Speaker 2 (00:05):
We wouldn't know because we're so happy inside.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Some people.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
On some skis, but.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
We would rather sit on down and talk.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Some movies.
Speaker 4 (00:17):

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Make use my.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Indoors man. What is happening? I'm robling Christ and I'm
b here are the evid indoors me. Hello everyone, Hello,
Hello worr pal. I am doing pretty well, buddy. I'm
doing better than you are for our listeners, because let
(00:58):
me know that he had a pretty rough night last night.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
I did, I did.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
I drank so much and it was just I did
a lot of cocaine. Oh gosh, what they say, right,
that's what people do. That's not what you do. I
got a stomach bug or something, so I was I
was vomiting like a small child. No, I vomited a
small child. Sorry, you said that wrong, So you still
got it. You still got it. But I feel pretty
(01:25):
good right now. I had some caffeine, which I think
will help at least keep me awake till we're done
here today. So but if I make even less sense
than normal, uh you know why, or let's just blame
it on that. We'll blame it on that.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Well, you're a trooper. Thanks for doing this. We were
supposed to do it yesterday. I guess. I guess it's that.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Actually it probably worked out. I don't even know who knows,
who knows, but yeah, ultimately not a huge deal. But
it is so uh that does not happen to me
a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
You're kind of similar with that. Yeah, you know, just like, yeah,
that's not usually think. But man, she got me good
last night.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Oh and it's the worst feeling. I hate that so much.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
It's really rough, really rough.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
So but anyway, I am here, you're here, and I
am so excited to talk to you. How are you.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
I'm doing really well, man, we were right now. We
have our week off in between the Into the Deep
tour which finished, and then we're waiting to go on
to the Jukebox tour. And so today I was going
through all my songs, which there's a.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Lot of them, a lot of them where like there's
some variability, right depending on the city or the venue
or whatever.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Yeah, so I got to know like an extra like
twenty songs in case they get chosen. Yeah, so it'll
be different. It'll be different, the the set will be
different every night because the the folks get to vote
on what they want to hear.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
That's fun. It's fun. I mean it's a lot of work,
I get it, but it's it is a cool idea.
God bless Adam Bestine, I mean all of you, but
especially for having to learn all of those two yeah blausers.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Yeah. We also we're redoing some songs and we're changing
them just ever so solid so everything better is like
in my brain, I gotta switch that a little bit.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
But it's not enough that I'll remember, but enough that
I'll screw it probably half the time, you know, sure
I will yea. That is super, especially when it's like
a background like arrangement, you know, like ref Well, I
can't wait to see it. We haven't talked about it since,
but I got to see the end of the Deep too,
(03:43):
So fun. What a fun day that was. It was
the best.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
That was a great day. My family also came out
that day, so we it was fun. Man.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
I got to watch it with your kiddos and your
lovely What a lovely time we had. Yeah, poor little
Charlie was man, he was still ruggle and.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Second I was so tired. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
What did he say to you in the in the intermission?
Speaker 5 (04:04):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (04:05):
He was like, is this like the end or is
this halftime? Oh yeah, you said half halftime.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
He's like half time time. Oh no. I was like,
I'm sorry, buddy. I was like, you to just fall asleep.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Yeah, but he I mean he maybe fell asleep for
a little bit, but mostly he was up and fine.
I think he was kind of keeping him going maybe
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
But yeah, eleven pm is pretty late for those guys,
so they were they were.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Tired, pretty late for this guy. So I get this
guy too, I hear him. But it was a great
tour if that happens again, and I recommend people go
check it out because it was Thank you. It was
a ton of fun, dude.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Really we had a blast. Man. Those guys are just
so sweet. Hopefully, if we ever do it again, Robbie
will actually be able to be there for sure, even
though that's a pretty great bit.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Yeah, dude, and it worked out so well. Yeah, that
little bit it was really funny.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
So yeah, man, the last show, they do a song
where they hit things. It's called the Hammer in the
end Villain, I believe, and Chance used Robbie's arm, his
mannequin arm and it completely shattered.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Really yeah, so kind of a perfect finality.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
It worked. Yeah, And so then we ended up like
taping it all together and like we all signed it
and I think we're doing something with it. But yeah,
it was.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
It was a fun tour, man, that's hilarious. Yeah, really
great carew of dudes. I mean, the everything was so fun.
I heard it while you were with your family. I
heard it out all day with the most.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Great dude, Adam Rock. He played games every single.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Day with those guys, dude, and they loved it. He
didn't win a single one the day I was there,
and that probably made him irate. He is not gonna
like that you said that on this upsetate. He doesn't listen.
I know that, but he'll know.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
He'll someone.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
I'll tell them probably. I hope they do, because I
whooped that ass a couple of times and that does
not happen often. So I like to rub it in
when I can. You gotta like you gotta. But we're
here to talk some movies. What's the most recent movie
you've seen?
Speaker 6 (06:17):
Pal?
Speaker 3 (06:18):
I watched a newer a twenty four film on the
plane back from Nashville, and it's called Sorry Baby. Have
you heard anything about this?
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah? I watched this movie. Wait? Did I watch this movie?
I think I watched this movie. Okay, I'll look at it.
I look it up for the people at home.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
It's written, directed, and starred by a woman named Ava Victor.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Yes, I did watch this. It's great.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
It's a great, great film. This is her first film
she's written and directed. She has acted in quite a
few things. Apparently she was a regular on the show Billions, which.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
I really only saw a handful of those episode sign
of that. Yeah, yeah, I didn't know she Okay, so
she did that.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Yeah. It's really well written. She created some really interesting characters.
It has Naomi Aki, who's been in a bunch of
things recently.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Lucas Hedges.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Yeah, and it even features our guy John Carol Lynch
for one glorious scene.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Glorious scene though so great.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
He was wonderful. He makes every movie better. Yeah, it's
kind of a bummer of a movie just because, like, yeah,
a bad thing happens to the main character and it's
her trying to deal with it. But it does have
a bunch of heart and humor surrounding it, which makes
it not a total bummer.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Yeah, it's it is a weird combination of those two things.
I agree because I loved it and found it very
uplifting by the end. But I totally agree with you,
like is it's tough, right, and there's some tough subject
matter happening in it. Yeah, I'm with you, though I
was knocked up by that movie. I loved it a lot.
I thought it was great.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a nomination for
Best Original Screenplay. Possibly good call, But yeah, it's if anything,
it's just it's a really well done movie. And I
watched it on the flight home for Nashville, and that's
only an hour and a half, so it was it
was a pretty quick watch as well. Agreed, Thanks, it
was a US movie you watched.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
I went to the theater and saw a movie with
what I can only assume was a slightly larger budget.
It was called One Battle after Another. Have you seen this.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yet, I haven't.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
I haven't got a chance, which I get I've had.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
The chance, but I'm like, it's like three hours in
and out so long.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yeah, yeah, I get you that. Yeah, I get it.
