(02:09):
about you, man, Anything happeningin the new year? Feeling good?
Yeah? It all's good. Nothing, no big changes, no big surprises.
Are you a resolution man? No? No, nothing. When the
New year hit, you're like, you know what, this year, I'm
gonna try to do this nothing,no, no desire, nothing. I'm

(02:29):
living my life the way I wantto live it. And that's it.
There's nothing new that You're like,I'm gonna I'm trying and jump out of
an airplane this year. I'm tryinga new beer. Okay, there you
go. Slow down, Bro,that's a big effect there. No,
that never got into resolutions and doingall that. I'm with you. Yeah,

(02:51):
I guess I'm a half a resolutionguy. By half means like I'm
not gonna half assid which if I'mmade a resolution, I would probably half
asked. Probably very good. Theidea like man, brand new year.
What can I try? What canI do different? But as always,
you know, working out things likethat. But yeah, this year,
I'm like no, I'm like I'mfeeling good, loving life, you know,

(03:15):
loving, loving my wife. Herewe go. Yeah, I got
projects that started in twenty eighteen.Still working on a couple of things for
Paranormal Punchers right. Hopefully, hopefullyI could also get on issue two of
the comic with my buddy Mars.I've had a chance to talk to him
in a while. Maybe that's myresolution, to make sure the comic gets

(03:39):
done, the comic gets done, but also slow down and make a simple
phone call to my friends, seehow he's doing. Yeah, I'll try
that. What about you listen youdo anything like that. I don't do
um Like, I don't sit downand like make resolutions. But I feel
like we've discussed possibly just reducing theamount that we drink and maybe working out

(04:01):
more so kind of like I don'tknow how well as we s I know
it's it's sad. That's a goodidea, that's a great idea. Uh,
this is not a resolution, butI really want to go visit my
friends um out in Santa Fe noEl Paso help yeah, Apasso and then

(04:28):
pass right, sir, how badis it? Listen? Uh so?
And then also up, um,like three hours away. It's like Roswell,
So I would like to go visitthat. Yeah, that's on our
list. Yeah, going to Roswellthis year, going to new places.
Well, until I look up airlinetickets and hotel price, I'm like,

(04:48):
we ain't going anywhere. Yeah. You know, every time I hear the
word resolution, I'm like, resolute, resolute, resolute, what I just
keep thinking of Nicholas Cage The ResoluteNo boy, Yeah, it's such a

(05:10):
great movie. But thank you forindulging with me on that one. But
you can't help it, right,Yeah yeah Nick cagey um. Yeah.
I also like to give a shoutout to our best friend Aaron. It's
her birthday, Happy birthday, birthday. By time this errors, it won't
be her birthday, but it's okay, Yeah we remember. Yeah I could

(05:32):
have. I could have facebooked ahappy birthday to Aaron, but I thought
I'm gonna podcast a happy birthday.Everybody does a Facebook Happy birthday, but
how many people get pod podcast happybirthday? Dang? Right? Now,

(05:54):
keeping with our theme, for twentyand eighteen. We were picking based off
the movie we talked about we wouldpick a one degree of And if you
guys remember the last movie was Ican't remember it so long ago of his
Armageddon, Yes, I remember,but I was a teasing I drove because

(06:19):
Bruce Willis was in Armageddon, Yes, and I think we put in a
hat and we somehow somehow I can't, I can't. Yeah. Remember we
called Benny's dad, Oh yeah, and he helped us pick well up to
two thousand and nineteen, where weforget everything we did in two thousand and
eighteen. That's a that's the resoluteto remember what we did. Last episode.

(06:42):
God, I just want to watchNational Treasure right now. I do
have, uh, you know, some listener feedback. When I say listener
feedback directly at a local brewery, somebody came out to me that listens to
the show and they were like, they will remain anonymous. They asked to
be referred to as anonymous, butthey were like, uh fucking Jeff was

(07:04):
right. Uh yeah, that wasn'ta general statement about everything. Bruce Willis
in Armageddon in the first act wastrying to pull off some type of Southern
draw. Yes where you you saidthat, and I think we maybe we

(07:26):
Yeah, Anonymous said yes, hewas right, and then Anonymous also said,
you guys are fucking liars. Yousaid you were gonna do a holiday
thing with Diehard and you never did. I'm like, oh sorry, uh
yeah, sorry, I wanted todo that. Who anonymous is Anonymous?
If you're listening, here's a shoutout to you. Yeah, we will

(07:46):
try to follow through. Keep inmind, like we drink and don't know
things this show. Yeah, thisis why we have to plan the one
off, just so we can rememberwhat movie to do. Thank god,
we know we're doing Unbreakable. Yeah. So I have no other twenty nineteen

(08:09):
updates. Okay, I have nothingnew to talk, No I do.
I wanted to bring this up becauseI found it fascinating. I found it
awesome, and I was like throwinglike massive fist pumps in the air for
CSI around the world. So inuh, we live in Pennsylvania and there

(08:31):
was this case twenty six years later, this dude UH played guilty for the
murder of this teacher like twenty sixyears rape and murder twenty six years ago.
He unsolved crime for twenty six yearsThis dude was like some DJA.

(08:52):
He played at clubs down there, even DJ's like high schools. Yeah whatever,
But I guess one of his familymembers went on to one of these
websites where you give some DNA samplesto check your your your lineage, yes
whatever it's called it. That DNAhit the CSI database and it was a

(09:13):
match for the DNA they collected fromthis murder twenty six years ago. Ship
where is this? That plaid isour backyard? I don't remember seeing this
in the news or anything. Really. Yeah, so then the uh,
the detectives went out, did youknow they you know, they followed this

(09:35):
guy. They pulled off some samplesfrom like glasses he was using, some
some bubblegums, some shit like that, and they got a match. They
got this guy and he admitted tobeing guilty because they had him dead to
rights twenty six years later. Wow, because of technology, that sample paid
off and this this motherfucker uh isgoing to pay good for that awful crime.

(10:01):
I'm I just like to say, hey, I'm glad that we have
this technology and these people out theretrying to get these soobs. So that's
that I just found that. Ijust found that excellent that the family of
that victim could finally get uh somekind of piece of something. Would you

(10:22):
be call a closure? We Yeah, No, they got the guy.
They got the guy. Yeah, yeah, huh that's and you know,
since this is a podcast, we'retalking about movies. Literally, that's like
a movie. Yeah, you wouldsee that in a like in some type
of of a thriller plot. No, actually, that's like a bad made

(10:43):
for TV we're talking about. Itcould be like a great movie, like,
but this is real life. Andthey did it. They got this
son of a bitch. Yeah, and he's gonna pay for his crime.
Cool horrific crimes that he did.Right now, you said it just made
me popping. It popped my mindwhen you said about Law and Order.
Have you guys seen the new littlemini series called Happy No on Sci Fi?

(11:07):
Yes, I watched like episode oneor two with Christopher Peter Maloney Milani
Yeah, Melania, yeah, fromPeter Malone. Malone, you were so
close. No, it's like Maloneym L M E L. I'm gonna
anyway. He's from a Law andOrder Special Victims unit. Yeah, wasn't

(11:31):
he also in the thing set inSeattle. Um? Uh? Was it
just called killer? Not killer? It was? Was it really great?
Netflix? Was Netflix? Og?Or? He was in Oz. He
was also in that Umlis show,um the Camper one where he was like
a cook. Oh yoh yeah, hot hot American summer. Oh okay,

(11:56):
yeah, he was hilarious in that. But was the thin he was a
serial killer? No, he wasa detective, but he also was the
serial killer Dan and it ters. No, I'm mixing up actors right now.
Okay, what was that TV showset in Seattle with the redhead detective

(12:18):
that was a killing? The killerkilling? Yeah, that's not him,
that's not him. But either way, the killing. The first season was
fantastic. The second season wasn't notso much, but it was good.
It wasn't as good as a firstall right, but watch Happy Okay with
him two episodes. It gets somuch better. It really Oh it's hilarious.

