Vanessa reflects on her fascination with documentaries about NYC's legendary places and her quest to experience them after moving to the city. The episode unfolds the journey of finding a new niche and becoming a regular at DIY parties. People now call that period between 2008 and 2012 the "Indie Sleaze" era. Why? Well, after the Great Recession of 2008, there was a shift among young people away from the embrace of logo-centric and materialistic styles. Instead, there emerged a preference for a socially conscious, non-conforming style embodied by the rise of hipster vintage fashion. A bunch of folks from the nightlife scene were hipsters during the day, but come night, things got a bit messier. It was a whole vibe!   Vanessa sat with Igor and talked about his punk beginnings, what led him to NY, and his documenting of the indie sleaze area in NYC. They also touched on the bittersweet end of his time in NY. Driven out by those relentless rent hikes. The unforgiving cost of living has forced so many people to move out.
