very interesting recipe to help others reachsuccess. And as you say on KAJ

profit from that. My position herein Brazil understanding the culture, understanding the
challenges and I want to call themdifficulties. But as we've seen and we've
talked about in other chats. Thereare cultural differences, there are characteristics that

influence in how we can have businessand make business, and we both agree
that businesses with people, and frommy perspective, here in Brazil, there's
a lot of opportunity. But howcan we reach that, How can we
both help Indian business persons reach thatand more specifically small business owners Because obviously

out in the world we're talking whenwe talk to large corporations, they have
global communication possibilities, have global networkingarrangements, they have offices everywhere. They
generally have local persons in the countrieswhere they operate, so it is easier.
They've done that over time. Butfor somebody starting up, and that's

here in Brazil or in India,wanting to start a business, wanting to
find a new market, it's achallenge. And with the ever growing influence
of technology, that is also anopportunity because for the small business owner,
what you bring, what I thinkI bring to a small business person is

a connection to the world and morespecifically connections in our case to Brazil.
But not only a connection. We'rebringing information and we're bringing knowledge, We're
bringing experience. Your masterclass series alwayshas masters to share their information which is

valid not only an India or Brazil'svalid everywhere. But what we will do
here on our chat is to focuson the validity of information for Brazil and
in the case of Indians, likeyour help to help Brazilians understand how to
enter the Indian market. So that'swhat we always like about here, absolutely,

absolutely, Tom and a lot ofpeople you want to be in a
place like Brazil, but obviously alot of business is already happening, but
a lot we can do. AndIndia is you can say, a lot
land of small businesses. It's ahuge number of small businesses. Government is

also putting a lot of emphasis throughstartups and and you know, in this
global world, why why to leaveout a place like Brazil which is coming
up so strongly in almost all spheresof businesses, including podcasting, you know,
podcasting and and and that's the big, big market now, so a

lot, so a lot of theworld's eyes is there on Brazil, and
Brazil is also now now trying tofind a better place for itself in the
globe wird world. So it's aplace to be and I'm sure are a
lot of businesses, Indian businesses,especially in this global world, online world,
they would be wanting to reach toBrazil. So if you'd like to

understand from you, you tom exactlyhow should or how can Indian businesses,
small businesses specially look at at theBrazil market, look at that big part
of the world, you know,and that is also it opens the whole
world in that part of the worldthrough Brazil. So how can Indian businesses,

(06:32):
small businesses especially explore and find moreopportunities in a place like Brazil and
that part of the Well, Iwant to start out by offering our audiences
and I hope you show those now. Two links all right. One is
to the Indian Brazil Chamber of Commercewhich is being showed there. So it's

Indian Brazil Chamber dot org org.That is a chamber here in Brazil.
They have three regional offices, onein below or Zaunchia, in the state
of Mina Jeda Ice, the otherin Rio de Janeiro in the state of
Rio de Jano, and a thirdin Saint Paulo the state of San Paulo.
Rio San Paolo and below Zaunchia arethree very expressive markets and different inputs

Sampaolo is a financial center Rio hadbeen. It's also a tourist center below
Za and Mina jeda Ice. Minajen Ice means general minds. The state
is a mining state, so it'sextractive. There's a lot of heavy industry.
There's a lot of business in generalmanufacturing type businesses, automotive in that

(07:46):
state. But this organization, thisChamber of Commerce, obviously attracts Brazilians to
that attracts Indians to this chamber andacts as a crossroad to present one to
the other. The major challenge incoming to Brazil for anybody is that most
Brazilians do not speak English. We'vementioned that before. It is a challenge.

(08:09):
So my first suggestion to people listeningcontact organizations like the India Brazil Chamber
dot org. Send them a message, see their site, find who some
of their members may be, andcreate a connection there first. All in

(08:30):
that, I'm sure they will help. They also have and from the Brazilian
side, they organize commercial visits toIndia, so they will take Brazilian business
persons and take them for business typetours or participations in conferences in India.