(12:43):
I could we I watched it overthe holiday break and I could sit
and watch it again. It's reallyreally good. It's funny. Man.
What else did you watch over theholiday break? Uh? Nothing new.
I just catching up all on abunch of old watch a lot of Marvel
movies. Um, Actually the worstpart is just trying to find something good

(13:05):
to watch now, yeah, becausethere's there's nothing on TV and there's no
new movies out right now. Wegot hooked on a Good Life, No
good placed your clothes. Now,you guys are just on the first season
we watch Netflix. Season one andtwo are on Netflix. Oh okay,

(13:26):
so season three is out now,um, and we're like dying to watch
it. But I feel like atthis point, at this point, it's
past the time when like they onlygive you like five episodes or whatever.
Yeah, so we're gonna miss likethe first several now, but we'll get

(13:48):
you hooked up. It was oneof those things like I felt like we
burnt through all the series to watchbecause we watched the marvelous Miss Nasal,
which I loved. Ye, wewatched some other series and like there's nothing
I just want to watch. Well, you know, a series, a
light comedy type series, so wecould sit back, have a beer and
just kind of relax a little. And I wouldn't call that a light comedy.

(14:09):
It's hilarious, well lighthearted, okay, yeah, lighthearted. I didn't
want a deep thinker. I waslike, I just need something we could
pop a beer and and laugh andlike you know, and and cuddle and
have it. And I love KristenBell, I love her. I was
surprised at how much I loved it. I know. Oh, don't get
me wrong, I love Kristen Belltoo, but I was surprised at how

(14:31):
funny. Oh yeah, and Iwas like, human, I wish I
could write this kind of comedy. It's it's excellent. I highly recommended.
It's on Netflix and the first two. Yeah, it has a dark uh
underlining there you know they're dead, don't break, don't well well, I

(14:54):
mean even if you look up theplot, you know it right away.
If you probably there's probably a otherfor it. Yeah, that's the whole.
It's pretty obvious. I think thewriting is super funny. Yeah,
they're nail it ted dancing. He'sthat's been in since Cheers. The actor,

(15:16):
I think he's hilarious and he's sodeadpan. Yeah uh you know.
I like Hilipinia Puppers and the bestthing. I mean, he's just so
I love his character. And Iwas calling some things like I'm not gonna
get spoilers if you never watched something, But there's times where you're like,
I'm starting to wonder if any ofthese people are good, right, okay,

(15:39):
And that that also made the showfun because you're watching this go on
and then when you get that littlebit of a reveal, you're like,
ah, I called it, yeah, or nope, I didn't call it.
And Kristen Bell is pulling in likeshe's got one half of the series.
She's trying to be a sweetheart andbe awesome, but when they do
flash back, she's a raging bitch. Oh yeah, she's bad. Oh

(16:03):
my god. But it's also likereally funny us. Yeah, like some
of the stuff she's saying. She'slike, someone's like, excuse me,
man, would you like to talkabout the environment? She's like, would
you like to eat my fart? There's just like little things like that.
I'm like, I know, maybeit's not smart humor, but it's freaking
hole. Yeah. Well, Imean just when they're in the afterlife they

(16:27):
can't swear. It's like son ofa Beach yeah yeah, well just fork?
Yeah wait why the fork? Can'tI swear? Just stuff like that.
It's good they're here in the goodplace, right. I love it.
I loved it. Um we didwatch a movie that I actually kind

(16:47):
of enjoyed called hell Fest. Didyou see this one, Jeff? You
told me about it. I didn'tsee it. So it's like Tony Todd's
in it, Yes he is,but it's like this really crazy Uh I
guess you caught like an amusement parkbut all horror decked out hard like that

(17:10):
kind that would give you, likeyou alicious, especially extreme anxiety just to
walk through this park because everybody isthere's everybody's in costume the act. You
know, I'm pretty sure I hadanxiety watching the but obviously somebody in the
park is there to rereak havoc andmurder. I enjoyed. Now this was

(17:32):
hell Fest health Fest. What wasthe other one that was one similar with
yea, It was because I thoughtwe'd actually on Fest something like that where
they all go into the this gianthorror festival. This is like the same
thing they go this horror festival.Yeah, but everybody in the horror festival

(17:52):
that works there is out to killall the attendance rights. That one was
not very so I thought we wereactually going to watch that one, and
I was like, I'm pretty surewe're watched I know, that's when Mark
first said about it. It's likehell Fest. Didn't we just see this
and it sucked? But yeah Ilike this. Yeah, even the endings

(18:15):
just kind of like all right, the ending was not what I expected.
What I'm sure okay, yeah,Tony Todd, let's see just came out.
I'm looking at the IMDb right now. Um yeah, so the synopsis
on Holloway Night, three young womenin their respective boyfriends head to hell Fest
a Gooley's traveling carnival, which Iwill call bullshit on right away. Some

(18:38):
of the sets, God, there'sno way this is a traveling carnival.
There's no way. Some of thesets were so elaborate. They couldnot tear
these down and travel, Like therewas that whole contract they had, like
all this decking and steps. I'mlike this, this is nut. Well
maybe he could break down and puton the back of a flap bread,
well, a flat bread, aflat bridge. They can cook it up.

(19:02):
Yeah, well maybe it's there fora week or so. Either way,
though, I had a fun timewatching it. Oh yeah yeah,
that's um that and probably well wewatched just a bunch of stuff we've already
owed and things like that. Speakingof things that we've already seen and own.

(19:22):
Unbreakable. That was the pick. But it's a timely pick because M
Knight Shamalan is back. Maybe heuh he kind of hit it out the
park was Split. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's interesting. Uh for
all you listeners that know that Jeffhates everything, he just said, M

(19:45):
Knight hit it out of the park, Split, Split, Split. I
didn't love Split. It was avery good movie. I didn't love it,
okay, but yeah, I thoroughlyenjoyed it. I thought it was
great. Crap, what what's themain actor? James macaboy. Yes,
he yeah. He did a fantasticjob with the multiple personalities. Dude,

(20:07):
incredible. It's almost like he tookit so he's like, I can do
whatever. Yeah kind of, Ican do twenty five different personalities. Oh
man, this is gonna be somuch fun. Yeah, because he just
looked like he had a lot offun. I'm sure he did. I
would love to have been on theset as he's, you know, kind

(20:30):
of gearing up for each character foreach different shots. That was like the
little kid, you know, theRed Sox, you like the hot dogs?
Yeah, I know. It washilarious. I wonder if he's like
a method actor, if he's likethe other type. Oh maybe yet,
because I'm just wondering, like howhe would rub himself up to do these

(20:51):
different character rub himself up rev Maybehe did, however, u himself himself
up together in the character too.No, I'm just like I'm wondering,
like how he got himself to thatpoint where he could have these different characters.
Like usually these actors, they havelike one character that they have to

(21:15):
concentrate on, and he had twentyfive different characters, So like, that's
insane. And they were pretty obviouslylike different personalities. They weren't like,
well that one's so similar to theother ones you can almost call it the
same something like that. But no, these were very split yeah personalities.

(21:37):
Now, um what I what Ireally enjoyed about that though, is which
I still say, I'm like,I didn't understand one hundred percent, didn't
see it coming that he he heis kind of like the Hawk essentially,
so he has these multiple personalities, but one personality he gets really strong.

(22:00):
He facted like he has almost abody change, right, Yes, he
gets his muscles blow out, hisveins are everywhere, like he's been shooting
roids forever, and he could alsolike he's not cling to a wall,
but I'm using I'm assuming like bustinginto the things kind of like so strong
it's almost like an evil hawk.Yeah, but he doesn't get his big

(22:22):
or North Green right, But essentiallyone of his personalities is like a hawk,
Yeah, doctor jackal mister Hyde yeahyeah, right, five others right
there, which which obviously the incredibleHawk is like doctor Jack. Yeah.
I mean that's all that's where itcame from. But but the Hawk's the
best, strongest there is, umwell, which I really thought was interesting.

