too, you know, with the new coaches.

Speaker 3 (27:09):
We got to pull up there.

Speaker 9 (27:10):
Yeah, we chance to talk to the defensive coaches on
Tuesday or Monday, one of the days this week, and
he mentioned that, you know, his his violence and physicality
is a parent.

Speaker 7 (27:23):
That's the way to me.

Speaker 9 (27:24):
You talk about an interior guys, you know it's explosiveness
and in power, it's you know, the speed to power
that Evan talked about with some of the edge guys.
So maybe they look at him as more of a
fit on the inside. And you know, we're just trying
to remember this one, Claudie, we're trying to fit a square.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
Thanks Paul.

Speaker 6 (27:53):
Yeah, I would say on Kia White though, we've been
waiting for it, and he's had some moments in camp
over the last couple of years where people excited about him,
and he just hasn't really developed as a pass rush.
He's really stiff and such contrast to me when you
watch Chase On who's a veteran now has been on
a couple of teams, has some pass rush arsenal and
you know you see him bust out different stuff out

(28:14):
and Kem White, I feel like, if he can't go
through the guy, he's going to struggle.

Speaker 5 (28:18):
I like him when he's going right on a guard.

Speaker 6 (28:20):
But now you've got Milton Williams and Christian Barmberre I
do that so and it's troubling to me when they
say we got to find a home from him, I said,
I think I said that this week on PU But
when you were in a Belichick defense and it was
always going to be something different, you never knew quite
what it was going to be. Then you held out
a little more hope for someone who like Kem White,
who might not have a home. But now you're in
a defense that seems pretty straightforward where it's like, we're

(28:42):
going to come after you with our front four. You know,
sometimes we're gonna sprinkle some other blitzess in, but for
the most part, it's about our front foward getting out
field and our linebackers cleaning it up. If you can't
find a home when it's that straightforward, is he going
to be able to find out?

Speaker 3 (28:53):
This was a question that I had going into all
of this was Christian Barmore, Keon White, Milton Williams. Can
all three of those guys play on the field at
one time? And like, who's at the outside guy out
of all those three guys, and if they don't all
have a home there, it's kind of hard for Keon
White because you said, Deuce Barmore and Milon Williams aren't

(29:13):
coming off the field. So now he's a rotational pass rusher,
probably on the inside, that is, you know, rotating in there.
And that's not exactly what you had in mind. You
were hoping that he was going to be a full
time player and a three down player. But he's a
little bit stiff and a little you know, not as
flexible to play on the outside. But he's a little
too small to play on the inside on first and
second down, So like how do you exactly split the

(29:36):
atom there?

Speaker 9 (29:36):
So and certainly in passing situations is when you would
want Keon White on the inside. And definitely Barmore and
Williams are going to be out there. I could make
an argument that Williams might not be out there on
all downs. But now you're going to have you know,
Kiris Tonga, right is.

Speaker 7 (29:51):
Going to be that other guy.

Speaker 9 (29:52):
You know, it wouldn't be Keon White, it'd be a
bigger guy, a you know, a run stuffer.

Speaker 7 (29:57):
So I think Evan's point is dead on.

Speaker 9 (30:00):
But we'll see, you know, like sometimes these guys will finds.

Speaker 6 (30:04):
Now that looks like Ben Brown there is taking snaps
with Woodridge. So I was curious that the Woldridge, you know,
for football. That's trying to decipher Paul because you know,
I wasn't sure if we'd see Ben Brown, I would
see him as still being in the mixes at center
and left guard. And you know now he's snapping the
ball to Wooldridge.

Speaker 5 (30:21):
So that's a little bit strange. And I think probably
right there, Yeah with Woldridge, Yeah, Cole Strange.

Speaker 6 (30:31):
I think will play the majority of the of the
of the center STAPs and I would I would guess, yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
But it doesn't look like Drake is dressed, which I think.

Speaker 7 (30:38):
So they're not even dressing those guys.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
Doesn't seem like it because he would be out there.