(08:52):
So through that connection you can alsosee who are the Brazilians coming and visiting
India and maybe from the Indian standpoint, depending on your regionality because also India's
is warge where do they go andmaybe meet up with them during these excursions,
So that would be the opportunity fora face to face contact for an

(09:16):
organization taking Brazilians to India. Theyalso do the reverse, so when Indians
come here, they are the conduitof helping those Indian business persons, startups,
large organizations find the path and theconnections here in Brazil. So that's
the first thing, find a connectionBrazilians in terms of networking, which I

(09:39):
feel I understand quite a bit.They're not as they're very friendly, but
relationship building for Brazilians is very important, but it's not immediate. Brazilians tend
to be shy when they meet anew person or a new circumstance, right,

(10:01):
so in that and they're not opento risks, so they're more focused
on the past, on the originof their company, of what they're doing.
I'm not saying they're not future oriented, but they're probably not as future
oriented as Indians are, so thatis a cultural difference. So they were
referred to their past successes and mayoverlook what are the future opportunities within their

(10:26):
own country, so to being tounderstand that's happening. When you try to
make a connection, first you needto be very patient. Brazilians may not
respond the first time, they maynot respond the second or third time.
So patients pays but to that connectionand I see you aj in India,

(10:52):
what's up is used quite a bitResilians. Most small businesses, and I'm
gonna say all most small businesses inBrazil have a what's up business account about
and that's how they communicate. That'show they communicate their business. That's how
they communicate with persons, with theirclients, that's the way they communicate.

(11:16):
The challenge becomes because also Brazilians liketo use what's up for verbal messages,
for audio messages and not necessarily text. But my suggestion to Indians is when
you do find and you can findthe what's up number and you connect,

(11:37):
just send text messages in English,try not to use and try not to
respond with an audio even if youget an audio response. Why is that
again, Brazilians don't speak English.It's difficult, but technology has helped us.

(11:58):
If we get a text message,we can take that text message and
we can translate that very easily.So I can have a page of English
here, right, and I canthen put that through a translator and they'll
be translated, so I can havethat in Portuguese and translating. So those
are the mechans. Those are thetools that are available today. They weren't

(12:20):
available in the past. So todayusing what's up email as well. I
don't want to say the email isnot used here, but for small and
medium sized businesses, it's more what'sup than it is email. But again,
always send a text message in English. YouTube you're you're a specialist in

(12:48):
YouTube, all right. If youhave a short YouTube about your business or
about yourself, send that as well, because we know that seeing is believing,
right AJ. So if you canshow and tell something about who you
are or what your company is,what your possible interests are in Brazil,

(13:15):
add that to your what's up messageand that will even help persons who are
receiving these messages. And maybe thatprobably that person receiving your message does not
speak English and their first reaction tendsto be fear what them? How can
I answer this? So the communicationbecomes a barrier for the Brazilians in eating

(13:43):
and matching opportunities. So if youunderstand that that's happening, it's not that
they don't like you, it's notthat they're not interested, but they're shy
in the sensence they don't speak English. And communication is the essence of all
business connections. That's the first connectionin any sense, that's with large,
medium, small companies. So that'sthat's not the challenges to your opportunity.

(14:09):
So if you have the patience togo through that cycle, as I mentioned,
it's easier for you to find asan Indian business person success in Brazil,
right right, Tom. And it'sa good insight that you have given
that you know that there are alsopeople in Brazil use a lot of WhatsApp

(14:31):
business. In India, a lotof businesses use WhatsApp business and I keep
on getting I myself have one accounton WhatsApp business, though I don't use
it much. But being an entrepreneur, obviously I will also have to start
looking at that. But I keepon getting a lot of business. The
messages from businesses including small businesses aswell as I must tell your biggest businesses,

(14:56):
all the big companies to you cansay top companies of the country and
who are global companies. They arealso using WhatsApp businesses for even critical work
in terms of banking, and alsothat we are getting. It's a good
insight that you know that people fromBrazil who can always translate, they use

(15:20):
audio messages. Here in India alsoa lot of people I've seen audio messages.
It takes away all the hassle forof your writing or tire typing something
on the phone, which can sometime. But I've seen a lot of
people using audio messages and I'm alsotempted to use now. But I use
less of WhatsApp in messaging because Igenerally have the type of work that I

(15:45):
do. It's was the email orall. But I am also because it
is very interactive. The person canlisten to you and nothing can get lost
in translation. You speak and youspeak in the language that the person.
Even in India, a lot ofpeople communicate in indeed, so in English
you may communicate differently, but inHindi, if you communicate it, you