(22:44):
And then at the end of thatmovie, because I have no I
really don't have any complaints about splitit, uh and who complains about watching
a kick ass movie that somebody workedreally hard on? But you know what
I mean, Uh, to know, right at the end, when they
did a little thing they were likea diner, Yeah, David Dunn was
there. Yep. It's like,oh, there it comes. And then

(23:04):
everybody's like it's part of the universenow, which I figured Unbreakable was a
one off back in the day whenit came out. Well, M Knight
actually said this was going to bethe first of a trilogy. Im Knight
said a lot of shit. Yeahhe did. But when you watch it,

(23:26):
especially when it came out, watchingit back in the day, it
literally had a beginning, in themiddle, and end. There was no
did you didn't more? It wasa standalone movie. It didn't have to
have a sequel, it didn't needto be in a universe. I thought,
I was like, Wow, whata cool movie. And it was
a comic book movie. And Iwas over the moon when they the comics

(23:48):
were in and even that the villain, uh he had a studio where he
was selling comic book part I'm like, that's fucking rad. Where's one.
Never in a million years did Iwould I ever believe when he made that
first movie that it was supposed tobe a trilogy? Did you? I
mean, if you watched that movie. We we just watched it, right,

(24:11):
Do you think he had a trueintention is to make it a trilogy
back or did he get such Imean praise, He's like, fuck,
I should just make some more thathe originally said even back then that it
was supposed to be part of thetrilogy. Now, if I just watched
it and said, oh, it'sanother m night movie. But it was
only a second one. Oh,he had the success and then it came

(24:37):
out with Unbreakable. Was it?Is that the right order? I think?
So? I thought Signs was outbefore Unbreakable. I thought Unbreakable a
second. We should probably look thatup. We probably could googles. I
don't have my phone. I gotit, I got you got it.
Totally should have had the sound effectsfrom Batman. Oh my god, that's

(25:03):
I gotta I gotta put that soundeffectively. You need sound effect. Bored,
Holy crap, that have been hilarious. No, or next time you
just you just do the sound yeah, or you just d the day in.
Oh, but we already spoilt itby talking about it. Cut it
all out. So hold on.As we're talking here, I'm trying to

(25:26):
scroll, like I thought it's borderYeah, I thought it was the third
because then after this came the happeningwith with Marky Mark what No, No,

(25:49):
So we have so well, youknow, and actually he's done movies
before this. And I'm not goingto click on the links yet, the
shorter but we have in here's whatI'm looking at on I AMDB. They're
accurate. This is what I'm justgoing by a year released sixth cents.
Yeah, nineteen ninety nine. Okay, so it was Unbreakable two thousand Yeah,
Signs Signs two thousand and two.Oh all right, of course.

(26:14):
Then we got the Village, highlydebated village, and then it starts to
it starts to go downhill. Butagain, the visit I really enjoyed.
Yeah, the visit was good.Yeah, oh yeah, I forgot about
that. That was going to getinto an m Night debate right now.
But I like Lady in the Water. I thought there was something cool about

(26:37):
Oh, Jeff's out. Yeah,he's done. He just quit the podcast.
When we get a chance to argueabout that, I'll argue about that.
But he made it. It waslike that was worse than the happening.
But he it was a story hemade up to tell his kids,
and they eventually made into a movie. Like I liked that idea. I

(26:59):
did from his own brain. Butit doesn't make a boot. It doesn't
make it a good comedy movie. He made it out of his own brain.
Okay, that's fine. I thinkthat's wicked cool. Yeah, it
is cool, but it doesn't makeit a good movie. Now, I
liked the Village more than I likedand the village was bad in the water,
yeah, and I saw both inthe theater and I like, I

(27:22):
mean, I would rather sit andwatch the Happening because I can laugh at
it than Lady in the Water andfall asleep. I love Paul Giamani.
He's great. Yeah, that moviewas horrible. Yeah, it was just
happen. You know, I gottaget a rewatch. But I like,
I liked it. He made amovie off his own originality and maybe no,

(27:47):
that's great, it's perfect. ButI mean he's a book written about
the making of that movie and howam Night just went off his rocker?
Yeah he did. He made iton all right, all right, but
either way, so, uh,if we go by it, I am

(28:07):
d Unbreakable was his second Okay.I mean he's done stuff before the Sixth
Sense, but that's what we allknew about him, right, that was
his breakout. So after the SixthSense, this was was his next movie.
And pretty you know, sixth Senses. They're saying nineteen ninety nine to
come out with this movie in twothousand, like it seems like yeah,

(28:30):
So he went a lot of pressureto jump in and try to make another
huge hit. But I'm here totell you, folks, if you haven't
watched a movie that came out innineteen ninety or in two thousand, this
is a big hit. Yeah,it's my opinion. It wasn't a very
big hit as far as uh,I don't think it did as well.
No, it didn't do very goodin theaters and the I know the critical

(28:52):
reviews are. Okay, it's gettinglike a seven out of ten. Okay,
right, well, I was gonnasay it's time to get into wrong,

(29:12):
wrong, wrong song. That's Unbreakablefrom the That's the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
I did that for Jeff because hewouldn't know what we're talking about.
Yeah, I was. You're gonnatalk about m Night Shalman's Unbreakable starring Bruce

(29:33):
You're in the emergency room in thePhiladelphia City Hospital. Now ask you some
questions. Where are you sitting onthe train against the window in the passenger
car. Yes, you're sure youwere in the passenger car. Yeah,

(30:06):
this trailer is about as boring asBruce Willis is actings this movie. Yeah,
pretty much. That'd be one ofmy biggest complaints. But we want
we're not gonna go there yet.Um, I'm breakable. M Night Shalamalan,
Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson. Yeah,
he did not say He did notsay m effort at all in this
movie. Robin Yeah, Robin Pen, Well, Robin Wright, she's right

(30:33):
now, but she's right. Yeah. I think she didn't she a worse
chompin. Yeah, well at thatpoint it wasn't she Robin right? Pen?
I don't know. I don't knowthe debates. Yeah, either way.
And you know we're talking about RobinWright was a pen not a pen
but a good actor actress. Yeah, you can't be you can everybody came

(31:00):
an actor. Okay, don't pcme, bro I think this movie is
outstanding. I have a lot Ihave some missues with it. But to
tell this story, at the time, it came out before comic book movies,

(31:23):
before comedy book movies were huge. We're not talking about comic boo movies
that. Let's see, we hadthat Dolph Lungren was the Punisher. Oh
yeah, so we had comic bookmovies that came out before this. But
I don't think anybody went into thisunderstanding it was really a superhero movie,

(31:44):
right, yeah, it is.It's an origin story on David Dunn.
And I guess he's called the Guardian? Okay, Yeah, where'd you hear
that? Didn't they talk about itin the movie though? No, no,
you know that it's his code name. He's the Guardien Broka. Did

(32:04):
just make that shit up? Yeah? I probably No, No, I
heard that somewhere. Yeh, damn. We should do more research for this
show. I know. I waslike, I did a little. I
did a little research today and mKnight never officially gave him like a comic
book hero name. Okay, soanything like the Guardian or whatever. It

(32:25):
was probably more fans. I wondergiving him that name. Well, and
the one that's coming up Glass,I wonder if that's going to be his
it might be well, because JamesMcAboy, he's like, it's the base.
But you can't, you know,he's the Beast, mister Glass,
Bruce will he will have a name. Probably he will have I'm sure he

(32:46):
will. But when the but whenit came out, he didn't have a
comic book name. No, no, you know what I mean. But
it was but it was at originstory of a comic of a hero,
a superhero um, you know,so this movie starts out slow, really

(33:09):
slow. We learned a little bitabout mister Glass. Uh and how I
mean is this a real thing,a real disease that you know? Yea?
When this when when he was born, like even coming out of the
birth canal, his bones were breaking, his bones were so brittle. Uh
So when as growing up he couldn'treally play in the schoolyard with the kids.

(33:30):
He was just he would his boneswould break right constantly. Like it
just sounds like an awful, awfulYeah, I forget thing to suffer through
what they said the name of thedisease was in the movie. But it
is a real disease, but it'sfar. I don't know, like the
severity he has, if that's real, because I mean, if you think

(33:55):
about it, if he fell down, he breaks a bone, right,
So how would a infant. Haveyou ever a toddler when they're learning to
walk? Well, imagine have youyou've you've been everybody gets sick, Yeah
except David Dunn. No, hedid once, but but only because of

(34:17):
water. Right is kryptonite. Butyou know you you had a cold and
sometimes you cough hard. So misterGlass, if he gets a cold.
He literally could cost so hard hewould break ribs. Yeah, people actually
break ribs that aren't mister glass.Yes, some people that have just have
coughing fish that break a rib.Yeah, so I imagine was his bones

(34:39):
were glass? Yeah, so Ihave to imagine the fair is no,
I mean not to happen as thebad guy. You don't know it's the
bad guy, right, you alreadyspoiled if look, if anybody had seen
this movie, well, yeah, come on, it's nineteen years old.
Now we can talk about what everyone. So again, that's one of those

(35:02):
movies. You know, m Knightsalways got these movies. Well he had
a few movies where you're watching youdon't know the twist yet. But I
thought it was really interesting that thathis bones were so brittle. Then we
then we but we have David Dunn, who kind of the opposite. Yeah,

(35:22):
but we don't know that right awaybecause he's, uh, he's on
a train going back to Philadelphia. He starts hitting on this girl on the
train and he starts ask her,so where are you staying. She's like,
oh, I'm sorry, I'm married. It's comfortable. In fact,
all Bruce Willis is acting this movieis kind of uncomfortable. He just seems

