Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to Psychology in Seattle. I'm your host,
Kirk Honda, licensed therapist. It's just me today. I thought
that I would talk with you about countertransference. What is it?
What is countertransference? What are the different points of view?
What's the history of the construct, what's the history of
the construct of countertransference? Okay, so there's really no way

(00:23):
for me to summarize the history and philosophy of countertransference
in this podcast. The history of the concept is intertwined
with the history of the field, which is intertwined with
the culture of the various times and places in which
it was discussed. So the topic is too broad to
encapsulate even remotely in this podcast, so please keep that

(00:44):
in mind. I'll also keep in mind that if another
scholar were to give a talk on counter transference, you
would probably hear some similar things, and you would probably
hear some very different things, some very different opinions than mine.
Therapy and its constructs like countertransference are very squishy topics

(01:05):
that have to be described with our very imprecise language,
and the experience of countertransference is probably different for everybody
to some extent, and that's why I love psychodynamic theory
because it's so broad and varied and it's open to
these individual philosophies. All right, So anyway, let's let's get
on with the topic. As with almost everything in my field,

(01:28):
all roads lead back to Freud. Hey, deserving listeners, this
is an old episode that we have re released as
