for insider news and draft analysis from deep within the
confines of Cowboys Headquarters at.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
The Star in Frasco.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Now your hosts, Botch Lombardi, Nick Harris, Bobby Belt, Tommy
Yarish and Kyle Yeomans.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
Today is Tuesday, April twenty eighth, twenty twenty six, and
the twenty twenty six NFL Draft is in the books.
Welcome in to the Draft Show, presented by Miller Lte,
the only beer of the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 5 (00:49):
This segment is.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Brought to you by your Texas Ford Dealers. Ford is
the best in Texas. Last opportunity to wrap up what
was an unforgettable NFL draft. Fotch Lombardi, Nick Harris, Tommy Yarish,
Bobby Belt, Chris Beam in the back of Kyle Yeoman's
glad you're with us, and gentlemen, it feels like the
draft just did a couple hours ago. Still recovering, specifically,

(01:14):
the voice is still recovering a little bit after a
long weekend of radio. I know you guys are just
chomping at the bit. Nick watched two guys on his
way here to get ready for the twenty twenty seven
draft class. And you think I'm joking, I'm actually not.
He actually did that right.

Speaker 6 (01:28):
I just wanted to see Dylan Stewart and Colin Simmons.
I wanted to get an early opinion on which one
I liked him?

Speaker 5 (01:32):
Oh, which one you like?

Speaker 7 (01:33):
I love Dylan Stewart.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
They're both in.

Speaker 6 (01:35):
They're both dudes. I have Simmons with the edge right now.
We're gonna have a funn year next year.

Speaker 8 (01:40):
Bobby's been on Dylan Stewart for like two years now.

Speaker 7 (01:43):
Dylan Stewart can do all the band celebrations he wants
as long as he rushes the pass.

Speaker 9 (01:48):
He's the freaking man.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
I love them both, especially Yeah, you didn't give a
school on either one of them.

Speaker 6 (01:52):
Though, Colin Simmons Texas. Yeah, I'm a little rusty on
South Carolina for Dylan Stewart. I'll tell you what though,
this twenty twenty seven draft, I don't want to get
too far ahead of our skis here.

Speaker 9 (02:01):
It's gonna be damn fun. You know, we talked about
you better at the top. Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (02:05):
We talked about this year like twelve to fifteen first
round grades with most teams last year. I think it
was around the same range twelve to sixteen. Next year,
I would be shocked if we don't get to twenty
twenty two. Yeah, for for most teams, and it very
well could reach twenty five.

Speaker 9 (02:17):
It just kind of depends.

Speaker 6 (02:18):
Also, Kelly Jones Corner from Missippi State, I saw a
little bit. I don't want to say that I necessarily
watch him because I still got more to do there.

Speaker 9 (02:24):
That was a fun, little fun little guy too.

Speaker 7 (02:25):
I'd say it was a little guy I brought us
on in the first.

Speaker 9 (02:29):
I know he's not a little guy.

Speaker 7 (02:31):
He's like brought us as in the fourth. Then, yeah, have.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
You guys made up yet?

Speaker 7 (02:34):
No?

Speaker 4 (02:34):
No, what a weekend and I mean we had a
ton of fun over the timeline there. I know, Voch,
you wore the sport code all three days and then
you pull out, in my opinion, my favorite one that
you've had all week.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
My man, hey man, you know, you know, you know
we have to wear the polos Friday and Saturday. You
know what I'm saying. I think that like around draft time,
that's where we get the most views, the most eyes.
You know what I'm saying. You know, I wanted to
just do my thing a little bit, you know. So
today I got something else for tomorrow and is right
back to white teas and hoodies.

Speaker 10 (03:10):
You know.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
There you go. I'm shocked you you had the one
for today too, You got one for us.

Speaker 9 (03:18):
It's not for not for.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
The break I got. I got two weeks work. I
got something I got someone never wore before them away
for the break tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
Just wait until we start recruiting you. The Cowboys pregame line.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
And I need have to really I need put me.
I need more bread for that. I appreciate y'all either
considering me. I would need a raise for that to happen.
You feel me. I mean, these guys at the table, y'all,
y'all some sickos talking about twenty twenty seven. You still
got Jordan Hudson and d J. Rogers and Kelvin Gilliam
to talk about, y'all. Trip we don't talk about Das

(03:47):
ain't saying, but even have to say, let's get into
him saying, but we even again into the twenty seven
guys like, come on, man, to.

Speaker 7 (03:54):
Be fair, I've not actually like studied Dylan Stewart, yet
he was just so dominant as a fresh that other
people were studied.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
I was like, who's that.

Speaker 7 (04:02):
It was like, oh, okay, that's the guy who's whooping
feet or what did How did you say it, Tommy.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
Tommy, I said the same thing, whooping feet.

Speaker 7 (04:10):
He said it the same way that I did.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
But I'm the one who got clown for it. So
it's true. It's true.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Uh, let's review the Cowboys draft class and what they
brought to the table. I mean, for the for the
most part, we talked heavily during the coverage about Caleb
Downs and and the situation that allowed him to fall.
Now that you've had the chance to kind of think
on it a little bit, Tommy, has your opinion changed
at all of how the teams won through ten, drafted

(04:36):
and let Caleb Downs fall outside of the top ten?

Speaker 8 (04:39):
Uh? Not necessarily, you know, I don't know if there's
I think Arizona three, you questioned if running back is
what they really needed, but I think Love still would
have gone top ten regardless. Tennessee is Tape the person
they needed. You know, arval Reese is sitting right there
for you. I think that could have made sense.

Speaker 5 (04:57):
And everybody, you.

Speaker 8 (04:58):
Know, we talked a lot about the Giants and and Malnoa.
I mean, Malnoa was like my third or fourth best
player on the board, So I don't necessarily deem that
as a poor selection. I think it's just something where
when you were rebuilding a roster like John Harball is
essentially doing you need help on the offensive line. He's
a guy that if it works to tackle great, If not,

(05:18):
he could be a really good guard, and he might
be an All Pro guard if he reaches his potential.
So I don't know if anything necessarily changed for me
over the week in the sense of like, wow, I
can't believe they let Caleb down slip to it. I
thought it was always a possibility, and I think Dallas
did the right thing by moving up to eleven to
make sure that they got him.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Bobby, you had talked about how Harball wanted to get
bigger in the trenches.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
So not a surprise.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
I mean, even whenever the pick started to roll through
and we got to pick seven, eight, nine, it felt
like Spencer Fano nine to the Browns and then Francis
Malanoa to the Giants. Ten was pretty much etched in stone.

Speaker 7 (05:57):
When there was a consensus thought that Reese and Bailey
were going two and three just whatever order it was
going to be. Then, as much as we were trying
to figure out right, what's going to go on with
the Giants, and everybody kept saying Sunny Styles five or
you know, could be Caleb Downs or whoever else, the
consistent thing I kept hearing from a lot of people
was that before they got that second pick, was like,

(06:17):
if they're at five and there's no reascent Builia, they're
taking Mount Noah. And so I think once it kind
of shifted and they had the two picks, they got
a little more strategic with it. But I mean, Maloa
made a ton of sense for them. It's just I yeah,
I imagine if you're a Giants fan, which you can
go find on TikTok, Twitter wherever else, just like various
videos of Giants fans melting down when they pass on downs.

