Speaker 1 (00:00):
Psychology in so Burto.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Lately, I've been doing some episodes on Schema Therapy that
are for patrons only, and I did a long, four
and a half hour deep dive into schema therapy a
couple of weeks ago, a few weeks ago, and I
never really knew the model of schema therapy. It comes
with it a pretty robust theory that was developed in
(00:28):
the eighties and nineties and two thousands, so it's a
fairly contemporary theory compared to other theories that we have
available to us. And I'm really starting to like it
because it fits with the way I think about humans
and about personality. But it provides this very specific language
and a system of walking ourselves or our clients or
(00:52):
other people through to really flesh out you know, there's
certain things we talk about on this podcast where it's
it's like, Okay, I have an issue with X, or
I went through this with my dad, and therefore I
have an issue like this, and it's kind of an
amorphous understanding. There's an amorphous description with schema therapy. They
(01:14):
they provide this very specific language to the schemas, and
they also provide this very specific system of understanding the
full breadth of that issue. It's like it's a description
of an issue.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
I guess.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
I guess it'd be like saying something, you know, like
something in the physical world. It'd be like, Okay, that's
a car that went down the road, whereas it's like, okay,
how about let's open the hood.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
You know, there's four wheels.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
There's an engine, there's the you know, the manifold, the pistons,
the break pat you know, like you start seeing the
components of the issue through schema therapy, and I'm actually
starting to change the theory to fit the way that
I see the world and make it more specific to me,
because some of it feels a little weird.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
So I've already changed a little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
And as I interview you and we look at your
schemas and your coping strategies and your maladaptive issues, assuming
there are any, we can further illuminate this model, but
also change it to fit what I think would be
just more resonant with the way we think that you
(02:25):
and I.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
What do you say? I love it sounds intriguing.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
So in this episode, it's kind of take a while,
and we have a few hours here available to us.
I'm going to be interviewing you about your childhood, how
it relates to your personality, how it relates to your
coping strategies over the years that have not worked out
for you, and also how you can get your needs
(02:48):
met in a functional way that scheme of therapy. The
model helps to illuminate and people out there listening, as
you've listened to other episodes about scheme therapy that I've done.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
I hope that because as I go, because I do
with a full.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Assessment and I ask them a bunch of questions, and
you could answer the questions at home on your own
to kind of figure out how you would fit into
this model as well and maybe benefit in that way.
So what do you say, Berta, Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Let's do it.