Speaker 9 (30:42):
Now that would be a departure from like the Patriots
tradition that everybody else, they usually dress everybody.

Speaker 4 (30:47):
You know what I was going to say when we
were talking about just sort of defensive schemes, that's the
exact thing that came to mind. Think about how different
this team is overall from last year. We're talking about
an identity that these guys have to try and fit
right now. Where we really talking about that last year?

Speaker 3 (31:02):
Well?

Speaker 6 (31:02):
If we if we were, I don't think we knew
what we were going to be missing because I you know,
look this it's been There's been some good moments in camp.
There's been some down moments. There's been a lot of
a lot of roller coaster, I would say, and that's okay,
that's how camp can go. But I do feel like
this team knows how they want to play and knows
kind of what they want to be. And I don't
think I ever got that sense with that team last.

Speaker 5 (31:22):
Year that they really established the only.

Speaker 9 (31:24):
Thing I want to say, we don't have to make
this about last year's disappointing season, but I will give
them a little bit of leeway. They suffered some significant
injuries to key guys on defense, you know, whether it
be you know, Bentley in the middle, Pepper's situation off
the field, Dougger's ankle. They lost a lot of I

(31:45):
didn't even mention the most important one in Bombo one.

Speaker 7 (31:49):
That was the backbone of your defense, and we never
really got.

Speaker 6 (31:51):
To see that, and not just not just your best players,
to a lot of your tone setters, the leadership.

Speaker 7 (31:56):
It was the captain Jinks last year.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
And it's supposed to be hold over with the scheme
and everything, and so they were supposed to just kind
of have that bet go on, and they never really
got that chance.

Speaker 9 (32:06):
I'm not trying to defend like the defense was not
good last year, and I'm not trying to say, well,
it was better than you think.

Speaker 7 (32:11):
No, it wasn't. It was terrible.

Speaker 9 (32:12):
But they also had a lot of very important injuries.
And I don't think you ever really, you know, to
Mike to you a point, I don't think you got
to see an identity because the guys that you identified with.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
The defense really played were on the field.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
You kind of felt it.

Speaker 6 (32:24):
Week one, You're like, oh, they're in shape, they had
a hard well, they seemed like they were building towards something.

Speaker 9 (32:30):
But now, in retrospect, I think that was probably a
little bit more about the opposition than.

Speaker 7 (32:34):
It was about you.

Speaker 9 (32:35):
You know, you go four and thirteen and and the
Bengals certainly weren't ready to play in Week one, and
they they played better as the season went on.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
Well, whoever they have out there, they'll be playing with confidence.

were drunk like usual.

Speaker 13 (37:37):
Well, I'm gonna say I run on beer.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
Not exactly the but light reads coming up soon.

Speaker 14 (37:46):
I had a question.

Speaker 13 (37:47):
But usually, you know, and second and third preseason game,
I usually throw out my super Bowl prediction. Evan, I
knew I threw one out of catch twenty two, but
I got to revise it. I am picking the Ravens
to go to the super Bowl against the Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 4 (38:02):
Oh I was, I was.

Speaker 13 (38:03):
I was on the Rams bandwagon. Polly, but the whole
stafford with his back.

Speaker 7 (38:08):
Oh yeah, that's a major that's a legit concern.

Speaker 4 (38:12):
Patty what do you see from the Vikings though? That
made you think that the Vikings would get.

Speaker 9 (38:16):
That's a bold prediction.

Speaker 7 (38:18):
With the Vikings.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
I saw j McCarthy, and I think they.

Speaker 13 (38:21):
Got a really, really good almost completely.

Speaker 7 (38:24):
It makes me feel good.

Speaker 13 (38:25):
Question the big variables a quarterback, I just I think
I think Jaj McCartney will do good and then McConnell often.
That's my that's my official prediction. And I think the
Ravens are gonna win. I think if they don't do
it this year, they're never going to do it because
they got the squad this year.