I get it. It is it is long. It doesn't
feel that long when you're watching it. I know that
doesn't help you in your like, you know, finding a
chunk of day to go do that, But it really
doesn't feel that long. It's a great film. This is
the newest Paul Thomas Anderson film. It features Leo, Sean Penno,
(09:03):
Benicio del Toro, who I think is my favorite part of.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
The whole movie.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
He's just I mean, that dude is a charisma bomb anyway,
but man, his character is fun in this really weird,
fun movie, talking about like ex revolutionaries and their life
and it involves his daughter and like stuff going crazy
with Leo. It's really really good. It's absolutely gonna be.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Up for some awards. I'm hearing Leo.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Possibly absolutely, He's so good in it as sort of
a different character than I've seen him play before, because
he's kind of like bumbling and like a little like
neurotic and worried and stuff, but really really good, and
it's it's really fun, so you're gonna love it when
you see it. But it is two hours and forty
one minute, so it's she's a long one for sure.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
With previews, it's gonna be three hours for sure.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Yeah, for sure, But I recommend if you like uh.
And and I go back and forth on Paul Thomas
Anderson films. I mean they're all like well done and
beautifully shot and all that, but they're the subject matters.
Sometimes I'm like, hey, you know whatever, this one was
really fun, action packed, so I.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Really like that.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Definitely not a Paul Thomas Anderson That's what I thought too,
But this is like epic action going on this one.
So it's it's pretty fun. Man. I think you specifically
are going to really love it, and I think I'm
as well too. And it'll uh, it'll be up. Maybe
we'll even do it a podcast on it. If it wins,
like wow, Best Picture something Wow, I don't feel a
(10:38):
little surprised.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Maybe who knows Pta has the best picture. I don't
know if he did.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
He win for the Master? Was that him?
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Definitely not? That was him? But he didn't win Best
Picture for that? Yeah, the only one I can think
of is maybe there will be blood. But I don't
think that one best picture.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
I don't think it did either. I think you're right.
So yeah, but it was. It was really good and
it's getting greater views and all that, so yeah, check
it out.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
We'll do.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
But have you been streaming anything?
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Yeah, And the last one I talked about how I
had started Black Rabbit. I have since finished it, and
I thought it It's pretty dark, it's pretty intense. It
kind of made me feel anxious, kind of feels like
uncut gems where the main character just keeps making the
wrong decisions over and over and over. So, right, it
(11:30):
wasn't my favorite series ever, but I will say that
the acting from Jude Law and especially Jason Bateman in
the last three episodes is fantastic, nice, very cool, and
so that was worth checking out for me.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
They like brothers right or something.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Yeah, yeah, and they just it's one of those where
it's like not sure who I'm rooting for here. Yeah, yeah,
you know, one of those, and so I've been having
a harder time with those series lately. But yeah, the
last three episodes are worth the watch for what they were,
(12:11):
and they're all extremely well done. They're directed well like
it has like a whole esthetic that is impressive.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
That's like the filmmaking was impressive.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
I get that was more just the subject matters, just
like oh why well you.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Kind of don't need to be bumped out constantly. Yeah,
so thanks where I was. But yeah, Jason Bateman, great stuff.
I'm sure he's going to be up forwards. I think
I'm definitely gonna watch that. I just don't know when.
I haven't started it yet, so yeah, we'll see. Yeah,
nice cool. What have you been watching? I watched I
(12:45):
think it only had four episodes for this first season,
which is kind of interesting. But mini series Marvel Zombies
came out.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
I never even heard of this.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Four episodes of the Marble folks. If any anyone watched,
what if they did a zombie you know sort of
they did like one plot line that was zombies. This
is four episodes all in that world.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Interesting.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
It's really cool and very interesting. They bring in some
characters that have only been in like the TV series,
and then like a couple that have been what's her
name now, I can't think of it, Miss Marvel. I
think is her name? That Iman Villani? I don't think
you ever watched that show, but much.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
The show, but she was in like Captain Martin.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
She was in yep. Yeah, but anyway, she does a voice.
A bunch of a bunch of the folks do their
own voices of their characters, and it's just fun in
that world to be able to see character lines you
probably wouldn't see otherwise. And the Marvel Zombies is really
interesting because you really get a nice mixture of a
(13:51):
bunch of characters. You know, they have a billion of
them now. So uh, it was really fun and it
had a pretty compelling arc throughout it, and the end
of it left me they're for sure making a season two,
it sounds like at some point, and I'm intrigued by
it kind of left me in a little bit of
a cliffhanger. So it was fun. I liked it a lot. Nice. Yeah,
that was pretty neat. You know, it's kind of niche
(14:14):
because it's like, yeah, you have to like animated and
Marvel a lot, I feel like.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
But the whole thing is four episodes.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Yeah, this whole first the whole first series, first season
is the right word. It's just four episodes, so and
they're like thirty minutes, so you're not in it for
like a huge you know, time commitment or anything, which
is kind of nice sometimes. So yeah, but I recommend it.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
I really liked it.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
I thought it was cool, cool, nice. What do you
think should we do if you plug our runs? Yeah?
It nice. You guys can usit. That's always over on
the Twitter machine where we're at evid Indoorsman with a Z,
or you can go to Facebook dot com slash the
Ebed Indorsman. Also available on Instagram, Tick Talk, Blue Sky
at threads.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
We're all over the place, but if.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
You really want to hang out and be part of
the crow spot to go.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Atreon Slash the Avid Endorsment. Yeah, it's a great time
on patron and we love our patrons. We have a
lot of perks. One of those is getting a shout
out here. So let's say, what's up to Marsha Grisiac,
Mary Fox, Nannette Walkley. You have Brosta deb Olk and
Noel Flores. You guys, you're pretty great. Thanks so much
for your patronage. Another perk that we like to give
(15:21):
our patrons is an extended version of every episode that
we put out. We'll usually do a top five draft
that pertains to the movie we're talking about. And for
this one, we're doing our top five favorite spoof movies
or parody films.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Yeah. I think it's gonna be fun. I had quite
the list. I liked it. Yeah, there's a lot, there's
a lot of that category. That fine line between satire
and spoof slash parody is one that still eludes me.
I'm gonna be honest. So we'll have some discussion, but
it should be tons of fun. We will look forward
to that. Greg. Yes, today to talk about a great
(15:56):
film though that inspired us. We're going to talk about
a film call called Airplane What, which is forty five
years old Rob from If I guess, if that young
man next to you is going to be getting a
snack and getting a water, we should probably invite him
on the pod.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
We should. We absolutely should should welcome your father. Let's
give it up for a friend.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Hey Dad, Hi son. It's weird because we're sitting right
next to each other.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
We really are, And yeah, it's like.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
We're very close.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Play right now.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
We are sharing a headset. Yeah, a little wired airbud thingies.
Because I didn't think about bringing a splitter because I
am brilliant.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
You just wanted to be close to your dad, did Well,
we're gonna be close. That's nice.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
I won't be able to make eye contact with him
without it being weird.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
It reminds me of.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
A rom com.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
What Broadway show did you guys go to where you
had to like switch arms? Yep, yep?
Speaker 3 (16:59):
That was. That was a Little Night Music featuring Catherine
Zada Jones. And yeah, he would sit forward for a
while and I would have my arm around him, and
then I'd sit forward. But meanwhile both of our inside
like this I don't know explained, dude, just my whole
left side was just completely soaked.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Fine right side.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Yeah, we were sweaty, sweaty Catherine Zada Jones, Angela Lansbury, Wow,
it was cool.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
What a delight.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
That had been a long time ago, now, huh.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
It was a while ago. Now. We also that trip
tried to see the Coldbert Show. That was before he
was doing like the Late Night was like when he
was on Comedy Central, and we waited in line for
a while and we were like, oh, we're never gonna
get blow.