(35:44):
like a very uncomfortable guy. I'mjust gonna call it to Bruce Willis didn't
give a shit about this movie reallybecause the movie is so good like when
he filmed it, because his actingin it is really not very good.
He's got the longest pauses yeah,at which I'm I'll bet m Night probably

(36:05):
encouraged, which I just saw hejust watched. Uh screen junkies. Uh
what do they call that? Whenthey do the trailers, honest trailers,
honest trailers. They made fun ofhow long he takes pauses between what he's
saying. Yep, because it wasit was bad. It was I don't

(36:28):
know if he didn't give a ship, but was that direction I don't know.
It was like I need you tobe a very I don't see.
I don't think he gave a shipbecause his acting in that movie I liked
Unbreakable. The acting was horrendous.Bruce Willis that was not pulling his A
game for this or even his Bgame. Yeah, he was pretty you

(36:51):
know, I was. I thinkI'd said that to you, Unlicia.
I said it in my head, like he is so brooding in this movie.
Yeah that it literally could be aDC movie. Yeah almost. Yeah,
like he like, you are broodingenough to be Batman. In fact,
the way they did Superman, you'rebrooding enough to be Superman. Yeah,
like you could have pulled that off. Yeah. Yeah, you know

(37:13):
what, You're in the wrong movie, pal, You need to be in
the DC universe where they just neversmile. They never smiled over here.
Everything's gritty. It's all gritty.I'm depressed. Yeah, it just I
just think it. He wasn't actingit, because what was that? What
m knight wanted? What? Idon't know? Because even Kevin Smith's story

(37:35):
on Yeah, that movie he madewith Bruce Willis and uh, I can't
remember the comedian's name, Tracy Morten. Um. Sorry, I got excited
guys because I remember something. Yeahit was the movie was supposed to be
originally called a Couple of Dicks outcop out. Oh never saw it,

(37:57):
but you don't need to. Yeahthat's why I never. Oh no,
I you know, I'm a KevinSmith fan, so I usually will watch
everything. But it was bad.It was a bad movie. Um,
and you could and most people saya lot of his movies are bad.
But I'm like, no, they'rethey're good and they're entertaining and they're made
for me either way. He hassuch an awful time working with Bruce Willis

(38:22):
on that movie that whenever I seesome movies like this where he's just kind
of not putting in one hundred percent, Yeah, like, is he being
a was he being a dick?Or was this the direction from the director?
Direction from the director? Bruce didHe's not that? Did he even

(38:44):
smile once? I don't think hedid. I don't think so. You
don't have to smile. Like,so, the setup is he's he's in
a marriage that looks like it's fallingapart. Yeah. Um, they're sleeping
in different rooms in the house. He's talking about moving to New York.
I don't know why we had tohave that because there wasn't a big payoff

(39:06):
to that, except except that onelittle line they talked about, like when
she asked him, like when didyou know it was over? When when
I had a nightmare and I didn'twake you up to tell you? Yeah,
because you know, he would tellme like it's okay, right,
it's over now. And then atthe end of the movie when he after
he did some shit he got hisvigor back, he got his boner back,

(39:30):
because yeah, I got you knowwhat, See, that's where like
was it was? It was hebeing not a bad actor. Was he
not putting one hundred percent in?Or like mister Glass told him, you
have this feeling that you're not doingone what you're supposed to do. So
when he finally date something with hispowers, he went home with a raging

(39:53):
heart on carried his wife upstairs andboned her. And then we didn't see
that. God, we got thewhole where he carried up the steps.
We got that. What else ishe He's not carried up the steps?
Right? But oh no, theylog and hard, I'll bet yeah,

(40:15):
and they talk really long and hardis the words you're trying to use.
Definitely, if I went if Ihad superpowers and I went out and I
just defeated a bad guy. WhenI got home, I'm probably gonna wanna
you know what I mean, Iprobably don't want to be like celebrate,
celebrate. I'm gonna use that wordbecause that's a kinder word. I'm gonna

(40:37):
want to celebrate, you know whatI mean? And if I pick you
up and then I carry you upto the bedroom to celebrate. I think
that's what he was doing right,But he didn't even look happy. No,
there was See that's my maybe acelebration face is not like my celebration
face, my celebration. But that'sthat's the problem. Throughout the whole movie,

(41:00):
there's like no emotion. It's justhe's stone. I will give you
that saying his lines, and thatis it. He's not acting sad,
particularly because his marriage is breaking up. He's not. It's like, holy
shit, I just bench pressed allthis weight fucking I gotta issue with that

(41:23):
scene, but we'll get to okay. And that's just my problem with his
performance through the whole movie. It'sjust there's zero emotion behind him. But
was that I still think was that? Was that? Uh supposed to be
that way? Because I can't imaginehe was not fulfilling his destiny like he
had. He is one in amillion where he has this ability that he

(41:46):
can I mean his if you've seenthe movie, and if you're listening,
I hope you did. Um.One of my favorite freaking scenes is when
mister Glass convinces him like like youyou you you are this um and it's
kind of like, well, thenext step is to go out there and
and then he just sits there, stone face. He goes into the train

(42:09):
station and they got that cool technobeat, which I love, and it
sets up a great tone. Andhe just starts bumping into people and he
sees all the shitty things that humanbeings are doing, and it's every almost
everybody's bumping into just garbage, likeyou know, like, uh, there

(42:30):
was one guy. You know,I guess you could let the woman go
because he bumped into one girl andshe's like robbing a jewelry store, but
you're kind of like, you know, not at gun heist, but distracting
the one guy. She takes apiece, and so he's like, all
right, not not that bad. Then he runs into like what I'm assuming

(42:51):
he's like a frat boy and threwa beer bottle on the back of uh
somebody's head and yelled a racial slurat him. And and the next flash
he gets he's raping some girl whatI could assume is like at a college
party, because yeah, and hedoesn't do anything about that guy because he
bumps into somebody that he has todecide that this is worse right, and

(43:15):
this I'm assuming he could feel likethis is happening now, now I can
stop this as some of those flasheslike well I can't go back in time
and stop what she did with Rob. Something part of me was like,
all right, you got that powerthat dude that uh rape, I'm assuming

(43:37):
rape because it was it was definitelygoing there. I'm like he could at
least lay beating down so severe hewill never really use his penis ever again.
But he bumps in that one guythat really creepy as hell. The
vision he got when he touched thatone guy where he just shows up some
guy's due doorms, like, Ilike your house, Yeah, can I

(44:00):
come in? Yeah? What wouldyou? I want to also ask you.
I know you're answer to be waydifferent because that guy was like what,
no, what is this? I'mlike, uh, when some creeper
like that is at your door talkinglike that, shut your door as fast
as you can. Don't talk tohim. Yeah, what would you do?

(44:21):
You know? My answer? Noyou shoot him? Yeah that's exactly
right. I just felt like theguy was being like even when there's like
sales guy's door, I kind ofopened the door a little bit and I
have the German Shepherd right here.I'm like, uh, yeah, it's
like a crack the door. It'slike, uh, can I help?
But he had he opened it thewhole way, like yeah, a little
screen door. He was his armswere down the side. He seemed very

(44:45):
fast, And I guess we wantto we want to live in a world
we could just answer the door likeoh absolutely, oh no, it's okay.
But then you watch the news,Yeah, and don't forget they this
is all happening in Philadelphia. Wouldhas a pretty he should open shooting.
Yeah. Sorry, that's a prettybad crime rate to begin with. But

(45:07):
despite what we feel like, wewould answer the door, which how how
do we know it never happened tous? Yeah? But he sees that
this guy that I feel like somehowhe knows that this is currently happening.
Yeah, right, and he couldstop it. And also his superpowers also
tells him what address, No,he followed him wait way to go Mark

(45:31):
and be remember yeah, because that'sthe best part of the movie pretty much.
He acknowledges I have powers, sohe's going to go out and do
it. He goes out to theh I'm assuming he's at Penn Station.
They're in Philly at the pen atthe train station. Great fucking scene.

(45:51):
Yeah, and he catches that guy'svibe whatever and he's the he's a custodian
trash guy. Yeah, and followshim and then he gives down. Yeah,
well we'll go backwards here quick, because because that's when mister Glass convinced
him, yeah to go. Iactually your before that the train station is

(46:15):
when he decided. I'm right,it was before that when they were at
Remember David is, no, no, no, no, that train station
is seeing where he stuck his armsout and started touching people. That was
after mister Glass convinced him, right. I think it was before that that
he got convinced when they were atbecause David Dunn is, he's a security

(46:37):
guard. I'm sorry when I sayconvinced, Like that's when he David Dunn
himself said, okay, okay, all right, because he was a security
guard at like a college football stadium. Yes, yeah, but he was
getting like he would bump, he'dbe able to tell who was the back.
Something's not right about this guy.He was able, and that's what
mister Guy's like, how do youknow? Yeah that that guy wasn't cool.