(06:39):
But I think the thing that hurts most about it is,
you know, you said you could use a lot of
things that were highly great players. If Downs and styles
are on the board for the Cowboys and they take
styles who everybody likes, but maybe they like Townslid more
and you let downs, then go to Philly with the
next pick. People are melting down just on the context
of I wanted that guy more and you let the
other team get him. The Giants are going to regret

(07:01):
as much as I think the like having for Instanmunta,
I think they are going to regret letting the Cowboys
get Caleb Downs.

Speaker 5 (07:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (07:05):
I think if you're looking at that first round and
seeing how it fell, everybody should be praying and thanking
the Tennessee Titans for taking Carnell Tate a pick number four,
because had they taken Rvl Reese, I'm fairly confident that
they would have taken either Downs at five or at
ten and probably swapped you know what, swapped him out
basically for Reese. So I think the Tennessee Titans, and

(07:26):
every time Carnell Taate does something for the Tennessee Titans,
Cowboys fans better cheer because that's that's the reason Caleb
Downs is wearing a Cowboys uniform today.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Teams suck at drafting. Teams like a drafting I don't
want to And and you know what, it was really
cool to hear Brian brought to say it, like, hey,
he says, you know, guys, teams really suck at drafting.
I was like, yeah, Brian, they do. And and you
know the whole league now you know ten teams they
let you, they let you get Caleb Downs, they let
Caleb Downs get right to you. And you know, the
league really proved that they suck at drafting later later

(07:54):
in the draft as well, with some of the stuff
they had going on. I know the Broncos kind of
got caught out about it. You know, the Ford and
nine as I mean, and you know Jacksonville, they're notoriously
getting dragged right now. But for all the players that
the Cowboys got that we liked, it only happened because
some other team didn't didn't take them. So I'm grateful.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
When you look at the the depth chart, now that's
kind of what everybody's trying to piece together because I
don't know if it's finalized from a Dallas standpoint, even
where do those guys fit. Of course, Caleb Downs, we
kind of know where he's going to be. He's your nickel,
he's your safety, He's going to bounce back and forth.
I've heard a little of criticism from the Malachi Lawrence

(08:35):
pick because he's not going to start for you quote
unquote immediately. Is that a problem for you at twenty
three or where that's ending up?

Speaker 5 (08:44):
Depending what what the what's the depth chart will look for?

Speaker 7 (08:47):
What are we are we looking at Nickel? Are we
looking at base like like what you look? What are
we talking about?

Speaker 10 (08:52):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (08:52):
Yeah, either one.

Speaker 7 (08:53):
So I think like that if you're just talking to
you're just if you're going to talk about Nickel. I
would imagine their look on Nickel is going to be
Quentin and Kenny on the interior, Gary and Azeraku at
the edges. The linebackers today as of today would probably
be Overshown and d Winners probably, And then you're looking
at I would guess everybody healthy, Revel Bland outside downs

(09:18):
in the Nickel, Thompson and Hooker at safety. But I
think there's gonna be so much rotation and so much
you know, so many various different situations where they're trying
to disguise looks or be flexible, or where they'll have
a situation where they've got a DPR out there, who
in that instance will probably be Malachi Lawrence. I think
everybody's gonna get enough rotation here that it's they're gonna

(09:42):
get meaningful snaps even if they're not starting.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Kyle, I'm glad you said this this this time, might
be saying all the time, Bro, I think it is
actually a good thing when rookies don't start for you,
because if you draft somebody at twenty third overall and
they're automatically better than who you had on your roster,
your rostera was sucking, you know what I mean. So
you can look at Malakyle Lawrence like, Okay, he's a
first round pick. He should be starting. If Donvinezeraku is

(10:06):
better than him, and if Rashaan Gary is better than him,
then that means you got three dudes that you can
trust for real, you know what I'm saying. I just
don't want to live in this world where just the
rookie just comes in. Like if Devin Moore is your
best corner right now, that's bigger problems, you know what
I'm saying. So if you're a Cowboy fan, don't be
upset that Madlakyle Lawrence probably won't start. Malacky Lawrence is
going to play a bunch, He's going to rotate a lot,

(10:27):
But just say that, Okay, Well, I feel so good
about Donvinezeraku and Gary that they'll be better than him
right now, that malaky Lawrence just can't take their job
right now. I think that's cool.

Speaker 7 (10:36):
I also think it's important to remember, even in the
instances where guys are more talented consistently, this team and
most others across the league generally will pay deference to
a veteran, and it's like, you're gonna have to take
the job Tyler Smith. If Tyring Smith doesn't get hurt
in training camp a couple years ago, Tyler Smith is
not on the field immediately, agreed. I know there was

(10:56):
a disagreement about it at the time. Tyler Geyiton was
not going to start immediately he got hurt, and so
there was never an answer about it right away. But
he was not going to start right away if that
had happened. So you've got that in front of him
that year. I can't remember who it was that it
was Chumaydoga, Yeah, Tuma or Tuma had gotten hurt as
what it was Ya Tchuma had not gotten hurt. Tuma
was starting that year and a lot of people would

(11:17):
have gone, well, this is where but that's the They
generally give deference to a veteran and say earn your spot.
You got to really show us we can trust you.
So I mean, it's more so stunning that we're penciling
downs and as a starter than I think it is
that they're not penciling Lawrence in because and that just
speaks to how comfortable they are with his football IQ
and how ready he is to compete at the NFL level.

Speaker 6 (11:39):
And I will say it's also important to remember that
Donovan as Rock, who might not be healthy when camp
rolls around. He's got the hip abram that he's coming
off of. And you know, if that, you know, carries
into training camp and it becomes a bigger issue than Hey,
you have Malachi Lawrence who's more than capable to be
ready to go when the season comes around. So he
very well could find himself in a starting job week one.
But I personally I like his role if it sits

(12:01):
how it is and Ezirakuho's healthy. I do like that
role of him coming in on passing downs, him developing
in the run game because I would rather see him
fresh on passing downs to just pin his years back
and go get the damn quarterback. You know, on those
penny fronts that they talk about where they're gonna have
five up front. I think Ross Winschi was talking about
it in here on Saturday. Malachi Lawrence, Rashaan Gary, Donovan Azeraku,

(12:22):
Quin Williams, and Kenny Clark. If that's your five man front, Damn,
you got a pretty good five man front right there,
and that's gonna be tough for opposing offensive lines. And
so I think that's probably more the idea with Malachi Lawrence.
And then you know, as time goes along, Rashaun Gary's
not gonna be here forever, and then he probably steps
into that role when Gary moves on.

Speaker 8 (12:38):
I think you guys hit it all on the head.
I don't think you're necessarily expecting Malachi Lawrence to come
in here and be Michael Parsons. I think he's expected
to come in here and play significant snaps, and as
that time goes along, I think you're gonna see him
get better. When we talked about him on the show,
it was all about, Hey, this guy's best football is
still in front of him, Like he's still going to
have to grow, and now it's on your coaching staff

(13:00):
and Chadero, Uzo de Rebay and those guys to you know,
go out and prove that they can develop these guys.

Speaker 5 (13:05):
I think that's where you know.