Speaker 6 (17:54):
A long while. You wentn't got us a Cuban sandwich, Jutta.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Badegast Cuban sandwich.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
And line.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
That was good. Sounds wonderful.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
I do love them.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Sometimes you find robbing them even when there's a man
hunter man even Zempler.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Look at some.
Speaker 6 (18:17):
Oh the money Python one.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
No, no, that was different. We did see spam lot.
That was when the whole family was there.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Yeah, fun remember selling cans of spam?
Speaker 1 (18:28):
I really I never saw that show, and I would
love to. I bet it was.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
It was under fun. Was that when you guys saw
the one who was? It was on Grace anatomy? I think, yeah, yeah,
she was on it. She ended up I think she
won the Tony nice.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Yeah, believable, crazy good.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
It's cool. And it was kind of like a spoof
like musical movie, kind of.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
A parody of sorts. What a great segue.
Speaker 6 (18:54):
Let's talk about it.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Wrote it. Yeah, that's amazing. We're here today to talk
about a wonderful spoof film. Should we get right into it?
Rob you want to get a started with the rough synopsis?
I sure do.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
This spoof comedy takes shots at the slew of disaster
movies that were released in the seventies when the passengers
and crew of a jet are incapacitated due to food poisoning.
A rogue pilot with a drinking problem must cooperate with
his ex girlfriend turned stewardess to bring the plane to
a safe landing. Nice.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Nice, great read, great read. Let's go to Rotten Tomatoes
and hear what they have to say. Critics have this
coming in at just a pretty rock solid ninety seven
percent crazy.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
That is salid.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
That is very fresh. Audience members yeah, maybe even higher.
Audience members have it at eighty nine, which I think
is audiences are dumb.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Yeah, but it's comedies are so tough.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Yeah, that is very high for a pure comedy, that's
for sure. Yeah. Good cool. Yeah, let's go in and
say what we think. Let's get our hot take.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
That's a hot take.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
That's a hot takeowicy, I had a fish. It was hot. Oh, okay, great, great, Yeah,
I love it. I'll go first with this. I have
loved this movie for my whole life. I think I
can remember watching it a ton when I was a
little kid, especially when I go over to my grandma's house.
(20:26):
For some reason, we watched like Police Academy and Airplane
over there. Those maybe have been the only tapes that
she had, but man, I loved it, and in retrospect,
those are the perfect two tapes. So that's probably why
I'm such a depraved human being because this movie pushes
the envelope in a lot of ways. It's like, jokes
per minute are just so high because there's just a joke, joke, joke, joke, joke.
(20:51):
So it's such a fun rewatch every time. I feel
like you come up with something you you didn't hear,
you didn't hear completely the time before because you were
laughing at the previous one, or something just really fun
to play off all these movie tropes and everything. I
just love it. And I think all these actors playing
everything so seriously that they become the joke is like
(21:12):
my favorite part of the movie. I just I just
think it's brilliant. I just have such a fun time
with it. There's not as many things in this that
age poorly as I thought there might be. I was
a little that was.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
I was shocked by that.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Yeah, I mean there's like the pilot talking about the
little kid and getting naked and stuff, but they also
knew that was in poor taste that you know what.
I mean so it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Right well and it's directly making fun of a film.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Absolutely, but yeah, like otherwise it does pretty good for
the most part. Not perfect, but pretty yeah, pretty good.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
The only stuff that I felt like like maybe like
a little current event ee like with like the gerald
Ford joke and like just like yeah, but right, you know,
but it certainly wasn't like you know, like it didn't
age well.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Yeah, you know, there was nothing in it. We were like,
ohh boy, they that wasn't a joke and boy it's
bad or whatever. Yeah, yeah, but yeah, I just I
continue to love this movie. I think it's it's wonderful.
I hope we get back to making more of these
just pure zany comedy kind of movies. They're really fun,
uh and they're just a good time. My hot take though, is,
(22:23):
uh so he starts, he leaves the meter on in
his cab when he gets out and just leaves that guy.
We do see him a couple more times, but they
never complete that story arc. And I just want to
call out the one plot hole that's in this film,
because that's it. Otherwise everything else makes sense. No, I
don't know, we never really see him again, do we no.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
We see him in the end of the credits. Did
you not watch the end of the credits?
Speaker 5 (22:46):
I thought it, dude.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
He goes all the way to the end of credits
and he's like, I'm going to wait twenty more minutes
and then.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Oh, yeah, that's right, I have seen that before. Well
damn yeah, all right, well, so watch the end of
the credits. My real hot take, I actually had two,
but this works out really well.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
This is nice.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
I planned it this way. The drinking problem bit, it
was the funniest thing I'd ever seen when I was
a kid when I first saw it, and it continues
to be a perfect joke. I love that bit so much.
It makes me laugh every single time. So I just
think it's perfect. So I just want to call up
that whoever WROTI it. Maybe it's been done a ton
(23:26):
of times, but it was the first time for me,
and I have loved that joke my entire life, and
it's so great to say. So that's my hot take.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
That's a great, great take that might be brought up
in the dinghis I love it. Yeah, man, I always
thought this movie was hilarious. It was not one that
we watched a lot as a family. That wasn't like
we didn't I don't think we had that one taped
or anything. I felt like I saw it more on
like basic cable.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
That makes sense. Sure, I felt like I saw it
a lot on TV.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
But this is written in direct by Jerry and David
Zucker and Jim Abrahams. They went on to do more
parody films like the Naked Gun series and the hot
Shots films part due I watched so many times ago. Yeah,
I've always enjoyed these kinds of films, or they're making
(24:19):
fun of other ones, like mel Brooks did with westerns
and sci fi films. These guys did with action movies
and then like the scary movie folks did with horrors.
I just think it's a fun it's.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
A fun time.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
The fact that they did take these really serious actors.
Now I wasn't super familiar with a lot of these
actors from before, just because I didn't watch a lot
of movies before this. But the fact that they were
all very like seasoned, like serious actors and they played
it that way and it just like you said, it
just made it so much funnier. Has some of like
(24:57):
the all time great lines ever in movie. Seriously, some
of them are just incredible. But yeah, I've had a
very similar take. It's such a good time holds up
well forty five years later. I do think these movies
are coming back with like the Lonely Island Crew and
we just had the Naked Gun redone, which was incredible.
(25:21):
So yeah, Hot Take, I'm glad that they're they're coming back,
because it felt like it was a little oversaturated, maybe
like in the two thousands, where they did like a
ton of them and they weren't very funny. So yeah,
I'm glad that they're going back and doing them and
like putting the work to make it pretty funny.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
Love it, Hot Take, Hot Hot Take, What do you got? Frett?
Speaker 6 (25:44):
I loved it from the opening when they do the.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
Theme to Jaws, Yes.
Speaker 6 (25:51):
And showing the plane the fan in the back of
the plane going through the clouds, and it just kept
getting funny air. That was a beautiful way to start
this movie. There were so many one liners and little
bits that are just sometimes, like you said, you have
(26:15):
to watch it three times to get eighty percent of
I had forgotten about the dog attack at Stax House
when they go get him and that's hysterical. He's like
doing your shirt and time. His wife said, the dog
is gnawing up this airline employee. There's so many little
(26:40):
things throughout the movie that are just funny. I found
myself pausing it to try to catch up with my laughter,
because if you start laughing at one thing, you miss
three things.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Absolutely, that's when you know.
