Speaker 3 (00:28):
It's the Patriots Pregame Show, presented by Duncan, fueled by Duncan. Actually,
we're excited to be with you guys. Welcome everybody. Week one,
raiders are in town and the rain is pouring down.
Speaker 5 (00:38):
That's such a beautiful day.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
I don't know if this is football whether or not,
but I mean some would say some would say so excited.
We got it first, we got a new face here
on set, Qwannie Lunas joining us and Quanny welcome, Thank you,
Welcome aboard, Welcome aboard. You'll eventually be sitting in the
host chair here.
Speaker 6 (00:55):
No pressure, but Mike and I seem to go through
hosts at a rapid race.
Speaker 7 (01:00):
Might be hard to work with.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
You're pretty cool for now.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Well we got We got a quick shout out to
Claudia Bella Fado, who was going to hold down. The
FOURK got a great job offer down at CBS with
Florida work in NCAA football, so we want to wish
her the best. And now an opportunity has emerged for Corney.
So Quanne, thanks for joining us. You can jump right in.
You're not the only new face around here though. Of course,
Paul All summery spent with Mike Rabel, the new head
coach of the Patriots. So for those just joining us
(01:26):
here for week one, maybe they miss training camp. Give
me the give me the quick synopsis of how the
summer went here under Mike Rabel.
Speaker 6 (01:32):
Just so much optimism, energy, enthusiasm. I would say there's
a lot of excitement for the start of a new season.
But I think that the number one thing I would
take away from Rabel and his imprint on the team
that I've seen is just energy they've they've had, I think,
more of a purpose on the practice field. No more
of that forty five minutes to an hour sort of
(01:54):
warm up individual drills, waiting to get into something. This
seems to be much more of a purpose to everything
that they've done, from drill to drill, from period to period.
A lot of running a lot of intensity. You know,
we'll find out what it all means when they start
playing games. But I feel like that the way that
the Vrabel went about business in the summer, I think
(02:16):
has the fan base, the team, the organization in the building,
I think energized.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Yeah, and he's definitely a no nonsense guy out you
hear former players, current players say that he is all
about business, and I think this is exactly what the
Patriots need right now.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
It looks like it when he's jumping in the drills.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
And calling people out, turning them apart.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
You seem to get those that footage every weekend. And Guys,
before we jump into the keys, I just kind of
mention Drake May. Mike Rabel took over the team, but
Drake May, second year quarterback, fourth overall pick last year,
hopes are high for him. With Josh McDaniel's offense. We
saw you joint practice with the Commanders, we saw a
couple of joint practices with the Vikings, limited work in
the preseason game. But with Qwanny, what do you want
(02:53):
to see out of Drake May here too?
Speaker 5 (02:54):
Yeah, so that's actually one of my keys. I don't
know if I'm getting ahead of myself, but he needs
to trend upwards. We look at this cell, the Celtics,
Oh my gosh, the Patriots this season, and you know
they've the last two seasons four and thirteen, right. And
I spent the last ten years of my career working
in social media and I was covering the Celtics and
Patriots as well, and one of my jobs was to
make sure that we're following the trends that fans wanted
(03:17):
to see. But when you think about trends in the
literal definition, it's something that's happening over and over that
people are doing on a consistent basis. For the Patriots,
that trend has been being mediocre unfortunately. But right now
I think Drake May is at a position where he
can trend upward. And we're talking about Mike Raybrow. In
the preseason, he said leadership is a no days off situation.
I know that sounds very familiar to Patriots fans, but
(03:39):
it's true. And for Drake May, he's proven he can
take STAPs in the NFL. He is confident in that space.
And now this is really like last season was apartif
so to speak, and now we get to really see
him take over and show Patriots fans what he's really about.
Speaker 7 (03:52):
Do we become like blanguage?
Speaker 3 (03:55):
It's azer what do we say advertizer?
Speaker 5 (03:58):
We can say appetizer.
Speaker 7 (03:59):
If you don't know French, listen, dumb it down for you.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
Double, I got you, I got your co host? Agree
is coming out?
Speaker 8 (04:07):
All right?
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Well, you set the table already, so let's do it.
Keys to the.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
Games, get into it.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
You've waited all week for the whole teams in the
locker room right now, just listening to this, waiting to
hear what you're gonna say.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
Here are this week's keys to the game.
Speaker 8 (04:22):
All right.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
I don't want to put more pressure on you twenty,
but there is an illustrious key at risk here.
Speaker 7 (04:27):
I forget key.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Of course, what is this like season three four? Paul,
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (04:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
We've got of course, all the winners will eventually be
engraved on this at some point. Actually, we take it
very serious.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Yeah, yeah, the pressure is really on.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
We really don't engraved.
Speaker 7 (04:42):
I would just win it every week.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Paul does win it a lot. But you're the new person,
so we crush a lot.
Speaker 7 (04:47):
Don't forget crush a lot.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
But let's set the table. I know you you just
kind of hinted at your key a little bit. Why
don't you go out?
Speaker 5 (04:53):
Yeah, I'll delve in a little bit more so. Obviously
I mentioned the fact that we've seen Drake May what
he's able to do in the preseason, even last year.
But this is today's game is very vital. When you
talk about breaking those trends, one of the ways you
disrupt those trends is with leadership. But with Drake May,
now that he's been solidified as the captain, as a
leader on this team, he needs to step forward. And
I know there's some insecurities about the fact that his
(05:15):
blind side is, you know, being protected by two rookies.
But Drake has to control what he can control, and
what he can control is moving the chains, whatever that
looks like. I know, the weather's not great right now,
so if that means running the ball today, that's what
you have to do. But also with Stefan Diggs being here,
he's getting the pieces. The excuse was he didn't have
enough weapons, and now he has those weapons. This is
the year to just move the chains, get the ball
(05:37):
on the end zone, and just get some wins and
Also one thing I appreciate about Mike Rabel just one
more thing. When he was talking about leadership, he said
that not every game is going to be extraordinary. Of course,
we know that it's a long season, it's grinding, but
for Drake, he was saying specifically, it's how you come
up after the god forbid losses, how you're able to
keep your teammates above and that's what's going to look
(05:58):
like I think trending up for the Patriots this season.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Paul, we talked like all summer long. I felt like
we get into certain issues for the team, and there
are a number of areas of concern, but I feel
like we always boil it back to how does Drake play?
Can he offset some of these issues that they potentially
could have?
Speaker 6 (06:13):
Absolutely, And it's simplistic. You could do it every week
and have the same kind of thing. But I think
games like this come down to, you know, how do
your your best players.
Speaker 7 (06:25):
Performing against the other team's best players.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
The Raiders, I do not think are a great team
across the board, but they do have some high end
talent and that's why my key is involving one of
one of the individual guys that I would consider high
end talent the league. Any team that Max Crosby obviously,
so it's it's Max protect Max with two exes that
(06:48):
Max protect.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
We get it. They can't run to protect the whole.
Speaker 7 (06:52):
Time, double double X. We're going to Max protect.
Speaker 6 (06:57):
So there is a lot and Quantie brought up, you know,
the rookies on the blind side. I think it would
be sort of negligent on Pete Carroll's part and Patrick Graham,
the defensive coordinator for the Rams, to just line up
Max Crosby on the side that he normally lines up on,
which is the left defensive side, and go against Morgan
Moses the whole game. I think they'd be doing a
disservice if they didn't move him around a little bit.
(07:18):
So I do think you're going to see some Will
Campbell reps. I do think you're going to see some
Morgan Moses reps on one of the premier pass rushers
in football. And I don't think Mike, you're going to
see a whole lot of those. With Jess Morgan Moses
and just Will Campbell. I think there's going to be
some help within the form of tight ends and whatnot
chip him with backs a little bit coming out of
the backfield. So you can't let Max Crosby ruin this game.