(16:06):
will communicate in a different man ina much more manner that you are actually
wanting to communicate in. And Iguess that's a good insight that if we
write in text message in whatever life, then people in Brazil can certainly translate
it and actually get get the realunderstanding of what somebody else is telling.
In terms of being you know,Brazil people being a bit more towards you

(16:29):
know, taking their time to toresponse. That is okay. A lot
of people are have their own waysof looking. That's also a nice insight.
Indians are a more friendly, muchmore approachable. That's the general general
sense of the outside world is.And I guess that is where you know
that they can compliment each other whateveris left. But yes, in terms

(16:55):
of but you have there are manypeople even in India, they think their
own time. It is all aboutindividuals and I'm sure wherever the opportunity people
will certainly get that time. Theonly thing is in Brazil. If a
person from Brazil gets a message fromIndia, we got they got to be
also doing their research. That okay, they are also doing the right sort

(17:18):
of your own businesses understanding of becausehere lots of businesses are there. You
want to deal with the right kindof business. You do the right kind
of research because it is always betterto be sure about the companies you are
a lot of good companies are there, but there might be a few companies

(17:40):
which may not be asked for yourexpectations. So you don't want to start
off on the wrong mode, Sogo for that, that will say you.
But I guess that is where everywherein the world, everywhere in the
world, even in the even inthe US or any part of the world.
That's the that's the good part,you know, wetting and doing even
a job high you know, Okay, you may not be you may not

(18:02):
be hiding the person who has writtenexactly what they are so not to to
understand better, Tom, is thatWhat are the place that you talked about
the India Brazil Chamber of Commerce.Uh, what about the m CHAM Brazil
American Chamber of Coops. Well,the am CHAM, which is the Brazilian

(18:23):
the American Chamber of Commerce in Brazil. I've been part of that for many
years in campaigns. I'm a foundingmember of am CHAM here in Coompenis.
Previous to that, am CHAM usedto be in the capital cities of the
states, so they were they wouldhave a headquarter office in each one of

(18:44):
those states. Campionis was the firstcity, not capital of the state to
have a regional office that was morethan twenty years ago. And why even
those an American, why did Ijoin that organization? Because today there are
over five thousand companies in Brazil,these companies, because the membership is by

(19:06):
companies and there are over forty differentnationalities amongst those. So it's the American
Chamber, but it's not the AmericanChamber. It's a chamber of commerce which
started as the American Chamber. It'sbeen in Brazil for over a hundred years,
so it's not new. It's beenhere for years and it actually started

(19:26):
by American companies, so a hundredyears ago to understand how to develop the
Brazilian market, all to develop relationships. So what I say and what I've
learned something that Americans learned a hundredyears ago in doing business in Brazil,
and it's the same. It's relationships. It's finding the people. Brazilians like

(19:51):
to be introduced by another person thatthey already know, so they're sort of
aversive to people that they might havejust met but they don't know all right,
So if AJ would walk into aroom here, it's not that they
don't like AJ, but if AJis presented to them by another person that

(20:15):
they already know. That connection isalmost immediate, and that's Brazilian culture.
I've traveled throughout Brazil and as partof the American Chamber. The American Chamber
today has fifteen different locations in Brazil, and I've traveled and spoke at thirteen

(20:36):
of those connections throughout the years speakingabout networking, helping Brazilians understand the cultural
differences in networking from my perspective,which was an American perspective, and teaching
some of the things I just saidhere of communication, of being open to
meeting new people because what I say, what I have said, and we

(20:57):
know that I can only increase myrelationship my network through people that I don't
know. It's mathematical, so onenew person is one new connection. I
can reinforce my connections through people Ialready know. Like you, Aj,

(21:19):
we met years ago. Virtually wedon't know each other personally, but we've
developed not only a business relationship buta business trust. You've invited me to
do this what we're doing. Sothat's evolution that takes time and its success.