Speaker 4 (38:39):
What's the first year with JJ? Now, doesn't he have
a few years to get it together? No, Justin Jefferson's young, true, but.

Speaker 7 (38:48):
He was switching to the Ravens there, Oh gotcha.

Speaker 5 (38:51):
Now we're never to Lamar.

Speaker 7 (38:52):
But I do like the I mean the Ravens pick.

Speaker 9 (38:54):
I mean, obviously every year they're a super Bowl favorite,
but I like the pick of the Vikings with Evan.
I don't think the Vikings are going to be super
Bowl caliber, but I like the outside.

Speaker 7 (39:04):
The box pick.

Speaker 9 (39:05):
NFC is kind of NFC is, but they're.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
Very top head, they are very top about Philly.

Speaker 9 (39:11):
Detroit, Minnesota. I would say, is in there.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
There's like five teams.

Speaker 9 (39:17):
I don't know if at that level can you get off?

Speaker 3 (39:20):
And green Bay has not been going well according to
my a.

Speaker 7 (39:23):
Lot of injuries too.

Speaker 5 (39:25):
Green Bay.

Speaker 6 (39:27):
Quarterback misses like five or six days of practice.

Speaker 5 (39:30):
It's it's green Bay last year.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
The Detroit interests me for obvious reasons because my guy
is no longer there, Ben Johnson, so I'm or Aaron
or of course everyone of course Williams. I do wonder
how that looks, you know, I I I don't think
it's necessarily going to go with concern, Like I am

(39:53):
not a big Dan Campbell guy, and I think he
just lost his his two masterminds, you know that are
are running the exits and and I wonder how that's
going to go.

Speaker 9 (40:01):
And I would also say, I'm really gonna pump Evans
tires too.

Speaker 7 (40:07):
San Francisco will be back. You know, there's.

Speaker 9 (40:10):
No way they're going to have all the injuries the
injuries they had last year. You know, it's hard to
imagine that happening two years in a row. They have
a pretty favorable schedule. Have you seen room there are
they're so bad that they trade for sky More.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
Hey, Kyle's going to figure out sky Moore.

Speaker 7 (40:26):
Oh yeah, see, this is what happens. What happens when
I pump is.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
Too like Andy Reid couldn't because he's not good enough
tell you what I do.

Speaker 9 (40:32):
Like Detroit, though, I agree with your being concerned about
losing the two lieutenants.

Speaker 7 (40:37):
Dan Campbell's using it.

Speaker 9 (40:38):
The one thing that he is effective at is motivation,
and he's using it as motivation. They don't think you
can win without those guys. That's that's been their their
battle guy. When you correct, and that matters light thirty
caps right right. So it's a talented team that won
fifteen games. They're going to be able to show you

(40:59):
that it wasn't a fluke.

Speaker 4 (41:00):
And and they get Aiden Hutchinson back, which is obviously
huge for that defense. And yeah, you lose your OZ,
you lose your DC.

Speaker 6 (41:05):
But the large thoughts No, sorry, I was actually paying
attention to the Patriots game.

Speaker 14 (41:11):
Here.

Speaker 9 (41:12):
I'll watch red Zone for you and I'll let you
know what's going on.

Speaker 7 (41:15):
Around the league.

Speaker 6 (41:15):
I did just want to say I I noticed, you know,
you're seeing Jared Wilson right there. Wasn't sure if he
was going to play. Alex Austin is one of the
guys that's dressed really he's emerged as that, you know,
really third corner. I would say, I think he would
have a job, so I'm not sure how much he's
going to play tonight. And last one, I was just
gonna say, as Jack Westover, who's been missing some time,
and he's out there too, So I take that as

(41:37):
a sign is that's you know, he's still in the
mix and you know, trying.

Speaker 5 (41:40):
To compete for a job here.

Speaker 6 (41:41):
But otherwise I haven't caught anybody else that's stood out
as guys that I thought would be playing that haven't.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
Yeah, so I guess Mike Rabel told Zoe on the
pregame that a lot of guys are not going to
play tonight. But I think the other point is it's
like someone has to play right, so you can't you
can't sit everybody. So you do see some guys like
Jared Wilson that might be a little bit more of
a surprise. I thought I saw an eighty one Austin

(42:06):
Hooper maybe in pads.