Speaker 8 (07:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
I did go back last year, par because we had
some discussion about this this week, and I looked at
their opening game last year against the Chargers, and it
was surprising because I saw Max Crosby lining up on
the right side, but not over rookie Joe Alt who
was playing on the right side last year. So there
are some samples of them moving him around Patrick Graham,
they moved them around Hu they did.
Speaker 6 (07:58):
I think you've got fingerwaging that that might happen.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I mean, I just think if you go into this
game with the best pass rusher in the league, and
you were to lose this game and you didn't once
try to line him up against two rookies on the
especially when Mike Frabele told you on Friday that Jared
Wilson was going to be starting on the last side.
So you know, we'll see how it all goes together.
It's more than just Max Crosby. It's also they're going
to run some stunts. We got old friend Adam Butler
who can get upfield. But let's go with my last key.
(08:24):
As we get ready for Vine Boncegniori is going to
join us from the Las Vegas Review Journal give us
a view from the Raiders side of things. But mine
is looking at the other side of the ball. Not surprising.
I'm a defense guy, quanty. You'll get to know that,
I hope so you know. But mine was deep power Bowers.
I don't know if deep powers a word. Do you
know if that deep power?
Speaker 5 (08:41):
I think it makes it sound like it'd be in
a dictionary somewhere.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
But he's a big problem. Everyone knows how good he
is and very curious to see what the Patriots plan
is for dealing with Brock Bauers. Is we welcome Vinnie
Boncegni in from the last rae Las Vegas v viewed Journal.
I got tongue time. Where is Vinny from the Las
Vegas Review General?
Speaker 7 (09:03):
Okay much. I don't know what that was the first
time you tried.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
To excite for this first game and I was talking
about Brock Bowers and I think I got it was
a deer in headlights thinking about him. But Vinnie, thanks
for coming here and joining us. Just give us a
big picture view of what's going on in Vegas. Carroll
All of it. The team a.
Speaker 10 (09:21):
Lot has changed, obviously, it's it's kind of mirrored what
you guys are doing as well here with the Patriots.
So many changes, thank you very much. So many changes
kind of goes all the way back to Tom Brady, uh,
you know, joining the ownership group and and that was
a lot bigger than people may think outside of Las
Vegas and Raiderland. But that kind of started the ball
roll and Pete Carroll's not here if Tom Brady isn't
(09:43):
here with the with the Raiders. John Spike Tech's not
here if Tom Brady isn't here with the Raiders. So
that that's that's really big for this organization. But practicality wise,
Pete Carroll is now with the head coach, a massive
upgrade over last year with Antonio Pierce. There's no offensive
cord here, Chip Kelly. There's a new coach or excuse me,
quarterback in Gino Smith. So Aston Genty is here. You
(10:07):
mentioned Brock Bauers. He's pretty good football player. So it's
dramatically different from what it was last year. How much
better it is that's always going to be the question,
and we're going to get some answers.
Speaker 8 (10:18):
I think today against the Patriots.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
I wanted to talk a little bit about the defensive side.
We've talked a lot about Max Crosby. Obviously, with the
Patriots having some four new starters on the offensive line,
I'm a little curious on the other side, Malcolm Koon's
coming off the torn acl How has his summer been
and what kind of impact do you think he can
have coming off that injury.
Speaker 10 (10:40):
Interesting about Malcolm because the question going into last year
was could he pick up from where he left off
the year before. He kind of turned the corner over
the last eight games of twenty twenty three and there
was a lot of expectations for him, and then literally
a day or so before the first game of the season,
he goes down with the knee injury. It was a
massive blow for them, and so he spent all of
last year getting better. Obviously, it took up a little
(11:02):
while in training camp to kind of get his footing
and really get comfortable with coming back. He finished with
a sack in the last preseason game, and I think
that was a step in the right direction for him.
But there's been a lot of changes on defense as well. Obviously,
you've got Max Crosby, Malcolm Koons the bookend defensive ends.
You know, the linebacker group is completely different. You know,
(11:23):
you've got Devin White, You've got Jermaine Pratt, You've got
a line of Roberts former Patriot here in the back
end youth with the cornerbacks. And I would say that
that's the biggest concern for the Raiders right now. You know,
Kyu Blue Kelly is a starter, Eric Stokes is a starter.
Dicameron Richardson is the second year player. He'll get a
lot of time. Darien Porter is a rookie for Mio State.
(11:44):
He'll get a lot of time as well. But that's
there's there's probably I don't know, twenty five games tops
between all of those guys of experience, so keep an
eye on that. And then safeties. You know Jeremy Chin
they signed him from the Commanders, and Isaiah Polamou is
a returning player. But it is a different defense. And
(12:05):
what's interesting about it is while they retain Patrick Grahm
their defensive coordinator, we all know that Pete Carroll is
a defensive guy. So this is going to be kind
of a combination of what Patrick does and what Pete
Carroll does and what they do are is completely the opposite
of each other. So I'm interested to see how it
actually looks in a real game and who's you know,
(12:27):
whose weight carries the most in terms of Pete and
and and Patrick, because that will dictate how this defense
is aligned and how it plays and the philosophies that
they use.
Speaker 5 (12:37):
If I could go back quickly, you mentioned Tom Brady.
What exactly has that TV twelve effect looked like on
a day day basis, maybe in the locker room and beyond.
Speaker 10 (12:44):
Yeah, from a from a from a overhaul or or
an overall football football mentality, it's been huge. Like I said,
Pete's not here unless there's that component in place. And
it's not just Tom there. There's three that they brought
in that are pretty heavy hitters. And you know, Mark
Davis did that strategically. He knew that he needed help
(13:07):
getting this football program and the business side of things
to a to a new level. It's it's there there,
it's a it's a gold mine in Las Vegas and
they're doing well in the community. They're doing well from
a financial standpoint, but there's new plateaus that they want
to get to, especially on the football side, and so
Tom being here to kind of oversee everything. He's really
the face of the football operations now, he does it
(13:29):
in a remote way.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
He's not in the he's a locker room.
Speaker 10 (13:33):
No, he was. He was there during training camp a
few times. He was at one of the preseason games
at Allegiance Stadium. Obviously today he's somewhere. I don't even
know where it is, what what game he's got today,
But he's not going to be there on a daily basis.
But with today's technology, you know, he's a phone call
away and every big decision that's made, probably every decision
that's made on the football side.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
That makes sense.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
So that Raheem Moster was among the inactives. A little
bit more focus on Ashton Genty. How is he looked
this summer and do you expect them to be a
heavy part of the game plan today.
Speaker 10 (14:04):
Yeah, Ashton is somebody that in Las Vegas we're pretty
well aware of. You know, he played at Poise of
State and they played in the same division or conference
as as U n LV. He's the real deal. And uh,
you know it's funny talking to Pete Carol about him.
Pete somebody that goes back to he coached under Bud
Grant to give you a perspective of how long he's
been on this. So when you when you talk to
(14:26):
Pete about Ashton Genty, the wheels start going, you know,
any any and and he's like, well, he kind of
and then he start I could I could visually see
the names or the faces that.
Speaker 8 (14:36):
He's thinking about.
Speaker 10 (14:37):
He won't go there necessarily because always stops himself and
and we'll let the young guy, you know, be himself.
But Marshall fock La, Dame Lee and Tomlinson, Barry Sanders,
and I'm not gonna Emmett Smith. He's got a kind
of a combination of all those guys. I've been around
a long time. I'm not I'm not afraid to say
what I think. I think he's going to be fantastic.
