These next few weeks we are going to be unpacking parts of the book of Deuteronomy. This book is part of the Pentateuch (the first five books of the bible) or what our Jewish brothers and sisters call the Torah. Deuteronomy is not a book that advances the Scriptures much in any way historically or otherwise. It is really just a repeat, a summary of the previous four books, but being a summary does not mean it does not have value. In fact, this book contains Moses’ last words to his people as their leader before the mantle of leadership is passed onto Joshua. These are the last words Moses speaks before the Israelites finally enter the Promised Land.
Rev. Karla Shaw opens the study of the final book of the Pentateuch, explaining how Moses encourages the people to look forward to the promises of the Lord. God’s faithfulness is what helps them to trust an unknown future. Might the same be true for us?