Speaker 7 (42:08):
As well, drive the boat a surprise.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
I mean, I don't think he's going anywhere, but you know,
just as like a guy that that maybe need him
is out there, but yeah, not.

Speaker 9 (42:18):
Not a ton of guys like they would seem like
they have decent depth at tight end too, you know,
with Belle and Scott. Maybe I missed I don't know,
trying to see him Deprepree.

Speaker 3 (42:29):
I thought I was hoping i'd see a little bit
more out of Cgdpree is one of my guys in
this UDF A class, and it hasn't It hasn't really
popped for him yet. A really good in line blocker.
But if you got you're grinding the fourth quarter of
preseason games to check out Duprees inline blocking, then you
know you and me and maybe one other person are
doing that. But yeah, how about your boy John Giles though, Polly.

Speaker 9 (42:54):
Just because I think he looks good in the uniform
doesn't mean necessarily think he's going to make the club.

Speaker 3 (42:58):
I understand, But I think that he's had some moments
like legitimately, I'm not teasing.

Speaker 9 (43:02):
You, I do, and I the reason why I talked
about him a little bit is because of what you
always say, Evan about Javon Baker. He's a little bit
different in the skill set than the other guys, and
I think he's a little bit more of an outside guy,
you know, taller, angular kind of build. I think he's
had moments. I was a little disappointed last week. I
saw you know again, I didn't I still haven't seen

(43:25):
the game, but I saw his numbers, and you know,
I had two catches for basically no yards.

Speaker 3 (43:30):
Yeah, but the targets for the ball always bad.

Speaker 7 (43:33):
One was a screen too, right, Yeah, And.

Speaker 3 (43:35):
They were not great throws. And he caught him like
he made some adjustments and had some nice hands catches
to catch him. And yeah, he definitely I don't know
if he's quite as athletic or explosive as Javon Baker,
but he's in that category. I think this is the
most surprising one. Do talk about guys that are dressed
that surprise you. I think Kim and Jones, well, har

(43:58):
White being dressed and potentially playing in this game after
he was I think we can call it demotion to
the second team over the last week.

Speaker 7 (44:07):
Didn't get with the ones.

Speaker 6 (44:09):
Through the spring and even early in camp, was a
fixture on that defensive line and early downs and you know,
as things that progressed here he is playing today.

Speaker 5 (44:17):
It didn't look I mean, he never really looks too.

Speaker 7 (44:19):
Happy about it.

Speaker 3 (44:21):
He didn't look too happy on the other day, but
it was obvious you had.

Speaker 6 (44:25):
You know, on the the practice on Tuesday, you had
clearly the guys who probably weren't going to play on
the right field, and then you have the guys in
the leftield who probably were going to play. And you
could see Kieron White was over there, and I think
that really continued to turn heads. Heads were already turning
that he.

Speaker 5 (44:38):
Wasn't playing as much with the top guys. So, uh,
we'll see what he's got tonight.

Speaker 4 (44:43):
All Right, Nate's been waiting a while, So Nate, we'll
get you out there in Connecticut. What's going on.

Speaker 8 (44:50):
Here?

Speaker 3 (44:50):
We well, Nate, not much.

Speaker 15 (44:54):
So I got a couple of thoughts on two players.
First off, because Jalen Folk, I think we're either gonna
cut him or he's gonna get traded. Uh, he just
hasn't been like, he hasn't done anything really. You know,
he's out with fifth season with the shoulder injury, and
you know he didn't really do much last season either,

(45:17):
and he's taken up room on the roster. I just
I just don't see him succeeding here. I think we're
probably gonna cut him or trade him. You know, I
wish him luck in a different team, but I just
don't think New England's right for him. Just like Elliott
Wolf said, you know, we didn't put him in the
best place last year. But yeah, and then my second

(45:40):
player is Ben Brown. I think we're gonna probably hang
on and I want to see how he played. But
when he was a center for Drake May, he definitely
wasn't that good, but he was. You know, he had
he had some plays here and there, but he also
gave up. He gave up some plays. But you know,

(46:03):
with the Alterntive line, you know, Morgan Moses being on
the older side, and gold strange and the Ben Brown
and the whole center thing, it could it could go sideways.
And so I feel like Ben Brown is a serviceable
player to have.