I think he's going to be in contention for offense
(15:00):
Rookie of the Year, and I think he's going to
have a fabulous career. He's just there's something about him
that's special. You saw that in college, we saw that
in training camp, in his limited action in the preseason,
you saw it. I'm pretty fired up to see what
it looks like in an actual game getting twenty carries
or so, and then obviously for a full season, but
he's he's pretty good when you put him with Brock
Bauers was also pretty darn good.
Speaker 8 (15:20):
All of a sudden.
Speaker 10 (15:21):
The Raiders offense with Gina, especially with Gino Smith and
chip Kelly calling it, this has a chance to be
a pretty good offense.
Speaker 8 (15:28):
And this is was not the case last year at all.
It was a bad offense.
Speaker 6 (15:32):
And you touched on chip Kelly and he's been like.
One of the things this week is everybody's talked about
just what an unknown that is, because the last we
saw him in the NFL, he was sort of trying
to do the Oregon offense and kind of the gimmicky
kind of stuff, but from what we've seen in his
return to college kind of stepped away from that a
little bit. So no one really knows anything to expect.
(15:53):
Do you think it's going to be about gent today?
You know whether or not was standing that that could
change you know, anyone's game plan, But going in, assuming
that the weather was normal, would you expect him to
try to establish gente and play that.
Speaker 8 (16:05):
Way without question?
Speaker 10 (16:07):
But there's also an understanding that you know, when you
have a weapon like brock Bauers that the offense is
going to run through him, at least the passing game
offense is going to run through him. But you also
have a Jacoby Myers who's you know, pretty darn good
as well. And you've got a couple of rookies Dante
Thornton and Jack Besh And Dante is a guy that
you know, earned a starting role. He's kind of a
(16:30):
you know, situational guy run He's six foot five, could
run a four three forty, so he's their long ball guy.
But he showed in training camp that he's more than that.
I think that was a little bit of a surprise,
which is why he's he's one of the starters. But
also keep an eye on Trade Talker and Michael Mayer.
I should say, I think Michael Mayer in this offense,
the Raiders have sort of short changed him a little bit.
(16:52):
He's a good football player who was a great football
player at Notre Dame, and I just don't think that
they've utilized him correctly over his first two years. I
guess the feeling that that's not going to be the
case anymore. Now it's going to be obviously in conjunction
with brock Power, so you've got to keep that in perspective.
But I would I would say that that he's going
to be a pretty big part of the game plan.
But yes, to answer your question, it's going to be
(17:13):
the action. You don't draft a running back sixth overall
and then ease him in or do a committee. It's
going to be his show. Provided he stays healthy, he's
going to get the bulk of the carries.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Get another quit.
Speaker 5 (17:24):
Yeah, from what you've seen, we did our keys right
before you got in here. So what would you say
are some of the keys for the Patriots When it comes.
Speaker 10 (17:30):
To the Patriots side of things, you know, definitely trying
to win the turnover battle. Pete Carroll is twenty four
and eleven in games that start ten am for his teams.
You know, if you go back to his Seattle days,
which is pretty darn good. It's kind of unheard of. Actually,
he's got a little formula. He won't share the details,
but one of the things that he did say to
me was he was actually actually short changed himself. He
(17:53):
said that there were plus twenty eight on the turnover differential.
I went back and looked at it was actually plus
thirty four.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
I was like, that's the difference between a real reporter
would wear a long time ago.
Speaker 8 (18:07):
You never trust coaches is a little bit different. It's
usually less. It's usually they usually give themselves a little
bit more.
Speaker 10 (18:13):
He actually short changed himself so and he said, look,
if you want to know why we won those games,
it's because we won the turnover battle. So I think
this game, especially with the weather, and especially with two
teams that two new offensive coordinators, two new head coaches,
a new quarterback for the Raiders, a second year quarterback
who's in a in his first year with Josh McDaniels,
I think the team that makes the least mistake mistakes
(18:35):
is going to And I know that's a cliche, but
it's typically what it comes down to, especially these early
season games.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
I just got to ask you one more. You know,
Jacoby Meyers, our old front from here, what's going on
with him there in Vegas right now?
Speaker 10 (18:46):
He's not happy with the contract. He's making ten point
five million dollars this year. That's that's not what he's worth,
especially coming off the season that he came off of.
They're trying to work something out that'll that'll make them
happy at least for this year. But he's made a
trade demand. We talked to him on Wednesdays, like you know,
I made the demand. They said no, and so that
(19:06):
was as far as that way. But I'm ready to
play if they want me to play. I'm ready to go.
If they want me to go. I'm happy here. But
I can be happy everywhere else.
Speaker 8 (19:14):
You know. They the money's green everywhere.
Speaker 10 (19:17):
So so he's he's not hiding the fact that he's
not happy with the contract, but he's also I think
you guys probably know Jacoby. He's not going to be
somebody that's going to sabotage himself for the team. He's
going to go out, which makes the trade demand a
little bit, you know, like a like a dog that's sparking,
but he doesn't have a bite. I think the writers
understand he's going to be a professional about this, So
(19:38):
I would think that they would work something out at
least for this year, maybe bump up his salary, you know,
to guarantee a few a little bit more money, and
then revisit it in March.
Speaker 6 (19:46):
Now you're saying that he made the trade demand and
they said no, when he said, oh okay, it is
the least surprising thing that Mike. And if you get
a chance to meet Jacoby's dad.
Speaker 7 (19:57):
Yes, so just of the show, he was he would he.
Speaker 6 (20:01):
Would write into our show, good family, good people. I'm
not surprised at all. That would be a professional about it.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Yeah, all right, well, any can we get a score
prediction out of you?
Speaker 10 (20:09):
Oh boy, this probably won't make Patriots is a patriotation?
Speaker 7 (20:15):
Or sure?
Speaker 8 (20:16):
Well?
Speaker 10 (20:16):
Okay, Raider Nation hates that it's theirs and they make
you know about it. I'm gonna say Raiders twenty one
sounds good.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Vinnie bon Signori, Las Vegas Review Journal, thanks so much
for taking the time to sit down with absolutely.
Speaker 8 (20:31):
Thank you guys.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
Sorry for figuring no worry remember.
Speaker 7 (20:34):
Any any weather here. This is brutal week one. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
take care of guys. We'll see upstairs in a little while.
All right, I'm gonna do it. Oh you got some

The Patriots pregame show was sponsored by the Massachusetts two

(21:10):
weekend at Massachusetts two fifty dot or good stuff from
from Vinny there. I'm not sure why I couldn't quite
get Las Vegas Review Journal out there.
Speaker 8 (21:18):
I was.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
I was a little bit first.
Speaker 6 (21:20):
You know, it's you know, it's kind of it's the
most elementary thing. But the fact that Brady's here, Like,
I didn't think you would be here.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
Oh is he here?
Speaker 7 (21:27):
Well, he said he's here somewhere all the.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Game ors he's not calling any games or anything today.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
Well maybe today, it might be later.
Speaker 7 (21:34):
Maybe I don't know.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Maybe maybe he doesn't go by his statue like.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
Guys, you know, maybe maybe he was Yeah, maybe he
was being facetious and I didn't I didn't pick up
on that.
Speaker 7 (21:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (21:45):
No, I think it was being serious.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
No, I just I didn't want to ask him about
the tuck rule. But I imagine that that's got to
get buried in radio's history. Now, we can't we can't.
Be kind of strange, wouldn't it that, like one of
the guys who's responsible for one of your most hated
controversial players.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
Now now in charge of literally owns your team.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
A little bit strange on there. But hey, we've got
some calls coming in. Let's jump over to the phone
line here. Nate's down in Connecticut. Nate, what's going on?
Speaker 8 (22:07):
Uh? Not much?
Speaker 11 (22:08):
Are you guys doing good?
Speaker 12 (22:09):
Hi?