Speaker 8 (13:07):
Tadeo Uzo Deibe was probably one of the more large
scale position coaching hires that Dallas had this offseason because
Georgia did not want to let go of this guy.
And you look at obviously, you look at the track
record Jalen Walker and Mikail Williams and just all the
freak show demons that they've had at Georgia over the
last however many years that he's been there. And so
now can you translate that to the NFL level with

(13:28):
these guys. He's shown that he can do it at college,
but can you make it translate in the league. And
so whatever role Malachi Lawrence is in, he's going to
play significant snaps, and ultimately I think that's better for
him and it's better for this defense.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
I want to run down the draft class for those
that haven't seen it or maybe just have forgotten some
of the names along the way and where they were taken.
But in the first round, Cowboys, of course take Caleb Downs,
Ohio State safety at eleven, Malachi Lawrence out of UCF
at drusher at pick number twenty three in the third
round at ninety two. Jay Sean Barham, the the Michigan

(14:00):
edge rusher linebacker. They're going to play him at that
inside linebacker spot. In the third round. Fourth round, they
had three picks.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
One twelve.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
They take Drew Shelton, the offensive tackle from Penn State,
Devin Moore at one fourteen, the corner from Florida, LT Overton,
the Alabama edge rusher at one thirty seven. He's probably
gonna play a little bit more inside for Dallas. And
then Anthony Smith was the final pick of the weekend,
a wide receiver out of East Carolina in the seventh
round at two eighteen. Out of those names, which one

(14:29):
sticks out to you? Not in the first round? Which
one sticks out? And where do you feel like the
best fit out of the rest of the names. Those
five last names are for Dallas like value, yeah, value,
or just scheme fit.

Speaker 7 (14:42):
I mean, I really really love the Overton pick. As
late as it was to get him, I think he was.
There was so much buzz initially last year about Overton
being like, oh, he's going to be a top like
first round, like big time talent. Season didn't go that way,
and then he was you know, generally thought of as
like a third round pick, but I think because of
the initial expectations and where he ended up, it became

(15:03):
a little trendy, or it became a little common to
just have kind of a natural negative feeling towards him
as a prospect. But if you were able to get
him almost at the start of the fifth round as
a player who I think is comfortably a third round player,
can come in here and play with NFL level power, immediately,
play well against the run, and do whatever you need

(15:24):
him to do in terms of those four technique five
technique looks. I think that that's huge to be able
to have that. I think that Overton by the end
of the season will probably be competing for a starting role.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
And that's the interesting side of things, is seeing where
he fell, like what allowed him to fall?

Speaker 5 (15:44):
Why was he there at the back half.

Speaker 7 (15:46):
Tweener like not a natural in a lot of places,
But given what this team wants and how he's going
to play defensive line here, I think that's actually a benefit.
That's sort of it's however you want to term it.
A lot of times you'll turn it as like, oh,
he's tweeter, or if you like him. You'll probably term
it as like he's flexible and he can do different things,
and like you know, he's multiple. So it's just a

(16:07):
matter of like how do you look to apply it
and how you need a fit. And so I think
for what Dallas is going to do and what Christian
Parker needs him to do, he's a really good fit.

Speaker 6 (16:17):
There are a handful of players every draft cycle who
show physical flexibility during the process. Lt Overton was won
this year. For example, at the Combine, he came in
he weighed in at two seventy five. At his prote
he came in and weighed in at two eighty seven.
That's basically telling teams, hey, I can bulk up and
play two ninety and play you know tech.

Speaker 9 (16:36):
Yeah, he got back to tell lose arm stuff.

Speaker 6 (16:40):
And that could also show hey, I can get down
to two seventy five and if you want to put
me at five tech, you know, closer to the tackle,
then I can do that as well.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
And so.

Speaker 6 (16:49):
They have to have a clear vision for lt Overton,
and I think that they do, or they wouldn't have
taken him. But it's going to be a fascinating situation
to see how him and Otito Abonia kind of rotate
throughout their and which one of them ends up getting
more snaps as time goes along.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
I'm not gonna lie I wasn't the biggest fan to pick,
and I think it was just off the film, Like
it wasn't about him being tweeners, because damn near everybody
that you drafted played multiple spots. You know. I just
didn't think that the film added up. And mostly what
I was I don't want to say what I was
upset about, but I just had players on the board
that I just personally liked a little bit more than him.
If the Cowboys would have taken him in, you know,

(17:25):
like a later round, if he was there, then fine,
knock yourself out. But just the film, I didn't walk
away thrill. And honestly, is he gonna play over Bullard
or is he gonna play over O t O Old Banya?
I wouldn't assume. So, you know what I'm saying. By
the end of the year, knock I player. I just
don't necessarily agree with that one. I do think Overten

(17:45):
can be strong sometimes I think if his technique lets
him down, then all that power kind of goes away
a little bit. It sounded like he thinks he's gonna
play a little edge. I think I think four eyes
where he's gonna be at, and I think that's where
he's gonna be for the most of the time. And uh,
you know, and I think that this team is gonna
play a lot more nickel than they're gonna play a bass.
So I don't know how much he gets on the
field right now. So hey man, I hope it all

(18:05):
works out. I understand the thinking like he's your future
for I do knock yourself out. But my whole thing was,
you know, I probably would have just rather somebody else
in that spot you.

Speaker 4 (18:15):
Talked about the film, not stacking up to the spot.
I get the strength element and I get the play
temperament element, because there are a couple times where in
film he doesn't show that even though I think he
is NFL strong, he just kind.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
Of lets off a play and it doesn't look great.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
What else says this is not available or this is
not a guy I feel comfortable with at the back
out of the fourth round, because at some point they
are all of them on day three, All of the
prospects on Day three have something of a knock against them. Yeah,
why was his so severe that even in the back
half of the fourth round you're not comfortable making that pick.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
So with the Cowboys, kind of if they're picking their
guy and this is who they want, to knock yourself out.
But my personal opinion, right, somebody that I would have
rather have had it. Man Tyreek sat was on the board.
I thought he did the job a little bit drafted.
He went undrafted. I thought that was a little bit strange,
you know what I'm saying. Just other guys on defense
that I liked more. I think VJ. Pain was on
the board and I just liked him a little more. Fitzgerald,

(19:12):
I liked him a lot as a safety, just a
little bit more. So. It was just certain names. I'm
like a dog. I thought the Cowboys had had an
opportunity and they got who they wanted. I'm just YouTube guy. Look,
I don't know nothing. They got who they like. I
thought with the Overton and the Shelton pick, honestly, I
thought that that there were just better dudes that projected
be better in a long run in my personal opinion.

(19:34):
But what I gralled, Yeah, he was in the extra
So on my board, It's like in a sixth or something.

Speaker 5 (19:41):
So was it the strength, Like, was that just the biggest.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
No, I didn't think that he did a good job
putting all the film together, you know what I'm saying.
I thought that he was strong. Sometimes I thought I
thought that he could get pushed in the past rust.
Sometimes I just didn't see it consistently. Sometimes his motor
is good. Sometimes I catch him jogging a little bit,
uh there, Like I kind of wanted him to be
run game aware just a little bit more. Yeah, you
can kind of wrestle somebody in front of you, but

(20:05):
if you're being down blocked, you need to get on
the other side of that block. If you're being reached
block need to work outside. There were many times I
just kind of saw him wrestling a little bit and
his strength just didn't translate into the film. Very good
for me, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
No, that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
He could not look he could end up being great
and I'll come up here and like, boy, I was
show wrong about lt Overton boy and he is NFL strong.
But Mazie was strong as hell too. But it's different
because you taking you know, you taking one guy in
the fourth over whatever whatever, it's totally different. I agree,
but there were just some names on the board for
me personally, and the Cowboys ain't me that I would

(20:39):
have been like, damn boy, I wish we'd throw a
dart on that guy and thrown a dart on this
particular guy.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
We'll come back to the conversation of some of these
later round picks and then even some of the undrafted
free agents in segment number three. But I do want
to get to Twitter on the twenty It's our last
one of the year. We've got some questions filing in
here for the NFL Draft and twenty twenty six class,

D one of my favorite events of the year. Nick,
are you hitting in it this year?