Speaker 3 (46:17):
Thanks guys, Thanks.

Speaker 5 (46:19):
Date, Thanks State.

Speaker 3 (46:19):
Yeah. I do wonder if you know Jared Wilson being
suited up and looking like he's going to play in
this game, to maybe get a look at him and
Ben Brown next to each other in a game. I
don't know which one's going to play center, Probably Ben
Brown but if I had to guess, I think we
might be trending in that direction of the line being Campbell,

(46:42):
Ben Brown or Wilson. Wilson or Ben Brown and Moses
and no Bradbury. I think if you're just basing it
off of who's played the best in practice, I think
that Bradbury is the odd man out there. But I
don't know if they're ready to pull the plug yet
on Bradbury, but I'm just saying that's that's how I've
seen it with those guys. So I wonder if they're
both going to play in this game to get a

(47:03):
nice look at what would it look like if we
have Wilson and Ben Brown next to each other at
center and left guard.

Speaker 6 (47:09):
Interesting that brad Berry isn't It doesn't look like he's dressed,
so he's probably been the one that I think has had,
you know, some struggles too. But it's interesting. I just say,
on Jalen Polk, I think you put him to I
R say see you next year. He might have a
little bit better chance at a roster spot next year,
but it's it's going to be, you know, fight or flight.

Speaker 11 (47:28):
You know.

Speaker 7 (47:28):
If what is accurate too though, that he's having surgery.

Speaker 5 (47:32):
You can't trade him.

Speaker 7 (47:33):
Yeah, he's out for there.

Speaker 9 (47:36):
They might be able to reach an injury settlement with
him of some sort and cut him that way, that
happens from time to time.

Speaker 7 (47:43):
He can save a little money. But I don't think
he's coming on I R.

Speaker 9 (47:46):
I don't think he's got next year, and I guess
he will be. I don't think you'll see him back, Yeah,
I think, you know, if he last the season on
ir here, my guess is that they'll probably cut ties
with him at some point in the.

Speaker 6 (47:59):
Off Such a fascinating player to me in my time
of covering the team up close, working here and watching practices,
and you know, just I've never seen anything quite like it.
Where he's catching a lot of passes in the summer
and then, you know, a couple of mistakes, things snowball
on him, and then he gets hurt, and then he
comes back. He's fighting through it all year. He comes
back and first game back blows his shoulder out again.

(48:23):
Just tough, tough break for the kid. And you see
how an NFL career can just get derailed so easily. Yeah,
a couple of injuries, a couple you know, blown opportunities,
and all of a sudden, you know you're looking at
it next year, you're going to be fighting for for
a potential roster spot.

Speaker 3 (48:37):
It's a tough one for this front office. It's a
tough one for this front office and Elliott Wolf because
they were kind of on an island thinking that Polk
over Lad McConkie, and they picked their guy, and Jalen
Polk and Ladd McConkie looks like a star. And I
hate playing that game. It's so easy to do it,
and I hate doing it.

Speaker 7 (48:55):
I love playing it, but I understand.

Speaker 3 (48:57):
But it is not just Ladd mcconkee either. Like they
could have had I Mitchell. They could have had Troy Franklin,
who looks like he's going to start in Denver like Tamate.
They could have had his teammate, whom yeah he's got
the neck thing now, but he's he's had a better
start to his career as well than Jalen Polk. So
whatever they used to do to evaluate receivers, I hope

(49:18):
that Mike Rabel and Ryan Cowt and have a different
plan because it's just the same beat, you know, it's
the same. It's a different chapter of the same book.