Speaker 8 (22:09):
Nate?
Speaker 13 (22:10):
So my question for you guys, Uh, so, obviously Foxboro
really crappy weather raining.
Speaker 9 (22:19):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (22:20):
I don't think it's gonna be too windy, but there
might be you know a little gust here and there.
How do you think this affects, uh, the Patriots initial
game plan? Do you think they were gonna go heavy
on the path and with you know, with the conditions today,
do you think they're going to rely more on the
run game with uh Stevenson and Henderson or do you
(22:41):
think despite the weather, they're gonna still you know, take
some shots down deep.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Thanks guys, Yeah, thanks, Nan, appreciate it. Yeah, we're keeping
an eye on the weather.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
What's the latest, by the way, So, yes, this is
a perfect segue. Great question, Nate, I actually I work
at NBC. I didn't say we're so. I work at NBC.
I do a show call The Hub, Today's Entertainment Life
Style Show. But I called in our meteorologist, Tavin Wooten,
because of course weather is playing a huge role in
a game like this, so he sent me a little radar.
If you want to go on Instagram, you can find
me quantity Alunis I put on my story, but he did.
(23:09):
He said, big, big day for the run game and
RPO because it is looking like the rain's gonna stick around,
and so probably after the game ends. So Boxborough, like
you said, is really wet right now.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
I love talking always looks at me.
Speaker 6 (23:23):
The wind is a good question, perfective, and I don't
I think both teams were going to come out. We
talked about this all week and run the ball, so
I don't necessarily think.
Speaker 7 (23:34):
I don't think the wind.
Speaker 6 (23:35):
I don't think the weather's going to have much of
an impact on this game because I don't think it's
overly windy. I just looked up on my app and
it's like, you know, it's sixty four degrees and the
wind is making it feel like sixty two so the
wind is negligible, right, If the wind picks up, and
as Nate said, you know you get some gusts now
that I think that can affect the passing game a
(23:57):
little bit. You get a wet ball and you're not
exactly sure maybe you're not throwing it with conviction through
the you know, through the wind and it's wet, that
would impact it. But if as long as it's as
long as it's kind of still, yeah, I feel like,
you know, ball security always with a ball, I was
going to so my point is, like, is it harder
(24:17):
to hold onto the ball when you're running with it
or catching it and running with Like, to me, it's
ball security. Either way, it'll have it. It'll have an impact.
I don't think it'll be a huge deal. You know,
if you had this kind of rain, say in early November.
Now you get a cold rain and you know, just miserable. Right,
(24:38):
So yes, I'm not going to say it will have
no impact, but I don't.
Speaker 7 (24:41):
Think it's going to be a major impact. Jump like
eleven turnovers in the game.
Speaker 11 (24:51):
Hey, what's up lady and gentlemen? By So I got
to point something out, Paul. You don't get much stuff wrong.
But you did get one thing wrong during the week.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
I get more sure I got more than one.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
No, come on, let him have it.
Speaker 11 (25:05):
I gotta agree with my nan aldred g don't likes
to go deep, and if you look at his metrics,
he was one of the best deep passers in the
league last year. One of the things that worries me
is not having our full compliment of cornerbacks I e.
Christian Gonzales not playing today. They do have Thornton and
I can't remember the other young guy who's a speedster.
I think they're going to test the steeps and if
(25:26):
it doesn't work, it doesn't work. But I do think Geno,
being the pastor that he is and the experience that
he has, will test us deep and at least initially
to see if we can stop it. But to me,
the biggest equalizer is going to be if our our
defensive line can get pressure. I like us to get
pressure against him, especially when it counts. I'm i gotta
have it down the third and fourth quarter on third down.
(25:48):
I got the Pats winted today twenty seven to twenty three.
Let's freaking go baby.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Thanks Patty, appreciate it. You guys are seeing warn ups
right now. Shout out Travon Henderson. Of course the rookie
is now wearing that patch on their uniform, so their
first game, So Trevion making his debut should be exciting,
definitely a player. Roll keep an eye and we're gonna
take a quick break. But first i'd point you to
Paul's quarters. It you might notice it's a brunt space

That's right, Patriots pregame shoe Show fueled by Duncan. We're
watching Digs and Booty take the field. There Stefon Diggs
about to make his debut with the new England Patriots.
Speaker 5 (28:54):
I'm digging it.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
Exciting. I've been waiting to say that, All okay, you
dig it, and to get Pop Douglas as well.
Speaker 5 (29:01):
Hey, get the moves. That's see you.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
They almost started. They almost tried to get you zoning
on the red zone already, Paul, But you're not quite
there yet. Don't worry. But I'm sure that's more of
a postgame show feature some great games. Let's talk guys
just for a second. Inactives came out, not a lot
of surprises. We knew that Christian Gonzalez wasn't going to
be able to go. Anthony Jennings maybe not a total
surprise to people who are following through training camp, Paul,
(29:26):
any any general takeaways. Will Campbell was on the injury
report looks like he's going to give it a go.
Speaker 15 (29:30):
No.
Speaker 6 (29:30):
I think that's probably the biggest item of news that
came out is I think we all expected Will Campbell
to play, but we officially get word now that the
enactors have been released that Will Campbell will be UH
will be in the lineup, and I assume starting at
left tackle. But yeah, you know, Gonzo, we knew was
going to be out. That's a big blow. I mean,
you can make an argument he's the best player on
the team, so to not have him in week one
(29:53):
is not ideal, But we knew that during the course
of the week the rest. I'm sure some people are
a wondering a little bit about e Ftin Chisholm, but
also coming off a bit of an injury from that
Minnesota game, and you know conservative, I mean, he's sixth
on the depth chart at wide receivers, so that that
one didn't come as a surprise, and Tommy DeVito being
(30:15):
the emergency quarterback.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
I know, I'm really bummed by that. By the way,
people are.
Speaker 6 (30:18):
Going to be looking to see if he can supplant
Josh Dobbs as the as the number two.
Speaker 5 (30:23):
UH.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
I don't think that he's been here long enough to
really legitimately do that yet, but.
Speaker 7 (30:28):
We'll keep an eye on that going forward.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
Let's got a couple couple of Christians from California line. Now,
let's go first to Christian in l a Hey. Christian,
I usually stay away from religion. It's Sunday Happy Week one.
Speaker 7 (30:42):
I cracked him up.
Speaker 8 (30:50):
Week one.
Speaker 16 (30:51):
I am excited. I am excited, but I'm mostly nervous.
You guys all know why I'm why I'm nervous, and
the weather changes that even even more. With that, I
have my set of expectations and my set of things
that I will accept. So I'll ask you guys the
same of Drake May, of the defense as a whole,
and then of the rookies. So what I mean is
(31:13):
of Drake May, I am expecting two hundred yards passing,
one touchdown at about forty yards rushing the defense, I'm
expecting they let about thirteen fourteen points. And then the
rookies Drake Von Henderson twenty five yards rushing, ten yards
passing and onwards. What you guys think? I got the
(31:35):
pass winning seventeen thirteen. Here we go go, Pats, go
for us.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
Thank you, Christian did you reade all that down corny?
Speaker 5 (31:43):
Yeah, but you know, I wanted to ask Christian, I
heard you, guys, I don't know. If you said thirteen
points for the defense, does this mean this is a
very defensive scoring game for.
Speaker 6 (31:51):
The game, I would just say that, I don't you know,
I'll take a win no matter how it comes. Obviously,
if you're the Patriots right now, you've won eight games
the last two years, so I don't think any Patriot
fan is going to lift a look a gift victory
in the mouth, so to speak. But if it was
seventeen thirteen, I'd be disappointed if that's the kind of
game that unfolds. Unless the weather really does impact the game,
(32:14):
I'd be really really disappointed if it was a low
scoring game like that. And as far as Drake may,
if we're not looking at two hundred yards passing, then.