(21:41):
And as small business persons like weare, we also don't have organizations,
we don't have hundreds of employees andwe don't have more than twenty four
hours a day to dedicate to ourbusinesses. So back to the American Chamber
thousands. The majority of the company'spart of the American Chamber are small businesses

(22:04):
and small medium They maybe one ortwo, there'll be the organizations ten twenty
people. They're regionally located in thedifferent states. So that's one of the
points. And that link that weshowed the am Chamber Brazil, there's another
link that shows the Nasson's WUNI dietiesour offices. Clicking on that link will

(22:26):
open up a map will show thecities where it's located. Clicking on each
one of those cities, then you'llbe able to see an address, a
telephone number and initiate the content andthe same way that we just mentioned.
That could be by an email sayingwho you are, where you're from,
I'm an Indian business person. I'man Indian person looking for opportunities in your

(22:51):
city in Brazil. So if youdo address to the local offices in Brazil
is big, We've mentioned that before. It's a continental country, opportunities everywhere,
So in sending that type of email, waiting for that response, who
can respond again giving the opportunity forthe translations. That's a step and there

(23:14):
you'll be covering almost all of Brazil. So these fifteen state offices cover the
majority of the country, not onlyin size, but population, economic importance,
opportunities. And that's from A toZ, that's from everything. So
there are so no and try toconnect. What have we done. We've

(23:37):
connected and we can take a connection, so you can nurture a connection and
let it grow. So the biggestchallenge for any business person that again Indians
coming, try to get the initialconnection, build from that connection to other
because that initial connection will help youconnect others. So that's an important part

(24:00):
of connecting here. So the relationshipbuilding in Angel may be different. I
don't know. I can connect toyou, I connect to somebody and move
back and act different people. Idon't necessarily have to be connected through you.
I'm sure it will be a help. I'm sure that if I'm connected
with AJ and AJ recommends me tosomebody, it's a help, isn't it?

(24:25):
Absolutely absolutely, Tom, You areabsolutely right, even in India,
it's the same thing. It isanother matter that as an individual you may
build new connections, but nothing likelike you know, knowing somebody who knows
somebody else. This is how mostof the businesses that I've seen, you

(24:45):
know, traditional businesses. I comeprice out from a traditional business family,
though I'm myself meanted to journalism andand but what I've seen is that personally
those family connections into businesses, youget connected through one family member or somebody
who knows very well like that thatworks better. Secondly, if it's a

(25:07):
friend also, and you you wantto know somebody, you always look for
somebody who knows that person, right, not because not because there is anything
lacking, but it will immediately buildthat trust. Somebody is almost guaranteing that
relationship, guarantee the authenticity of theperson. And it works like that.

(25:29):
It is understood that if this personis saying and they ask also that you
can do and I take that response, it means they know both the sides
so well that they can vouch forthem. And that's the personal connections right
there. Is Earlier, you know, people used to consider that such references
are not a great thing, andthat those were some years some years before.

(25:52):
But now you see even in internationalorganizations, people want to get references
or look even in can you andnow they then give money more that you
will get that if you can forsomebody who know who you know, who
is a good, good person tobe hired earlier. We see that.

(26:14):
We see that on e commerce everyday. All right. We can go
into Amazon and want to buy anythingor any e commerce site and want to
buy anything. Uh, And whatI do and most people do for you,
you will see the product that youhope to buy. But then you
will immediately look at the reviews.You will see how many favorable reviews that

(26:37):
product has. If we're on GoogleMaps, we're looking for a restaurant,
we're looking for an event, wecan find the place. The second thing
we look to see the reviews isthe food, good? Is there parking?
Other things that generally in the pastwe wouldn't have thought. Right.
So again technology has brought to us, as small as we can be,

(27:03):
opportunities to find. But as asmall business person, if we don't use
this technology again, the secrets innetworking, I say, first is to
be found and then to be connected, all right, to be remembered,
to be found. In searching,you can remember you're searching for something and

(27:25):
we come up, but then clickingand having that person or that company react,
sending a WhatsApp message and somebody reacting, that's the essence of the connection.
So there are multiple ways today evena small business. And in Brazil
again there are more than five thousandmunicipalities. What's that. There are five

(27:47):
thousand communities. Most of them aresmall twenty thousand, fifty thousand people,
which in some places that's a lot, but we're comparing to sell Ball or
Rio or Biller's onto. Those arevery large cities. So sometimes it's better
to start with a small business.As a small business person, look for
another small business person in a differentarea than the major centers, as the