Speaker 6 (49:26):
And that.

Speaker 7 (49:28):
Treylon Burke's Yeah, yeah, it's just the.

Speaker 3 (49:31):
Same thing over and over again. And and Jayvon Baker's
kind of headed in the same direction too, And not
that he's a complete, you know, wash out yet for
the season like Jalen Polk is, but we're seeing that
headed in that direction as well. So hopefully the Kyle
Williams goes in a different path, because it's it's tough
to look back on.

Speaker 4 (49:48):
It's gonna say, Kyle Williams, one guy will certainly be
looking out for. Uh who's been waiting here? Anthony in
Long Island.

Speaker 8 (49:56):
Anthony, Hey, guys, Hey guys, what's going on? I had
one question and it pertains to Gonzo. I feel like, like,
how worried are you guys have his availability for week one?
Because I feel like every week we hear he's not
practicing this week, and then that's the only thing we hear,
and I'm a little concerned, like we obviously really need him.
We got a little depth, but I don't know, I'm

(50:17):
just pretty worried. I want to know what your guys
thoughts are, if you have any information that I don't know.

Speaker 3 (50:21):
Yeah, I have zero points zero percent worried.

Speaker 9 (50:24):
I have no information, but I feel like he's going
to be playing in week one. Now, Mike, you know
me well enough. Can I possibly say I don't have
any concern I'm concerned about everything all the time, right.

Speaker 3 (50:38):
I don't know how you could be concerned about that.

Speaker 7 (50:40):
I'm not concerned about his availability.

Speaker 4 (50:42):
Cautiously optimistic, should we say that.

Speaker 9 (50:44):
I'm concerned about no, No, No, Like the hamstring, it's
a hamstring injury and sometimes those linger. And I think
he's an exceptional athlete. So he's a guy who plays
with exceptional athleticism and relies on it. And if he's
not quite right to he pulled the hamstring again and
suffer a setback. So small Sea concerned. But I agree

(51:04):
with Evan.

Speaker 7 (51:05):
I think.

Speaker 9 (51:07):
I'll just say ninety nine point nine just to give
me a slight out that he'd be ready week one.
I think Mike has done a good job. Of the
reason I think that he says that on Monday is
to do exactly what it's done. No one talks about
Christian Ganzalez the rest of the week, because he tells
you at the beginning of the week you're not going
to see him this week. So why do we You're

(51:27):
not going to ask him on Tuesday? What about Christian
Gonzalas I told you yesterday we're not going to see
him this week.

Speaker 3 (51:32):
Yeah, you end up.

Speaker 9 (51:33):
Getting yelled at like Ben Vollen.

Speaker 3 (51:34):
We have a couple of practices on Sunday and Monday
before cut down day. I think they're going to go
behind closed doors.

Speaker 7 (51:40):
After that point, we'll be surprised.

Speaker 3 (51:42):
So I would expect that the first practice that the
media is not allowed to watch, that when we take
attendance at the beginning of practice, before we kicked out,
I will cross Zero's name off and then we will
see him week one against the Raiders.

Speaker 7 (51:54):
But that's how I feel about it.

Speaker 3 (51:56):
Yeah, I agree with you that in terms of the
longevity thing, but I have no concern that he's going
to physically be ready for week I think so.

Speaker 7 (52:04):
Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 4 (52:05):
And knock on all the wood. I see her cause
I see her emails. We thank you for calling into
the Patriots pregame show, which by the way, is sponsored
by the Massachusetts two fifty campaign commemorating a history of possibility,
played your revolutionary weekend at Massachusetts two fifty dot or
let's hoad over to California with Daniel.

Speaker 3 (52:29):
California.

Speaker 4 (52:29):
Hey, Daniel, gotcha.

Speaker 14 (52:36):
I kind of had a Christian dollars question, but I'm
not gonna make you guys go back to that thank
you before we already.

Speaker 2 (52:42):
Got to it.