Speaker 5 (32:27):
What are we doing?
Speaker 7 (32:27):
Something went wrong?
Speaker 6 (32:28):
Right again, and barring the weather just not allowing you
to throw the ball, which I think it's just raining right, it's.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
That big of a deal to tell from the footage
where I mean, we're in the tunnel right now, but
it didn't look to.
Speaker 7 (32:41):
You're watching them go through Walnuts might even look. I agree.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
I mean it's definitely raining. And I'm just talking about
the way they're going about their business.
Speaker 5 (32:50):
They're like no one even know.
Speaker 7 (32:52):
That they're fighting the elements trying to get through.
Speaker 5 (32:54):
The Pregameall players are used to it for the most part.
Wherever you played, you were in some region with bad
way at some point in your life. This is this
shouldn't be.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
New to Vegas. No raign in Vegas.
Speaker 5 (33:03):
Well, yes, like you said earlier, held up, let's uh the.
Speaker 7 (33:08):
First round pick right there, Will Campbell.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Yeah, and let's head back to California with another Christian
in California.
Speaker 5 (33:13):
He christ the odds.
Speaker 17 (33:16):
Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 14 (33:17):
Guys?
Speaker 17 (33:17):
First time call, a long time listener. So my question
isn't directly related to the game, but it does have
some sort of cordvation considering I'm going to talk about
a free agent. I'm curious with what you guys teams
on Christian Wilkins are still be still out there, if
you guys would take a chance on them, or if
you guys would still just kind of stay with that
and I'll take it off there.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
I forgot about Christian Wilkins, who was signed a big
deal last year by the Raiders and then was I
guess released. Is that exactly how go went with There
was some weird stuff going on, and.
Speaker 6 (33:45):
Yeah, I mean there's a lot of issues there that
people have gone back and forth about. I know Adam Butler,
for one Patriot was somewhat critical at the same time
as being sympathetic to what ever Wilkins is dealing with,
but he was sort of insinuated that there were some
mental health issues that Wilkins was going through. I would
(34:07):
say the fact that he is still not signed by
anybody would tell you that that's probably the line of
thought around the league. Patriots have been strongly working on
the defensive line. That's what I was going to talk about,
whether it be practice squad, There's been constant back and
forth right up until yesterday when Mike you should probably
read off that lad.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
Corey Durdin was promoted to the active roster and Jeremiah
Farms was released. Still a chance jarem My Farms comes
back to the practice squad, but just the latest and
a bunch of moves they've done on the defense.
Speaker 6 (34:38):
And just to add a little bit to that, Dirden
was actually signed to the active roster to replace Farms. Yes,
so that is not just a practice squad elevation. He's
going to stay on the roster until they release him,
if they do. But there's been constant tinkering with the
defensive line. I think they're looking for. I would think
(35:00):
some more stout, run stuffing kind kind of players. I
would have thought Farms would have fit into that, kind
of has a backup behind kiris Tonga. But at least
for now he's he's off the roster, Dertin's on it.
But Christian Wilkins, to me, the bigger thing is that the
fact that no one signed him. I mean, it's obviously
a tremendously talented player.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
I know, he's really intriguing to me. Last year, I
mean he's just I mean, he's kind of from the area,
so he had a little bit of a connection to him.
I think the Patriots, you know, we're talking him last
year before he signed that monster deal. But anytime you
got a big, tough guy like that with personality, there's
a lot to like there. Hopefully he figures it out
and is able to get back in the league. But
just jump back to the phones here real quick. Parker
(35:42):
calls in from Bolton. Hey, Parker, how good? How are you?
Speaker 13 (35:49):
I'm doing good.
Speaker 17 (35:50):
My big question is how all the injuries Tom and
Christian gonzald is going to affect the game and possibly
the season.
Speaker 6 (35:58):
Well, thanks, park Gonzales is a that's a significant blow.
As I mentioned, I feel he's the Patriots' best player,
most talented player. I think he would have allowed you
to do some different things, maybe potentially with Brock Bowers
in terms of coverage. Maybe have you know Gonzalez's length
on a taller athletic tight end in Bowers, Maybe get
(36:19):
more physical with him, with Carlton Davis and allow Gonzales
to handle Jacoby Myers. I think with one of those
got you know Gonzo out, I think it kind of
limit some of those options.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Yeah, sure, jump back. Oh no not yet. Sorry, Well
we're watching more ups here going through all the rookies.
Speaker 7 (36:35):
I mean, yeah, what do you feel like with the
Bauer situation? Guys? What do I mean? How do you
guys feel that they might attack?
Speaker 6 (36:41):
Yeah, a guy with over one hundred catches is a
rookie all Pro season as a rookie.
Speaker 7 (36:45):
That you don't see that kind of We love THEATA Williams.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
You know, one of the reporters suggested, oh, do you
put a corner on him? He said, on then they're
just going to run the ball on you. I think
it's a spin the dial kind of thing, especially on
third downs. I'd consider that though third and long when
you're not as worried about the run. But I'm curious
without moster, you know, is it all on genty today?
And is that you know? Can is he ready for capable,
ready to jump right in, you know, be a huge,
(37:08):
huge part of their offense. I'm sure he was going
to be already, but even more so now. But uh,
same thing with Will Campbell and Max Crosby.
Speaker 5 (37:16):
You step up to the moment.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
You know, and that's what it boils down to. Right,
you're gonna have to make some place. They're probably gonna
make some place, to think.
Speaker 6 (37:22):
So yeah, they'll have Zamir White more of like a
third down kind of an option. But you're right, because
I have some respect for most of it, maybe because
he's had some good games against the Patriots with Miami,
so I think that him him not being the lineup
I think was a good development for the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
Well, got a lot of confidence today. And it's important

Speaker 3 (38:09):
Hey Nelson, thanks for calling in. What's up?
Speaker 7 (38:12):
Let's get ready to rumble?
Speaker 5 (38:14):
Hey Okay Nelson.
Speaker 18 (38:18):
Twenty eight twenty one Hate is All the.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Way twenty one Love it? Thanks Nelson. Now we're heading
over to cuck Car and Jackson. What's up?
Speaker 8 (38:28):
Kakr Yo?
Speaker 16 (38:30):
So I got one question?
Speaker 3 (38:32):
One, just one.
Speaker 16 (38:34):
When does Trayvon Henderson take over.
Speaker 6 (38:38):
Take over it in terms of being in terms of
being the lead back or being an impact player.
Speaker 8 (38:45):
Lead back.
Speaker 6 (38:47):
I don't think that will happen but he'll be an
impact player. I think Mike is right right from the outset.
I think he's going to be the most dangerous weapon
the Patriots have on offense in twenty twenty five?
Speaker 3 (38:59):
Very possible.
Speaker 11 (39:00):
Is he the starting kick return to Yeah?
Speaker 7 (39:04):
I would think yeah.
Speaker 6 (39:05):
I think, uh, you'll see Stevenson and I mean Henderson
and Gibson back there on kickoffs as well. Yeah, not
not Jones on kickoffs. No, probably punts for for Marcus Jones.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
All right, thanks, as it's the car about Kendall in
North Carolina?
Speaker 8 (39:22):
Hey Kennell, it was going on?
Speaker 6 (39:25):
Guys, Kendall, were you banned from the North Carolina campus
as a Patriots fan? Did they just say, no, you
can't come in here.
Speaker 18 (39:35):
No, I've got the door. Good what are y'all doing
in just an hour?
Speaker 3 (39:43):
So nowadays, yeah, we shortened it up a little bit.
Speaker 6 (39:45):
Pregame is an hour, the postgame will remain two hours
to let everybody celebrate slash.
