Hi, and welcome to episode 295 of The Everyday Life Balance Show. I'm your host, Pascale Gibon. Thank you for tuning in.

In today's episode, we will explore the power of vulnerability and how allowing yourself to be vulnerable can set you free. So often, we find ourselves striving to meet the expectations of others, whether it's our parents, partners, or society at large. In the process, we often lose sight of our true selves.

We may become caught up in pursuing perfection, trying to perform flawlessly in every aspect of our lives. But in doing so, we lose touch with our authentic selves and the joy of embracing our imperfections.

Sometimes we build walls around ourselves, shielding ourselves from vulnerability and hiding our true feelings. We fear being judged, criticized, or rejected by others, and this holds us back from opening up and being our authentic selves.

We may even suppress our emotions to numb vulnerability and protect ourselves from potential embarrassment.

But all these behaviours distance us from our inner yearnings for peace, joy, and happiness.

Bill Gove once said:

"If I want to be free, I've got to be me. Not the me you think I should be, not the me I think my wife thinks I should be, not the me I think my kids think I should be. If I want to be free, I've got to be me so I better know who me is."

Embracing vulnerability is a transformative journey. I was on the same journey. It starts with acknowledging that vulnerability is not a weakness, but a strength. It is the gateway to authenticity, deeper connections, and personal growth.

When you allow yourself to be vulnerable, you honour your true self. You become attuned to your feelings and emotions, freeing yourself from the negative emotions that hold you back.

As you open your heart, you begin to love and accept yourself, fostering a deep sense of self-worth and self-compassion. You realize that vulnerability is essential to form genuine connections and experiencing personal growth.

But what do you equate vulnerability with?

  • Is it weakness, fear of judgment and rejection, shame, or the fear of being imperfect?

In a society that can often feel hostile or judgmental, it's understandable if you feel hesitant to show your true self. But remember, change is needed. You deserve to be free.

So, here's my request to you: Promise me, hand on heart, that if you struggle with showing up authentically in your life, you will take action to give yourself permission to just be and be free.

Taking a stand for your mental and emotional well-being is crucial. If you have experienced past trauma, seeking professional help from a therapist or counsellor can provide