(28:11):
major centers competition from anybody. Thesmaller cities. Back to your point,
they are all relationship oriented because theywere small. Everybody knows everybody in the
village, of the city, thecommunity, everybody, most people do,
so you have a reference. Soif you can find a contact in a

(28:33):
smaller community, that's a great wayto start because then you can develop trust
with somebody small because you're small,and small businesses are small anywhere. They
again, they don't have what thesmall businesses in the smaller municipalities in Brazil
have they have more time. Theyhave more time, and in that sense

(28:56):
it's a slower lifestyle, it's morecontained, so they may have more time
to answer. They would be surprisedand I'm sure they will be pleasantly surprised
to have been found by an Indianbusiness person finding them in their smaller municipality.

(29:17):
They will immediately tell everybody in thecommunity. I have just received a
WhatsApp or an email or a YouTubevideo from a company in New Delhi,
by wherever asking about information of mycity municipality of what I do. Agriculture

(29:38):
in Brazil is very strong, andI'm want to say that from a business
sense because that has helped many ofthese smaller communities prosper. And that's prosper
not only from the sowing and harvestingof crops, but it has helped them

(30:00):
prosper from the startup starting up ofmany startups. So small municipalities which in
the past were very rural had verylittle content, are now becoming multiple opportunities
for service industries across the board.And we've mentioned service previously different from manufacturing.

(30:22):
Remember the service a service product.The service offering is immediate it's on
internet. You can start that relationshipright now. You don't have to build
a factory. If you want tobuild a factor, that's another story.
But starting up for small businesses inbras very quick, it's very cost effective.

(30:45):
So the time taken from Indians totry to find smaller Brazilian connections could
be very very profitable right right,And from India, I can tell you
there are so many opportunities for Brazilianbusinesses and small businesses, including is that

(31:07):
there's so many sectors they can lookat. For example, the agri business
in India. You know, Brazilhas that expertise in agriculture and they can
a lot of businesses, small businessescan find that that opportunity here in India
because you see, agriculture is aboutabout the interiors of the country, about

(31:30):
the about the heartland, the Hindiheartland, and people who are actually very
much part of the ground and farmers, small farmers, bigger farmers, and
they all need technology. A lotof companies from outside are in India into
into you know, into agridate businessesand and that area is growing and there

(31:51):
is more more and more need formore understanding about agriculture which can you know
that you can deny and Brazil companiescan explore that part in terms of in
terms of collaboration in crop cultivation,agro processing processing is something a big thing
that can come because a lot ofpeople want to have food processing that will

(32:14):
help them a lot a lot forthem. There is a lot of school
people always look out for right youknow, how they can use utilize their
produce through the use of technique technology. So that is one area Brazili companies
can certainly look at. They canreach out to existing agricultural firms and small

(32:36):
businesses. There you do need tohave a tire with a bigger company.
When smaller midsized farmers, smaller farmerswho have limited land holding, they can
also you can collaborate with the smallerfarmers. They're looking for technology, they're
looking for service and may be lookingfor drown suppliers they want to drown now
to come out their farm that maybespray locally or do this or other maccan

(33:01):
packaging equipment that we've seen using theprocessing part. Agriculture is more today from
just harvesting. It's from harvesting,packing, refrigeration, transportation. Much of
that is now being done very locallywhere it used to be taken to larger

(33:22):
distribution hubs. So the interior,as in India, the interior of Brazil
is growing very very quickly and witha lot of prosperity right and in fact,
one big area can be done technologythat is much more, you know,
looking towards organic farming. More andmore people are moving towards you know

(33:46):
products. So one is the existingtechnology one can collaborate in and and try
to look at it. But oneanother thing is the government is also putting
a lot of emphasis on this soilhelp right, look at the soil health
I guess the other day I lookedat some news report from outside, I
guess France or some other country,which was talking that almost forty percent of

(34:09):
the soil is not of great qualityfor producing that anything related to agriculture.
And if I've read it correctly,but Indian government has been working on the
soil health cards and that has beenI've not read anything off recently, but

(34:30):
but I'm sure I've not read it. A lot of thing is happening on
that ground soil health card. Whenyou can actually know what's the help of
the soil that you are working onyour farmland. So that is one area
a lot of technology can be shared, can be understood, can be looked
at. The better men part abroadly companies where they can share any technology

(34:53):
in this regard, or maybe Indiancompanies who have better understanding of this technology
or in the aspects of we wantthat technology, want to make that marriage
right because research you said, obviouslyBrazil's fertile, but it's not as fertile.