Speaker 14 (52:42):
But one other question I had was, I know there's
there's a you know, not much to watch tonight, but
looking forward.

Speaker 4 (52:51):
No, no, Daniel, we're excited about tonight.

Speaker 13 (52:55):
I feel you, Daniel, Okay, yeah, we are, we are
my bad Raybill has already made like a huge what's
your guys's opinion though on Stretch.

Speaker 14 (53:04):
I know he's been getting like tons of praise for
like Rabels set in Tennessee, like Game Management Buyer. You know,
he has like so much influence on the franchise. So
what your guys has opinion on that?

Speaker 5 (53:15):
Thanks, He's like sixty four.

Speaker 7 (53:20):
That was very Paul like Mike double thumbs up.

Speaker 6 (53:23):
I just say I got I like stretches energy. We've
interacted with him, it's any bit and he just seems
like a good dude.

Speaker 11 (53:29):
I I know.

Speaker 6 (53:30):
I mean, I hear all these stories about everything that
he is or isn't doing behind the scenes, So I
don't know exactly, but he's always out there floating around
and he's been good to us so far, so I
know it's a good relationship, goodro bromance between Rabel and Stretchy.

Speaker 4 (53:46):
Explain for those who don't know who Stretches.

Speaker 5 (53:48):
So Stretches Mike Rabel's right hand man, John Striker.

Speaker 6 (53:52):
He was, you know, a cross Paths first at Ohio
State and Stretched last year was with the Rams and
as soon as Mike Rabel was hired. I don't even
remember the first time I heard it, but everyone was
just like, of course Stretch will be coming with him.
So that was my first introduction to to Stretch and
so far it sounds like he, you know, has Mike
Rabel's trust. And he's actually taller than Mike Rabel, which
I think the two twin towers. Yeah, walking towards you.

(54:17):
But but like I said, he just he's got good energy.
I mean, we walked out of the radio show on
time and he go, hey, you know, give me what's up.
So you know, it's it's nice. It seems like a
nice guy. I mean, I we'll see what he does exactly.

Speaker 5 (54:27):
I know there's all those stories out there about him.

Speaker 3 (54:29):
Yeah, I think the best sum up what my understanding,
I guess at least of what he does is like
he's a combination of Barge Nigerian and Ernie Adams in
one person. So he does a lot of the football
administrative things, but he also does a lot of the
clock management, some of the advanced scouting things that Ernie
used to do. So it's like a combination of those

(54:50):
two people in one brain, which is pretty impressive given
how much those guys gave to the organization when Bill
was here. So he does a ton of things like laundry,
list of things that he has his hands in and
laundry accordingly, like also like running Mike Rabel's life, like
pretty much like you know. So he's he's an important
figure in all of this, and I think on the

(55:11):
sideline once the regular season comes around, you're going to
see him helping Rabel with a lot of the clock
management stuff and the decision making, you know, go for
it not go for it, you know that type of
stuff called timeouts, you know, how to manage clock late
in games and end halves. So he's an important figure
in all of this. Absolutely everybody you talked to. I
think he was on the first flight from La to Boston.

(55:33):
As soon as Mike Rabel signed, you know, pen to
paper on the contract to be the head coach of
the Patriots, it was within hours that I feel like
we heard that Stretch was was on his way already.
So he's definitely an important person to Rabel.

Speaker 4 (55:48):
Any thoughts on Stretch.

Speaker 9 (55:49):
Paul, I don't know him as much as these guys
do because I've never gotten a chance to meet him.
But yeah, I mean I would say that it's important
to have a guy that you trust that much in
your inner circle, and certainly that that's the relationship if
they have.

Speaker 6 (56:01):
Yeah, I mean, it feels like these last two weeks
we've gotten all the like the secret behind Mike Rabel,
Like it took like felt like a decade to find out,
Like Ernie Adams was this figure behind the scenes helping
Bill Belichick out.

Speaker 5 (56:11):
But we haven't even played a game with Rabel and
everybody already knows the Stretches.

