We are beginning a new sermon series on 1 Corinthians to coincide with our school year theme of "Choosing Unity". You and I both know how polarized our world is right now and how much more fractured it can become in an election season. We have lost the ability to really listen to one another. We take sides. We take positions and, let's be honest, sometimes we forget why. Now more than ever the Church has a responsibility to be bridge builders and peacemakers in our community.
We all have seen or maybe even been a part of those projects that start, but never seem to get finished. It's kind of like chores around the house...they never seem to get fully completed. Have you ever noticed that is how our lives are? Or better yet, if you have ever raised children, you understand the feeling of never being able to complete the job (whatever that means). Thats because we/people are always "in progress".
This week, Pastor Karla relates this idea to the "temple of God". But it's not a physical structure. It is not even "me". It is us!! We are always in progress as we choose to build unity together on this earth, and it is a legacy that we will leave for future generations to continue the building.