Speaker 18 (39:50):
Vent Okay, Okay, got you gotcha. I just want to add,
how do you think the second What did you think
with the ring I heard is supposed to be going
on throughout the game? Do you think you we're having
a thick own like brought battle that you know, stiff Offen.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
No, I had enough.
Speaker 7 (40:06):
Yeah, I don't. I don't think it will.
Speaker 6 (40:08):
But you know, all it takes is, you know, a
high pass off a guy's hands that maybe would have
been able to corral uh with the dryer dryer conditions,
you know, one or two of those, and all of
a sudden, you know, you lose a completion of worse,
you end up committing a turnover. That's gonna be the
difference in the game. I think these are pretty evenly
matched teams. There could be something like that that makes
the difference.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
Right, let's grab one more call here Elder down in
North Carolina or whether he is driving about Haildred.
Speaker 9 (40:35):
Hey fellas, Hey lady, No, I'm off to day watching
the game.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
There you go?
Speaker 9 (40:40):
Yeah, two keys, uh like you. First one, I want
to see the killer out of Drake may and and
the guy I picked up a poke and Baker and
y'all laughed at me. I won't to see what they do,
gets Donte Thordon when they run deep six five four three,
Mike Gavin, Yeah, and I let it go from there.
Speaker 10 (41:02):
All right, bye?
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Thanks Elgick, appreciate it. Chiming in. Of course, he Eldrick
loves like big, tall, fast, wide receivers.
Speaker 6 (41:10):
And he's very consistent. I tend to share his thoughts.
I think the sort of smaller shift to your guys
are kind of it. You know, everybody has those. I
think these are the guys that that are difference makers
and not everybody has That've been Patriots really been looking
for a, you know, a bigger option on the outside
for a while. They try to force to be guys
like Devonte Parker in that role. But I don't know
(41:34):
a ton about Thornton as a pro. Obviously know what
he did at Tennessee, but we'll see what kind of
an impact he has. I thought Vinnie Bunsignoria, our pregame guest,
was pretty high on him. He thought he was he
was sort of builled as a one trick pony, downfield guy,
and he thought he showed to be more than that
during training camp.
Speaker 7 (41:51):
We'll see what he's like as a pro.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
Said won the job. I thought that was interesting how
he said as an opportunity there. Hey, Patriots fans, game
day is almost here, so stock up now, Grab a
refreshing Pepsi zero sugar twelve pack now because tailgating deserves PEPSI.
I think Paul would agree with us.
Speaker 7 (42:06):
Let's do the ocean diet type are we doing?
Speaker 3 (42:08):
We're doing an intro Matt to over Unders this year. Yeah,
we are, ay right on time now for this week's
edition of over Unders.
Speaker 8 (42:14):
You're over me?
Speaker 4 (42:15):
When will you under me?
Speaker 5 (42:17):
Well?
Speaker 11 (42:17):
Then I like that?
Speaker 8 (42:18):
All right?
Speaker 3 (42:18):
The over unders are brought to you by why not?
Speaker 8 (42:21):
Ay?
Speaker 3 (42:22):
All right, guys, we're gonna start off with Drake May
passing yards, uh, two hundred and twenty yards that ladies
first over under.
Speaker 5 (42:30):
I'm gonna take ooh, it's the weather now, now, the
weather's getting in my head. I'm gonna take the over
on that. I believe in Drake May.
Speaker 3 (42:38):
When he's on the over Paul, what do you got?
Speaker 5 (42:40):
Don't disappoint me.
Speaker 7 (42:41):
Paul was gonna take the over on that as well.
Speaker 5 (42:43):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (42:44):
Twenty seems like a modest enough total.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
Yeah, I'll make it. I'll make it all three of us. Hey,
all on the over on Drake. Let's talk Stefan Diggs
receiving yards fifty point five twenty back to you. Oh no, wait,
we're doing we do we do, we do it. Yeah,
we do it all year up.
Speaker 7 (42:59):
Right, Okay, I'm going to take the under on that one.
The under for Diggs.
Speaker 6 (43:05):
I think I think Douglas might be the guy that
gets the artist volume today.
Speaker 3 (43:11):
I'm gonna go I'm gonna go over. I'm feeling positive
Stefan Diggs first day.
Speaker 5 (43:16):
Breaker because you know, I was driving in and then
people were concerned, like a cl why is he back.
I'm gonna go ahead and bet on him as well.
I'm gonna take the over. I think if.
Speaker 3 (43:27):
Yeah, feeling positive, all right, you just turn and of
course I get to go first. On an Ashton Genty question,
I kind of cause brother I took him in a
mock draft and people were upset with me for a
while for the just causing discussion. That's all genty eighty
point five. I'm gonna go over. I'm gonna go over.
There's one thing I'm not quite sure about. One of
(43:48):
them is run defense. So I'm gonna go over with
Ashton Genty. I think he's gonna touch the ball a
Ton today.
Speaker 5 (43:53):
I'm gonna absolutely agree with you on that one. I'm
just scared. I look at him. I'm like that kid
can run through anything.
Speaker 6 (43:59):
And I thought that that would be the game plan.
That's Pete Carroll's history. That's why I wanted to ask
our pregame guest, Vinny felt the same way. I think
he's gonna get the ball a lot today, so I'll
take the over.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
All right, we're staying on the Raiders offensive weaponry. Brock
Bauers receptions six point five. Back to you, Corny.
Speaker 5 (44:22):
I'm gonna just go under on that one for the
sake of the Patriots.
Speaker 19 (44:25):
Shut him down, take her along quick. What do you got, PAULI,
I'm going to take the over.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
I think, you know, he and he and Myers I
think will be the guys that get the most of
the attention, most of the targets.
Speaker 7 (44:43):
I think he'll get seven catches.
Speaker 3 (44:45):
Yeah, I'm with Paul. Sorry, Corny, I'm gonna go over.
It's okay, It's okay, all right. Probably back to you.
Total touchdowns for one.
Speaker 6 (44:51):
Here's where I depressed myself. I'm going to take the
under on this one.
Speaker 3 (44:55):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (44:57):
Not a huge believer in the offenses yet.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
Yeah, Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna take the under.
Speaker 8 (45:03):
Two.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
I just I've seen too many unders in recent years,
and hopefully we can get off that this year, right, But
you got.
Speaker 5 (45:08):
Going because of the weather. I'm taking the underer as well.
Speaker 3 (45:10):
It's too wet.
Speaker 5 (45:12):
Just blame everything on the weather, all right.
Speaker 3 (45:16):
And our last one total score forty three and a half.
I've got to think about what my finals. I'm gonna
go over on this one, but not much.
Speaker 7 (45:26):
I took the under again again.
Speaker 6 (45:30):
I just don't feel like the offenses are the strength
of either team yet. I think that could change. But
I'm gonna take the the under.
Speaker 5 (45:39):
They should do a third option to take the middle.
Speaker 3 (45:42):
Take the middle, take the push, taking the push? All right?
Over unders?
Speaker 7 (45:49):
What do we take on that last one?
Speaker 8 (45:50):
You got?
Speaker 5 (45:51):
I took the middle forty three and a half.
Speaker 7 (45:53):
You can't get a half?
Speaker 5 (45:54):
That is a good point. You're forty okay, I'll take
the over. Forty four?
Speaker 7 (45:58):
All right?
Speaker 5 (45:59):
Is not even?
Speaker 8 (46:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (46:01):
You got to take forty four first overs of the year.
Speaker 7 (46:03):
All right?
Speaker 3 (46:04):
We got chances from connect get back on the phone lines.
Let's hop back there real quick as we're building up,
just about a half a half hour away from kickoff. Hey, chance, chance,
are you there?