Speaker 9 (23:47):
I'm not some they didn't. No, no, no, it's not
that I finally got on the list this year.

Speaker 7 (23:52):
And there a list.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
There is a list.

Speaker 9 (23:54):
There is a list.

Speaker 6 (23:55):
It's it's because I got left off of it last year.
I know you had to put your name on a list.
I thought you just show up with a best and swing.
But yeah, yeah, I was pissed.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
I didn't know until the day of I showed up
anywhere with a bit swinging in anything.

Speaker 9 (24:10):
And so this year I'm like, there's a list.

Speaker 6 (24:14):
This year, I'm like, man, I'm gonna be ready and
be ready to go. I'm taking a mile to Crown
And yeah, they scheduled it on a day that I'm
out of town.

Speaker 5 (24:20):
I'm like, ye, same here. I cust wait year out too. Yeah,
I'm not there. Who's batting for us?

Speaker 11 (24:27):
You do not?

Speaker 6 (24:27):
Congratulations Tommy, congratulations.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Get in the.

Speaker 5 (24:30):
Batter's box, man.

Speaker 4 (24:32):
I've had three straight second place finished finish, high expectations.

Speaker 8 (24:37):
If I'm hitting, we are making no money. I'm apologizing
in advance. I'm not hitting a single home run, man.

Speaker 6 (24:42):
But yeah, for the Mississippi welfare program under Brett Faar.

Speaker 9 (24:45):
Famous, what he's going to be?

Speaker 2 (24:47):
Oh tom.

Speaker 9 (24:50):
Swinging Tommy charity.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
So all right, let's let's get into our final edition
of the twenty twenty six NFL Draft with some Twitter.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Actually, Kyle, we have a lot of questions, I'm sure,
but can ask a questions.

Speaker 9 (25:07):
I appreciate that, Bud.

Speaker 6 (25:09):
Okay, so we might have some supplemental draft drama this offseason.
If anybody didn't catch yesterday, Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sowersby
got announced that he was caught gambling in his freshman
year at Indiana, and if it goes toward NCAA president,
he will be ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAAA, which
likely means that we are going to have an NFL

(25:31):
supplemental draft this summer with Brendan Soresby as the head
target or as the league primary.

Speaker 9 (25:38):
Yeah, situation is possible next year, yes.

Speaker 6 (25:41):
And so I'm curious of a everyone's thoughts on Brendon
Sowersby and then b you know how that factors into
a potential supplemental draft situation. Oddly enough, the last notable
supplemental draft player that I can think of was Jalen
Thompson because he was ruled ineligible late in his time
after transferring to uh was what was it Someone helped

(26:02):
me here Washington State?

Speaker 5 (26:05):
Yes, I can't remember where.

Speaker 6 (26:07):
Regardless he had he had found out that he had
lost all his eligibility after the draft had already happened.
He entered the supplemental draft ended up getting selected by
the Cardinals had a great career. So Brendan Soresby, this
is gonna be It's gonna be a fascinating one about
you know how it factors in with the NFL.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
How does the draft, I guess, the draft order for
that start to get selected. What's the process that goes
into that?

Speaker 7 (26:31):
Do you know, Bobby, sorry, say it again?

Speaker 4 (26:33):
For a supplemental draft, how does it? How does that
order begin to take shape?

Speaker 6 (26:40):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (26:40):
So, I can't. This is the supplemental draft has become
so inconsistent, has become so inconsistently used as a tool.
It used to be used a lot more frequently, but
it's become so inconsistently used. Like I always forget how
they even like set that up.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
It's a whole.

Speaker 7 (26:54):
I think the way it typically goes is it's almost
like a because again it's it's been so I think
it's like almost like a bidding like of where you're
willing to put up certain capital and then what you
end up sacrificed. Okay, hate draft?

Speaker 9 (27:05):
Here we go.

Speaker 6 (27:06):
So like a prior to a supplemental draft, teams will
submit blind bids. So like let's say Brendan Soarsby's in
the mix. Right, then if you are the New York
Jets and you need a quarterback, then you could submit
a bid that's like, hey, we'll submit a third round
bid in this supplemental draft for Brendan Soarsby, And if
they end up being the highest bidder, then they take

(27:27):
Brendan Soorsby and they lose a third round pick next year.

Speaker 5 (27:30):
So wow, and that just goes to the league.

Speaker 4 (27:32):
That doesn't go to anybody else, right, I guess it's
just a forfeited pick.

Speaker 6 (27:36):
Yeah, correct, And so it's generally held in July, and
it hasn't been held in a few years. So I mean,
this is gonna be It's gonna be incredibly unique if
Brendon Soarsby ends up in a supplemental draft situation.

Speaker 9 (27:48):
Because also, man, I caught.

Speaker 6 (27:50):
Brendan Soorsby at the Texas Tech Pro Day not the
biggest guy in the world, Like physically, I was a
little underwhelmed, Like he's probably six foot and a half
one hundred and ninety's. I don't know what his NFL
projection would necessarily look like. You're you're coming off the
Cincinnati tape from last year, which was good, don't get
me wrong. It got him the bag at Texas Tech
that he might have to get back and he already

(28:12):
get okay, yeah, yeah, he get I almost said gave
it to WinStar exactly. There there it was, there was
But nevertheless, it's it's gonna be interesting to see how
this is, this is handled.

Speaker 7 (28:23):
I so, I mean, I have not like studied studied him,
So I'm just going based off of trying to remember
how he looked when there were instances of him on
tape or like just watching him in games last year.
Sowarsby has not stood out to me as a guy
that like I've been super high on. I don't get
the top ten smaller, smaller guy. I don't think he's
always super accurate. It feels like there are times where,

(28:45):
especially stuff like moving targets in the middle of the field.
I just remember feeling like he was off target a lot.
And so I mean, I know the numbers look good,
but without doing a deep dive, I just remember my
cursory look at him was like I would not he
didn't pop to me. He's like, oh, that's going to
be an NFL Like that's an NFL quarterback right there.

Speaker 6 (29:01):
I think is a fine college quarterback that you would
rightfully give an nil back to just try to come
in and elevate the floor of your program, which is
what Texas Tech did. I think it would have made
them more of a playoff contender than Baron Morton did
last year.

Speaker 9 (29:13):
But uh yeah, I don't. I don't know.

Speaker 6 (29:16):
If it were me and I needed a quarterback, I'm
a quarterback needy team. I'm maybe putting a fifth or
sixth round bid in and if I don't get them,
so be it.

Speaker 8 (29:22):
I was gonna say a fifth is probably the most.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
I fear the Jets or the.

Speaker 8 (29:26):
Cardinals or something like that, that you need a quarterback
that would be at most what I would give.

Speaker 9 (29:31):
For the Rams.