(47:00):
He just gets a vibe. Now, one of the guys was M
Knight Shamelon that he got a badvibe. Yeah, we were talking about
this when we watched it the othernight. Did m. Knight before he
came out of the bathroom, didhe put the drugs? David Dunn had
a vision that he might have hadsomething some drugs on him. But before
m Knight Shmealon left the bathroom, did he dump him in the trash can

(47:22):
that's why he couldn't find it onM. Knight Or did he just get
a misread? I can't remember.I think if I remember, I think
David bumped him before he went tobathroom. Yes, M Knight dumped him
in the trash so when he friskedhim on the way out, he was
pleased. He's already gone. Yeah, I think that's right. But one

(47:42):
of the things is, uh,he questions guy, he wouldn't let this
guy in, and he had avision of of like a forty five caliber
with a black can, and misterGlass like needed to know how did you
know that? Which was a verydisturbing scene when mister Glass followed this guy
to find out if David Dunn wasright, because you knew he was going

(48:07):
down. Well he didn't. Hedidn't have to, but I guess so
he So he's asking David, whydid you kick that guy out? And
he's like, I just had avision of this. Mister Glass needed to
know that actually, yeah, thatthe vision was really he yeah, saw
the right weapon. He chases thisguy into the subway, which I'm assuming

(48:28):
it was a subway, but theguy's way ahead of him, so mister
Glass has to try to go downthe steps. As soon as he starts
walking, I'm like, dude, dude, back off, even though I
know he's not a good guy,but at that time, you didn't know
he's a good guy. He neverwatched a movie. He starts going down
these steps and like, fuck, dude, stop and even gets to a
land He made it to the firstlanding safely. Yep. I'm like,

(48:52):
you should stop, but he keepsgoing and he breaks a shit ton of
bounds. But I guess the payoff was when he saw the gun.
He saw the gun and he washappy. I'm like, I would be
okay with not seeing the gun andnot he had like he was. I
forget what he all broke. Hislegs were shattered, like some other stuff.

(49:15):
He had so much metal poking outof his it was crazy. I
like that though, and I wasI was wondering as it was happening,
like, dude, just back off. You know you're brittle. But that
little slight smile he gave when hewas broken at the bottom of the stairway
and he saw the guy because theguy jumped over the turnstile and he saw

(49:37):
silver gun with a black handle. He had a slight smile like it was
worth breaking all my bones to knowthat David dunne right was right, because
that's the whole thing he's searching.Yeah, that was kind of the whole
premise of mister Glasses. I can'tremember. I thought was so great.

(49:59):
You know what, We're gonna takea break and come back and final thoughts
because I got to take a pinand get a fresh beer. Yep.
Hello, this is the Sasquatch akabig Foot, but you can just call
him the Frank. And when I'mnot stomping around the woods throwing rocks and
hunters, I like to listen tothe Paranormal Punchers podcast. That's right,

(50:19):
Paramormal Punchers. They talked about allthings paranormal and They're hiilarious. Go find
them on iTunes, Stitcher radio,Google Play, and Paranormal punchers dot com.
And we're back. Who glad wetook a pea break much better now.
So one thing we were discussing onthe break is how every actor in

(50:43):
this movie was bored as fuck.Yeah oh yeah A that that was not
every actor in their own right isamazing. It had to be direction.
It had to he wanted this tobe a very somber movie. It's possible,
but I I don't know, becauseLista and I were both saying the

(51:05):
first time I saw this movie,I hated it. I've always really I
was not a movie. Yeah,I was kind of bored with it,
and I didn't quite under like,I don't think I knew what this movie
was supposed to be about. SoI just was like, okay, yeah,
and then when I watched it again, I enjoyed it. I don't

(51:28):
know what it was there was lastweek after you were like, yeah,
not that impressed. No, Ienjoyed it. I didn't say it was
great. I mean, it's worthwhat it's a good it's while considering m

(51:49):
Knights, it's only really made threegood movies let's look at this. Uh
so this would be top five andobviously everybody in the world that seen this
can't agree this is a comic bookmovie, is it? Though mister Glass
was selling comic books, everything saidthat David Dunne was about a comic book.

(52:12):
When he knew that, David,he basically a yeah, it had
just like kryptonite water, you know, he literally was unbreakable, but he
had one flaw in his superpower. It was water. Well, all the
things to have to be your kryptonitewater, whatever, maybe it'll pay off

(52:36):
bigger and uh mister glass Glass Glass, mister Glass. Yeah, this case
is like when he fell into thepool and he was struggling, like,
yeah, we would all struggle inthat pool because that the pool, uh
cover was starting. One of thethings I in my research, some of

(53:00):
the speculation is that David has becausehe's unbreakable, he has a higher bone
and muscle mass, so he's heavier. So he that's why he's nod into
water. He can't swim, sowhen he fell into the pool, he
just he's just a log, nota low because he can't float a brick

(53:21):
a brick, Yeah, he justkind of sunk right down. So that's
one theory. Um again, noneof it, it's all theories U M.
Knight hasn't confirmed one way or theother. On let's talk about the
scene where you get the you know, David David Dunn himself and his son

(53:43):
gets a realization he's fucking strong, really strong. Now, this scene went
on for the weight scene. You'resaying, yeah, putting the weights on.
Ye, he lets the way andhe looks a sound like how much
on? He said, he wasscolding his son, Yeah, but but
you just lifted it, bro,Like back off. He sat up and

(54:07):
it's like, how much weight didyou put on? No? And I
feel like his son just kept gettingfarther and farther away from what he made
him go away. I'm like, what's gonna happen? And you make your
son go across the room like they'renot gonna like, you're not gonna lift
it this weight and it's gonna exploderight and weight, it's gonna check your
kid in the face work. Buthe made his kid in the corner.

(54:29):
Yeah. Um. I thought itwas a really cool scene because he's discovering.
He's discovering essentially, But it goeson too much. Yeah, and
then they did think it was fun. I did think it was fun.
I just didn't when I first sawthe movie. Uh, by the time
they put the pink cans on,I was like, all right, I

(54:52):
get it. Yeah he's strong, but rewatch it. The other night,
I'm like, I think I kindof like that. I like that.
Well. The deleted that they ducttape paint cans, like, what do
we got? Yeah? What elsecan you add? This is like what
are what are they a couple ofgallon drums? What are they weighing in?
When you put them on the endof your bars? By the paint

(55:13):
can paint cans, it's their onegallon cans. Gallon is here comes some
math everybody. They're pretty they thinkit's like it's five six pounds, five
pounds something like that for a gallon. So if you could already push,

(55:34):
yeah, But by the time heput up all every all his weight was
like three hundo. Yeah, hewas bench pressing, which is like pretty
wicked. That's pretty good. Butthe one deleted the paint cans, like
at that point I got it.Yeah, one deleted scene. Right after
that happens, they put some kittycats on the end. You see David
Dunne at the college. He worksout and he goes into the training room

(55:59):
and there's like, I guess thewhole football team or something's there, and
he just kind of nonsolantly walks aroundover the weight and you see him just
add and puts a shitload of weightonto a bar, gets down, struggles
to get it up. You know, he brings it down to his chest,

(56:20):
goes up, down, up andputs it down and he's kind of
like a look of shock on hisface because he's sitting there counting and he
benched five and then he sits upand everyone in the locker rooms just staring.
That would have been a good scene. Yeah, that should have been
in not a deleted You talk aboutfilmmaker for a second. I really did

(56:45):
enjoy even though I thought it wasvery the boring is the wrong word,
am Night. I'm not saying itwas boring. It was this. This
was a revelation for the for thecharacter David. But when he would just
just the camera work was really cool. When he would push it up,

(57:07):
the camera was coming up and downwith and I just really liked that along
with the musical score. Yeah,it was hitting a lot of points where
for me, yeah, man,we'll see those are the parts that's where
you can kind of see him nightshine, because he's he is a great
filmmaker. He's had some great writers, he's had his story, he's had

(57:30):
his flamps, but he's had somemajor, major hits and you can see
that here. But still, again, my biggest complaint is the acting in
general is just bad. Yeah, nobody had seemed everybody was boring. Yeah
yeah, even the kid. Thekid, well, the whole scene with

(57:52):
the gun, that kid needed astern talking to an ass kicking. Yeah.
There you go, Like, justbecause I could bench press four hundo,
doesn't mean I could stop a bullet? What is wrong with you?
Right? What interesting though? Itwas like it's not loaded. You don't
even know where I keep them?Yeah, you keep them hearing anything.