Speaker 6 (26:55):
It's a funny movie. Yeah, there's very few movie makers
that can do that. But like Rob said, and you,
they took these serious actors Robert Stack, Leslie and Neils said.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
That's so crazy to me that Leslie Nielsen was a
real serious doctor, because I've pretty much only known him
as this funny.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
But this movie re jump started his career. That's crazy
movies because he was In fact, I've read a quote
where he said, I was going to be cast as
the Grandpa and the Chilly movies, and here he got
this whole new life as Lieutenant Drebens Or.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
Who was.
Speaker 6 (27:40):
Anyway.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
I love that movie.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
This is a.
Speaker 6 (27:44):
This is a laugh from beginning to end.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Love it totally agree, Nice, I love it. Hot takes
all around. Uh, well what do we say? Should we
go and name our favorite acting performance? Shall we name
the dude the dude.
Speaker 7 (27:58):
I'm the dude, So that's what you call me, you
know that, or his dudeness or duder or you know,
el dud reno. If you're not into the whole brevity thing.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
Fred, do you want to go first? Who's you do?
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Started off? Dad?
Speaker 6 (28:15):
Oh, that's a you know, I'm trying to I think
Lloyd Bridges. Yeah, which was a bad week to quit smoking,
and then it just went down hill. That was my
favorite of all time in the movie. He was my favorite.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Inappropriate that he dude because he just kept sniffing glue
and then he goes over backwards the best. He was
so funny.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
He was And see when I saw this in whatever
ninety there, eteen eighty.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
I remember him and Sea Hunt a very serious TV show,
So this was just I just sat there screaming.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
It was so funny. Anyway, that was my Yeah, he
was good, was excellent.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
It was really funny. I didn't have him, But the
fact that you said it was appropriate for him to
be a dude, I would be.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Fine picking up I didn't think that till right now,
but I.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Was gonna pick Leslie Nielson just because this was kind
of the beginning of him for me. Yeah, and I
just thought he I've loved him since I was a kid.
Like every single thing that he just he plays it
so well. He knows it's funny, but he's not playing
(29:39):
it like it's he's funny. And uh, yeah, I don't know.
Just every time he was on screen it just made
me smile.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
The first time he's on screen, are you a doctor?
Speaker 1 (29:52):
And he's sitting.
Speaker 6 (29:55):
Already around his neck but it's so fun Why do you?
I was just perfect.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
But he's not really winking to the cameras to be
able to do yeah. Yeah, the restraint to not like
wink at the camera is something I don't have, like
I want, I need the right like I need it.
But well, and yeah, he has the line of the
movie for sure. I did pick Leslie Nielson for the
(30:29):
and I actually it's funny you said that, Fred, because
I wrote down from that first scene where we see
him sleeping but he's got the stethoscope in. I just
was cracking up the whold like it's so perfect, and
he answers everything so sternly. It's just wonderful. So I
like both your picks. I think we should pick both
of them to be the dude because I think they're
both just so appropriate. I love that. Yeah, I love it. Well,
(30:53):
there's a bunch of other great people in this, So
shall we go on to the tucciy for this one?
Fred well Laz where it gets harder.
Speaker 6 (31:07):
I think Peter Graves gets my Tucci Award his dead
pan do you like Gladiator movies to me?
Speaker 1 (31:16):
You know?
Speaker 6 (31:16):
And just this he's asking these questions that pretty uncomfortable actually,
but he does in such a serious way. Have you
ever seen a grown man naked.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Spent a lot of time in the locker rooms?
Speaker 6 (31:34):
And then they're describing the symptoms and he's getting the measure.
Peter Graves was when I was a kid, the guy
in Mission Impossible was in charge, right, he was always
And I like the fact that he went to the
U of M. And they're from Minnesota and his brother
(31:56):
was James Arnest from Gunsmoke. Wow, so that's like that
local thing. But he gets my Tucci Award.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
That's fun a great pick. I love that. He's so funny. Yeah,
he was good. Over over you got Roger Rogers.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
I was going to pick Julie Haggerty as Elaine Dickinson. You.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
I love her. She was wonderful.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Her voice is just it's it's so funny. It's been
the same since nineteen eighty. But she I really uh
connect with her in Just Friends, We like that.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
Yeah, she's the mom Joyce.
Speaker 6 (32:38):
What about Bob?
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Yeah, yeah, but yeah, she was really funny in this
Yeah when she asked too. I mean the autopilot scene
is so funny.
Speaker 6 (32:54):
Cigarette and then Leslie Nielsen opens the door, go, oh gosh.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
That's incredible. The spoof on.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
From Here to Eternity with on the on the beach
and just every time the waves come then there's like
more seaweed like on her and then you'll see like
a fish like.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Yeah, I just thought she was great.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
I loved her.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
And she does such a good job too. Of like
if you put her lines where she's like, I just
can't do it anymore ted, like in a movie where
they're trying to be stern, like a love movie or something,
it would totally fit. Like she's acting. It's just so
so great. I love it. Those are both great picks
(33:45):
I'm gonna pick. I probably would have picked Julie both years.
I would have picked but to name some other folks,
the best cameo of any athlete ever. I think Kareem
abdul jar there. I love it. They like sort of
don't make him cream, but then also definitely do make
him and then they pull him out.
Speaker 6 (34:07):
There's Charity's wearing.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
So that that whole bit is so so good. I
think he's just really good in this, Like he's so funny.
He's outburst at the kid, you know, try telling him
to drag their asses up and down the court. You know.
All that stuff just so so funny. So I loved
him a lot. And then one that I did not
realize I liked so much as a man named Steven Stucker.
(34:32):
And he is in all the scenes bridges where he's like, hey,
some coffee and he's like, no, I'm good, you know,
and then yeah, and then he has all his crazy
lines of like making a brooch, what are you making it?
He's just so funny, and he's like the Tower Rapunzel,
(34:53):
you know, like all that stuff. I loved him so.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Much, way over the top. He was very kind of
felt like he got free rain to just be did so.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
I read in the trivia that he had libbed all
of his lines. They were basically just that way, and
he's like a Broadway actor, I guess primarily, but it
felt like someone just knew him and they were like,
he's super funny. Just let him do whatever he wants.
It'll be great, you know, like and it fits so perfectly.
It's just really great.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
But it is funny though, because he's the only one
who's like pretty hard.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
That's why it works is it's only one person doing that,
you know what I mean, And it's so short that
it doesn't feel like they're trying too hard, even though
he definitely is, you know, I don't he's almost spoofing
people who try to make comedies funny or something. I
don't know. It's really interesting, but I just I really
liked him on this.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
He was funny and dude, did you recognize the one dude?
He actually had hair? But we've known him from Breaking
Bad and Better Call Song? Yeah what Jonathan Banks?
Speaker 1 (35:52):
Yeah yeah, And I was like, whoa, that's him.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
That blew my mind.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
So he's been acting a long time.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
Yeah him. He looks so old right now, but he
was so good as Mike in Breaking Bad and.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
I think he's.
Speaker 6 (36:09):
Right.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
But yeah, yeah, yeah, I did recognize him. That was
super fun.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
And then dude having June Cleaver, Yeah, the jive translator,
and she was always the perfect mom.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Loved her.
Speaker 6 (36:26):
So the folks my age or older who enjoyed this movie,
all they knew around it was the perfect mom and
a skirt and a sweater making dinner, right, you know,
and here she's.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
Just you know, his jive.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
I love her.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
That was so great, such a good bit.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
And I love the good bit.