Speaker 4 (29:32):
So what I'm hearing is we need to meet with them. Yeah,
we need to continue doing draft shows twice a week
up until July.

Speaker 5 (29:39):
Supplemental Draft.

Speaker 7 (29:39):
You have a supplemental draft show.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
I think that's what I'm draft show.

Speaker 8 (29:44):
Every episode would just break down just a single play, alright.

Speaker 5 (29:53):
All right.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
Jamie Morris wants to know our expectations too high on
Caleb Downs.

Speaker 9 (29:58):
I don't think so. No, I don't thinky're high enough.

Speaker 6 (30:01):
Wow, Yeah, I think he's going to be such an
important piece of this defense. Next year, I think you're
gonna look back at the end of the year and
he's gonna have probably the second biggest impact of anyone
in the defense.

Speaker 7 (30:12):
It's a it's a nuanced definition, like it's a little broad.
Like me think, like our expectations too high? Too high for?

Speaker 11 (30:18):
What?

Speaker 7 (30:19):
Are they too high for? Like the pressure that it's
gonna put on Caleb Downs and his ability to deal
with that. Are they too high in terms of like
are we overrating what he can be? Are they too
high in terms of the demand of how quickly he
can get there?

Speaker 2 (30:30):
All of that?

Speaker 7 (30:30):
I would say no, I don't think we're overrating him.
I think he's mentally prepared to deal with whatever pressure
comes with it, and I think he can do it
in a rapid fashion.

Speaker 8 (30:38):
Well, my question to that would be, and I always
ask this when these kinds of questions come up, is
what is the expectation for Caleb Downs?

Speaker 2 (30:46):
You're one?

Speaker 7 (30:46):
Is it?

Speaker 8 (30:47):
He has to be a pro bowler, He's got to
be an all pro I don't think so. I mean,
I just think you need a guy that you can say, hey,
when he is on the field, he is having a
significant impact on defense, he makes your defense better like that,
that's that would be my expick.

Speaker 7 (31:00):
He doesn't have to be a pro bowler. I think
he can be.

Speaker 8 (31:02):
He can be, sure, But I don't know if it's
fair to say, Okay, year one, you have to be
a pro bowler or else this season is a failure
quote unquote. I think if he goes out and he
puts on good tape and he shows you that he
can elevate what your defense was, which is a low bar.
But if it's if he's having a significant impact on
the field, then you're looking at it, you know, a
successful pick.

Speaker 7 (31:21):
He's I think he's going to be one of their
better defensive players. Sure, if not, like I mean, he'll
be right at the top of to me around Quinn
or those other guys as their best defensive players.

Speaker 8 (31:31):
But if you're if you're saying, like, do you think
it would be fair to say, okay, Kale Down's expectations
he wins Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Speaker 7 (31:39):
No, probably not, because I also don't know that it's
gonna look. I don't know that his impact is going
to look statistically funny.

Speaker 5 (31:44):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (31:45):
Unless he has like three or four picks and like something.

Speaker 7 (31:48):
Yeah, I think I think the reflection of his contribution
will be seen in Dallas as raw numbers more than
his own.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Can he cover better than Donovy Wool's Yeah, so that's
that's that's that's where we are, right.

Speaker 7 (31:58):
He can cover better than most of the corner.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
That's where we at.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
Nick, you said second largest impact on the defensive side
this year for Caleb Downs, Who's number one?

Speaker 6 (32:07):
Pack your pass rusher that gives you the biggest impacts.
I don't know who that is, but pick your favorite
pass rushing.

Speaker 5 (32:12):
I just didn't know if you had anybody specificates.

Speaker 6 (32:13):
Not necessarily, it could be Jalen Thompson, Williams, could be Quinn.

Speaker 5 (32:17):
Yeah, that's probably Quinn.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (32:20):
Smalls wants to know.

Speaker 4 (32:21):
Do you think anybody on this roster has already lost
their job to one of these rookies?

Speaker 2 (32:26):
Watch man? I know that you know Rady stool was
was getting a little bit of steam after the season.
Boy that's gone. Uh, I mean you say it saying
about Weezy too. Uh, the whole defense, the whole secondary
probably you know, I mean, Elite is the last alive
out of that thing.

Speaker 9 (32:45):
Bland more southern revel.

Speaker 5 (32:49):
The other way around.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
If you gotta show me daddy's healthy or whatever. But
I think I think every I think I think Kobe
Durant got one of them, got one of them on
notice or whatever. So I don't think nobody's safe out here.

Speaker 7 (32:59):
Of course, my job or we're just talking rookies, Yeah,
who have replaced it because Kobe Durant, like if that's
a new addition. But out of the rookies, I think
Downs is the only one who immediately is replacing a start,
and that's only in base because of Nicol. I think
Hooker's still out there.

Speaker 6 (33:11):
I don't think that Drew Shelton is necessarily replacing Tyler Goyton.
But I think Tyler Goton needs to be more on
watch then he was going into the draft.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
I don't think Tyler's gonna lose a bit of sleep
over Drew. I think Drew is a Nate conversation. I
don't don't.

Speaker 9 (33:25):
I don't think I think they're all the same conversation.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
Man, I'm just Guiden hasn't shown me anything. Yeah, I'm
with you feel that way in that way, boy Drew,
whatever he if Drew did something crazy in the off season.
That'll that'll make it like that. Boy. I know he's
working with Duke. I watched Season whatever it is, episode
three on Duke's YouTube channel, and Drew Sheldon's working with him.
And he put on some weight. He like three or

(33:49):
old nine now he was he was small in college.
He gots you know, he and he's been in the
weight room. So if Drew Sheldon can somehow, you know,
turn whatever his the last thing that we saw on
film into something that can compete with out of Just
to be clear, ain't no favorites on his team. If
Drew shows up and he wins the left tackle spot
here here we got a fourth round pick that won
the left tackle spot, well, I'll be happy for him.

(34:09):
I just don't see that. I just don't see that
being a metro for real, Rue.

Speaker 4 (34:13):
I don't think Drew Shelton is a twenty twenty sixth thing.
I think Drew Shelton is a twenty twenty seven or
twenty twenty eight things. Fair that's my thought anyway. I like,
and I said this on on the draft coverage. I
like Drew Shelton and I like the plan they have
for Drew Shelton. I don't necessarily think he's immediately going
to come in and challenge Geydon, even though I don't
disagree with Nick. Everyone's on display, everybody's on review, especially

(34:35):
at the tackle spots.

Speaker 5 (34:36):
It just depends on who's gonna fit in in each
of those situations.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
I think it's going to take injury or falling off
of Lias for getting to lose his job Lifteck and.

Speaker 5 (34:43):
He hasn't been a bit he injured unfortunately over the
last few years.

Speaker 7 (34:46):
And that's why I think it is and I agree
with they may it may be opened up. I don't
even if you open it up to a competition for
those three, I just don't see Gaydon losing that. I
don't know those two right now.

Speaker 6 (34:59):
I think if you're looking at bottom the depth chart stuff,
if I'm Meresley a foul Sam Williams Dalen Carson, maybe
not as much when I'm throwing him in the conversation, Uh,
Shamar James, who's Jonathan Mingo?

Speaker 2 (35:12):
Has played a bunch and uh yeah.

Speaker 9 (35:15):
I'm on job watch, I'm on roster watch.