(58:14):
And I'm like, oh, yeah, he was Apparently you're not hiding your
bullets, yeah, or teaching yourkid well enough to you know if you
do you think having them being astrange uh married couple. Uh so they
are they already they weren't commuting Katymuch, they weren't talking much, they

(58:34):
were on the outs. Was thatdid that add to the story or just
take away from I don't know,it was filler. That was actually the
worst part of the movie for mewas that whole relationship. I was like,
I could care less about. Yeah, I think it was just philler.
I mean it added nothing. Iguess the one payoff was to find

(58:58):
out that he was never he wasHe was never injured. He faked an
injury, yeah for her. Yeah, so he is never fulfilling his destiny,
which mister Glass was trying to explainto him. You you wake up
sad because you know you're meant forsomething bigger, right, But with that

(59:22):
his big his bigger destiny would havebeen to be a football player. No,
but he faked an injury and thenquit his football career all for his
wife. So he was always goingto have some issues with his wife because
he knew deep downstairs he did thisfor her. And then she even explained

(59:45):
to mister Glass that, oh,correct me if I'm wrong, but almost
came across like, well, whatwas he gonna do with a football career.
He needed to get you know,a job, support family whatever.
She like, she was never behindright him and his dreams all right?
So right, so he was miserablewrong or it was miserable because you're you're

(01:00:08):
not wrong. Well, if youknow somewhere deep downsides you got an ability,
you're you're never gonna be happy ifyou settle. Okay, but even
if you're not happy, it's stillthere's no emotion. But nobody just boring.
This is a big reveal in themovie. After he let's get before

(01:00:34):
I talk about that slow emoting thatBruce Willis put on Let's get to after
he does, uh, he sensesthat bad guy when he's at the training
station. He follows that bad guy. He saves the kids. Unfortunately couldn't
get there to save mom and dad, well the wife, mostly because the

(01:00:57):
dad I think was pretty much yemurder yeah right away, yeah broke Yeah,
he saw that in his vision, the dad was already murdered. He
was like down in the basement, crumpled at the stairs around So the guy,
so he unties the mom and ofcourse he falls over because yeah,
she's dead, she's dead. Buthe the bad guy sneaks up knocks him

(01:01:20):
out the window in the pool.Yep. When the kids get him out
of the pool, he goes upand does doesn't look like a great stranglehold.
If you watch a lot of mma, Uh, he does a really
bad chokehold. Good now, Butbeing as strong as he is with these
abilities, he again the fight scenelike I would have liked that fight scene

(01:01:45):
to be a little bit more.Yeah, because all it was David on
the guy's back. He was throwinghim around the room. Yeah, but
punching and giving him kidney punches thewhole time. And that was it.
I would have loved seeing it.Really outstanding fight sequence. It didn't even
have to be a great fight sequence, just better than that. I mean,

(01:02:07):
if David is this strong, he'sstill discovering, right, But okay,
just because so you just got fight. He just got thrown into the
pool, almost died. You're thinking, all right, now, now what
now, I'm gonna go up andkick this guy's ass. So he jumps

(01:02:30):
on his back and puts him intocall and does nothing else. So he
didn't even throw a punch. Hetook the guys large. The bad guy
was crazy large and strength behind him. But David doesn't he I guess we

(01:02:52):
can't just all of a sudden transitioninto this awesome martial arts sequence. No,
but it could have been just alove in dirty brawl. Yeah,
but he was not trained for that. But he can still throw punches,
which he didn't do. But see, okay, think about that. He
knows now how starring he is.He also knows he maybe he should learn

(01:03:14):
how to fight. Will that ositionglass? Will he be much better?
Hero? He's been laying low allthese years though, But now you don't
know that because in the diner he'sgot the gray beard going on. Yeah
he's older. Uh well his fightingHas he done anything with his fighting style?

(01:03:35):
Yeah that's possible. It depends wherem Knight's gonna take. Oh my
god. And I want to know, like more background, like has he
been saving anybody or beating up anybad guys all these years? I will
sitting in his house with his Iwill bet money off. I will bet
money. I got twenty bucks inmy wallet right now. I'll bet you
there will be a montage scene ofpaper can lose time, newspaper clippings he's

(01:04:01):
saving, or his kids saving newspapers. Yep, there's gonna be a scene
of a bunch of newspaper clippings thathis kids saved of all the stuff he
did, because he's the kids init right. Yeah, dude, that's
I think you're on point. Ye. His kid's gonna have a scrap book.
Yeah, and that's what's gonna There'sgonna be a show in the movie,

(01:04:23):
in my opinion, is the breakfastscene after he uh took down the
bad guy, because it's just look, no, I kind of like that
though, he's just like listen withoutactually saying it happen. It did take

(01:04:44):
Look, he's slowly. When Isay slowly, I'm talking like people could
travel back in time as long asit took him to push that paper forward,
still pushing it over. Yeah, and then he just looks his kid
little little finger on the mouth.See again, this goes back like why
is this kid only pouring like onethird of a glass of orange juice?

(01:05:06):
And then picked the orange juice cardup and walk it as Yeah, It's
just the whole scene was awkward.I know. That's when he's letting his
kid know, like, you're right, you see this is but it just
goes back to my whole there's noemotion, no acting in this because what
would have been better at that sceneif he would have pushed the newspaper over

(01:05:28):
the kid looked at him and hesaid, and they just had a real
cool little smirk on his face.So the kids, I did that,
kids like, oh shit, I'mrobbing. He starts crying. Remember I
know. Now, I did likethis a lot. Again, I'm not
I'm not papuan on the movie. At the end of the day. I

(01:05:51):
love this movie. But the endof the movie, now I know m
Night was trying to be this guythat was was having these twists. This
was a twist. I'm sure wecould all see it coming a little bit.
Um No, but this was hisleast twisted movie. Yeah. No,

(01:06:12):
so it's least twisted movie with theleast twist at the end. I'd
say the sixth sense he crushed.Uh the twist. No, the least
twist there's oh so you knew thewhole time. No, but it wasn't
like sense like, it wasn't likeany of the other movies that have those
huge twists at the hand. Thishad kind of the least amount of time.

(01:06:35):
I get you. I get youbecause I liked when David let him
know, and you know, Glasswas up to speed on the thing that
he did to that bad guy,and he's like and he said to him,
like this is the part we shakehands, and then David touched him
and got the flash of like,oh my god, he's been bombing.

(01:06:58):
Yeah, he is terror airplane. He's yeah he oh, Blish has something
to say. Go No, Iwas gonna say, I've seen the buzzer.
Yeah, I know. You guyswere just going non stop. Um.
So I've seen this movie a coupleof times and we just watched it,
um Monday night, and I Iliterally forgot about that ending. So

(01:07:20):
it was a shock to me forlike the third time. I was like,
oh my god, because it's it'slike he's absolutely awful. It's been
he's a fucking terrorist. Um.And David done that. There was that
moment when oh, he was talkingto his mom before he went back,

(01:07:41):
when he showed up, and he'slike, oh uh, Elijah said,
you guys are becoming friends. Ohright, yeah, like I think we
are, yeah, and then hewalks back. They shake hands and it
was like a holy f moment.I said, I'm been swearing the whole
time. I that was cool.I like that because David was David was

(01:08:03):
almost thankful that he could talk toyou, but also thankful that you brought
this out. Of me, andI didn't believe it until you showed me
right. And that once David Dunnwas finally maybe happy because he knows,
he knows who he's supposed to be, and he said, this is the

(01:08:26):
part where we're supposed to shake, and then he realized, like, oh
my god, this guy's awful theguy that I thought, and that but
that whole thing about being an archbillain arch nemesis, like he's not just
a bad guy. This is theI love. I said, like,
I'm the complete opposite of you.We were supposed to be enemies, right.