(35:13):
You need to understand the land that'sanywhere, and so there is so
much research happening, having happened inBrazil about crops, about land, about
sustainability, which is the word today. How can we make more better,
more economically without affecting environment. Sothe research and the research side, I'm

(35:39):
saying that back to our Indian friends, academics, students who may not today
be thinking about a business but wantto find information. Those channels that we
mentioned of the India Brazil Chamber,of the American Chamber, those are also
channels for students to find connections allright, to research and act as that

(36:07):
can do it. So that's wherethat can start, and that's how business
can flourish. It's from knowledge,it's from as you said, earning more,
learning more, right, right right, earning learning more and earning more
and impact other sectors. You knowthat there is a huge scope for small

(36:29):
businesses is the IT sector and softwareservices information technology because a lot of small
small companies are there. Small businessesare there who are who are creating software,
who are creating tools, and thatis where other small businesses from Brazil
they can also do that collaboration,take the technology or maybe if there is

(36:51):
anything else they can come collaborate andproduce something which might be required in their
work area, or maybe they canwalk to market to the world. So
that part, that part can beyou know, a huge Another area that
that is that can be collaborated isin automotive and auto components, especially auto
components you know, or there areso many Indian you know, auto ancillary

(37:15):
units here, a lot of people. That is one area Brazil companies can
learn and even collaborate and add toit if they have anything to the technology,
sharing can be done, components sharing, you know, sourcing and even
joint ventures can be looked at theseareas if they want to explode. So
most of the places you saw talkedabout India, Brazil Chamber of Commerce and

(37:39):
then also about m Chamber Brazil AmericanChamber of Commerce, fruit that they can
gather more information. And then thereare other places that you know they can
they can always uh find information fromIndian side, the Confederation of CII in

and the last tife I know aboutthem is there more than four hundred thousand
members. So four hundred thousand membersare there in such and growing. So
they will get a chance to youknow, understand that the chamber understand the
membership. Go through their website.You will get a lot of opportunities directly

through them. You can connect witha lot of small businesses. Rest you
have got the other forums you haveset their specific organizations. Also, I
want to make one more point thatI think is important and relevant. We
haven't mentioned and this and I agreewith you that they're you know, most
businesses are small. But one ofthe best points for any business anywhere starts

out with the search could be aGoogle search, but I don't. I
want to emphasize more the use ofLinkedIn, all right, and even here
in Brazil, well, I say, is everybody on LinkedIn? No?
But from an Indian standpoint, mysuggestion is, besides the sites that I

mentioned of the Indian Brazil Chamber ofCommerce or am CHAM, do a LinkedIn
search. First be on LinkedIn.They create your profile on LinkedIn, and
then search on LinkedIn for Brazilian notonly Brazilian companies or Brazilian persons in companies,
but associations. Because you mentioned theword associations and those business associations,

they're very common here also in Brazil, and they're associations that are sensitive to
a market, to a specificity,so you can find them, and many
of those you can find on LinkedIn. You can find groups. You can
find business groups or business groups orsharing information about business in Brazil, agriculture,

what are you doing business in mosSo's. There's a wealth of information
on LinkedIn trying to search and findconnections. This also goes back to the
point that I made, we needto connect. If Brazilians want to be
connected or need to be connected bysome intermediary, you may be able to

find those intermediaries on LinkedIn. Theycan help you make this connection and you
can be found. The other sideof the same thing is how can you
be found? So if you dosend your what's up to somebody, if
somebody sends me a what's up,probably the first thing I will do it

to see how that person shows upon LinkedIn? So is that person relative
to the business that they saying theyare? Do they exist? It could
be a Google search that I wouldmake to see do they exist? How
they exist? So from the socialmedia side, we also need to understand

that those are considerations are important andthat's going into any market. Show who
you are. Have that structure sowhen anybody does see your message, they
can easily see a relatant, arelative risk free connection. So that's the

of LinkedIn and YouTube, and weneed to show ourselves. So it's to
be found, but to be seenwhen you are found in a a more