Speaker 7 (35:18):
Yeah. And we had Scott Simons in here, did y'all
when he was talking about the stuff he looks for
in linebacker. The first thought I have is, I wonder
if everything he just said as Shamar James.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
It's exactly Shamar James. I they I feel like there's
going to be a time where we're looking at each
other in Oxnard or in week one of the preseason,
we're looking around and.

Speaker 5 (35:41):
Saying, man, Shamar James played a lot here.

Speaker 7 (35:44):
Again, the only thing he doesn't have if he's not
super long, But like he was talking about length is
like the third that he's not a super long player.
But I mean a lot of the other stuff that
he talked about he wanted. There's a lot there with
Shamar James.

Speaker 4 (35:54):
I think he's got more length than maybe some of
the other linebackers on your roster, though.

Speaker 7 (35:58):
Not more than the ones that were here, not more
than over shown or Baron.

Speaker 5 (36:02):
Yeah, you're probably right.

Speaker 7 (36:03):
So if Shamar James over shown for sure, over and
Baron's wingspan, his wings fans larger.

Speaker 9 (36:09):
If Shamar James was drafted in this draft class I
he would be the second youngest player so like as
of today, So he's still young.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
Yeah, that young.

Speaker 6 (36:19):
He's younger than he is, younger than the rest of
the draft class except Caleb Downs.

Speaker 8 (36:23):
Interesting he was second on this team and tackles last year.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Yes, he was.

Speaker 7 (36:28):
He's like six years younger than Brian's hold board too.

Speaker 4 (36:32):
Mike wants to know where would you stack Anthony Smith,
a wide receiver from East Carolina right now on the
Cowboys depth chart with holding, Hudson Brown, Marquez Valdez, Scantling Johnson.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
He's kind of good.

Speaker 7 (36:51):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
I don't know. I don't know why they don't throw
the ball to him more. But he's either because he
don't always go to the ground. He don't get tackled
the it's like everybody go out of bounds together, or
he runs past everybody.

Speaker 5 (37:04):
Or he's going down on his own. He's going down
to the ground.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Grab He's tall, but I don't think he's like big,
But they don't. The first tackler don't bring him down.
So he's a bit of a yet.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Watch that way, look, dude, I like the way he moves.

Speaker 7 (37:17):
He moves really well for a frame.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
And that's just wide receivers class. Like we all watched
what I probably watched twenty wide receivers, twenty five of them,
and I just didn't get the Anthony Smith, and I
just go back and watch Retroactal, like, hey, man, look
at this guy. Look at us. So if the Cowboys
want to make this day three wide receiver factory like
they did with Flow, and hey, Flow has stepped up
and become wide receiver three in this situation, I can

(37:41):
imagine there's a world where Anthony Smith continues to work
his way into that same kind of track or whatever.
But I like him a bunch. He's fun.

Speaker 7 (37:49):
I promise I'm not comparing them I promise I'm not
comparing them as players. I'm just saying the way they
move it does look frame wise similar movement to the
way that Tat moved at Arizona. I'm not saying they're
the same, but in terms of like, if you look
at the way that they like attack their routes, the
way that they cut, like, it looks very similar in
terms of their body movements. And so I like, I

(38:09):
liked him a lot. I would not say he's like,
oh my gosh, that's the guy you're taking the third
round or anything, but in the seventh is like, don't
fight for him in priority free agency. I'm all over it.
He's he's apparently when he was at NC State, he
was like a one of their top speed guys. He's
big frame. There were TI a couple times I saw that.
I was like, I don't know about the hands, like
failed him a couple of times that I saw, but

(38:31):
otherwise I really liked him.

Speaker 5 (38:32):
You have eight.

Speaker 6 (38:33):
Players competing for two spots at that at camp at
wide receiver, and only one of those is going to
get an active game day roster spot. So it's gonna
be it's gonna be high competition. And I'm factoring Jonathan
Mingo into that conversation as well. Sure so, Jonathan Mingo,
Marcus Voudez, Scantling, Anthony Smith, Tree, Shaun Hold and Tyler
Johnson came to Brown, Jordan Hudson and Paris Campbell.

Speaker 9 (38:51):
I'd be surprised for Campbells still around by then, But
that's gonna be. It's gonna be high competition.

Speaker 7 (38:56):
Prodest is glad you have Turpin firmly on there.

Speaker 9 (39:00):
Uh now we're just kidding out.

Speaker 7 (39:03):
I'm crossing three lags of traffic to do it now.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I kind
of wish Turpin gave me more as a receiver, so
I can feel great about Yeah, him kind of being
on this, you know what I mean?

Speaker 7 (39:15):
Like kind I got a question for you and Vio
for everybody because brought Us made mentioned this, I think
the other day. Is there any thought that you think
him as like like getting more action as a receiver,
like took away any from him as a return guy
last year, like his return his return game wasn't as great,
But like any of that do you think contribute because

(39:37):
of the extra action receiver.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
As a return game. And it's just my own personal opinion.
Nobody said this to me. This is just how I feel.
It looked like he was trying to save energy or
like not get hurt, is what it looked like. I
just remember him attacking much more like just returning to football.
I didn't see him attack as much this last year.
So I don't know what it is, but that might
be the case. You know, I could help that by

(39:59):
a smile because he.

Speaker 7 (40:00):
No, you said attack it and I'm just thinking, like, yeah,
he attacked when he would call fair catch cool.

Speaker 2 (40:06):
Twice in two weeks.

Speaker 9 (40:08):
Yeah that was bad.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
That was bad.

Speaker 9 (40:10):
I I you know, it could help.

Speaker 6 (40:11):
That is a dual returner system on kickoffs with Caleb
Downs on the other side.

Speaker 7 (40:16):
Hey, dude, a lot of people forget like what Caleb
Down has real Downs has a really good track record.

Speaker 5 (40:22):
I don't know if I want him getting hit, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (40:23):
I don't want no, But don't look up the Downs
highlights returning. He is a beast returning. He's electric.

Speaker 8 (40:30):
I think the biggest issue would turp In on special
steams last year. Yeah, was the blocking that they had
in front of him was so bad. Like that special
unit on kickoff returns was not good at all.

Speaker 7 (40:43):
He made He made bad decisions though.

Speaker 8 (40:46):
But but he's I would say that he's done that
in the past.

Speaker 7 (40:51):
I would not and I would not have him if
the if you have the returner lining up inside the twenty,
I would not have him doing it anymore. I I
think he made way too many just critical mental errors
back there, whether it be ball would hit at the
twenty and he'd let it bounce all the way and
then it's getting down at like the one. Pretty I
mean he was having issues judging the ball.

Speaker 8 (41:12):
I'm not saying that that wasn't the case, but that
again you have seen that in the past of them. Anyways,
I think before that in the years before that, you
would see that there were more lanes for him.

Speaker 5 (41:21):
To navigate through.

Speaker 8 (41:22):
I don't think that was there this past year.

Speaker 5 (41:24):
No, it was.

Speaker 8 (41:24):
I don't think their kickoff return unit was as good.
So again, the point you're making is correct. I'm not
saying that he hasn't had his own mishaps here and there,
but I think what was in front of him was
significantly different than what he's having.

Speaker 7 (41:36):
But I would also say that they they pay him
what they do because he's got four to two speed
and they expect him to outrun some of that.