(01:08:49):
I was like, this fucking movieis great, this is excellent.
It's I don't I wish the actingwould have been a little more cheery and
less more marvel less DC, butdamn, I was like, this was
a this is a great movie. To come up with that concept. M

(01:09:13):
knight. The writing, yeah,I don't know that that's one for me.
That's a hell of a script,hell of a script, great concept,
poorly executed. I would say,Bruce Willis would kick your ass.
He might say that's the direction hewas given. But there he's dull hero
he is. I get it,but but but so was him. But

(01:09:35):
so was Samuel L. Jackson. There's a reason sam Jackson was not.
Sam Jackson was great, but hewouldn't. I caught him Sam, like
we're best bros. Samuel L.Jackson was great. He was good in
it. But again, he wasthe one that actually had emotion. True,
you're right, but he didn't.Well, maybe it's because he wasn't

(01:09:56):
the right character. When I thinkof Samuel ja the right character. When
I think to Samuel L. Jackson, I think of a bad motherfucker exactly.
That's exactly the wall. It's hisbad motherfucker. And that's not who
Samuel Jackson played in this movie. He was. It was It was very
it was very calculate. But no, but see that it was very I

(01:10:20):
thought it was different from his normalroles. Yeah, but you can only
you can't always be the same characteryou were in Paul Fishing this one.
But that's what he's great, that'swhat he is now. He he had
a very weird look he had.Yeah, but also the way it was

(01:10:42):
cut and curved over and all thepurple, which they're really using. One
thing I love about m Night andit's kind of really be evident in glass
Um the way they light a scene, the way they the costume. I
love that each character had this colorright, and and Sam Samuel Jackson,

(01:11:04):
purple was the theme. It wasalways there, even when they opened,
even when you opened that package asa kid. Yeah, his mom has
wrapped it in purple. I don'tknow if that's m night or if that's
the set the art director, butit's no. I'd almost guarantee that they

(01:11:25):
thought through, like you know, purple is going to be the thing.
Yeah? And what colors for theother ones? Well, the Guardian,
which I'm saying he's called the Guardian, yeah, uh, David Dunn green,
green, poncho. Yeah, Ithink the Beast split he was red,

(01:11:47):
is yellow. Yeah. And Ilove that. I love when they're
they're lighting things and each color isthe costume. You might not know,
no do it right away, butsee that's what I mean. That's when
like, that's that's a smart, well thought out, uh film. Whether

(01:12:09):
we notice it or not, it'sthere. Well that's what those are characteristics
of a good director, good right, which is that's what I think he
is. Yeah. So what okayhe did uh the last airbander you know
what you fuck that up? Yeah, but he didn't cartoon was great.

(01:12:30):
Maybe I didn't think it was thatbad. I didn't follow the cartoons,
so you don't know what I mean. Well, I don't know. I
watched it. See I watched thatcartoon with my kid when he was little
growing up. That was our youknow, we watched. So when you
watch a live action version, you'relike, oh, they never watched,
right cartoon? They did? You? Yeah? But did he realize what

(01:12:54):
makes this so popular? I don'tknow. No, Yeah, I know
we directed, but I don't knowthat. You don't. No, I
have never and I am shocked. But I've never watched The After Earth.
Yeah me either. I got throughabout the first twenty minutes of it and
turned it off. It was sobad. And I love Will Smith.

(01:13:14):
This was not Will Smith. IfI could be Will Smith from Okay,
so this one would be Will Smithfrom Bad Boys. Imagine Will Smith in
Unbreakable. You mean everything, withabsolutely no emotion. How could Will how
could he ever be? So maybeyou know what, maybe that's animated,
So maybe that the whole thing thatis and who yeah, right, so

(01:13:39):
maybe it is. Oh my god, if I could that Unbreakable, but
have Will Smith? But Will Smithas his bad Boys character. So he
maybe, no, you can't becausethen you're that's what we say, let's
Samuel L. Jackson in it frompulp fiction. Well then a lot of

(01:14:01):
people are getting shot, Yeah forsure, so you know, so maybe
it was directed them honestly, thatmonotone, no emotions. Yeah, but
sam Yeah for me, uh,Samuel Jackson as character and his acting,
his betrayal of the character. Ireally like Bruce Willis, David Dunn,

(01:14:26):
his wife Robin, right when hiskids. Everything to happened within that family,
it was very Samuel Jackson is theone. He was literally he was
the one that kept it going.I thought his character was great. I
didn't think he was born at all. He might have been not stoic in
his betrayal, but he was definitelylike he was. He had a conviction

(01:14:49):
of if I am this way, there's somebody out there this His conviction made
his character even at the in thecomic book store, at the and when
he was all battered and a littlebit a bit defeated because what he thought
he finally thought he found him,but David was giving him some bullshit.

(01:15:09):
So he was sitting there with hisbusted leg in the com book store and
just just defeated and just steve whenthat guy, even when even the guy
tried to whee him out, hejust kept turning his chair in another rack,
like man, you're really messing upthe whole But when he saw that

(01:15:30):
one comic, he was like,oh, how much? How much for
this comic? Yeah? And thenand seen. But it was just kind
of like if I was to givea an oscar, if I was only
given oscars for just this movie,I would give it to sam Sam like

(01:15:51):
we're best budding Samuel L. Jackson, because he was the one who carried
the story throughout the whole way.He was the one that I gave a
shit about, and then he's turnedout to be the bad guy. That's
true, but it still doesn't meanhis performances was that performance was great?
What are you talking about? Idon't um not understanding? Yeah, where

(01:16:15):
you're coming from? Bro? Hefor me, he's the one who carried
the story from beginning to end, right, he did in a bad movie.
It's not a but what are youtalking about? Bad movie? It's
not a good movie. No,it's not. It's boring. It's very

(01:16:41):
slow. When this came out.M Knight was mister. Like I was
saying before, let's put a twistin the movie. There was a twist.
It wasn't something huge though, Okay, so it was though like storytelling
wise it was. I disagree,Lysia. Yes, would you like to

(01:17:06):
speak? I would? I've beentrying. Um No. So when I
first saw this movie, I didnot like it at all. I did
not. Well, Hey, Mark, okay, But the second time I
saw it was with you and youloved this movie, and I feel like

(01:17:26):
what I was able to get fromthis movie was maybe more of appreciation for
what I saw. There are problemswith this film, but I feel like
it's a really good, entertaining movieif you get past certain things. Well
that's like I said before, itwas well written but poorly executed. Okay,

(01:17:54):
disagree with that last staiment. Itis not poorly executed. Yes,
I feel like it's still a goodI would like to know your definition of
executed properly versus executed poorly, becauseit is one hundred and forty six minutes
of a very story. Give meone character aside from Samuel Jackson that I

(01:18:18):
care about. If you can dothat, then I would call it better
executed, because I don't care aboutDavid Dunn. He was just monotone,
their stone face the whole time. His kid was annoying as shit, and

(01:18:41):
his wife could have been written outand it wouldn't change the movie at all.
Right, you know that's a goodpoint. We didn't even he could
have been like just divorced. Yeah, he could have been a single dad.
He couldn't note, he could havebeen a complete bachelor, and it
wouldn't have changed the story at all. Look, I'm not trying to say
we're gonna rewrite. I think thestory is great. Uh well, you

(01:19:05):
wanted my definition, and I justknow I'm just gonna tell you. I'm
gonna wrap this up by saying Ithink it's a good movie. Yes,
was Bruce Willis a little dead pant, a little boring. Yeah, not
his best performance. If in myentire life I could write a movie that
good, I would be happy.It's a good movie. It's a superhero

(01:19:29):
movie. It's not the one youexpect. Not in the age of Marvel,
true, well, well pre Marvel. It wouldn't hold up in the
day, in in our today's versionsof comic movies. That's why. I'm
really excited for Glass to see KenM knight change. Yeah, that's good

(01:19:50):
to be. There's a discussion foranother episode after we see it continuing.
Yeah. Yeah, Now he's makingrelevant and he's got an evil villain's which
essentially is the the super smart villain. He's not strong, he can't kick
your ass, but he can comeup with diabolical schemes because he's wicked smart.

(01:20:15):
Now we have the Beast who isyour wicked enemy, who is almost
as strong as you, if notstronger, but you can't if you hold
on. And then you got thehero who is strong. He wants to
do right. He's got you know, of course he's got his own kryptonite,
but he's also got certain flaws. But he's got to stand up.

(01:20:36):
He's got to stop these guys. Can m Knight take the characters he created
and make it entertaining where we're allI hope it's not that simple, no,
because you know, like the Beast, we don't know anything about the
Beast, We really don't know muchabout wasplug Boo. We don't know that

(01:21:00):
much about him. We we've heardsome things about how horrible the Beast is
and how strong and this and that. We don't know if he's smart,
We don't know if he's like theHulk strong or anything like that. So
well, yeah, but you know, you see where I'm going. So
so we don't know really too muchabout the beast Um as far as m

(01:21:26):
Knights or uh sorry, Samuel Jackson'scharacter in Glass, I think it feel
like manipulator he is. But whyso he's found his Okay, he found
David Dunn, and he's he's likethe real thing, you know, he's
he's Superman too, and and uhto Lex Luthor, Yeah, okay,

(01:21:51):
okay, So why is Glass continuingon the evil? Well, Glass has
been in a mental institution for thepast twenty years, so I'd be very
interesting to see how they do that. Yeah. According to the story at
Dane Unbreakable, he was committed toan insane asylum for the criminally insane.