Speaker 6 (36:48):
I thought the closed captioning for what you were saying.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
Yeah, cool, you know, I'm just really really good.
Speaker 6 (36:56):
That was very subtle, but very.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
Fun I liked that a lot. That was really good.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Also, Robert Stack super funny.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
Yeah we didn't say Roberts just.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
So ultimately serious sounding like he's got such a voice
and about him. But man, he was so funny in this.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
Really good.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
Was he Rescue nine one one? Yeah? No unsolved mysteries.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
I feel like we did this last week. Yeah, he
was really great and.
Speaker 6 (37:27):
Uncommon valor.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
I don't think I saw.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
That, you know, we had it, we had the VHS
and that was one that I never saw.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Very good. I have to check that out. But yeah,
he was just you go to do that movie funny
in that maybe I like it. I like it. Uh.
I think those were all the people I wrote down,
that's all I guess. The main dude, what's his name?
He was good? Oh, yeah, it was funny.
Speaker 5 (37:53):
We didn't say him, did we.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
Uh can you look him up? I'm on it going
ted No, his name in the he was ten striker
Robert Hayes. Striker Robert Hayes. This is good. I liked
him a lot.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
Yeah, Saturday night fever bit is really funny.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Again the drinking problem.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
The drinking problem is.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
The best.
Speaker 6 (38:14):
Relating his relationship. And then they finally I know I'm talking,
probably talking too long, and.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Her feet are yeah, the passengers and the yeah, that
bit of all the suicides, I guess maybe that doesn't
age super great, but it is fun.
Speaker 6 (38:39):
The only racist thing I really saw was the japan
His soldier, you know.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, that was funny. Oh, it was a funny bit
for sure. The old lady.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Oh no, the other guy was going to light himself
on fire, but then he didn't have.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
To, and then it happened and he.
Speaker 6 (38:59):
Was very great full look on.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
Oh boy, yeah silly. I don't think there's any other yea, folks,
I feel like we have to name everybody was great. Well,
let's go into our favorite scene and let's choose. So
is quite simple, really, ingus, dingus. I could talk about
my dingas all day long.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
I think I have the same one. But Dad, what
was your favorite scene?
Speaker 6 (39:26):
There's too many to really I got five favorites. That's
one I'll pick is there's nothing to worry about. Everything's
under control and the stewardess is pulling pilots down the
hallway to the back of the plane. Now, that was
one of my favorites.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
Does anyone know how to fly a plane or whatever?
Out but they're doing this, don't panic.
Speaker 6 (39:54):
Everything is And I love the two stewards and they
called them stewardess.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
Yeah right right, are yanking him to the back? That's
I loved it. That's great.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
Yeah, all the drinking problems that was always my favorite.
I just thought that was the funniest.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Thing for sure.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
And then my runner up was the looks like I
picked the wrong week to whatever.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
That recurring bit.
Speaker 6 (40:26):
Was brilliant.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Fhetamines Yeah, yeah, so good. All of them were good.
Speaker 6 (40:33):
Put on the lights on the field, yeah, crash, Yeah,
I love that.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
I'm with you. The recurring bit I think is right
up there. I really like the bar scene that seems
like it's almost like a Casablanca sort of riff as
well a little bit but where they first meet and
then it goes into the boogie scene and all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
I really like that.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
I love you mean and dram booie and.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
That was Yeah, didn't they call a place dackery too?
Speaker 1 (41:05):
Yeah? Yeah, And this one I get that they're they're
striking someone they don't know, but the lineup scene where
they're smacking the woman because she's freaking out is that
has always cracked me up to just like, it's hilarious
the people then they got the bat and the boxing
gloves and it's really funny. That's just a funny the
(41:27):
boy reading nuns life and the life so much silly,
but so silly.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
That's so fun. I also had all of the Auto
Pilot's staff and the fact that his name is Auto.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
Probably should have picked him for a two. Honestly, he was.
I love to have him be able to move his
head a winking eye. Yeahgrette.
Speaker 6 (41:54):
At the beginning after the Jaws theme, you've got the
scene as people are coming into my car and the
credits no parking in the red zone, my god, and
then the argument between the man and the woman between
the red zone.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
And the way because I could get an abortion.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
I know, that gets real.
Speaker 1 (42:17):
Yeah, that's a great I love that bit. And it
went it was recurring the whole front credit credit.
Speaker 5 (42:26):
My god, it's so good.
Speaker 3 (42:29):
Yeah, I love that. Every time there was the cut
to where you see the plane like in the clouds flying.
Speaker 2 (42:39):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (42:39):
It sounds like it's just like a propeller.
Speaker 2 (42:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
Yeah, so really funny.
Speaker 5 (42:46):
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 6 (42:48):
Bit, the checking of the oil and cleaning window. And
that was the guy from different note.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
Was Jimmy wat Walker. I never realized that.
Speaker 6 (43:01):
I've read it in trivia watch six hundred dollars.
Speaker 1 (43:05):
To do that. That's fun. I did not know that. Yeah,
I like that he did shut the lead. Yeah, yeah,
really good.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
Another recurring bit that I love that. I'm sure it'll
just come up in quotes, but just the the what
is it?
Speaker 1 (43:24):
It was like it's this either hospital or building. We're duck.
So really great, really good stuff.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (43:35):
I also love at the end the landing sequence, but
when they're they're flying by the gates and the gate
announcer is like now riving at Yeah, such a dumb joke,
but I love it same.
Speaker 6 (43:53):
Well, that's another dumb one. Was the girl saying goodbye
to her serviceman. Oh yes, and that running into towers.
Speaker 1 (44:01):
And their things station.
Speaker 6 (44:06):
You better get a board, son conductor.
Speaker 1 (44:09):
Really great.
Speaker 5 (44:10):
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 3 (44:12):
It's funny.
Speaker 1 (44:13):
That's funny. Ton of good bits, tons of good ones.
Should we get into some of these quotes? Though, it
is the time to shoot. Get the money, shout me
the money show, Frett. You want to go first with
some quotes?
Speaker 3 (44:33):
There are so many, but I love the You gotta
do the first one.
Speaker 5 (44:39):
Yeah, that is the one.
Speaker 6 (44:41):
Yeah, surely you can't be serious. I am serious, and
don't call me sure.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
That's the best one.
Speaker 6 (44:47):
I also like put ham on five and hold them
out the courtesy white and yeah, the Mayo clinic.
Speaker 3 (44:56):
Yes, and there's all those cans things of Mayo behind.
Speaker 6 (45:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
I never caught that grabs the red phone and you
hear the white phone.
Speaker 6 (45:07):
Thank you. That is a I love that.
Speaker 1 (45:12):
It's so funny. I also had never noticed this the
like strings before on the heart, and I was like,
what is that string? Therefore, and then the heart comes
like jumping up. That was cracking me up. I've never
seen that before.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
Ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (45:26):
That also the sayings of Peter Graves. Everything he asked
Timmy was hysterical.
Speaker 1 (45:37):
Yes, you like so serious?
Speaker 6 (45:42):
Have you ever seen a grown man naked? Those? I
just get sick to my stomach on.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
His delivery is so perfect on those lines, it's just insane.
Speaker 5 (45:55):
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 1 (45:57):
Nice.
Speaker 6 (45:58):
And then in the cockpit, kareem grab the dragoning near
up and down for forty five minutes. You know that's good, Red,
I'm done with mine. There were too many.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
There's so many. Uh, this woman has to be got
into a hospital.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
Hospital. What is it?