Speaker 7 (46:17):
I'll give you one more chance, you guys, this is
going to be He'll call back. I'm sure he'll call back.
So yeah, So any any.
Speaker 6 (46:30):
Little things you know with this matchup, I feel like we,
you know, Mike and I Kwannie do shows Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Speaker 7 (46:39):
There's a lot of minutia that goes along with that.
Speaker 6 (46:42):
When you're just talking about one team all the time.
I don't feel like there's anything that.
Speaker 5 (46:45):
We you know, we haven't talked about the uniform.
Speaker 3 (46:48):
I got a little something can I do?
Speaker 7 (46:50):
That's what I'm looking for.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
This is going to make you pull out your hair.
But I don't have any leaders advantage in the kicking game.
I mean there's two you know, and you know we
brought up rain not being a huge thing, but a
rookie long snapper, a rookie kicker for the Patriots and
Daniel Carson for the Raiders one of the one of
the best kickers in the league. I mean, not great
kicking conditions, but if the game does come down to
the end, that a great answer for the Raiders.
Speaker 6 (47:12):
You would have to figure if the game came down
to a kick, Raiders would feel better about it.
Speaker 5 (47:18):
Absolutely.
Speaker 8 (47:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (47:19):
So I have an excellent kicker, and the Patriots may
have an excellent kicker, but this is his first I
don't know yet.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
Yeah, And just to drill down on Borgalis a little bit,
we've heard from some of the coaches this week saying,
you know, we felt like he wonted. It was the
entire body of work, you know, to me, watching the
practices that we watched, we didn't see everything, but we
saw a lot of it. Still a little bit surprised.
I still thought, you know, park Aroma had a little
bit of an edge. I don't think park Aroma was
landed anywhere, but I thought he kicked well this summer.
(47:46):
So we'll see what it looks like with Borgalis. Because
to be honest, from the practice that we've watched, I
you know, I don't have this like immense confidence of, oh,
this rookie came in here and he's just kicking lights out,
especially in a weather game. I mean, I know he's
you know, down from Florida, but just every little factor
that you get with a rookie kicker, it could potentially
cost you points on the scoreboard.
Speaker 8 (48:05):
Right.
Speaker 7 (48:07):
No, I like that.
Speaker 6 (48:09):
I like that addition to the analysis because we're all
talking about how both teams are kind of in the
same spot. They had two let's face it, they were
two bad teams last year. They both won four games.
They both picked, you know, very early in the first
round because they were among the worst teams in football.
They both think they've improved. They have new coaches, they
(48:30):
brought in new coordinators on the at least on the
offensive side of the ball for the Raiders for the Patriots,
both sides of the ball. They think they're better. But
it's still kind of an evenly matched game. So you
do need to talk about the margins. Yeah, and you're
right to like to bring up the addition of the
(48:50):
long snapper too, kicking and snapping in his first game
with a wet football and whatnot.
Speaker 3 (48:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (48:57):
I again, if it comes down to a kick, you'd
have to feel pretty good, if you will, Pete Carroll,
because you have one of the best kickers in football,
and the Patriots are dealing with a rookie.
Speaker 5 (49:07):
That makes this matchup so excited. No, I was just
gonna say, that's why I'm so excited about the matchup
because of the fact that both of these teams are
in their rebuild era and we get to see who's
going to prove that they're better right now at least,
which the Shift album was that I'm not even know.
For the record, I'm not a Swift fan. I was
so unintentional that I'm kicking myself.
Speaker 3 (49:24):
You're not.
Speaker 7 (49:26):
Swift fan. But I work somewhere.
Speaker 5 (49:28):
Where she's everywhere. I have to see her.
Speaker 7 (49:32):
I don't know if we can be friends, you know, guys.
Speaker 3 (49:35):
One more thing I just say there just as we
come down the last ten minutes. So it's just I'm
just really interested and you can make fun of me.
But just how does the defense come together? This is
a totally new look for defense. For what it's another
great one, you know, how does it come together with
they want to be aggressive? I mean you went, you
gave Mill Williams a ton of money. You have Christian Barmore. Uh,
You've got two new defensive ends who really their thing
(49:57):
is to go get the quarterback. How does that look
and how does it looks stopping the run, especially Paul,
You've been hammering it all week. They're going to come
in here with Gentien and really try to get him
some carries and see what he can do. How does
that all flesh out for this new defense?
Speaker 8 (50:09):
Well?
Speaker 6 (50:09):
The reason why I think it's such an interesting point
that you bring up what are we going to get
from the Patriots defense. I feel like the whole offseason,
that's what the majority of the free agent signings were.
They improve the level of talent on the defensive side
of the ball, and I think a lot of people
felt rightly so because of those improvements, this is how
they're going to play.
Speaker 7 (50:28):
They're going to lean on their defense.
Speaker 6 (50:29):
The defense is going to be you know, top you know,
some people say top five, but top ten anyway, that's
the strength of the team. All of a sudden, we
get to the last week, week and a half, and
I'm hearing a lot of talk about this could be
a high scoring game.
Speaker 7 (50:41):
Both defenses really struggling.
Speaker 6 (50:43):
Vinnie talked about the lack of experience in the Raiders secondary,
Patriots are missing their best piece in the secondary, and
all of a sudden, people are talking about this is
going to be a high scoring game. Neither one of
these defenses can stop anybody season for the Patriot right,
So what do you think I think the Patriots defense
will be. Okay, I am a little concerned about the
(51:05):
ability to stop the run, but that generally keeps the
scool it down when you run the ball it takes
longer to score, it shortens the game, and all those cliches. Now,
you can be very productive doing it, and I don't
think that they'll shut down genty today. But that doesn't
necessarily mean you have to get in the thirties to win,
because if you're running in you know, eight, ten, twelve
(51:25):
play drives that are taking seven eight minutes off the clock.
Speaker 7 (51:28):
You don't have a lot of time to score.
Speaker 3 (51:29):
Yeah, well we're closing in on it. I'm sure there
are plenty of fans out there making some nachos like
Paul shared his gourmet nachos recipe this week in the
PU newsletters and.
Speaker 7 (51:37):
Trash can nachos to a new level.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
Because football fans know that traditions matter, turning moments together
into truly something truly epic. That's what they're what inspire
us to make our masa in tostitos the traditional way,
starting with whole corn kernels, no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives,
all to give you that perfect crunch. Discover your next
tradition this football season. Head to the store, grab your
tostito's team bag and scan the code for a chance
(52:01):
to score an epic experience with the Patriots. Tostedos. Tradition matters.
I love nachos. Let's do the six pack.
Speaker 5 (52:08):
This is the Sunday six pack.
Speaker 3 (52:10):
So kick back in listing them up position. I'm getting
to get the pits back. You better bring a big stack,
get it mixed, Jack, I can't win again. This is
the Sunday sixth bad all right? First up, Miami Dolphins
at the Indianapolis Colts. Colts by one and a half.
You're back up.
Speaker 5 (52:27):
Oh my goodness, I am just going to do I'm
taking Indy.
Speaker 3 (52:33):
You take the indian Yeah, Indy at home?
Speaker 5 (52:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (52:36):
Pollie? What do you got? How you feel about those?
Speaker 6 (52:39):
I don't really feel great about either one of these teams,
but I'm gonna take Miami. I just think they have
more high end talent early in the season. I think
that wins out.
Speaker 3 (52:48):
I picked the Colts this week. I'm gonna go with
the Colts. I don't know why. I feel like Miami's
being left for dead a little maybe a little too early.
But maybe the Colts do it today. I'll take Indy.
Next one up, Pittsburgh at the Jets. Pittsburgh minus three.
They just they swap quarterbacks.