(01:22:14):
So but but what I'm saying withthe Glasses, I just hope there's more
to it. There will be,I hope, So I feel. Look,
anybody can talk all the shit theywant about m Night Shamalan, including
me, and I've talked a lotof shit because I fucking hate Village.
No it's called the Village, right, That's fine. I don't have to

(01:22:35):
like every movie I watch, andI could still love the director and the
stuff that he's produced and written anddirected. This guy, I feel like
he loves the superhero genre. Heloves these comic books. He created something.
I think he I think he hasa really a concept. I think

(01:22:59):
he's gonna do it. I hope, because there's no skin off my back
if I don't like it. ButI think that he's no bullshit. He
likes comic book superheroes and he's tryingto create his own thing. Yea.
And that love will help him createa great script and direct a great,
great feature. I hope. Sobecause the the very you know, were

(01:23:23):
for once, very little trailers,and that's a good thing because I don't
know sometimes what's gonna happen here becauseyou just don't see much. So I
know, like you, we weretalking about trying to avoid trailers, but
sometimes I love trailers just to getexcited. Yeah, but but boy,

(01:23:45):
I got excited for the Last Jedior whatever it was called, employed them.
Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Ilike the trailer. That's that's all
you need to say. The trailerwas better than the movie. Yeah,
but everybody will have their own opinions. Yeah. My opinion is Unbreakable is
A. It's a it's a goodit's a good movie. It's a outstanding

(01:24:08):
concept. Yeah. I wish therewas a little bit more smiles less less
sad faces. But it's good,it's it's unique. Uh. I loved
it despite the things that we discussed, and I can't wait to see Glass.
Yeahsh uh. You know my thoughtson this. Um, I think

(01:24:32):
it's a good movie, but Idefinitely had problems with it the first time
I saw it. Um, it'sa it's it can be boring, but
I've appreciate it now in my olderage. That's it. That's it the
end. Yeah, I pretty muchhave to agree. It's the first time

(01:24:56):
I saw it, I didn't enjoyit, But when I watched it again,
I enjoyed it more. It's anokay movie. It's worth a watch.
Um, don't expect to be blownaway, but I would definitely if
you if you're planning on going andseeing Glass and you enjoyed Split, you

(01:25:17):
should definitely watch. If you haven'talready, definitely see this first true story.
So when is when is Glass coming? Out this month. Oh it
is. Yeah, Oh, Ididn't think it was still February something.
No, I'm pretty sure it's thismonth, so I'm kind of excited.

(01:25:41):
Okay, this might be a moviewe make go see in the theater.
Yeah, I'm not sure, butI'll let me know. We should just
go. Yeah, I think that'llbe fine. I'm uh, like I
said, I really like this one. What oh what's going on here?
Oh? No, I like thisfilm and I'm curious what he's going to
do with it. Yeah, themythos behind it. So, oh boy,

(01:26:06):
it was gonna call some me foran extra opinion. But oh,
it might not pay off. Ohokay, okay, depending on who you're
calling, it's already late. Wedon't need to be here for another hour.
Thanks for the call, but I'mnot here. I have a message
and I'll return your call. Bummerat the tone, please record your man

(01:26:30):
Press one for more options. What'sup, Dynamo, Hey buddy, we
were calling to say hi and uh. We were in the middle of a
discussion on Unbreakable and we thought youmight have an opinion because I know Jeff
hates everything. I thought you mighthave an opinion. I hope we're doing
well, my friend, and wegot to get you back on the show.

(01:26:54):
Anyway, I'll call you soon.We got coming book to right,
we got some other stuff to talkabout. Uh, take ye, and
I'll talk to you soon. HappyNew Year. Well that didn't pan out.
I don't know why I assumed hewould just answer the phone. But
it's all right, because I thoughtit'd be fun to get a quick hit

(01:27:15):
on somebody that was in in themiddle of discussion for the past hour.
Great, I'm giving a thumbs up. I think it's awesome and I'm excited
for mister Glass. Now is thissomething you think you're seeing the theater?
Just wait for a couple of monthstill comes out on I don't know,
we'll see. I'm thinking I mightwant to see this in the theater.
I mean, as much as Ienjoyed Split, maybe we can do like

(01:27:38):
a double. Yeah, well Isee this in the theater or not.
I don't know. It comes outlike this week or now? Can you
have like was it one movie amonth? Because Captain Marvel's coming out soon
in March? Right that for April? I remember Game of Thrones comes out

(01:28:01):
in April. I don't know,I'm definitely gonna see Game of Thrones.
Yes, no, I'm definitely gonnasee Captain Marvel in the theater. Yeah,
which in leads to I'm gonna seeEndgame Avengers End Game in theaters.
After that, I don't know whatI would see in theaters. Yeah.

(01:28:25):
Oh uh speak of things that Ididn't see in theaters. But it's on
Amazon Prime right now. You shouldcheck out. Have you heard of Mid
Nineties? No? Oh, that'sgood? Was it good? Written and
directed by a wait what's his name? He was a super Bad Jolah Hill.
Okay, go figure the guy thatwas in super Bad. His character

(01:28:46):
was drawing penises on everything. Yeah, yeah, I in the movie.
The movie is also uh in likefour to three okay, being very mid
nineties. Yeah, yes, Ireally enjoyed the movie. Okay, it's
speaking of Jonah Hill. Yeah.Um his the show that he's in right

(01:29:11):
now on Netflix maniac Um Real slowBurn? Is that the one with um
what's her name? The blond what'sher name? Yeah? You know what's
her name? Yeah? She's aum. So anyways, we watched the
first two episodes and it's like, what the fuck is going on? So

(01:29:33):
we'll see if it picks up atall. We watched part of the first
episode. Did feel like we didn'teven get that far. Yeah, it's
really weird TV. Yes, it'sweird, and I feel like we weren't
in the right head space for it. Really, let's not do this.
Um, So I don't know ifit's good or not. Let us know,

(01:29:54):
guys. Yeah, what I wasgoing with that, Jonah Hill Um,
it was like a like just asnapshot of this thirteen year old kid's
life where he's just trying to,like, I don't even say, find
himself. I'm usually I hate comingof age movies. Yeah, but that's
kind but it was like it,I guess it is a coming in a

(01:30:16):
coming of age movie. But hehooks up with some skate rats in La
Again, it's only like a momentin time. It's not really I don't
really think there's a beginning, amiddle, and the end. There.
There is, but it's not likeyou're gonna be satisfied, right because the
ending there it's just like, hey, I'm gonna show you two weeks to

(01:30:41):
name and hit by time. Yeah, but boy was I could I not
stop watching? Wow? All right, I thought I thought I thought it
was super interesting, uh writing why, Yeah, I recommended it simply because
hell, who knew kid from superBad? The kid he's a full grown

(01:31:02):
ass adult. Yeah. Really sorry, Jonah Hill, that sounded so stupid.
No, I I think I wason the verge of like, maybe
I want to take a nap,and I found away he turned that movie
on, rented it Amazon, proneand then boom was awake. I was

(01:31:23):
like, I can't stop watching.I'm so I need to know what's going
to happen to this little kid?Ye now and again even at the end,
you're like, oh, I guessI won't know everything because it was
only like two weeks of his life, right, But I still was like,
shit, that was fucking good.Huh, all right, cool,
I check it out. High Theyrecommended anything else going on? Apparently we'll

(01:31:45):
see him a glass and then argueabout it, yes, and I will
have him on on the next show, because definitely, yeah, clearly he
would be on this show. Anythingelse. No, I think we uh,
we've gotten all the things we've seenhave want to see. Ye And
uh, I think that's it allright, Jeff, Nope, that covers

(01:32:12):
it all right? Well, thiswas a great start to twenty nineteen.
What a movie. Who knew thatwe could argue so much over Bruce Willis
is acting. Wow, We shouldjust probably watch cop Out for the next
one, and we gonna argue moreuntil next time. Everybody, be safe,

(01:32:34):
spread love and we'll check you outnext time. Oh and I guess
as we say, keep on punching.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