Speaker 2 (56:14):
Like the guy.

Speaker 4 (56:15):
Yeah, well sounds like we can trust him. You know
what else you can trust guys. Brunt based right here
in New England, work Where makes work boots and apparel
that are built for the job site gear. It's comfortable, durable,
just like Fred the transition named after real workers in
the trades that help design it. You can even try
bront out on the job and if it doesn't blow

your first order at brontworkwear dot com, forward slash pats

(56:38):
or with coupon code tats. Can you guys believe we
only have a few minutes left this show? Absolutely? Flew
By will take one more call Todd? What's going on
in Jacksonville?

Speaker 7 (56:51):
Hey Todd?

Speaker 16 (56:53):
Hey, so we Paul talked about it before. And I
don't know if you touched on the show about the
death being razor thin with this team, do you see
the possibility of cuts coming and improving that depth, because
right now, with this depth and the lack of it
in the Strows, we've seen the possibility of people of

(57:19):
this team winning ten to eleven games. I don't see
it being more like six or seven. How can they
improve the depth of this team and where can they
do that with positions?

Speaker 2 (57:31):
Thank you?

Speaker 9 (57:32):
Thanks?

Speaker 3 (57:34):
I don't think that their win totals is going to
be determined by the depth on the team. It's going
to be determined by the quarterback. Like, if they're going
to exceed expectations, it's going to be because of Drake may.
I don't think it's going to be because of the
large streak running back, right.

Speaker 9 (57:47):
I mean, I don't think they have enough depth. But
if the quarterback isn't great, then it's going to be
hard to win. Again, this is like an expectation issue.
If you think they're going to win eleven games, you're
going to be let It's it's you know, it's going
to be hard to get there unless you get that
meteoric rise from your second year quarterback, which is not

(58:07):
out of the rama possibility. He has the ability, and
we've seen it in flashes in camp. We've seen the
improvement with our own eyes at times, we just haven't
seen it consistently.

Speaker 5 (58:17):
I just quick point Mike Frable's got a long history
with in Tennessee.

Speaker 6 (58:21):
There's probably a number of players, none of whom I
know off the top of my head right now, that
might come loose on Tuesday that he has experience with
when those guys come out, that those guys are the
kind of guy.

Speaker 9 (58:30):
I just don't think that that's something that you want
to rely on. I'm not gonna. I think I think
Mike is nailing it. I think Mike is absolutely right.
They're going to probably add a guy or two. Bill
did it every year and he won six Super Bowls.
So it's not like you add guys and that's a
sign of a lure. Sure, you know they'll add guys,
but it's not going to be like, oh, I was
really feeling bad about my guard situation. They got a

(58:52):
guy off waivers. You know, remember all the linemen they
got off waivers last year. Any of those guys make
you feel better, and they played off a trade. A
trade is different, and we haven't really talked too much
about the players that the Patriots could trade. And Anthony
Jennings is not in uniform tonight, but he's dealing with
an injury. He didn't really practice practice, so maybe that's
why it's related to But you could could you trade

(59:15):
like Kendrick Bourne, for instance, for a guard, you know,
like a player for player trade that you don't really
see a ton of good point ball, But maybe that's
if you're trying to upgrade the depth. I don't know
if waiver claims is really going to do it for you.
Does someone have a you know a guard that maybe
doesn't factor into their plans because they're strong at that spot.

Speaker 7 (59:35):
Yeah, that's a great point.

Speaker 4 (59:36):
They have the depth from them. Yeah, well we could
talk about all the trade scenarios because guess what, guys,
we have two hours post game to break down the
game and then everything that's going to come with it.
The show was easy, wasn't it always? Just like a
bud Light, easy to drink, easy to enjoy. Bud Light
the official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots. And
that is all the reads, Jack Off at eight. We've

(59:56):
got Patriots, we've got Giants. Both teams undefeated in the preseason.
We'll see what happens with the third and final game.
Thanks for hanging out with us. We'll see you after.