Speaker 3 (46:15):
It's a big building with patients. But that's not important
right now.
Speaker 1 (46:19):
Great, love that.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
What was it we had for dinner tonight? Well we
had a choice of steak or fish. Yes, yes, I remember,
I had lasagna. Yeah, what is so dumb? Oh the
nervous Yes, first time. No, I've been nervous, lots of
I love that. Oh good, Oh yeah, that's a funny bit. Oh,
(46:47):
just the whole excuse me, Captain over, but I have
an emergency call in five Oh yeah, we said that,
all right, give me.
Speaker 1 (46:57):
Over over. I didn't write that whole thing. Vectors up. Yeah, perfect.
Speaker 3 (47:05):
Last thing I have is Captain, how soon can you land?
I can't tell you can tell me. I'm a doctor. No,
I mean I'm just not sure. Well, can't you take
a guess? Not for another two hours? You can't take
a guess for another two hours. It was very like
whos on the first situation?
Speaker 1 (47:21):
Yeah, absolutely, those ones I wrote down.
Speaker 3 (47:25):
What do you got?
Speaker 1 (47:26):
So the do we want the whole red zone the
white zonething we probably don't have to do so long.
So there, the red zone is for immediate loading and
unloading of passengers. There's no stopping in the white zone.
Then the other one says the opposite, and then they're like,
the red zone has always been for loading and unloading.
There's never stopping in the white zone. Don't tell me
what zone is for stopping, which is just for loading. Listen, Betty,
(47:49):
don't start up with your white zone again. That cracks
me up so hard. Listen, Betty, don't start up. The
white zone is so funny.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
I love it, and it's just like the opening.
Speaker 1 (48:03):
To the airport.
Speaker 3 (48:04):
It's perfect, it's.
Speaker 5 (48:05):
Really really good.
Speaker 1 (48:06):
And then like you said, rap, they go crazy.
Speaker 3 (48:09):
We know perfectly.
Speaker 1 (48:10):
Well what we're talking about? You like, yeah, amazing, amazing. Also, Fred,
this isn't aside we're religious people handing you pamphlets in airports.
Speaker 6 (48:26):
It was extreme when I was in the service and
go through a lot of airport and it was the
called the Moonie's and they were wearing those calf hands
around you call them, and handing out literature trying to
sell you a flower.
Speaker 1 (48:42):
They were all over all the airport. Okay, because I
never knew that was a thing.
Speaker 6 (48:47):
Except what Minneapolis did was set up a desk where
they couldn't walk up to you. You would had to
walk up to them. They're still there now. I haven't
seen the mooney and forty years.
Speaker 3 (49:01):
Would they give out pamphlets of Jewish sports legends.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
I had that reading reading. One of my favorites was
the one.
Speaker 6 (49:12):
Guy suffering after the war. He's talking to Ted and
there was ethel merman O.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
Yes, funny, it was.
Speaker 6 (49:23):
Last Stinging on film and it was beautiful for as.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
Hell as hell.
Speaker 1 (49:30):
So funny was that I loved it.
Speaker 3 (49:34):
The good call bringing that up that was so funny.
Speaker 1 (49:36):
Hysterical, But yeah, I I didn't. I guess I didn't
fly until after nine to eleven, So I didn't I
didn't understand that people used to just come up to
you when you would be going into the place that's
pretty well well and you didn't go through any of
the crazy, and it was the different world my family.
Speaker 6 (49:56):
When we came home from Berlin, my family was right
at the yeah yeh know, to get Rob and Jenny.
I mean they were right there.
Speaker 3 (50:05):
It's weird. Well, like all those older movies, even like Friends,
you'll see episodes where they can just read you know, yeah,
you can't do that.
Speaker 1 (50:14):
Interesting. Sorry for that aside. I loved the Oh that
was so funny. Got that correct?
Speaker 6 (50:23):
I want to sing it now.
Speaker 1 (50:25):
The layer down and smack them yackam has always cracked
me up. I love that so so much. I don't
know what it means, but I love it.
Speaker 6 (50:34):
Oh no, you got to read this, everything is all right.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
I also love the bit with the little kid in
first class and then the young lady in first class.
My god, I'm just wondering if you'd like a cup
of coffee, you know, and all that, and then he's
like cream, no, thank you, I take it black like
my men. And then his look is seven years old
or something so funny that cracks.
Speaker 6 (51:03):
I like to look on the kid's face too. He
didn't overact, which hats off to him.
Speaker 3 (51:11):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (51:12):
I love it.
Speaker 6 (51:13):
I like when they're directing the plane.
Speaker 1 (51:16):
Yes, he's going this way, have you seen me whatever, and.
Speaker 6 (51:20):
He goes, yeah, it's over there. When the plane goes
through the window. Yeah, so dumb, stupid bit and workable.
Speaker 1 (51:28):
So so funny. I also love the all hell is
breaking loose. They're like trying to land the plane. Everything's
going crazy. Leslie Nielsen sticks his head for like the
third time into the cockpit and he just goes, I
just want to tell you all good luck. We're counting
on you. He says it the same every time, and
it's so funny. He doesn't have to get right. Yeah,
(51:52):
it's really great. Yeah, I don't know. Oh, there's just
so many Flying a plane is like riding a bicycle.
It's just a lot harder to put baseball cards and
the spokes. I think that's stack that says that she's
like okay, all right, So so funny.
Speaker 6 (52:14):
I like them staying alive down when he throws her
in the air and she's up there for countess and.
Speaker 1 (52:21):
Then comes this way, like to get a ball.
Speaker 6 (52:25):
But then she's can't sorry, my bad, not all excited.
Speaker 1 (52:32):
You can't hear me. I'm gonna say naughty things about them.
They can't own.
Speaker 6 (52:35):
That was very funny.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
Oh, I said so many crazy things about you guys.
Well you couldn't hear It was nuts. Yeah, I love that.
I love it so much. Yeah, what other one? This
was so hard because there's so many lines. Yeah, oh,
I love I don't think I'd ever noticed this before,
but they had the no smoking sign with the Spanish
(52:59):
underneath it and it said oh no smoking that it
was l nos you smoke O. And the seatbelts was
put on a seat belt. That was pretty fun. I
had noticed that before. I don't think.
Speaker 3 (53:16):
Yeah, so dumb.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
You want smoking or non smoking smoking box in the papers.
Speaker 6 (53:26):
I love that, Kelly.
Speaker 3 (53:28):
It's a good bit.
Speaker 1 (53:29):
Also, if they're smoking on the plane, we're all in
the smoking section.
Speaker 3 (53:32):
I think we can make right.
Speaker 1 (53:34):
Yeah. Yeah, it's like the peeing section in the pool. Yes,
that was a George Carlin really funny. I like that
a lot.
Speaker 6 (53:44):
Yeah, it was the last I loved it. It was
the last two rows of first class and then the
last four or five rows in coach. So the guy
in the last row of first class is smoking all
those people up. Yeah, they got him from botham was
pretty nasty.
Speaker 5 (54:04):
I bet, I bet.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
Yeah, that was all the lines I wrote down. I think.
Speaker 3 (54:10):
Cool. Well, let's let's move on. Let's go to the
crying game. There's gonna be a quick one zero zero zero.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
Wow, No, you're right, there's zero. There's not really Well
maybe when the dog attacked I still laughed, so probably
shouldn't have. I felt really seen by all those people
getting sick because they ate fish. That made me feel
the nice. Yeah. No, there was no booze in this film,
(54:41):
thank god. No, just they never say anything about it.