Speaker 4 (41:43):
Sure, and remember Brian Chottenheimer was a big proponent of
his as the offensive coordinator. Thought they weren't getting enough
out of him under Mike McCarthy's system, and then once
he took over his head coach. That was one of
the expectations was that Turpin was going to play a
bigger role in the offense, and that never happened.

Speaker 5 (41:59):
He had a lot of dry never had it, and
that's fair. You got to hold onto the ball.

Speaker 9 (42:03):
Fourth was that was critical?

Speaker 5 (42:06):
All right?

Speaker 4 (42:07):
Final question of Twitter on the twenty here in twenty
twenty six, or at least for the twenty six draft class,
Jordan James wants.

Speaker 9 (42:14):
To know this is also a running back in Oregon.
Last year one it was.

Speaker 5 (42:18):
A running back.

Speaker 4 (42:18):
I think at some point Cowboys went Caleb Downs, Malachi Lawrence.

Speaker 5 (42:23):
We know that very well.

Speaker 4 (42:24):
At eleven and twenty three, would you personally have rather
another scenario in that that spot? The one that he
provided specifically was Reuben Bain Junior at twelve. Dylan Fiedeman
at twenty said, I'm happy either way, but I just
wanted to know if there's any other combination that's realistic
that they could well.

Speaker 7 (42:43):
And in that combination, you're saying goodbye to who in
the fourth round? Which were those picks on the fourth round?
It would be the last Overton to the friend Shelton
and Moore? Was it Shelton Moore more Overton? Yeah, I
think there would pick that you got from over Oh.
I see you're saying, so you're saying Lawrence, more Overton
and Downs as well. I mean, you're you're kind of

(43:04):
factor that.

Speaker 5 (43:05):
You would have those two fifth round pins.

Speaker 7 (43:06):
I wouldn't. I'm good. There's maybe somebody. Maybe I can't
remember who we were looking at there, maybe there's somebody
else to go like maybe I'd prefer him a little
bit at twenty three, but I not that I can remember.
I don't remember there being somebody that was like a
big blinking light.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
If Caleb Downs is your first pick, then I really
started to care, Liz about what happens after that, you
know what I'm saying. And I just wouldn't want to
sacrifice that. If the if the draft guys wanted to
really shine upon us is let Baine get to twenty.
And that didn't happen. So that didn't happen. I'm cool
with whatever, whatever.

Speaker 7 (43:35):
If you would have taken Baine at twelve, I would
have been more interested in the hood at twenty than
I would have seen him.

Speaker 4 (43:39):
And I agree with you and I think they they
probably would have said the same thing.

Speaker 2 (43:44):
What was that?

Speaker 5 (43:44):
I disagree?

Speaker 4 (43:45):
I know you disagree. You love seeing him in though,
fight for your guy, it's part of it.

Speaker 8 (43:49):
Like Bryance, I think he's a more complete player at
his position. I mean, like who does the best attacking
in the run game. Then of all the corners I
think think in this class.

Speaker 5 (44:01):
But now go ahead.

Speaker 2 (44:04):
Dalla's return to football. Oh my goodness, this dude. He's
a bad man back just go, just get out of here,
Just go.

Speaker 5 (44:17):
I'm sorry, continued Tommy.

Speaker 8 (44:19):
No, I mean I think that you know, Like like
I said, Hood is good and pressed man, he's good
when he comes down in attacks on the run game.

Speaker 5 (44:25):
But where did THEO mean end up?

Speaker 8 (44:28):
Twenty five Chicago?

Speaker 5 (44:29):
Oh that's unfortunate for the man. He's got to play
in Chicago.

Speaker 4 (44:33):
All right, when we come back here on the Draft Show.

Back with Vach Lombardi, Nick Harris, Tommy Yarish, Bobby Belt
with Chris Beam in the back of Kyle Yeomans. It's

(47:34):
our final segment of the Draft Show this draft season.
Appreciate all those that hung out with us all weekend
and laughed alongside Brian or excuse me, Bobby, tweeting from
Zach Walchuk's Twitter account.

Speaker 2 (47:48):
That was all zach Man.

Speaker 5 (47:50):
It was all zach my Man, actually Bobby.

Speaker 4 (47:53):
For Brian and Bobby getting into it a couple times
for Tommy saying well being feet whipping.

Speaker 7 (48:01):
Yeah, whipping whipping, whipping yeah. I want to be clear too,
by the way, because I'm certain I have not even
looked at the comments. I'm certain I love Brian, you guys,
Brian is like family to be literally, we're on the
same station together. That's my guy, and I like to
troll the ones I love. That's That's what I'm doing
to Brian.

Speaker 5 (48:20):
That's good. I'm glad that's the case.

Speaker 7 (48:22):
Brian does not love me, though I think I'm not
saying that. I'm saying I love him. I don't know
that it's reciprocated cultural.

Speaker 5 (48:30):
That's good.

Speaker 7 (48:31):
That's good.

Speaker 4 (48:31):
But now we we do appreciate all the support. I
said this to to somebody on X a couple of
weeks ago, But the work that we do and the
draft prep that we do would not be worth it
if you guys weren't there from a fan side of
things and listened and interacted and asked questions and had
some fun with us throughout. Whether you agree or you disagree,
that's part of the fun, and so we do appreciate

(48:53):
everybody that's tuned in and it's always a pleasure getting
to go through this whole process and traveling across the country.
If you're Tommy yarsh going to pro DA's or if
you're Bobby going to the Combine, Nick Harris.

Speaker 5 (49:04):
To the Senior Bowl, and all in between there it's
it's a lot of fun.

Speaker 4 (49:07):
But before we wrap things up here on this edition
of the Draft Show, I want to talk about some
of these Day three picks for Dallas and or excuse me,
I want to talk about some of these undrafted free agents.

Speaker 5 (49:20):
We talked a little bit about the Day three picks.

Speaker 4 (49:22):
Anybody from that undrafted free agent class really stick out.

Speaker 8 (49:25):
Michael Trigg tight end Baylor.

Speaker 5 (49:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (49:29):
If he stays on the field and he's you know, participating,
that's going to be that has the potential to be
really fun. He's six four two and forty pounds. You
watch the highlight tape. He's a big target. He can
make some ridiculous catches. He's great in contested situations. He'll
just go out and pluck the ball out of the
air with one hand. Here's the example of it pour

(49:50):
number twenty eight for Auburn. There just not big enough.
And then this is where that frame comes in mind.
You know he can punch through get those couple extra yards.
The athleticism is what is really intriguing to me. He
kind of plays like a big wide receiver and I
think that he can work up the middle of the field.
He can work up the scene. I saw that Nick
tweeted about it the other day. That seem balls with

(50:11):
dak or so back. If Michael Trigg is in the equation,
I think he's a guy that you could throw the
ball to up there. He's physical enough to go and
get it.

Speaker 6 (50:18):
Can I say something? I was wrong about him on
day three? I was heavily critical about his lack of
route tree on day three on the Draft show. I
went back and watched and I am very wrong there.

Speaker 2 (50:30):
I've got I love it.

Speaker 6 (50:31):
Yeah, I'm very wrong. I think with Michael Trigg. The
one thing that he has battled concerns with throughout his
time he started at USC, went to Ole Miss. He's
been questioned about his maturity as far as like professional maturity.

Speaker 7 (50:46):
Kaw has did a ton of work on that too, and.