Speaker 6 (53:04):
Yeah, the Aaron Rodgers Bowl. I saw, I saw Rogers,
you know, mister you know, mister great teammate, Uh, you know,
hugging all the all the Jets and like, oh what
what problems?
Speaker 7 (53:15):
What what? I'm a great guy.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
They missed justin Fields.
Speaker 6 (53:18):
I think Pittsburgh is gonna go to the MetLife Stadium
and and lose, lose outright. So I'm going to take
the Jets, not just with the points. I'm going to
take the Jets to win the game.
Speaker 3 (53:28):
Dang j E t S. I can't quite do it.
I'm taking Pittsburgh.
Speaker 5 (53:33):
Yeah, That's where I'm conflicted. And yeah, I'm gonna go
with you. I'm taking the Trig as well.
Speaker 3 (53:38):
Four pm and we have a first the Battle of
the NFC North, the Lions.
Speaker 5 (53:47):
The Giants game on here. What was that?
Speaker 3 (53:49):
Mat just picks random ones. It's only a thing.
Speaker 7 (53:52):
Are you a Giants?
Speaker 3 (53:55):
Giants do?
Speaker 8 (53:59):
It?
Speaker 7 (53:59):
Doesn't matter?
Speaker 5 (54:01):
Octave just not really forty six. I was a freshman
at BC and uh one tough team that I was
rooting for. One and then I actually told the Patriots
fan to clean up after that. You will have Giants
weekly on there.
Speaker 3 (54:20):
Don't worry.
Speaker 8 (54:20):
Wow, Thank you.
Speaker 5 (54:21):
I put the in the drama I had.
Speaker 6 (54:24):
I had a similar college experience in my freshman year.
Speaker 5 (54:28):
At BU which right down the street from me.
Speaker 7 (54:31):
Much better, too much better at school.
Speaker 5 (54:33):
Sucks to be you. You've heard it.
Speaker 3 (54:35):
He doesn't actually like be you.
Speaker 7 (54:38):
Kind of fact. But the Red Sox lost the world
serious to the mess. Oh yeah, we had like a
team free for all in the baseball diamond. So you
have to clean up that good. No, I just had
to go home and feel shame.
Speaker 3 (54:50):
That was the pain. I moved along here with our
sixpect though. The Lions at the Packers. Good match up
here this afternoon. I guess I'm up first, and man,
I just some change in Detroit. I'm gonna go with
green Bay at home. You got twenty Europe.
Speaker 5 (55:08):
I'm gonna take green Bay. Green Bay as well at
their home at he said, game.
Speaker 7 (55:11):
Yeah, great matchup early.
Speaker 6 (55:13):
This is where my focus will be during the post
game show, when I'm watching the red Zone and the
Giant TV right in front of.
Speaker 5 (55:19):
Me with all the commercials.
Speaker 6 (55:21):
I'm gonna take Detroit. I feel like they're healthy and
I think they they've done a great job. I think
Dan Campbell has done a great job. Of convincing the
players they have something to prove despite being a fifteen
to two team. Losing the coordinator's a lot of this.
There's a lot of doubt. Can Dan Campbell do this
without Aaron Glenn and h and Ben Johnson. I think
(55:43):
they get off to a good start on the.
Speaker 3 (55:44):
Road Detroit for Paul. Next up Texans at the ROMs,
and they're, you know, trying to hold Matthew Stafford together
anyway possible.
Speaker 7 (55:54):
Toward all in duct Tapa.
Speaker 3 (55:55):
Yeah, I actually you're you're back up twenty Yeah.
Speaker 5 (55:58):
I think I'm just gonna go with the Rams. It
looks like I'm picking all the home No, I didn't
take the Judts. Actually yeah, I'm taking the home teams.
Speaker 6 (56:04):
It looks like Los Angeles Rams got I'm gonna take
the Rams as well.
Speaker 7 (56:09):
You know, I am.
Speaker 6 (56:12):
Saft spot for Matthew Stafford, so as long as his
back is, you gonna send him a one piece. I
take the Rams.
Speaker 3 (56:19):
I'm gonna buck the trend here. I'm gonna take Houston.
Speaker 7 (56:22):
I do like c. J. Stroud too. That's a good
point that you make.
Speaker 3 (56:24):
I do like a couple of state receivers they picked up.
We'll see how it comes together for them. Uh, Sunday
Night Football one. I'm sure we're all gonna enjoy watching
when we get home here. After the Patriots put up
a victory, Ravens it Bills Baltimore by one point five.
Speaker 5 (56:39):
I stuck with this one already.
Speaker 6 (56:42):
Is gonna be good, Marvers, you're I'm going to take Baltimore.
I think they're the regular season team.
Speaker 7 (56:51):
A little bit ahead of a battle.
Speaker 6 (56:52):
Yeah, And I mean the Ravens are I feel the
best team in football on paper. This will be a
good game, good matchup. These two teams probably will see
each other again in January.
Speaker 7 (57:02):
But I'll take the Ravens.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
I guess I'm up. I can't quit the Bills. I
don't know. I think they I love Josh Allen. Yeah, Josh,
you know they took a little little reset last year
and I feel like it did him good. And I
think that they're gonna they're gonna start to go to
a new level. According to Fred Window not closing for Buffalo.
Speaker 5 (57:23):
Oh, I don't think it's closing either. I think this
is going to be a really close game and a
really good one. But I'm not betting against Lamar Jackson.
I'm gonna take Baltimore as well.
Speaker 3 (57:30):
I get it, I get it. I just have to
all right, and last stuff, we have our game right here,
the Raiders at the Patriots. Patriots are two and a
half point.
Speaker 7 (57:40):
Who did you take.
Speaker 3 (57:43):
Baltimore?
Speaker 7 (57:43):
Baltimore? Okay, yep, sorry, go ahead, Mike.
Speaker 3 (57:45):
And I guess Paul, you're back up then, for they's
by two and a half.
Speaker 6 (57:50):
I am going to take the Patriots to win this game. Yeah,
it is very controversial for me. It's very controversial, especially
early in the season. I think that the energy in
the building today is going to be a big advantage.
I'm not a huge believer in the whole West coast
(58:10):
coming East coast thing. I think that sort of really
lessens in recent years. I think Pete Carroll in particular,
as Vinnie mentioned, has been really really good in those spots.
But I think the Patriots have just enough to get by.
This game could go either way. I'm gonna go twenty
three seventeen. Maybe a late turnover by the Raiders is
the difference.
Speaker 3 (58:30):
I like it. I'm in as similar territory as Paul
as I'll take a low twenties to high teen, say
twenty three eighteen, same kind of game. I just I
want to see this Patriots defense for some turnovers, be aggressive.
I think it might be a little bit feaster famine.
They might make a big play, they might give up
a big play, but I think ultimately they're going to
put enough together to pull this one out. But just
so many unknowns. It could really the game could be
(58:52):
given anyway, and I wouldn't be too surprised, but I
think the Patriots have enough here at home. Like Poly said,
so I'm gonna go with the Pats.
Speaker 5 (58:58):
Well, I'm definitely not a party pooper, and also, why
would I bet against the Pats at this point? I
am going with the Pats as well. I think they
got it. This is the moment to trend upwards.
Speaker 3 (59:09):
There you go, she's it all together, and I guess
we got cut off because Vinnie came in. But you know, yeah,
why don't we give Fannie the key here for her
first day and the whole week?
Speaker 7 (59:21):
I'm not including I had double X. I thought I
should have gotten it, but that's okay.
Speaker 3 (59:30):
Well, we'll see, we'll see afterwards. Be sure to tune
in right after the game ends. We'll be back here
with the Patriots postgame show break it all down for
you guys, look forward to hearing for you. Otherwise, enjoy it.
Week one, Let's go, Let's go.