All right, let's go to some movie trivia. Now trivia,
let's see. Oh for the argument between the announcers concerning
the white zone and the red zones at the airport,
the producers hired the same voice artists who did the
real world announcements at the Los Angeles International Airport, and
(55:05):
at the airport the white zone is for loading, and uh,
there's no stopping in the red zone. But also those
two people were married in real life, which is kind
of crazy. That Yeah, that's why it was so believable
their spat I guess.
Speaker 3 (55:20):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (55:23):
Uh well, we kind of said this, We said they
were all playing sort of Uh. They picked really serious
actors to play these, you know, these roles, so I
don't think I need to say that. The I Gotta
get out of here scene where the stewardess tries to
calm down the hysterical passenger that we talked about, where
they're all smacking her and stuff, Uh, it was improvised
(55:44):
on the day that they were shooting. They were the
stewardess was gonna smack smack her once. Uh, but then
the person that was playing the nun or whatever or
the lady who's being the smacky as it were, she
was like, it'd be fun if a lot of people
did it. So then they did that there and even
included like the various props and things, and apparently the
(56:07):
Leslie Nielsen when he went to smack her the second time,
he accidentally made contact and they kept it in the
movie because they only ended up doing one take of
that where everybody smacked her. So it's pretty great. It's
pretty great. Let's see the first two days of the
movie's Grousse covered its entire production budget, which is pretty nuts.
(56:28):
That's awesome, pretty crazy.
Speaker 5 (56:31):
Let's see.
Speaker 1 (56:32):
In an interview in two thousand and eight, Kareem Abdul
Jabbar told the story of being on a European flight
where he was asked to sit in an empty seat
in the cockpit during takeoff so that the crew could
say they flew with Roger Murdoch. But I thought that
was pretty great. Oh, I love that. Also, could he
fit up there?
Speaker 5 (56:50):
I mean, he's so tall, so big, tall, crazy.
Speaker 1 (56:55):
I thought that was fun. To get them to get
Paramount to green the film, Abrams Zucker and Zucker pitched
it as National Lampoon's Animal House, but on a plane,
and they later said that's of course not true, but
it was the only way we could get them to
understand it was a zany comedy. Basically, that's cool. Whatever works.
(57:18):
Let's see. Oh this is crazy. So Lee Bryant plays
the wife. We didn't even say this, but the Jim
is never never has a second cup of coffee at home,
which is a of a real ubonn Coffee commercial that
was popular at the time. Apparently, but in an interview
with The av Club, Bryant recounted having to audition for
(57:41):
the role in Airplane, and apparently the directors didn't know
she was the one from the commercial. Actually, so she
got this part doing the exact same thing, but in
a movie without anyone apparently knowing that because it's never
been brought up. Isn't that crazy?
Speaker 3 (57:57):
That's bizarre.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
And they were entire She must have been like, well, yeah,
I should get this part. I did it your bastards, right.
I thought that was crazy.
Speaker 3 (58:09):
It is crazy.
Speaker 1 (58:10):
Uh? Was she the same one thing?
Speaker 3 (58:11):
He said, but at least I have a husband. After
she went on.
Speaker 1 (58:18):
Others through it. By the way, we never even said this.
The little girl she was sick. That is so funny,
and like the stewardest singing to her all that stuff
and pulling up the oh yeah, when the when.
Speaker 3 (58:32):
The cord comes out of that little girl and then
she's like doing the fish moll.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
Yeah, it's so funny. That was good. The little girl
from Longboat. Oh really, that's bud.
Speaker 6 (58:43):
I didn't know that she was Captain Stubing's daughter.
Speaker 1 (58:48):
Man, that's crazy. Speaking of people who played other roles,
the role of Jive Lady, it was originally intended for
Harriet Nelson would played the mother in the Adventures of
Ozzie and Harriet on TV. She turned it down because
she was concerned about the adult language in the movie,
and was replaced by Barbara Billingsley.
Speaker 3 (59:07):
Who was from me so much funnier as Barbara because.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
I recognize her. I don't know that I've ever seen
Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, to be honest, So but yeah,
I just thought that was pretty wild and fun. Robert
Hayes was in real life a licensed pilot and completed
his training in nineteen seventy four, so that's kind of fun.
The movie's dialogue between Ted Striker and Doctor Rumak. Surely
(59:33):
you can't be serious. I am serious. Don't call me
Shirley was voted as number seventy nine movie quote by
the American Film Institute. So, yeah, it's gotta be tough hunting,
but I'm glad it's in there at least.
Speaker 3 (59:44):
No.
Speaker 1 (59:45):
Yeah, I didn't realize this, but the three directors had
a long battle with the Director's Guild of America, who
initially refused to let them have a three director credit,
and so Jim Abram abrahams eagally changed his name to
Abraham's and Zuckers in order to ensure credit was given
to all three directors, but the guild ultimately allowed the
(01:00:08):
three director credit. So that's so funny. That's a clever
way to get around the rule. Auto. The Automatic Pilot
ultimately disintegrated after spending several years in Jerry Zucker's garage.
So update on Auto. He's passed. The Jaws spoof that
we see at the very beginning of the film was
(01:00:28):
made of layers of cotton on a piece of plywood
with a hidden wire track for the plane to fly
around in and it works perfectly. It's so funny.
Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
Well, you get.
Speaker 1 (01:00:40):
Why they were able to reach the production, no doubt
with that, no doubt, no doubt. And this was fun.
I thought in the scene where the husband turns on
the air for his sick wife when she first is
having the belly pain or whatever, you see in the
background that there's a man wearing a large beard. It
was supposed to fly off in the wind, but apparently
(01:01:03):
they adhesive they used wouldn't cause it to come loose.
And I went back and watched it, and you can
see him trying to like scrunch up his face and
help the beard come up. I don't think i'd ever
knowing before, but I just thought that was great. That
was all the trivia I had, Bud, do you have
any I got a couple of things.
Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
Yeah. Vincent Price was offered the role of Doctor Rumac.
He turned it down, and then it went to Leslie Nilsen.
He said, it's the biggest regret of his career. But
I feel like it wasn't Vincent Price kinda didn't he
do like the scary, seamy stuff.
Speaker 6 (01:01:39):
Because of the Shatter Day horror movie.
Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
Yeah right, and he was the thriller guy weird. He
was the Yeah. Yeah, then I cannot picture that.
Speaker 3 (01:01:51):
I feel I'm glad it went to Leslie Nielsen.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Super glad. Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
It looks like Kareem Abdul Jabbar's role was originally supposed
to be Pete Rose, but he was playing baseball at
the time. He was offered thirty grand to appear in
the movie, but he asked for thirty five to buy
a rug.
Speaker 1 (01:02:14):
All right, so that's pretty great. That's why I didn't
get it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
Letterman auditioned for the role of Ted Striker and they
liked his reading.
Speaker 1 (01:02:30):
But apparently I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
He pretty much like wasn't really comfortable with it either,
and so he was pretty excited or happy that he
like didn't have to do it weird, but apparently they
did show his audition tape on the talk show and
he was super bad. And then the Julie Haggarty role,
(01:02:56):
Sigourney Weaver and Shelley Long auditioned for it, which, honestly,
I think either one.
Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
I think they could have done it. Yeah, I'm with
your job as well, Long especially, I.
Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
Agree with you.
Speaker 6 (01:03:08):
But the voice Jullie Hager is another character in the
like and what about Bob and everything she's been Yeah,
you heard that voice and I think about that moment.
Speaker 3 (01:03:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:03:24):
Also, the guys doing the directing the plans, those are
the suckers.
Speaker 3 (01:03:30):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:31):
That's fine.
Speaker 6 (01:03:33):
I already gave you the Jimmy Walker checking the.
Speaker 1 (01:03:36):
Other Yeah, yeah, that's great that.
Speaker 6 (01:03:39):
I don't have a lot of trivia. But oh and
the Zucker's mom was in it too. She was in
a scene on the airplace, the one that hangs herself.
Speaker 1 (01:03:50):
No, no, that would have been funny, but that's funny. Nice.
Well that was Yeah, that was a Judgment Day. Will
there be a sequel? There?
Speaker 3 (01:04:02):
Was is I don't.
Speaker 1 (01:04:04):
I think I've seen it, but I don't even remember
anything about it, so it's probably not either. It it
was written and directed by another day Hen Finkleman, and
so I don't know. I feel like these guys are
so good, but I don't remember seeing.
Speaker 6 (01:04:27):
The guy who was so funny in the Control Tower.
He was funny in it, okay, and that was the
highlight of the whole movie.
Speaker 3 (01:04:36):
Yeah, it was his part.
Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
See that.
Speaker 3 (01:04:39):
It had Robert Haynes and Julian Haggerty and Lloyd Bridges.
They added Raymond Burr, who of course played like Perry Mason.
Speaker 1 (01:04:46):
Oh sure, Rip Torn was in it. Shatner was in it.
Maybe I'll have to watch. Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:04:56):
I might have to check it out. Interesting, But you
I just want to play a game. Yeah, sure, I
made a starting five. So I'm going to name my
five favorite actors from a particular film. When you know
the film, you're going to ring in with your name.
If you get it wrong, there's no negative points. You
won't be able to guess again for that movie. However,
if there are actors names remaining, you can guess those
(01:05:17):
for a point each. The other person can steal if
you get any of those names wrong. And all of
these films have something in common. When you know the theme,
you can ring it at any time for a point. Sweet,
we're sharing a computer, so I put no, I have
(01:05:37):
the idea. Here, We're good. I say that, and nowhere
is it?
Speaker 1 (01:05:45):
Here it is? Okay? Are we h Number one?
Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
The first name is Ian Holme, the second name Harry
Dean Stanton.
Speaker 1 (01:05:59):
You ughs alien?
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
How on earth?
Speaker 1 (01:06:04):

Speaker 2 (01:06:05):

Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
I think I've seen I've seen it. I knew they
were both in it. I don't know who else?
Speaker 3 (01:06:12):
Uh? Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:06:14):
And Home he.
Speaker 6 (01:06:15):
Played the android?
Speaker 3 (01:06:17):
Yeah? Well and spoiler right, he's definitely but no in
the movie.
Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
Yes, yeah, yeah, he's not Bilbo in that movie. Just kidding.
Sigourney Weaver.
Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
Yeah. Two more?
Speaker 1 (01:06:33):
Bill Paxton's in that one?
Speaker 5 (01:06:35):
Right?
Speaker 3 (01:06:36):
Is he alien?
Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
I don't One more guests?
Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
Who else is in it? Okay?
Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
So you uh, you have to to choose from? You
can't choose?
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
And home Harry Dean Stanton or Sigourney Weaver. Yeah he
is in it?
Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
Wow, I mean he probably.
Speaker 3 (01:06:59):
Give given him for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:07:02):

Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
Come up to one. I've only ever seen that once.
Somehow I knew those two were in it though.
Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
Yeah, that was impressive. That was impressive.
Speaker 1 (01:07:43):
So you got you got two points and my dad
got a I got a point. One, I get a point.
You had one half take it away from half a character.
Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
That's true, but he wasn't one of the five that
I chose. It's very clear. I'll name my five face
writ actors. You just have to pick which ones you
think that I would know, Like, I get it. I
love John Hers, Great, Harry Dean stan.
Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
All right. Number two. The first name is Don.

Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
Sorry, no, it's yes. Yes, you do have one name remaining,
and it is the guy that you're not thinking.
Speaker 1 (01:09:05):
I don't think I know his name, so you can
just go ahead. D's name?
Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
You know?
Speaker 1 (01:09:10):
Do you know the guy's name, D Chris Pratt.
Speaker 3 (01:09:13):
It's not Chris Pratt. His name is Sam Worthing.
Speaker 6 (01:09:20):
He was grading the ledge.
Speaker 1 (01:09:22):
Like he was. He's good. I just I can't think
of his name.
Speaker 6 (01:09:27):
I couldn't remember. He was blue.
Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
He was yeah, well it was not all the part
at the time, but yeah. Let's go to number three.
The first name is Will Patton. The second name is
Steve Blumi, Bukes, Bukes, ar Mgeddon Armageddon is correct. You
(01:09:50):

Speaker 1 (01:09:51):

Speaker 4 (01:09:55):

Speaker 1 (01:09:56):
Oh no, would you say uh?
Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
Ben a Flack erect one? More name?
Speaker 1 (01:10:05):

Speaker 1 (01:10:08):
No, live Tyler? It was Tyler one.
Speaker 3 (01:10:13):

Speaker 1 (01:10:14):

Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
I mean there's some other that's true, there's quite a
few of them. That's a hard one. Who what is
the one actor that I picked? Uh? That is remaining?
You can't say Bruce willis, Ben Affleck, Steve Buscemi or
Will Patten.
Speaker 6 (01:10:30):
I can see him, I can't think of his name.
Speaker 1 (01:10:33):
I don't know who was the other person.
Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
I can't think his name.
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
I'm tired, boss from Green Mile.
Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
Not Michael Clark Duncan. It is a three namer. Uh,
it's Billy Bobbsey, did I get? But you got Ben Affleck,
Bruce Willis and Armageddon but I didn't. And do we
know what the themes.
Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
Movies where it's one word and it starts a day.
Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
That's absolutely right. So all of these movies start with
a and it's a one word title on it.
Speaker 5 (01:11:05):
On it today.
Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
I got half a point.
Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
I'm like you, let's do it quicker here.
Speaker 1 (01:11:14):
Number one. The first name is Mark O'Brien. Anybody got it?
He knows who that is? Marco. That's a good question.
Mark Bryan from Spain, from that Clara.
Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
The second name is Michael Stoolbar. We love the stool
Now you're just making names.
Speaker 5 (01:11:41):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:11:43):
Very well. Probably met a memberlin. The third name is
Forrest Whittaker. I'll should be thinking about this, okay. The
fourth name is Jeremy Renner. The fifth and final name
is Minnesota's own Amy Adams. Oh, good Lord, Bukes Arrival.
Speaker 5 (01:12:09):
I would have been so mad.
Speaker 1 (01:12:10):
I didn't get that in the name.
Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
Of the movie.
Speaker 6 (01:12:12):
I've only seen it, so good, isn't it?
Speaker 1 (01:12:15):
Fred? Yeah, it's a good one.
Speaker 6 (01:12:18):
I really like that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
One. We've done that movie.
Speaker 3 (01:12:23):
I don't think we have we should do which is
crazy movie?
Speaker 1 (01:12:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:12:26):
Yeah, I remember just being blown away by.
Speaker 1 (01:12:30):