Speaker 6 (50:48):
Caw and Lunda Wells took him out to dinner before
his pro day, went to his pro day, worked him
out individually. So they have a lot of context here
with Michael Trigg talking about people at talking to people
that are around the Baylor program. Though this last year
he took a huge step forward and so you hope
that carries into the NFL. And man, if you get
a serious Michael Trigg entering this system, I really do

(51:09):
think he's.

Speaker 9 (51:10):
Got Harold type of really fun. I mean is it
is a lot of fun.

Speaker 6 (51:14):
He maybe doesn't have fan and speed, but man, he's
got the athleticism, he's got the catch radius.

Speaker 9 (51:18):
I'm very excited to watch him at camp.

Speaker 8 (51:20):
I was texting Nick, Yeah, this is gonna be a
dime at training camp. These these Michael Trigg clips where
he goes up, jumps over somebody and makes a ridiculous
catches is gonna.

Speaker 9 (51:29):
Be a lot of fun from seventy yards away when
he throws.

Speaker 5 (51:32):
He's going to be a fan favorite at training camp.

Speaker 8 (51:34):
Look at those catches, man, Like, he just makes that
look so easy.

Speaker 2 (51:37):
It was.

Speaker 4 (51:38):
It was funny because when we were talking about it
on day three and I had a fourth round grade
on this guy. I thought he belonged on Day three
because of some of the lapses in blocking and some
of the things there. He's a receiving threat tight end though,
and you can use him in a number of different ways.
I thought when we were talking about it, I was
maybe I had pause because I didn't know what the

(51:58):
off the field stuff looked like. I didn't think he
would still go undrafted, though. I was shocked that even
if there were some off the field concerns or question
marks on his maturity, that's one thing I still didn't think.
His tape told me, Okay, he's got a little bit
of a character thing. He should go undrafted. This is
a draftable player, and I think Dallas gets a steal there.

(52:20):
I'd say the same about the Jordan Hudson, the wide
receiver from SMU, calling a couple of games for them
this past year. He was their number one target for
much of the season and in big time moments. I
was cutting up clips from a radio call a couple
days ago and he was making plays over the top
of people. Jordan Hudson, the SMU wide receiver, might be
my favorite of the bunch. Along with Virginia Tech defensive tackle.

(52:43):
Kevin Gilliam I like him as well as a guy
who can maybe make some impact too. So any of
those guys that you've watched and seen broken down there.

Speaker 2 (52:51):
Roch, Yeah, Man Trigg and Hudson. Trig I had a
fourth round grade on him and Hudson I had a five.
And what I like about both of them is that
they're yet guys. You know what now, SMU don't think
they did a great job of like getting Huts in
the football, Like they didn't ask him to run a
whole bunch of routs. I thought if they would have
got him on the move or just like got him
open a little bit, like let him go and be
great after that. But like every time he would catch something,

(53:12):
he's he's having to fight some defender. And he did
a good job fight the defender. But I thought he
had so much more so I had I had a
five on him, could have been a four. But Trig.
I think trig Is is super nice and I think
if Dak's gonna be throwing him the football, I don't
see why he's not on the on the final roster.
One thing that I've been saying on on on different
shows about four years ago, brother Steven and Jerry had

(53:37):
a press conference or something. I don't know what they
was talking about, but it was when I first heard
that John Stevens was going to make the team but
he got hurt. I was like, damn, like, you know
what I'm saying. But I think what I what I
took from that was is that they want this kind
of tight end on the roster, like they want the
jump ball, the catch radius guy, the gold line dude,

(53:57):
the red zone threat. They want that guy on the roster.
And I thought last year Valdal Fairweather was going to
be that guy, ended up in Arizona. Whatever. So if
Trig in which I think he has better college film
than both those guys, I just don't see a world
where we get the camp Trig jumping over everybody, catching everything.
He's Hugh Muggins and and I know you don't like
older players. You're a little older, but maybe that did

(54:17):
some of his growth and development shots out to him.
But if he has a fantastic camp, I could see
a world where he's one of our four tight ends
and Brevet continues to do his thing. Jake's the lead guy,
and hey man, Lippy might be that fourth dude again
to do tight end full back stuff at the shot there.

Speaker 8 (54:32):
And remember too, is that Scoonmaker and span Ford had
of the last year of their deals.

Speaker 6 (54:37):
So speaking of Brevin span Ford, he lost the title
this last weekend as the tallest player on the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 9 (54:43):
How about shy As Pete Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (54:46):
Shy as.

Speaker 9 (54:48):
Kentucky offensive tackles. He used to be like six nine,
three hundred and four pounds.

Speaker 2 (54:52):
You used to be like that. I used to be shy.
I wouldn't have been shot.

Speaker 9 (54:58):
Six foot nine, three hundred and four pound.

Speaker 5 (55:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (55:01):
So if you want to see the big massive guy
in Oxnard, it's gonna be shay As Pete.

Speaker 2 (55:05):
Gotta gotta get him out of his shield man.

Speaker 12 (55:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (55:07):
Well yeah, he's gotta gotta speak to the masses.

Speaker 2 (55:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (55:13):
Updated Cowboys free agent list. This is straight from Nick
Harris at Fort Wars Star Telegram. There Jordan Hudson wide
receiver SMU we just talked about him. Tight end Dj
Rodgers from TCU, tight end Michael Trigg from Baylor, defensive
tackle Kevin Kelvin Gilliam from Virginia Tech. Wide receiver Camden
Brown from Georgia Southern Tulso running back Dominic Richardson, who

(55:36):
again an American Conference player that I covered this past year.
He was the best player on their offense by a
significant margin.

Speaker 5 (55:44):
Yes he did.

Speaker 4 (55:45):
Kansas defensive tackle DJ Withers, Kansas defensive tackle Tommy Dunn
junior Baylor offensive tackles Sidney Folger, and then Kentucky offensive
tackle what is it, shy as Pte uh shay as Pete.
And then Vanderbilt line backer Langston Patterson. Those are the
updated Cowboys free agency. Some of those are mini camp invites.

Speaker 5 (56:04):
Though, right no, those are all udfas. Okay, good to know.

Speaker 6 (56:08):
So mini camp invites that we are aware of right now.
Texas center Cole Hudson. He's a Frisco native too, by
the way, so that'd be cool. And then Zach Switzer,
the grandson of Barry Switzer, running back from Presbyterian College.
He'll be coming in and yeah, maybe we get a
Barry Switzer siding this weekend.

Speaker 5 (56:24):
That would be cool, very cool. Rookie Minicamp begins this week.

Speaker 4 (56:27):
Cowboys will have all those rookies, including the udfas, in
the building and it's the official end to the twenty
twenty six draft process.

Speaker 5 (56:36):
Appreciate you all.

Speaker 4 (56:37):
Again joining us throughout the weekend, throughout our final show
here and then staying up to date with all of us.
Special thanks to everyone who made this happen, starting from
Derek Eagleton all the way down through the list of
great professionals in the building that have allowed us to
be on the air every single time and have the
great footage and insight and stats along the way that
help us put this all together. For vach Party, for

(57:00):
Nick Harris, for Tommy Yarrish, Bobby Belt, Chris Beam in
the back of Kyle Yeoman saying so long from the
final draft show of the twenty twenty six NFL Draft.
Hope you had as much fun as we did. We'll
see you next year with more presented by Milulai.
